Matthew 12:1-37

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath

12:1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

A Man with a Withered Hand

He went on from there and entered their synagogue. 10 And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him. 11 He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.

God’s Chosen Servant

15 Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all 16 and ordered them not to make him known. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:

18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased.
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel or cry aloud,
nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets;
20 a bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory;
21 and in his name the Gentiles will hope.”

Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

22 Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” 25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26 And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. 30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit

33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (ESV)

11He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?
12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Jesus makes a great point here!!! An example of puting worldy things above spiritual things. He used the example of having to get a sheep out of a pit. Do we value worldy possessions than each other. This a an encouraging verse for me that I need to make sure my priortites are straight with God at the top.

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. DB 2010 says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This is a pretty scary verse!!! Many people think that they are all “ok” if they arent with Jesus, but it clearly says here that they are against Him! Thats not a good thing when He can throw people into hell! The Word needs to be spread that everyone should choose to be on God’s team in this battle!

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

Someone who claims to be a Christian cannot be two faced with the Lord. A good tree can’t be producing bad fruits! Everything we do must be of the light, or its sin!

  3. Dave Hosford, thankful to God says:

Mat 13:21 In his name the nations will put their hope. And those that don’t, jsut as DB 2010 says, will have NO HOPE! We all have a choice…

    Lord, Please come soon!

    DB 2010–WHO ARE YOU?! :)

I, too, was impacted by this verse:
30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

It’s not enough to SAY we’re on Jesus’s team. Every player has his position, even if they aren’t in game mode every Sunday (football reference). Warming the bench? No excuse not to train. WE STILL MUST BE READY. And that means we must be actively training and exercising and practicing–we are STILL on the payroll, we are STILL on the roster, we are STILL expected to (and be willing to) deliver at ANY GIVEN MOMENT. God has divine appointments for EACH of us. We must be READY. And healthy and WILLING. And we must listent to our Coach (Jesus)-by knowing our Play Book (Scripture) and executing the drills (obeying).

    25Jesus knew their thoughts …

Here is just a little reminder that Jesus is omnipotent and therefore God. The divinity of Christ is a key point in understanding the Gospel and salvation, without it we would be as Paul said “the most foolish men/women on earth”, but praise God that it is true and that we serve a ruling, reigning, divine Savior!

  6. Kyle J, Oreos & milk says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This is a perfect example of how you either on God’s team or Satan’s team. If you are not with Jesus, you are against him. You are his “opponent.” That’s so scary to think if you’re against God. It’s scary to know that I was one of those people for 15 years of my life. My mind is thinking right now, if I’m on God’s team I should be doing things that should help my team out, if a player is hurtin or is not “playing” well then I should have their back.

31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

ive learned about verses like this before…and its iteresting to me that any sin in the world, whether we think it is absoulutely horrible or not WILL be forgiven. we will be washed clean again, but if anyone speaks blasphemy against God will not be forgiven. so its like once you let words like that come out of your mouth you will not be forgiven. its very heavy to think about.

  8. ~ Ariana Mishreki ~ says, "Happy Thanksgiving" to all! It's going to be great. =) says:

    Goodmorning . . .

    I read . . .

    Matthew 12:1 – 37 . . .

“30. He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.”

Any man or woman who does not have the Holy Spirit in their hearts, is obviously against God. Sadly, those people choose to continue to live for their selfish ways, and find it easier to live that way also. That is not the way one will spend eternity with God. It’s either Satan’s team, or God. ONE OR THE OTHER. Not both.

“31. And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.”

“32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”

I like it! God’s saying, every hate and curse against men will be forgiven. Meaning, when you diss your brother or sister, God will forgive you. However, if you diss God, Christianity, or Jesus, WOOOOOW you’ve crossed the line buddy boy. When you do that, you WON’T be forgiven. Pretty harsh to think about actually. To know that God will not live down what you dissed or what you believed about God and the Holy Spirit. Those people won’t even be forgiven in “the age to come.”

“34. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Depending on your hearts motive, and where you stand before God, your mouth will speak. If ones heart is evil and has wicked desires, than that persons mouth will not be very glorifying. (to God or anyone else) However, if one is a Christian, like myself, than my mouth should glorify God and lift up people. Rather than degrading people. I remember from a “Girls Workshop” from The Narrow, we made chapsticks that said, “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” So it reminded each and every one of us to be careful what comes out of our mouth each time we put that chapstick on. That’s a great reminder!

“36. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.”

“37. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

On judgment day, when I sit before my Father, Creator, Savior, and Maker, I will be accounted for every word that has flown out of my mouth. Wether it be good or bad, I will still be judged about it in front of my Lord. Every word that I “didn’t” mean to say, or “slipped out,” will still be accounted for. God is writing down and keeping check of how pure or how un-pure my mouth is. I pray, that my mouth would be WAAAAY MORE PURE RATHER THAN UN-PURE. Verse 37 says is great. By the words that come out of my mouth, I’ll be acquitted and condemned. Scary to think about, but all the more reason to strive to have a HOLY mouth right now.

