Psalm 102

Psalm 102

Do Not Hide Your Face from Me

A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102:1 Hear my prayer, O Lord;
let my cry come to you!
Do not hide your face from me
in the day of my distress!
Incline your ear to me;
answer me speedily in the day when I call!

For my days pass away like smoke,
and my bones burn like a furnace.
My heart is struck down like grass and has withered;
I forget to eat my bread.
Because of my loud groaning
my bones cling to my flesh.
I am like a desert owl of the wilderness,
like an owl of the waste places;
I lie awake;
I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
All the day my enemies taunt me;
those who deride me use my name for a curse.
For I eat ashes like bread
and mingle tears with my drink,
10 because of your indignation and anger;
for you have taken me up and thrown me down.
11 My days are like an evening shadow;
I wither away like grass.

12 But you, O Lord, are enthroned forever;
you are remembered throughout all generations.
13 You will arise and have pity on Zion;
it is the time to favor her;
the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her stones dear
and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will fear the name of the Lord,
and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the Lord builds up Zion;
he appears in his glory;
17 he regards the prayer of the destitute
and does not despise their prayer.

18 Let this be recorded for a generation to come,
so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he looked down from his holy height;
from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners,
to set free those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when peoples gather together,
and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
he has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” I say, “take me not away
in the midst of my days—
you whose years endure
throughout all generations!”

25 Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you will remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27 but you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 The children of your servants shall dwell secure;
their offspring shall be established before you. (ESV)

  1. Dave Hosford praying for revival before He comes says:

    Ps 102:23-24 In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days.
    So I said: “Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations.

    God, You are the strength – not me. Every time I try do to something it comes to nothing unless You are behind it. Let Your will be my desire today and let that have an impact on others for generations. Please come soon!

  2. Brooke Miller says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    Fearing God in this verse is what stood out to me because that was a struggle for me before! God wants and should receive the glory he deserves! It is just so important to fear the Lord, especially when talking to other people and sharing the gospel! I know that starting the conversation was a fear of mine, and I still have trouble doing it at times, but I need to get over the fear, because there really is nothing to be afraid about! Plus, I have God on my side, and he is the one who can cast both soul and body in hell, and thats a scary picture, and I want to do what God has commanded me to do!

  3. Steffen Eriksen says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    This is going to be such an awesome day! Today, and in the past, many nations are arrogant and confident in themselves. They think that they have the power and that they are in control. Yet when Christ returns to the earth, then they will be made low. All the kings of the earth will turn from their pride and revere the glory of the LORD. Romans 14:11 says, “It is written: ” ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’ ” Yet for right now, it is the minority of the people, the narrow road, for those who fear the LORD and revere His glory. I need to continue to fear Him and praise Him and adore Him as I eagerly wait for the day when everyone else will do so too. I need to be bold in shining the light to others that they would fear God, repenting of their sins and placing their faith in Christ, for when Christ returns and they die, it will all be too late.

  4. Brennan says:

    17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.

    I myself used to have a thought about everyone go through my head, putting them down, thinking they were poor, mean, or anything that I thought was wrong with them. But this verse shows me that God will respond and not reject anyone that comes to Him. Even if they were: mean, poor, young, old. He does not care about our appearance or wealth for God looks to the heart.

  5. Josh Larson says:

    7 I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. we will never be alone. God will provide good friends to build you up and to help keep you acountable. God will be with you all the time and he will hear your prayers. i need to not be worried about me being the only christian cause i am not because God has provited many good friends.

  6. jacksondahl says:

    10 because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.

    The Psalmist knows that God’s wrath is something to be afraid of, that it’s power is incredible. Even though he is being crushed by God’s wrath he doesn’t fail to recognize the power of the LORD.

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    These are such great verses.. because I the LORD is never ending, I can know that is faithfulness will also never end. This means that now that I am on his team, nothing can tear me away from him. I know that he will be with me all of my days, and then one day I will be in his presence rejoicing- and that is the greatest blessing I think anyone could ask for!

