Revelation 14

The Lamb and the 144,000

14:1 Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.

The Messages of the Three Angels

Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.”

And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

The Harvest of the Earth

14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Put in your sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia. 1. Luke Melrose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! says:

    UNO COMMENTO!!!!!

7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.

This pretty much says it all! (That would be kind of freaky to see an angel flying over and telling everyone that judgement has come.) But the angel is very clear on what to do. Fear God, give Him glory………worship Him… As Christians we need to do this. We need to be ready the dawn of the day of judgement!…….SO BE PREPARED!

  2. Matthew Richards (from Cleveland) says:

Great comment Luke! I was thinking the same thing.

10 he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
11 And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.”

So many people I talk to do not realize the severity of Hell. In this passage, people clearly do not understand the full consequences of taking the mark of the beast (which results in experiencing Hell forever). Hell is a serious place, and it is a serious subject. God does not mess around with sin. When people live against his wishes, they can be guaranteed that they will suffer in burning sulfur forever. As Christians, we need to boldly and clearly communicate the depth of Hell. It’s going to be complete torture forever and, personally, I don’t want to see anyone ever have to go there. Let’s be praying people understand the severity of their situation and the grim reality of what Hell truly is and how long it lasts.

  3. Cameron says:

4These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.

this verse reminds me of God Calls It Love #4, God does not want us to be sexually immoral, which doesnt mean just fornication. the middle part of htis verse says that they follwed the Lamb whereever he goes, we should follow him too. we should obey the Lord’s commands becasue we are dead to our sin. Revelation has much death and desruction, and a lot of it is due to sexual immorality. clearly God hates it, and we should be fearful of what God is going to do us as judgement

  4. zach v says:

19 The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.
20 They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia

That is crazy, blood as high as the horses bridles. Horses bridles are like 5 feet high for 1,600 stadia. A stadia is about 600 feet. This shows just the beging of Gods wrath and why sins pleasures only last a short time.

  5. Jenaee (= says:

6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people.

7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

When i read this, i thought that this is exactly what we, as christians, should be doing! “Flying” all over our highschools and citys and telling everybody that they need to fear God and repent! This is our job as christians so we need to take that responsibility and do it.

  6. christopher eriksen says:

10he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.

That’s so true Matt. So many people don’t take Hell seriously and think they can indulge in sin and get out of it ok. But like Bobby said in God Calls it Love #4, you can’t play with fire without getting burned. Just think about the blood 4/5 feet high that will go on for miles and then realize that this is just temporary earth and that there will be unceasing anguish in Hell forever. We need to be praying for these people that they will realize the severity of their sin and God’s response to it and take advantage of every opportunity to evangelize so they can be saved. And in our own personal lives we need to make sure that we are avoiding any type of sin or place that might lead us into sin, because we cannot sin without feeling the consequences.

  7. Brooke says:

7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.

This is such an encouraging verse! We need to fear God and give him glory, because on the day of judgement, we will all be judged! It is a scary thought that we will be getting judged for all the sins we have committed. But if you know that you are right with God, then it is not that frightening. We need to live our lives pleasing to him, and always be giving him glory and all our praise!

  8. Shane McCuistion says:

7He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

I totally agree with Luke and Brooke here. Everyone should have fear to go to judgement. He will go through every little thought or idea or thing you have sinned and you will be judged on it. So you want to make sure you are right with God. Luke, your right that it will be really scary to see an angel telling you judgement is coming. I would be so scared.

  9. Kyle Johnson says:

4These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.

This verse is exactly what God calls it Love #4 today, it’s exactly talking about. Those people who are God’s children, who are Christians kept themselves from sexual immorality, they kept themselves pure because they had fear of the Lord. They kept themselves far away from the “line”, they ran away from it, just like Joseph in Genesis 39 did. If we don’t keep our selves pure like these guys then we are going to get destroyed just like Pastor Bobby said today.

  10. Haley Litz says:

4These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.
5No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

These people are redeemed through the blood of Christ and were purchased from among men. At the end of the verse, it says they are blameless, which is being sanctified. They aren’t sinless, but are sanctified. That is a description we should strive to have. The bar is Jesus Christ and we are called to live blameless lives for Him and His glory.

