The Mustard Seed and the Leaven
31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”
33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
Prophecy and Parables
34 All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables;
I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” 37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, 42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
The Parable of the Hidden Treasure
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
The Parable of the Pearl of Great Value
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
The Parable of the Net
47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
New and Old Treasures
51 “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” 52 And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, 54 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” 58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief. (ESV)

Hey True North! I am psyched out of my mind for our Takeover this weekend at church! Stoked to see you there and double pumped up for our worship night tonight after the main service. We’ll hit up some In-N-Out and bounce back to the church for more praise!
Matthew 13:50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus was not afraid to talk about hell. He was not intimidated by what people would think of him. He wanted to warn people about it. I remember what it was like to know I was going to hell, the horrifying realization that I would spend eternity apart from God in darkness and fire.
BUT PRAISE GOD FOR HIS SALVATION THAT I AM NOT GOING THERE! I love it when people come to the Lord and you can see that look of relief, often times they are crying, because the huge burden of the weight of their sins and eternal punishment has been taken off of their shoulders! Instead of fearing hell they now know they are going to heaven because God has saved them. We need to make sure that we never forget how great our salvation is or take for granted the goodness of God. We should stay excited about this escape from hell in our souls and this excitement inside should overflow out of us as we praise the Lord in worship and proclaim his goodness to all!
Can you tell I am a little bit excited to preach this weekend?? See you at church!
32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
MMM, yes!It is so amazing how Jesus compares the amount of faith we need to start out with to a mustard seed. A mustard seed is the smallest of seeds, yet when it grows, it is a big tree and it bears room for birds to sit on it. Like the same seed, faith starts out small and new. Day by day it should grow and grow into a witness of a relationship with Christ that bears much fruit. It is so urgent to have faith, or else
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
DUN DUN DUNNN…yeah not so good. Bobby explained it well, and i do have to say that I am so glad I’m not gonna be there, but I know that other’s are. Therefore, it is our job to go out and make disciples!!!
MARANATHA!
I like the way Pastor Bobby put it. Again I just like this book of Matthew so far. I is great to think that Jesus said these words.
43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
I pray that all of us at True North can shine brightly and stand out in this world. I am so grateful to the one who saved and redeemed me. After hearing the gospel, I can’t just pretend that I never heard it but I have to really apply it to my life and walk as Jesus did. This reminds me of Philippians 2:15 and earlier in Matthew 5:16.
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Amen! All of my joy goes into storing up my treasure in heaven. Here it says that the man sold all that he had. Am I willing to give up all that I have for Jesus? I have to lay down myself and everything that I have to surrender it all to Him. But that’s not really alot. It might seem like it but God has blessed me with so much giving His one and only son to me and heaven. WOW! I want to put my entire joy in life into Him and His kingdom!
Looking forward and praying for True North Takeover! So stoked =]
MARANATHA!!!
Is bummed to be missing True North Takeover and Worship night, but will be praying and knows God is going to do GREAT things.
41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is describing Judgement Day. What really got me though is the phrase “they will weed out his kingdom” It is easy to think Oh yes the bad people will be punished those who are evil and sinful. Obviously there are people in this world that are evil and do really bad things and that is easy to see like a murder and such, but this passage describes that the good soil and the weeds are mixed together and know one will know until the appointed time and the angels will come sepperate the two. This is so scary to me becayse this is talking about those who are amongst the church that are weeds and there heart is full of sin. There is no way of seeing this from the outside but one day we will be judged and there will be a seperation of people who were amonmgst you that you thought were saved but they were not. Thats why it is so important that we are not just preaching the biblical gospel to the lost but to eachother also because you never know who you are talking to that really isn’t saved. There are so many people who call them self christians but have not repented of there sin and when God sees them there hearts are full of sin. I pray that we will all examine our hearts too see if we are in the faith and urge others that we know to do the same so that some day we. or those we know know and love are not burned up in the lake of fire.
2 Corinthians 13:5
5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
These are two analogies that Jesus gives when He is describing the kingdom of heaven to His disciples. The first one is like a man who finds hidden treasure in a field. Once he sees it, he reburies it and sells all that he has to but the field. He does this because he is all-encompassed with a burning desire for this treasure. And the second one is like it, dealing with pearls. A merchant is looking for pearls and find an amazingly beautiful one. He goes to sell everything that he owns and then comes back to buy it. This man to was so focused on getting what he wanted, the pearl, that he was willing to go and sell everything else that he owned. This is so much like the kingdom of heaven and Christianity. When a person gets saved, it’s just like finding the pearl or treasure, counting the cost, and paying the cost. The cost is to give up everything to follow Christ. And the reward of the pearl or the hidden treasure will come once they buy the field or but the pearl, and the reward for Christianity, though God still blesses us immensely here, will come with eternity in heaven to dwell in the presence of God without any sin. I need to be living with the same fanaticism that is carried by the treasure finder and the pearl merchant. They were so consumed with their prize that it was all that mattered to them. This needs to be the same with me, that I am all consumed with love and desire for Christ because He is all that matters to me. It needs to ring out by the way that I live my life that He is all that matters to me, that I am focused on receiving what I’ve been waiting for! Come O LORD! I need Kingdom Eyes as I live my life here, that I’m focusing on Christ’s return and not the things to gain in vain here on earth! I need to always live with the passion that nothing else matters but Christ, living for Him now and waiting for His return! MARANATHA!(12x)
ELLO… I read
I like verse 42,”They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
I like this verse because it talks about HELL. Its not that I like HELL but it kinda motivates me to preach the GOSPEL because that’s where a lot of people are going to end up and even though I may not like certain people I don’t want them to go to HELL. I need to remember when people get me angry not to get angry back at them but to set an example and repay their anger with the GOSPEL because if I get angry then I am acting just like the rest of the world and they won’t see GOD or HIS people as being any different.

