Deliver Me, O Lord, from Evil Men
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
140:1 Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men;
preserve me from violent men,
2 who plan evil things in their heart
and stir up wars continually.
3 They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s,
and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah
4 Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
preserve me from violent men,
who have planned to trip up my feet.
5 The arrogant have hidden a trap for me,
and with cords they have spread a net;
beside the way they have set snares for me. Selah
6 I say to the Lord, You are my God;
give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O Lord!
7 O Lord, my Lord, the strength of my salvation,
you have covered my head in the day of battle.
8 Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;
do not further their evil plot, or they will be exalted! Selah
9 As for the head of those who surround me,
let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them!
10 Let burning coals fall upon them!
Let them be cast into fire,
into miry pits, no more to rise!
11 Let not the slanderer be established in the land;
let evil hunt down the violent man speedily!
12 I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted,
and will execute justice for the needy.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name;
the upright shall dwell in your presence. (ESV)

ELLO… I read
I like verse 5,”Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. Selah.”
I like this verse because it talks about the fact that everyone that is not a CHRISTian is trying to make us fall. If we have friends that aren’t CHRISTian or just people that we hang out with then we are in danger of falling. Their mouths will be saying the worst words known to man and if we hang out with them we will be able to resist for a little but you will stumble and lessen their view of CHRISTianity.

4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
This is so important for us all because we need to be praying for deliverance from evil everyday in our lives. It will happen to all of us, temptations, persecutions and trials but we need to stand strong in the faith and not compromise!
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy. 6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
I like it that when David needs help, he asks the Lord. He doesn’t turn to others and trust their advice because he knows sure and well that God is his strong deliverer, who shields his head in the day of battle.
I want to trust God as David does and seek out His mercy. Because God is full of love for those who are his sons.
Small Groups tonight! :^) SC @ my house…
Man, guys, I am so encouraged to see the few comments that have been posted so far, and how you guys GET it. When I’ve read this before I was Christian, I always thought it was so odd that the psalmist would write and be so selfish in his requests. Not that I questioned it, because, frankly, it resonnated with me! But when I come back to this since I’ve received the Holy Spirit within me, and He has taken over ALL of me (not just parts), I see that the psalmist is talking about EXACTLY what some of you posted. He is asking the Lord for His mercies with the evil men that come his way, because he knows how dangerours they are, as they appeal to the carnal side of him!
We should be so enlightened and aware! Instead, pride often has the tendency to leak in and whisper (or sometimes shout) to us how we can be around the evil, because WE are STRONG. No, guys, we’re NOT. The HOLY SPIRIT IS, though. And He tells us to RUN from the temptations we encounter.
The pastors are right. And it’s not just about high school. It’s for the REST. OF. OUR. LIVES. Every day. Every situation. A commitment to choose Jesus and not the world. Even the slightest compromise can (and usually does) lead to sin…
Praying for the Holy Spirit to convict the hearts of all TN’ers to bring us ALL out to SG’s tonight! A little food, a little fellowship, a little worship, a little Gospel, and a little growth…
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips. Selah
These verses jumped out at me because at school, it is so hard to stay godly!! The psalmist is recognizing the world’s evil influence and is crying out to God for help. If we know we’re in sin and that the world is corrupting us, we should cry out to God to lead us away and keep us away! I haven’t been doing very well in that area lately and i pray God will pull me closer and take me away from those who tempt me.
God, please help me to stay away from those who corrupt me. Keep in your word always and do not let me stray. AMEN
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
After all David’s trouble with his kingship and his sons, he can still worship and praise the Lord and completely trust him with everything! And I think I need to do the same (obviously) because lately everything has seemed to be getting harder. Not necessarily people trying to steal my kingship (lol) but instead we have had midterms which were really hard, I have been sick lately, and my school bill is in front of me. God will do what He wants I know, I just need to trust him in that.
9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.
