The River of Life
22:1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Jesus Is Coming
6 And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”
7 “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, 9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. (ESV)

What an amazing day this will be! Evil will have been done away with forever, we are now in the New Jerusalem, and we get to be in God’s presence and worship Him for all eternity! If you’ve ever heard Pastor Mike preach on heaven, you know about all the rewards that will be available to us: positions of authority, property, and many more. If we truly believe that this will be our final destination, then we will be doing everything we can to store up rewards for ourselves there, no matter what we have to give up in this life. If you love the world and the things oft his world more than you love God, you will not see this day. But if you are willing to lose everything in this world – including your own life – then you will experience true joy on the day that Christ returns with His rewards.

Mike, I am totally right there with you, this will be such an awesome day. When evil is gone and God has come to take from this world His own, we will be with Him and worshipping Him for all eternity. Like Mike said, we should be doing everything we can here on earth to serve God and store up for ourselves treasures in Heaven. MARANATHA!!!!!

This description of the new Jeruselem is awesome! There wont be any night because God’s glory will be so bright we won’t even nedd the sun. This is so cool and I really can’t wait to go there, but we do have to wait. It says that God will riegn there forever and ever. We will actually live in close quarters with God. It will be so amazing

Jesus is coming soon and we should be doing right and becoming holy. God set standards for us to live by. Live by these and we will be made holy.

The Lord is coming soon, and it will be like a thief in the night, and God has a reward with Him for those who persevere and those who have put their faith in Him. This is encouraging because if you obey what God says then, we will get rewarded, like living in New Jerusalem, the best place ever, where everything is going to be perfect. So let’s not be worried about this life, but the life to come with God.
19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
God takes His Scriptures very seriously. His revelation to man in the Word was finished when Revelation was completed, thus that is the end of the Bible. In this verse God is making it very clear that if anyone adds to or takes away any words from the book of Revelation, he will not have a share in eternal life. This is an important verse for us to share with those who are in cults like Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses and even Catholics who feel that God’s inspired Scripture is not enough. Each of the groups I listed above has either added a new book to the Bible (The Book of Mormom) or added rituals and sacraments to salvation (Catholics.) We must be veny honset with those who do not believe in the all sufficiency of the Bible and let them know how serious God takes this sin!

This is a great reminder of how important it is to study God’s word and to know it intimately and thoroughly. So many religions including factions of the so-called ‘Christian’ sector will distort God’s word either by adding to it or by leaving certain things out. This verse is a very valuable tool when evangelizing to those people. Gods’ word should be treasured and revered. Nothing is more powerful when witnessing to others…

When I am discouraged about the evil that goes on in this world; the politics, hatred, murder, hunger, strife, terrorism, torture…I remember this verse. One day the curse will be lifted!!! This life is only temporary. It’s not about this world. We are citizens of Heaven. And I don’t know about you but, I CAN”T WAIT to se my beautiful savior’s face!!!!! How awesome will that be? MARANATHA !!!!!!!!!!!

THREE times in this chapter Christ says he is coming soon! Now this is just the way i thought about it… but, the word “soon” can be quite relative. It could mean from a few months to a few minutes depending on the context of the situation. For example, if I said in april “summer will be here soon” that would mean in a few months. But if I called you on the phone and said “We are gonna be a bit late but we’ll be there soon” that would mean in the next few minutes.) So we don’t really know how soon in our terms when Christ is returning, it could be in the next minute or the next century or longer, but we do know that our work on earth is obviously not done because more people need to repent, turn from their sin, and live for Christ. So in essence, we CAN speed up Christ’s imminent return by evangelizing at every open door and DOING what we learned this weekend and getting people to church to hear the truth of God’s word so that they too can repent and live lives for Him! So lets step it up, and Double, Triple, Quadruple, (okay i looked the rest of these up:) Quintuple (5), Hextuple (6), Septuple (7), Octuple (8), Nonuple (9), Decuple (10), or even Centuple (100) it up for the Kingdom of God!!
Yes Jacob! AMEN! Wow this passage is simply amazing! Here we are at the end of the Bible and the completion of God’s love story to mankind. This chapter is specifically to the Christians because this is where they get to live with Christ forever and ever in complete worship. The more I’ve meditated about it, the more I can’t wait to see heaven. I know there are no tears in heaven, but I’m sure I’ll be welling up in sure awe and joy at meeting my Savior and experience the fullness of Him. This is just such a great reminder of how we need to have our earthly efforts focused on heaven so that we are living this life for the next (and better!) one.

I feel that this verse is so loaded. Each description of God here is so powerful, and I feel so humbled every time I read it. Yet, I also take comfort in the fact that the God who is so far beyond us is also the God who watches and protects us. HOW SWEET IS THAT!!! Oh I can’t wait until we reach the end with Christ. MARANATHA!

The spell these so called prophets have been able to cast on millions of people will clearly be dealt with. God will be the light that will never burn out, just like us! We should be that light that burns brightly and never burns out or dims for the kids at our school! These kids need God more than ever and we don’t want to cause them to stumble. Let us always remember that we are there example and we may be the only connection between God and themself. But yes I love everyone’s comments. I can’t wait to see my Lord Jesus!

I CAN’T WAIT!! like what Haley said in the locker room today, it is soo awesome to be able to read the ultimate positives of living in the New Jerusalem when He returns!! We need to strain toward what is ahead!! His name will be on my forehead, and i will see His face one day, but what about all those other people who don’t know Christ right now?? Lets help the church grow exponentially, inviting others to small groups or campus lunches…like what Bobby said this weekend!! Lets share the gospel with everyone we know, so that they can be with us one day worshiping our Father in heaven forever and ever!!