9This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
Life is good and life is great and then you die and all of sudden your life have serious implications. We only have one chance to get right with God. That chance is available for as long as we are alive on this earth. God wants all sinners to come to repentance and faith. Unfortunately many choose to reject him. Others get caught up in all the distractions of the world. Others die at a young age full of life, yet never took God seriously because they were going to “live forever”. We have this life and this life only to get it right with God. I was just telling my cousin last night that what he decides about Jesus Christ will be the important decision of his life. Be praying for him as he will be reading 1 John to find out if he is even a Christian. Praise God for the opportunity to share the gospel with my cuz last night!!
56Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”
57And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.”
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
In JESUS’ hometown, there was a severe lack of faith. This amazes me because they had grown up with him, and should be the first to accept him. This also reminded me that the Jews knew of JESUS the longest but they rejected him.
It amazes me that Jesus is able to speak to the people using a series of parables. It seems as though for every question these people had, it was answered by a parable sent through Jesus by God. I feel so blessed to have someone like Pastor Bobby as well as Compass Bible Church to preach this parables to us on a weekly basis. Happy belated Thanks Giving!
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The Bible is very clear – there are only two options for how to spend eternity – heaven or hell. It is also clear about who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Only those who repent of their sins and place their trust in Christ will get the privilege of enjoying eternity in heaven with God. All the rest of humankind, those who worship other gods or who live for themselves on earth will be “thrown into the fiery furnace.” If we know this to be true, which we do, we must be sure that we evangelize all our friends and family members. I do not want any of the people I am close with to spend eternity weeping and gnashing their teeth. I have the power to share the gospel and that is what God calls me to do. It is not up to me to get my friends and family to repent, the Holy Spirit does that work. Please God, help me to be bold and courageous, sharing your Truth with others because I do not want anyone I know to spend eternity apart from you. Thank You, for calling me out of darkness and into the light of salvation. I am eternally grateful that I have heaven to look forward to someday.
Alicia, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSIGHT! That was a rad post. Glenn, you cracked me up with that shout out to our hyped TN’ers–that was awesome :)
This impacted me in a couple ways. But mostly, the biggest reminder I got out of this, is that I AM NOT GOD. I cannot PLAY God. I cannot MAKE ANYONE understand the Gospel. I cannot do anything, but obey what Jesus commands me to do as a disciple of His, no matter the result of it, whether it be persecution/decomposed reputation, seeming fruitlessness in my efforts and prayer, loss of relationships/alienation from loved ones caught in the world, loss of job, etc. It is MY job to plant seeds in obedience–it is the HOLY SPIRIT’S job to grow the seeds that are planted. And that is what I must be faithful to do: sow and pray, in Jesus’s holy and saving Name.
50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Amen Pastor Bobby! This verse is scary and is an intense description of what hell is going to be like. Looking back when I was not a Christian, I cannot believe how I thought everything was fine and that I was all good. I was headed down the path of destruction and to hell where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth! I praise God for my salvation, I am so blessed for it because I know what I deserve, and I am super thankful for the Lord and what he did on the cross! Now that I have assurance on heaven, I need to talk to others and share the good news with them, because I do not want to see my friends and family headed to this dreadful place!
46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
Great insight on this passage, Steffen! This merchant who found the pearl, like the man who found treasure in the field, was so excited and wanted it so much that he was willing to sell everything else he had so he could obtain it. This needs to be the way that view our salvation. The reason many people fall into sin, and eventually fall away from the faith, is because the things of this world start to become more important to them than the things of God. From an earthly point of view, it can be incredibly difficult to view spiritual things as being of more value than the things all around us. But we are repeatedly called in Scripture to raise our perspective, setting our hearts and minds on things above and not earthly things (Colossians 3:1-2). When we look at the big picture and contemplate the eternal implications of this life, it seems foolish to chase after the trivial things of this world and sacrifice eternal reward. This verse has made me more resolved to be completely “sold out” for Jesus Christ, eliminating anything in my life that comes anywhere close to taking priority over Him.
