Psalm 132

The Lord Has Chosen Zion

A Song of Ascents.

132:1 Remember, O Lord, in David’s favor,
all the hardships he endured,
how he swore to the Lord
and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
“I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
we found it in the fields of Jaar.
“Let us go to his dwelling place;
let us worship at his footstool!”

Arise, O Lord, and go to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.

11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
shall sit on your throne.”

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
14 “This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
18 His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.” (ESV)

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

For everything I do, I want to please and obey God. Something I have gotten in the habit with are quiet times with the Lord. He is so holy and perfect that he deserves all praise! God is and should be on his footstool, in the right place. Nothing should be above him. He is king of kings and lord of lords! From reading this, I am going to work on having no distractions and focusing 100% on God!!!!

  2. DB 2010 says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

This verse is so great! We need to approach the Lord with worship, our hearts overflowing with praise to him. BUT, we can’t come to His holy place with sinful hearts.

That brings to mind Psalm 24:3-4:

“Who may ascend the hill of the LORD ? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false”

We cant be in sin, saying Jesus is Lord but not living like He is Lord, and then expect to worship His perfection!

Isaiah 1:11-16 shows another version of this, but here are just verses 15 & 16:

“When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong,”

  3. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like 4,”I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,”

I like this verse because it talks about putting GOD’s word before what we need. The writer said he would not sleep until he built the temple. GOD wanted a temple and so the man decided not to rest until the job was done. This sets an example to me to do everything with everything I’ve got for the LORD.

  4. Steffen Eriksen says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

This is dedication right here! This is talking about the construction of the temple for God. He has sworn a oath to God concerning this, that he will not go into his house or lie down in his bed, that he will not allow any sleep to his eyes, but that he would keep them awake, until he finds a dwelling place for the LORD Almighty, a place to build his temple. Do I ever have this kind of commitment in my life?? This is the attitude that I want to strive for. When I make a resolve to do something, not only should I follow through with it, but I should have the same intensity, like I will not go to sleep until this happens. And the Christian life is very much of a resolve against conforming and compromising! It is a flat out war against sin!!! I need to have this hunger and fire, this commitment in my life as I pursue holiness and sanctification and make war against sin. I am an alien and stranger here on earth, and that always needs to be evident in my life, that I am making a radical stand against conformity!!

  5. sickly B making a comeback only because of the Lord..YA! :D says:

I’m lovin this chapter! And Brooke Brooke, it is so encouraging to have seen you grow soooo much just over this past year. :) It brings a tear! God is working on You for sure!!!! Keep it up! :D So What I noticed about this chapter is David won’t do ANYTHING unless he acknowledges who God is first and does his quiet time…perfect. I loved David’s passion to really get to know God and to see what the Lord wants him to do. Lord I would loooooove for you to give me passion. Lord I asked last week for more trials that I may persevere and grow in my faith…this week you gave that to me. Now Lord I ask of You to give me more passion for You, that all I’ll want to do is read Your Word and focus on what it says. :) Thank you for life Jesus.

  6. Boyd Jorden says:

    Nice comment DB.

I like the contrast between verse 9:
May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy.

    and verse 18:
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown on his head will be resplendent.

Because of my faith in Jesus Christ I can look forward to the day when I will be “resplendent” in my perfection, but until that day I need to think about how I’m clothing myself here in the world. As we talked about in our small groups last night, my aim as a believer should be to clothe myself in righteousness–to pursue holiness. When I can come before the Lord and honestly say that I am pursuing righteousness, then I can sing to Him with pure, authentic joy. To give in to the temptations of the world is to clothe myself in shame. I can’t have a pattern of ongoing sin in my life and then expect God to be OK with that. That’s duplicity. These verses are a great reminder this morning for me to go about the rest of my day and week seeking ways I can live a more holy life that is pleasing to Him.

  7. Beth Lauder posting from deep in the heart of Texas says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne- 12 if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”

God is perfectly faithful. He swore an oath that David’s kin would succeed him on the throne as long as his sons lived lives of obedience to God’s commands. This verse stood out to me because there are so many rich promises for God’s kids in Scripture, and God is always faithful to delier on them. The problem lies with us and our sin. If we choose to disobey God and live lives that do not submit to His commands then we will fall outside of His promised blessings. I am committed to keeping up my end of the bargain with God. He sent Jesus to die the death that I deserved for my sins, so I must live a life of grateful obedience if I want to be blessed by the Lord. Let’s all be committed to being faithful to obey God’s commands because we know if we do He will be faithful to bless us.

