Romans 10

10:1 Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

The Message of Salvation to All

For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) or “‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for

“Their voice has gone out to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world.”

19 But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says,

“I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation;
with a foolish nation I will make you angry.”

20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say,

“I have been found by those who did not seek me;
I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.”

21 But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” (ESV)

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:

Most of the time the Word of God is in our hearts, but how often is it on our lips? Talking about the Gospel and the goodness of God should be a result of our salvation, and not something we keep hidden because we are afraid of an awkward moment or people not liking us. The truth of the gospel is the only way that man is saved from his sin; that is why we (me included) need to work on overcoming our pathetic social fears and boldly procliam the holliness, goodness, and faithfulness to all. Rom. 1:16

  2. Kyle Johnson (KJ) says:

11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

Wow! Anyone who trusts in the name of the Lord: Jesus Christ, will never be put to shame. It will never ever happen, it is promised in the Bible! That blows my mind thinking about that, this encourages me to have a stronger trust in Christ because I know that I can never be put to shame when I trust in Him! It also reminds me of David and Goliath.

  3. Ashlyn Vidal says:

    Great comments Hunter and Kyle!

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

This verse shows that it is not our works that earn us a spot in Heaven. No! But believing and confessing is what will get us into heaven. Because of Jesus dieing for us we can be in the glory of our Heavenly Father one day:D

Romans 12:11 Never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.

  4. Eric Walker says:

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

These are great verses. They show how good works don’t get you to heaven as some religions believe, having faith in God is what gets you to heaven. Once we give our hearts to God and trust in him, there should be a total turn around in our lives (justification by faith). Another verse that stuck out to me was:

13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

This is one of my favorite verses. It shows how God will save ANYONE. It doesnt matter if you are the worst of the worst, always sinning, God will save you, you just have to believe in him and repent of your sins. Thank God for saving our sins!!!!!!!

  5. Murphy Danahy says:

4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Once again, the bible shows us that it is not by works that we are saved! We are saved only by Christ. Following the law is o longer enough. Christ is the only way.

  6. Beth Lauder says:

15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

I love it when quotations are used from the Old Testament in the New Testament. This quotation is from Isaiah 52:7. It is referring to the people who brought the Israelites the good news of their imminent release from captivity in Babylon. In this passage, Paul is saying that those of us who preach the gospel are beautiful because through our obedience to share the gospel with the lost they are released from their captivity to sin. The Israelites release from Babylon relieved them of earthly bondage, but when we repent of our sins and put our faith in Christ we are released from the earthly and spiritual bondage that sin has over us. This is an inspiration for us to get our beautiful feet out there and bring the gospel to the lost!

  7. Bobby Blakey says:

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

This line of reasoning is a great motive for evangelism. People need to hear about Jesus and we are the ones to tell them. In fact, we have been sent to do so!

15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Jesus has commissioned us to make disciples. Sadly, sometimes it seems like our feet are ugly, like we aren’t that eager to talk with others. I pray that God will use us at True North to carry the name of Jesus Christ to the streets and schools of Orange County!

  8. Bethany Gonzales DOVIPER!!! says:

I’m wondering why we have been lacking on comments these days. What happened to the 70 people that were on? Anyways, great comments everyone! :D
1Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.
Our hearts desire should be exactly like this. Are we totally focused on God throughout our day or do we get distracted? People are dying all around us, like Bobby reminded us this morning when he mentioned his principal’s car accident. OUr prayers should be focused on others and their salvation, making sure that the have a repentant heart, that it’s God’s will, that they may be saved, and that they may grow spiritually throughout their entire lives. God wants to see His people saved and in some cases that may only happen through you. What’s the worst that can happen, am I right? :D
4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
And of course, like I said before, He wants EVERYONE to be saved. His love is never-ending, overflowing, and it never fails. So lets show God’s love to others by telling them the gospel! Let us be thankful this week that God has sent His son to die for us and that we are saved! :D

  9. Jenaee (= says:

10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

I love this verse!! Its in our hearts that we believe, but we need to tell others with our mouth that we do!!

Come on guys get on SOTD!!! 8 PEOPLE??? THATS WEAK!!!!! Lets encourage everyone to get on!!

