Psalm 101

I Will Walk with Integrity

A Psalm of David.

101:1 I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
to you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will ponder the way that is blameless.
Oh when will you come to me?
I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.
A perverse heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil.

Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly
I will destroy.
Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart
I will not endure.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in the way that is blameless
shall minister to me.

No one who practices deceit
shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
shall continue before my eyes.

Morning by morning I will destroy
all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all the evildoers
from the city of the Lord. (ESV)

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing.

This is a profound resolution for a king like David, who had anything at his beck & call; & it’s an even bigger resolve for a generation like ours, that has the technological equivalent of David. We allow so much into our heads through our eyes & ears often times without check. TV & music alone can be major detractors from a Godly mindset, which is why we have to constantly brainwash ourselves a la Philippians 4. Bobby’s exhortation this weekend to make ourselves think more of heaven through worship music is a great place to start.

  2. Brooke Miller says:

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

God has blessed me with so much, and I am so undeserving of it all! The Lord is so awesome in every way and I want to have an obedient heart with whatever he calls me to do. I know that I need to be praising God even more than I am now and really think upon all the things that he has blessed me with!

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

This verse stood out to me because it is an encouragement to be a good example for others! I want to be right and blameless before the Lord, and I want to live a life pleasing to Christ! After reading this verse, I am going to evaluate my growth and make sure that I am doing everything for God and because I want to serve and honor him!

  3. Brennan says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

I am very convicted because I am tempted to hang out with people described in this verse for this is what is popular in the world. I struggle with this and when I read this verse i have been to close to evil and I need to have nothing to do with it, like not saying something when someone that knows me is using curse words or talking about a girl in a perverse way or slandering my God’s holy name. I’m done.

  4. Dave Hosford praying for revival before He comes says:

Great response Brennan! I’ll keep praying for you and the rest of the TNers to live for Christ today!

Ps 101:7-8 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.

King David is zealous for the LORD and he is trustworthy in his life. Is he perfect? NO, but His heart seeks after the LORD. God is chalenging all TNers (and everyone else) to live for Him and to be holy as He is. That is both passive and active faith – from the heart – just like Jesus! Lord, please come soon and, until then, keep growing us in Christlikeness.

  5. Trembling with fear from the almighty God, B says:

wooh hooooooo Brennan! haha I hope to see you with the girls group this mornin at schoolio instead of with the others of this world! XD oh and by the way, like the music that you have on the ipod. very nice. and way to go Mr. Cox!!!! First comment on here. :D

so back to scripture! Like Brennan said, it’s very tempting to go and hang out with my non Christian friends who seem nice, but in the end can bring you down. “Bad company corrupts good character”. I’m EXTREMELY happy that I have my Christian friends always by my side at school. :D literally! haha Stephanie sits right next to me in my math class and so is Duarte. and I have Alyssa Cohlman in my Government classssss. :) Although I do have these friends, I need to go out there and spread the Gospel to my non Christian friends so that there’s more disciples by my side and I can keep them accountable also! Bring more people to small groups so that there’s two Aliso/Dana small groups!!!!! That would be amazing! SO lesson for today for me: Don’t hang out with the non Christian as though best friend, buuuuuut evangelize to them so that they may be saved and we can grow together through accountability and small groups/church. :D yay!

  6. lucas garcia says:

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

    this is a great verse

  7. Chelseaaaa says:

8 Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.

Lord help me to do this this morning. Help me to spread your word on my campus. Help me to be a light for you and your truth. May my every thought action and emotion be pleasing and bring glory to you.

  8. 4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This is pretty intense! As I was reading this Psalm I thought about Revival’s theme that Pastor Mike brought of “NO COMPROMISE”! I so often fail here, I so often compromise in the little things when God has commanded that I walk blamelessly as the Psalmist says and to literally run from evil. My prayer today is that I will have NOTHING to do with evil, whether that be word or deed or thought or action, that I will stand strong for what is True and right and that God will enable me to glorify Him in all that I do!

  9. Beth Lauder says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This psalm had a powerful contrast between David’s desire to reign righteously as king and not be a part of anything that is faithless and wicked. What a fitting psalm to read after all the focus we have had in True North since Revival ’09 about being on God’s team. David is clearly on God’s team! He wants his own life to be characterized by God’s attributes – love, justice and holiness. David clearly states that he wants no part of the evil and faithless men around him (those on Satan’s team). He is committed to living for the Lord and he does this practically by avoiding close fellowship with wicked people. This is exactly how we must live if we are on God’s team. We should know non-Christians and be actively evangelizing them, but we should never have non-Christians as our closest friends. I challenge you to look at your life today and evaluate who you choose to spend your free time with. Are you like David who actively seeks to surround himself with godly people, or are you closely linked to non-believers? If your closest friends are non-Christians remember the truth of 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Bad company corrupts good character.” When I became a Christian I had zero Christian friends .The first year I was saved was painful because I had to distance myself from my friends who were caught up in the sins that I now had to fight. I prayed to God to bring me godly friends and over time He was so faithful to answer that prayer. If you have non-Christians as your closest friends I urge you to let them go and boldly ask God to bring you new, Christian friends so that you would be encouraged by them to live a holy life and not be led into temptation and sin.