This is one of my favorite verses. It tells how Christ is the only messiah, the creator of earth, the whole universe and everything that is inside it. The earth and the heaven, and then the new earth and new heaven. and then how the last word is end, but only the end for some because after the judjement days if you are a faithful follower of Christ there really is not end for you because you will livee in the new jerusalem with Christ forever and ever, for eternity! and that is the greatest reward of all

These verses let us know that whoever adds or takes away from the Word of God will be punished. We cannot pick and choose what we like and what we don’t like out of the Bible, which a lot of people actually do. We are commanded to obey every single commandment that God gives us. We follow the easy stuff and the hard stuff. This chapter also says that the spiritual rewards are also to come, which makes every little thing worth it. Knowing that soon I’ll be face to face with Christ, I want to “make a good impression”, which means doing EVERYTHING God asks me to do in His Word!!
Oh man this is the best ending there is! No other book or life can have an ending that can compare to the one set for us believers. Come Lord Jesus and bring us to your house full of your holiness where there is no suffering or sin. Let us be prepared for your arrival and bring as many people to you as we can! Again, maranatha

Amen! Come Lord Jesus! This chapter is wonderful. I can’t wait to be without sin, and to be with God in a perfect place without the curse. I just want to think about heaven all the time. And I want everyone I know to go there too. Maranatha!

Wowowowowowowowowowowowowowow WOW!!!!!!!!! love it. this passage gives us extreme hope for the future. God is amazing. Can you even wait to be in heaven with him?
I am so excited for heaven, and am striving everyday to live more and more like Christ. This chapter really encouraged me to keep growing in my faith, and living everyday by His commands.

This verse really hit me. God is everything! And her shoud be our everything! and when he sees that he is not number one in our life, he will take what is in place or competing with him, and take it away. He will continue to do so until you realize and come back to Him!! HE IS OUR EVERYTHING!!!

Jesus is coming soon, and we should be getting ready. Not only preparing our own hearts, but bringing others into the Christian faith. We should be charing the news to others, so Jesus will return!! I don’t want to see my friends go to hell. I want to be the ones that brings them to Christianity.

I love these two verses. Christ is coming soon. Amen. That just feels really good to say. God is coming soon and He promises peace as we seek His will in the meantime. Let’s make use of what He has given to us, evangelizing to others, and making sure He is pleased with us when He returns. But really, Come soon Lord Jesus. It’s funny how everybody said it last year during this chapter and is saying it again-but basically it works-so, MARANATHA Lord Jesus, Come Today. Amen.
This chapter is so encouraging! Christ is coming soon, and all of the horrors of the earth will be no more. Like Mrs. Burke said, there is a lot of murder, hatred, torute, etc in this world, and it is sick. some of the things that people make into movies (like Saw and all those other creepy slasher films that scare the heck out of me) and it is sad to think of what this world has come to. thankfully the Lord has promised the return of Christ, so we can eagerly await the day the he comes and we can live with the Father in heaven forever. It is so great that we have been the gift of life thorugh the blood of Christ, and since the Lord will return like a thief in the night, we should be out there spreading His word!!! Maranatha!

Maranatha! The Lord will be coming at any time, any minute, or any second! I am just hoping that you are ready for when the Lord comes. You better be ready for the Lord’s coming and His judgment. You want to repent of your sin before this happens or it is just over for you. Your whole point of life on this earth is to repent of your sin, choose to turn to God, and spread the Word of God to everyone else on this earth. Like Chewy’s shirt, in it, but not of it.

I know almost everybody has posted about this verse but it is amazing. I am so excited for the day the Lord comes. He could come any time, even while i’m typing this paragraph so we as Christians need to be prepared and we also need to prepare those not prepared ready for his coming.

This is an awesome verse for a Christian to read. I cant wait and I repeat I CANT WAIT for the Lord to come and ressurect us from this world. But this is also a very scary and alarming verse for non-Christians. This means that if the Lord comes and you’re not a Christian you will not be resurrected up with everyone else. you will have to face 7 years of tribulation down here on earth. You get another chance at it, but it will be like hell. You will be tortured if say you are a follower of Christ, so it would probably be better if you become a Christian before Christ comes back.

What does this mean for the Catholics? Didn’t they change certain words in the Bible, or at least preach them that way? Example: “unless you do pennance…” where as our Bibles have it written as “unless you repent…”
We really are blessed beause we are not mislead by false prophets. Our church follows the Bible and does not add or take away from it. We have to show people (Catholics and others) that you cannot add or take away from the Bible because it is complete and sufficient in itsellf.
Amen come Lord Jesus…something for us to really be exited about. I can see how exited I can get about a new guitar or multi colored shirt. I want to be 1000000000000000 times more exited for Christ second coming.

This is motivation for me to keep pressing on. Jesus could come at any moment. God will judge me based on what I have done (not by my good intentions or plans). I don’t want to put anything off to the future that I know God wants me to do now. This reminds me of Proverbs 3:27, “Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.”

This is so cool. God is everything. Like how can someone be first and last and the beginning and the end. I will tell u. No one can only God and that is so cool for us as Christians like God is the greatest no one can be above him he is all powerful. Love this verse!!!!! and i can not wait for the second coming of Christ so we can finally go to our true home!!!!!!