  8. Victoria says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

verse 4 and 5 i like a lot beacause I NEED to find time in my day to spend with the Lord. i spend so much time with other people around me, but not any or not enough with the one that truly matters. I need to worship the Lord at His feet…get down on my knees and pray, giving him the time he deserves.

  9. Mady says:

Psalm 132:3-5 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed- I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, till I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

David was willing to sacrifice his own sleep for God!! wow! He wouldnt sleep until he found a place for the Lord to dwell. I need to have this attitude, but with God’s word. I should have a hunger for it, and be in it continually, throughout the whole day. Even if I have to sacrifice something to be in it more, then thats what its going to have to take. Its time to step it up for God!!!!

  10. Brennan says:

I love David’s heart and the way he is committed to build the temple but now as we as christians are the church God dwells in us.

  11. ELLA says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Once I find a place for the LOrd, there will be no distractions, no slumber. I will pray to Him with all I got. Nothing should hold me back and nothing can hold me back from God. I will be there for the Lord when He needs me.

  12. katie baxter says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I love these verses! God should always come first, no matter how tired or whatever we are. I love how verse 5 says “find a place for the Lord.” Its so easy to put off reading the bible until night, and then its even easier to just go to bed and forget about it. I need to remember to always find time for God everyday, cause he should be my first priority.

  13. Ben Blakey says:

9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy.”
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will ever sing for joy.

A couple themes that run throughout these Psalms of Ascents are worship and God’s temple. These Psalms were probably actually read/recited by the ancient Israelites as they went to the temple to worship.

In this theme of worship, both of these verses (9 & 16, above) talk about singing for joy, and the whole of these Psalms of Ascents gives the idea that worshiping the Lord is an exciting, happy thing. Is this always the way I feel when I am singing praises to the Lord? When I am leading, am I getting distracted by something instead of focusing on the Lord and being joyful? When I am singing in church, am I concerned about what other people are doing around me, or am I lost in the glory of God so that I cannot help but express my joy in who God is and what he’s done for me?

    Goodmorning . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 132 . . .

“4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,”

I pray that I would be like this verse. That when I read the bible and when I pray, that I wouldn’t do it half asleep. But instead that when I wake up in the morning, that I’d be on —-FIRE—- to read God’s word. His word, full of wisdom and knowledge, is right at my fingertips. So why would I NOT read God’s word? It’s right there set before me. I should wake up, EYES WIDE OPEN, and soak up all the knowlege possible and naw on the FEAST set before my eyes. It’s a privilage to have a bible, let alone read it.

——EVERY MORNING I SHOULD FEAST MY EYES UPON SOMETHING NEW!——

  15. 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

This verse stood out to me because of the faithfulness of God displayed in it…God swore an oath, a SURE oath. That is such an amazing reminder of the faithfulness of our Father in heaven; the things He promised to fulfill we can be sure He will. How blessed it is to be the daughter of a King who always keeps His promises!

  16. payton :D says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Such devotion. I need to be more dedicated to the Lord than I am. I need to do all things for Him and I need to tell Him everything and not hold anything back. He is my best friend and deserves to know everything. God is amazing and His gospel needs to be spread to the ends of the earth. :]

    ***Praise the Lord!!!***

  17. Shane McCuistion 2010 from SVCS says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

This is something we should really be looking forward to. As Christians we should be all about bringing glory to God and doing what he has told us in the Bible. The biggest thing we should be looking forward to is HEAVEN!!!!! We need to be excited for the Lords second coming!! All Christians should be going out and telling others about the Lord’s second coming so that they will be ready when He does come!!! I am really looking foward to the day I enter God’s Kingdom. The 1st thing that I want to do is worship Him with millions of other people. I always think how cool it is when we are playing worship at True North and then just all the instruments stop and all you can here is everybody just singing You are Holy, great and mighty, the moon and the stars, declare who you are!!!! That is so awesome when that happens and I really want to experience that in Heaven with millions of ppl really crying that out from their heart. It would be awesome!!! MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

I love this verse. It make me think of having a MARANATHA!!!! mindset. I should be thinking and praying for the day that I can worship at God’s footstool. I need to be meditating on this verse all day.

  19. Lucas Garcia says:

    i really like this scripture

  20. Austin says:

This makes me think, David, I need to have him as a spiritual role model. This psalm talks very highly of him, but it also talks about Gods promises to him. Glory be to God.

  21. Sarah G.! says:

verse 9…may your saints sing for joy.”
verse 16…and her saints will ever sing for joy.

