The Cost of Following Jesus
18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. 19 And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 21 Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 22 And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
Jesus Calms a Storm
23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”
Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
28 And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. 29 And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” 30 Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. 31 And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” 32 And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. 33 The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. (ESV)

37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Here, Jesus is pretty much saying that there is so much that God offers us and that is there for the taking, including our eternal salvation. However there are few people that actually work to get this and go out to retrieve it. Jesus tells us to ask the “Lord of the harvest” (AKA God) to send out workers to harvest the field. I should be, and am constantly, praying for a revival at Dana Hills and that God would send His workers out to spread the Word of God across the school, so they can enjoy the gift of eternal life.

36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
This passage is kindof sad because it is so true! The world is lost, and I’d imagine that that statement was even more true back when he said it–when there was no knowledge of a savior.
Seeing all of the miracles that he performed here simply amazes me, and I find it interesting what the people of the time attributed it to; some of them laughed at the thought of it(v.24), and some of them called him demon-possessed (v. 34)
It’s sad, really. but i’m not especially surprised. That’s how the world was then, and it seems that the world isn’t remarkably different since then.
34But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”
Hmm. OK. Well? This is just the very kind of ignorant, irrational, and ill-founded thinking that ALL of us have before Christ takes up residence inside of us. We will say ANYthing to justify our sin–ANYthing that might allow us to continue in our selfishness.
The only thing we can do as redeemed and awakened believers in Christ, is OBEY and PRAY. Obey Him in all that He commands of His believers in His Word, and pray for His Holy Spirit to massage and use the seeds we plant in obedience to Him, so that more may come to know Christ, and the roots that sprout may grow deep into the hearts of all who hear His Word.
This is a WAR, people. A full-blown war. There is no Switzerland–no neutral country/ground. We’re either IN, or we’re OUT. Obey and pray if we’re IN…
GIRLS’ WORKSHOP TODAY: 12-2:30PM AT CHURCH!!!
*Lots of shrilly girl cheering. No guttural, manly grunting.
I just love reading about Jesus’ earthly ministry; to think that Jesus actually lived and breathed on this earth like we did just blows my mind! I can’t even imagine what it would have been like to see Him heal people, cast out demons, and to hear Him speak the Word from His mouth, sometimes people are quick to say “if I saw Jesus then I would believe”, but the reality is, that even the people who SAW Jesus in His earthly human form crucified Him…it is a constant reminder that it is by grace that we are saved, by the power of God opening our eyes and drawing us to Himself. Thank you Jesus!!!
36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
I need to be like Jesus and have compassion on the wicked. Sometimes I look at people who are not saved and look down on them because of the things they do. Their sin is wrong but Jesus still had compassion on them. He healed the sick and preached the good news. I need to do the same. The harvest is plenty in Orange County, now we just need people to work the harvest! Look how much Compass has grown in the past couple of years. I need to be actively working the harvest and praying that God sends more people to help.
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.
I love this verse because of how they went around sharing the good news. Now i know this is a big one for all of us. Because in High School, if you share the gospel or even say your a christian, you WILL be persecuted. You just need to remember to always go to God for help, because he WILL help you out at that time of need, and will be next to you the whole time. So put your faith in God and go share the good news, because God IS WORTH IT!!! :D
36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew highlights the compassion of Jesus over and over again in his book. This verse stood out to to me because if Jesus was characterized by showing compassion to others it begs the question, “Am I?” The standard of Jesus’ compassion is what I must strive for. I must care for others, think of them first, ad let their hurts become my hurts. I will have to fight against my sinful nature to do that. My flesh is mostly concerned with me, but the Holy Spirit within me helps me fight my flesh and show compassion to others.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
This verse is such a great reminder that there are so many people out there that need to hear the Gospel and we need to be bold enough to share our faith!
36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
I should be compassionate to those who are made fun of, teased, or being put down. I should stand up for them as Christ stands up for me, and be a friend or at least someone who cares because sometimes something so small can have a big impact. As for the crowds of unbelievers in this world, I need to keep constantly praying for their transformation of heart and that their souls will be saved. It hurts to see lost sheep, especially if you’re attached to some of them as friends. I’ve learned that as I pray for those who don’t yet truly know God, even if they reject the Word when I’ve spoken to them about it, I need to keep trying–perserverance is key :) Sometimes a lost sheep will wander in many of the wrong fields, but his shepherd can still manage to find him.
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
i just love this because AGAIN jesus is teaching faith and because the woman had faith she was healed! We can do this with our everyday lives. Putting faith in jesus can change everything. Even the little things that we think we can handle.
How we all need to see Jesus, like the bleeding women, as the answer to our need!
20Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
Jesus commends this woman for her faith because it was faith in action. She not only thought about touching his cloak, she went out and touched it. This took a lot of guts as she risked slowing Jesus down (he was on his way to help a prominent ruler’s daughter) and being ridiculed by the crowds. Real faith will lead to action. Acknowledging things in our head like “this would be good if I were to do ______ right now” but taking no action is not the kind of faith that this woman had whom Jesus praised. Today I want to act on every good intention that I have and put my faith into action!
34But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.
Imagine seeing Jesus Christ perform miracles and then basically you shrug your shoulders and attribute his powers to demons. Pure Craziness. So Close yet so far away. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Our job is to share the gospel and when we face rejection and persecution, just remember that Jesus Christ himself was rejected sharing the gospel. Rejection although painful, is going to be part of every Christians life.
You won’t see that on an Hallmark Card!. (yes i borrowed the line from PM)
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment. it is important to have faith like this woman. i need to work on trusting in what God has planned for my life.
I just want to say that you in True North Are Awesome!! I am so glad that you are all in the word!! Truth North ROCKS!!!
ELLO… I read
I like verse 37,”Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”
I like this verse because it talks about the workers or the ones who are sharing GOD’s word and making disciples. There is never not an opportunity to share the Gospel so therefore I am without an excuse when I don’t share GOD’s word to someone who isn’t a CHRISTian. I need to work harder to share GOD’s word to those who are lost.
CYA
I have been thinking about this passage all morning, and one thing the Lord has brought me to remember, is that He saves whom He saves. Not even because that particular individual asks to be saved, but often on the beseeching of their loved ones, and their loved ones’ faith. He HEARS our prayers. He ANSWERS our petitions. We MUST seize more of our time to pray for others’ salvation. Like the Dad who begged Jesus to save his daughter. Or the demon-possessed man who couldn’t speak. Jesus DOES have compassion. Let us be in prayer for our loved ones, and even those who are not so endearing to us…what a humbling and convicting demonstration recorded for us to take note of, and live out, ourselves…
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Jesus’ miracles are so amazing! It reminds me that anything is possible with Him. I need to have faith in Him like those sick people he healed. If he can raise a girl from the dead, he can help with any problems I have that are so miniscule in comparison. What Jesus said to his disciples reminds me I need to evangelize more. So often we get comfortable with our lives and forget we need to be bold and take risks for Jesus. A few harsh words from someone rejecting the gospel are nothing compared to being crucified. I have no reason to be afraid. I need to be more open with my friends and share my faith with them. I should be a worker sent out into the field because the harvest is worth it for God’s glory.
24he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.
This got me thinking about how silly it must of been to hear that, how sad it is for them to not believe, how I probably wouldn’t have believed him back then because he’s like a chris angel now kind of thing…well except He’s perfect and He’s God XD, and I was thinking about where the girl went when she had died. It must of been hard to believe that Jesus was the son of God…in fact, I think God placed me here during this time period because He knew that I wouldn’t have believed. And where did the girl go after she had died? Did she go to Hell and experience that for a couple of min.? wowzers! That would be verrrry scary!…It’s definitely sad for all those people who didn’t believe…it makes me think of these two girls in Mr. Cox’s tutorial/stats class and how they make fun of Jesus..mocking His name. At first, I despised it, Truthfully, I wanted to punch them in the face. XD but now that I see how God reacted to their unbelief it makes me despise, 1 my sin, and 2 their sin and how I neeeeeeeed to be saddened by the thought that if they don’t turn around they will end up in Hell…and whooooo will tell them the Gospel? :) I’ll be working on that. Steeephanieeeee keeeep me accountable! :D
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
Wow she had so much faith. This woman was so brave. She knew that Jesus could heal her. She didn’t think that He could but she knew for sure and took action. I want to follow her example and trust God knowing that He can do everything. I was just thinking the other day that I was worrying over useless things like my grades and college but then I realized that God does miracles, He created the earth and here I am stressing and worrying over little things. I have to have faith trusting and knowing that I can leave it in His hands instead of taking it into my own.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
This is still true to this day. Infact the harvest is even bigger, but the workers are still few. Or atleast they are not working to their full ability. We should be taking every chance we get to help bring people to understand what they need. We cannot save them, but we can point them in the right direction. I should be spending more time helping God’s kingdom to grow rather then any other useless thing like tv or videogames. I need to step up my work and start working on the harvest God has left for me.
Harvest….workers….
Yes, Bethany (twin #1, alphabetically)! That’s exactly the perspective we need toward the truly lost–sympathy toward them, BUT hate toward their (& any) sin. I have to remember Paul’s hate for the church, even though he thought he was truly pleasing God. The biggest thing Paul’s testimony reminds me of is that God can take ANYONE & draw him/her to him! I’ve been praying for one (& now both) of those girls for about 5 weeks now, trying to get her to take Bible Lit.! Let’s see what God does with this harvest if we prove faithful workers!
