Book Four
From Everlasting to Everlasting
A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.
90:1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You return man to dust
and say, “Return, O children of man!”
4 For a thousand years in your sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night.
5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
like grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it fades and withers.
7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.
8 You have set our iniquities before you,
our secret sins in the light of your presence.
9 For all our days pass away under your wrath;
we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
and your wrath according to the fear of you?
12 So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord! How long?
Have pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands! (ESV)

11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
This verse stood out to me because before I first became saved, I didn’t have that much knowledge. I thought God was only love, “the warm and fuzzies.” Praise God for his word which clearly states that God is many things! He is a jealous God, he is powerful, and an angry God as well! It is important to fear the Lord! That is an attractive quality in someone if they are God fearing! God’s wrath is as great as the fear that is due you….. that seems intense. I know I definitely fear God when it comes to evangelizing! I used to be terrified of going out and talking to people, but the Missions Trip and the evangelism nights on Saturday have definitely helped me and now its a passion to evangelize to others! I know I need to be bold and fearless on my school campus as well! Fearing the Lord is the beginning of knowledge!!!
Ps 90:8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
Moses saw that God knows everything and He still paid for every sin through the cross of Jesus! That’s illogical and surpasses my ability to understand why – but He did. Now, since He has done that for His glory, what does He want me to do today to please Him? He certainly wants me to share the gospel with others and to love others sacrificially. Lord, send Your Spirit again today to guide me and change me in order to do what You’ve asked me to do…
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
This psalm expresses the truth that our life is like the grass of the fields, seemingly alive and vibrant at one moment, but dead the next. It is a sober psalm that discusses the dire condition of man before a holy and eternal God. Verse 12 stood out to me because it is the cry of my heart. Since life is so short and we have no idea how many days we will be granted on this earth, we must be sure that we are asking God to help us make the most of each day we have. We must spend each day that we are granted breath and life by using it for eternal purposes to the glory of God. Lord, please help me to be wise with each day I am alive. Help me to not be caught up in a temporal, earthy agenda, but to devote my days to You and Your agenda. Give me the ability to fight the temptation to be a slave to the world and what is says is important. Help me to spend each day with a kingdom mindset, investing in things you find valuable like relationships.
7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
I love this verse because it reminds and shows me the anger that God has that I sometimes forget about. In times where I struggle I will sin and not even realize what I have done and how I envoke the anger of God a second thought. I need to work on this and try to always keep this verse in mind at all times.
P.S. Pray for me to get well because I’m sick.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Moses is asking God to satisfy him and his people in the morning with His unfailing love. With the situation Mose and the Israelites are in, they really need unfailing love. They have messed up so many times as they left Egypt for the Promised Land. They complained and grumbled, they made of calf idol of gold and worshiped it as they grew tired of waiting for Moses to bring back the Ten Commandments, Moses got angry and struck a rock with his rod when God instructed him to only speak to it, and so much more. Yet God’s love is unfailing, and that gives the Israelites a reason to sing for joy and be glad all of their days. The Israelites are definitely not the only ones, though, who have messed up a lot. All humans are sinful and sin over and over again. Yet God loved the world in the way that He sent down His Son as a savior to die. And God demonstrates His unfailing love to His people. He will never let them down and He will never stop loving them. I can always rely on God to love me when I am unlovable, and by nature I am an unlovable sinner. I need to sing for joy and be glad all of my days because of the LORD’s great unfailing love to me. And I need to strive not to love others as I want them to treat me, but instead to love others as I have been loved by God!
11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
The LORD’s wrath is so incredibly tremendous… I need to fear God more than anything else. In fact, The LORD is the only thing I should fear. If I fear God, He’ll take care of everything else!
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Nobody knows how long they are gonna live. Nobody knows exactly when, where, and how they’ll die. This verse is important because no one knows how many days they have. So the psalmist says that He wants the Lord to teach him how to count His days the right way. What does that mean? Well it means being able to spend your days in a way that is using them to do what God wants, instead of wasting away the time that you have. This way, God will give him insight and a heart of wisdom. So instead of wasting my life away by being lazy, i should count the days the right way. That way God will give me a heart of wisdom.