  9. Shelby Sawyer says:

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

If I call myself a Christian I need to be living out the life the Lord commanded. How can I proclaim to know the Lord yet not bear any fruit. We are not saved by works but people will know that we are Christians because of our fruit that we bear in our lives. This verse makes me realize that I can say whatever I want but my life should reflect who I say I am. As a Christian I know that I am an example to those all around me and I do not want to be a hypocrite.
34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

This just made me realize that whatever is in my heart will come out in my actions. If my actions are not pleasing to the Lord or my parents or a bad example to others I need to check my heart.

35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

This verse is similar to the others. Simply who ever we are on the inside will reflect on the outside. If I am in the word daily, praying, and surround myself with strong Christian friends all the time I should be growing and bring out good things stored inside me. It is so important to check my heart and motives behind my actions.. I can put on any mask I want for others but what is stored inside my heart is what will come out.

  10. Jasmine 2010 says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Many times if people think that I’m neutral/ lukewarm/ okay/religious then that is enough. But here in this verse it clearly says that if I’m not with Jesus, then I’m against Him. This reminds me of Revival when Pastor Mike talked about the two teams. There is no gray area or a middle ground but you’re either on Jesus’ team or the Satan’s team. That’s why it’s so important not to allow compromise into my life or to rationalize things out. It’s pretty clear that it states that if I’m not for God living out my whole life sold out to Him on fire than that I am against Him. Like Bobby said, halfway in is not in at all. It’s not possible to love the world and claim to love Jesus with a divided heart.

  11. Nicholas Bonetto says:

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.”

We cannot be Christians through our own works. We are only made new through the cross. There are so many false Christians that claim to be Christians, but really, they are still living a life pleasing themselves and walking in darkness. i can know whether someone is a Christian by the deeds in there life. If I am truly a Christian, good deeds will come with Christianity.

    !!!MARANATHA!!!

  12. Kelsey says:

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Wow, this scares me. It really makes me think. I really need to watch what I say and do, and think. Every little thing I think and say I will be held accountable for. I am going to have to stand in front of Jesus, my savior, who has never sinned, and explain why I said this or that. It is not worth it to sin. I feel bad enough when I am held accountable by my parents, let alone perfect Jesus Christ. It really helps motivate me to resist temptation. These verses remind me to fear the Lord also

  13. Zach V says:

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken

This is scary because everyone has said really dumb things in their life. Jesus puts the word careless because that’s what it is. If you think before you speak, you won’t say the stupid things. This is something I can work on. I can think before I speak so I don’ say something careless for the tongue is evil.

  14. Jacob U. says:

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

I liked this verse because it tells us that we (the tree) aour defined by our actions (the fruit). And that if we have bad fruits, we cannot be a good tree.

  15. Trembling with fear from the almighty God, B says:

haha Stacy, DB is Derek Brower. XD otaaaaaaaaaay back to scripture.
33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

Everytime I think about the good tree and the bad tree now I think of Austin and his last campus lunch. XD I think it’s because of his analogy that he used that really helped my friend think about what life is all about. Sooooo really I have to Lord to thank for speaking through Austin. BUT anyways! If I am a goooood tree, what will come out of my mouth will be insightful things that glorify the Lord or help others grow. (Eph. 4:29) or wisdom as well (Proverbs 10)…I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I definitely need to keep a tighter hold on my tongue so that it only speaks truthfully. That the only thing that comes out are things that help others grow. Good fruit…that is delicious. :)P

  16. Dominic S says:

30 “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

A lot of people today think that just being a good person will get you into heaven. But I need to realize that nothing I can do will make me a “good person,” because my soul is stained with sin. The only thing that can clean this is Jesus, and I have to be on His side. If I am a “good person,” but I’m not living for Jesus, then Jesus says that I am against Him.

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.
34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

I as a Christian am recognized by my actions and what I do and say that reflects my walk with Jesus. If I curse like a sailor and make inappropriate jokes, then I am showing bad fruit. If I truly have a good foundation and am a “good tree” then I should make all of my actions be for God’s glory.

  17. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”
25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.
26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?

Wooow the Pharisees were wrong on this one! Don’t mess with Jesus! He knew what they were thinking and then had an amazing and true statement to go with it! We all know that is something is divided it doesnt work out. How can Jesus be Satan if he is driving out demons? That just not make any sense at all! This really shows me how awesome God is, and how awesome Jesus is too! These verses have helped show me how smart God is and how I need to know that I need to continue to fear Him, and know that He is mightier than me!

This was a great chapter!!!!!!!!!! I am glad that I have the oppurtunity to read God’s word on SOTD!!!!!!!!!

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This is a great verse to memorize. If we are not living for God we are living for ourselves!!

  19. Jessica K :) says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.
36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

This reminds me how important it is to be all in or all out. We are either for God or against God. I need to be wholeheartedly for God and passionately into His word. These last two verses scare me because they are a harsh reality of the judgment we will all have to face. I will have to answer for every wrong deed and word. How much more that should make me want to stand out in my faith and stand up for God! Because everything in this world will pass away, but God’s words will never fade. He is everlasting, worthy of worship and praise. Everything I do should be for God. I should not falter between sides but need to stand strong on God’s side.

