Psalm 84

My Soul Longs for the Courts of the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.

84:1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
to the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
ever singing your praise! Selah

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
As they go through the Valley of Baca
they make it a place of springs;
the early rain also covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength;
each one appears before God in Zion.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
Behold our shield, O God;
look on the face of your anointed!

10 For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
blessed is the one who trusts in you! (ESV)

  1. Brooke Miller says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

This is the right attitude! God is the only one who satisfies and the only one where salvation comes from! ” My soul yearns, and faints, for the courts of the LORD.” As verse 10 mentions, I would much rather be with God in his courts for one day, then dwell in the house of the wicked, and be tempted by earthly desires forever! God is so amazing in every way and so perfect! Its so motivating for me that if I stand strong, God will not let me go into the fire! Because of what he did on the cross, I want to please and serve him! “My heart and flesh cry out for the living God.” Even in hard trials, I run to the Lord and totally put my trust and reliance on him. He is the only one that truly matters and where you can find complete satisfaction in! Nowhere else is there complete satisfaction!!!!! Praise the Lord for everything, he is awesome!

  2. Zach V. says:

8 Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Sela

God hears every prayer, but He only answers those that are within His will. For example, if I ask God for a pony and He doesn’t want me to have a pony, I won’t get one. Now if I ask God to help me when I witness, he will because in the Bible He wants us to tell others about Him. This verse makes me want to think about what I pray, of it’s in God’s will or not. Also this verse encourages me to pray too.

  3. Dave Hosford praying for revival before He comes says:

Ps 84:10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Now that’s a house that NEVER goes down in value! It’s the place I want to be: can’t wait till Jesus brings that neighborhood down here! Don’t you just want to invite everyone to come on over? Please come soon!

  4. Trembling with fear from the almighty God, B says:

haha I like that comment Mr. Hosford! So true. Look at how amazing Heaven is compared to this Earth!!!! The author totally describes how much better it would be to be in the presence of God then to be stuck here on Earth…and he’s right!!! Better is One Day is obviously from this beautiful Psalm!!! This Psalm brings me hope of the future that awaits for me. I’d much rather be in the presence of God at this very moment, or any moment, than to be here…but I shall wait patiently!!!! Come Lord Come!!! MARANATHA!!! I will praise You forever here on Earth until you come…haha and praise you in Heaven!! :D

  5. Steffen Eriksen says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

The Sons of Korah aren’t focused on their life here on earth, but instead, are looking to heaven. They write that 1 day in the courts of God is better than 1,000 days anywhere else. They would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked. Sadly, this isn’t the desire most people have. Even some who claim to have this desire for God are but hypocrites, for they make the claim but don’t live like it. Yet this is so true! Nothing is better than God; He alone can satisfy and bring true joy. I need to have this attitude towards God all the time. I need to be focused on thinking God is better than anything else because He is. So many things of this world will try to compete to win the attention of people, but those who seek after the things of this world are stupid fools! While the things here will never last, God will last for forever, He alone can satisfy and He alone can save! I need to have a MARANATHA mindset as I wait for the coming of Christ, never forgetting that I am an alien here as I wait for my true home!

  6. Joha Karlsson says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh cry out for the living God.
I like what C.S. Lewis has to say about this verse in Reflections on the Psalms, p. 51.
” The appetite for God has all the cheerful spontaneity of a natural, even a physical, desire.
Meaning our love of God should produce strong desire within us, to know him more., That desire should be least equal to the desire we feel inside around dinner time, especially if we skipped lunch. I am talking about the desire in our stomach that isn’t satisfied until food has quenched that desire. Do I truly desire to know the living God that my heart and flesh cry out for him? Lord please give me that desire. Help me love you according to your will. l

  7. James Purington says:

11 no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Jesus will provide good things in our lives if we are walking in Him. If I stand firm and walk in His path, then things will be provided for me and He will help me succeed in everything I do, if I keep Him first. We all struggle with that sometimes.