    MARANATHA!!!!

  7. Ella says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.
    As a human I will fade and not last, but the Lord my God will lsat for eternity, and He has given me a chance to last for eternity also. in Heaven.

  8. Trembling with fear from the almighty God, B says:

    you know every single time I try to type out “jesus” for my e-mail it ends up being “jewsus” XD so anyways!

    This chapter is pretty intense in the beginning. He goes on about how he is nothing in this life and his enemies have grabbed ahold of him. But then he recognizes who God is and how fearful he is of him. Like it said in this Psalm, we are the future generation that is still reading this today seeking guidance from the Lord and letting others know who Christ is. I think it’s amazing how God has turned Scripture from thousands of years ago into something we still rely on and learn from everyday. God is in control of our lives and the Psalmist understood that. In times of trouble, I know that I sometimes forget this…it’s always when things become “out of my control”…but I need to realize that things are never in my control. XD God has everything under His command and nothing can escape this. Plus, I am in His hands and nothing can snatch me out of it. :)

  9. Chelseaaaa says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    Everything of this world will fade away and become nothing. So why do we worry and spend time thinking of that which is not certain, which is not permanant. Lord help me to focus my mind on you and your kingdom today. Help me to not worry about pointless matters. I love you Lord, help me to prove that today.

  10. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

    I like verse 27,”But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”

    I like this verse because it talks about GOD never changing. HE will never wake up and all of the sudden just start hating good and loving evil. HE always stays the same meaning HE will always love us the same always hate sin the same and HE will never die. This gives courage to me to stand up for the right thing.

  11. Mady says:

    Psalm 102:3 “For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers”

    For a non-Christian this verse could be a very scary thing. They dont know where they are going after this life, (with the exception of some) and their life here on earth is what they are living for. To know that it is vanishing, and withering away is a something that would really concern me if I didnt have Christ. However, because I do have Christ, this verse is very encouraging because I know that my time on earth is almost through! Soon I wont have to be struggling any more, or going through hardships and pain. Christ is coing soon!!!

    Psalm 102:26-27 “They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discared. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”

    When this earth passes, and God creates a new heaven and a new earth, we will be will God forever! and our years will also, never end! I cannot wait any longer for the day Jesus comes and I am in heaven praising him eternally!! MARANATHA! COME LORD!

  12. john Karlsson says:

    Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD
    OUr God is an amazing and wonderful, he chose us before the beginning of time. If your on God’s team that is an awesome truth! Not only did God choose us, he provided instructions (The Bible) that tell us how to live and how to praise him. It’s all there in his Holy Scriptures passed down through the generations from God to Us. God’s word will never pass away and so I can say with confidence that this generation and future generations will continue to praise the Lord who rules over the nations. Reminds me of a song. Our God is an awesome God He Reigns from heaven above, with wisdom power and love, Our God is an awesome God.

  13. Max says:

    19 “The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth,
    20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.”

    The afflicted man who wrote this psalm said he wishes that one day people would say this. Well, it looks like he got what he wanted. God did look down from heaven to see earth, He did hear the groans of the prisoners of sin, and He sent Jesus to die so He could release all those condemed to eternal death! This verse has certainly come true!

  14. AL∑C™ 2010 says:

    16 For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.

    MARANTATHA!!!!!!!!!!!! COME LORD QUICKLY AND DELIVER US FROM THIS WORLD OF SIN AND DESTRUCTION!! this is so exciting, i pray that when this day comes, that i will be able to witness it first hand!! that would be the most epic EVER!!!

  15. Matthew Crane says:

    This Psalm was so interesting, especially the beginning of it. It made me think of Bobby’s sermon this weekend, almost like that was the picture of someone who lost it and didn’t live for God.

    4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food.