David is asking God to come down on those who are doing evil and punish them. Here in this verse in particular, he is asking that God will repay the trouble that people make with their lips. The mouth is such a powerful weapon! James 3:5 says, “Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” It is a dangerous weapon and it can inflict great damage. The tongue can also be used for good purposes, yet more often people use it for gossip, slander, profanity, sexually immoral jokes, lying, and other things of the like. They make their mouth a filthy trash can, that the words coming from their mouths are full of sin. I need to not use the same vocabulary as the people of the world around me. I need to use my tongue for the purpose it was made, to glorify God. With it I will sing praises to the LORD in song and recount all of His wondrous deeds. And in talking to other people, I will use my tongue to bring God glory. Instead of tearing people down, I need to build others up with encouragement. Instead of lying all the time, I need to be a speaker of the truth. Instead of talking about things that mean nothing, I need to evangelize! For what better words can flow from my lips than the gospel?!?!
4 “Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.”
As Christians, we are going to be persued by the world and people are going to hate us. Sure, I can try to fight the world with my own power, but I can’t do anything in my own power and will certainly loose. The Psalmist is asking God to protect him from his enemies. This is what I need to do, instead of relying on my own strength to win, I’ll rely on God who has the power to destroy the Universe with just His voice. God is my only hope and shelter.
8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud.
I like this verse because i see this all the time throughout the day. Just yesterday I was thinking of how it is hard to compliment people who are so conceded because they just become more proud of themselves. If something happens in their favor, they get so prideful and it teaches me to be the opposite. After reading this verse it reassures me the Lord and the author think the same thing, they don’t want people to become prideful and they don’t want the wicked to be successful.
“Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence, who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.”
Man, I love how God constantly reminds me of passages in the Bible whenever I’m in need of a reminder, or for help. It’s been really hard for me lately to be put in a place (my school) that is so worldly and puts profanity, sex, and drugs as their top priority. I’ve gotten really discouraged lately and worried about it, but I need to trust in the Lord for him to fight my battles, and forgive the people who persecute me when I’m trying to live a godly life. I need to realize that I have an inheritance in heaven waiting for me, and this should excite me to evangelize to the hell-bound souls at my school! God “rescue me from evil men” and remind me to trust in your greatness and power as I strive to live a godly life at school and wherever else I go!
Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!!
7 O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle- God always protects up form our enemies. He protects us from harm like a shepherd with his sheep. i need to thank jesus more often for what he does for me.
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
God is the one who will eventually give everyone what they deserve. So that means that it’s not my place to go and take matters into my own hands. God will take vengence on the wicked. Trying to do it for Him is wrong. I don’t have to want to get back at anyone because i know God will eventually do the job.
Ps 140:13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
Great way to focus on the day God gives us: praising and living upright for God…
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. 13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
The final two verses of this psalm stood out to me because they show the psalmist’s confidence that the Lord will protect him. Despite the fact that the psalmist is being persecuted by ungodly people who intend him great harm, the psalmist seeks God’s protection and expresses trust in Him. I was convicted to search my response to persecution against me. Do I, like the psalmist, immediately turn to God for help, asking for His deliverance, perseverance, and protection? Or do I get angry at the wicked people and try to seek revenge on them by my own power? My prayer is that I would respond to persecution like this psalmist and always place my complete trust in God to avenge wrong against me. I will give thanks to God for being my God, the one who supports the needy and executes justice on our behalf!
Goodmorning . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 140 . . .
God,
All those wicked men, the ones who caused me to stumble, put them out. God the men, with evil plots, who were thrown at me, put them in their place and where they belong. God what right did they think they had? Did they honestly believe that me, with You on my side, could be overthrown? I THINK NOT! Anyone who has You on their side, could not even be moved to the slightest tilt. Jesus, because of Your MIGHT, You will not be moved; not even touched. Shame on the wicked men who think they can cause me to stumble.
That’s exactly what this whole entire chapter was talking about.