  8. Cameron says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

the Lord is to be what satisfies us, and He needs to be our only portion, and our only passion. this isnt to say that we should not want anything else at all, but it means that the Lord needs to be so high up that in comparison, it is as if we hate all other things. Jesus applies this principle to in Matthew 10:34-37. everyday we need to cry out to the living God who needs to be what satisfies, and acknowledge that without Him we are nothing and useless. this verse shows us the dependency that we need to have for God, as well as the passion and desire for God that is pleasing to Him. lets be praying for revival at our HS campuses!!!

  9. Max says:

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

God is like the sun, and like a shield. The sun is vital to life, without it nothing could survive and nothing would grow. And a sheild protects and covers you from anything that’s going against you. God is like both of these. Without Him, nothing would survive. And He protects us from all the things that are out to get us. And He gives us things! Even though we don’t deserve it, He won’t withold any good thing if we are living for Him. God is amazing and awesome!

  10. Nicholas Bonetto says:

5 “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their heart on a pilgrimage.”

As pastor Bobby was saying last night at True North United, we are blessed to be in God’s hand. I should very fearful if I’m not because all I have to look foward to when I die is Hell. It is not easy to stay in God’s hands till death, pastor Bobby reffered to the Christian life as a fight, the verse reffers to it as a pilgrimage. We have to battle to keep serving God. I need to know that every worldly tempation is a lie and I need to focus my eyes on God an my goal: to keep fighting till I die.

  11. Beth Lauder says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

This summer I read the book, “Heaven,” by Randy Alcorn. It is an amazing book that paints a Biblical picture of heaven. When I discovered that heaven is a real place where we will have real bodies and do real, enjoyable work, fellowshipping with other believers and praising God, I became more excited than ever to go to heaven. I love verse 10 of Psalm 84 because the psalmist is keenly aware that heaven is far superior to earth. He knows that living with the wicked for a short time and even enjoying the sinful pleasures of this life pales in comparison to what heaven has in store. My prayer today is that I will stay standing in my faith and eagerly await the day of Christ’s return so that I can reign with Him forever in the New Jerusalem. Maranatha!

  12. Jacob Antoun 2010 says:

One of my favorite parts of reading thru the Psalms is seeing how many of them are the source for worship songs that we sing today!

12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

This is verse is so simple yet so profound. The Psalmist spends the previous 11 verses talking about the courts of the Lord, the house of the Lord, and how those who rely on the Lord will find strength and honor. Then this last verse, blessed is the man who trusts in you. As we stand for Christ as orange county highschoolers, let us never forget that our strength is found in the Lord. Only thru Him, will we be able to stand for eternity!

Mmmmm . . . it felt good to sleep in. =)

    Any who . . .

    Goodmorning TRUE NORTH . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 84 . . .

“2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”

    Jesus,
I pray that I would totally apply my life to this verse. I need to cry out to YOU! When I’m in a “dry and weary land, where there is no water; my soul longs for you, my body thirsts for you.” That verse and the verse above are total “cry out” verses.

“10.Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

WOW! He’s saying that instead of living here on sinful earth with all the wicked, that he’d rather be in the house of God. Doesn’t matter what he’s doing, he could even be a doorkeeper for all he cares. He justs wanted to be with his Heavenly Father. =) Wouldn’t blame Him. That’s how I need to be also. I need to be wanting to be in the house of God and not just, God thanks for my house. I really love it and ya. No! I should be willing to go HOME and live in the House of God. Earth isn’t my real nor final home.

  14. 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

I LONG desparately for my home (heaven), I so want to be with the King. What I have noticed however is that there are times in my life in which I want my “plans” to be fulfilled before I go home, I for some reason get sidetracked thinking that my moment of temporal pleasure here is better than the courts of the King; how foolish! I want this to always be my attitude, I want to STAY STANDING as I yearn for my home and for my God daily!