    In the same way just like in Bobby’s sermon, these people who lost it forgot to do what was most important. They forgot to read the bible and remember God. Now I am unsure of whether the word food in this verse is refering to God’s word but I do know if you forget to eat spiritual food things will start to happen as far as sin. Let us not be like the person in Bobby’s sermon, instead let’s not stop standing.

  16. Beth Lauder says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    Verses 11 and 12 stood out to me because they highlight the difference between us and God. We are a mere vapor, existing on earth for a brief moment in history, while God is eternal…He has always existed and always will. The psalmist, in his time of great affliction states his complaint before the Lord, but then he writes about his certain trust that God will deliver him and answer him. It is not a sin to cry out to God when we are afflicted, the psalms do an excellent job of showing us that. What is a sin is blaming God for our trials, becoming angry with Him, or doubting that He will deliver us. Lord, in the midst of some trials in my own life, I pray that I would have the psalmist’s attitude toward You. I pray that I would state my complaint, turn to You for help, and trust in the knowledge that you are an omnipotent, eternal and immutable God who has promised to carry our burdens and know that You will.

  17. 11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    I echo what Beth said above! God is eternal and forever and we are but a breath; my hope is founded in Him, In His immutability and His eternality in that He will always be! I pray that I will always live with this thought and in this way with an eternal perspective driving me.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SMALL GROUPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Yaaaaaaaaaaa! I’m so so so so so excited for the Laguna Hills Small Groups tonight. Ya ya!

    Goodmorning . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 102 . . .

    There’s only one word to describe the whole chapter . . . MARANATHA. It’s a cry out to Jesus to come rescue us from this sinful earth. To come back and take us all to our actual Homes. How amazing will that day be. How in “awe” will we be. I mean just think about it now. When we read just the verses now, of how everything will look, we’re in “AWE.” But that’s only reading it. Imagine when we actualy experience the Day that our Heavenly Father will come to earth. How relieved we’ll all feel. Like we’re actually home now, no more worrying, no more sinning, and no more evanglizing. That means, we better get out all the “Word” we can spread right now even if it kills us. It’s better for that to happen, rather than for you to say, uh, it’s to late.

  19. Melissa Cox says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

    God is so amazing. He formed this whole earth. He formed every person in it and he even formed the galaxies, stars, etc. Sometimes it’s just great to reflect on all of the things that God has done. He is awesome and holy.

  20. lucas garcia says:

    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you.

    2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.

    i really like these verses

  21. Dan Lauder says:

    Wow, it is great to know that God wants us to tell Him honestly what is on our minds whether good or bad. The Biblical model is to be real with God and not act like everything is good when it is not. This kind of Psalm encourages me to be authentic with my prayers.

  22. Ben Blakey says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    I love how these verses go together and build the contrast between humans and God. I am like a shadow.

    God is enthroned FOREVER.

    But I think my favorite thing about the Psalm is how these two realities are further connected by the the fact that God hears our cries. When I realize my own weakness and cry out to the everlasting God, he hears me! That’s sick.

  23. PaYtOn :D says:

    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you.

    God hears all prayers. He is loving and just and deserves all my praise! Thank you LORD!!! :]

    ***Maranatha!!!***

  24. Meisha Preston says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    These verses reminded me of what Bobby said on Sunday, “You can go green but it is all going to go red!” God created the world perfect and good, but through sin man has destroyed it. God cursed the earth in Genesis 3. However, even after the heavens and the earth are gone, God will still remain. God is going to create a new heaven and a new earth! One girl we were talking to during evangelism night wanted to know why we thought heaven was going to be so good. If we enjoy good things on this earth, even though it is full of sin, how much more will we be able to enjoy things in heaven where there is no sin! The earth is still beautiful even though it has been corrupted…how much more will the new earth be beautiful with no sin to corrupt it! I cannot wait for that day! Come, O LORD!!!