I noticed the second part of verse nine first…and later I realized that it was repeated in verse 16!! I can’t wait for that day when we all reach His kingdom and forever sing with joy and gladness, worshipping God in His holy presence!! Like we were talking about at small groups yesterday, holiness is something we need to strive for as if we are working to be holy when we “grow up” (thank you Haley Litz for that analogy!! ;D). Joy and holiness will last for eternity when we get to heaven so MARANATHA!! :D

  22. jacksondahl says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I need to work on this… A lot of times I’ll forget to pray before I go to sleep. The LORD needs to be before anything else in my life, at all times! I must make sure he gets plenty of time before I give my time to anything else!

    MARANATHA!!!!

  23. christopheriksen says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Its cool to see how much David wanted to see God glorified that He was willing to give up sleep trying to find a place of worship for God, even if he ended up not even building the temple himself. David had such devotion to God even though He didn’t even have the full picture- nowadays we know all about how Jesus Christ came and died on the cross for our salvation. I have so much more knowledge about how awesome God is in that way, so I should be seeking God’s glory even more. LORD, please help me to truly desire your glory above all else. Please help me to be devoted to seeing you praised by telling others about you and worshiping you all day long in words and actions, even if it means persecution or not being able to experience other stuff on earth because you are better than everything else.

  24. Murphy Danahy says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

This is kinda a cool verse. I know that sometimes I want to feel near to GOD so much that I’ll just fixate my mind on him, but David took this to a whole new level. Perhaps we should try this sometime.

  25. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

This Psalm was awesome and encouraging! I especially liked verse 11 because it really helps with trusting God, and knowing that He has everything planned. In this verse, we know that God promised that one of David’s descendants would still be on his throne. And there was! His son Solomon! So when I read this it really emphasized that God says what He He will do! I already know this, but when I am in an extereme nervousness situation, I will calm down and remember this verse as just on example on trusting God.

  26. Jessica K says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

This is an awesome verse because it reminds me of how I need to focus on God. Every time I worship God I should not be distracted by other things or people, but solely picturing Him and giving Him all the praise He deserves. Worshipping at God’s footstool is also important because God is above all things. We are to humble ourselves at His feet. I need to remember to put Him first always in my life & praise Him through both good & bad times.
David’s committment to the Lord is an inspiration and reminds me that God is always there & how worthy He is of our praise & attention. My sole purpose on this earth is to please Him.

  27. Shelby says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

This is so great because it shows such great commitment. I love how this is talking doing nothing until he finds a place to build the temple for God. I think that is such a great example of commitment that we should be showing in our lives.

  28. Mike says:

1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured.

Even in the midst of all the hardships and trials He went through, David’s devotion to the Lord was unwavering, as is shown by his resolution in the following verses not to even rest until he had found a location for the Temple of God. No matter what he was going through, David kept the Lord as a priority and did not let the things of this world take his focus off of the things that mattered. In the same way, I need to be committed to giving God the time and glory He deserves in my life, putting Him above all other desires and actions.

  29. David P. says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I like these verses because they let us know that we shouldn’t do anything before we worship and pray to God. They also let us know that nothing should go before the Lord, even something as important as sleep.

  30. bree siciliani says:

I love worshipping god and he is so good to me

  31. Criss Bonneau says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

This is what I am talking about. Such Dedication. Nothing should come before the Lord. Nothing.

  32. Cameron says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

this amazing passage talks about how Jesus is to come from the line of david, like 2 Samuel 7:13-14. what is amazing about the Bible is that the Lord actually came from the line of david! this prophecy was fulfilled literally in Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-37! the Lord swore an oath that He would put one of davids descendents on the throne, and He did! this gives me great confidence is so many of the things the Lord has promised me, like His answer to prayer according to His will, that He will never lose me or forsake me, that He will sanctifiy and glorify me, and that i will never be taken from His gracious and loving hand! praise God for His faithfulness and His promises!!!

  33. Eric Walker says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.

This is very similar to the verse I commented on yesterday and has the same, awesome and exciting theme. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait until the day that the Lord comes back and we see him. It is going to be SOOOO LEGIT! I pray that we all would have the maranatha mindset and always live our lives as if the Lord were coming at that moment. MARANATHA!!!!!

  34. Tristan Jorden says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I love the incredible dedication and undeniable submission to the Lord in these verses and they remind me how my obedience to Lord should precede my own worldly desires. For me, I need to put God first before myself–something that we discussed as an area of sin in small groups last night. Even though it’s easy to make an excuse of being tired or that I’ll get into the Word later, I should instead pray for strength and endurance to continue to make God my priority. And actually, I should read this psalm as a reminder.