  11. Bethany Gonzales says:

6Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people.
Now just imagine that happening today! So many people would be amazed and think they were crazy or something! Others would know that it was time to be judged and be racing everywhere just like the angel telling people about His name. I love seeing people out there evangelizing. It encourages me to do it even more! Let us continue to tell others about His name, because we don’t want to see any of these people in Hell with the Lord’s wrath against them. Lord save these souls! :)

  12. Sarah G.! says:

13Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

The last part of this verse really stood out to me.. “for their deeds will follow them.”. Are we obeying God’s commandments everyday, does it show in our deeds?? We need to make sure we obey all of God’s commandments out of love for Him, and become slaves for Christ! :D

  13. vsunshine says:

This chapter is so exciting to read! On Mount Zion the Lamb and 144,000 will stand triumphantly on earth. And they sang a new song before the thrown…oh man I wish I could know the words and melody of the song that will be sung! We sing so many worship songs in church, at home, or in the car but how many times are we truly worshipping Him? Sometimes I think that we get caught up in the envierment we are in or begin to think about other things while we are still singing instead of focusing on Him! Worship is a time to praise and glorify God for all that He is and has done in our lives…it is not just a song to be sung well or a great song to sing to! Worship is all throughout the Bible, warning us about not worshipping other gods like Deuteronomy 5:9 says. In 1 Chronicles 16:29 it says to worship the Lord with the splender of his holiness and in Psalm 100:2 it says we need to worship Him with gladness and come to him with joyful song, not thinking about anyone or anything else that will cause us to lose our focus on praising Him. What a blessing that we can sing to our a God at any time and it doesnt matter to Him what it may sound like! But going back to the verses what an exciting day to hear the new song!

  14. Wow Vanessa, Solid comment!! I was thinking the same thing, and as I was reading your comment I couldn’t help but think about the song, “LifeSong” This is song is about the song we make with our actions in our life, and if our ‘life song’ is really worshipping Christ, with a sacrificial lifestyle. The verse that comes to mind is romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God”s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship.

I love that fact that worship is not just a song, but it is a lifestyle, and depending by what our lifestyle looks like shows what we truely worship! And it is awesome to see that all of you on this website or true and persistant which shows a life style of Godliness that is a blessing to me! Praise the Lord for the way He is working, He is faithful to us all!

  15. kyle pickell says:

7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.

That verse is totally awesome because imagining an angel flying over and saying “Fear God and give Him glory” would be awesome.

And as Christians we need to fear the wrath and God and do what he expects us to do.And we have to live all out for God and praise Him all the time.

  16. Jessica Adams says:

…10 he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb…
…12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.

This chapter, specifically in verse 10, gives us a really radical sight of hell. If we give in to ANY of the devil’s schemes, we fall short and will suffer for ever and ever. This is why it’s so important to have Jesus Christ in our lives, and have patient endurance while following God’s commandments throughout our entire time here on earth (v12). And, like someone already said… We need to be like these angels, flying through our high schools and warning others of what’s to come if they don’t repent!!

  17. Skyler "skillit" says:

7He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

I like this verse because it sais “fear God and give him glory” as every one in the world should but unfortinatly not everybody gives God glory. Us as christians should share Gods word so more and more people can give the father glory, the creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and the springs of water.

  18. hunter says:

Zach, those verses stood out to me also, that is such a crazy amount of blood!

8A second angel followed and said, “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great, which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”

This verse is crazy, but so true. Sin and adultry can be so “intoxicating” to the point that we forget we are in sin. This is a perfect reason why we need to constatnly have the Word of God in hearts and minds so that we can accurately tell when we are in sin and how we can get out of it.

  19. MJ says:

2And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.

How awsome is that. They are the only ones who get to know that song.

  20. Beth ann says:

19The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.

20They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.

    these verses scared me……

7He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
knowing from this moment i do fear God.

  21. Bobby Blakey says:

6Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people.

7He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Pastor Mike has talked about these two verses a couple of times since he got back from vacation. In this example of the eternal gospel the angel says to fear God. This is similar to repentance in that we turn away from our sins and obey God’s will instead. Unfortunately, when many people talk about the gospel they leave out things like fearing God or repentance. Let’s make sure we include these things! Let’s be God’s angels or messenger in Orange County today!

  22. DVworkum says:

ok this might sound like a very dumb question but is there only going to be 144,000 saved…I am confused.

anyway the chapter was really cool because it shows just this prelude to the end if that is the right word. God’s judgement is her, be warned! It is just a bitersweet moment
