The Coming of the Holy Spirit
2:1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says concerning him,
“‘I saw the Lord always before me,
for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
my flesh also will dwell in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
or let your Holy One see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right hand,
35 until I make your enemies your footstool.’
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (ESV)

36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Peter could have backed down from this confrontation with the people, but instead, he boldly spoke up and was not afraid to tell people the truth. As a result, people were convicted and about 3,000 people repented and put their faith in Christ that day! In the same way, God can use us to accomplish His purpose, but we need to be willing to speak up for Him. If you fear man’s judgement more than God, nothing will happen because you will not risk embarrassing yourself in front of someone. But when we learn to trust God to be with us and give us the words to say, and go out boldly on our campuses or wherever we are to speak His truth, we will find that God can do amazing things and bring many people to Himself through the work of people who are on fire for Him.
Wow! There is so much to comment on in this chapter, where do I start?
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
This is so cool! I love how much of a family they are and how they are so loving. We are somewhat like this at True North, we are fellowshiping a lot and people are getting plugged into the Church, but do we have sincere hearts? Do we come to church to see friends or to hear from almighty God? Do we truely have a desire to purge sin from our lives and make disciples? We need to have sincere hearts so that God’s work can be completed in us; if we give all to Christ what is left for Satan to use? Nothing! Jesus is our motivation, He gives us the reason to sing and serve Him with all our hearts, nothing else satisfies.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’
Like Hunter said it was hard for me to not write about every verse in this chapter but this was the one that stood out to me the most. God knows that the life here on earth is filled with so many trials and temptations but he has and will always be there to help us through them. He will help us distinguish whether one path is the best choice for us and he has prepared the best life for us in the future and all that we need to do is submit to his will and plans for us and follow his lead. (Jeremiah 29:11) And once we are done with our mission here on earth we will one day be in his presence filled with joy and awe because we are in the presence of the maker of the universe! Maranatha!
40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
This is how today is too. God pleads with us to rise against the ways of the world. This passage holds many treasures. Just like we were talking about the church growing in numbers, verse 41 says that 3000 people heard the message and were baptized.
24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
Peter is preaching the gospel right here! He is telling these people exactly the same things as we should be telling our friends today. The funny thing is that Peter was the first evangelist! We all should look his example, because obviosly, ti worked:47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. People were being saved left and right and rejoicing to God. How great would it be if we could evangelize as fast as Peter. Our school would take only a week at most to convert everyone there! This should definetly encourage us to evangelize.
23This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
I wanted to comment on this specific verse because I just watched the Passion of the Christ last night and this verse reminded me of it. The whole movie just goes through the time when Jesus was betrayed by Judas and the Romans arrested Him and they brought Him to be judged and the Pharisees wanted Him crucified. It is pretty tough to watch what Jesus had to go through just to die for our sins. Jesus could have done anything to free Himself, but that wasn’t God’s purpose for Jesus’ life on this earth. He came down on this earth to die for our sins, and he had the wicked men a.k.a pharisees crucify him on the cross. I remember that once scene where Pilate said I have the power to kill you or have you set free, but Jesus still had enough power after he had been scourged a bunch of times to say you have no power over me, except what was given to you from above. That shows that everyone on this earth has no power, except what God has given them. Pilate didn’t even want to have Jesus killed, it was just the Pharisees who kept on saying, “Crucify Him!” Then Pilate just told the Romans to do what they say. So they made Jesus carry His cross after he had almost been scourged to death and had a crown of roses put on His head, and carry it up on a hill called Golgotha. That is a horrible way to die on this earth and Jesus did that for only one reason. As the sacrifice for our sins.
I am right there with you Hunter, there is so much to comment on and I liked the same verses.
46.) Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47.) praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
This verse goes to show that if we are constantly in the word and fellowshipping and praying for open doors, God will present opportunities for us to evangelize and people will repent and be saved.
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
This reminds me of Revival 08′, we met everyday for an entire week, and people became Christians! That was only for a week though, imagine if we met every single day what would happen & did everything together how strong our church would be. I think more and more people would be saved and if we doubled it up and we brought people, they would get saved too.
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
These verses really stood out to me. I love how the disciples are a perfect example of showing that truly knowing God and having fullness and joy in Him goes beyond earthly things like food and celebration. The disciples could have had an enourmas feast to celebrate the thousands of people that came to Christ! But instead, they were so content and happy with the simplicity of the meals and the hospitality of those who opened their homes to them. As Christians, this is so important to remember. We don’t need the things of this world to be happy or content. If we truly know God, and the work His Son has done for us on the Cross, than we should also be joyful and content just as these disciples. The Lord kept blessing them by adding “to their number daily” and that goes far beyond anything this earth has to offer.