The length of our days is seventy years— or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
I can’t say that I love this verse, but I think its a great description of life here on earth. God doesn’t promise us health, wealth or prosperity in our lives here on earth. Rather we can expect a life filled with troubles and sorrow. The good news is our time on earth will quickly pass, and if we are Christians will spend an eternity in heaven when we die. Thats why its so important to have a proper view of the daily struggles that I have. Life is short, trials and struggles are the norm, not the exception. So I need to work through the problems by keeping my hope and trust in the Lord. I need to view trials and struggles as opportunities to shine even more brightly for the Lord.
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
With God, there are no secrets. He knows all. God knows all the sins we do yet He still forgives us. This is just so awesome that God is so loving and forgiving to save us from sinful ways, living for ourselves but He turned us around, from heading towards an eternity of pain and suffering to an eternity with Him in Heaven. I pray that would hold nothing back, that God would completely take over my life and that their would be nothing to hide.
8 “You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in light of your presence.”
I need to always remember that I can’t hide anything from God, He is all-knowing. I will be judged for every sin I have commited. Nothing can run or hide from God. Everything I have done will be laid bared before Him, nothing can be hidden from God’s sight. Even if I think I’ve gotten away with a sin, I’ll ultimately be punished for any sin I’ve gotten away with or not.
Everybody . . . ————————————————ALEX’S 18th BIRTHDAY’S TODAY!!!!!!!——————————————————
Goodmorning . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 90 . . .
“14. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”
May I not go without a day of praising my God. Most of the time when I’m doing school, I’ll usually be singing an awesome worship song that brings praises to my Heavenly Father’s name. The verse above, clearly states that all of the days we are alive here on earth, we are to be praising to God and singing joy. In return, God will have never ending love apon us. All of the verses in this chapter were very powerful and detailed on the coming Day. It’s also true how when man will die, we will turn BACK INTO dust.
“17. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.”
I also really loved this vese. Jesus, I want you to mold my hands and have them do whatever You want them to do. Solve what they are to do and what works they are to preform under Your amazing asurnace. Jesus you have created me, so tell me what I am to do with Your body. =)

12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
This was a point from one of our WBS studies over the summer. Something I thought about briefly and then forgot. What a great reminder through the Psalms. It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day trials or just “life in general” and can forget that our life here on earth is but a moment in the view of eternity. If I live with the mindset that my days our numbered than my life would be changed drastically because I would remember that it is not about me. I would be more aware that each moment I live should have purpose. I love the answer to this statement, “that we may gain a heart of wisdom”. If we live as though our days are numbered than everything we do would be in light of this fact and therefore we would be more wise in each situation because we would know that life here on earth is short. Our love for people would increase, our compassion of the lost would be stronger, my daily devotion to Christ would be deeper because I would know that I have but only a short amount of time to make an impact for Christ here on this earth. Our time is short but our impact on earth will last forever, Lord help me to live in light of the fact that you have given my this life that I may shine your light before men that I may not be concerned with the pettiness of my life but be more concerned with the truth that each of us will either spend eternity in heaven or in hell. How are you living in light of the fact that your time here on earth is short?
<3 Psalms 90 <3 – was a great chapter all about God’s wrath!!!!!!!!!! I know that today I will be thinking about God’s wrath when I am not putting others above myself or sinning in my anger. I am glad that I was able to read this chapter. It has opened my eyes even more to understanding God’s wrath.
3 You turn men back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men.”
This verse had to have stood out to me the most. It is so true that God has control over when we live or die. I think sometimes I forget that he is so powerful.

11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
This verse stood out to me also, Brooke! It’s a verse with such a contradictory message when compared to what some other Christian churches in our society are teaching. When most “Christians” think of God, they think of a kind old man up in heaven who lives to make us happy and give us warm fuzzies all day long! Here, however, we see that God’s anger and wrath is so vast that we would never be able to comprehend it. His amount of wrath is equal to the amount of fear we should have for Him. This means that fearing God is something that I can always improve on! I will never be able to fear God as much as I should while I am in this world, tainted by sin! If I am going to fear God, this means obeying Him no matter what. I want to be a woman who fears the Lord (Prov. 31:30)!