    HUGE comment Beth. NIIIIIICE. =)

    Goodmorning . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 101 . . .

The main story of chapter 101, is saying, if your wicked and do all those bad deeds, then you will not prosper to Heaven. If you name isn’t found in The Lamb’s Book of Life, than you will be cast down into Hell to live there for eternity. Just like Pastor Bobby’s message from yesturday, are you positive that your name will be found in the Book of Life? Are you just hoping? But not really doing anything about it?

“6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.”

If my life is what’s described above, than I will be guaranteed a place in Heaven. Just like getting my reservation at a resturaunt. Because I am a Christian and have repented and put my faith in Christ, than I will be given my table for 1. ( so to speak ) I need to continue to get persecuted for my faith, live it out, and share the good news of God. =)

“8 Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.”

As for this verse, it clearly states than any and every wicked man that God sees, will be “put to silence.” That’s pretty scary to think about, if your a wicked evil preverted man. Obviously, if it’s saying that they will be “cut off from the city of the Lord” that they won’t have their name in the book of life. Instead, they will spend eternity in Hell suffering and being tortured in the burning pit of fire with . . . SATAN. =( It’s our job to evangilize and tell them that there is another way to spend eternity rather than Hell.

    ————————————————GREAT PSALM——————————————

  11. PaYtOn :D says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

I love this Psalm! In 1 Peter 2:11-12(learned at Revival :]) it says:
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”

I want to live a life holy and pleasing to God, so that others may see God’s truth and know that He is the one and only way to heaven. I want to evangelize more and be an alien that is always standing. I want to live a life pleasing God and not the world. Thank you Lord for all you have given me! I pray that the Lord will give me a bold heart that won’t fall when tempted but will be set apart! :]

***I am striving to live a life for Christ!!!***

  12. Mike says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me?

This verse should renew a Maranatha mindset within us. We do not know the day or the hour of Christ’s return to earth, or the time of our death if that should come first. But we do know that we do not want to be in sin at that moment. We should be living every day as if it were our last, and as if Christ could return at any moment – because He could; But if we allow ourselves to forget that and slack off, we will be caught off guard and will not be ready. I need to strive to live every moment and make every decision with the goal of bringing glory to God, trying to serve Him in everything and eagerly anticipating His return above anything else in my life.

  13. Ella says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.
God wants me to live a blameless life, and in doing so He wants me to stick with good company, just like what verse 1 Corinthians 15:32-34 says, if I were to hang out with the wrong crowd I will surely not live a blameless life I need to do what is right.

  14. Alison says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

Mmm I feel like this! Except I make so many mistakes that my life is far from blameless! But I am praying daily that God makes me into a person that is pleasing to Him. I also wanna echo Ella, most of this chapter is about not hanging out with the wrong crowd! I know firsthand that hanging out with the wrong people all the time in hopes that they’ll become Christians DOES NOT work. Bad company DOES corrupt good character, so lets run with people who are fellow servants of God and build eachother up!

  15. Boyd Jorden says:

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.
2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

I love the first two verses of this psalm because they speak to where my focus should be throughout the day–singing my praise to the Lord (which reminds me of Bobby’s suggestion this weekend about listening to music that inspires thoughts of heaven). But the verses also speak to the effort I need to put into living a life that will be pleasing to God. The word “careful” suggests that I need to think critically about my actions and words–that I need to take care to say and do things that bring Glory to God, not the world or myself. The end of verse two is equally meaningful and convicting. David uses the word “house” to talk about his royal administration, but as Christians today we can think about our own official roles as students, employees, team captains, (even the role of sibling) and make sure that we’re pursuing holiness in those roles. We can ask ourselves if we’re fulfilling those roles with a blameless heart. This psalm is a reminder that I need to take a strong stand for God if I ever expect to be useful in God’s work of saving others.

  16. Jasmine Douglas says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This is such a strong statement! “I will have NOTHING to do with evil.” I want this to be my prayer today, that the Lord will keep me out of temptation, and that I make wise decisions on who my friends are. Like Ella said, we need to be in good company. Surrounding ourselves with unbelievers will only lead us astray. So lets say NO the next time Satan tempts us, and let’s be victorious in Christ in all we do.