  25. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    Yes! Amen to that! The way the Psalmist puts it is so clear and intense! It is so true that Earth will be just like a garment that wears out. OOO and the even more intense part is when the psalmist says how like a garment, this world that we live in and the people in it will eventually wear out! It is so true! and this Pslam reminded me of yesterday’s Psalm on how not to compromise! This Psalm just made it even better sounding! So from now on, when I choose to be different from the world, I will remember why in that God is eternal, this life and world isn’t.

  26. Elise says:

    18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD :

    I love this part of the Psalm where the Psalmist starts specifically addressing people he knows will read all of this in the future- US! The rest of the Psalm is telling us about how God saved and restored him because the Lord is everlasting and all powerful! He is eternal, and His kingdom will be eternal as well! I can’t wait to see the day, as this Psalm predicts and describes, when “The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory”! Its going to be an amazing day when Jesus comes back (for the Christ-followers anyway)! Maranatha!

  27. T moore says:

    20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.”

    I just want to say praise God!!!! He saved us from our destructive and sinful ways, where we were heading for judgement and pain, and God made us new, He paid for our debt through Jesus Christ on the cross where, through the death and resurrection, we are made new and can have eternal life with our Lord Jesus Christ through repentance and faith. Praise God for just such an awesome gesture of love He has given us.

  28. Sarah G.! says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    YESSSS THIS EARTH WILL PASS AWAY!! Isn’t that something to rejoice about?! Of course, I do sometimes get caught up with the things of this world, but in reality, the only thing that matters here is a relationship with Christ!! These verses reminded me of what Bobby mentioned in his sermon this past weekend about keeping our mind focused on the eternal!! With “so much” going on here, sometimes it can be difficult, but we have that assurance that Christ will come back!! MARANATHA!! :D

  29. Mike says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    It’s been thousands of years since this psalm was written, and yet its message is still true: God does not change. He never fails or breaks promises; He remains faithful even when generation after generation of His people are faithless and stray into sin. And He has promised that He is preparing a place for us, which he will return to take us to when this world is destroyed by fire. Like Meisha said, everything that we enjoy in this life is still tainted with sin; how much greater will the joys of the next life be when we are perfect and perfectly able to enjoy them? I need to trust Christ’s promises that heaven truly is better – not just as a belief, but a mindset that leads to action, causing me to value my eternal rewards above anything else in this life.

  30. Riley hancock says:

    This verse says that we lie awake at night thinking about God. Well I think how great it is going to be in heaven and we need to pray for a revival before God returns for us.

  31. Christy Beymer says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    This is a good reminder that we are to fear God. He is so much more powerful then us and I don’t know how we couldn’t. But he is merciful and holy and shows us so much grace. He is a God we fear, a God we trust, a God we love, and a God we will worship forever and ever.

  32. Tristan Jorden says:

    18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    These verses made me think about God’s eternal longevity-he’s been here from the beginning and will be here to the end. He is the only thing that is constant and unchanging in our lives. So how is it that for all the years man has been on the earth we’ve not been able to unitedly accept that God’s our Father? At the same time, it’s amazing to think that we have knowledge of God because it has been passed down through the generations, despite religious wars and historical events. Makes you think about how God’s word will continue on after we are gone…

  33. Spencer Camp says:

    A prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament before the LORD.

    Wow, this guy is depressed and knows there is no hope for himself or this earth. He is so sad that he even forgets to eat! I don’t know about you, but that’s crazy! Everyone can know that when I start to forget to eat, I have hit rock bottom. Nevertheless, even in the midst of his lonely and pitiful suffering he grants that: “God sits enthroned forever; [His] renown endures through all generations.”