  20. Emily Knudsen says:

30 “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This verse stood out to me the most because i feel that God is saying either your with me or your not. There is NO IN BETWEEN! So if you are not faithful to God or unsure of were your at, pray that you will come to his side, because you may be on the wrong side.

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

This verse also stood out to me because it truly shows us to always be on our Guard of what we say and do, because one day we will be judged and have to stand before God and confess every sin we have ever committed. So always remember, “What would Jesus do?” :)

  21. Beth Lauder says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This verse reiterates the Biblical truth that there are two teams: God’s Team & Satan’s Team. There is no “in between” team. We are either completely for Jesus or we are completely against Him. All human beings are either on one team or the other. Our sinful nature, the world, and the devil like to deceive us and tell us that if we believe in Christ, go to church, and are better people than those around us, then we are alright with God. This is a lie! Jesus Himself is saying in this verse that it is not possible for anyone to remain neutral about Him. We show that we are on God’s team if we have repented of our sins, placed our trust in Christ and have a life that is characterized by good deeds after our conversion. If God is not our priority, if we do not read and obey His Word, then we are not on His Team. I am grateful today that God chose me for His team. I can look at my life and see evidence that reflects the fact that I have made the decision to follow Christ. I have no doubts! As Thanksgiving approaches, I am thankful for God and the fact that He dragged me to the cross and gave me a spot on His Team!

  22. Allen McAnlis says:

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

This is how we are able to tell the christians from the fakes. Those who truely love God will follow Him at His word and they will do what He says. We all must make sure that our fruits are good so that those who see them cannot use anything against us. We are to be examples to the world and show them that christians are not hypocritical.

  23. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 36,”But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.”

I like this verse because it talks about Judgment day. We are to give an account for every careless word we have uttered. When I read these verses it makes me watch what I say think or act because I am going to have to talk to GOD about all the sins I have committed. I am fearing GOD when I read these because I don’t want the punishment for speaking words that should never have been made.

  24. Brooke Miller says:

33 ″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and if you are a true Christian, it will be noticeable through the fruit that is produced and through your actions. Works are not what save you, but after you become a Christian it only makes sense to see a changed life that is new. I noticed that when I became a Christian, I noticed differences in my life. I had different passions and desires that were now set on Christ. I also know many people who claim to be Christians at my school, yet I hear them cussing and making inappropriate jokes and just living like everyone else. It is easy to claim to be a Christian, but do you really live your life doing what God commands? This verse is encouraging for me to evaluate myself and make sure that my actions are right and if I am producing good fruit for the right reasons!!! This week is Thanksgiving and there is so much to be thankful for, so praise God for how awesome he is and for all he has given us!

  25. Tim (can you stop calling me Mr.?) Payne says:

29″Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.

Wrap yourself in the Word of our Lord, daily, wholly to make strong the House!

  26. Dan Lauder says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Jesus made it clear that you can’t take a neutral position on him. You either are for him, or against him. Most of the people I talk to about Jesus want to take a middle of the road position on him. They say things like Jesus was a great moral teacher or an influential figure of history. I have not met a person yet who flat out said they thought he was crazy since he claimed to be God, but I’m sure they are out there. In these conversations this is a great verse to help people understand that Jesus did not leave the middle ground option open. He was either a liar or lunatic, or he is Lord!

Of course this applies to me as well. I can’t take a neutral position on Jesus either. Though it may be more convenient and more self-gratifying to live for myself, Jesus is my Lord. I need to act like he is the one in charge on a continual basis. When I am not with him, I am against him, and when I don’t gather with him, I am scattering.

  27. Alicia Karlsson says:

12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep

This shows that animals should not be treated like people. Because they are NOT people. So you can put away all the dog clothes you bought them for christmas, and please don’t worry if they are left alone for a couple hours or even days they will be fine.

    Anyway enough about that….

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

This really hit me. The day of judgement will come and not only will they be judged by their actions but they will be judged by the things they say. that is intense. How easy it is to speak and not be concerned with what we say however, this is a sobering reality we have to think about what we say before we say it no matter if we are saved or not. Verse 34 gives such a clear picture of how corrupt we are. “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks”. It is not the words that matter but the meaning behind the words. What is in our hearts will be what we talk about.
Oh Lord, you alone are holy and I know that with out you my heart is filthy and sick. I pray that when I speak what overflow from mouth is words that would bless encourage and speak truth in love. Help me to be more like Christ in my heart, attitude and actions.

  28. Wesley Wong says:

Christians should be friends with Christians.

Look at verse 26: If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?
I am going to take out Satan, and put in Christians, so this below is not the real verse.
If Christians drives out Christians, we is divided against ourselves. How then can our kingdom stand?

What I’m trying to say is that our lives should bear good Christian fruit (verse 34), and the most important is love. The world is going to recognize us as Christians for our love for one another. If we are claiming to be Christians, we should live our lives as Christ did (1 John 2:6). I need to show some more love towards some people in my family. After all, they are my Christian brothers and sisters.

    God Bless!!

  29. Tristan Jorden says:

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.”