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
This verse makes it sound like the kingdom of heaven is WORTH IT! That’s because IT IS! Verses like this are so encouraging to me. Jesus says a lot of hard and extreme things like “deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me.” But it is verses like this one that remind us that following Christ (and denying ourselves) is worth it. In Christ, we have something so much more valuable than anything the world can provide. This is so helpful to think about in so many situations, whether I am discouraged, fighting temptation, or just getting excited to worship with the people of God tonight!
See you all at TRUE NORTH TAKEOVER!
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Agreed Steffen and Mike.
When one realizes the profound reality of their sins being forgiven and having their relationship with God restored through Christ, they can not help but be filled with joy. Sacrifice is something we willing and joyfully do for the one who sacrificed himself for us. Becoming a Christian is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It is so lame when I look back on a sacrifice with a bad attitude and feel like I missed out on something. Instead I need to joyfully sacrifice things for the One who sacrificed everything for me.
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
This verse stood out to me because it seemed so simple. Because of lack of faith in the LORD he did not do many miracles. This seems sad to me. I realize though that I have lack of faith and trust so many times and sometimes I don’t even realize it. If I am truly a believer I need to display faith in my life. I think this is a great verse for me to remember to put my trust in the Lord when it seems like everything else is failing. People are not always going to be trustworthy but I know the Lord is so I want to put all of my faith in Him.

Much of this chapter seems to be revolving around the same concept–only some will make it to heaven. From the parable of the tree, fisherman, and weeds, all make it abundantly clear that only some will qualify, and the rest will be thrown out.
To summarize,
v 49-50 “This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

The kingdom of heaven is worth everything! In all these different examples the people are willing to give up everything for the kingdom of heaven and they rejoice when they find it! I need to be willing to sacrifice everything for God because he is totally worth it!
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Fortunatly AND unfortunatly this time is coming soon. It is fortunate for we will be with our Father in heaven and we will worship Him forever. Unfortunatly not everyone is on their way towards eternal peace. We need to be spreading God’s word to all we can in these final days. It is important that we fear God more then men and do what He says.
the kingdom of heaven
I am excited to one day be in heaven and this chapter is a good reminder to live with faith today for that reality even when we can’t see it.
49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I have talked to a few people that are on the fence about Christianity, and the main thing i hear from them is “Why would a loving God throw us into hell?” Jesus says right here that it is because God must be just and he separates the good from the bad. In order for God to be God, he must have a perfect “garden”, and in order to have a perfect garden, he must throw out the “weeds.” God cannot be with sinners, so He sent His son Jesus to be our sacrifice and make it so that we can live with the Lord.

Hey guys, you should hit up Daily Bible Reading (DBR)! True North is taking it over!
Just click on my name!
31He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
33He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
There is a good theme in these parables: GROWTH. As Christians, we cannot just stay the way we are for our entire lives and just say, “Hey, I’m ok because I am better than most who call themselves Christians.” No. We need to GROW. And grow all the time because we want to stay standing and never fall away.
47″Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
I really liked how this parable describes Heaven and Christians, Just like the net people who think they are going to heaven are just caught up in something else that they mistake for faith, they think there going to heaven but they will find out that they lived for something other than God. They will be thrown back into the sea but unfortunately in the end for humans they will be cast into the pit of hell!
I need to check my heart daily so that even through all the hard times in this life that we are all going to experience I will know that i have faith and a personal relationship with Christ and NOBODY else is going to get in my way!!
40″As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I don’t see how I can put it any better than Pastor Bobby. Jesus doesn’t talk about hell like people do nowadays. Hell’s fire isn’t some illustration and metaphor, it is a real and frightening thing. I remember when I finally realized that I was heading towards hell. I had the worst feeling in the world. I talked and prayed about it and finally I gave my life up for God. Now, I don’t fear being thrown into hell but have the confidence in the work that Jesus has done being accredited to me. I’m getting all choked up writing about this. I’m just so thankful that we have such an awesome God that would send His own son to die for such a sinful man as me. Jesus Christ was tortured, ridiculed, spit on, and crucified so that an undeserving sinner like me receives the good and perfect gift of salvation. Wow!! That’s amazing. Now, I, being saved through Jesus Christ, must live a life that brings the glory to the one who deserves it: God. Jesus died for my sin; I’m saved from my sin. Why should I even want to sin? I should be wanting to do every and anything I can to make God pleased with my life. I want to give my life as a living sacrifice to God, one without blemish.
Thank you God for saving me from myself.
sorry, i re read this chapter and felt that there is more to say, it is just so good!
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
I feel that this verse is so much more serious than i take it when i read it. There are so many people in this world who are going to experience hell, and it is so sad to know that. So many of my loved ones (right now) have a bad future ahead of them if they dont follow Christ. I pray for more boldness and knowledge(which i will get from reading more of Gods word) so that i can speak to my athiest brother and sister. The Bible says that family members will turn against eachother because of Christ- and let me tell you, IT IS TRUE. So i pray that God will use me to continue spreading His love and Word to my family and the people of the world. I know i can do that with the help of the Lord. He is so faithful in deliverence. Marantha!
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
These verses stuck out to me because it is telling us that to get to heaven, we need to put every other goal behind it, and strive for that. Also that there is nothing better thank being in heaven with our creator.