  17. Steffen Eriksen says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

In this psalm, we see David making a resolve to have nothing to do with evil. He wants to be as far away from the wicked as he can get, that the men of perverse heart will be far from him. This is the no compromise mindset on friends. It is so easy to fall into a pattern of enjoying doing what the world does and hanging out with non-Christians just doing nothing. But instead of wasting away with relationships to the world, we should instead be seeking to get closer to our Christian friends. Friendship with non-Christians will waste your time and their influence will drag you down. It is so key to have 3 great Christian friends around you, having a Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. I need to live with this kind of no compromise outlook on my friendships. It is so not worth my time wasting away when I can be developing and growing friendships that will help me to grow spiritually. Although the things of this world and the people that are of it may be tempting, I know that nothing of this world is worth its claim, for I want to invest in that which is eternal, not in that which is temporary. I want nothing to do with evil as I seek after frienshipd that ill hold me accountable and help me grow as I do the same to my friends.

  18. Meisha Preston says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

The Psalmist says he will be “careful” to lead a blameless life. Leading a blameless life does not just happen by chance. It is not something that you will just one day start doing. It takes effort and planning. It takes saying no to temptation and relying on God to give you the strength you need. I want to live a blameless life. This reminds me of one of Pastor Mike’s sermons from Revival when he talked about our glass of water before God and every time we sin we put more dirt in our glass of water. I want to offer God a glass of pure water, not a glass full of dirt.

  19. Dan Lauder says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

David had the mindset that he was going to say “no” to sin. He understood that he would have the opportunity each day to be exposed to a variety of sinful things. Somethings he obviously had a choice on whether he would look at it or not. Our choice is the same. If we are going to have any chance of defeating sin we have to be proactive about it and make a similar commitment. We have to anticipate potential sinful situations and commit to saying no to them before they happen.

  20. Alicia Karlsson says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.
Well I was going to write on V4 but Stephen said it all. Well said.

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

God is holy and the standard is holiness. David acknowledges that God requires a holy and blameless walk. The word careful stuck out to me as I was reading this Psalm the dictionary definition is to be “cautious in ones actions”. We need to be thinking about how we are going to live a blameless life. If we consider how we may live a blameless life before God as we think through our day being cautious of what we are doing. It is going to be easier to live and walk a holy life. Dont just let life happen think about how you will respond in a Godly way in what ever may come up through your day. Be careful to live a blameless life before God today.

  21. jacksondahl says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This verse is really important in my life. I often find myself having to be around people like this, especially at school I need to either evangelize to them or stop being around them, they are just a cause for temptation. As 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, bad company corrupts good character. I need to make sure I am around people that help my faith grow, rather that tempt me, at least most of the time. And when I am around people like this, I need to make sure I act in such a way that they will be interested in what’s different about me- this will make evangelizing to them so much easier! And even if they pay no attention, I can still evangelize to them!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Matthew Crane says:

This Psalm confused me for a second. About half way through the psalm it was as if God was talking through David, and I almost thought it was God talking. So I went and read it again just to double check and it was NOT God talking and David’s words amazed me.

6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.

I like all the verse because it seems David is following a principle that we see in 1 Cor 10 that bad company corrupts good character. David is sold out on this principle and there must be a good reason, because he wants to be far from sin I am assuming and I beliece this Psalm is really applicable to all Christians lives.

So I think this also goes in with the prase, “DON”T STOP STANDING!”

  23. Dillon Teglovic says:

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

This is a huge problem! I see it everyone not only at my school with all the “sinners” but i’ve seen too many christians do it and just sat back and listened which makes me just as bad. And then he goes on to say he will not endure anyone that is prideful; lot of good encouraging stuff in the psalms!

  24. Eric Walker says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This verse is much like 1 Corinthians 15:33, bad company corrupts good character. As Christians, it is important to not hang out with men of perverse hearts. We should be careful of who are friends are and not let our non christian friends drag us down. As Christians, we will loose many friends but gain new ones, but in the end, it will be soooo worth it.
    Maranatha!!!!!!

  25. Luke Melrose!!!!!! 2010 says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

As Christians, we are supposed to be blamless. This means that no one is able to accuse or spread believeable rumors about you. Being blameless can be really hard to be sometimes. Ill say that I am far from it, but it doesnt stop me from wanting to be blameless. You can’t just skip through life and be blameless. Being “careful”, on your guard, fleeing evil desires, staying in God’s word etc. is the way to keep purity in a person’s life.

  26. Shelby says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

I love this verse! Such a great verse to memorize and always remember because as Christians in this world we need to be living for God and be an example of him. I want to be different and stand out in this world.

  27. Riley Hancock says:

We have wicked hearts and we do not diserve God but he died for us so that we may have a chance to live with Him. We should go around and help lead people to God sort of like the song “Lead Me to the Cross” because he does lead us to him. I pray that we have a revival in our church and to don’t stop standing.

  28. My question is why don’t we celebrate Yom Kippur? I know were not Jewish, but Christianity begginning is the same as Judaism….

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.
4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This Psalm has to be one of my favorites! David is basically saying in this Psalm that he is going to live a blameless life and that everything that is evil that he doesn’t want to deal with! The application is that I need to be like David and strive to live a blameless life!