Matthew 8:27-29 “As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”
I thought this was ironic. On SOTD yesterday Jesus rebuked the Pharisees, calling them blind even though they could physically see. Today, Jesus heals the physically blind men so that they could see physically as well as spiritually. It would seem that those who claim to have 20/20 vision (righteousness) like the Pharisees are actually blind to their sin, but those who acknowledge their poor vision (sin) clearly have sight. Then Jesus says: “According to your faith [you will be healed].”
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
I think this means that there aren’t enough people who are willing to go out and spread the Word to others. Thankfully, i think True North is on top of it with campus lunches and evangalism nights! Let’s keep spreading the Word to increase the workers!
35Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness
This is such an amzing chapter to see at that Christ did on this earth and to know that we had a great God who loves His people and that He still even takes care of us today. I had a question about this verse though. When it says that Jesus ‘preached the good news of the kingdom’ does this mean he was preaching the Gospel? that He was telling them that He will die on the cross and raise again and explained how that will cover their sins and if they have faith they will be forgiven?
Hello everyone! :) well this just amazes me that Jesus can just heal all these people by touching them. It just shows how poweful and amazing Jesus is. This passage makes me want to be stronger in my faith toward the Lord :)
23When Jesus entered the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd,
24he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.
25After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.
Ok, before I comment on this verse I have a serious question. Me and my dad have been in a theological “discussion” about treasure in heaven. I believe that when the bible says that we should store up treasure in heaven where moths cannot and rust cannot destroy, it meant just that, treasure, or something that you earn for yourself. Not earning heaven, but perhaps like, you do good things, and in heaven good things happen because of that. I’ve always done good things because GOD commands it, but I always thought it was cool that perhaps this good would pay off even more than if I just didn’t. Something like that. My dad believes that that belief is sinful, and that in heaven everyone is exactly the same. You don’t get any treasure for good deeds done after salvation, everyone gets exactly the same. You do good deeds, as he put it and loosely quoted, “because you can never repay GOD for what he did, and therefore you should do it just because you’re grateful.” I get the whole gratefulness deal, but what I don’t get is that how can you say that there is no further reward for good deeds, when the bible obviously says there is? Am I missing something? Secondly he says that in heaven it will be totally different than what we have here, and that there will be nothing to work for. You will have a strong body without working out, you’ll be good at everything without any practice. I just don’t think that sounds right. That sounds like hell to me, where there is nothing to work for or look forward to. Nothing to get better at. That doesn’t sound like heaven to me. Once again, am I missing something? Could someone help me find some verses that clarify this? Thanks. Okay, now for the verse, this whole chapter had been primarily about faith. In many different ways, JESUS shows us undeserving people who are healed just by faith. I need to centralize my thinking around that sort of faith.
30and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”
31But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
What I find amazing here is that…even when Jesus warns the men not to tell people about the miracle…they can’t help but tell everyone…it is sad that this isn’t they way Christians act today. I am not saying that it is good to disobey Jesus’s orders but we have recieved the greatest miracle of all…salvation…we are even told to proclaim the truth about this miracle and about Christ but still we fail to do so…I want to shout the good news of my salvation on the rooftops for all to here…and tell everyone the good news of the gosple of Jesus Christ!
In all these miracles, and healing of diseases, I see the concept of faith. Some people think that faith is nothing but hoping that something is true, they use phrases like “leap of faith”. However, faith is differently defined in these miracles. Just take a look at Matthew 8:21-22. A woman boldly said that if she touch Jesus’s cloak, she will will be healed. Notice that she didn’t say things like I hope to be healed, or I might be healed. She said that I will be healed. Jesus then says that her faith healed her. This is an example of faith, not hoping, but knowing. And we see this concept throughout this passage.
In this passage there are a few instances where people’s faith heals them. It’s interesting to a draw a comparison between that and putting your trust in Christ to be cleansed of your sins. It’s all about trusting Him, and believing that He really is who he says he is!
Also, Murphy: I think that in Matthew 6:19-21 when Jesus is talking about storing up treasures in Heaven, he’s talking about it in a literal sense. If we serve the Lord here on earth and give Him our all, we’ll be rewarded for it in Heaven. And I don’t think Heaven is going to be like a communist society, where everyone is perfectly equal. There’s going to be rewards based on how well we served the Lord while we lived on earth. Some people are going to get more than others. That doesn’t mean that there will be jealousy going on obviously, since there will be no sin in Heaven – but I’m thinking it’ll be a kind of “That’s a great thing to have” deal.
I don’t think people should really get hung up on the semantics of Heaven though. Whenever people ask me “Well how good is Heaven really going to be?” or “Hell can’t be THAT bad, can it?”, I just tell them that the bottom line is Heaven = somewhere you want to go, and Hell = somewhere you don’t want to go.