    Since this is a prayer…as Dan stated in his comment, I want to be real with God and “pour out my heart to him in trust as it says in Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah”

  34. Michelle [Slave for CHRIST] 2010 says:

    4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food.

    i could be getting a different interpretation from this verse than other people but ill share it anyways. This verse is definatley a warning to me if i dont consume Gods word daily…His word should be like food…something i know i can not live without or i will die. I need to be treating Gods word like i should be- hungering to read it all the time so that i can grow from it and learn from it. I know that i dont want to fall away from a straight path leading to the Lord and i know that i dont want to stumble in my faith and have a withered heart. God was gracious enough to give us His commands. And His commands are not burdensome. I need to be sure that i am keeping my heart strong so that when temptation arises, i will be strong enough to fight it and recognize it.

    Lord, give me more of a desire to read your word. I need to appreciate it more and more!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!

  35. Katie Melrose says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    I love these verse because they really show how powerful and timless God is! Its so ahrd to think that we will bne living with Hime for eternity. When I think of it my brain hurts! Im so excited tho, its going to be soooo awesome, eveything we wish for and more! I feel pity for the people who do not know Him tho, how sad it is that they will ba casted aside and dirty clothing. Yet it makes me so grateful to be one of His! Thank you Lord! Maranatha!

  36. Nachooooooooooo says:

    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    This is such an awesome vere! God’s “renown,” or honor, is the the same as it was in Bible times, and will be the same for all future generations. So no matter how hard people try to remove God from our lives and act as though he doesn’t exist, He will always be there and will continue to make himself known. Praise God!

  37. Ryan Cox says:

    Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD

    How great is God’s foresight! Obviously, his omniscience allows him to see all the future, but it is so amazing to see words that refer to people as distant in the future (then) as us! We/I take the Bible and it’s contents so for granted. Aside from teaching us about how God is going to redeem us from our Garden-of-Eden-inherited-sin, the Bible simply documents God’s great & awesome power. Just as the Israelites were commanded to remember how God continually saves and blesses them, we need to “document” how God acts & “interferes” in our lives so that we can tell others, just as the Bible tells us.

  38. Jasmine Douglas says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    Awesome verses! Like everyone else said above, our time here on earth is limited. We gotta look at the big picture, which is eternity spent with God, praising Him forever! This makes me want to spend my time here on earth wisely, focusing on eternal things such as furthering God’s Kingdom, as opposed to what I am going to wear tomorrow. It makes our every day problems seem so insignificant and selfish. Are we ready to die to ourselves and make this life all about Jesus? I am!!

  39. Brett *2010* says:

    15.) The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    Mmm, won’t this be the day!! I definitely cannot wait for the return of the Lord…Maranatha!!!

  40. Morgan Sherman says:

    3 For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers.
    4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass;

    Although this verse doesnt seem exciting at first glance, to me, it makes me thing about Heaven! The sermon this weekend told us to constantly be thinking about Heaven and to listen to music that reminds us of it. These two verses and most of this chapter even makes me sooo excited for the new earth and our new bodies. To live eternally with the Creator of the Universe-Wow. Matthew 6:19 says “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” Nothing on this earth that we own will matter in Heaven, and boy am I excited for the new body! An eternal body made in Christ’s image-perfection! These make me sooo excited to leave this piece of poo earth and spend eternity with God!

  41. Hannah says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

    Great verse!! “…the heavens are the work of your hands.” Ahhh I really love that! If I think this world is beautiful….oh my goodness haha cannot imagine what heaven will be like! MARANATHA!! An awesome reminder of how powerful God is…and I’m so thankful to be on of his children and to be with hi, one day![:

  42. Jasmine Wonton :) says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    This is another verse that states clearly that God created everything. He created the earth and the heavens for His glory and for us to enjoy and praise His work. However some people take environmentalism so seriously and get caught up trying to preserve this world which is going to fade away. They should focus on the creator and not creation. Why are people getting attached to this imperfect world when there is heaven waiting for them?! God’s creation is very beautiful but I cannot wait to get to heaven where I’m going to fall facedown and the imagery that Bobby said that Shane said has really stuck with me. Listening to worship music that reminds me of heaven makes such a big difference and reminds me to keep focused on eternal things. Everything is going to perish and wear out except God. He is in control of everything.

