My Refuge and My Fortress
91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.” (ESV)

2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Such a good mindset to have! I used to rely on myself more than trust in God, and that turned out to be a problem. But trusting in him and leaving my reliance on the Lord is so much better! He determines 100% of me and my focus, and I have learned not to run to myself if there is a situation, but to run to my Savior! He is my refuge and fortress! There is no reason to NOT trust God! Learning and applying that was one of the best decisions, because without trusting in him, well…. that would not be good!
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
How comforting is this!? When evil comes to be harmful, the Lord will take care of me and I will find refuge in him! Its just like when you go evangelizing, its important to have the full armor of God on! He will protect, and be faithful! The Lord does what he says he will do and that is something worth putting your trust in for sure!
Ps 91:14-16 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Promises made and paid for! I can sleep soundly through any trial because of His perfect salvation. I’ll have trouble here but life for ever with God! Thank You Lord!
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
God is saying He will rescue His people, the people that love Him. He will protect them because they acknowledge His name. When one of them calls on Him, God says He will answer him, and He will be with them when they are in trouble. He says He will protect them and deliver them and honor them. This is all to those that love the LORD. The same cannot be said about those who do not love the LORD. They are sinners who have not been saved by Jesus Christ. Because no one has come to take their sins, the burden is still on their back and they will have to face the punishment for their sin, that is, eternal punishment in the fires of hell. Unlike those who are lost and headed in that direction, I need not have any fear, for I know that God will rescue me because I love Him. I know that since I acknowledge His name instead of seeking the glory for myself, the LORD will protect me. When I call to Him, He will answer me, and in times of trouble He will deliver me and honor me. So I need not have any fear, for God is in control and won’t let anything happen to me that is outside of His perfect will.
HA! I took the first verse and made that into my song that I had wrote a while back. It’s such a great reminder that we will find peace if we seek His face. God is our refuge and our shelter and this Psalm is a great reminder that though we go out into the battlefield everyday, we are protected by Jesus Christ who gives us our shield and all the armor of God…it reminded me of the amazing book that I’m reading through, Pilgrim’s Progress. (LOVE THAT BOOK! Thanks Christa!). I just got to a part where the man, Christian, recieves the armor of God. It protects him from all of God’s enemies and keeps him safe from harm….And I have that same armor on!! That is soooo cool! Now today I shall go out to the battlefield and remember that and that God is with me by my side. oh and I shall also draw a pic in tutorial today of my treading upon a lion and a cobra….I love that pic! :D
16 “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
With my entire life, I want to satisfy God. This should be a Christian’s goal, everything God has given me I want to return it to satisfy Him. I want to prove to God my salvation, I need to put it in action. (Proving God my salvation doesn’t mean trying to earn it, it means putting it into action and showing Him my best.) I need to work on having my entire life about satisfying God and showing Him my salvation.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
Gods love is unfailing. We should follow is ways and honor him. He gave is only son to die for our sins. Now that is a something I do not deserve. I crave his protection, but I have to earn it and be connected with him everyday. Just a simple prayer will let him know that I love him and want to talk to him. I will rise when he calls my name for I will not be ashamed. Verse 15 I will definitly honor my God and let no one talk down on him.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
Seriously how amazing is this?! Knowing that BECAUSE God enabled me to love Him through the work of Christ on the cross I can rest assure that He is going to protect me and lead me safely home into His presence; I find so much comfort, rest and joy in that! When I am in trouble if I am seeking Him and His glory I can rest assure that He is going to vindicate and make His glory known and keep me in His hands…oh the love of our God that He has for us!!
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
What a good representation of how God protects us. When i’m under His “wings”, nothing can get to me, and i’m also sheilded from seeing anything bad as well. Under His wings i find refuge, because He is the only one who can fully protect me from everything, so He is the only true peace. And He is always like this, He’s faithful. And because He is I can trust that He will always be there, like a shield is always in front protecting you. I’m not sure what a rampart is, but i’m sure it has something to do with God being the defender!
