Rejoicing in Heaven
19:1 After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 Once more they cried out,
“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And from the throne came a voice saying,
“Praise our God,
all you his servants,
you who fear him,
small and great.”
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
8 it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” 10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The Rider on a White Horse
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.” 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh. (ESV)

9 Then the angel said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
We are blessed, indeed! Sometimes, when reading about the people in this book whose hearts are set against God, we can forget that we too were once in that position. Only by the great grace and mercy of God and the blood of Jesus Christ were we saved from our sins and have access to God. Let this be a daily reminder to us that we were bought at a price and our lives are no longer our own; we need to live for Christ our Redeemer in everything we do.
Verses 11-16 are an AMAZING picture of Jesus in His glory. In a world where evil seems to be winning daily, we can take confidence in the fact that the God we serve will one day soon set things straight. After reading this passage, we should want to go out and be even more bold for Christ, since He is all-powerful – and worthy of our fear.
15Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.
Jesus here is not humble man who never did anything wrong anymore. He is in all His glory, ready to destroy anyone and everything that is sinful in this world. He has a sword coming out of His mouth (that’s scary) to destroy the nations. That’s gopt to be one big sword. He will rule with an iron scepter. The way John says “with an iron scepter” immediately makes me think of a powerful ruler, and of course Christ is, so that means He will be a million times more powerful than anyone on the earth. Then John goes to say “He treads the winepress of God’s wrath. A winepress is a huge rock that crshes grapes to get all the juce from them. It’s not just some wimpy squeze, it chokes all of the juice out. That’s what God’s wrath is like. It crushes all of His blessing out of you and leaves squashed. That is one intense picture of Jesus in His glory down on earth.
10.) At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
This verse is a great example of what we should be doing on a daily basis, not only giving glory to God, but also redirecting it from ourselves to Him. We are all servants of God and He is the only one worthy of the praise and glory.
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
Faithful and True..yes that is what He is! He has so many names throughout the Bible and everyone of them he is deserving of. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, mighty counselor, healer, Father, redeemer, and so many more throughout the Bible! Let us praise him and adore His name because he will be faithful to us and bring judgemnet on those who did not believe!
Ahhh….yes! The return of Jesus to judge all of his enemies! What a triumphant picture of our Lord coming on a white horse! And to think that we will be in the armies of heaven following him! Jesus is the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords!” Let us keep in mind that we have a mighty King who is coming to reign! Let’s look forward to him coming soon! Maranatha!
10.) At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
I agree with Brett. This verse really stuck out to me. This is how our lives should be, we should never be taking the credit or the glory that God deserves. All the praise and worship belongs to Him. Everthing that we do for Him we do in His name, and when people praise us for anything that we do, our immediate response is to redirect that praise to God!
But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
God is a loving God but also punishes those who are not his followers. After reading this, i was reminded how we as christians need to fear the Lord because in the end everyone will be judged.
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
God is just! Many people do not want to believe that a loving God would punish people in the way described in Revelation. The truth is that justice and wrath go together. God can not ignore sin and the people in Revelation are simply being punished for their own transgressions and ultimately rejecting God. The truth of Scripture is that God is just and that wrath is an expression of His justice against non-Christians.
This is a glimpse into heaven! Multitudes singing hallelujah, praise God! And we are reminded to do the same,
5Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!”
This is encouraging, before Christ this would be being said only to the Jews. But now God has disseminated His salvation throughout the globe! First to the Jew then to the gentiles…now all can praise our God both small and great! I like how it says, “you who fear him…” that is who should be praising our Lord. I like how solomon concludes the entire book of Ecclesiastes,
13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13
After everything has been said he sums it up with this “Fear God and keep his commandments”, this is what a Godly man is going to look like. A person who fears God and who takes what He says seriously and obeys it!
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.
WOW!! The sight of the this would be so gerat it would seem unbearable to even look at God when He is coming down out of Heaven to destroy all evil and sin in this world. I cant even imagine the picture that this verse describes that God will be. It is so amazing to know that one day He will come back and wipe out all evil and we will finally be resurrected with Him in the New Jerusalem.
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
Whoa! Just imagine this, heaven standing open, with God on a white horse ready to come down. This is the Marantha, the coming of the Lord. He is going to destroy all the earth and is going to destroy all those people who reject Him and persecute us, and once His wrath is finished then there will be the beginning of the New Jerusalem, a perfect place without sin and we will be with the Lord forever.
I agree with you Beth that many people today think that God will not punish them and can do whatever they want because God will forgive them, and I talked to a lot of people who I play sports with and school, as I talk more and more to them about the Lord, then I talk to them about God’s wrath and they tell me that same thing that you just talked about them, and I point out to them that they don’t realize that God is just and they don’t realize when we sin we are rejecting God.
16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
17And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God
This day is going to be amazzing! for those who seek God will see him!!!!!! heaven, and angels, wow! it’s a totall dream come true, the day of our lives we’ve all been waiting for. And going to the new Jerusalem with no worries, or sadness for God will surely wipe all our tears away.