It should be obvious to others that I am a Christian by the good works that I conduct and the appropriate behavior that I display, which is taught to me through the Bible. It is my fault if I confuse people about my religious beliefs because of my behavior, be it words or activities. If people don’t see me as Christian, I need to pray for guidance for no compromise in my Christianity. Jesus has made me a good tree, and if I truly have faith in Him, I should always try to honor and praise Him by consistently trying to make good fruit.

  30. Brett *2010* says:

Wow, I really like Jesus’ answer to the pharisees in verses 25-30, that is such a smart answer!

30.) ″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Like Derek said, pretty scary stuff…if you are not on God’s team! I am so glad that He has chosen me to be on His team…but I know I can do better telling others of this fact!

  31. Hunter 2010 says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

These verses encouarge me to have a clean heart. It says in the Bible that the heart is decietfull above all things and is naturaly evil. Instead of my heart being selfish, bitter, and pridefull like it used to be I want to continally have my heart and mind cleansed by God’s Word so that I can treat others like He wants me to (Mt. 22:34-35) . The battle to live right begins in our hearts!

  32. Natalieeeeee says:

Mmmmm! I totallyy want to echo Stacy’s comment!! She explained it so well!! No matter what position you are on the team you still need to train!! Because we never know when our coach is gunna throw us in the game (: Great comment Stacy!!

So many people think ‘Oh, I’m not a Christian but I do good things so i’m going to go to heaven.’ But this tells us that they are AGAINST Jesus. Not only are they not for Him but they are AGAINST Him. I do NOT want to be against Jesus and I don’t think anyone else would if they knew what He could do to them. We need to make sure that people know His power.

v.33 ~ “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.”

Everyone is judged based on they’re actions. Even if we think we are following Him but our actions don’t show that, we aren’t really following Him. WE need to make sure that our actions reflect our Heavenly Father to everyone around us.

v.34-35 ~ “…For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.”

Whatever is in our heart will come out of our mouths eventually. Even if we think that we are deceiving people, eventually it’ll show. We need to make sure that our hearts are in the right place with God so that we aren’t being deceptive and good things will come out of us.

v.36-37 ~ “36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

This tells us how immensely important the words that we say are. We will have to give an account for every single careless word that we say… Which is a lot! That is very scary for me.

  34. Spencer Camp says:

    Matthew 12:36-37
“But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Wow. It seems talkativeness should not be a desired trait by Christians. Why? Because Christians understand that every imperfect or negligent word uttered from their mouths will require an explanation before God, and most times their is no good explanation.

In Proverbs the fool is portrayed as someone who excessively babbles on with many words. The wise carefully choose their words, understanding the necessity of listening more than speaking.

Simply put, I need to talk less and listen more because one day I will have to give an account for every careless word I speak.

  35. kelly causky says:

30 “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This just proves that we cannot be half in for God. We can’t serve him sometimes and then live for ourselves the rest of the time. We are either all in or we are all out. There is not in between, the Bible makes it clear.

  36. Alyssa K says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

This clarifies that if I am not with God all the way, I am being scattered away into the crowd and falling away into the world. That is why reading God’s Word and constantly praying is so important–so that I can have the right influences on my life and live to please him and produce good fruit. I thought verse 31 was interesting; it is one of those details I don’t think I knew, so it’s good to be reminded of an important fact like that. I need to make sure I am always with God and not with those who make blasphemy against Christ or the Holy Spirit…and I should pray for those who do blasphemize against God.

  37. Jenna Perry says:

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

Truthfully, nothing really stood out to me until i came across this verse! This is a really scary thought that we have to face every sin we committed on the day of judgement. This should be a wake up call for most people; i know it is for me! I need to try and watch what i say and the actions i portray more closely. God will judge us harshly and we do deserve it! This doesn’t really have to do with this chapter but i was thinking the other day how sad or upset God should feel because he doesn’t get the praise he deserves from his people. He is SO amazing and Christians and non-Christians give no where near the respect or worship to God that he wants or earns. He is the creator of the universe and although he won’t ever get the praise he deserves because we are only human, we should still try hard and focus on him 24/7!!

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING…. almost:))

  38. Michelle says:

What i noticed about the beginning of this chapter was how simple it was for Jesus to respond to the Pharisees. He completely quoted scripture and I think that is something i know i need to do immediatley: Memorize scripture so that i can quote it in times of need. It has taken me a while to realize how urgent it is to know scripture. When i am evangelizing and someone has a question, it is always good to know Gods word so that i can quickly answer it with a correct, biblical response.
I need to take advantage of Gods Word and dig into in more!!!It is so important

    Maranatha!