“You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.”
The two verses prior to this are the verses that Satan quoted to Jesus when he was tempting Him. It’s awesome to see how the verse after relates to that situation as well. The names in this verse are two of the names used to describe Satan and God promises us that we will trample them! Our God is awesome and I need to be in awe of that every day. Lord use me today to trample the “serpent” and defeat temptation when it fights for my soul.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
This psalm is an amazing reminder that God grants security to those who trust in Him. As I was reading the psalm I was struck by the promise we have if we are have responded rightly to the gospel. If we truly have turned from our sin and put our trust in Christ then we can live a life of victory on earth. I know that I will still have trials on earth, but ultimately no trial will touch me without the foreknowledge of the Father and without it working for my good. (Romans 8:28) Thank you, Lord, for your promised protection and the security I have in you.
Goodmorning . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 91 . . .
Because I’m on God’s team, He won’t let anything happen to me. Why? Because He has angels around me proecting me from the evil out in the world. The whole chapter says that if I don’t have God as my Rock and Refuge, that the wicked will come to me. However, if He IS my refuge and sanctuary, then the evil and wicked will stay away from me and not even come near me. The Angel will, “12. they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Pretty powerful to think about actually. Now I know, that when I walk around in the world, that I won’t be walking alone. But instead, right at my side, will be my Savior, along with angels. Comforting knews for children of God. =)

=) ~ Ariana Mishreki ~ =)
It is so encouraging how this Psalm describes God’s sovereignty in the protection of his people. Nothing bad will happen, no harm will come to God’s children unless he is permitting it and he is using it to work in our lives together for his glory (Romans 8:28).
What really stood out to me was how he describes God as the “Most High”…
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
Sometimes I fear things because I see them as having some power over me or over my life, but God is the Most High! There is no one above him, no one more powerful or more wise than him! My prayer today is that I would not be distracted or give to fear or worry but do what this chapter says and “dwell” in him. I can have complete trust and absolute surrender to the Most High God!
I was so encouraged by this Psalm this morning. It is a great reminder of how the Lord takes care of those who take refuge in him.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge
What a beautiful picture of how the Lord takes care of us as a mother hen takes care of her chicks. I can picture a big wing with lots of warm feathers engulfing me. It is so good to read Psalms that talk about Gods love for those who are his. Nothing is greater than a picture of a mothers love for her children and yet that is how God loves us and even more. I would do anything for Aubrey if she fell I would scoop her up and hold her tight, if she was cold I would wrap my arms around her and stroke her little back, and the Lord is doing the same for us. That is amazing.
But in Verse 14 all of this is put into perspective. God’s love for his children is unconditional, but also conditional. For the LORD says
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
There is a condition for the love of God and that is that we love him. IT says here “Because he loves me I will” ….If your life is not characterized by obedience love for God a complete surrender to your will and your life. Or as the Psalm says if you do not acknowledge his name you are not given these promises. But if your life is then he is your refuge and he will take care of you in every way. I pray that each of us will acknowledge him as Lord, Adonai which means Master and that our life would reflect this thought process and attitude today.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
I love this psalm–it is so encouraging for those who are on God’s team! This verse struck me because it’s saying that there still will be scary nights and harmful arrows that fly by, BUT we will not fear them. This psalm isn’t saying that our lives will be perfect and easy…it’s just saying that even though there will be difficult and scary things in this world–we don’t need to fear them if we love the Lord and are living for Him. He has everything under control.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
woah this is really interesting! Angels will protect us in all of our ways…can someone explain this verse a little more!?
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.—-This is so comforting! This reminds me that I need to put all of my trust in the LORD and give everything to Him and He will protect me through whatever! He will always answer on me when I call on Him! I need to show my love for the LORD more and call on Him over anything else! I am going to stick to God’s plan.