11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
I agree with Elise and Brooke. And Brooke I like your quote: “Fearing the Lord is the beginning of knowledge!!!”
This verse stood out to me also. Many people have different views on God, but really He used His wrath on Jesus and Jesus died. :[ But remember the end of the story, Jesus came back to life. He had not sinned at all but carried our sins to the cross. SO yes God does have a heart, because He sent His son. So I want to fear God out of reverence to HIM! :]
***FEAR THE LORD!***
17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.
God is always watching over us and i pray that God has favor on me. i also pray that He would use my hands to do His work. i want to be doing everything in Gods name and to do everything in the rightteous manner that He demands
10 “The length of our days is seventy years— or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.”
12 “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
How true this is. We may live, like Moses says here, to be 70 or 80, or maybe even older. But that–our age–is not certain. What is certain is the fact that we are all going to die someday (unless Jesus returns during our lifetime), and that could be at ANY time. Even if I do live to see old age, time passes quickly, and my life will be over before I know it. Although I don’t need to be afraid of death (because of the redemption available in Christ), I don’t want to waste the brief time on this earth that God has given me! Lord, please help me to live with this mindset and to live every day all about you.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
This is one of my favorite Psalms, and specifically this verse is one of my favorite verses in the Psalms.
Moses (who lived to be 120 and saw some of the most awesome things in world history) talks about how fleeting life is. But here in this verse he points out that God’s unfailing love is what truly satisfies. Even though life is short and hard, we can still be glad and rejoice if we are finding contentment and satisfaction in God’s love.
I know that this is a great reminder for me as we head into the busyness of the school year. Even though life will be busy and hard at times, each morning I can find satisfaction in God’s unfailing love!
Psyched for small groups to start tomorrow night!
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
None of my sins are secret from God. Even if I manage to hide my sins from other people, God always knows. Nothing is hidden from him! This is a scary thought. God knows all my thoughts and the extent of pride in my heart. I need to remember this when I am tempted to sin and I know no one else will ever know. God knows. God sees. All my secret sins are laid bare in the light of his presence.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
(How cool is it to read a Psalm by Moses?!)
The truth is that we have no idea how long we may live–some die young, tragically; some live to an old age, despite contrary lifestyles. Whatever the case may be, we need to keep the days of our lives (no, not the soap opera) in perspective, realizing that they are numbered and therefore vastly important. It’s almost like an unknown deadline that we should be working toward with our service & Godly lives. This perspective will give us a “heart of wisdom.” I need to make every day count!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
As so many of you have said, we need to be living our limited number of days for the Lord! This verse reminds me that not only should we be living for Him, but He should be where we find our meaning and satisfaction in life. The fact that God loves me and saved me should be all the reason I need to rejoice every day of my life. I want to live a life of praise to God and to reflect His love. I want my life to be characterized by joy and service to Him.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 1,”Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.”
I like this verse because it tells us that GOD was always with us and is always with and will always be with us. HE never fails or abandons us HE is always faithful and never breaks a promise.
CYA
This whole Psalm was beautifully written!! Moses puts emphasis on how insignificant time is here on earth compared to His time, and God’s everlasting presence!! It just made me think about my life and the “schedules” that I have. God is always there, but there are times that I just don’t think about it or am too focused on what is going on!! I need to use this time here wisely for the glory of God who is and is to come!!
God give us stranght to go around talking to people about you and your word. You lead us to victory help the non chritians to become Christians and fishers of men.
