Psalm 83

O God, Do Not Keep Silence

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

83:1 O God, do not keep silence;
do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold, your enemies make an uproar;
those who hate you have raised their heads.
They lay crafty plans against your people;
they consult together against your treasured ones.
They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
For they conspire with one accord;
against you they make a covenant—
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Moab and the Hagrites,
Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Asshur also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. Selah

Do to them as you did to Midian,
as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at En-dor,
who became dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves
of the pastures of God.”

13 O my God, make them like whirling dust,
like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest,
as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so may you pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane!
16 Fill their faces with shame,
that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever;
let them perish in disgrace,
18 that they may know that you alone,
whose name is the Lord,
are the Most High over all the earth. (ESV)

Look at your hand. How it moves without you even thinking about it(except for now, because you are thinking about it) :). How it knows what to type what is on your mind. How there are so many bones and tissues and muscles that manipulate your hand to move, touch, grab and sense. How can people say we evolved from starfish and monkeys? I say that is nonsense. God, who is all powerful, created us in His image. He created the moon and stars, which show His glory and His wonders. God is the ONE and ONLY God and I want to make that known to the ends of the earth! Just as God calls me to do in Matthew 28:18-20. :D

  2. Melissa Cox says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

This psalm is a prayer for God to take His enemies down and show them His power. God is so powerful that it’s scary. I’m so thankful to be His child and to avoid His coming wrath. In verse 16, Asaph prays that God will shame His enemies so that they will seek His name. As Christians we should have a healthy fear of God’s power, while at the same time wanting His name to always be glorified. We should want the enemies of God to turn to Him, seek His name, and be saved,

  3. Brooke Miller says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

God is above all, and all powerful! He created the heavens and the earth, how awesome! God is awesome! Christ deserves all of me and for me to be a slave to him! As this verse says, “Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD….” How are people going to know this? It starts with me! I need to be on my school campus, or wherever else I am, and preach the gospel and have it made known that the Lord is most high over all the earth! After reading this great passage, I am going to make sure I am serving God with my whole heart!!!!

  4. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 18,”Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”

I like this verse because it talks about GOD being the most high and being the LORD over everything. This is the GOD we worship HE was not made up and HE can’t die. HE is the ONE true GOD no other “gods” can stand before him. HE is the KING of KINGS and the LORD of LORDS.

  5. Steffen Eriksen says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Here Asaph is asking God to wipe out his enemies. He wants God to cover them with shame and dismay, that they will perish in disgrace. But the last verse tells us he also wants all this to happen so that they can know that the LORD alone is the Most High over all of the earth. He wants them to realize that God is above all else, and that they should praise and worship His name. Like the chorus of “Not to Us” says, “Not to us (Not to us), To Your name be the glory, O LORD.” As filthy, rotten sinners, we don’t deserve any praise. But God alone is the Most High over all the earth; He rules over all of creation. So as His creation, I need to be praising my Creator, My God and my King. He alone is worthy of all my praise. Instead of trying to glorify myself when I really deserve no credit for anything, I need to always direct the glory to God.

  6. Beth Lauder says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Verse 16 stood out to me because it shows that the psalmist ultimately desires his enemies to repent and acknowledge God as as the one true God more than he desires their punishment and destruction. The ultimate goal of this psalmist’s cry is not just to destroy his enemies, but to cause them to seek God as His people. I am challenged by this verse. Is my main desire when I cry to the Lord for justice when I am being wronged or persecuted by someone that they would be saved? Or am I just concerned with God judging them and them stopping their attack against me? Lord, help me to be like this psalmist. Help me to desire Your justice and your punishment for the wicked, but help me to want them to be saved from their sins even more.