  29. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 4,”Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.”

I like this verse because it talks about bad company being put far from you. If we hang out with sinners we will sin if we hang out with good company we will be doing good a simple concept really. I should think of this more often

    CYA

  30. T moore says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

David writes some pretty incredible things and this psalm is definitely one of them. David’s view on sin is just awesome. I need to be more like David in this by not letting any sin in my life slip or go through without repentance because God is holy so I should be holy (Leveticus 19:2 or 1 Peter 1:16)

This also reminds of the lyrics from lead me to the cross when it says “break my heart for what breaks you” David is definitely at this mind set where any sin he sees, it just breaks his heart.

  31. Jasmine Wonton :) says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

I need to hate all evil and sin. I can’t compromise myself just a little and be close friends with unbelievers. I want to put them far away from me. Too many times I see Christians surround themselves with unbelievers and even date them. I need to distance myself from them. That doesn’t mean that I shun myself from non-Christians but see them as hurting people who need Jesus to fill up that emptiness and seek for more opportunities to evangelize. I can still be their friend but I don’t want to be really close friends with someone who doesn’t share the most important thing in my life with me or drag me down spiritually. Many people say oh I’ll change that person to become a Christian but I see the opposite occur. I need to put those people far away from me and not compromise or put myself in bad situations where there is gossip or inappropriate language but set myself apart and know that I will have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with evil. Not even a little bit. I like what Meisha said about Pastor Mike’s example. I want to be good friends with someone who will help keep me accountable and deepen my spiritual growth. I’m so glad that I have such great Christian friends here! That was one of my goals for revival and I prayed for it a lot. I’m so happy that God has blessed me with amazing godly friends. :)

  32. Spencer Camp says:

This was an awesome Psalm; I really enjoyed reading it!

David, being the godly man that he is, declares that he is not going to let this world pollute him. David defiantly refuses even to be in the same room as a deceitful person. He vows not to set his eyes on evil and altogether desires to alienate himself from all sin and to live a blameless life.

This is awesome! I agree with David…I want to live a blameless life. I want to be careful of the words that leave my mouth, and be considerate of others. I don’t want to be corrupted by bad company so I’m going to stick with my godly friends. I am really excited for Jesus to come (Maranatha!) so I want to be ready.

Just thinking about what a godly person living such a good life that others take notice would look like makes me want to be like that. A person who glorifies God in all circumstances by being gentle and loving to Everyone! That would be awesome!

  33. Jenae nae :) says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing.

This makes me think of the movies i am watching or the music videos i watch. Are they really “clean” things. I want to live a Godly life and so i need to make sure the things im putting on my life ARE Godly!

  34. Sarah G.! says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

MMMMMM this is good!! Leading a blameless life…it can be difficult right? Even when one looks blameless on the outside, there are still hidden things to fix on the inside. Everyday I pray that I would set an example for others at school by living my life for Christ. May we be set apart from this world Lord, and may they see your love and who you are through us!! :D

  35. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

This Psalm reminded me of Revival 09 in that it was all about no compromise, and not blending in with the world! I think this can be hard especially for high schoolers because we see everyone else doing the same thing or similar things, and might want to give in. But, as a Christian, I should be different from the world. I already am different from the non Christian High schoolers, but I need to continue to be different and be like a light in this dark world, and further stand out as a Christian everyday with everything I say and do!

  36. Dylan G. says:

I know that this is only a small part of this psalm but the first verse really spoke to me.

Today I was having one of those usual dreadful mondays, which got worse when i was late to work and sent home. But instead of destroying the ipod that was supposed to wake me up the thought of psalms and praise came into my head. I then proceeded to worship God. Now this day has become one of the best because I am going to keep my commitment to God and spend time with him everyday.

The psalm then continues on how it is important to cast all evil things away. It seems this would be the next step in my life as a Christian. May I strive to live the life David describes here.

    Can’t wait for small groups!

  37. Kelsey says:

7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.

I like this verse becuase it displays the way I should be leading my life. I should not be too close to non-christians. My closest friends should be Christians who are helping me and keeping me accountable, as 2 Corintians 6:14 says, what fellowship does light have with darkness? there should not be any. I should be different than everyone else. I should be living above reproach, this is my prayer request each day. And this verse helps me remember that having Christian supporters will help

  38. Sara L. says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

This whole Psalm is talking about the way that I should be living my life, but this verse in particular stood out to me. The way I lead my life should reflect my state of being Christian. When the psalmist says “when will you come to me?” it reminds me that I don’t know when Christ will return. It could be anytime…and I certainly need to be prepared and ready 100% of the time.