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
AMEN TO THAT!This is why i think we are so stupid to think that we are more powerful than God or that we are better than God or that we dont need God…well im sure some people dont if your a Christian…but its so funny to see how people think they are so powerful and so much better than God. People use Gods name in vain and people dont think that they need God at all….when the fact of the matter is…we would not be here on this earth if it werent for God!!!!!!!!!
i need to be sure that i am humble and that i know where God stands in my life.God needs to be my whole life and i need to make sure that He is always bigger than i am. Its quite stupid of me to ever doubt God or to ever think of Him as lower than He is or treat Him like a friend when He created me…He rules over me…He has the power to do what He wants with me and my life…
So this week and forever, i am going to let my actions glorify God and make sure that i am lifting His name up high!!!
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
I like this verse becuase it points out that we should be praising God in any situation. Not only that, but we should be praising him for every situation, even persecution and pain. Not only should we be praising him, we should be glorifying him in all situations also. This verse helps me remember that. It reminds me that i should look forward to persecution and welcome it, because it means I am serving the Lord. So here comes persecution! Praise the Lord!
Beth, just like you said, our life is but a moment. I love the reminder of verse 12
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
because it truly makes me realize that I am here for but a moment in the grand scheme of eternity. Why do I get so caught up in the daily mundane cares of the world when in reality I don’t even know how longer I am going to be here; it could be one day or 50 more years, only the Lord knows. I need to live each day as if it is my last, glorifying Him in All I do and spreading His name!
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
This verse is encouraging to me because when I read this I asked god to make me glad. Although i wasn’t sad or anything, asking God for help during a normal day turn into an awesome day. Looking at what God has done and what He does just is awesome to go along with asking Him for joy.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
This is what I have been praying for for a while now and I will continue to pray until God answers my prayer. It really troubles me when I am on fire for Christ one night and the next morning, that fire has disappeared and it is just another boring day at school. I pray that God would spark up the flame inside of me and that I would live everyday satisfied and full of his joy, praising the Lord wherever I am. This is how I want to live, praising God because of the joy and love he has shown me!
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
I am going to be in front of God one day, and he knows my sin. I can’t hide any of them, the sins I do without anyone watching I’m not getting away with. It’s before him, and I’m gonna be exposed all of the sins I committed, everyone of them! This is not good because of my sin is a lot! But Christ has saved me from God’s wrath and judgment!
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Life ending isn’t something I give that much thought to, but it’s going to happen and what 70-80 years is going to pass by before we know it, if we don’t die sooner. And just like life, parts of my life like high school will be over before I know it and they will be gone forever. So that means that every moment I waste at school by focusing on other stuff and not spreading the Gospel is a moment gone forever and all those moments are going to be gone quite soon. Lord please help me to wisely use the precious time you have given me, because it will soon be gone. Lord, please especially help me to impact my high school for your glory so that these years might be used for Revival rather than letting this episode in my life be a waste.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
I love this verse cause it really shows that are day down on Earth are numbered. That we should live those days for God for he is the one who gave us life. We get so caught up in life and sometimes we forget that it will end, people are always telling “oh how time flys” and it does and not just me but all of us need to remeber to be living that time for the Lord not for men.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom
I need to act like everyday is my last day and share the good news like fire and be a light to those who do not know the Lord. Our days here our numbered and I need to live everyday for God
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
I really really like this verse alot. I remember the first time I read it, I just glanced over it and thought it was a great verse but now reading it again makes me feel really enlightened. I want to be able to number my days and be like hey I don’t have much time here on earth and I need to make the most out of my time glorifying God. I can’t just sit around and say I’m young and I have a lot of time then go on facebook or take naps or sit around watching tv. I can’t just make excuses to go to things and act like I will always have enough time. No one knows when God is coming back. Maranatha! Like Bobby said, I should live every day as if Jesus is returning and give all of myself fully to the work of Christ! I shouldn’t waste any precious time at all and use it productively for His kingdom. The more time I think I have, the more time I spend my time and not use it. I want to be able to number my days and realize that life is so fleeting and short and because of this, I need to devote myself fully to the Christ and His kingdom as I can during this short period of time on earth until I’m home in heaven. :))))
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
This is going to be my prayer! I need to start off my day with my devotions and prayer time instead of doing it later on because I need the strength and wisdom from God to start my day off right in the Word and to be armed to evangelize! I love the second part of the verse also, I want to sing for joy and be glad because God is really all I need and nothing else to be happy all of my days. I want to be able to fear and praise and glorify God .