  10. Nachoooooooooooo says:

14How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

This is where we come in. It is our job to share the gospel so people can hear and believe. Salvation starts with evangelism. Romans 10:17 says:
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”
We need to be faithful and do our part in evangelism.

  11. jeff Modugno says:

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Praise God that he sent Jesus to die in our place. Iam so glad that all we need to do is call on the Lord and we will be saved. We don’t need to do good works.

  12. Adam Duarte says:

11 As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

This is an empowering verse; that we who trust in Christ will never be shamed for our trust and our belief. It’s a great motivation for those of us who have trouble talking to people about Christ or defending our beliefs – as long as we trust in Him, we won’t ever have to worry about not knowing what to say.

  13. Max says:

11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

Like Eric said, this shows that the religions that are works-based are wrong. UInfortunately, many people don’t get that works won’t get you into heaven. Being a good person won’t either. Even religions that are like christianity, like catholosism, are wrong because they view works as a way to get into heaven. “For it is not by works you have been saved, but by grace”

  14. A person who already commented but because no one is commenting I will comment again (KJ) says:

1Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

God wants everyone to be saved and we should have the same heart as the Lord because we don’t want to see people be in torrment for eternity. We got to evangelize to them, preaching the life saving powerful message of the Gospel and pray for them to be saved and that their hearts won’t be hardened nor divided.

  15. Gabriel Voris says:

1Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

We as Christains also need to be praying that the people in Orange County also get saved. But first we need to get out there and spread the word of Christ so that people may hear the word and turn to Him. Without us telling them, who would tell them?

  16. Natasha :) says:

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

This says it all of how to be saved!! Look how easy God made it for us! He did all the hard work, like…. DIED ON THE CROSS AND PUT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR SINS UPON HIM! Now all we have to do is just accept that into our hearts and well of course confess (REPENT!) with your mouth and you shall be saved! Isn’t that glorious news to hear! Isn’t it just wonderful news that you could possibly hear that you will not parish in hell if you do these steps! I don’t know about you but im just getting all excited of how wonderful heaven would be like standing in the prencense of God in awe. But great scripture of the day! Thanx so much! Luv you all, Bye Bye :)

  17. It's Daniel Yo's Dad. says:

Wow is there five more encouraging verses in the Bible than these?

9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

11 As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,

13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

So no matter what remember that the Bible was written for all, and the hope that we have in the Gospel is priceless.

  18. christopher eriksen says:

21But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

Even though Paul is talking about Israel in this verse, it can also apply to us. We have all sinned and rejected God, and He has shown incomprehensible grace by loving us still and providing salvation through the death of His Son. So if we find persecution in evangelizing we need to remember how much God sacrificed for us so that we could be saved, and instead of continuing to be disobedient by keeping quiet, we need to spread the Gospel until our dying breathing, urging people to turn from their sin and repent.

  19. Luke Melrose!!!!!!!!!!!! says:

9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Here is an important verse! Do you really belive in your heart that Jesus was a real pearson and God’s son? and that He came to save us from our sins? We tend to somtimes look at Jesus’ life as a story in the Bible. And we dont really think deep about it and realize that it really happened! Jesus WAS a REAL person and he DID die on the cross for us. Not only that, but He rose again! He conquered death!

Sometimes hearing the same old story about Jesus’ life over and over again can really get us to stop thinking about what it means. We need to relook at this and realize that Jesus has died for you and rose again! Hallelujiah!…(I dont think I spelt that right).

  20. Brett says:

15.) And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Mmmmmm…I’m definitely tracking with that Bobby!!!

  21. laura j says:

11″As the scripture says,”Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

how encouraging! I like this verse, Jesus is there to support us in every situation. even if we mess up. I like this verse to because if you try and talk to people about Christ but they blow it off like it’s no big deal and they don’t care, Jesus has got our back. and if they don’t care Jesus would rather have us try than do nothing at all.

  22. Haley Litz says:

14How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

People need to hear the bad news of their sin and the good news of Christ. We are commissioned to be ambasadors for Christ! Let’s be doing this at our high schools.

  23. Alison R says:

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:
9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We have to be proclaiming the Gospel with earth-shaking boldness! We’ve been so blessed to know the Bible and have the chance to study it on a daily basis. As we learn the more and more about the Bible, its our job to go out and tell everyone else! We have to remember that telling others about Christ is the reason we’re still here. I love that because it gives my life purpose!