36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
This verse really stood out to me today. It says here that Jesus had compassion on the people. It made me check my own life and ask myself if I have that same attitude toward others. We need to look at non believers as lost sheep and want nothing more than to share the good news with them. We were all there before and by God’s grace we’ve come to repentance and faith. No one is too difficult for Christ to save. Let’s have faith that when we share God’s word, he is indeed working in their hearts.
Jesus is so powerful, He can do anything. He can calm a storm, take demons out of people, and die on a cross to save everyone who believes. I am so glad that He is my God and I can trust in Him.
22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
Through this entire chapter Jesus is calling for people to have steadfast faith. It’s so awesome to know that because of my faith in Jesus He has healed me of the death-bringing disease of sin. I have been made well through Christ! I’m so thankful that God rewards all of our faithfulness. I’m saying a prayer of gratitude and praise this afternoon for Jesus’ healing act on the cross. I’m also praying that God will continue to give me boldness in proclaiming His name and telling others the good news of the gospel. I need to be a worker in His harvest field!
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
This reminds me of how Bobby constantly reminds us at TN to be praying for revivals at our high schools. It says to do that right in this verse! The harvest is plentiful and the workers are few, so let’s pray fro revival on all the OC high schools! Laguna Hills really needs one! I’m going to talk to people this week at school, and invite tthem to our campus lunch after thanksgiving!
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
This verse made me think of leadership. God knows we need a leader and Jesus is the human example of the perfect leader. Like a good leader, Jesus wants to help us get on the right path and help us grow, despite what our path was before knowing Him. He guides us in our daily lives, but allows us to make our own decisions. And when we make mistakes, He then finds a way to use them as a learning point. He never boasts about what He can do, and doesn’t want to be known for what He is capable of, but how He can change our lives for the better. An absolutely perfect leader.
Throughout this passage, I saw a pattern of faith, how incredible Jesus was in preaching and healing, and a message of spreading the good news!! All of these things are fantastic things one can apply to life by trusting in God in everything, praising God for His son Jesus, and spreading the gospel to everyone we know!! Do I do these things in my life?? I know that I struggle with some of these areas in my life, and this scripture encourage me to go out and do what His word says!! God deserves my all!! :D
Haha Sarah I am also twin #1(birth order) :]
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
WOW!!! The power of faith! God is all powerful that when the women touched His cloak, he knew her and her faith and she was healed.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Very true! We need more harvesters of the faith. People are hungry and are going to die unless we spread the news of His love and wrath and mercy and truth. I want fellow farmers up in heaven with me celebrating our King and praising Him for all He has done! Glory be to God, may we spread His word!!!
Girl’s Workshop was amazing, so was the new moon/CODMW2(for the guys) sermon!
I need to love God and have Him first so that there is NO 2nd place! :]
***MARANATHA!!!***
This is a really great chapter of showing how amazing god is. He healed all those people when they were said to be doomed. This means to me that u shud always trust n god with your prayers because god is so amazing that he will always come through if u believe in him
30 … Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”
31 But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
These formerly-blind men were so excited about what Jesus had done for them that they could not stop themselves from telling and showing others. As excited as they were to be healed from their physical blindness, we as Christians have been healed from our spiritual blindness! So we should be overflowing with excitement and urgency to share this with others. Sadly, as time passes many believers lose this excitement and start taking their salvation for granted. I need to reflect on and remember what it is I have been saved from – and the great cost it came at – so that my thankfulness and fervor will be renewed and I can boldly go out telling others about the redemptive work of Christ.
I think that all these verse correlate in the way that most of the people either have faith in Jesus healing them or they think it’s just a joke. When Jesus told the family the daughter was merely sleeping and they all laughed, i was just thinking how could anyone ever deny or think Jesus is lying or ‘kidding around?’ God is so powerful and i am so thankful everyday that he sent Jesus down from Heaven to preform wonderful miracles and give us the gift of eternal life!!
Jesus’s miracles are amazing. Even the way He has changing my life amazes me.
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
Knowing that just by having faith, anything is possible.
Oh and verse 22 made me think of this verse:
(Matt. 17:20) “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
I think that this is a good verse that shows how we are without God. We are all sheep without a sheperd, lost in our sins. Jesus is our sheperd “the Lord is my sheperd i a shall not want..” Psalm 23. when we put our faith in him, he guides us and saved us from sin as a sheperd guides and saves his sheep from the wolves.
great comment Lexi =)
I totally agree. Jesus’ miracles are amazing. Many people put so much confidence in the “wisdom” of scientists and doctors, but they cannot heal the blind like Jesus could. So we need to really think: How much confidence and faith are we putting in the world and how much are we giving to Jesus Christ? Our heart cannot be split.