  35. Angela :) says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

The Lord deserves our full attention and worship. I really just want to be more into the church and to worship the Lord more and more. The Lord is so perfect and holy and deserves my praise and all praise from everyone for what he has done for us. :)

  36. ۞۞Ŧŗɇɤϕŗ ђɵśᵮɵŗȡ ۞۞ says:

4 “I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids”

this is a great verse because it shows us how important the writer of this psalm thinks finding a place for the Lord is. We need to make God this important to us, he should not be an after though but something we need to do everyday and not sleep until we get to talk and learn about God

c u all at true north

  37. Wesley Wong says:

    Psalms 132:3-5
“I will not enter my house or go to my bed-I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids. till I find a place for the LORD a dwelling for the Might One of Jacob.”

These are the words of David. Be like David.
Make a place for God in your life.

What does it mean to make a place for God?
Simply making God number one priority in your life by glorifying Him in all you do.

    God Bless!!

  38. Elizabeth Holt, lover of our Lord Jesus Christ :D says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

The WAR against sin never stops! This verse spoke to me, it really jumped off the page. The psalmist says how he will never stop til he finds a place for the Lord. I want this to be my prayer as I enter the struggles of high school and the year/drama really picks up. I want to be like this psalmist who takes God seriously and ever strives for HIM.

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!

  39. Meisha Preston says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-
12 if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”

Jesus was the ultimate fulfillment of this promise. I’m reading Isaiah for my quiet time. In Isaiah 9 Isaiah is prophecying about the Messiah that was to be born. Isaiah 9:7 says, “Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” Jesus will reign forever. There will be no end to his rule! I am looking forward to that day even now.

  40. Austin Jones aka the lone mustang says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids.
5 till I find a place for the lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.

Wow, talk about putting God as a top priority! This is a perfect example of how we should prioritize God into our life. He should be the first thing we think about. Until we serve him we should do nothing else. We need to focus on making God our #1 priority and our lives shouldnt continue till he is served. What a great verse!

  41. Max says:

I’m so bummed that missed the LHHS campus lunch!! Being sick sucks. But god is healing me and i’m feeling much better!

Anyways, a lot of this chapter is talking about God’s promise that He would bring the messaih from David’s lineage. And that reminded me of when Bobby talked about how we have somehting that the angels and prophets don’t have. We can go and read the New Testament, we can know who Jesus was, we can experience salvation. How is amazing is it that we found what the psalmist was waiting for? It’s so awesome! God has blessed us so much just by allowing us to know what the old Testament people were waiting for! And the best part is that we can have salvation! Now that is amazing and God deserves all the praise and glory for that.

  42. Jasmine Wonton :) says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Wow! I really really like to sleep alot but David is willing to sacrifice his sleep and rest to find a place for God. Sometimes when I’m too tired or when it’s late at night, I put off reading the Bible and say I’ll do it tomorrow but this verse makes me rethink my priorities. I need to put the Lord over everything including my sleep. It’s interesting to see how the enemy can let “little things” like sleep take me away from God. I can’t think that I can do what I want with my time- my time belongs to the Lord only and I need to use it wisely. I’m going to follow David’s example and won’t allow any sleep until I find a place for God! Capo’s campus lunch is tomorrow. praying =]

  43. Spencer Camp says:

This is a great chapter! Very interesting…

This psalm shows David’s deep desire to build a place on earth for the Lord, in which the people could worship him at His footstool. The psalmist writes in an interesting way. First he recalls David’s admirable devotion and the promise God made to David, that forever, as long as Israel obeys God’s decrees, an heir will be on the throne of Israel.

Something I noticed is that the psalmist recalls God’s promise and then expects Him to follow through. This may sound simple, but he believed God at his word and expected results. That’s great! I want the same for me: to believe God’s word, that it is more blessed to give than receive, or if I seek him I will be given all other things, because that is true faith! I want to trust God and not think it too great for God to fulfill his promises.

David’s devotion to God, even forsaking sleep, also amazed me! I desire to put God’s will before mine even if I have to lose sleep over it!

  44. Melissa Cox says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

The LORD did what He said…placed many of David’s descendants on the throne. He also gave David the ultimate King for a descendant–Christ Himself! I’m thankful for a God who keeps His promises. I’m also thankful that He sent Jesus as a descendant of David to save me!