MARANATHA!!
stoked for small groups!!!! :D
Response to KJ: I think it goes along with verse 14, when God is saying that he will protect those who call upon his name, personally, I interpreted it to mean that he will not tempt us beyond what we can bear (I Corinthians 10:13) also, he has f=protected us from Hell and eternal suffering my sending his son to die on the cross.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
I love this verse. It shows Gods faithfulness. It shows his love and mercy. We do not deserve anything to deserve being rescued and protected. The Lord loves us so much! he is so faithful! He deserves all our praise. All we need to do is focus on God and call out his name, he will answer and protect us! This is a great verse to help remind me to turn to the Lord in times of trouble or persecution, because he promises he will rescue us and protect us, and the Lord is always faithful.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 5,”You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,”
When we take refuge in GOD we have nothing to fear and even if we did we would show no fear. When we are in GOD’s refuge we can’t be hurt or harmed or taken away from GOD.
CYA
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
What an awesome promise! If I dwell in the shelter of God, if I obey and keep God’s commands I can rest in the shadow of Almighty God!!! What can harm me there? Nothing. What do I need to worry about? Nothing. God is in control, I can rest in his shadow and I don’t need to fear or worry. What an awesome God we serve!
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
If God is on our side, whom shall we fear besides him. Man can only kill our fleshly beings but God can condom our souls to eternal damnation. God is the only thing in this world that we should fear. That is a very hard concept for me to live out in my life. If someone told me that they would kill me, I would be afraid, but God is saying to not be afraid because if I die, that means I will see him sooner!
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
This verse really reminds me of Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This is an important concept to grasp but we all need to. I need to pray for more faith in Christ and trust that I truly can do all things through him who strengthens me.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
This Psalm definitely glorifies God for His saving works and helps me get a picture of trusting in Him to rescue from the wicked! These verses made me stop and contemplate about the angels, and how even the angels would be, or are, so quick to obey the Lord’s commands. Therefore, this led to me thinking about my obedience to God…which can always use some improvement!! I need to obey the Lord in everything I do to show Him that I love Him. :D
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
I’ve been doing so much better with trusting God. I’ve noticed that God really does take care of His people when they trust in Him. And the key to that is Prayer. Prayer is essential in a Relationship with Christ
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
God is our fortress and keeps us protected no matter what He is always by us protecting us.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
When I read this verse first thing this morning, I knew I was in for a sweet day on SOTD!
One thing I love about this first verse is how it uses the word “rest.” Even though we may not be physically resting or we might be in a dangerous situation, we can be at rest because our refuge is the Most High! That’s awesome. And someday, we will rest eternally with him!
Kyle- While we do not think a lot about angels, this chapter talks about how God uses angels to protect his people. We don’t know exactly how this works, but God promises this. Pretty cool, huh!?
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
It is easy to skim over verses like this and convince ourselves that we are trusting in Christ, but we should always be checking our hearts instead of taking it for granted. For instance, lately I had been getting increasingly frustrated with the recovery process for my shoulder, and I was holding on to that anger and letting it build. Only when it was pointed out to me did I realize that instead of trusting that God was in control and had a plan for me through this trial, I was trying to take matters into my own hands, and then responding poorly when my plans failed. Instead, I need to trust that God is smarter than I am, that he knows what is best for me, and that no matter what situation He puts me in I need to be living for His glory, not being sidetracked by trivial sinful matters.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
I love these verses becaus its showing how God will protect us. That we should not be scared of anything just knowing that God is there with us always. It is really just a neat thing to know that no mater where you are or how scared or nervous you get God is there.
Psalm 91:1 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Do you know what I just realized…God IS Almighty. I mean — I was just thinking — If God “has my back” then who can be against me? If, through faith, I am presented in Christ as holy before God, then won’t God make means to protect and provide for me just as he would for His Son, Jesus Christ?
Why then do I even worry? I have no reason to fret. It’s simple — God is Almighty, and if I “dwell in the shelter of the Most High”, no power on heaven or on earth can harm me apart from the will of God. That’s awesome! That gives me hope that I will have no temptation or adversity except what God knows I can bare.