  7. Cameron says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

this verse sums up the whole chapter, and proclaims that God alone is to be worshipped and feared, for He alone is the only Most High in all the earth. this entire chapter is about the psalmist wanting God to judge the enemies of israel who scoff at them and God Himself. this chapter and this verse give great reasons why we should fear God: because of His power and ability to destroy. He retains all power to do so, and would not be unjust in destroying all the sinners He hates. but as Christians, even though there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), we still need to fear God. He still chastens His children, but we also need to be afraid to offend the God we love with our sin. when we disobey our parents (whom i trust we all love, hopefully) we should feel guilty afterwords, because they are upset and hurt. it is the same except on a much larger scale with God. if our parents get mad and offended when we sin against them, how much more God will be offended when we sin against Him even more. we need to fear God and keep His commandments, and in doing so He will be glorified

  8. Max says:

14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

Asaph compares God’s anger towards those who are hurting Israel to a raging forest fire that sets a whole mountain on fire. I’ve seen videos of huge fires on the news, and they are very very scary. And then Asaph says that He will pursue them with “Your tempest,” and “terrify them with Your storm.” I’ve also seen what powerful storms and hurricanes can do on the news. I would not want to be in either of those situations. But those descriptions of earthly things don’t even completely describe God’s power. I do NOT want to be in His way when He is mad and when He judges the wicked. That will be very very VERY scary.

  9. Alicia Karlsson says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.
Wow, the verses before this talk about how the psalmist wants his enemies destroyed and he knows God can do that and then he adds this verse which really shows the compassion and desire he has to see his enemies repent and acknowledge the LORD as Lord. What a great example to us of the kind of desire we should have for our enemies. Out hearts should want to see them ultimately repent and seek the Lord.

  10. Nicholas Bonetto says:

15 “So pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.”

I don’t want this happening to me, God will pursue me with such anger and hatred if I’m not on His side. God’s storm is not a storm like here, God’s storm is going to be closer to how Hell is. When God wants to destroy someone, He absolutely will destroy them. I need to remember to be fearful of God and respect His awesome power.

    Goodmorning . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 83 . . .

“18. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”

Asaph is saying, God SHOW THEM WHO YOU ARE. Don’t be silent and not say anything. God, you are the ONLY one who is high over the earth. Afterall, you did make it and us to live in it. Not only does this verse talk about that, but also verse 1. Their very similar in the fact that Asaph want’s God to show to the wicked people who He is. He really is crying to God for Him to keep his eyes open and witness the wrong doings of the wicked people.

  12. Ben Blakey says:

1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.
2 See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads.

Asaph is talking about the enemies of God, which in this case are people who want to attack God’s people in Israel. God still has enemies today. All throughout society we see people actively working against the revealed will of God. And in the midst of that, I still want to be praying the prayer of these verses.

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I love how this verse is the end goal of the chapter. We do not want God to be silent because we want everyone to know that he alone is God! That sounds kind of like a prayer for Revival to me!

Can’t wait to go to my first ever True North United tonight!

  14. The Psalmist is crying out for God to show the wicked His power with really the ultimate goal not being their destruction eternally but rather their realization of their sin and their need for repentance and faith. This was really convicting for me because there are some people who I pray for God to judge but without really desiring and praying that rather they would repent and come to know the Lord. May that always be my prayer, may verse 18 be the cry of my heart…

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

  15. Jacob Antoun 2010 says:

13 Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind.

The psalmist is crying out to God to destroy those who are against Him. Yet why does the psalmist do this, we get the answer in the next verses.

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.
18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

We can see that psalmist is not calling for God’s enemies to be destroy for his own sake, but rather that those nations God is destroying will seek after God and turn to Him. That they would realized that God is the Most High. The whole motive behind the psalmists cry is that Gods name would be glorified and lifted high!