  43. Boyd Jorden says:

    What I like most about this psalm is how the afflicted man moves from saying :

    9 For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears
    10 because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.

    to saying:

    17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.

    He doesn’t say “Please, God, answer my prayer.” He says God “will” answer the prayer–showing he has so much faith in God that he regards God’s own faithfulness as a certainty, an absolute. What a great reminder of how I can count on God to hear my prayers even in the worst possible circumstances! And what a great portrait of God’s eternal nature. Why would I put my hope and trust in anything of the world when it will all “wear out like a garment”? God was, is, and is to come. Unlike anything else, I will always be able to rely on Him. That’s so reassuring and amazing!

  44. Bryce Nilsson:) On God's Team!! says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    God is awesome! How true though about our lives being so short. We wither away like grass. I want to spend the rest of my life proclaiming the name of our Lrd Jesus Christ!!! The God who sits enthroned forever! God is was and has always been!! Praise our wonderous creator and God!!!!!!!!!!!
    MARANATHA!!!

  45. Gabriel Voris 2010 says:

    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    This verse is so awesome. It to me just makes the Lord seem so powerful and so important. This verse also makes me think about eternity. Our time here on this earth is slowly passing away. Our time in Heaven is going to be forever. We need to be thinking about the future and where our place in eternity is going to be because once there you are there forever.

  46. Marissa Ramirez says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    I have to agree with Brooke on this one. This verse does remind me of fearing God. He should recieve all of the glory and praise. For he is the greatest of all kings and gods. I do fear God. He will decide if i go to heaven or hell. WHen my judgement day come I want to be able to say that my name is on the list. This is what pastor Bobby talked about this weekend. It also reminds me what my dad said who is your greatest enemy? Which puzzled me. I wish we all feared God and praise him in the highest. For he deserves it.

  47. Wesley Wong says:

    Jasmine. That was a intense comment. I totally agree with you.

    (:

  48. Keegan says:

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    This is a really awsome verse. it tells us how God lives on forever and how he will always be in exsitence. It says that He will never change which is awesome because HE will always be a GREAT, MIGHTY, AWESOME, LOVING, CARING, and FORGIVING God.

  49. Shelby says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    Fear of the Lord is so important, and that is what stood out to me in this verse! Having a healthy fear of the Lord is key, especially in this day and age. It is so easy to fear man more than God and give into temptation but as Christians we need to stay strong because there will be a day where everyone will bow down.

  50. Zach senger 2010 says:

    Just one of the main themes and ideas that i see in these verses that is so amazing is that our Lord will live and last forever and not wither away like we will someday but he will always be forevermore!!!!

    21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem 22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.

    THESE VERSES ARE AMAZING!!!!!! WOW they just make me think of the day when all i will do is praise and worship my Lord and Savior!! It makes me think of thousands and thousands of people on there knees and hands lifted praising God all together!!!!!!

  51. Murphy Danahy says:

    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    GOD is forever. That is the central theme of his being, his nature. Without that he would have no power over death. Not only did he create it, or the lack of him did so, but he also conquered it also.

  52. Kelsey says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    I like these verse because they remind me of God’s constant reliability. They remind me that God is always the same, he never changes. We can always rely on Him. He will never let me down. It reminds me that I NEED to rely on Him. I have a hard time letting go and God giving all of the control of my life, and relying solely in Him, I do not like to not have control and not know what is comeing. But that is what I need to do, and these verses help reassure me that God will never change and I can always rely on him, he will always remain faithful

  53. Rebekah Foreman says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    This verse is a clear reminder on what we need to do and what I need to do. I need to Fear the Lord at all times and remeber the power He has. Thinking about what this verse think about everyone fearing the Lord. That’s the perfect day!

  54. Jacob Antoun 2010 says:

    21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem
    22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.