God’s love is so great that he has chosen to give me (his ugly enemy), a promise as Romans 8:28. My love is but filthy rags and yet God works for my good! God is truly amazing and far more gracious then I have ever realized!
Praise the Lord!
SC small groups tomorrow @ my house!! Gonna be legit! :-)
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
As Christians we have the Lord on our side. Nothing will happen to us unless He allows it. We should fear nothing and no one. Who can be against when God is with us.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
This Psalm was amazing!! I have probably said that many times, but it is so true! The Psalms are so amazing because they are encouraging, convicting, and they help us learn more about God, and who He is! I loved these verses because they are so encouraging. Being a Christian is awesome because this will happen. As a Christian, eventually I will see people on earth who live their lives how they want, but sadly, they will suffer. This is a good and encouraging thing to know when there is suffering, but it is also a sad thing too. Watching people suffer?? That does not sound pleasant to watch. Even though it is sort of depressing, it gave me just another reason to help save people that I care for. I am not saying that I can save them, only God can do that, but I can at least get them thinking about how their eternal life is going to go.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
this is a very comforting couple of verses, it says that God will command his angels to guard you in all your ways and that they will not let us strike a foot against a stone. Now that does not mean we are nver going to stub our toe on a stone or that we will never be hurt by others, but it meanse that God has a plan and he will not let anything happen to you that he has not planned to happen.
c all the laguna hills and mission people at the small group tonite
God help me to evangilize at school to ever person. We pray that there will be a revivel at school and I pray for our high school group to be helpful for others.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
This is such an awesome verse. Whenever we are in danger or going through difficult times, the Lord is with us. He will deliver us and protect us when we call upon His name. Like this chapter says in verse 2, He is our refuge and our fortress. It is such a blessing to have a God that truly cares when we go through hard times.
i really liked this psalms(:
the psalmist started out by saying: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I think this is what this psalms is based on. Now notice the second half of this verse, “will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” the key word here is shadow. now if you have noticed in our many years of living on the Earth, when you are outside in the sun, you have something called a shadow. And no matter how fast you run, it will always follow you. It is the same thing with this opening verse here. This dude is saying, he who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty! Now, being in the shadow of God is pretty awesome. Look at all the things he will give you if you are in that position in verses 3-13. Is is filled with cool things you will be protected over and more!
Well a lot of you are probaly thinking: dudee, being in God’s shadow is cool, but how do i get there? Well look at the beginning of verse one, it says he who dwells in the shelter of the Most High!
Which brings up another question…How do I get to dwell in the shelter of the Most High? Skip down to verse 14 with me and look what the psalmist wrote: “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
Wow! the answer is really simple as it says in verse 14, love the Lord! For when you love the Lord, He will rescue you , for you acknowledged his name!
How great is that!
To recap:
Point 1: Stay in the shadow of the Almighty
Point 2: Make God your dwelling place
Point 3: Love the Lord your God!
(:
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
This verse is one of those little “wrappy-up-verses.” This verse is so encouraging and comforting to me as I go through life as a Christian-the walk isn’t easy. Im so comforted by this verse knowing that God is always there and always protecting me. If we are trusting fully on God alone and puting our mind on the reward coming up, then he promises that we will be in the shadow of his protection. This verse also promises that he will answer our prayers or cries out for help. This puts me in such awe of our almighty God.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
I trust the LORD with all my life and I know that He knows what will happen to me. The LORD is good and I will praise Him in all that I do. :]
***PRAISING HIM!!!***
Thanks Ben! ok, I get what you’re saying!