21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
Wow! There is so much information in this chapter. But this one stood out to me the most. This verse gives me so much incentive to go out and evangelize…just so more people can be saved too.
41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
The main idea that stands out to me in this verse is the actions of the new believers. Verse 41 talks about the 3000 new believers added to the followers of Christ and verse 42 talks about their immediate actions. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
Immediately these new Christians were desiring to know more about their Savior. You can see the devotion in their actions. Do we have the same devotion, are we studying the apostles teaching (READING THE BIBLE), fellowshipping (with a purpose, not merely socializing) and are we devoted to praying? In response to their actions, the Lord continued to bless them and added to their numbers. If we truly want to “double it up”, our lives need be characterized by these same desires.
13Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE???? all these people from different areas heard the wonders of God in their own tongues, and they STILL do not believe and make up some lame-o excuse for their acclaims!! This just truly amazes me!! We need to pray for open hearts and minds as we proclaim God’s message!! We need to also pray that the holy spirit would do a work in us as well. :D
39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
This verse is a promise of the forgiveness of sin and the Holy Spirit to you and me! We are the ones who “are far off.” Peter was not ashamed of the gospel and boldly proclaimed it on the day of Pentecost. Not only did he have an eternal impact on the three thousand people who repented of their sins and put their faith in Christ that day, but he had an exponential effect as each of the new converts “doubled it up.” We should be encouraged by this passage and not be so near sighted about evangelism…God will save those who we evangelize to, but also to “those who are far off” as new converts witness to others.
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Another great verse that goes along with evangelism! The Lord gives us opportunities and open doors to talk to people and if we take them, then he adds to our number daily those who were beiong saved. We need to fear the Lord, and to be super bold when it comes to evangelizing. We have God on our side, and with the words to say, so we should not be worried! I would love to be in the position where I evangelize to people, and then seeing them become saved! That would be so amazing.
MMHHMM! What a sermon by Peter!! With that one sermon over 3,000 people were saved!! Thats crazzzyy!
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
This verse stood out to me because it reminded me a lot of our everyday lives. America is becoming more and more corrupt everyday as more and more people reject God and His truth. When we evangelize, we need to be pleading with people to save themselves from these corrupt times and even more from the wrath to come! We are in the midst of a spiritual war, lets fight back the only way we can: winning souls for Christ!
OHHHHH everytime I read about the Pentecost now it reminds me of the missions trip and the play that we did for them. That was soooo awesome! I hope that all of those kids remember that story and take it to heart as I have! And then, I’m reminded of how awesome it is to have the holy spirit! How cool would that be to understand what they were saying in a language you did not know! God is so awesome!
38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Then of course the gospel is laid down before them and 3,000 were added that day!!!! God really uses the apostles and still uses us today. Don’t forget that God is on our side and we should fear Him, not other people. He’s saved us from our sins, let us rejoice and tell others! :D
The beginning of this passage reminds me of the missions trip to San Juan Capistrano this summer. The skit that was done on the last day depicted the tongues of fire and the speaking in many languages. Reading about it reminded me that I need to keep that missions trip at the front of my mind. I should continue to have a heart for evangelism. The fear of God should compel me to share with the unbelievers that I know. I hope that all of you who went on the trip were also reminded of the great things that the Lord did in our lives. Let’s get out there and share the good news!!!
21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
this verse is very encouraging to me, and makes me want to go out and evangalize every single day so that people can be getting saved!
What a encouraging and nice chapter to read….especially the end of it!
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Peter sent a really convicting message to these people. Their response was good because they wanted to know what they needed to do.
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This is a awesome verse!!! These people got the exact and perfect answer to their question! And because of what they heard they added to their group by 3,000!!!!! We need to spread this message to help our church grow!!! LETS DO IT!!!! DOULBLE IT UP BABY!!!
22″Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.23This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
When i read this i thought that this is exactly how we should be preaching Gods word! Look at the difference it made after he was done talking! 3000 Men were added that day and they all felt convicted after the message. We should all never doubt and always go out confident with the word and we just might make a difference.
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
I wish we could me together and have church every day like this. They had daily fellowship with each other, praising God as He did amazing things among them, and saw people getting saved daily. But the main point to all of this is having sincere hearts for God. Maybe we can’t have church every day, but we can make sure we have sincere hearts that are completely set on God despite whats going on around us. And when our hearts are there, we will see God’s work displayed powerfully among us. And we can still follow their example by meeting with Christians whenever we can, even if its not with everyone at once, to encourage each other to have this kind of dependence on Christ.