    I liked Zach’s comment on these verses. There was a day back in the old testament where all the israelites would gather to worship God. But there will be another day (that will never end), when all the Christians gather in the New Jerusalem to worship God as the king. And all the people of the earth will sing out and worship God and its going to be awesome! I cant wait! Its these kind of verses that make me think: Maranatha!

  55. Jeff Modugno 2010 says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    It is so that God will never perish. I get to be on a team that will not wear out and never end. Praise God I am on his team and not the worlds team.MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!

  56. Jenae nae :) says:

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    Everything else in this world is worth nothing. Its all gunna go away and perish. I shouldnt value anything here besides my bible and God! The bible will teach me what i need to know and grow me closer to my heavenly father, who IS eternal and who will NEVER perish!<3

  57. Allie Moorefield(: says:

    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you.
    When we need help, the only person we can come too is the Lord! God will listen to our prayer! He is always here for us!!!!

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
    Sinners will perish and die but we will remain! Sinners will wear out like a garment but like clothing we will change the sinners and they will be gone! Us, as christians will have never-ending years! We will remain the same and like bobby said nothing can throw us off that path between salvation and heaven! Praise the Lord!

  58. Allie Moorefield(: says:

    CORRECTION!***We will wear out like garments and God will always remain the same!! God is never ending and has mannyyy more years to come! Us as sinners will perish but we will join the Lord in Heaven! And the one we will see in heaven will never fade! (:
    That is assuring!

  59. kelly causky says:

    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you.

    When we are upset about things, or anxious if something will work out, or unsure about the future, we need to surrender our lives to God. He is sovereign and in complete control, so we have no reason to be worried about ANYTHING. We need to be trusting and put our lives completely in God’s hands.

  60. Shane McCuistion 2010 says:

    4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food.
    5 Because of my loud groaning I am reduced to skin and bones.

    Wow! These verses just make me want to see somebody who hasn’t eaten in days or slept, crying out to God for forgiveness. Last time I checked most people don’t forget to eat! Like Bobby said in one of his sermons, thats how our Bible Reading should be! We shouldn’t forget to read our Bible. We should be reading our Bibles more than we eat our food! Anyways, seeing somebody crying out to God on their knees and praying to him would be awesome!!! We Christians should take these 2 verses as an example and get our Bible Reading in every day. My challenge is that we don’t eat until we read our Bible and pray!!!! Im gonna try this challenge myself!

  61. Josh Larson says:

    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you. i need to work on praying more to god and spending at least 10 minutes talking to him.

  62. Ian H. says:

    11 “My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.”

    The contrast between God and man is incredibly stark. Besides being different in so many other ways, the Lord is eternal/infinite, He is forever, while we are limited and finite. It’s amazing that, even though He made us, God, who is so big and powerful, would even consider such tiny, almost insignificant beings such as ourselves. It should be even more astonishing that, not only does He consider us, but He loves us. Sadly, I am so often distracted and led astray by the things of this world, sometimes I am not so amazed by God’s love; in fact, I don’t even think about it as much as I should. This needs to stop! Lord, help me to be in constant thought about and communication with You through the Bible and prayer.

  63. Stacy Perkins says:

    18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD

    And here we are, this future generation he writes of, praising the Lord. Dude, so cool…

    God is the Great I AM. The Alpha and the Omega. And He’s OUR FATHER! Nothing–literally NOTHING–else matters.

  64. Karsten Klein says:

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    Dude i can’t even imagine FOREVER ok it seems unimaginable. God will last forever and we will be able to live in his presence forever in heaven FOREVER!!!!!!!

  65. Matt Crichton ((2010)) says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    I love the transition the author made here. He is deep in sorrow and pain yet he still has faith and turned to God for help. He has endured persecution and suffering at the hands of his enemies. Just like we will if we continue to live out for Christ on our campuses. We need to be focusing on God and furthuring His kingdom instead of dwelling on ourselves. Look forward to the day of His return. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!

  66. P.J. says:

    “My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food.”