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
When I read this I think about spiritual death. Although my flesh may be killed, I am saved spiritually. I just want to see Christ and fall down at His knees. He saved me from eternal death even though i do wrong. I also want to witness more and do God’s work.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
These verses are especially close to my heart, and arguably the most comforting, and perhaps best, in Psalms. When I was younger I was really afraid, practically terrified around Christmas time. There was no real plausible reason, but I was petrified. I was imaging every sort of creature coming into our house and hurting me. Perhaps I had seen a scary movie, I can’t remember. But then I went into the bible and found these verses, and they calmed me down instantly. To this day I love them dearly.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
I know there are times that my tendency is to rely on myself or others besides the Lord, but i need to remember that the Lord is my refuge and I need go to him for everything. I am so blessed to have a God who knows me inside and out and has a plan for my life. He deserves my praise!
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
This is an awesome thing to say to the Lord in all circumstances. Sometimes it seems like He can’t protect from certain things but He IS in control of every situation! I trust Him because He will work all things together for good…
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
Thank you God for delivering me from these things. You are infinitly amazing and powerful.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him
This verse is so awesome because it talks about how loving God will rescue and protect His people who love Him and call upon His name. If I call and seek God, I know I can always rely on His faithfulness and know that He is always with me through everything including the troubled times where I need Him the most. These verses keep me going! God will deliver and honor me and He is always there to answer me with His will, and not mine. I can’t wait for smallgroups =]] yay!
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
This is the best. I am so thankful that God will rescue and protect me because I have acknowledge his Great name. God You are so good to me thank you
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This psalm–and this verse in particular–is an awesome inspiration to me to commit my life fully to God. Ever since the Compass Men’s Conference, I’ve been thinking about what it means to be “all in,” to truly “dwell” in the my faith. This psalm is a strong reminder that dwelling in God means always making Him the place I go to for life, for hope, protection, and love. I shouldn’t be seeking those things in the world. Most times when I slip and turn to myself or to something else instead of turning to God it’s because I’m afraid–either of failing at something or missing out on something or of losing control of something, etc. But this psalm reassures me that if I make God my refuge and put my full trust in Him, He will be faithful and I won’t need to fear anything, even death. He will satisfy me. That’s an awesome promise!
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
This verse is so awesome. In the verse itis saying that we should fear nothing if the Lord is our refuge. This is so true. If the Lord is on our side and He is protecting us, who or what is there to truly fear because nothing or nobody is even close to being powerful as God. It is so great knowing that the Lord is my refuge and shelter.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone
Everyone’s all like,”if God was real, then why is there evil in the world?”
these struck chords, cuz like in my AP euro class we were talking about how the people in the renaissance were saying how they know that going to heaven is important, but they also say that making money to make life better is also important; and I was in facebook a few hours ago, and I saw Sarah G’s notes on “worldly questions that people asked her in school”, and I thought it was pretty cool.
Anyways. I’m saying these things cuz it cross-references to matthew 4, when Jesus gets tempted by the devil.
God puts us to the test all the time, but its to prove ourselves to Him; to honor him with all our mind, all our strength, with all our soul–just like Job did. Job lost everything, but he still praised God despite what happened.
God is AWSOME!!! XD
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
these two verses are so encouraging! a recurring theme in the psalms is that if we trust in the Lord and His promises He has revealed through Christ and His Word, and if we draw near to Him, we will be blessed and He will draw near to us. we know that Satan cannot overcome us, nor can anything if we have God. Paul belabors this point in Romans 8:31-39, where he talks about how if God is with us, who can be against us? i am so thankful and awed that i have a refuge who is good and mercy like God. praise be to Him for His unfailing love and grace!
This was such an amazing psalm about God and His incredible love and care for us. I only regret that I didn’t read it soon after I woke up, because today was one of those days where I struggled with many frustrations.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
I need to focus on God’s love and all the wonderful things He has provided me and to not get caught up in my problems or inconveniences. I need to place my trust in God, for what are my problems if God is my Most High?
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Why will God do all these things for us? Because we love him. And how do we show him we love him? Through obedience. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey whatever I command.” With a faithful Lord and these promises, how could we not obey him?
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
first off so so so happy i went to small groupsss!!!! looking forward to a great upcomming year!