  15. Alicia Karlsson says:

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Selah

Back in the OT men and women had to go to the temple or tabernacle to worship God. The temple was Gods house and his presence was in the holy of holies. The closer you were to the holy of holies the closer you were to HIs presence. When Christ came he tore the curtain that separated us from the presence of God and left his spirit to dwell in us. Therefore, we are blessed because his spirit reside in us. But the most amazing thing is that some day God JEHOVAH The all existent one will dwell among men in the New Jerusalem, and we will be praising him forever and ever.
Praise to the LORD who sent his son to this earth to die for our sins Rise again to defeat sin and death that we may be called children of God and one day we will dwell in the presence of the LORD and praise him forever and ever.

  16. Melissa Cox says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

It’s so important to remember that Heaven will be better than anything we can imagine down here. It’s so easy to say, “I want to go to heaven, but I want to get married and have a family first,” or, “I just want to have a career and my own house first,” etc. I want to remember that no matter what plan of my own I’m looking forward to–Heaven is SO much better. Like Beth, I have also been reading HEAVEN by Rancy Alcorn, and I’m so excited to go be with the Lord some day. I would recommend that book to everyone! Maranatha!

  17. Ben Blakey says:

5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.

This verse really stood out to me this morning, and I love that phrase “set their hearts on pilgrimage.” While here it may be talking about a literal pilgrimage that people would make to the temple, it casts a cool picture for me, as well. My heart needs to be set on a pilgrimage as well, where my whole life is basically a journey towards the Lord–always seeking to know him more, to love him more, to serve him more–until I finally arrive to be with him forever in glory!

  18. Pastor Bobby says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

PASSION! That’s what this verse is all about!

Can I really say today that my heart and flesh are crying out for God?

That is an awesome picture of the relationship we can have with him!

I am praying that I will seek God like this today and that all of us at True North won’t treat reading the Bible or praying like a chore…but an awesome way to communicate with the God we are crying out for!

See everyone at True North this weekend for our next Don’t Stop Standing sermon:

    Standing Out from the World

  19. Dan Lauder says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

As a Christian our home is in heaven, not here on earth. It is important for me to keep this ever before my mind. Right now, I work, struggle, get disappointed, get persecuted, get tired, etc. In heaven my soul will find its home and be at rest. When I focus on now, I can be brought down. When I focus on heaven, I am lifted up.

  20. Shelby says:

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Wow our God is so powerful! We should all have a healthy fear of the Lord because like it says in verse 11 he grants and gives favor and honor. I want my life to reflect him so I can be a good example to others. How encouraging to here that the Lord keeps no good thing from those who are walking a holy and blameless life. Lord I want all of my trust to be in you! Even when things go wrong or people fail me I want to trust in you and not let my fear get in the way.

  21. Angela says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

This is the right attitude to have for God!!! God is all powerful and amzing we should all yearn for him as it says above. We should cry out as it says and pray to and want to be with him in the end.

Like last nite we do not want to be those dice in his hands and be dropped!!!! Thanks for the amazing message Bobby!!!!!

  22. Eric Walker says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

This is a legit song. I love this song and its lyrics are soo true. I would rather be in God’s courts for one day that thousands elsewhere. The day that I get to see my Lord and Savior will for sure, no question about it, be the best day of my life. I can’t wait until I get to see him but in the meantime, I will serve him with a whole heart and keep praying faithfully to stay mounted in the word. Just like Psalm 23 says, the Lord is my Shepard I shall not want…. The second part of this passage is very encouraging to me and really makes me want to live a blameless life. The Lord promises that no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. How legit is that. That verse should be encouraging to all of us to walk a blameless lifestyle and stand firm in the word of God. Praise God!!!

  23. jacksondahl says:

    Awesome Psalm!

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked

This needs to be my attitude all the time! It is so true. One day in the presence of the Lord is the greatest thing anyone could ever imagine! And we get to spend eternity with him! This makes me so excited for the coming of Jesus.. MARANATHA!!! “my heart and fleshy cry out for the living God”- wow, now THAT is excitement and longing for God! That is what I need to strive for! This psalm just totally pumps me up for Jesus. I want him to come right now!

  24. Dustin Arbuckle I says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

This verse stood out to me the most. Better is one day in your courts that a thousand elsewhere, ever time i read this verse or see it in a song all i can think is wowww. For us to give up our lives and take up our cross for christ is nothing compared to what we recieve in heaven, God is so gracious!