    When we forget to consume our “spiritual milk”, as 1 Peter puts it, we in turn begin to sin more and forget about our promised reservation in heaven and lose joy. I can’t forget to do this, my heart is deceitful and it takes God’s Word to draw me away from my flesh. God remind me to get into your Word and take joy in it!

    Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. Pastor Bobby says:

    So encouraging to watch these comments come in all day long!

    A prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament before the LORD.

    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you.

    When I hear the phrase “afflicted man” I don’t think of a person that turns to God in prayer. Today people act like it is someone else’s fault or they get in a recovery group and turn to other people. How refreshing to read about someone who cries out to God in response to their problems!

    This makes me think the next time I am troubled I will pray. I will remind myself of the unchanging character of God.

    In fact, this weekend we are talking about trials at True North! Let’s learn to trust in the Lord even more in the hard times!

  68. 12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

    The psalmist is definitely having a hard time but I was encouraged when I got to this verse how he says amidst all that, “But you, O Lord…” He can see a contrast in how bad circumstances are to how awesome God remains and he finds hope in that, I’m praying that I can keep that perspective no matter how big or small troubles in my life are–I must hope in the Lord, being certain that he is in control, confident that he will do what he says!

  69. Jordan Anderson says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    This is one of the things i love most about the Lord, and one of the most encouraging things. It gives me security and stability, clarity, and reassurance. I am so thankful for my salvation, and the great privilege i have of getting to know the Lord Almighty.

  70. nathan ortiz says:

    11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
    These days on earth are minuscule compared to eternity in heaven. I need to be focusing on heaven rather than earthly things.
    MARANATHA

  71. Sara L. says:

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    I long for the day when every knee will bow down and worship the LORD and know Him for who He is. God promises us that one day everyone will….some in heaven and some in hell. I pray that many will be now and in heaven rather than the other option! I also pray that I will never become “comfortable” with God and will always be among those who fear Him!

  72. Matt Lawler says:

    26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    28 The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you.”

    It is impossible to imagine forever. God has and will be forever, and when we get to heaven we will live forever with God. It hurts my head so much to think about it, but all i know is that it is a very great thing to spend eternity with God!

  73. Eric Walker says:

    2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.

    Sometimes when I am facing a tough time, and I call on God for help, I don’t always get my prayers answered immediately. God answers prayers according to his will. If you pray something that is of his will, he will give it to you. Although we may not get what we asked from God all the time, it does not mean that he did not hear you. God hears our cries but also knows the greater good. He may not be answering all your prayers because knows whats best for you. This verse really sums up how I feel sometimes in times of hardship but I need to remember that God hears my cry and will help me for the greater good, according to his will.

  74. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 102

    It is awesome so see someone in great affliction and suffering not play the blame game. It is so easy for people to blame God for their affliction and not run to Him in prayer. Satan is so good at deceiving us and diverting our anger and distress onto those we love. This deception keeps us from the help that we can only find in trusting God to heal us instead of putting our trust in ourselves or in man.

    1st Corinthians 2:5 so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.

    Psalm 55:1-5 Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; 2 hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught 3 at the voice of the enemy, at the stares of the wicked; for they bring down suffering upon me and revile me in their anger. 4 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death assail me. 5 Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me.

    PRAY FOR REVIVAL!!!!!!!

  75. christopheriksen says:

    27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

    It’s so awesome how God never changes. If God was faithful to deliver the Israelites in slavery and if He was faithful to deliver this psalmist even though he was suffering all sorts of trials, then that means that God will be faithful to deliver me as well even though I may temporarily face some trials. Lord, please help me to always trust in your faithfulness even during difficulty because I know that your plan is perfect and you will always uphold it because you never change.

  76. josh senger says:

    3 For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers.
    this is a good reminder of how quickly life will vanish from us like embers. every second we get closer to our meeting with God and this verse is an encouragement to work harder at serving God while i am still here on earth