  16. Elise says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

As many of you have pointed out, the psalmist in this Psalm is crying out for God’s justice. He wants God to crush those who do not glorify God as they should. He also prays that their faces will be ‘covered with shame’, in other words, that their sin would somehow be revealed to them so that they will be repentant and seek the Lord. Its strange to think that he would pray something like this at first because it seems like the psalmist absolutely despises these people. In the end, he is praying for their salvation because he wants God to be glorified. It makes me wonder if that is why I am praying that others will be saved. Of course I want others to escape hell, but I need to be focused on God being glorified as much as possible. I need to be focused on giving God glory more than helping the sinner (which only God can do anyways).

  17. Alex Mishreki says:

14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,

15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Wow!! The wording of these verses grabbed my attention. “Pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm”, “may they perish in disgrace”. Our God is a just God, and deserves to be glorified. And those who walk all over Him, spit at His Word, and persecute His people should be trembling in FEAR! And that fear, as the Psalmist is saying, should lead them to seek God, and ultamitley bring them to their knees in repentance. And through that, God WILL be glorified. These verses are going to be going through my head today as I meet unsaved people who are destined for Hell. May God give me the boldness and words to speak, and the mindset that where we spend eternal life is far more important than what we accomplish today on this earth. May they come to know that the Lord is Most High over all the earth!

  18. Sarah G.! says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

This verse just really gives me a sense of humility. It gave me the idea that God gets more glory at times when man is not in the way, therefore putting the ungodly to shame. God is all powerful and our insignificant selves will see it more as He punishes the wicked. I’m praying that students at Aliso Niguel High will seek the Lord that He may receive all the glory as the powerful One. :D

  19. Murphy Danahy says:

15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

This is the kind of terror and punishment that will face GOD’s enemies in hell. GOD will punish those who don’t accept CHRIST. This should be motovation for us to evangelize to our friends.

  20. Shelby says:

6 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Wow God is so powerful! I am so glad that I am his child and that I do not have to endure his wrath.

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

God is above all! God is perfect, sinless, and his name deserves my praise. I want to strive to be a godly example everyday.

  21. Angela says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth

I really like this verse cause it states a very good and true fact. God is better that all and is perfect and most of all he is the Most High God, he is the one and only God, and its just amazing to think about that!!!

    C u all a True North United!!!!!!! :)

  22. KJ says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

This verse is pretty awesome! Asaph is asking God to cause like natural diasters that is from God’s powers like fires and storms to their enemies know that the Lord is actually responds rather than those idols that the other nations have who don’t. That God’s power may be shown to all the other nations, to let them know Our God Reigns! That the Lord is the lord of all!

  23. Jenae nae :) says:

This is a great chapter to just show how much power God really has!! He can do sooo many things to the people who persecute us! We need to show love to our enemies and try and help them other wise God will do terrible things to them that they will deserve.

  24. Jasmine Wonton says:

6 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Great comments! I really like this verse. It gives me a new perspective on seeking God’s name. It’s in the hard times, when I really come to God humbled and my pride broken when I can fully grow closer to Him.

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I’m praying for this! It saddens me when I go to school and when people take God’s name in vain and totally reject Him. I’m going to pray for softened and open hearts and to let them know that He is the only one who can save them and that He is the most High and also the Lord of my life. See you all at TN united =]

  25. kelly causky says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I do not want to upset God. This chapter was a good reminder to fear the Lord because even though he is our Father, his punishments are a lot harsher than a time out and a slap on the hand. Each day, obedience should be the most important thing because we know what God does to those who disobey him.

  26. jacksondahl says:

14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.
16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Great Psalm. This Psalm is all about God’s amazing wrath basically pwning those who oppose him and his people. One day, everyone will bow down and seek his name, and I can know that I will be rewarded for following him now, even when the world doesn’t! God is so just. I love the variety of the Psalms, because you really get to see how both loving and wrathful God is… one day it’s about his endless love, the next about his intense wrath. Sweet to think about who God is!

See you all at True North United!

    MARANTHA!!!

  27. Christopher Eriksen says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Sin will definitely lead to shame, but it would be much better to feel shame now and repent than feel shame on the Day of Judgment when it will be too late. I need to be praying for God to convict people’s hearts now so they will repent while they still can. Lord, please help me also to have boldness to tell people the errors of their ways even when they don’t want to hear it so that they would be ashamed of their sin and repent and seek you.