    Matthew 10:38-39
38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

  25. nathan ortiz 2010 says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

I just love this whole chapter! I need to keep on standing firm in the Word and share the gospel to others no matter what the circumstance. My heart and flesh cry out for the living God and one way to show that is to meditate in His word daily and also praise him every day for keeping me alive to share the gospel one more day

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

So true, this world cannot even compare heaven and one day in heaven would be better than my whole life down on earth. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!

  26. Aubree Calderwood says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

This is such a great verse! I reminds me of how important it is to live a life of no compromise and to share the good news of Christ with others. God is so amazing and gives us so much! We need to be passionate about reading and sharing His word! :)

  27. Wesley Wong says:

this psalms is talking about heaven and how great it is going to be when we get there. it starts off in verse one declaring that where God dwells, which is heaven, is lovely! He then goes on and says in verse 2 that his soul desires for the courts of the Lord. merriam webster says that a court is basically like a huge housee. so the guy thats writing this psalms cant wait till he gets to heaven to see God.

this is how i should be when i live my life, i should know that heaven is better than anywhere on Earth. i should be like this guy thats writing the psalms. he knows heaven is beyond amazing, and now his soul desires for the courts of the Lord, which he later says that one day is God’s courts are better than a thousand elsewhere. that makes me want to represent jesus. because a thousand days is almost 3 years! and if one day in heaven is like 3 years on earth. i want to store my treasures in heaven. i want to represent God as much as I can. Because we won’t be spending just one day in heaven, you will be spending eternity in heaven. each day better than 3 years doing anything you want anywhere you want on Earth.

    yay(:

  28. KJ, swing and miss haha says:

This song is from “Better is one day” it has all the verses basically in that song!

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

This verse is awesome, talking about how awesome heaven is! It’s better to be the doorkeeper, someone who answers the door in heaven then it is to live as 1000 days with the wicked people, like on earth.

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Selah
5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.

Happy are those who dwell in heaven. Thinking about that, it’s going to be like a celebration, better than a dream when I’m gonna enter through heaven all because Christ died on the cross for my sins and has been raised from the dead! Then next verse says happy are those who stregnth is in you, Lord because you are our stregnth in weakness!
Thinking about verse 5, i found this amazing verse talking about strength in God when i was reading the Bible a couple of days ago. 2 Corthians 12:9 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

  29. PaYtOn :D says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

I love this verse. I would rather be a servant and work for the Lord, than be with the wicked. How awesome.

  30. Ella says:

oops that was me not payton :)

  31. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

This Psalm was intense! But now that i think of it, all the Psalms are intense, because they all describe and praise God for who He is! Verse 11 really stood out to me because the first half is epic, and the second half is convicting and awesome to know. When I think about it, the sun is pretty important for our physical existance for our life here on earth. It helps grow crops, so we can eat, and it gives us warmth. And sheild of course is so helpful too because they protect us from getting hurt. These are such creative and true similes! Without God, I wouldn’t exist, or have a purposeful life. Then, the second half of the verse is so simply put! God will make have a good life and not hold the good things if I live a blameless life to Him. So that is what I plan to do as a Christian!

  32. Riley Hancock says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

it would be great to be in the courts with God for one day than anywhere else. You are ether living for your self or your living for God and his army.

  33. Jasmine Douglas says:

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

HE is a sun and shield. This is a picture of God’s overall provision and protection in our lives. What a comforting thing to know. He will always be there for us and we have nothing to fear. The rest of the verse continues to tell us that no good thing is withheld from those who walk blamelessly. That is such an encouragement to live a life pleasing to the Lord. He wants to bless us and see his children full of joy. It’s up to us to decide what we do in given situations from God though. Are we going to give in to the flesh, or be obedient and do what God wants us to? I want to stand for Jesus, that’s what I want to do!