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
We never know how long we will last here on this earth. The most important thing to remember is that we have an eternal home to look forward to and tell others about. We need to treat each day as our last and tell as many people about the kingdom of God and his returning Son. We are only visitors here on this earth. Lets complete the task our Father set for us to do; Go and make desciples of all nations!!!!
MARANATHA
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
We can hide our sin so well that we fool others, and in time we might even begin to deceive ourselves, but God is never fooled. He knows every sin that we have ever committed. And He will not let them go unpunished. For those of us who have been covered with the blood of Christ, the ultimate payment for sins is on Jesus and not us. But that does not mean that our sin is not a big deal to God, or that He will not punish us for it. My fear of God’s wrath and my desire to live for Christ should instead lead me to pray David’s prayer in Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Great Scripture!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
It is so true at least in my life that I find there is no greater satisfaction than being on the Lords team, and worshiping Him with everything I’ve got! He really makes the world go round. So that I can be glad all of my days on the earth that he let me have. So that I can be overwhelmed in Heaven by His great glory!
Praise God!
4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
this verse is so amazing because it shows how transcendent and set apart our God is. He doesnt have time; He exists out of time. that is certainly something truly awesome and something that we cannot comprehend. Peter talks about this in 2 Peter 3:8. but Peter uses it in the context of the day of the Lord and the end of the world. what is important about this verse is not only our God’s power and transcendence, but also how He is coming soon, at any time, for He can choose whenever He wants. and though it has been about 2000 years since He said He would return, it is a long time ago to us, but not for Him since He lives out of time. so knowing that He can return at anytime, lets have “maranatha mindsets” all the time and living lives of no compromise! i know i need to be living life with a sense of expectancy and urgency, and bolding witnessing, because the Lord is coming back soon. MARANATHA!!!
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
there are no sins that you can hide from God! No sin or wrongdoing is hidden from His eye for God is all knowing and all seeing. Omnicient and omnipresent. He knows everything that we try to hide from Him and everytime we try to hide a sin from Him it’s just piling one sin on top of another! I hope that we all can confess our sins to Him
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children.
Let us praise the Lord for all He has givin us! He has given us so much!! He is an ALMIGHTY and POWERFUL and LOVING God!! Let us pass on His splendor to the gererations to come! and to evangelize to our siblings and sons and daughters all of our lives
hi.
11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you. 12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom—I think a lot of Christians take advantage of God’s love and think that He loves us no matter what and will jsut forgive us. All of that is true but He does have a can of wrath that is going to be poured out on all of those who did not listen to Him. And I really need to remember that and that I need to correct myself on whatever I am falling short of. I need to strive to be more perfect everyday and not just use God’s love as an excuse. I also need to know that God can come back anytime and whenever he comes back I need to be doing something that is glorifying to Him!
stoked for small groups!! :D
please pray for me i have been really sick lately! thank you(:
Hey life is short, and for some reason that’s not a bad thing! Now a person, if they are lucky (actually luck doesn’t exist—I mean if God wills), they can live to maybe 80 or 90 years old and then they’re pushing up daisies. This life is shorter than we think.
I want to be bold for Christ, serving him now while I still have a chance. I can’t love people by sharing the Gospel with them or help them with their problems if I’m dead. In heaven their are no problems! Those who think we should wait for the future to live boldly for Christ, I think they are just afraid. Now is the time that I want my friends to be saved, and I agree with Pastor Bobby and Pastor Ben: this could be the best year yet. I’m praying for my water polo team; that they will be saved. And I am praying for Revival at SCHS…it will happen. All glory and honor and praise go to God in heaven!