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
This just made me think about how awesome God’s salvation is. I know that to be saved you have to deny yourself and follow Christ, but this verse just made me think about how that’s not just some thing that we have to do but instead an awesome opportunity to be extremely excited about. Salvation is so awesome and of such value that it is worth selling everything in order to have it. Some of these verses talk about how the children of Satan are going to be thrown into the fire but the children of God are going to shine like the sun. I am so blessed to one of God’s children. I really need to be spending more of my time praising God for my salvation because it is so much more precious than anything else.
38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40″As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
In the end those who have lived for God, will be with him and those who have been “weeds” will beripped from the Earth and be thrown into the fiery fernace, and suffer for all eternity. It makes you think of how you might choice to live your life for God than to live your life for the world. It makes you also think if you are on God’s team or are you on Satans team?!
48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
I am so glad that I am going to be one of the good fish that is collected. This verse make me have the MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!! mind set and want to tell all about judgement day.
43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Im Kyle if you were wondering, but ya cmon people…I was going through the comments looking what verse people commented on, but there was only one person who commented on this verse. But, I was just checking cuz look this verse is talking about us. If Jesus says something about my future in heaven I would want to hear every word that was said!
Is Jesus being literal here??????
I think he is, I think evidence to back that up is the Transfiguration! Our heavenly bodies will shine like the sun! That’s cool! I’m looking forward to a body that can’t die or feel pain or anything else that troubles me
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
This is a great parable of our lives now and Heaven. We have all heard the message of the Gospel so now we need to give up everything so that we can have the final prize/destination. I sometimes forget that i’m stiving for something better than right now
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
The Righteous have the Right to Shine. We have been redeemed in Christ and should tell the World. Go out into the World and be unashamed. Shine like lights on a hill
32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
the analogy of the mustard seed sto the way our faith starts out is so good. and how we grow little by little, but we do contantly grow
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
The righteous will shine how amazing. At the end it will be more than Christmas lights shining but a multitude of suns shining so bright along with the only awesome perfect amazing sun, God out Father. Lets shine now so we can shine even brighter later!!!
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
it’s crazy to think that we can’t know for sure who truly is saved and who is not. God knows and we will know when He comes back. but i want my life to be all about living for God and serving Him and sharing Him with other people, so there can be more people going up to heavan with God!!!
38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
This verse stuck out to me because it reminded me of a verse from yesterday (Matthew 13:29). It reminded me of this because Jesus uses the comparison of the wheat in the field but also because it reminds me when it says ‘bad company corrupts good moral’ If we are surrounding ourselves with non christians then they will most likely change us and not us change them. I pray that I would be surrounding myself with godly people so that I wouldn’t be tempted to compromise to the ways of the world.
Great Chapter today!!!!!!!
Exctied for True North Takeover!!!!!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Just like at Revival, there is God’s team and then there is Satan’s team. God’s team will live on for eternity and the world will be consumed by fire. I need to seperate myself from the world.
I am so stoked for true north united. !!!!!! I really like in the end of this chapter how Jesus gives all of the comparisons to things that we can easily put into our heads!!!!! I praise god that I am able too be one of the ones that will not be thrown away or into the fire!!!!!
31He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
I love reading Jesus’ wise parables! He is beyond brilliant. Even though I’ve never seen a tree that was once a mustard seed, I know it must be huge in comparison to what it once was. This is how much I should desire to grow in my faith. And the kingdom of heaven will be large beyond my imagination. I love Christ’s metahpors to explain things :) I am so thankful that He knows the answer to everything, and I realize that I should study and memorize his words more so that when nonbelievers ask me questions about the kingdom of Heaven or Christianity, I should be able to answer with confidence.
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
Great Scripture!
I know I need to walk by faith, bar none. Jesus did not show anyone any miracles because they did not have faith. I know I really need to show other people that I can and am walking by faith, not by having myself talk to other non Christians, but also have them notice me as a Christian and ask me about Christ.
48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
Like Jeff said, this verse gives me the MARANATHA mindset! When Jesus comes back to harvest the “good fish,” I want to be the one who goes with Jesus, not the one who is thrown away.
First of all, AWSOME CHAPTER!! I totally love this v49-50 is like at Revelation, cuz its a prophecy that hasnt happened yet..or has it?
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I remember last year @X-mas in the city, at the promenade, there was this speaker dude who proved that God existed through the Bible, and historical documents, and there was this guy wearing a skull shirt and he was all like, jesus doesnt exist! but after 10 minutes, he was losing and everyone who went to our church was cheering the speaker then after that we went back to the buses and went home. :)
50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
Wow this image of Hell is amazing. I am so glad I accepted Christ into my life because burning in a fiery furnance is not my type of life. I can’t image that but I can not wait to be in Heaven with Christ praising Him day in and day our at His feet.