  39. Lizzie McCoy says:

30 “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

There is no middle thing in Christianity. Your either all in for Jesus or your all out. There is no such thing as a lukewarm Christian, its just not right to call yourself a Christian if were only living for Him half the time. If we arent for God then who are we for? Satan, end of story. :)

  40. Janiel V says:

35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

you can’t be a Christian who does evil things; being all pumped up at Sunday and then being ‘invisible’ the rest of the week. that’s like giving up, going back nad making others fall in their walk with Christ. REVIVAL PEOPLE!!!! XD

    Awsome comment Lizzie :)

  41. Kelsey Collins says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
In Luke 6:45 it also talks aboutthe overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. This is an important verse to me. Its so important that I fill my heart with good and Godly things. What we fill our minds with is what is coming out of our mouths its just a given fact. If were studding for a test and verfently memorizing what the material says were going to remember it for the test and for a lot of our lives to come. Somtimes when somthing is even repeated over and over again we get it stuck into our head. In my case, and every other teenage Christians case, it would have to be cussing. We hear it sooo much that its imprinted into our brains forever, it soon becomes a regular thing to hear and we dont even notice it. Most people say its hard to get away from, and that is true, but that doesnt mean you cant ask the person to please stop if there nonstop cussing every other word. Its so important for me to be in Gods word daily and memorizing it too, becuase if I do its in my mind and im constantly thinking about it. If im constantly thinking about it, that is how im going to try to live.

  42. Rebekah Foreman says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This is an important verse because whoever is not on Christ’s team is against Him and we need to bring people to His team. If we do not share the Word than people will scatter and burn in hell.

  43. Boyd Jorden says:

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

These verses encourage me to be careful with my words and to make sure my words are edifying to others and pleasing to God. That’s something I’ve definitely struggled with at times in my life; I’m an extroverted person and I love to laugh and joke around with my family and friends, but I need to make sure still that my joking is appropriate and not destructive. My prayer is that God will give me self-control and help me speak words that are careful vs. careless. James 3:5-6!!!!!!

  44. Josh Larson says:

6I tell you that one greater than the temple is here. it is important that we realize that jesus is lord and we need to worship him as one not being to worried about little things like the Pharisees

  45. Jasmine Douglas says:

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

Wow, we are going to give account to EVERYTHING that comes out of our mouth. This definitely reminds me to only say things that bring glory to God. I don’t want to grieve the Holy Spirit by my words that are not honoring to the Father. Sometimes we say things that seem so insignificant, but to God it’s a big deal! The way we talk reveals a lot about us and I want to represent Christ the right way!

  46. Brandi says:

I like verse 30 because it says that we can’t just be partcially with God. If were not completely with him then were not with him at all.

  47. Brick-E says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Wow. That’s seems straight forward to me. If you are not with God you are AGAINST him.

  48. Murphy Danahy says:

25Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.
26If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?

Wow, JESUS the king of logic. It makes sense, doesn’t it? I mean, the pharisees had absolutely no proof that JESUS was not GOD and they made those comments out of spite, but JESUS totally just took out all those arguments.

  49. Summer Staeb says:

    awesome chapter(:

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Intense verses! God really convicted me by these verses because so often I am tempted to just speak without thinking. It’s super easy to fall into this sin because talking is just so easy! Each and every single rash or foolish word I have EVER spoken, I will be judged for. yikesss! I am definitely going to work on this! I pray that this week I would think about what I’m going to say BEFORE I say it and not let anger or gossip get the best of me.

  50. Pastor Bobby says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Every day we are showing who we are on the inside by the things that we say. One thing we are going to talk about this weekend at True North Takeover is speaking praise to God. This shows that in our hearts we are thankful for our salvation. I am praying that I will center my conversation more on Jesus and always be ready to tell others what he has done for me!

*****In case, you haven’t heard Double It Up Worship Night this Saturday is open for everyone so feel free to invite your family and friends to hit up In-N-Out and then come back and worship with us!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING and see you all this weekend at True North Takeover! I am so thankful for what God has done and is doing and will do at True North!

35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.—This is really convicting because I know I really need to be watching my fruits and making sure that good is coming out of them. I need to bring the good out of the good stored up in me so that I can draw people closer to God and encourage them! I am especially thinking about all of my family who do not have a relationship with Christ. I also want to show all of my good to show that Christians are loving people whos hearts are trying to be like Christ’s. I do not want to push people away because of my actions but push them towards a relationship with Jesus!
    MARANATHA!!!

can you please pray for my mom she is in the hospital right now :) HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  52. Brett Foreman says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

    - This is a great verse to describe whos team we are really on, whether its a team for Christ, or a team for ourselves, or a team for any other things we might idolize… We need to be on Gods team and teach others and make our team greater and stronger by bringing others to Christ and growing spiritually ourselves as well!!!!

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

    - I like this verse because it states that we should not say we are Christians and not act like one!!! For instead we need to say we are Christians and act upon GODS WORD, and if we are a bad tree than we need to read GODS WORD and live our lives for CHRIST!!!!!

35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

    - This is great too ^^^^^^ verse (35) because it also states kinda what (34) says and is also another good example!!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!

  53. Taylin Reinholtz says:

I seriously love how Jesus proves the Pharisees wrong every time they try to stump him. It’s so amazing and I love how Jesus does it too. He isn’t doing it because he thinks he’s amazing and all that. He’s bringing glory, praise, and honor to his father’s name.
I think it’s safe to say that when we get in an arguement, it’s always best to have Jesus on our side since he has the best come backs!

Also, it’s pretty convicting to hear that we will be judged according to everything we have ever said. I mean thinking back on things I’ve said in the past, that’s sort of a scary thought to know that God will be looking at all of that. Plus, I still have the rest of my life to watch my mouth and my thoughts to not think/say certain things. When I get judged, I think that I will be there a long while!! Thank you God for sending Jesus!! Without him, I would be sent to hell!!