  34. PaYtOn :D says:

I love this Psalm(which is also a song). I would rather spend just a moment looking and worshiping God than spend eternity in the hands of the wicked and decietful. Good job commenting EVERYBODY! Can’t wait for this weeks message! :]

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

God is so amazing, that I(like in this verse) be the doorkeeper welcoming others into the courts and presense of GOD! He is a wonderful God and I want to be His slave. I would be willing to die, as Jesus did, so that all the sinners may go to Heaven. People need to see the truth and know that JESUS is the ONLY way to HEAVEN! And I want to help plant the seeds so that they know that Jesus Christ is KING! GO GOD! May His love and mercy endure forever and may His name be spread to the ends of the earth! :]

    ***PRAISE THE KING OF KINGS!!!***

  35. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 12,”O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.”

I like this verse because it talks about us being blessed. We are the ones who are truly blessed because we repented and put our faith in GOD even though people of the world seem like they have so much more they don’t. If you gain the world and lose your soul for eternity then where is the point its better to sacrifice being “popular or kool” then to send your sould to HELL.

    CYA

  36. Allen McAnlis says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

I don’t know about a lot of you, but last night’s sermon really spoke to me. I realized that in that room alone, there were tons of people who could be lying about their faith. I did not know that so many people end up leaving God in a blink of an eye. What God offers us is so much better then ANYTHING the world could even attempt to give us. God’s love and mercy is extended out to everyone, yet some people look it straight in the face and walk away. I thought of myself holding an ice cube over a bonfire. If I let go of the ice it would instantly vaporize. That is how my life would be if I turned from God. Ice in His hands instants away from droping into a fire, one much hotter then a bonfire I might add. I am safe to say that I never want to turn away from God and I also would rather serve as a slave at the masters house, then live in a pent house amongst the sinners of this world. May God continue to bless Compass and keep us strong as a church family. Do I hear Amen?

  37. Murphy Danahy says:

8 Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob.

Does it sometimes feel like GOD doesn’t hear us? Well that’s not true, GOD always hears our pleas, but like a loving father he often will not give us what we ask for. He knows what is best for us in the long run, and he will lead us on that path. So have faith.

  38. Jasmine 2010 says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

I love these verses and the lyrics made after them It reminds me of how awesome heaven is going to be. Like Bobby said, I can’t even imagine how great it will be to fall facedown when I finally see the Lord who I have been seeing with my new eyes I’m reminded that I’m not a citizen of earth so why should I get comfortable compromising with the world? (Philippians 3:20) I need to remind myself that my citizenship is in heaven. I’m not home yet and there’s always going to be a longing and homesickness. I want to cry out to God. It also reminds me of the other sermon about where I want my life to be so much about Christ that when I die it would be gain because true living is in Christ. Wow! The psalmist writes that it would be better to stay in God’s courts for only one day than a thousand anywhere else. That’s so incomparable. God’s creation is already amazing like when I visit places like Hawaii where it’s so beautiful that I can’t even imagine how beautiful heaven is going to be.Where He will actually prepare a place for me where I’ll stand with all my brothers and sisters in Christ. I can’t wait!

  39. Spencer Camp says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

This is the attitude all Christians should have! The living God, Lord of lords is better than everything! The only one that satisfies, therefore my soul yearns and even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God!

The picture this passage presents could be equated to a starving man in the middle of the barren desert crying out for water to quench his parched tongue. The Sons of Korah are Legit! They sincerely thirsting for the living water that will satisfy for all eternity.

Lord, stoke within me a thirst driven desire to pursue you the living water that will satisfy forever. The sin of this world, like salt water, satisfies for merely a moment, but leaves the thirsty even with a dry and bitter tongue. May I pursue you, the everlasting spring of fresh water, which satisfies forever all the days of my life.

Better is one day in your courts than thousands elsewhere! I know it’s true!

  40. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.
This shows me that l need to trust God all the time. At times I will try to take things in my hands but I need to remember God knows what is best for me. So this week I will try to trust God in everything.

  41. GaBrIeL VoRiS 2010 says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

This just gets me so pumped to see the glories of heaven when the Lord returns or when the time comes and I die. To think that being in Heaven one day is better than one thousand elsewhere just makes you wonder how awesome Heaven is going to be. I mean i have been so blessed on this earth and yet this earth is like junk compared to Heaven. I cannot wait to praise the Lord in Heaven.