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
Peter (I think), realized in this verse that this world was and is filled with corrupt evil. So he warns “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation”. It’s so important that we are on guard against the things of this world that can pull us away from God. We need to avoid these kind of situations and have friends that will help us stay on the right road :)
… ANHS Campus Lunch was great! Good job Matt!!
36″Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
Talk about boldness and courage to say what needed to be said. He is accusing the people of killing Jesus, without fear of what they will do. Peter spoke with an authority just like Jesus did once Peter received the Spirit.I think that we need to be courageous warning our friends of the fate of those who don’t repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ.
“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
—How cool would it be if our gift of the Holy-Spirit came with the instant ability to speak another language!!
24″But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.”
—Through our faith in Christ Jesus we also will not know death. Jesus showed us in a very tangible way what it means to be resurrected. And not only did He appear after His death-He appeared to hundreds of people over the course of 40 days!!
21 “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
—Our Lord is wonderful, loving, gracious, patient and long-suffering.
26″Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope,
27because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”
—Not only does Jesus give us this precious gift of eternal life WITH Him, He also shows us a path for life, and fills us with the joy of His presence.
1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
7Utterly amazed, they asked: “Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?
8Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language?
The holy spirit descended on the first disciples in tounges of flame, and gave them the ability to speak in tounges. Although it dosen’t always happen so dramatically, we all have that same gift. Also, just imagine how amazing it would have been to the onlookers. they saw normal men that they had grown up with, now speaking in every langauge. Again, we may not be able to speak in tounges, but we all have the holy spirit and with him we can do amazing things.
45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
one of the things that strikes me every time i read through acts is the boldness and sacrificial love displayed by the early church. sure i guess you could say it was cuz they were still in their “spiritual high” from Christ’s ascension, but it has encouraged me knowing the extent and willingness of all the members of the church. it also encourages me when i see people in our church doing the same thing for each other. if we want Christ to be pleased with our service to His church we need to emulate the behavior of the early church and rely on God to add people to our church
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
This is how the Church needs to be today adding to the number of Christians everyday.
DOUBLE IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome
11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” ……………………………………….
I think it is amazing howw all these pple from diferent places speaking different languages were able to understand each other through God and only God.Its just another example of how He works in mysterious and amazing ways, and how He is the only way to goo.
44All the believers were together and had everything in common.
45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need
These couple of verses really show us that the believers back in the day were really true Christians and gave up everything they had to follow him. EVERYTHING!!! When we become Christians now adays in the United States, yah we sacrifice some friendships and maybe a few material items but we would never sell everything we owened to someone and just live completely for Jesus Christ 24/7 non stop every second out of every day. This verse gives us Christians an extremly good example on how Christians are supposed to live their lives for Jesus!!
ahhh i remember this skit on the missions trip. that trip was so awesome… the last skit was on the assension, and how Peter calls together the first church. this church grew rapidly, it multiplyed and lets pray that True North can grow like this first church does. the Lord has blessed us with this ministry, so lets go and proclaim the word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ! the only way we will go is if we tell others. verse 21 is encouraging becasue it says that those who call on His name will be saved, and that is so awesome. Maranatha!!!
Psh! We only God thirty comments today? Peter preached one sermon and 3000 people became a Christian!!!!!! We are weak sauce! We need to be working to getting every highschooler in orange county on this website, I wanna see this website crash because so much people comment everyday that it cannot hold the information itself!!!
(to be honest I think I just sounded like Pastor Pete, passionate man he is)
This chapter has inspired me, I want God to do an amazing work at our school! I wanna get that small gym and I will make it a priority to set it up! Thanks Jessica haha
What a great chapter! This brings me back to the sermon this past weekend… we looked through passages in Acts showing the continual, or exponential growth of the church through preaching and proclaiming God’s word. This is exactly what we need to be doing at our schools!! Let’s double it up!
This is a great passage and some verses that really stuck out to me were 18-21. The visual of how the day when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ returns to earth and takes all of his followers to come be with him in heaven.
Also verses 46 and 47 really made me think about my fellowship with other christians and how time with them to grow and put a strong focus on adding to the numbered of saved daily!!!!!!!!!
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
This chapter was so awesome!! But the best part for me was these two verses! How amazing to have people added DAILY!! We as True North have grown a lot but all theses verses in Acts make it look like lame sauce! This just shows us what God could be doing in our church and we should make it our passion for numbers to be added daily to our church so that we will be glorifying to GOD!!!