  24. Angela Voris :) says:

hey i really like verses 10, 11, 13. They are all great verses but my favorite out of all of them is verse…..10

“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. ”

this was a great verse because it really shows the truth. your mouth is sinful and it should be cut off as it says in the bible if it causes you to sin then cut if off. but it is your mouth and mind that can help you speak with God and connect w/ him.

  25. Taylin Reinholtz says:

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:
9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Thank God for the gift of faith. I love the fact that we aren’t saved by good “deeds” but rather saved because of faith. Obviously, if we truly believe, our actions should express it, but it’s nice to know that if we make a mistake, God will forgive us and continue to love us just the same.

  26. Sarah G.! says:

12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,

This verse reminds me of something Pastor Mike said this morning!! It doesn’t matter what your background is or what your “spiritual resume” looks like, everyone is a sinner and the Lord blesses ALL who call on him!! None of us deserve this grace and love, and I praise God for his GLORIOUS mercy, and the blessings he has given me!! :D

  27. Evan McKee says:

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Jesus has paid the price for our sins and all we need to do is confess that he Lord of our life and believe in him and we will be saved. we need to get the message out to others this week so that they can have the relationship with God that we are so fortunate to have.

  28. vsunshine says:

    Great comments everyone!

  29. Dan Lauder says:

17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

Faith comes through hearing the real deal Gospel message. It doesn’t come when we water it down or reinterpret the Bible in light of our experiences. Let us all be committed to sharing the Biblical Gospel!

  30. DVworkum says:

mmm God can save anyone…and we can tell anyone about him with his help…I know that there are people I don’t talk to for various reasons and I pray that the Lord would give me courage and boldness and a heart for the lost….all of them, not just the ones that seem easy

  31. Nelson says:

11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

Okay I am not too sure what this verse is saying. I know many people who trust in God and are “put to shame” for their believing it. If someone could help me understand what this verse is saying or if I’m taking this out of context. I’ll check back on this later or you guys can facebook me. Thanks.

  32. Leah says:

13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Much like I’ve been saying for the past few posts. If you trust in the Lord our God with all your heart…you will be saved and be with Him in heaven when your time comes.

And I’m not to sure but on Nelson’s question regarding verse 11. Are they trying to say that God will never put you to shame even though your people will?

  33. It's Daniel Yo's Mom says:

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

How can we ever doubt our Lord and Savoir?! He gives us EVERYTHING and goes to the trouble of reassuring us constantly in Hiis word!
    How great is our God??

  34. Curtis says:

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

this verse clearly points out the necessity for evangelism. no one will see a need to repent unless they know what the consequences of their sin is. we need to get God’s Word out there!

  35. Ryan Damato says:

4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

The Old Testament has set up the coming of Christ perfectly! It gave everyone all kinds of warning and hints to the coming messiah. It’s amazing to see how many people knew that or at least heard it and then completely look away when Christ comes. The bible tells us that following Christ is difficult but the hope that we have in doing so is more than worth it. The easiest thing in the bible to see is that all the prophets point to Christ in great detail. People always ask “where’s the proof?” It’s in 39 books that point to him and then a bunch more in the next 27 books.. The only recordings in history that actually predict events. So why is it so hard for people to place their faith in Christ?? Because of the response that is necessary to show that their faith is real!! Praise God for showing me the truth of his righteousness!

  36. Bobby Blakey says:

Hey Nelson, The verse you mentioned is actually a quote from Isaiah 28:16 and 49:23. It is also quoted in the previous chapter Romans 9:33. The context makes it clear that because Israel stumbled over the Messiah it opened up salvation to the Gentiles. Any Gentile who trusts in Christ will not be put to shame or disappointed as the NASB translates it. The point her is that some people reject the Messiah but those who trust in Him will always be rewarded and will never regret it.

Hope this helps and hope your back is feeling better soon bro!

  37. Janiel V says:

12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,

13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

In God’s eyes, i think, that all people, all nations, are the same to him. the only difference is that there are Christians and non-Christians. Don’t hang out at the fence, Follow God’s word. enter the narrow path in the road that is life leading to the Kingdom of God.