  42. Kelsey says:

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Wow, this is an awesome psalm! I had such a hard time even picking a verse! I really liked this one though because it shows the great reward the we will get for following Christ. It really motivates me. Also, it is great inspiration in times of persecution. just compare the persecution to the eternal paradise, ad even just our blessings here on earth, and it does not evn compare. God is so faithful. And I praise him for that, but not enough. This verse reminds me of how amazing God is. It is definately going on my mirror so that i will se it in times of persecution and keep hope and keep strong in the Lord and always trust in Him no matter what

  43. Matt Crichton ((2010)) says:

    Psalm 84

What an amazing psalm. As I read it, I couldnt help singing it. Coming back from my high school camp, I am just in the mood to praise God for all he has done for me. I stood outside last night watching the Big Bear night sky…the shooting stars, constelations, and planets…all so amazingly created.

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

This has to be one of my favorite verses in all the psalms. That is how I want to veiw Heaven. One day there is better than a thousand nights gazing at the stars…and we get to spend eternity there. Eternity!!! Thats something to praise God for. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!

  44. Hannah says:

Ummmmmm why is this the best Psalm of my life?!?! Haha[: No, this is really awesome, ahh soo good! Okay basically something that totally stuck out for me was in verse 10,

“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

The 2nd half of it, “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” I would rather be in such a low position in the house of God than be in the “tents” (under a roof- with security) prospering with the wicked! And it’s so true! Ahh so good, and the way is put…..love it!

  45. Evan McKee says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Wow, this was an awesome chapter! I love this verse, it shows how exciting heaven is going to be, and I’m definitely looking forward to it. This verse is a good example of how a christian should think about God: the LORD of his life and the thing he wants more than anything else. I want to be characterized by this verse.

  46. Jordan Anderson says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.

12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

“The living God” That is such a comforting phrase to me. Reminding me constantly that the Lord is there and listening to my cries. My place is not in this world, but in the presence of the Lord Almighty, MARANATHA!! To live is Christ and to die is gain in my eyes!

BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO TRUSTS IN YOU! that is a promise.

  47. Jordan Anderson says:

and i agree with Hannah, this is my favorite psalm!! (:

  48. emily :) says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

I love this song!! It is such a great comparison and so true. God is SO amazing that just a single day would be unbelievably better that a thousand here on earth… And, even though at times it is tempting to think that things of this world can satisfy me, my true satisfaction is in Jesus Christ! And, heaven is my true home

  49. Katie Slusher says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

What an awesome reminder that one day in our eternal home with our Father will be better than a thousand days here on earth! I pray that I am living my life in light of this truth. My life here on earth will be short and should be lived for the day I will be in the courts of my Lord.

  50. kelly causky says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

This just reminded me of when I fainted in church. haha. It was very biblical..

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

I know we hear this often, but it holds so much meaning and promise. It assures us that heaven is going to be soooo much greater than earth that one day there will be satisfying. How amazing. We have great things to look forward to; let’s rejoice.

  51. Alison says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Mmm I’m feeling that! On days when a lot of worship has gone on I feel like it could go on forever and I could be perfectly content- and that’s how Heaven is going to be! I’m praying MARANATHA because I can’t wait to dwell in the house of the Lord forever!! Wow, can’t wait!!!

  52. Christopher Eriksen says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

It’s easy to say that God is better than anything else, but am I really showing that by the way I live? Do I really put myself in positions people might call degrading because I want to serve and be with my Lord or am I spending my time trying to have fun and enjoyment. Lord, please help me to find satisfaction only in you and please help that to result in me serving you because I would rather do that than anything else.

  53. Laura Johnson says:

    V. 10

I love this song from this verse! Dwelling inthe prescence of our Lord and Savior for just one day will be better than any days here on earth! And if were saved were not only going to spend one day with Christ, but spend all eternity with Him!