  45. Katie Slusher says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

David was committed to finding a place where the Lord could be worshipped and sacrifices personal comforts to make it happen. Sometimes when I know I need to do something I make excuses and put it off. David didn’t rest until he found a dwelling place for the Lord. I’m reminded of James 4:17, “Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.” I need to recognize that my procrastination and excuses are sin. I pray that I will follow David’s example of sacrificial obedience!

  46. AL∑C™ 2010 says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Wow what a motivational and encouraging verse. this shows me how I should be constantly calling on the lord. its almost like the song, “strength will rise as we wait upon the lord, as we wait upon the Lord…”

  47. Zach V says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool

Thinking about how we can worship and communicate to God shows his mercy. As a Christian it is possible to talk directly to God, and to worship God directly. Praying to God is the closest we will get to heaven on Earth. This verse just makes me want to pray to God and worship Him.

  48. Bryce Nilsson:) says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

Like Jeff, this verse Helps me have a maranatha mindset. I know that I need to focus more on Gods will and the purpose he put me here on this earth. Worship and praise him, and telling others to do the same.
    Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. Austin Payne 2010 says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

This kinda makes me think of Heaven. Heaven is where we’ll be in His dwelling place forever and have nothing to hold us back from Worshipping and singing Praises to God. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. Josh Larson says:

1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured. we need to strive to be like david and overcoming many trials. we also need to b like him by being a man after Gods own heart. i need to work on living totally 4 God and being a man after his own heart!

  51. John Karlsson says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.

This gives me the picture of how it will be in heaven. We will be in his dwelling in his sanctuary worshipping him and bowing before the throne. I love the picture of worshiping at God’s footstool as he sits on the throne in all glory and honor. Our eyes will be completely fixed on him nothing will distract us from bowing and worshipping at his throne in heaven.

  52. Gabriel Voris 2010 says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

As Cameron already pointed out, the Lord later met His promise in the New Testament. This just goes to show us that the Lord is always faithful and never revokes any oaths that He creates. It just makes me feel so good to know that worship a faithful and loving God.

  53. emily mayers :) says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

This inspires me not only to spend time and praise the Lord before I go to sleep but all throughout my day… I should be constantly “finding a place for the Lord” in my heart and making sure He is taking up ALL that space!!

and I agree with Jeff… MARANATHA!!!

  54. Natalie Cannavo says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

David is such an inspiration! He is committing himself to the LORD and to his Word.
I like what Emily said about making sure God is taking up all that space constantly.
I want to live God. I want my life to represent Him and I want to be so for Him that I am like David… that I will not sleep till I praise the LORD and find in my heart a dwelling place for Him!

  55. kelly causky says:

This past week I have been so revived to learn so much about the Bible and about God. I now have like a million books that I want to read (including the Bible, of course). This also made me think that this is the way I should be all the time: fervent to study the Bible and learn more and more. I should not just get excited briefly and at random intervals, but all the time! Serve God always!

  56. Dustin Arbuckle I says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

This is definately an encouraging verse. David made a vow and he was dedicated to it. David stuck with his vow because he feared the Lord. We should have such a Love for God that we fear even the slightest bit of disobedience towards him

  57. P.J. says:

Verses 3-5 say, “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I really need to possess this mindset when it comes to reading and studying God’s Word! It reminded me of the verse on laziness in Proverbs 6; verses 10 and 11 say this, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.” If I continually have the attitude where I put off Bible reading till way off at night, then “poverty will come on” me and I will stray from the narrow path. Instead I need to re-prioritize my activities so that I can maximize my time in the Word. I resolve to allow no slumber to my eyelids until I’ve read God’s Word!

    Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!!

“I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”!

  58. ShAnNoN TwEeD!!! says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids.
5 till I find a place for the lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.

This guy is seriously on FIRE for Christ there is no question to which team he is on! He puts God as 1st priority and is a great motivation for me to remember that i need to be in the Lord everyday with every word spoken and every deed done i need to make sure there is ‘a place for the lord” in it all!

  59. Jasmine Douglas says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

This verse is a great reminder that God will always keep his promises! He stays true to his word! And when you need wisdom or guidance, pray and open up your bible! After all, it’s God’s word, it’s God-breathed! I am so thankful to have such an amazing and trustworthy father in heaven that I can always count on and always run to, no matter what the circumstance.