  54. Meisha Preston says:

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.”

We are known by our fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. You don’t get salt water out of a fresh stream and thornbushes don’t grow grapes. This always challenges me to look at my life and see what fruit am I producing. Am I producing fruit in line with righteousness or fruit in line with Satan???

  55. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Wow, awesome chapter! These verses about our speech are convicting for me because I know that I say things that are unnecessary, rude, angry and foolish. This verse definitely teaches me something important about myself–that those words come straight from my heart, yikes! I can’t just say “Ah, you know what I meant” or “I didn’t mean it” or have a flippant attitude about the things coming out of my mouth. I want to be loving the Lord with my whole heart and I certainly don’t want there to be evil that I let stay there. Tonight I am asking God to search my heart as I confess sin to him that may be coming out of my mouth but is rooted in my heart. My prayer is that love for him would overflow into words of praise, building up others and only saying what is necessary to those who hear (Ephesians 4:29)

  56. Katie Slusher says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Hmm….Satan’s team or God’s team? Pastor Mike made this so clear at Revival. If I am on God’s team, then my life is all about God. If I am on Satan’s team, my life is all about me. I need to make sure I am always striving to gather people to God’s team! Devoted to prayer and taking every opportunity to spread the Good News! I pray that it is always evident that I am living for God’s team!

  57. Alison says:

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

Wow! Convicting! I’ve definitely said plenty of things without thinking about them… things that just “slip out.” But that does NOT excuse anything in the mind of God! I am going to strive to be very careful with what I say and THINK before I speak.

  58. Evan McKee says:

14But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.

The Pharisees were such hypocrites. It’s incredible that people could be so corrupt. This verse helped illustrate to me how the world hates christians. when someone tells someone that they aren’t good enough on their own, it can hurt their pride, and the for people like the pharisees who were extremely arrogant it would cause them a lot of grief. again this seems to go back to pride, and I can see why God hates it so much. Pride made Satan hate God, and cast him out of His presence, and pride is still making people hate God, and causing them to be unable to enter the kingdom of heaven.

  59. Marissa Ramirez says:

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

I am not looking forward on judgement day when I have to talk face to face to God about all the sinful things I have done. But, we all learn from our mistakes and we try to fix them. Even though we might do it again it is good to repent and keep on trying. It seems soo long away for judgement day but i know it coild be tomorrow. I am very thankful that Jesus had died on the croos for our sins. What are you thankful for? Hope you all have a safe and wonderful thanksgiving.

  60. Matthew James Crichton says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This verse reminded me of Revival and the great message we heard from Pastor Mike. A person is either on God’s team or Satan’s. there is no middle ground. I’m pretty stoked to be on God’s team.

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
These are great verses that stood out to me. I am recognized by my fruit that i produce. I hope that my tree bares good fruit and that my tree is good and healthy. In this way, i hope that my walk and relationship with the Lord is good and righteous and nothing about it is fake! If i can not 100% with God and following in His footsteps all the way, then i against Him and i will fall away. I am praying that i can be 100% in and with the Lord. Even if i was 99.9% with the Lord, i still would not be in adn i would fall away. I am either in or out with the Lord and there is no in between! Matthew 12:36 scares me! On the day of judgement when i must sit before the Lord and be judged, i want to make that the shortest conversation of my life! In this verse it says that on that day, i will be responsible and taken account for every single careless word, thought, or action i have done! That is pretty scary! I do not want to be judged by my Lord and my creator!

  62. mady(: says:

6I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.

This is awesome!!!!! Okay, i dont really know why, but i find it SOO cool the symbolism between the temple in the Old Testament and the sacrifices made there for the people’s sins, compared to Jesus who is “greater than the temple” and how he is a permanent sacrifice for EVERYONE’s sins! Everytime I read a verse about that it gets me all excited!!! Its so cool to think that Jesus really did pay it all! He finished it, and his dieing on the cross paid everything! Especially with Thanksgiving tomorrow… I want to be thanking God for his Son’s eternal sacrifice on the cross, and praising him for saving me from the hands of death!!!

alrightyyy… I cannooottttt wait for True North Takeover this weekend! Join me in praying for Pastor Bobby’s sermon you guys :)

  63. Katie Melrose says:

37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Oooo, scary words. This is something i need to always keep in mind 24/7. Everything i say whether outloud or in my heart will stand open before the Lord on judgement day, and how embarrasing would it be if all i had was garbage. Thankfully, i have the bible to teach me these things before i do it! I notice that whenever i say something i regret it always comes back to bite me. Its so important that i learn from my mistakes. Especially since i always seem to say things without thinkings, not bad things, but just pointless things. Lord I pray that you will give be a wise tongue and thoughtful heart.