  28. hunter 2010 says:

9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10 who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground.

This is what happens to those who decide to be agianst God’s people…they become “like refuse on the ground”. God is pasionate about Isreal, and He will not let those who fight against her (nations like Iraq, Egypt, Iran, and Syria) go unpunished! The cool thing is, as new testament saints, we are considered God’s children to! Because of this I am going to trust God during pursecution and have faith in His just nature!

  29. Ryan Cox says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.
17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.
18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Wow! This imprecatory psalm has some serious heat, but the end justifies the wrath-summoning: Asaph wants these nations/men to be brought to shame so that they will know that God is GOD. We need to have the same desire of God being shown & known as the Most High, especially on our campuses.

  30. Rebekah Foreman says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

God is the most high and is on top of everything better then anyone and should be first.

  31. Collin Sellers says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

What an exceptional finish indeed Ben!

I like how this is a very powerful yet simple verse. It is so true that God is everything, and He is 1st in not only everything He does but in my heart as well.

Wish I could have been at United, hope God blessed you all with a fantastic evening!

  32. Zach V. says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

How great would it be if the whole state of California was saved!!!? God can do it, we just have to pray and witness. I can never witness enough even though I’m tempted to take a break sometimes. If you were a life guard and could save someone from drowning everyday, would you every see someone drowning and just take a break?
I definitely wouldn’t. I just need to do it with the gospel everyday becasue s[iritual salvation is worth much more than physical salvation.

  33. Hannah says:

I love that throughout this whole chapter he is crying out to God, praying for God’s people to be “put to shame” but not for his own benefit but so in the end God would be ultimatly glorified!

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.
18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

  34. Mike says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

This verse was a conviction that I am not praying for this every day. We sang “Let Your Kingdom Come;” the desire to see God exalted should be our utmost desire. Every day that we wake up here on earth is a sign that not everyone God will save is saved yet; so I need to be looking at every day as an opportunity so spread the Gospel, and I need to be praying daily that God will bring about revival at LH and all the other schools, so that people will turn to God and recognize Him as Lord.

  35. katie baxter says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I am in love with this verse! One day everyone will confess that God is Lord, and he will be getting all the glory he deserves! We need to spread his name, so that everyone knows the good news.

  36. Laura Johnson says:

    V. 18

The Lord is defenitely most high! And He rules everything, no one can defeat Him. I wantto let people know who the Lord is and that He is to be praised!
True North United was so awesome tonight! I really liked the message ,let’s find strength in the Lord Almighty and fight this battle til the end!

  37. Alison says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

YES!!! Mmm this reminds me of some of the worship we sang tonight- Let your kingdom come, let your will be done, so that EVERYONE might KNOW YOUR NAME. This is my prayer!! I’m living for the day that every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God! I’m gonna keep standing- I can’t WAIT to be with Jesus!

  38. Karsten Klein says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I think many people overlook god being the most high and ultimate power in the universe. I think everyone should defenitly tremble with fear when they think of how awsome and powerful god is.

  39. Jasmine Douglas says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Great comments on this verse, everyone. I pray tonight that God gives me a humble heart, full of love and compassion, especially for my enemies. It’s so easy to look at people and say they deserve hell. But am I any better? No. I myself am completely unworthy, yet by God’s grace I was saved. It had nothing to do with my good works. So I pray that God also gives me boldness to share truth with everyone around me. We are all in need of a Savior.

  40. Wesley Wong says:

So in the beginning of this psalms its all like a song. A psalm of Asaph. And that’s exactly what it is, but it is also like a prayer. In verse 1 he starts our by saying God, do not be still because he found out that a bunch of nations are going to attack Israel. He’s basically like saying, God, we need your help, our enemies are teaming up to attack us. they are gathering around from around all the world. from the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites…and he keeps on naming all the nations that are going to attack the people that God cherishes. But then this guy goes on saying from verses 9-11, God, you destroyed all these nations that attacked us, who said let us take possession of Israels land. So do the same to those who are going to attack us. he then praises God and that is the end of the psalms.