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
And yet God still loves us. In fact, despite all that man did to anger God and all that man continues to do, He sent us His Son out of love and grace.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Just like Moses, I’m certainly rejoicing the fact that God chose me.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
I know that sometimes I am not the most pleasing person in the morning. When I read these two verses I realized that my days are numbered. I don’t know when my day will come. Which means I should be living each day as my last. Because I know if I saw God today I would be a totally different person. Which is not good for me. I would look like the dirty water pastor Mike told us at revival. I want to be the clear water that God holds up and is satisfyed.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
This is definetely something I need to work on doing. Some of this chapter talks about how our lives are short and we need to do stuff with our life but at the same time keep our eyes fixed on eternity. My goal after reading this verse is to make the most of this life by glorifying God in how I live. I think of the line from Hosanna- “Everything I am for your kingdom’s cause…” This means that we always need to be evangelizing, because that is making the most of every opportunity here on earth and at the same time you are focusing on eternity and who will be there! I need to have that balance of focusing on eternity but also making an impact for God here on earth, and I can do that by evangelizing!
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
i need to number my days and think of each as my last. i often think to myself that i will just do something tomorrow or next week but what i seem to forget is there may be no tommorow. i need to relize this more and more and honestly live each day as my last.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moses starts out this psalms by saying: Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
Can we be like Moses? Can we make the Lord our dwelling place when times are getting hard? When trials and temptations pouring down on us? Can we come to the Lord anytime and anywhere and dwell in him?
Look at Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” These are the words of Jesus. We should feel free to come to Jesus when the world is wearing us down, and making us carry burdens, for Jesus will give us rest. Moses knows that God is is dwelling place, so he is coming down before Him in times of trouble to get rest.
Many may ask, what are these times of trouble? Skip down to verse 3 and read to verse 11. Moses is telling the Lord that all the Israelites days are passed under God’s wrath(vs 9). And he just goes on and on about how powerful and fearing God’s wrath could be. And He is powerful, so we should fear him with all our hearts!
Moses then goes on with his prayer, saying: Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. He is saying that life is short, help us to make the best of our days, so that we can grow wiser. And if the Israelites grow wiser, they will most likely obey and fear the Lord to avoid the power of God’s wrath! How great is that! And it gets better! In the book of 1 John 5:13-14 it says: This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. This is amazing, if we ask anything that is God’s will, he will give it to you! Imagine if you asked for God’s wisdom, imagine how wise you would get! Another good verse about this is James 1:5-8. But turn back to Psalms, he doesn’t only ask for wisdom, but for God’s unfailing love to be on them. God’s love is greater than all other for God is love. Therefore, we should be like Moses, praying for Godly character like love and wisdom everyday. Imagine how much more we would live our lives as Jesus did if we did that!
To recap:
Point 1: Make God your dwelling place
Point 2: Fear the Lord’s wrath and power
Point 3: Pray to God for His wisdom and unfailing love
4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
Ahhh! I can’t wait to be in the presence of my Lord! How awesome that a thousand years of being in His sight won’t be even close to long enough “like a day that has just gone by.” It sounds kinda like the feeling when I was a kid and couldn’t wait for christmas… I would do a little countdown and get all excited to be with family and open presents, but that night when all the excitement was over and it was time to go to sleep i would be so sad and wish I could do it all over again… But, the amazing part is, our time with the Lord is for eternity!!! Not that Christmas day is anywhere near as exciting as when we will get to see our Maker face to face… MARANATHA!!!
4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
This is so cool that God is out side time because that shows me that God knows what is best for me even though I might think my way is better he can see the future. I love reading verses that show me how great God is. Praise God because he deserves it.
11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. (SLAVES)
God’s wrath is so unmeasurable, its just crazy. :) We fear the Lord and put our faith in HIm, thats awesome. I know I fear the Lord, but I also know that Jesus keeps me safe so I am courageously afraid. :) and the last verse I justed wanted to change it.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Great comment Mike! Moses is talking about how fleeting life is in this Psalm, and I like this verse because I don’t want to waste the time the Lord has given me here on earth; I want to use it to His glory and gain a heart of wisdom like the verse says. I want to use my time wisely to grow in the Lord and tell others about the Gospel!