These two verses I thought were the STRONGEST! They’re very powerful and descriptive when it comes to what the evil/wicked men do. Their so strong in their ways with tearing down people. However, they won’t tear down STRONG set children in God.
“3. They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips.” Selah
“4. Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.”
Protect me Jesus from the hurtful people out there in the world. Give me eyes to look out for the evil men ready to trip me.
I SHALL NOT BE SHAKEN.

4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
This verse really stood out to me this morning because I was reminded of how important it is to pray for protection from evil. We need to be on gaurd and aware that there are those who would like to trip us up. I know on HS campuses there are probably those people that are tempting you just waiting for you to fall. They are trying to trip you. I want to pray for the students of True North that you would be protected from those people who want to trip you. I pray that as we are studying in 1 Peter you will stand firm in the faith, and that you would not allow wicked men to surround you or be influenced by them. I pray that God would give you strong Godly friends that can stand with you in the moments when it looks as if wicked men are coming after you.
Psalms
1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
If we are truly on God’s side, and not as wicked as the people the Psalmist is describing, we should be doing 2 things: Praising His name, and living always before Him. That means worshiping God in every situation, and basing every decision on what God wants us to do, obeying His commands. The wicked have no respect for God, nor do they care about obeying Him in all that they do. If I don’t want to be one of the wicked people described in this Psalm, I need to take refuge in the Lord: praising and obeying Him always.
The Psalmist is confident in the protection from the Lord that He will receive because He is “righteous”.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
Like Beth and Elise mentioned, if we are truly living as God fearing individuals, as people who are righteous and holy we will be protected. Those living in the world, in their sin without grace, are not going to find their place of protection in the Lord and on that day of judgment they will stand in utter fear. But praise be to God that we in Christ have a refuge in Christ through the cross!
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
Notice the key distinction between the righteous and the wicked in the psalms. The reason that David can ask for God’s help is because he is righteous, he is doing what God has commanded him. The reason he asks for God to judge others is they are being wicked. We need to make sure that we can say we are righteous before God, in that we are seeking to be holy in everything we do (1 Peter 1:16 – Last week’s small group)
In this week’s small group we’re talking about one of the major motivations for righteousness: FEARING GOD! If we fear God’s judgment of the wicked (even as David describes it in this psalm) then we will stay righteous.
Proverbs 8:13 – To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Looking forward to discussing this more at SMALL GROUPS tonight! Let’s pray for a powerful discussion and try to bring a friend for this important topic!
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
One thing I can always count on is God always being there. He never leaves me or forsakes me. It says this many times in the Bible:
Deuteronomy 31:6
Deuteronomy 31:8
Joshua 1:5
Hebrews 13:5
God has NEVER gone back on His word and He never will. So I have that courage that God is there for me.
But I should NEVER put myself in situations were I test God. I should never jump off a cliff and expect God to have me land without dying. For we are not to test God. We need to FEAR God and again not test Him. He can do anything.
“SO be afraid, be very afraid” :]
Looking foward to small groups tonight.
GO CHRISTIAN/PRIVATE SCHOOL SMALL GROUP!!!
***Fearing the LORD!***
O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
Even though David was a strong soldier & powerful king, he’s still brought to his knees by circumstances in his life, and the only thing he can do is call upon the all-powerful God. The cause & effect relationship is telling, too: BECAUSE YHWH is Dave’s God, Dave CAN cry to him for mercy. If YHWH isn’t Dave’s God, what “right” does Dave have to call on him? Often times, this is the only thing that we, too, can do in the face of catastrophe or personal crisis–cry out to the God who saves us!
David shows again in this Psalm that he is all about trusting God. He trusts God to take care of his enemies. Instead of turning to his own intuition and reasoning or to other people for cousel, he turns first to God. I would love God to cultivate that in me. More of Him and his power and less of my own.
Apparently my comment this morning didn’t work…alright! well I commented on verse 9 on how that actually applies to me and my tongue…I need to keep a tight hold on it so that my brother stops copying the words that I say…being an example…es muy bien. annnnnnd I commented on evangelism and how it’s what God calls us to do….amen!