Wow!! Sometimes in our lives we’re like God, can you work in my life? I want to do your will, not my will. But there is one problem. there is an enemy out there trying to destroy me. he his giving me the hardest time i can have on earth, striking me with temptations and trials of all sorts. i pray to God, im like, Jesus, destroy this enemy of mine like you destroyed the enemies of the Israelites. Conquer the devil, and fill me with your holy spirit just as you have done in the past, providing me with a way out of temptaions. and sure enough, God didn’t just stand still, he filled me with the holy spirit and defeated the enemy! just as Asaph prayed to God to not be still and defeat the enemy.

When the devil hits you with temptation, remember that God is not just going to satnd there and watch it all happen. God will answer your prayers if it is according to his will(1 John 5:14). And when the enemy, aka the devil strikes you with temptation, remember 1 Corinthians 10:13, which basically says that God won’t let you get tempted beyond what you can bear, and no matter what temptation the enemy is throwing at you, he will provide a way out of it.

    :)

  41. Brady Hutchings says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I like this verse because it is in its own way a type of praise and worship for God simply by proclaiming that he is the most high over the earth.

  42. Ian H. says:

I need to get back into SotD!

2 “See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads.
3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.”

In this Psalm he wrote, Asaph cries to God to defeat His enemies, those who threaten His children. Now back in Asaph’s day, God’s kids were Israel, and many of the surrounding nations were their actual, physical enemies. We as Christians aren’t necessarily in the same situation today, but we certainly do have enemies who are trying all the time to bring us down and pull us away from the Lord: Satan and the demons. Like pastor Bobby preached tonight, it’s a spiritual battle between the Holy Spirit and the demons, a fight for control over our minds, and we need to maintain a battle mindset. Satan and his armies are constantly tempting us to go along with the world and whatnot. We have to fight the current and what our sinful nature is telling us! I have to say no to that sin, turn from it, and instead follow Jesus Christ and His will! Lord, help me to do that every single day.

  43. Austin Payne 2010 says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Mmmm, Revival begins with the declaration of God’s Glory. The Fear of God and understanding of His Might and Sovereignity is essential in standing tall. Let the word of God and His Glory never leave our mouths!!!

  44. Eric Walker says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

This is sooo important. As Christians, it is our duty to go into all the earth and make disciples (Matthew 28:19). Our high schools are a great place for this. They are full of non believers that reject God, so we need to talk with them and be praying for them. Campus lunches are a great way to spread the word of God at our campus so lets all bring a bunch of people to the campus lunches and see many people be saved. God is the Most HIGH over all the earth and deserves all the glory, forever and ever. Praise God!!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Lauren Goudge says:

    heeyyooo
1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.—This is my prayer! I do not want to God to be silent in my life or anyone’s life!! A lot of the people need to be shown the truth and that if they don’t turn their life around they will be in big time trouble! I want God to make it clear what I definitely need to change in my life and show me the way! I know God has a can of wrath ready to be poured and I need to make sure my life is where it has to be and that I am bringing glory to God! Open up my eyes to the things unseen Lord!! Help to stay standing and not be shaken at all!!

TRUE NORTH UNITED WAS AMAZING!! the sermon was the bomb Pastor Bobby!! It really motivated me that I definitely need to make sure im not going to fall!! see everyone this weekend!!

  46. Katie Slusher says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Hmm, I’m convicted by this verse. Regardless of the personal wrongs that may have been done by my enemies, my ultimate prayer should be that they would see their sin, repent and turn to the Lord. Unfortunately in my pride I often think more about them deserving destruction, than praying for their repentence. I pray that in these times I would remember my own depravity before my salvation and recognize that I was once a wretch who has been saved only by God’s grace!