  39. Marissa Ramirez says:

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

Well this verse i like cause it talks about ur neighbor. Of course we are talking about everyone, because everyone is your neighbor. So i like when i see something that someone has i wish i had it. Which is not good since it says it right in the ten commandments. I did this today since my aunt got a 50in flat screen tv for only 500 bucks. Which I like but hey i dont need that big of a tv in my room. So tis is something i am going to work on. Praise the lord

  40. Ian H. says:

3 “I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.
4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.”

It’s pretty clear that David is serious about following the Lord. Most of this Psalm is basically a resolution to stay away from “bad company.” David recognizes that the good character of God’s people will be corrupted if they’re constantly around wicked men (1 Cor. 15:33), and this truth is no less relevant for us today. Unless I’m actively fighting against evil and standing up for what is right in bad company, that bad company will corrupt good character. God’s people should not be compromising with the people of the world (Satan’s people) by going along with or even tolerating their wickedness. David didn’t, and neither should I. As we see here, he didn’t want anything to do with evil and stayed away from it. God, help me to have the same attitude.

  41. Zach V. says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

I was witnessing to a Muslim once and he asked me if a christian committed adultery, would he still be save? I told him yes. And that’s the truth, but there’s still more to it. A true christian doesn’t sin because he knows God already forgave him, that is a sign of a non-christian. true christian strive to be holy. We make mistakes, but still strive to be holy.

  42. Shane McCuistion 2010 says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.
4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

It’s so great to see Christians living their lives for the Lord, but we have to come to the realization that we still sin. It seems like here in this psalm that somebody is really trying to get right with God ( or white with God). Bobby gives us plenty of messages about perverse joking, but then we still go out and about and do it. We should be having nothing to do with that!!!! We should be setting an example for others at our high schools and anywhere else!!! Lets go out and have a spiritual fervor for the Lord!!

  43. Wesley Wong says:

In this psalms, David clearly wants to live a blameless life.
Look at what he writes in the second verse: I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.
Now the key phrase is, ” when will you come to me?”
The NLT translates it as, “when will you come to help me? ”
David here is asking for help! He knows that he can’t stand against the devil’s temptations and trials on his own. He need’s God’s help to avoid those temptations to live a blameless life.
In our lives, we are going to face a lot of temptations that we are going need help going through. We are blessed that there is a God that is going to always be there for us to help us through hard times. Everyday, we should pray for God to fill us with his Holy Spirit so that we may be helped in times of need.
Which brings us to point 1: Ask for God’s help

God will help us always, but we must be willing to take some steps to further improve the status of our blameless life. Look at what David wrote from verses 3-5 & 7-8. It is talking about how he will not dwell or even look at things of evil. David has amazing words of wisdom for all striving to live a blameless life such as setting no vile thing before your eyes, no one practicing deceit will be in his house and more! The one that stood most out to me was in verse 4: I will have nothing to do with evil.
Wow, it is very simple, yet hard to live out. It doesn’t say, I won’t participate in evil or I won’t say evil things. David says, “I will have nothing to do with evil.” This means that staying in a inappropriate conversation is just as evil as leading the inappropriate conversation. Everywhere we go, whether school or home or even when no one is looking, we have to have nothing to do with evil.
Which brings us to point 2: Have nothing to do with evil.

Not only to we want to have nothing to do with evil, but we want to surround ourselves with people striving to walk blameless lives as we are. David talks about this is verses 6-7. He says that he will hang out with the faithful people in the land, and that he will be ministered to by others whose walks are blameless! This is how we should be like. We should build up our Christian brothers and sisters and not hang out with people of evil. Does this mean that we should ignore them? Not at all. instead, witness to them in action and in truth.
This brings us to point 3: hang out with your Christian brothers and sisters.

    To recap:
    -Ask for God’s help
-Have nothing to do with evil
-Hang out with your Christian brothers and sisters

    (:

  44. Angela says:

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

Just shows how people want to sing to the Lord then and will, and should always want to sing to thier Lord. to sing of how great He is and how mighty he is.

  45. Tristan Jorden says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

What a great psalm…and a psalm that has validity through all the ages. Just like David, we have been and will always be tempted into sin. I need to put my focus and energy on pleasing God by doing daily Bible reading, listening to Christian music, having conversations about God, etc. If my mind is saturated with God, I won’t be distracted by “vile thing(s)”.

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

This is how I want to enter Heaven–with a pure and loving heart.

  46. Jake Young says:

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

This verse is very important because worship is just practice compared to what we will be doing in heaven. if i wake up in the morning and worship God, I always feel like my day is better. Christians have a desire to sing praise to God.

    posting is great
    BE THERE WEDNESDAY

  47. Dominic S says:

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.
2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

David says that he will not only sing praises to God about His love, but also his -justice-, which is very important. I need to realize that God punishing the wicked may not seem very pleasant to me here on Earth, but it makes Him just, and I will praise Him for being perfect and just. David also says that he will lead a “blameless life” because he doesn’t know when God will come. Just like Pastor Bobby said at True North Takeover, we need to be always living like the rapture is today, because it could happen at any moment. I need to watch my life carefully and make sure to make it as blameless as possible, because i want to perfect holiness out of reverence for my holy God.