David is continuing to cry out to God in this psalm to be saved from his enemies. He sets a great example of trusting whole heartedly in God to protect him and to bring punishment to his enemies. He also sets a great example of making sure that God gets all the praise by praying that the wicked do not become proud. This is a great trust that I pray I can have instead of trying to do things my own way.
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
This verse shows me that it is not going to be easy to be a christian because evil men do not like christians and stir up war every day. I need to be ready to go to war every day by putting on my spiritual armor and reading the Bible every day. We will face trials but I need to have joy in them. God is good and has a plan I should put my trust in his plan not my plan.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
All the people of this world don’t understand us… They are wicked, haven’t received the holy spirit to guide them, and are living for the here and now instead of eternity. So, they want to bring us down with them or “trip our feet”! This verse is such a good prayer because each and everyday i encounter many of these kinds of people and I NEED the Lord’s protection!
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
I love this verse because it reiterates to me how JUST God is!! He will make all things right in the end and for those of us who are on God’s team, that will be a victorious day!!!!
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
I love David’s dependency through prayer!! “You are my God” is a powerful statement!! He recognizes the need to address Him as the highest authority in heaven and on earth, and he sees God as his sustainer. I need to be praying more often throughout the day like David!!
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
It is so encouraging to know that now matter what, that God is going to protect and sustain His people. There are so many people in this world who will try to attack our walk with the Lord. We need to be praying that God will deliver and rescue us from those circumstances. He alone can keep us spiritually safe.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
5 Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. Selah
while we may not be going through the struggles that david went through or was going through when he wrote this psalm, today we still go through trials. as Christians we are promised persecution (2 Timothy 3:12, and we will be tempted all the time. but God is faithful (1 Corinthians 10:13) and He will always provide a way for us to resist the temptation. as david focuses on God to deliver him from the snares and traps, so i too should rely on God to defend and protect me.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
This verse reminded me that as Christians, we will have a lot of persecution in our lives. We stand out and people notice that. When you share the gospel and shine for Jesus, a lot of people will turn you down, not wanting to feel that conviction. There is so much wickedness in this world it just breaks my heart. So we need to put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11) every day and pray that he protects us from the evil one.
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
This verse just kinda reminded me that we have a salvation in the LORD that can not be taken from us, and that is really cool. It also reminded me that the people who are powerful here on earth will not always have that power, and that the weak will be lifted up. Just thought that was cool.
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
There have been times in my life when people went out to get me. Being a Christian at Mission Viejo High School can get pretty rough sometimes. There isnt too much of verbal persecution, but there is alot of evil students out there who try to destroy my reputation or just get me into trouble because they dont like me. Sometimes I think this verse would be a good prayer.
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
I like this verse becasue we need to call upon the Lord when we are in danger, and we can’t just rely on ourselves to do whatever it is that needs to be done.
Just thought I’d stop in to say . . . TOTALLY STOKED FOR BAPTISM CLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!! *Woot Woot!* And also to GET BAPTIZED!!!!! Yeah, praise Jesus. God bless everybody else.
KEEP UP THE POSTING!
=) ~ Ariana Mishreki ~ =)
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
These verses are great. God see those who are poor and needy, yet theyre hearts are set to please him! Those who find delight in worldly pleasures, they are not God’s children. I need to know that God will “secure” and “uphold” me if I find my joy and delight in striving to be righteous in front of him, rather than in worldly things. Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” We should have a HUNGER to be righteous and a THIRST to be completely holy in God’s eyes!! If we have this hunger and thirst and we yearn to be perfect and spotless as Jesus was and is, then we will live before God! This is exciting!! So I should be striving to live a holy life because, 1) As Christians we are called to be set apart and strive for righteousness 2) It pleases God for us to be seperate as He is.. and 3) We will be with CHRIST in HEAVEN one day!!!!