3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
Ah. Good memories from the missions trip.
41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
This verse stuck out to me. It’s insaane what the Lord can do. We think its just hard talking to our friends, but Peter spoke and brought 3000 people In one day!. we should be praying for this kind of growth every day
44All the believers were together and had everything in common.
45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
This really stuck out to me that all the believers were together and had everything in commmon. Now a days we here all about how we need to be about ourselves and not others, or its just about our family. Here we see that all the church was together and connected at all times. This idea in Acts is counter cultural now a days even in the church . I am reminded how important it is to consider the local church as your family. And to care and support one another as we would care for our immediate family. I pray that I can be a christian who is connected and concerned for others more than myself
41 says Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
3,000 people were added to their church in one day. How many does True North add every day? We need to get excited about preaching the word of God to others. As Christians we have 3 duties and responsibilities in regards to the Bible. We need to KNOW IT (2 Peter 3:17,18) We need to OBEY IT (Deut 4:40) and we need to PREACH IT (Matt. 28:19-20). So if we are serious about Doubling IT Up then we need to step up and be in God’s word daily. If you love God then you should be pumped about reading it. Psalm 119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
44All the believers were together and had everything in common.
I love the sense of unity expressed in this verse! This particular stuck out to me because I have several very close friends that I would have never clicked with had we not shared a commonality in Christ.
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Wow this chapter is amazing!! i loved the message given in veres 46 and 47. The Lord added to thier number DAILY, becuase they praisesd the Lord and enjoyed the favor of all people. This was really encouraging to read, knowing that there are many being added daily to the number of Christians in the world. I want to be one that is making that number grow!!!
Today we had ‘meet me at the pole’, at my school where a bunch of Christians met and prayed this moring. You have no idea how encouraging it was to see how many people were Christians at my school. It also lead to opportunities to talk about Christ, because people asked up what we were doing. It just showed me that the number is constantly multiplying!!
DOUBLE IT UP!! (:
4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
How amazing would it be to see that!!!!
38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This really hit me hard and it made me feel convicted and i NEED to start sharing the gospel more at school, just like Peter. I do tell others about Christ but i need to start making it a priority because so many people out there are living with out Christ and doing evil deeds. We need to double it up and start spreading the Word of God and keep adding to our numbers.
this chapter was so legit all over the place. First of all in the beginning of the chapter, it was so crazy how all the apostles started speaking in different languages. thats intense.
Also towards the end of the chapter in verse 41 3000 people were added to the church in that one day. that is so awesome to see the things that the church is truly capable of and how we can do that. So that is encouraging.
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
This verse was really cool. First of all it was cool to see that the church was meeting daily together. I think that it is important that we hang out with each other as fellow believers and not get mixed in with our friends that are not saved so that we do not get corrupted.(1 Corinthians 15:33) And then the verse goes on and says that while they were together they praised God. I think that this is important to see for us as High schoolers. It is so easy for us to just go after church to someones house and just chill and waste time, through this verse i learned and see that when we are hanging out with each other we should get into the Word or have some worship. And then at the end of the verse it says that the Lord added to there number daily those that were being saved. That is so cool. How amazing would that be if everyday someone through True North had repented and put there faith in Christ.
So through this passage we can learn alot and apply it to our lives at True North
21″And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The people at our schools and on our sports teams are not calling on the name of the Lord, and they never will without us talking to them. This made me realize that we need to spread the Word of God to everyone who needs to hear it, or they will perish; nobody wants our friends at school to live an eternity in hell. Time to double it up!
46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
We may not be able to meet at the temple courts (or at True North) every day. And we may only be able to get to each others homes once a week at small groups. But we can be here on Scripture of the Day everyday! And we can be praying that God will add to our church with new people getting saved. The work of True North ministries never stops!
Keep up the comments everyone!
Great comments everyone! They really encourage me.
This chapter reminded me of the message this weekend also. How their church grew drastically every day. We should be doing this every day to, and keep praying for boldness. When were at school, we need to remember not to fear what others think but to fear God.
It’s 11:47 at night and I was tired, but this chapter is so invigorating and inspiring! Verse 24 really stood out to me–
24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
Because of God’s incredible, divine power and His promise of salvation prophesied all over the Old Testament death could not keep Jesus in the tomb! How awesome is that?! Our Savior is alive and has conquered death and allowed us to be partakers of that in Him. Praise the Lord!
19I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
This is one way to determine if a person claims to be Jesus is wrong. Look at the signs of the Lord!!! The sun turned into darkness! Can a mere man do such a thing? We need to be on the lookout for the wolves in this world everyday….