  48. Never Take David Personal says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

wow….what a good resolution. So…one thing I have noticed in my life….when I start focusing on things other than God (not necerily even sinful things but anything) it becomes difficult to spend time with God. When we desire other things than God, we don’t desire Him…haha simple but true. Instead of setting my eyes on things of this world I will resolve like David to set my eyes on God.

  49. hunter 2010 says:

Brennan, your reslove is awsome! Praise God that you want to obey Him!

Shane, nice reference to Revival 08, CCC from the White Side!!!

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

This deffenitely describes me at times, I have been such a gossip. It is so sad that as Christians we gossip and slander eachother…we are on the same team, we fight the good fight, we serve the same God yet we always find somethig bad to say about each other. Life is hard enough on it’s own, the last thing we need is hate and slander from our brothers and sisters in Jesus. The next time I feel like juding someone or gossiping about them I am going to keep it to myself and just pray for them instead. Love and compassion will get us way closer to God than pride and selfishness will :)

  50. Mady says:

I couldnt really pick one verse. This Psalm is too awesome. (: David is really wanting to be holy and blameless in God’s eyes! This is something I should be striving for everyday at school, home, cheer, church, and other things.

Some things that really stood out to me:

vs. 2 “I will be careful to lead a blameless life… with a blameless heart,” Once again, David is striving holiness in all he does in his life.

vs. 3 “I will set my eyes before no vile thing… they will not cling to me,” I shouldnt even tempt myself with “vile things”. I should try to stay as far away from that as possible in order for those things to not cling to me. If I want to keep my mind and my heart pure I need to stay away from things that might lead me toward sinning.

vs. 4 “I will have nothing to do with evil,”

vs. 5 “Whoever slanders… him will I put to silence… him will I not endure,” Not only do I need to stay away from evil, but also I need to stand up for what is right when I have the chance.

vs. 6 “… he whose walk is blameless will minister to me,” I NEED to make sure I have at least 3 godly friends that are always keeping me accountable and also I need to be keeping them accountable! It is really encouraging to try to live a holy life before God when you have others who want to do the same surrounding you.

Living “above reproach” is so important! 1 Peter 2:11-12!! “Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and stragers in the world to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your sould. Live such good lives among the pagans that, thought they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” When I read this Psalm my mind immediately thought of this verse! We should be blameless in the sight of others so that they cant accuse Christians of being “hypocrites”. MOst importatly, we should be blameless in GOD’S EYES because he is the one who we will stand before on judgement day :)

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!

  51. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

This is so cool. The verse reminded me how I must be living my life blameless. I need to be the most pure, loving, ambassador for Christ. It is going to be hard but I have God on my side and I can conquer sin.

  52. It's Daniel Yo! says:

7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.

We need to act like David does, but instead of subjects and rulers we need to do this with who we chose as our friends. If someone is using foul language or taking the Lord’s name in vain (aka a LOT of people), you ned to cut them off and tell them why they should talk like that.

  53. Haley Litz says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.
3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.
4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

What awesome verses that totally remind me of the theme from Revival ’09!!! NO COMPROMISE!!!! I want to follow David’s example in this Psalm…. I must be careful to live blamelessly and to not sin, but fight temptation and kill sin in my life! God gives the strength to do so and gives me a way out so there is no excuse! I love how the end of verse 4 says “I will have nothing to do with evil”. That is the mindset that I must have!

  54. Katie Melrose says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

Man, I wish this could be me! How awesome whould this be if I could stand infront on the Lord on judgement day and be totally blameless and have NO sin!!!! This verse just really encourages me to watch what i say and do because i know that for everything i do or have done i am going to be accounted for it! Thank you Lord for the day! Maranatha!

  55. Rebekah Foreman says:

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

This verse really stuck out to me tonight because at practice someone slandered a girl on our team that wasn’t there and it really upsetted me. For it is evil to talk about someone behind there back. I pray Lord that I will not gossip or fall into temptation. I pray that I will stand up and say no it situations and walk away and not be a part of it.

  56. Evan McKee says:

8 Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.

The LORD really hates sin. although it is important to focus on how much God loves us, it is also important to not let the fact that God loves us make us forget how much he is opposed to sin and therefore sin against him. it seems like something many high schoolers are struggling with. I’m so glad CBC keeps bringing this up to keep us from straying away.

  57. 6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.

It is so important to have godly influences that we can look up to in life. One of the most awesome things about small groups is that we get to have insight from our leaders. They have more knowledge of the Bible than us, and they are older and wiser, so they know more about life in general. I am thankful for being influenced by godly leaders and friends daily in my walk with Christ. Also to be a minister to others is a blessing because you have to set yourself at a higher standard and live above reproach.