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is a really scary verse because the bible makes it extremely clear what the two options for eternal life are. For me personally as a Christian it is exciting but makes me feel so bad for all the people who aren’t Christians and will have to endure never-ending punishment. Just to look at the words in verse 50 grabs my attention and forces me realize how real the words are and makes me want to live my live all our for Jesus. I am so excited for this day to come and actually see angels and God in Heaven! It will be so awesome!!
Mat 13:41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
Let’s tell our family and neighbors before it’s too late… Lord, please come soon.
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Just like pastor Bobby preached this evening, salvation is an amazing, exciting thing. As Jesus puts it in this parable, it’s like a man who finds a great “treasure hidden in a field”. He finds this treasure and in joy proceeds to sell every single thing he has just so that he can have it. That’s how overjoyed he was about it. It is the same thing with salvation: it’s the most incredible, wonderful, important thing to ever happen, and yet eventually my joy in it steadily decreases. I begin to lose my focus on Jesus and forget how awesome God’s gift is, when it really should be the thing I get most excited about. Lord, please give me excitement and joy in your amazing love demonstrated in salvation; keep me standing strong by constantly being immersed in your Word, prayer, and thinking about you; let your light shine through my life.
42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is what will happen to all those who do not accept christ, they have an eternity of pain and suffering. I don’t know about you but that is not what I want to do for eternity, but for those who do accept Christ they will spend eternity with God praisng and worshiping him, that’s what I want
We’re back in town!
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
It’s funny that Jesus doesn’t do many miracles BECAUSE of their lack of faith. Many people liked to follow Jesus for the magic show, but they didn’t have faith in his true identity–the Son of God, the long awaited Messiah. The point of miracles, OT & NT, is to point to God’s glory. Here, withoutthe people’s faith, God is not glorified, so the point of the miracles is moot, so to speak. When God works in my life, I want to be sure that it strengthens my faith & doesn’t allow it to become complacent.
42. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Wow, what a scary description that is! After hearing that why would anyone pick Hell over Heaven? The death of Jesus Christ on the cross paid it all for us so that we don’t have to worry about that. Praise Be To God!
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
Great comments! I’m happy to be back in town and have internet access again!! As many of you said–the Kingdom of Heaven is WORTH IT! No matter what it costs us in this life…no matter how hard it is to be a Christian and follow Christ sometimes…it’s all worth it. Praise God for sending His son to save me. Thank you Jesus.
38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
I loved these verses because it shows how God has set the world from beginning to end. It also asks us if we are really a “good seed” that grows in God, and if we are going to always stay strong in God to produce “good fruit” and share to others the great news. And the non-christians being the “weeds” are always trying to bring us down, but its up to us to depend on God and always put are faith in him. Because he will always show us the way to heaven. :)
I am PSYCHED OUT OF MY MIND!! The kingdom of heaven is near!! Let us grow spiritually together, and forever seek after the Lord who reigns on high!! Worship night was PHENOMENAL and Jesus deserves all our praise!! Jesus Christ gave us that chance to see the Lord on high in heaven, oh praise the one who paid our debts!! :D
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
wow this passage is so true! while in this life as a Christian i will face persecutions and trials, it is ALL worth it. i know that soon i will be with the One i love, with the One who paid it all for my sins on the cross! no matter what happens to me, i will always have salvation through the blood of Jesus! i pray that i shout outabout God’s awesomeness and grace at my school and boldly proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and praise God with all my heart all the time! MARANATHA! Come get me Jesus!!!
hollaa(:
38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,—I am so thankful that God shose me! And he chose me hoping that I might carry out his will. I need to be living my life all for Jesus with my heart only focused on that! I definitely want to be the good seed in the middle of the field that is reppin’ the sons of the kingdom! Like we just sang at Double It Up, Lord, lead me to the cross! I am giving my heart to you. I want you always to be on my mind all day that I can show my excitement for the LORD!! I am going to be showing my excitement by telling the ones that need it the most about Jesus Christ.
MARANATHA!!!
True North Takeover and Double It Up were the boommbbb!! I love pouring my heart out to the LORD in worship!!! :D
TRUE NORTH TAKEOVER today was AMAZING!!!
In-n-Out=Yummy(as usual)
Worship=AMAZING!!!(what’s new)
And the message=well haven’t heard it but I hear it is SPECTACULAR!!!(looking forward to tomorrow!) :]
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
God is GREAT!!! and I need to obey Him 24/7 and spread His gospel to the ends of the earth. I want to be a pearl rather than a weed. I want to spread His light rather than tell false testimony. I want to be His slave and not a slave of this world! God is my God and I am His servant craving spiritual milk and want to spread His Word! :]
Glory be to God in the highest! He is King of all and sent His son so we can live! God is glorious!
***MARANATHA!!!***
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Sometimes I do not think about my treasure. I sometimes get caught up in things of the world and I momentarily forget about my treasure. Sometimes I get caught up in things that aren’t good nor bad I forget, for a short time, about my treasure. This verse however encourages me to remember what I have to look forward to. This world is passing away, but the kingdom of God will never pass away.
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
I really like this illustration because it shows me how valuable our salvation is. you can give your life to God, and you will Get something far better in return, just like this man gave everything he had for something better. how amazing is that!