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
This is so true. Sometimes it is hard to witness to people, but it must be done. This verse encourages me to witness more often because the harvest is so plentiful. Every day at school I can witness to like twenty people.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
There are plenty of people out there to evangelize to, but the number of non-believers far exceeds that of the Christians. For this reason we need to spread the gospel as much as we can whenever we can and try to speak God’s word where many people are listening to attract more people so people have a chance to hear God’s word rather than just be passed by. A lot of times at evangelism night, I kinda shy away from people that dont look like they would be happy with what I have to say, but the truth is, he or she could be the one that is willing to listen. Always take the opportunites whenever they come up, which is something I struggle with!!!
God give me the strength to be more bold for you and spread your word to everyone I can!!!!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got back from evangelism! WOOHOOO LOVE IT!!!!

21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment
This woman is a great example for us in her faith. We need to have the faith that, in Christ, anything can happen. If we know and truely believe this, our live should show it, and it should be apparent that we trust to Gid everything inn our lives and give Him the control.
This entire chapter talks about Jesus doing miracles and healing people, and yet this same people who saw him do all these miricals still did not beilieve he was the son of god and the only way to heaven, we Have not seen him do miricals but we still need to trust him and put ou faith in him
c u all at true north tommorow morning
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
i love how much faith this woman has. she knows that only if she touches Jesus’ cloak, she will be healed. this is a great example of what biblical faith looks like. i need to have faith like this woman does. it is important for me not to trust in Christ for just salvation (even though that is a very big thing) but for all things. it may be for a tough situation at school, or trusting Him to work out all things for my good. but whatever the case, i pray that like this woman i would trust wholeheartedly and with full assurance in Christ for all things. it is awesome to see how much this woman’s faith can do. i pray that i have unshakable faith and trust in Christ for everything!
Jesus is AWESOME! There is no one better to love than him!
As I read this chapter it is amazing to see all that he is able to accomplish at one time. Healing people and yet being called demon-possessed for it. Preaching the lost. Having compassion on the lost! It is great to read about Jesus so I can realize how worthy he is of my love. No one compares to him.
Working on improving the “New Moon” Sermon tomorrow morning to inspire all of us at True North to love Jesus even more! Hope to see you there!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Ooooh boy this is this true! Many people, even people who call themselves Christians, do not live, are not workers, for Jesus Christ. They walk though life with all these people who need to hear the gospel but never share it! I want to be a worker of Jesus Christ- one of the select few- so he can do his work through me!
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
We as Christians need to have compassion on others, just as Jesus did. We need to share the gospel with nonbelievers and trust in the Lord to work in their hearts.
24 he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.
Nothing is beyond our Lord, not even the resurrection of the dead (as we are shown several times) we need to realize that He is a powerful being. We need to have the fear of God and dare not to mock anything He says He can or will do.
28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied.
I thought this verse was great because it really pretty much defines what faith is. These guys were blind, most likely beyond hope of a cure. They heard about Jesus, however, and they went to Him. They really believed that He was able to heal them, and so He healed them. This, in addition to several other examples that we’ve been reading over the past few days, shows that Jesus really primarily came to the aid of the people who trusted in Him, who genuinely believed that He was able.
Lord, please give me that same kind of real faith in You that these blind men had.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
There are so many opportunities to Serve that I personally pass up and I have acknowledged that and have been praying and committed myself to changing that.
20Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
In reading these three verses it shows tremendous faith that this woman had beleiving that Jesus would heal her. And because of her faith in Him, He did! God is the same yesterday, today and always. These truths can be applied today. Knowing that God has the power to heal and to perform miracles, when i pray i can trust that He hears me. I pray that my faith would continue to grow stronger and stronger when i read His word and apply what i read to my daily walk with God.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
There are so many people out there who need to desperately hear the gospel yet there are so few people who are willing to take it to them. Over the past couple years, I have gotten more and more excited about evangelism and taking the gospel to those who need to hear it. I am reminded day after day of the harvest that each one of us has and how we need to start harvesting before it is too late!
31But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
I believe we are able to do this! So lets go all out and spread the news about Jesus and what he has done for us. Lets starts with our friends and our schools. You will never know what will happen unless you go out there and give it a shot. I know I will start. I know it will not be an easy tasks since people will look at me a different. But, I know it is right. So please help me if you see me struggle or slip away. I would like to stay on the path that God have layed out in front of me. I hope we alll have a safe thanksgiving break and all the families traveling have a safe trip.