  54. Luke Melrose!!!!!! 2010 says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

I love this verse! It gives a great feeling of what Heaven will be like. It says that only one day would be better then spending enernity anywhere else. Its got to be AWESOME! This verse is not only cool, its also has encouraging words! It encourages me to live my live accordingly as God wants. Some day I will be with Him!

  55. Mark says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Spending one day in the house of God would be so awesome. Just one day in the house of God would be better than thousands of good days down here on earth. I cant imagine what it would be like to be in the house of God, but one day I will know, and I cant wait. Like this verse says, I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than dwell and be served in houses of wicked. One day we will be with Him for eternity!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!

  56. Brad says:

no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

What a great reminder and motivation to pursue holiness!

  57. justin haha Sherman says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

This Psalm is definetely one of my favorites-and it is also such a great worship song- Better is one Day! I love this verse because you can see the Psalmist’s cry out to God saying that his soul wants to be in God’s presence so bad. I too have this desire for Maranatha! I want to be in the courts of the Lord so bad, and you can even tie in Bobby’s message yesterday. That those who are truly living for Jesus and have repented (oppsie that was beckwards) will be in Heaven someday with him. I long for that day and I hope to see you there!

  58. Fëanor says:

5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

I really need to have my strength in God. If only I relied on God more. I really like in verse 6 where it says that people who love the Lord pass through a valley, and water comes out of the ground. This talks alot about how powerful God’s presence can be felt, if we only let him. People that have their strength in God go from strength to strength. That is a slightly “no duh” comment that I almost missed; however, really actually thinking about it makes me feel bold. If I trust in God, He will give me strength.

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. P.J. says:

“My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”

I want my life to imitate this verse 100%! I want everyone to know that I live a different life from the “crowd” and by my actions and words they can tell that my whole entirety is crying out for the living God. The desire to be with the Lord displayed by the writer is intense! He describes it as yearning, and even fainting. This verse displays two crucial mindsets that I should actively be striving for: the Maranatha mindset, and the “No Compromise” mindset.

  60. Lauren Goudge says:

    yo yo yo!!
2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. —These verses are legit!! I want my life to show Christ through everything! I cry out to God that I can just follow what He calls me to do everyday and I do not ignore it. It is so true that God does great thing for those who are blameless! He does done so many awsome things when I am following what God commands even though I dont deserve it!! I plan on staying standing on my relationship with Christ so that my walk may be blameless and God will do great things in my life.

    DON’T STOP STANDING!!
    stoked for this weekend!! :D

  61. Mady says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Wow!!! this verse is amazing! I need to always remember that earth is not my real home. This is just a temporary place for me. I will be in the courts of the Lord one day worshiping and praising him. My soul should YEARN, FAINT, and LONG to be in the presence of God! I cannot wait for that day!!!!! MARANTHA !!!!

  62. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 84

    MARANATHA

I love this psalm because of its MARANATHA mindset. When I read this psalm I always think of the song Better Is One Day.

How lovely is Your dwelling place,
    Oh Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied,
    within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
    Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would seek,
    to see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells

My heart and flesh cry out,
    For You the living God
Your spirit’s water for my soul
    I’ve tasted and I’ve seen,
    Come once again to me
I will draw near to You
I will draw near to You

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Selah

I am always so encouraged to know that one day I will be in the dwelling place of my Lord and Savior singing praises in His presence. Is it not ironic that we have that exact opportunity right now here on Earth? We are lifting our voices up in praise to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. A lot of Christians sing worship as if it is of no importance or that no one is listening. I am still amazed when I see professing Christians not even singing worship or just going thru the motions. Do they not realize that God Almighty is listening? If we think that God is not listening and worship is of no immediate significance than our view of God is low. We need to worship and pray like believers should with certainty that God is listening.

  63. Chelseaaa says:

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Even the best of days cannot compare to what its going to be like just one day in heaven. I cannot wait for that day to come. MARANATHA Lord MARANATHA

  64. Rebekah Foreman says:

2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

MARANATHA!! comes to mind when I read this. I can not wait tell God sends His son back to get us the thought is truly amazing!!!! I am ready today and cant wait!!