I WANNA HAVE ANOTHER WORSHIP NIGHTT!!! that was awesome :) its so cool that all of us high schoolers want to praise God in worship. He is SO worthy!!!! Seriously guys, that was epic(: Welll… anyways… I really liked……………….
Matthew 13:38 “The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,” I love how Jesus puts this… “the good seed stands fro the SONS OF THE KINGDOM” wow! as Christians, we are God’s children!! Sometimes i just look this over, or take it for granted, but think about it guys.. How awesome is that?! I am a daughter of Jesus Christ! That gets me so pumped!!! This verse kinda goes along with the beginning of what the sermon was on tonight. 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God…” This should get us all really excited! I belong to God!!!!!! Although this is awesome, the rest of verse 38 describes people who ARENT Christians, in kind of a scary way.. “The weeds are the sons of the evil one,” A lot of people think that they really dont have a god, or they are just living for today, and they really dont care. The Bible tells us that really, they worship Satan! Because being on Satan’s team is all about YOU. They are his sons and daughters! John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires.” I praise God that I am His daughter, and my will is do to Christ’s desires, not Satans.
1 John 3:10 “By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.”
41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
Just as those that don’t know Christ yet are doers of evil, Christians are doers of goooood. :) In everything I do I should be glorifying the Lord through my actions and my words…I’ve been thinking about this especially these days…along with keeping a tight reign on my tongue annnnd valuing a dollar a lot more than what I do now..like the parable the Lord gives about the servant that doubled the work so he could add double the money to his pocket…Everyday I’m learning but they are life lessons that I should never forget. God may You keep me accountable on this that I may be more like You everyday and through the life that I live, others may be changed forever and live a life for You instead of for themselves. :)
48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
The way Heaven is described here is so legit. All of those bad fish, the evil and unrepented people, will be put in hell for eternity as punishment. Those good fish will be accepted and taken into Heaven because we obeyed the Lord and we repented. We lived our lives out for His glory and His glory alone.
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
Faith is sooo important as a Christian. Without faith, the Lord will not answer our prayers. Just like in James 1:6 it says that if one ask God for something but doubts he will receive it, the Lord will not give it to him. God wants us to pray as if he has already answered our prayers, and if our prayers are according to his will, then he will answer them. (Mark 11:24) How awesome is that!!! I pray that we all would pray to the Lord with such faith that we already know that he will answer our prayers if they are according to his will. I also pray that the Lord would give us all so much faith in him that we all would never be shaken away from him by this wicked world. MAKE WAR!!!!!!!!
This chapter reminds us of how important it is to evangelize to the lost around us; there is a real judgment that will befall all people one day…which side will we be on? Although we know we are on God’s team, our compassion for the lost compels us to share the Truth with all those around us so that they too may share in His glorious riches!
SHARE JESUS PEOPLE!!!! Just like Pastor Bobby talked about tonight!
I’m supossed to be in bed . . .
I needed to read my Fathers word after such an amazing service . . .
I read . . .
Matthew
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
47″Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
When Jesus comes down, His angels will determine the wicked from the righteous. The wicked will be cast in the firey burning pit, and spend eternity with Satan. However, the righteous people, will live and spent eternity with Jesus in Heaven. That is something HUGE to look forward to. To know that when my God comes down, He’ll choose me as one of his daughters to go into heaven with Him. I cannot wait for that day. I also like the net analogy. God will pick the “good fish” and cast out the “bad fish.” I also like how these verses say that the kingdom of Heaven is like TREASURE! Of course it is. Infact, it’s worth way more than words can even describe. It’s PUUUURE EPIC-NESS! That just leads me to say, MARANATHA. I need to store up my treaures in Heaven and for God, rather than on earth.
Goodnight!
~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~JESUS COME NOW!+~+~++~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~
Sorry for such a short post. =(
41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Thank god i’m not going to hell! I do not ever want to be in a place where their is weeping and gnashing of teeth and i don’t think anyone else would either. It is AWESOME to know that instead of going to a place like that we get to go to heaven forever! I really hope and pray that everyone I know and everyone at the church will make it to heaven. I see how important it is to spread the gospel. I don’t ever want to see someone I know on earth not make it to heaven. the sermon tonight was legit!
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Wow, this is intense! People will be categorized as either righteous or wicked. It seems that so many people like to act like there is all this middle ground but really you are either on God’s team or you are on Satan’s. There is no middle ground here. This is definitely a good exhortation for me to be fearlessly evangelizing because I do not want anyone. let alone people I know and love, to be thrown into the fiery furnace. I am so grateful for God’s mercy in saving me and making me new. God is awesome!
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
I was also thinking when I read this passage tonight that the Kingdom of Heaven is totally worth it! When this man found the pearls, he sold everything he had to obtain it. I need to remember that obeying the Lord and following his commands are totally worth whatever I am “giving up.”
Worship was INCREDIBLE tonight. Praise God!!! I am SO thankful!!!