“Come, Gather together for the great supper of God.”
I though eating dinner at the table with my family was cool but i can’t even describe how being at the same table as God would be!
You talk about a story that starts out bad but has a happy ending… Although Jesus is often referred to as the “Prince of peace” He will judge those based on their earthly deeds. Verse 21 is super as it reminds me of the Bible verse that says that Christ will vomit them out of his mouth. I know it sounds a bit mad but this whole chapter was very uplifting to me, as it shows that ultimately God will reign supreme.
Usually when people think of Jesus they think of a guy dressed in white robes who walked in weird looking sandals and had long brown hair that went down to his shoulders (like the movie). In this chapter and all over Revelations Jesus is powerful with eyes of blazing fire and a long double edged sword coming out of his mouth. He is Lord who will use his sword to strike down nations and rule them with an iron fist. Good thing we worship Jesus who has all power.
7Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.
8Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)
I was just thinking that its kinda weird to be reading revelation and then all of a sudden think, hey these things are really going to happen, its not just some story. Its hard to picture because we have never seen anything like it, but soon and very soon, amazing events will happen where fire will fall from heaven and Jesus will appear in His glory and strike down the nations. And then we are going to be brought into His presence forever. Its weird to think beyond our everyday life, but this is coming, and coming soon. And like it says in these verses, we need to be making ourself ready for Him by making sure we are living pure and blameless lives, as well as evangelizing to others till our last breath while they still have time. I know for myself at least that I want to be bringing God glory rather than disowning Him when He comes back to strike down the nations.
5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!”
I really like this verse!! It says: ALL HIS SERVANTS & ALL WHO FEAR HIM, both small and great… Praise our God! Kinda like what Dillon said… We should be so grateful for what not only the Jews received, but we too received (Gentiles). All of God’s servants should be dedicating their lives to giving the praise and glory to God always :)
12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.
Wow!!! This is an amazing chapter. The war is about to begin and you get a full desciption of what Jesus looks like. He isn’t a man on the cross being tortured for our sins. He is a prince. He is gorgeous and terrifying.
16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
What a great chapter! Jesus on the horse riding to defeat the enemy! What a wonderful day that will be!! God deserves all the glroy! Just like Bre was saying on verse 10, like the angel, we shouldn’t take credit for anything we do, but turn the glory and honor towards God for He is the one working in us and though us and holds all things together. He alone deserves all our glory, honor, and praise.
10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Like a few said before me… The angel in this verse compares himself with him and says that he is also a servant. The Angel immidiatly pointed to God. We need to act like this also!…..It is easy to take in the glory…having someone praise you….but we need to point to God…..He deserves the credit!!!
For example:
You have a spiritual gift and you use it for the purposes of the church…….someone reconizes your gift and starts telling you how great you are at doing what you do…………………………………In this situation we need to be able to back up and say, “God deserves the glory…he is the one who gave me the gift to start with.”
It is SO EASY to take all the credit…but we need to be able to GIVE GOD THE GLORY HE DESERVES!!!!!!!!!!!
12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.
I find this verse sooo amazing! He has many crowns, not just one but many and he has a name that no one knows? that makes me soooo curious!!!
ahh i was him to comeeeeeeee
Maranathaaaa
5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!”
6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
This is so exciting! There are going to be so many people who are praising God that we are going to sound like the roar of rushing waters. Does it get any better than that? Being surrounded by other believers praising God? That truly is heaven for me!! And I like how the voice commands us to praise God. He has created us for His benefit, and our lives should constantly be a source of praise and worship to God. Our whole life is based around the fact that we are called to praise God, and I love how this passage is a wonderful reminder of what we need to be doing now and how we can look forward to continued worship forever in heaven. HALLELUJAH!!!!!
1After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
MMMM Amen!!! The only way to salvation is through the Lord Jesus!!!! That is one thing we need to make clear to our friends at school this year!!!!!
In/\’s chapter….God comes back to judge. The sword coming out of the mouth is so powerful. It is good to know that we serve a God that is more powerful than anything we can emagine.
Praise God. He is all powerful and will conquer evil. I would not want to be against our God.12 His eyes eyes are like blazing fire… 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the word Is the word of God. 14 the armies of heaven are following him… 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with to strike down the nations… He treads the wineperess of the fury of the wrath of God. When you are being tempted to sin, picture that guy mad at you.
12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.
Wow, the desciption of God is so amazing and intense, I love it!
5Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!”
This verse shows that God is telling all of His servants, His disciples, the ones that fear Him, anyone small or great, and any Christian out there needs to give praise, glory and honor, to our God. We need to be glorifying God every day of our lives and worshipping him and give Him praise. This reminds me that during worship, if you don’t sing whole heartedly and don’t have any joy in your heart, then there is no point in even worshipping. Give all glory, honor, and power to Jesus Christ!