  60. Luke Melrose!!!!!!!!!!! says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool

How many times does the Bible have to say “lets worship God” before we actually start doing it! We need to LIVE for His glory. We not only worship at church, but everyday, through the way we live. I love giving God worship….and its sad to think that sometimes God doesnt get as much as He deserves.

  61. Mark says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

We need to be worshiping 24/7 to God!!! Every moment of our days should always be centered around christ and God deserves all the glory for everything we do!!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Never Take David Personal says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.

It is exciting to see people excited to worship God! It is really cool when you think back at the differences of Old and New Testament worship. Back in the day, men had to go to the temple (or back in the day day, tabernacle) to be close to God and worship. The cool thing about now is the fact that we have the Holy Spirit. Now if we see OT peeps getting all excited to go to House of God and worship how much more excited should we be to worship Him everyday and eventually worship him in his true home…Worshiping God in the thrown room, falling facedown as his glory shines around!

  63. Evan McKee says:

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-

It’s so great that God never breaks his promises. we can be sure of what will happen because he told us what would. It’s amazing that God is holy and loving and won’t break his promises instead of entirely self serving which is what I would expect a human to be if they were God.

  64. Ian H. says:

3 ‘ “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.” ‘

Now there’s diligence and commitment. Apparently David swore not to rest until he found a dwelling place for God (I’m thinking it means a temple here). That’s pretty serious. It seems like he was almost desperate to “find a place for the LORD”.
Two practical things come to mind for me: to have that same kind of persistence and diligence in trusting in and following the Lord, and to strengthen the foundation of His “place” in my life. I want the Bible and prayer–having deep, quiet, focused times with God–to have a major place in my life; I want them to be the priority, the important thing to do. Lord, help me to be focused on you!

  65. Jordan Anderson says:

3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed-
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I want the fervor that David has in this psalm in my spiritual walk!

the Lord promises persecution, but he also promises to be just. Everything that happens is in His will, and His timing, and He works it out for His good.

  66. Morgan Sherman says:

Verses 4 “i will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber for my eyelids, and 5 till i find a place for the Lord” stood out to me.

So often I put off spending time in gods word just so I can sleep. But I remember from psalm 119 that David loved gods law so much he couldn’t stop reading it! I need to make sure that reading my bible is a priority before anything else!

  67. Allie Moorefield(: says:

4 “i will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber for my eyelids
5 till i find a place for the Lord”
These also stood out to me. Every night before i go to bed, i go on scripture of the day and write down my prayers in a journal. Sometimes, because i am so tired, I will rush through it just to say i did it because i want sleep and am tired. God needs to be what i want and God is the one who should be put first and should receive all my energy and time. God is a thousand times more important than sleep and rest!

14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it-

What a great verse! Heaven and God is our resting place FOREVER AND EVER. Because i desire it, here i will sit at the foot of God enthroned! What an amazing verse. We should ahve this attitude every single day about desiring Heaven and seeing the Lords face for the very first time! How amazing will that be!!! We can only imagine. (:

  68. The actual John Karlsson says:

f your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.

Well we all know what happened to the kings ( David’s descendants) of Israel right? They didn’t obey God’s laws and in fact God got rid of the kings in Israel. God is serious when it comes to his Word. Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through him. That is not good news for the Mormons, Muslims, Jehovah Witnesses. What we believe about Jesus Christ is a matter of life and death. Its a serious subject with consequences. I pray that I will keep God’s statutes because faith produces obedience and that fruit will bring Glory to God.

  69. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 132

10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one.

11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne—

17 “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.

So much predictive prophecy here in this psalm about the coming Christ. Christ is referred to as the anointed one who is to come from the line of Judah thru David. How awesome is God’s Word that it’s full of predictive prophecy like this about 900 years before the coming of Christ. God’s Word is perfect! When we read His Word we should thirst for more of its truth to spring out from its living water. Christ is the horn of our salvation as mentioned here in Luke 1:69. What an awesome Psalm!

Luke 1:69 69 He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David

  70. Haley Litz says:

7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-

I like this verse and the theme of woshipping God I have been seeing in the Psalms as I have been reading through them. God is so great and deserves all my praise no matter what! He deserves 100% from me and I want to praise Him and give Him my all!

  71. Sara L. says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Just like David, I need to put God’s agenda above my own needs. He should always be first on my mind. I pray that I will not be preoccupied with my things or things of this world, but instead with glorifying Him.

  72. Rebekah Foreman says:

4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,

5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob

This is amazing dedication to the Lord that I need to have. He doesn’t sleep for he wants the best place for the Lord. I pray that I will have dedication to the Lord like this.