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet
Lord deliever me from the wickedness of this sinful lord and guide me on your path towards You Lord I pray that i will not fall off the path and keep my eyes on you always lord. Thank you for all you do.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
The people of this world are always going to try and get us to fall in to sin and they are also always going to persecute to. I pray that the Lord would keep me away from all the wicked and evil of this world just as the psalmist asked the Lord to do here. I do not want to conform to this world and be like them.
8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah
When wicked people succeed at doing what they want and living for the world, they think that they can cheat God and do whatever they want. I see people do bad things all the time (cursing, telling bad jokes, etc) and I dont do anything about it. i need to stand up to this more often so that those people dont get proud and fall deeper into sin. This could also help my own walk with the Lord. This goes along with the discussion last week about keeping yourself holy. I may not be able to change people, but if i can have some effect on other people’s attitude, that will get rid of some of the bad influence causing me to do wrong.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
The Lord says to rejoice when we are persecuted. I know that I would like to be protected from unbelievers that reject and persecute me. We also need to express our faith through our actions, so that people know we follow Jesus.
We also need to evangelize to these people. They are lost and need help, and how cool would it be to bring one of them out of the darkness.
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
This whole verse summarized how it is God’s job to take revenge. It is quite hard sometimes to go through high school with people slandering you about how you may be a Jesus Freak but we are commanded not to do anything back. This verse PRAISES God for the fact that he is holy and just and will give back all the wicked deserve. I like verse 13 because even though it is hard, we need to pray that we wont stop standing and not give into the fact that our flesh wants to fight back.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
People like Saul planned to kill David. I think that what’s David is meaning when he says “protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.” David was being tracked down by Saul because Saul knew that David was going to end his reign as king and then succeed over him.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
I think this great prayer I should pray every day. Protection. Given the reassurance of Gods protection will help me speak more boldly about the gospel!!
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
I like this verse because it tells us what kinds of people will get to see God someday in heaven. Even if you say you are a Christian you still have to be righteous and upright or else you are not actually a Christian.
All I know about this is that God will keep me safe from evil, and that I must repell evil away and not give in to evil. And then I will praise his name for he kept me safe.
11 Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.
This psalm reminds me of Pastor Bobby’s sermon from this last weekend (and our topic for small groups tonight). People who persist in sins will be disciplined by God. As saved people (those of us who are Christians) we need to be sure not to be characterized by sin. We should never be known (by people or by God) as a habitual slanderer or person of violence. We need to fight sin and temptation in our lives as we fear the Lord.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
This verse really stood out to me because as a high schooler, there are so many people on campus doing bad things and trying to get others to do them or help them sin. Especially those who know I am a Christian and those I have talked to, watch what I do so closely and try to “trip my feet.” I experienced that just last week! The Lord, though, is faithful and I pray to Him that He will protect me from the wicked, and also it is so encouraging to know that God always provides a way out of temptation! It is also encouraging having a strong support and encouraging group of Chrisitans at school who help a lot.
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
I pray that the Lord would rescue us from evil men. Without the Lord, it would be impossible to overcome the temptations of the world, but with the Lord, all things are possible (Philippians 4:13). The Lord will rescue us from this evil world but we have to trust in him and MAKE WAR AGAINST SIN!!!
This chapter was great!! This chapter was talking about the people of this world and how they are decieving and violent!!! This is such a great verse that tells me what the world is like!! Reading this has opened my eyes to seeing that the Lord has helped and rescude me from the evil in the world!
3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips. Selah
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
The Lord knows all the things we need. He will always take care of us, even when we assume we are taking care of ourselves, it is really God who provides us with everything. And because of this (and many other things) we need to live always for him. We need to praise his name. And let’s not do these things for the praises of men, but for the glory of God.
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
AMEN! MARANATHA!
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
Keep me away from temptation, but also knowing when there is, you will always provide a way out
11 Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.