23All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”

Jesus is the Son of David and is the Son of God! He is the only way to heaven!
Today I was with my dad walking our dog and some mormons came up and tried to talk to us. We told them that we believe in Jesus and the Bible and that we don’t need to book of morman for the Bible said not to change the Bible.
They told us that how do we know the Bible is the only right book if we have never read the book of morman. I was then thinking that it is similar to saying that I need to practice drugs to make sure it is bad/good(if that makes sense).
I wish as Christians I/we would get out there more and evangelize like to mormans, because soooooo many don’t know that Jesus is the Son of God! He is the only way to heaven and He is my King and my Savior! Forever and for ALWAYS! Pray for those who don’t know the truth! :]
Looking forward to this weekend!!! :]

    ***HE IS KING!!!***

  65. Sara L. says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

This verse is a perfect example of how there are only two “teams”. So many people are of the mindset that you can be half and half, but Jesus makes it quite clear that that is not so. It’s not only those who are acting *against* Him, but also those who are not acting with and for Him! Every day I need to have this perspective and base all of my actions off this knowledge. If I am on God’s team, I will be acting like it.

  66. Jimmy Kang says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him

These verses say that what you take in and who you surround yourself with will definitely affect what kinds of things that you say. This really encourages me to look stay diligent reading scripture of the day so my heart can be filled with Godly thoughts and words that will cary over to how i talk.

  67. Ian H. says:

35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

Actions speak louder than words. Regardless of what people might be saying about what they are like, it’s their actions–how they live their lives–that will truly show the internal state of their heart. There are people who say that they are Christians, and yet their actions do not show it; in fact, their actions often show the opposite.
We are saved through Jesus and good fruit of righteousness will naturally be produced in our lives, but as a fallen human beings we will still sin. Despite this, I need to be fighting sin to make sure that I am speaking to others more with a righteous life than with mere words.

It is so cool to see how specific the prophecies were, and how Jesus’ life aligns along them perfectly.
Hundreds of years before these things were predicted, and they are fulfilled to their entirety. It is AmmAAZINnggG!!!

    v. 36-37 “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

I think many people underestimate how serious it is to blaspheme. Using God’s name in vain is no joke, it’s one of the most serious sins out there; you’re replacing a filth word with the name of the one who created all–lowering something so majestic to something used to express your disgust.
    God no likey. d:- /

  70. Cameron says:

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

this verse is scary! while it is speaking of judgement to non believers, Christians are still “judged”. even though we are saved by Christ, and we dont suffer God’s wrath for our sin (because Christ has for us), we still will have to give an account for what we did for God. this is described in 2 Corinthians 5:10. here we know that the wicked will be judged fo every careless word. as a Christian i know that while i wont be judged for sin, i will still be accountable, and my sin may incur God’s chastening (Hebrews 12:5-7). this is motivation for me to watch my words, because i will be accountable to Christ and i dont want to offend Him. i pray that i make war on sin, and watch my mouth and control my tongue!

  71. Pastor Ben says:

    ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’

This is the second time this phrase has come up in our read-through of the Matthew. The Pharisees may have done all the “reigious” things, but they were not merciful people. That should be a warning to me and any other Christian. I need to make sure that I am not just “doing the right religious things” yet failing to love other people.

In 1 Timothy 1:5, Paul tells Timothy, “The goal of this command is love…” The goal of knowing the right biblical knowledge and doing the right religious things should be to love others! I want to keep this in mind as I see family members this holiday season and as I minister to people!

  72. 36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Wow, this is definitely something to think about very often. Every sin I commit/have committed will be discussed before God. How embarrassing! This makes sinning look so stupid! This is definitely a call to want to sin less. I cannot be perfect, but I can strive for perfection. Verse 37 talks about our language and words. I need to make it a habit to have edifying and encouraging words to others and not be discouraging. My words being hurtful or gossiping about others may seem harmless at the time, but it carries a big weight. I will give an account on judgement day and I need to make sure I obey God’s word instead of disregarding it.

  73. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

33″Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

This is so true. It makes me think how is my fruit. If people cant see that I am living for Christ then there is a problem. Knowing is half of it I must have actions to.

  74. Austin Jones says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.”

Many non-Christians think you can just be overall good and be with God. But the harsh reality is that we’re either with him, or lost without him. There is no in between. Christians will bear good fruit and non-christians wont bear fruit! If we dont have God, than every ounce of effort is put to waste. Without our salvation we are useless. Before I became a CHRISTian I thought that u could be a 70% christian and still get to heaven. I claimed to be a christian but didn’t bear the fruit a true Christian does. We need to make sure that the people around us are aware that we are either 100% for God, or not Christians.

There is no such thing as being “kind of” on God’s team. If I am living my life for him, EVERYTHING I do must glorify him, not just sometimes, or when It is easy. I need to commit to serving the LORD in everything even when it is difficult, when I will have to struggle and be persecuted. However, I know and trust God that he’ll get me through everything the world throws at me!

    PRAISE THE LORD!!! MARANATHA!!!!

  78. ELLA says:

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

I guess I gots to be on His team, if I am not I will perish for eternity, that would be devastating.

  79. Adam Duarte [True North - 2010] says:

34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Jesus tells it like it is here. The condition of a man’s heart is reflected in his words and the way he speaks to or about others. If someone is in Christ, their tongue should reflect it. Important for me to remember – sometimes it’s a struggle for me to control what I say, but I have to remember that Christ is in my heart, and the overflow of that should be edifying and not derogatory.