  47. P.J. says:

“Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”

This verse reminded me of my responsibility to tell others of my Lord, whether through my actions or words of boldness. I want to tell someone else about the Gospel and about Jesus Christ tomorrow at school, but I want everyone to know by my actions that I won’t compromise.

  48. Haley Litz says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I love how this verse says “that you ALONE…” That is so true!!!! God ALONE is the Most High over all the earth. There is NO ONE that compares with God. No one is even close to being Holy, Just, Faithful, Forgiving, etc. Only God…. People need to know that God ALONE is the LORD and is over all the earth!!! I need to be on my high school campus proclaiming to people that there is NO ONE like our God and how awesome He is!!!!!

  49. Derek Brower 2010 says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Man what a powerful verse! And like Haley said, I like how its “that you alone”. No one else can share the attributes of God or be Most High over everything…. Its simply amazing and hard to fathom the Lord’s eternal splendor!

  50. Morgan Sherman says:

5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-

This verse brings me back to revival 09 this summer. Pastor Mike talked about two only two teams-God’s team and Satan’s team. I know this convicted so many people and they felt the tug of the Holy Spirit upon their hearts to come over to the team that is hard right now mut will be the biggest reward in the end. But the thing about this verse…is that most people in this world today dont even realize that they are on Satan’s team-God’s enemy. Most people think they are on the right track. You dont often find people on evangelism nights that will admit to being a folower of Satan. This is another one of those verses that convicts me to evangelize more, knowing that some people out there dont even realize that they are an enemy of God!

  51. Pastor Bobby says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

I am praying this same thing for the high schools of Orange County! I am praying that people will know who God is because of how we live and what we say at True North!

Let’s keep praying for the Revival to continue and invite someone to hear the next Don’t Stop Standing sermon this weekend: Standing Out From The World!

  52. Sara L. says:

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

This verse is a good one that reminds me how I should be seeking everything for the good of the LORD, not myself. The psalmist does not want these things to happen to the others for his own gain, but instead for the LORD’s. I would do well to make sure that I am ALWAYS following this example.

I will be praying for Revival at my school and in other schools of True Northers!

  53. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 83

16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

Asaph is petitioning the Lord to cover Judah’s enemy’s faces with shame. Judah is in danger of destruction from conspiring nations. Asaph called upon the Lord to use His power to overthrow the plot against Judah. The psalmist did not just pray for their enemy’s destruction but that they would come to fear the God of Israel and eventually seek His name.

Matt 5:44-47 44 But I tell you: Love your enemiesand pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

This is a great lesson for all who call themselves Christians. Do we have compassion for our enemies or are we only concerned about those who we think would make a great Christian brother or sister. Christ loved us unconditionally so we should mirror that same love and compassion even to those that show us contempt. We should never return evil for evil.

Go into all the High Schools and preach the good news to every student.

  54. Allie Moorefield(: says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
Great verse! This verse talks about God alone being the Most High over all the earth! In the beginning it says, LET THEM KNOW! We, especially myself need to work and be confident to spread the word of God! We need to let others know that God is the Most High over all the earth and that nothing can compare! We need to preach the gospel and the truth!
I continue to pray for a revival (:

  55. josh senger says:

18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
i like how in this chapter david is talking about how many nations r conspiring against them and david makes sure to acknowledge that the Lord rules over everything and that He is the most high. no one is over God and He is our master always. when i think about how God is in control over everything it brings everything into a whole new light. it reminds me that nothing on this earth realy matters excpet what God wants, and i want to show him praise for all his things

  56. Riley Hancock says:

1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.

You always have a plan for me help me to live closer to you.

  57. Chelseaaa says:

5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-

The world stands against the Lord. And we stand against the world on God’s side. We will fight and we will win. Take courage in the truth. MARANATHA