Love this verse, i can always use a reminder that God is always with me…I constantly have someone looking out fo rme and i can turn to HIm whenever! The sad thing is i get so cuaght up in doing everything and taking on the world by myself i neglect the help and guidance that i have right next to me! This week and on i am going to remind myself to put God as the center of my life and from there i know everything will fall into place!
14.) “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
This reminds me of the passage in Matthew when it says that if we are ashamed to proclaim Jesus’ name here, He will be ashamed of us in front of the Father. No one wants this, I know I don’t, so let’s get out there and be unashamed of our Lord. (Romans 1:16)
This psalm is awesome!
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
In my study Bible it says that word for love means “clinging” or “deep longing”. This is so encouraging to me because I can have faith that, even if I am not feeling close to God, if I am clinging or deeply longing for God then He will protect, answer, honor, and comfort me! This is sooooo cool. God you are so great and good to me; I am clinging to you my Savior!
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
I’m totally encouraged by this Psalm! As a believer I do not need to fear anything that is in the world because God is with me. Because God is completely sovereign and completely in control I can trust Him in all things. I need to stop worrying and fearing the things of this world and remember that God is my refuge.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
Ahh, rest sounds good right now. Though we are promised trials and troubles in this world (John 16:33) we can rest in the finished work of Christ, because he has overcome the world. I love the song “Only in God is my soul at rest, in him is my salvation.” Our souls were made to be at rest in God. Nothing else will satisfy and put them at ease. Maranatha! Right now though, even within the trials, we can find rest for our souls.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
this is sooo awsome! the Lord is my shelter, i have nothing to fear at all! i need to keep this mindset allways. i will trust in the Lord always.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
This is awesome!! I love how we can come to the Lord and feel safe in His presence through everything! A fortress is such a strong structure, and ours is the God of everything!
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
It is so encouraging to know that we have the Lord of the Universe as our refuge and fortress. I am so thankful that i have him to fall back on when things get tough, and Him to trust in. This psalm was absolutely amazing! It just shows how perfect and holy and trustworthy God is; how much we can count of him and put everything we have into him. He is such a mighty God, and deserves my praise!!!
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
In reading these verses, i feel uplifted in knowing that there are angels from God watching over me. Somehow this verse gave me a smile to my face knowing that God is always there and He will never leave me. Rest assure God is awesome and His love covers us all.
This Psalm is Awesome!!!
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
I love this verse. God is saying that as long as my trust is in him, He will answer me anytime I call! That is so awesome, to know that anything I ask in God’s name will be answered. He also says he will be with me in trouble- There’s no one else I would rather have to be with me in time of need than the Creator of the Universe! Now that is protection! The LORD will deliver me.. this is the ultimate gift that he has given me by sending Jesus to die and rise again! And HE will honor ME? It seems like it should be the other way around! Wow.. to have the God of the Universe honoring me- that is the single most amazing thing I could ever imagine!
1 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
9 “If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;”
14 ‘ “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.’
How awesome and comforting it is to know that we who are in Christ can rest in the security and safety God gives! If I’ve made Him my “dwelling,” then He will take care of me and I shouldn’t be worrying about anything. God, help me to rest secure and assured in you.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
What a beautiful Psalm this is. Verse 14 stood out to me tonight. It’s an awesome promise from God, assuring us of his protection over our lives. No matter what hardships come our way, we will never be fighting the battles alone. God is always there with us and like the verse says, he will rescue us. Knowing this, I want to call out to God for everything, being confident that he will never let me down. Praise be to God, the Lord Almighty. Let’s acknowledge his name everywhere we go!
Whoa True North it is so encouraging to read all of your comments!
And what an encouraging psalm this is about the intimacy we can have in our relationship with God!
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
This last verse is an awesome promise from God that he wants to satisfy us!
I remember when David gave in to sin with Bathsheba and then tried to cover it up by killing her husband Uriah. When the prophet Nathan confronts David he speaks on behalf of the Lord. He reminds David of all the good things he gave him and then he says as if God is speaking, “And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more (2 Samuel 12:8).”