  58. Melissa Cox says:

6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.

I like this verse because it encourages us to make friends that are godly people, and people who, like us, are striving to follow Christ. We need to seek out people that fit this description and choose those as our closest friends.

  59. I liked how this verse focused mostly on how the writer was FLEEING the ways of the wicked. Bobby often talks about this associated with sexual immorality. The idea of most Christian teens today is that to see how close to the line of sexual immorality they can get without fully crossing the line. But the Bible tells us to flee that line and be as holy as possible. This verse talks about the life of the writer and his desire to be holy and not cross that line of hanging out with the wicked men.

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

I want this to be my ambition in life-to live a life worthy of the Lord and be holy and blameless in his sight.

  60. Laura G says:

    Psalm 101
    Of David. A psalm.
Today was a great psalms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Verse 2 stood out to me the most today!!!!!!!!!2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart. This should be my lifestyle. As a christian we should all be striving to live like this!!! I should live a life glorifying to God, that is blameless and pure!!!!! I should also be praying that God will come back soon.

    MARANATHA <3 <3

  61. Pastor Bobby says:

Wow! David gets straight to the point in this psalm with lots of practical things to say! Great comments you guys!

I thought Dominic made a great point that we need to sing about God’s love AND justice!

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

You can see that it is because of David’s sense of God’s justice that he is so committed to staying away from evil. The more I think about how God is just and judges sin, the more I want to do what is right!

If you missed the sermon from this weekend or want to hear it again go here: http://www.compasschurch.org/hs/sermons/dont-stop-standing-2/audio

  62. kelly causky says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

We have no idea when the rapture will happen or when we will meet Jesus. It is God’s agenda, we just have to be prepared for it. Blameless is a great word. Above reproach. We should shine and stand out at our campuses and among our friends so that they will know that we live for God, not for this world.

  63. Karsten Klein says:

What is up psalm of David!!!
wow this verse is really strong!

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

I think it’s smart to stay away from people that will tempt you. It is better to be around people that will encourage you to do what is right. If you hang out with people that won’t tempt you and will help you then you can stay away from evil easier.

  64. Austin Payne 2010 says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

My eyes should be ever focused towards pleasing God. My eyes should not even be looking at things that upset Him. However, that’s not always the reality. My eyes wander and I sin. But this year, Christ is calling me to step it up now more than ever. And I will answer that call! My eyes are focused on Him

  65. Allie Moorefield(: says:

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

This is such a powerful verse! Men with perverse hearts will be far from me and i will have nothing to do with evil. When i think of GOd and how perfect and sin-free He is, it makes me wonder how i could sin everyday against Him. It just doesnt make sense. God is so powerful, holy, and pure and we are full of sin! Just like God, who has nothing to do with evil it is revelant that we also stay away from evil. We should not ahng out around those kind of people and we should get rid of everything evil or makes us do or think evil. Such as music or a movie or anything. If we try getting rid of the evil, it will make it easier to actually resist the evil!

1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.
Great verse! I worship the Lord, but i definitely need to worship much more than i am now! The Lord is deserving of all our love and praise!

  66. Stacy Perkins says:

Dude, man, wow. Guys, I’ll be real honest here. The further I got into the Psalm, the more and more convicted I got! We are held to the highest standards. Each verse just made me flinch even more than the one before! It’s not that I don’t KNOW this all already, but here it all is, packed in a very powerful PUNCH! No skirting the issue here, that’s for sure. Christian fellowship is CRITICAL, in my experience–both in seasons of thriving, and in the moments of sin–to living the solid life we are called to, as laid out by David. Thank You, Lord, for the Church! Thank You for Your Holy Spirit.

  67. Josh Larson says:

7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. no one who lies will dwell with God. that is a scary thing. it is important to work on to be truthfull. i need to work on always telling the truth even when it will get me in trouble.

  68. john Karlsson says:

I will set before my eyes no vile thing.

Guys we need be like Job and make a covenant with our eyes not to look lustfully at girls. This is a big temptation we men tend to have Guys you need to train your mind to view girls through Jesus Christ eyes. Christian girls are your sisters in Christ and deserve your respect. You wouldn’t want a guy to look lustfully at your sister would you? Non-christian girls are people who need the love of Christ to be shared with them. That is kind of hard to do if your mind is filled with lustful thoughts. Keep your mind pure and on things above so you can be useful in the kingdom of God!

  69. Hannah says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

Ahhhhh AMEN! This is my prayer! Facing the fact that we are never going to live that blameless life yet I MUST continue to strive for a life that is holy and blameless in the sight of God! I want to continue to work towards a life (mine!) with NO COMPROMISE!