…
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
Everyday, in all my classes, I hear people talking badly (using the Lord’s name in vain, coarse jokes, gossip) and before, it would bother me but I would let it slide. I pray (and if you could pray for me also it would be greatly appreciated) that I would be living for God, truly living in fear of His judgement, and not fearing men so that I could go out and be a light to this world and to stand up for God and His name by telling them (in a loving way of corse <3) that if they keep talking like that, they will be judged and feel God’s wrath for their sins but they have a chance of forgiveness by repentance and faith.
Matthew 10:28 – “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Matthew 10:16 – “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
this is intesnse, the psalmist is such a stranger to the world that he begs to be taken away from the citezens of the world. This is alot of how I feel, there is so much sin around me that it feels unbarable. I can’t stand it! When people attack my God I feel sick. but even feeling that way I don’t stand up and tell them to stop! This amazes and embarreses me. I need to stand up for my Lord in ALL situations.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
We talked about fearing God tonight in small groups. Part of fearing God is to STOP SINNING! That is living upright before God. I want my list of sin that I have to talk to God about to be a short as possible!

1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence, 2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.—This is what I am asking God right now, not just for men who make evil plans against me but also the people who I am around at school are just not doing the right things and their plans are just horrible and the total opposite of what a Christian should be doing! I am asking the LORD to keep me away from those people and that I can surround myself with the right people who lift me up! I have noticed that as I am growing stronger in my faith, that I have so much more of a desire to hang out with my Christian friends who are there to encorage me! I am so thankful for those people because I do not know where I would be in a huge school with barely anyone who knows of Jesus is! I am praying that I can make war against any sin that may be an obstacle to me and just to be able to conquer it!! I also pray that if I do ever talk to those evil people that I am evangelizing! I need to show them God’s love and that I care about where they are going when they die and so that is why I need to evangelize!!
MARANATHA!!!
aliso/dana small groups was leggitt!! LIVING WITH THEOPHOBIA!!
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
Our God is a just God, He is the perfect judge. He needs no jury to make a verdict. He will punish His children on earth for our sin. He will punish non-Christians with eternal condemnation in Hell. We need to not judge others because God is just. They will be held accountable for their own actions.
I need to praise God daily for being just through prayer. Also, not getting angry when someone gets away with sin or doing something bad or wrong. I can be assured that God will judge everyone according to their deeds and I am responsible for my own actions. Through my own actions I need to obey God and be more like Him so I wont be punished for my sin here on earth.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
Despite the persecution that the Psalmist is enduring during this time, he emphasizes praising the Lord in this final verse. I’m not sure my immediate response in the phase of persecution and hardships would be thanksgiving. Tonight at small groups we talked about being thankful for the precious blood of Christ. I pray that in times of persucution, I would remember the mercy of Christ, which would lead me to praise Him.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
I love this! It is so hard being a a school where the things of this world are the priority in kids lives. Everyday there are temptations and there is choice to either fall into sin or overcome sin and stand out as different it such a worldly place. This verse is so encouraging and a great reminder for christians to call to the Lord for help. Being at school surrounded by the children of the devil is a hard thing. It is definitely not easy feeling lonely or choosing to be different from the world, but the Lord shed his blood for me and I want to obey him and thank him for covering my sins. Lord I want to go to you and ask for protection against the wicked, and I ask for strength to persevere through the temptations of this world.
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
This verse is so true. we need to pray that god would rescue us from satans evil ways. that god would protect us from violent people and evil men. to stay away from temptation and sin
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
Because I have my trust in Him, I know that the LORD will always hear my cry for help, my cry for mercy. He will get me through every situation, no matter how hopeless it may seem. The Word of God is so encouraging, and that is why it is so important that I stay in it everyday. Praise the LORD, his love and mercy are overflowing!
MARANATHA!!!!
PRAYING FOR FALL FEST!!!
1. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
This psalmist displays a sincere trust in the Lord. He is really depending on God to preserve him from trouble. I should show this same trust in God. So many times, I worry about what will happen tomorrow, or what might happen. I should put my complete trust in Jesus.