Wow, I can’t quote just one verse. What an incredible God! If you wanna talk about an omnipotent person, here’s one for the records. Let’s recap the miracles. Dead girl brought back to life? Amazing. Blind men that can now see? AMAZING. Sick woman who bleeds constantly now healed? AAAHHHHMMAAAAZZZZIIINNNNNGGGGG!!!!! Can you imagine being blind. BLIND. Seeing nothing at all, and then the first man you see is JESUS? WHOA. Talk about heavy.

“37Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”
This has been a verse that I’ve been keeping in mind lately. We can the corrupted, sinful world all around us and we know that the harvest IS plentiful. I need to be bold and utilize the plentiful harvest and spread the seed of the Gospel! I need to pray that God, “the Lord of the harvest” would send out workers into his harvest field so that many more people would repent and join us all in the kingdom of heaven!
Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus is just on a healing/miracle rampage in this chapter!!!! I just can’t believe how so many people don’t have faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus has to do a miracle right in front of their eyes in order for them to believe it and start to have faith. I have many friends that believe Jesus never came and never did any miracles. They have to see everything right in front of their own eyes in order for them to believe it. We have all the proof of this happening right here!!! Anyone who doesn’t believe that the Bible is true needs to go Compass Nights and hear Pastor Mike speak about the origins of the Bible! We have like over 20,000 manuscripts to prove of all this. Some people are just so ignorant and need to start believing and putting their faith in Jesus Christ! Christians should always be looking to tell other people about what Jesus Christ did here on the earth and what we need to do now.
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Jesus is telling the sad truth.. their are so many people in the world who haven’t even heard the gospel, yet many Christians rarely if ever evangelize. I need to commit to evangelizing all the time, whenever I have a chance, whether that be at school, other places, or going on evangelism nights. Lately I have been slacking a bit on evangelism, and I think this is God slapping me in the face! It is so important that as a Christian I tell others the Good News, and it is one of the things God calls us to do. Jesus could come back at any moment, so I need to use the time I still have to tell as many people about him as I can!
Let’s all commit to keeping up posting on SOTD, all through this break! I want to see a consistent 100 a day! How awesome would that be!
PRAISE THE LORD!!! MARANATHA!!!!!!!!
So happy to be back on sotd!!!!!!!!!
v.24 ~ “he said, ‘Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.’ But they laughed at him.”
Even then, when it was Jesus Himself preaching the good news people persecuted Him. They laughed at Him and didn’t believe Him then. so I need to be prepared for people to laugh at me and not believe me. The news He was telling them of was such amazing and good news and yet they didn’t believe Him. We are kind of in a similar position now. We have the best news ever!!(the gospel) and people laugh at us and refuse to believe it.
v.29 ~ “…According to your faith will it be done to you.”
This is soooo straight-forward! If we desire something, we are praying about something but we don’t have faith that God will take care of it, it’s not going to happen. Such a great reminder of how important complete faith in Him is.
v.36 ~ “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
We need to be compassionate and caring towards people in this world who don’t have Jesus as their guide. They are lost and helpless so we should be helping them as much as we can.
v.38 ~ “Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
We need to be praying for people when they go evangelizing or on a mission trip or even just during our everyday lives because we could be leading people to Him. Everyday we have chances to bring people to Him. Everything we do could bring someone to Him. But are we praying for that?
It really stood out to me that when Jesus healed the woman and gave sight to the blind man that he said it was by their faith in him that it would be done. The Lord is entirely trustworthy, he is powerful and perfect–faith in him is rightly placed. Oh, for grace to trust him more!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
This is something that I should be praying for every day. Jesus’ direction doesn’t have an expiration date; it will always be relevant. I am praying that more and more people will be saved each day!
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
This chapter is all about great faith! These people trusted Jesus completely to heal them from their affirmaties. I pray that I would trust in Him completely and that He could accomplish great things through my life as a result of my faith. Praise the Lord that he is completely trustworthy!
Just like Christa said, the faith that the woman and the blind men have is incredible. It challanges me as I read it to view God as capable of anything and for my own faith to grow. I do not want to hear the rebuke of God asking me ye of little faith like the dicpiples last chapter but instead I want God to see my faith as to be as large as the faith of this woman and of the blind men.
solid verse
I read…
I liked this chapter because it showed the power of God. I also liked at the end of the chapter about how Jesus gives us a challenge. He says the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. This is his challenge to us to spread the Word throughout the world.
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
God gives me so manny oppertunities everyday to evangalize that i let slip through my fingers that i should be taking advantage of and make the harvest few and the workers plentifull
36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Wow that is so sad. We were all like sheep without a shepherd until God found us. But most of the world is still lost. I need to be praying for and helping people who need a good shepherd. All the lost people need a Savior.
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
this woman had so much faith in the Lord, that she said she just need to touch the edge of the cloths Jesus was wearing, and he would be healed. since she had that much faith, he said to her that she was healed. i need to have that kind of faith. i need to put my full trust in him for everything and stop trying to control my life.