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
When we become Christians, we give up everything in our old lives for what Jesus offers. We sell it all and buy the fine pearls, as this verse says it. Tonight I’m taking in mind that I need to TELL people about this change in my life, as well as SHOW it (thanks for the sermon Pastor Bobby!) I’m so excited to start bringing up God instead of the weather, now there’s something worth talking about!
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
These two men in Jesus’s parables are very similar. They both have discovered something that is worth giving up everything else for. If these men are willing to give up all they have for simple wealth in this world, how much then should I be eager to give up everything I have for the LORD! He has given something SO much greater than any possible thing I could get on this earth! Jesus dying for me is the most amazing gift I could ever have, so I need to show my thanks to the LORD by serving him with an eager heart in everything. Sometimes I feel like I am making reading my bible or praying a chore. This is so wrong! I need to be ecstatic to read God’s word or pray to him, ALL of the time, not just when it’s convenient! He has given me so much, and he is SO worth it! I need to show this to him through my actions because just saying this means nothing! I am praying that He will help me to be a slave to him with a joyful heart in EVERYTHING!
PRAISE THE LORD!!! MARANATHA!!!!
38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one. I like this verse because it shows us that we are the seeds and the non believers are the weeds and that no matter what Gods grace will always save.
Its so cool how Jesus talks in parables…it really makes me think!!
32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
I know this sounds bad…but I have no idea if I am taking this parable out of context…so I sure hope not! But what I think it is saying is that the strong Christians have the special privelage of being the encouaging example to the newer baby Christians! This verse inspired me to be more of an example of purity in my life to everyone around me and not have anything in my life that people could point a finger at! I want to make it my job to be the “tree” in this verse and be an example!
In these parables that Jesus based his teachings off of. I clearly see that Jesus is talking about the future. After this life on Earth, we are going to spend our eternity in either two places: heaven or hell.
In this chapter, Jesus relates the kingdom of heaven to 4 different things:
(I am only going to talk about 1 and 3)
1) mustard seeds and yeast (v.31)
2) a man who sowed good seeds (v.24)
3) hidden treasure and a pearl (v.44)
4)a net (47)
First of all, lets start out with the parable of the mustard seeds and the yeast, in which Jesus compares a mustard seed/yeast to the kingdom of heaven. Basically, he is saying that the kingdom of heaven is starting out small, but will grow in size and power. Think of the Bible’s times when Jesus was living and preaching. He starting going from town to town teaching to all about the good news with just 12 buddies. Eventually, people repented and became saved, and about thousand years later, we’ve gone from 12 to a lot. This means I have to work. The kingdom of God isn’t going to grow if I’m lazy, or fear what people think about me. It will only grow if I am constantly evangelizing, and reppin Jesus through my actions, and words.
It just doesn’t end there, the kingdom of God will grow in power. Just as a tree growing older, grow taller and sturdier, so will the kingdom of God. And if you don’t believe me, read the book of Revelations, talking about Satan being eternally put in hell, and the all-powerful God, who we praise will reign forever. And because of this we know that God’s team is the only winning team.
And this parable gets better as we go on. Jesus now makes the comparison between yeast and heaven. Now raw dough doesn’t taste the greatest, neither does bread without yeast. Neither of those would be as satisfying as nice tasty bread. As yeast gets worked into the bread, allowing it to rise, it will get tastier when it’s baked. And when the bread is actually baked and ready to eat, it’s going to be delicious. This is the same with the kingdom of God. We’re going to be in the cycle of tasting, craving and coming back for more. On Earth, this is meaning growing spiritually. But the way I look at it, is heaven is like that uncooked piece of raw dough, and heaven is actually the tasty bread. therefore, I should not want to live my life for things of this world, it is only things that will slow my progress and goal in reaching the kingdom of God.
From this parable, I’ve learned three things
1) Help the kingdom of God to grow.
2) Know that the kingdom of God is the only winning team.
3) Live your life for heaven.
Let’s skip the number three. Jesus now compares treasure hidden in a field to the kingdom of heaven, as well as a good pearl. Now the kingdom of heaven isn;t any ordinary treasure, it is a treasure that at some point of our lives, we haven’t possessed. But it is so worth it, that I sell everything, just to own that treasure. This means that the kingdom of God should be my first priority, I should do anything just to get it. I am going to read my Bible more. Wait, let me fix that statement, I am going to read my treasure more, because nothing else in this world is more important or satisfying as the Kingdom of God. This backs up my point that we should live our lives for the kingdom of God.
From these parables, the theme LIVING FOR GOD ISN’T GOING TO BE EASY, BUT IT IS GOING TO BE REWARDING, came to mind, which I will live out for the rest of my life.
Praise God for sending his only son down to die for my sins!!!!
God Bless!!!
37He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.
I love it when Jesus explains his parables. It is cool how Jesus uses every day things to get through to people on what he is trying to speak on. This is one of my favorite parables because it reminds me of my salvation and that I am set free of that fire by God’s grace and Christ dying on the cross for me!!!!