I am greatly encouraged by the fact that God is interested in satisfying his people and showing us salvation. When I get discouraged I will turn to the Lord in prayer and not seek to be satisfied anywhere else.
Small groups tomorrow night!!!!
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
God is all powerful and I take refuge in Him! God is completely powerful and nothing that comes at me can get past Him. This reminds me of 1 Corinthians 10:13~ “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
Wow! 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
Love this verse! God states in all these verses that he will protect us if we acknowledge his name and if we make the Most High our dwelling. God says that because we love him, he will rescue us and protect us because we acknowledge his name and make it known. In small groups tonight we made goals and mine is to evangelize. Although we acknowledge his name, we should also tell others about the Lord and how they should acknowledge Him. In these verses he promises us protection and guidance. He will shield us from any harm. It also says that no disaster will come near out tent. The Lord will surely protect and guide us all the days of our lives, but we need to repent of our sins and acknowledge his name forever!
Small groups went good tongiht! Looking forward to the rest of the year (:
V. 14
When I read the last part of this verse “for he acknowledges my name” it made me think do I always acknowledge God right away for everything and that is something I want to work on. Everything good is defenitely a gift from God and I want to praise Him for everything.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
The news is buzzing with ways to protect yourself, invest in gold and everything. People would not have to worry about finances or disaster if they just had trust in the Lord and followed His commandments.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
It is only with the help of God that we can overcome the great lion/serpent aka Satan himself. This verse gives me hope that we are able to overcome all that the devil chooses to throw our way. It is written, but God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But he will always provide a way out so that you may be able to stand up under it. As our battle rages against the serpent, remember this verse and you will be comforted. Praise the Lord for His glorious Word!!!!!
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I love the picture in this verse. God is our shelter, we rest in His shadow. I just think of how hot it was this summer, and how I would just crave being the shade because it was there that I was content. God is that shade, that shadow, the roof over my head when the world brings trials raining on me. God is so good, and I’m praying that I always remember to run to HIS shelter before anyone or anything else!!!
Praying for small groups, back to school revival, campus lunches, and finally…. MARANATHA!!!!!
I remember I once had this psalm memorized. This is such an amazing psalm and there is so much to say!
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
I love these two verses so much because they remind me of God’s promise. The Lord is faithful to rescue us and protect us, but he only protects those who achknowledge him and love him. Love is echoed through obediance as we see in John 14, nearly the entire second half of the chapter is strictly this concept. But the best part is in the next verse.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Those last four words there are what really push and motivate me! the motivation brought by God’s promise of Heaven is ecstatic and should be the thought in the back of our minds along with the Gospel that Christ fulfilled! Thank you God for saving me, let me not stop standing.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
I love this verse because it again reminds me of how I should just put all my strust, worries, and burdens on him. I mean how awesome is this, that he loves us enough to want to take up all our problems, forgive us and still love us! It just makes me so happy and gateful to have such an awesome God! He will protect me from everything the devil has to put in my way, thank you Lord! Maranatha!
Psalm 91
Wow what assurance of God’s great protection and security is voiced in this psalm. What an encouraging psalm to meditate on in tough times. Students in True North are facing a lot of temptation now that they are back in school. We have to stand firm in Christ and resist the temptations that once ruled over us. For those who trust in God will find shelter in the shadow of God’s sovereign rule. I hope that we are prepared with people that we can lean on and call when confronted by evil. A strand of three is not easily broken.
Psalm 144:2 He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
God should our shelter and our refuge. Like Pastor Mike was talking about a few weeks ago, if draw near to God, He will be there for us. We should also be representing God no matter where we are, or who the people. Like the psalmist says “I will say of the LORD,” we should tell everyone that God is our refuge and also praise Him for that reason. I definitely need to be like the psalmist in telling everyone of the LORD and let them know that there is hope for salvation and safety from punishments like gnashing of teach. Praise Him for all He has done and will do!!!