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
This is such a great verse for all christians. It is so easy to look at non Christians and wonder why they can get away with so many things. I know any time I had done something wrong that I would always get caught, no matter how small it was. Our sins are not hidden from the Lord. He loves us and therefore our sins will not go unseen. We will be caught and hopefully that brings about accountability, because we cannot do it on our own. I am so grateful to be at a church that holds me accountable everyday.
This psalm offers me a reminder of how I should talk to God. The psalmist acknowledges and praises every important aspect of God and then some. He glorifies God for His omnipotence, His omnicience, His eternal nature, His righteous anger, and so forth. The psalmist humbles himself and all of mankind before the Lord. I need to remember who it is I’m talking to whenever I pray to God; which means I need to always take prayer seriously and give it the time, foucs, and respect it’s due. It’s only after the psalmist pays appropriate tribute to God’s awesome power and might that he asks Him for any favor. I should take note and remember to give God the same appropriate praise before launching into requests for my family, friends, church, etc. If I added up all of the praise I’ve given God in my entire life it still wouldn’t approach what He deserves. All glory, honor, power is His.
17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.
Wow, what dependence Moses shows on God. “Establish the work of our hands” is expressing Moses’ awareness that he needs God working through his hands to get things done. I need to have this same attitude. I pray that God would work through me as I look to him, not myself.
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Wow! How awesome is this verse? God has no beginning or end. He is our Lord almighty and verse 2 reminds me that before even time began, my life was in his hands. I have nothing to worry about. I pray that I trust in God’s faithfulness every single day. It’s so important to have that quiet time set aside for the Lord, where we come before him and learn from his word, and praise his name! God has us here on earth for a reason, and I pray that I am an effective servant that continues to walk by faith, sharing the good news with everyone!
Mmm…I am feeling the momentum here on Scripture of the Day! Now that we are getting into small groups let’s get this place going off!!!!
I am with Mr. Cox…how legit is it to read a Psalm by Moses! He is definitely contrasting that God is everlasting in heaven with how fleeting our life is here on earth. This means we should be living in the hope of heaven and not trying to live it up in sin here and now. We are going to talk about hoping in heaven next weekend from 1 Peter and I am already looking forward to it!
13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants.
In the ESV this verse is translated “Return, O Lord!” Which of course made me think MARANATHA! Moses is calling out for God to come back to his people even though the situation seems so bad. As we go through difficult times in this life we can look forward to being in God’s presence. We can know he is working things out for our good and that we will see his glory. When it feels like we are in the darkness of night we can have confidence that satisfaction will come with the morning…
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
One thing I like to do to get my mornings off to a good start is set my calendar to say Maranatha at the time I have to wake up. This immediately reminds me that I want to live that day like I might meet the Lord Jesus at any moment…this helps me make the most of my time rather than sleeping in or have a bad attitude the rest of the day…
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Even though our lives right now may seem like a big deal, they really are not compared to what awaits us. One of my teachers said today: “Life is good! And then we die”… Only if he knew it will only get better for those who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ!
God is everlasting and indescribable. He knows everything about every single person because he created each and every one of us. Therefore, How could evolution be proved true? Evolution is just a theory and this year, as i am in biology, i am going to stand up for my beliefs if the topic comes up of evolution. It states in the bible that the Lord created everyone and that he knows us better than anyone.
Genesis 1: 27
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
This verse is a contradiction to evolution.
4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
This verse is so cool! For a thousand years in Gods sight is like a day that has just passed by! God already knows everything about me–my past, my secrets, my future! We cannot hide from the Lord! It is awesome to know that God knows all that about me so when i don’t know what to do, i can just come to God because he knows what is best for me and he knows my future. God is extraordinary!
10 The length of our days is seventy years— or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
Our time on earth is shorttt. None of us has any idea when we’ll take our last breath, it could be a minute from now, or eighty years from now. Personally, I’m hoping that Jesus comes back RIGHT NOW, but if that doesn’t happen, I’m making it my goal to live each day with the expectation that it will be my last!