Thank you God for dying on the cross for my sins so I dont have to endure that horrible pain of the fire of Hell!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
45″Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
This parable reminds me of the song “All That Matters.” This man sold everything he had just for one pearl because it was all that mattered to him. In the song it says “I give you all I have” which is exactly what this man did! For Christians, it should be Christ that is desired most in life. I pray that I would be living this out and that people would know that Jesus Christ is all that matters to me, all that satifies, and all that gives me life!
All these verses are great ways that JESUS describes things in todays scripture, from hell to HEAVEN to many other things by saying descriptions in parables!!!
Just as this man gives everything for that one value that is above all…. WE as CHRISTIANS should be more like that man in the way that we should do everything we can to GO TO HEAVEN, and love and spread the LORDS WORD!!!
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Man, I am just feeling that Heaven is the the best place to be right now! The truth is every moment I am are here in this earth I am apart from the greatness of God! I want to be near that greatness! I want the Lord to come and weed up those who dive into sin and save me so that i will be able to declare his praises!
Jesus taught with divine wisdom and he spoke with authority in parables! But still there were only to ways—the good and the bad weed! BUt as for me i will hunger and thirst for righteousness!! Amen!!
“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
48When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
49This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
It is important that once we find the kingdom of heaven we should want to become righteous just as Jesus was, and that way we will be like the good fish that were kept and not thrown away
41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew gives us some pretty explicit descriptions about Hell. There’s no mistaking here that Hell is a place you don’t want to be. A lot of people act like they aren’t worried about it, and like their sin is just something they can shrug off and deal with later. But to go one moment without Christ is not worth it. Praise the Lord for sending His son so we don’t have to suffer His wrath!
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
THis is such a great verse! It is such a great analogy to the Christian life. When we find the Kingdom of Heaven and find God and discover what He has done for us, we have so much joy and sell everything else we have in order to buy that life! I must sell everything else in my life in order to base it around God and love Him ONLY! I need to get rid of every other earthly desires and throw it away so that God can be my cornerstone!!! I can choose to be the good seed or the weed! I choose to be the good seed because those are the sons of God who get to spend eternal life in heaven with the Lord our God. THe weeds will be pulled and thrown into the burning fires of hell with “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” That does NOT sounds fun and i choose to be with the one i love. I cannot wait till Heaven and these chapters just wish and long for that this very instant!
This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
I just want to state that i think this is incredibly scary and horrifying and i do not wnat to see anyone i know end up here, it just sounds soooooo awful! I pray that the Lord gives me the strength to be bold and not care what my friends say about me. i wish i could be like Pual and just proclaim the gospel fearlessly! That would be sooo amazing!!! Thank you Lord fro my salvation!!!
46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
I am sooo excited that one day I will spend eternity with my savior. It makes me realize that I would give anything in this life so that i could be in Heaven at this moment!! Maranatha!!!!
56Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”
Reading this verse reminds me again of how unaccepting the people were of Jesus. They ignore the prophesies and question how He knows what He does. At first to me that seems ridiculous….but so many people nowadays are doing the same thing! They say that they believe a Jesus lived and did some of the things the Bible the says He did….but not all….and they *don’t* believe that He is God’s Son. This reminds me that when I read the Bible, it’s not just some fun story or something. It sounds obvious, and it is, but sometimes when I’m reading a passage that’s more than a few verses I find myself just reading it for some reason….then I have to go back and read it again. I need to work on this so that the second time I read a passage is used for more depth rather than what the first time around should be.
32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
Great chapter! The parables are very cool!! in this verse, heaven is shown to be something amazing that is bigger than we know! I can’t wait for that day to come where we will dwell in the courts of the Lord!
Matthew 13
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
I am so encouraged after reading these posts. I am stoked to hear so many young men and women who treasure Christ over the things of this world. The treasure and the pearl in these two parables are the treasure of Christ. In Christ is find wisdom and knowledge which leads us to sell all of our earthly riches which we once valued more. We in turn invest our whole lives in service to Christ and His Gospel.
Colossians 2:2-3 2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Thanks be to God for His healing power that brings life everlasting!
44″The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
As christians we too should be joyful like what bobby spoke about in his sermon about our salvation, telling each and every person
It is sooo exciting reading these verses and knowing that one day you will be there in this place with Christ. We want treasures in heaven, not on earth. We need to spread God’s word at every moment we open our mouth!!

These verses encourage me to make sure that my priorities are right. God’s eternal reward for me in Heaven is more valuable than anything. As Jesus suggests, those who profess belief in Christ must be willing to give up everything else. It makes me think of the New Moon sermon a couple of weeks ago; nothing in my life should come before God–not even my own family. I want to make God my number one priority, and I’m praying that at True North we will all put the Lord first.
50and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This to me doesnt sound like the best place to be when you die and have to live the rest of your enternal life with fire and the gnashing of teeth. I remember Mattew Crane last year used an example of holding onto a piece of coal on fire and not being to let go of it. To tell this to people might get them to listen and think is this the place i want to go? I know I am scared just by reading or eeven thinking about it.