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
This verse stood out to me. One of my thoughts after reading this and seeing this verse is that Jesus loved us while we were still sinners, and I was a sheep who was lost and astray, and did not know christ. But it was by the grace of God that I am saved and am no longer heading down that path. Jesus is my master, my Savior, and I am so blessed! I want nothing more than to serve him wholeheartedly in everything I do. He deserves that and so much more. I feel compassion and want people out there who do not know Christ, to come to the state of repentance, and I know it starts with me. I am going to continue to talk to people at my school and pray, in hope that others will have a soft heart towards the truth. God is good, and so holy and perfect.
26News of this spread through all that region.
Tuis verse stuck out to me because everything that Jesus did was spread through the surrounding lands. Now, as Christians, Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nation. I pray that God’s word would be spread like wild fire because, when Jesus healed people, the news spread pretty fast and now, the awesome news that Jesus died for our sins and took our spot should be spread like a wild fire headig to a gas company.
37 The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few
out of every class we sit in everyday at school, or team we play on or people we know, they’re all not saved. this verse reminds me to talk to these people and share the gospel and talk to them about Christ and where they are at. itsour job to speak the truth of Christ to “go make more disciples”
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
I love how much faith she has. I need to trust in God and have faith like she did.
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
I agree with Brooke about this verse, how Jesus came down and saved us. And sometimes I just sit down and marvel at the position I was in before God saved me and the position I am in now where I can spend time with God. I was so lost and without guide, and now I can have a realtionship with the God of the universe. Jesus is that perfect shepherd who saved me from my sin! I need to thank him and not only that but praise him for what he has done for me!
29Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”;
I love reading about how Jesus healed people! He is so awesome! These people who came to him were healed because of their great faith. Each one of them knew that Jesus was who he said he was and believed that he would heal them. I need to be showing faith like these people and trusting that the Lord can do anything! I pray that I would show complete trust in Jesus Christ my Savior to guide my life!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
There are so many lost souls in the world but so few people that will care enough to preach to them. I need to be on of the workers who spread the gospel, there must be times in my life where I pass up oppurtunitys to evangelize and I can’t pass them up.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
This is a great verse that really puts things into perspective. There are sooo many unsaved people in the world and so few saved. Jesus here refers to the workers as those who are saved and the harvest as the unsaved. Jesus is telling his disciples to go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19). It is crazy to think that there are so many people that would go to hell right now if they died and its even crazier to think that Jesus could be coming back at any moment!!! I pray that the Lord would put a sense of urgency on all of our hearts and that we would be unashamed (Romans 1:16) of the gospel and make disciples of all nations!!!!
i liked all the examples of how much Jesus healed so many people. this was obviously a large part of His minstry and this just shows me how awesome and powerful He was. He is God and i am in awe of how incredible our God is
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
I thought these verses were really cool. It’s amazing how this woman had so much faith. She believed that Jesus was so powerful that just touching his cloak would heal her. I need to work on having faith like that.
We can heal people just as jesus does in the BIBLE , we can teach them and make them pure hearted.. just as the woman had faith in the LORD in
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.”
- We should have as much faith as she did… If we obtain this we will w=achieve greatness!!!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.—-I totally get this and it really reminds of what I’ve been praying about! I really need more boldness at school and at home! I know I’ve been afraid at times and I just need to put more faith in God that he can give me the right words and know that I should not be afraid of others because God is so much more powerful than they are! It is pretty sad that there are not that many people out there who can be bold and just share the truth about God to others. I don’t want to be one of those people! I really need to work on my boldness and just going all out in evangelism. Also showing love for everyone by making sure they will get to heaven and that their only love is Christ!
MARANATHAA!!!
true north….amazing :)
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
It took Trust, Faith and Courage in that time to venture out into his harvest field, but no more than it takes today to answer the same call.
My wife and I spent Evangelism night with three fellow True North members, I was struck by their resolve, diligence and commitment in spite of disinterest and disdain. I realized that our challenge today is no more difficult than it was back then, the sole difference is in the number of potential converts.
come on guys!!! we don’t want to break the 100 streak!!!
ok so this passage we read tonight just shows a glimpse of how amazing the Lord is. He preformed so many miracles, and i put my entire trust in Him. He is such an amazing God, i cant even explain in words. I am so excited to live out this next week for God’s glory, and to praise him for all of the wonderful attributes he has.
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
This is our job here on this earth, and the Lord has commanded us to do it!! I want to be one of those few who work for Christ here on this earth.
It is amazing that God is able to heal people like that and show people that he is almighty and powerful
31But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
What God has given us is so much better than just being able to see, and these men couldn’t control themselves; they had to share the good news. If salvation is so much better than this, then why aren’t people sharing it more often? there is no excuse. I want to be better at looking for opportunities to save people, because I’m often just focussed on the conversation that is occurring.