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
I always find it so hard to understand even a bit of God. It is so unfathomable, yet truly amazing. God has been forever and will forever be. He has no beginning and no end, He is the creator of this extravagant universe and He deserves everlasting praise. I can’t wait till I see him face to face! That will be the most epic day ever! God is always and should always be above everything else in this world, especially myself and my worldly wants. He is ever-present, all-knowing, holy, loving, everlasting and so much more.
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
We at times think that when we are alone or when we are not with our Christians friends we are clear and can do whatever we want to without being confronted or looked down onto! But this is rather the opposite. When we are alone in a room with no one else there is always one person watching us and over us! God is always there seeing exactly what we are doing. We may think that we are getting away with sin when none of our friends know about it but the one person that it really matters towards knows exactly what we have done! So let us be cautious and fearful of what we are doing at all times for we know that even when we are alone God is there watching us and seeing what we are doing! 116
Dude. Yes, Ryan! It is CRAZY that we are reading, thousands of years later, random thoughts by “Mose”. Pretty gnarly!!!
Verse 12 is sweet…Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Matthew Henry says this about it: “Instead of wasting our precious, fleeting days in pursuing fancies, which leave the possessors for ever poor, let us seek the forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance in heaven. Let us pray that the work of the Holy Spirit may appear in converting our hearts, and that the beauty of holiness may be seen in our conduct.”
“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”
Each morning I need to be excited to do the Lord’s will. I need to be praying for open doors and going through the open doors when God graciously provides them for me. Lord give me an even greater joy for you and the salvation you have given me!
Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You turn men back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men.”
4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
wow….a humbling chapter with some humbling verses…just to think about what these verses are saying is hard to truly wrap your mind around. This reminds us that we cannot fully grasp God! He is so forign! yet he is also near…God is beyond time, beyond even our understanding of time….wow if that isn’t something to praise God for then I don’t know what is….reminds me of the song everlasting God….
V.8
Love this psalm!
there are no secrets with God, no one can hideanything from Him. He knows what were thinking, and He knows everything we do all the time.
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
As I was reading this verse I was thinking about how truly amazing God’s mercy is! While no one else knows about many of the sins of my life, I cannot hide any of these from the Lord. He knew how sinful I was and he still offered my love and forgiveness! I need to remember that God always sees my sin and that nothing can be hidden from his view!
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
From everlasting to everlasting… those are powerful words. Praise our God who created our world. Be praying for SVCS that there would be a revival on our so called Christian campus. Also be praying that I would have to boldness to stand up for what I know is right in God’s eyes.
Wow. How great is our God?? How powerful is he. This psalm really described a glimps of the mighty of our God. It really puts us in line, a little reality check. To know that i am at the whim of a whisper if the Lord Almighty! This is really a humbling psalm. I am so thankful that our God is so mighty and just, never changing, and all powerful! I am so glad that he has everything in the palm of HIS hand, and that i don’t have to worry about it.
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
This Psalm talks about our eternal God and finite people, what a contrast! We are to number our days and live ready to see the Lord at any moment. This verse definitely fits into that because all sin is plain and clear to God, so I want to keep short accounts with him by always confessing my sin to him and receiving his forgiveness. I am praying that I would fear God and be serious about the reality of seeing him at any moment…and that these two things would motivate me always to be joyfully obedient to him.
Psalm 90
7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
As mere human beings we are incapable of comprehending the anger of God. The only real way to get even a feel for his wrath is thru the Old Testament. It is so important to know the God you are serving out of fear and reverence. In verse seven we read that we are consumed by God’s anger and terrified by his justified anger. Our sinful lives are in full view of God even the sins that we think are hidden are under the light of an omniscient God. If we truly understand that we are trampling the cross of Christ with every sinful act. It should move us away from our sin and closer to a holy reverence for God. God’s wrath should be feared for the consequence is death.
Heb 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Everlasting to everlasting forever and ever. These are not words played with very often. With no begginning and no end, it is difficult for us as humans to wrap our minds around that truth.