  70. sam says:

7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.
God is only guna take christians to heaven and we should all go out and try to bring people to the word of God.
also i believe that we should also practices this idea, pick good friends and surround yourself with good people

  71. Lauren Goudge says:

    elloo!
3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.—THIS CHAPTER IS AMAZING! This verse really stands out to me because I am surrounded by wickedness everyday at school and I am so sick of it! I am not going to let it cling to me and just follow me around! I have to either stay away from these people or evangelize to them! I need to keep my mind focus on my walk with the Lord and just His will being done! That is my mindset right now! The evil of people at my school has really gotten to me and I’m going to let it bring me down! Stay Standing!!
    MARANATHA!!

still thinking about how amazing the sermon was this weekend! :D

  72. Matt Crichton ((2010)) says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

We as Christians need to be setting an example for the non believers. Its like that verse we memorized at revival. “…live such good lives among the pagans, that through they may accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your good deeds and praise our father on the day he visits us” or something like that. On our campuses we need to make sure that we are not hiding our light under a bushel, but letting it shine for all to see. Do not be ashamed of the Gosple!!!!!!!!!!

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

Another verse that reminded me of revival. No compromise. Thats what this verse is talking about. We need to be filtering our music intake, the movies we watch, the things we say… or even allow other people to say around us. We are not of this world so we need to seperate ourselves from it. Im not saying stay away from non Christians. How could we fufill the job Christ gave us to evangelize if we are avoiding are who are wicked in Gods eyes? Do not let the world get ahold of you and continue to look forward to Christs return. MARANATHA!!!!

  73. Laura Johnson says:

    Yes! 72 comments!

I liked verse 2 because that’s what I want to do, be careful to live a blameless life. It’s easy to go around not being careful of what we say or how we act but we are separate from this world where we have higher standards, Gods standards. I want to remember to that although I don’t have the strength to do it myself, Christ is powerful and to focus on Him to conquer sin as He conquered all sin.

  74. JWade says:

I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.
I need to continually be making sure i am setting my eyes on things above and not on things of this earth that fade away. I need to make sure that no sinfull thing will cling to me. I need to pursue holiness with every aspect of my life

  75. Katie Slusher says:

6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.

I loved how this verse talked about fleeing sinful influence (v4), and also running with faithful influences. I need to make sure I am not only staying away from people and desires that promote selfish, worldy interests, but also make sure I’m surrounding myself with blameless people to walk with me. I need to make sure I have surrounded myself with my Shadrach, Mishach, and Abenigo, who encourage me daily to walk in the light.

  76. christopheriksen says:

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

This just made me think about how when non-christians i know do stuff like cuss or curse God around me i don’t think much of it because I basically expect them to act that way. But really I should be offended because that is offending to God. When people are doing stuff like that in the future, I need to tell them to stop and walk away if they don’t, because stuff like that offends God and just like David I want to be blameless before Him and have nothing to do with sin.

  77. josh senger says:

6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.
i like this verse but i espesially like the first and last parts. he talks about keeping his eyes on the faithful. this makes me think about how i need to be looking for the wise and Godly people in the church to look up to for guidance and wisdom. i want to learn from them so that i may be able to grow more spiritually and make the right decisions in life

  78. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 101

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

This verse reminded me of REVIVAL 09 and living a life of No Compromise. There are so many stumbling blocks that Satan uses to compromise High School students. At camp we talked about the influences of Movies, TV Shows, Internet and Music. David’s prayer in this Psalm is for help from God to walk a blameless path. We are foolish to think that we can do it on our own without Him. If we trust in our own strength than we are deceived and don’t understand how truly needy we are for God’s strength. So many people think that they are not affected by the things they see or hear but their lives paint a different picture. As a musician I can personally attest to the physical and emotional side effects from listening to worldly/secular music. We can’t live a life for Christ if we are compromised by this world by conforming to it. We will all be held accountable for what we allow to enter our eyes and ears. Are we fully committed to living a lifestyle with Godly integrity?

Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

  79. Brad says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil.

These are some great verses to think about as I get ready to get some sleep.

  80. AL∑C™ 2010 says:

3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me.

This is something I need prayer for. I need to not affiliate myself with people who dont believe in Christ and who are not legit for him. too often I find myself choosing them over other, more important things. its not right. ouch, im convicted.

  81. Michelle [Slave for CHRIST] 2010 says:

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

Of course we cant be completely blameless, but we can strive to be as blameless as possible! I have to have this question in my mind at all times: “Would i be chosen (like Mary) to do something awesome for God by God?” I have to make sure that i am living above reproach…i need to live more of a blameless life. There is absolutely no excuse to sin if i completely fear God. If i dont completely fear God, and i sin, then thats rediculous of me! God is all poweful and i think that sometimes i downsize His power and think that it doesnt matter if i sin just that one time…that is the absolute wrong attitude to have! As a child of God, i should strive each day to live a blameless life for HIM!

    Maranathaaa

  82. Josh Larson says:

3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, i need to work on forgiving others and helping them just as christ forgave me. i need to work on not thinking about my self all the time but how to help others instead.