  80. Joy Talcott says:

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

Like everyone has been saying, this is very convicting and it shows us the importance of our words. My prayer as I read this verse and when it talks about a good tree bearing good fruit is Psalm 139:23-24…that the Lord would search me, see if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. May my life be bearing good fruit so as to reflect the amazing work of Christ.

  81. Crystal says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

These verses stood out to me the most. I liked the part that says “out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks” because it is so true. Our heat and actions show if you are for or against God. People on God’s team should be showing good fruit in their lives.

  82. Jenae on her itouch says:

Verse 30 is so true. We either love God or hate him. We can’t be luke warm everyone just needs to pick a side.

  83. Mike says:

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

Knowing that one say we will be held accountable for everything we say and do is a huge motivation to make sure we are living right! It’s a reason not to even mess with sin. When we forget this, it can be so easy to fall into “small” sins such as slander, lying, etc. because it seems like no big deal. But in the light that the perfect and holy God who absolutely hates sin knows about it, had to pay for it in blood, and will one day remind us of it is quite sobering and puts sin in its proper perspective. I need to make every effort to guard my tongue, staying far away from sin in my pursuit of holiness.

  84. Dan Blankenship TRUE NORTH says:

    Matthew 12

36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

How critically important it is that we are mindful of our every word. One day we will stand in the midst of a Holy God and give testimony to every ill willed word that we speak. Shouldn’t this revelation make us to stop and evaluate every thought and word that comes from our mouth? As we know our words are powerful and can be used for evil or for great good.

Matt 15:18-19 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

If our lips continue in evil with foolish talk and coarse joking than our hearts are corrupted and require the renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 139:4 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

I am Thankful for the Lamb of God who paid dearly for my sin.

30″He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters

Jesus Christ came to the earth bearing a hard message. you are either on God’s team or Satan’s team. Lately I have been listening to some sermons on Hell. Based on the description of the eternal excruciating torment people will suffer in hell day after day after day after day as people are being punished for their sins forever. This hell is a place you want to avoid at all costs and if you are loving person you don’t want your friends. family schoolmates or co-workers to perish in eternal fire. This Thanksgiving most have the oppurtunity to get together with family, aunt, uncles, cousins. And if your family is like my family not everyone has been saved from hell. Lets spread the good news so our families will have chance to repent of their sins and escape an eternity in hell.

  86. jordan Anderson says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

This verse is awesome. people will see through to our hearts by the things we do and say. The Lord says that out of the heart the mouth speaks, i want to fill myself up with the Lord as much as i can, so that it is just overflowing in my life and out of my mouth.

    (:

  87. Bryan Sonksen says:

    I read…

I liked this chapter because even though the Pharisees were supposed to be experts in the law, Jesus was still smarter than them because He is supernatural. The Pharisees, instead of admitting their epic fail, called Him demonic. Praise God that He is more powerful than us so that He can save us from hell.

  88. Zach senger 2010 says:

I just love how in this chapter Jesus is doing all of these amazing things and the pharisees are trying to make Him look bad or catch Him doing something wrong but every time that they thry to accuse Him He comes back with an amazing answer!!!! They had to fall back on and just call him one of the devils people!! THis is so crazy and shows that Jesus was real and all that He was doing was legit and true!!!!

  89. Jacob Antoun 2010 says:

21 In his name the nations will put their hope.

Our only hope is in Jesus Christ. He is the alpha and omega, the beginning and end…. He is the one who will be the ruler and victor in the end! This verse reminds me of Chris Tomlins song, Jesus Messiah, where it goes “All our hope is in You, All the glory to You, God, The light of the world”

  90. Steffen Eriksen says:

34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

The Pharisees tried to be seen as the righteous guys, pretending to do good by tricking Jesus. As Pastor Bobby talked about last weekend, both them and the Sadducees tried playing “Stump Jesus”. They tried to make themselves look smart by making Jesus out to be a fool, but they got dominated in that game by Jesus. In this chapter the Pharisees are trying to be so literal with the old law that they can catch Jesus. But every time they think they have caught Him, Jesus shows them up. All of these words from their lips are generated in their hearts. They spoke the words they did because their heart desired them to be glorified and Jesus to be made low. This is a pretty big fact. Words that come out of people’s mouths are just the things that they feel at that moment. Their words reflect the inward attitude of their heart. All the words that come out of my mouth are a reflection of my heart, too. Knowing this, I need to be careful to keep my heart pure, for that will lead to a purity in my speech, the words that I use and the things that I say. Whatever is stored up in my heart dictates how I talk. I need to not let sin build up in my life and blot out my heart, for that will lead to sinful speech. Instead, I need to always have a pure heart focused on God, not idols, and repent from any sin I commit right away, nor letting it fester in my life. This way the overflow of my heart will always be to love God and live for Him with all that I am!

  91. AL∑C™ 2010 says:

18″Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory.
21In his name the nations will put their hope.”

    Wow What a powerful prophecy

  92. Karsten Klein says:

11He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?

12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Just like we evangelize every saturday night, we do good on the sabbath. Its awesome how Jesus can speak the truth in such a reasonable way and so its easy to understand! This verse really shows how wise Jesus is.