I’ve noticed in these chapters that the people Jesus heals have faith that he can heal them. How many good things are we missing out on when we don’t have faith?
Matthew 8
30 and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”
31 But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
Jesus did not come to heal the physically sick He came to save and eventually heal the spiritually sick from their sin. Often Jesus would tell those who were witness to His miracles not to tell anyone what happened. He probably did this because He wanted the attention to be on the Gospel and not on physical healing. In Mark 1:43-45 we see that Jesus was unable to walk into town and stayed in lonely places.
Mark 1:43-45 43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
Many people seek Jesus Christ for the wrong reasons and never receive the healing that He had for their life. People seek Christ for healing from things that are physical but He came to heal us from eternal death and separation from God.
God will take care of our physical problems in His time but we need to keep our focus on His will for our lives.
i love thos passage because it shows that God can heal everything and that he will always help and be there for you !!
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
The faith of this woman is amazing. She has not even met Jesus yet she trusts completely that He has the power to heal at will. I need to have faith like this. Even in the little things, i need to trust that He has the power and is in control of everything.
28When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied.
I think sometimes i might doubt the Lord that things will happen. I need to remind myself that He is all-knowing and his way is the only way and our only ticket to Heaven. I must trust in the Lord with 100% of my heart and i must love HIm with all my heart, strength, and mind! I want to be able to love the Lord more than ANYTHING and have Him #1 in my life. I feel as if God is #1 in my life but i dont love Him as much as i could or should! In order to love the Lord, i am going to get to know him more by getting in the Word more so that i can truly know HIm, learn to love HIm and learn to putting Him before everything and to never have a love triangle! God is great (:
Saw new moon again after the sermon and definitely was not good at all!!!!!
God is awesome (: Praise HIM! and him only<3
AWESOME COMMENT SPENCER!!!!!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
This is so true! There is a lot of things in this world that need to be accomplished and not a lot of people to do them…. We need to make more disciples and do whatever the Lord commands us to do!
21She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
This is so amazijng!! this women had such faith that she believed that just by touching jesuss cloak she would be healed!!!! That is so awsome in so many ways!!!!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
When I look around this earth, everything around me, every person around me, I see how plentiful the harvest is. There are so many people who need to hear the gospel. Sadly, though there is a great need for people to bring the gospel to these people, the workers are few. Those that are following Christ and sharing their faith with others is the narrow road of the people on earth. But the second verse commands that I ask God to send out more workers. I need to be on my knees in prayer that many more people will get saved, and in turn, that will lead to others getting saved. It’s like a revival coming across Orange County! I need to pray that it never stops, but instead, that it continues to grow and grow in number. I need to never be discouraged that my Christian walk may seem accompanied by few. I need to not be afraid because I tread the road less followed. Instead, I need to have faith in my God, 100% trust that His will will be carried out.
Jesus did so many great things while he was here on earth!! He was never ashamed to be bold and speak infront of people. I want the boldness Jesus had!
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness
This verse was an encouragment to me!! I need to get out there and go preach the Bible and not be afraid of what people think of afraid of what I will say. I need to pray to God before I do this and have Him speak through me. I pray Lord that I will share you word more often and be a light unto you,
One great contrast that keeps coming up in Matthew is the response of people to Jesus; it is the contrast of faith versus unbelief.
Both are evident in this chapter. The lady who just wanted to touch the edge of Jesus’ robe shows faith. She had faith that Jesus could heal her, and that faith led to action. An example of unbelief are the people who laugh at Jesus when he says the girl is not dead.
What is my reaction to Jesus? Obviously, if I am a Christian, the overall response of my life is faith, but everyday I am faced with decisions where I can either be confident in God or doubt him. One specific way I want to express confidence in God is by obeying his command in the last verse: praying for God to send out workers into the harvest.
Wowww!! The faith of these people is incredible! The woman who just wanted to TOUCH Jesus, and she knew that she would be healed, that is amazing to me. I need to have this kind of faith, knowing that Jesus is capable of ALL things!
My computer was down yesterday so thats why im posting today.
22Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
This is a good verse because we have to think, do we really believ in faith? What i forget alot is that faith is such a powerful thing and sometimes its easy to forget that that. Even though God is physically tangible and we can’t see him, we must never forget that he still does great miracles in out lives. Everyday i can soo so many things that Goid has dones in my and others lives and it just comes more and more clear of how he works in out lives and if we only have a unconditional faith in Him, he will definatley make himself known to us! Thank you Lord so much for my salvation!!! MARANATHA!!!
37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
I love this verse. It shows how people can really be used by God. He can send US out to do HIS work all for HIS glory. Its amazing how God is so wonderfull and powerfull.