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
Here on earth, bad things happen to “good” people. That’s not easy to understand for unbelievers, but for Christians- we know its all in God’s hands. And as this verse says, the LORD is the one securing justice, not us. Its not up to us to take revenge on people or ignore those who ignore us. We should treat even our enemies with love and kindness…which is so crazy and absurd in this world there is no way to understand except that we are completely different creations in Christ! We have the Holy Spirit living within us, and we don’t have to live like the world does any longer. AMAZING.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
Praise God that He does hear our cries for mercy! This verse reminds me that I need to have faith that God hears me when I pray and responds in mercy when I repent and confess my sin. Awesome!!!!
12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
This psalm is intense, praying for coals to fall on people’s heads! God is not pleased with the wicked and one day their time is up and he will judge them and be 100% right and perfect in his justice. This definitely keeps “fearing God” at the front of my mind . If God is against and going to judge the wicked I don’t want to do anything “wicked”. I want to pursue the holiness that he has called us to (1 Peter 1:16).
9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.
10 Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.
These verses reminded me of Hebrews 10:26-31, in which we are warned about the dangers of continuing in sin. it is so sad to watch people who think they are Christians, or who have been repeatedly confronted with the gospel, to live as though it had no impact on their lives. Such people claim that we as true Christians are intolerant or judgmental, but in reality our discussions with them should be motivated by love, and a desire to see them escape the fires of Hell. I need to be more bold in taking advantage of every such opportunity with kids at my school, pleading with them on God’s behalf not out of a desire to win an argument or be right, but a desire to see God change their heart.
1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,
after reading this verse i kinda went on a bunnytrail and started thinking about how we could be the people that r leading others astray by being evil. my actions can be seen by others, and because i am a christian i am representing Him now and everything i do is for Him so i need to be striving to be asmuch like Him as i can to best represent Him
4 “Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.”
This and the surrounding verses made me think of one of the sermons pastor Mike preached at REVIVAL 09, where one of his points was that the “other team” is against us. If we’re really on God’s team (saved) and are standing up for what is right, most of the world (Satan’s team) is ultimately against us and will give us opposition. David, here, is asking God for protection and deliverance from evil men, because he not only knows that opposition is coming and realizes that life isn’t going to be easy, but also because he’s actually experiencing some. I, likewise, should be following the Lord–running the opposite way, fighting against the current–, ready for anything, and relying on Him.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
These are all such great verses. It reminded me of those times when the worst people at your school or just bad people you know have like the best things going on in their lives, while your going through a really big trial or things just arent going right for you. It reminds me of that and how we can know that we will be the ones who are in Heaven praising God. I like verse 13 because the righteous will be praising God’s name here and in heaven and we will live before the Lord. This shows me how we should be evangelizing to others because part of praising and standing before the Lord is telling others about Him and His gospel. I need to work on this and this verse helped show me that. (:
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
A ton of these psalms are about how men keep trying to lay traps and make David stumble. I’m sure that he must have faced a lot of temptation and persecution back in the day; many of the psalms even talk about how people were trying to kill him. But an important thing that David always does no matter the circumstance is cry out to God for deliverance. We might not have specific people right now that hate us or are trying to make us fall, but as Christians, the entire world system is set against us. We are forced to face tons of temptations everyday, and each one is being used to try and make us stumble and be weak Christians. If I’m facing temptation like this everyday, I should be praying to God everyday for deliverance. But sadly, I can sometimes go many days without specifically asking God for help against temptation. This is like suicide because temptation is so strong out there- we need God’s power or we won’t be able to resist it. LORD, please help me to realize that temptation in the world is strong and that it is always trying to bring me down. Thank you though that your power is sufficient to overcome it. But if I am not trusting and depending on it, what is the point? Please help me no make sure that I am asking for deliverance from temptation daily so that I would be truly depending on you for deliverance and not myself- because only you have the power to keep us from falling.
