Woe to Nineveh
3:1 Woe to the bloody city,
all full of lies and plunder—
no end to the prey!
2 The crack of the whip, and rumble of the wheel,
galloping horse and bounding chariot!
3 Horsemen charging,
flashing sword and glittering spear,
hosts of slain,
heaps of corpses,
dead bodies without end—
they stumble over the bodies!
4 And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute,
graceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
7 And all who look at you will shrink from you and say,
Wasted is Nineveh; who will grieve for her?
Where shall I seek comforters for you?
8 Are you better than Thebes
that sat by the Nile,
with water around her,
her rampart a sea,
and water her wall?
9 Cush was her strength;
Egypt too, and that without limit;
Put and the Libyans were her helpers.
10 Yet she became an exile;
she went into captivity;
her infants were dashed in pieces
at the head of every street;
for her honored men lots were cast,
and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 You also will be drunken;
you will go into hiding;
you will seek a refuge from the enemy.
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees
with first-ripe figs—
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater.
13 Behold, your troops
are women in your midst.
The gates of your land
are wide open to your enemies;
fire has devoured your bars.
14 Draw water for the siege;
strengthen your forts;
go into the clay;
tread the mortar;
take hold of the brick mold!
15 There will the fire devour you;
the sword will cut you off.
It will devour you like the locust.
Multiply yourselves like the locust;
multiply like the grasshopper!
16 You increased your merchants
more than the stars of the heavens.
The locust spreads its wings and flies away.
17 Your princes are like grasshoppers,
your scribes like clouds of locusts
settling on the fences
in a day of cold—
when the sun rises, they fly away;
no one knows where they are.
18 Your shepherds are asleep,
O king of Assyria;
your nobles slumber.
Your people are scattered on the mountains
with none to gather them.
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil? (ESV)

This sounds like a horror movie! God takes sin so seriously! He is destroying an entire nation because of their sin. I need to be this serious about my sin. Each one of my sins is a slap in the face of God. I cannot excuse any of my sins by thinking that they are “small” sins. There is no such thing. Each sin grieves God and was the reason Christ had to come and die. I want to see my sin as God sees it. I want to truly hate my sin and always work at mortifying it.
Amen Meisha!
I watched a horror movie once that was like this actually. lol But good comment Meisha Meisha! :D
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
God is a just God!
His justice is holy and pure.
For the unsaved, your wound is grievous;
Your heart is heavy full of all the sin of your life.
It is not too late unless the lord returns now!
Ease your hurt give it to God, repent of your sins,
Place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior.
And be a slave to sin no more!
We saved… now have a source of power in the Holy Spirit,
to stand up to sin and say no!
The lord is coming when we least suspect it.
Could be some time today!
Though we are not rid of sin in our present bodies, we do sin, but we can
overcome with God’s strength!. Be close to the Word read and apply it daily. I will do the same.
If you want to be saved! its not to late, as of this moment. Talk to a leader or pastor, they would love to talk to you about how you can be saved! xox <3

I love this because of how true it is! GOD IS AGAINST SINNERS! And the way he describes it in this whole passage makes me want to keep fighting sin! He says that he will lift up my skirt over my face and have nations look at my nakedness…God isnt afraid to show us for what we really are. Im glad that my God cares enough about me to strike fear into my heart while at the same time fill it with love.
Great post Holden! Very wise since the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (prov. 1:7).
very nice comment! It is so true how God will not hesitate to reveal our true selves to the world and to ourself.
Great comment!! :D God is so amazing!!
great post holden, its awsome to see you continue in your walk with God! <3
“Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts…” (Nah. 3:2)
God’s title: “the Lord of host” literally means a general or captain of an army. The heavenly army, the army of the living God is against those who aren’t under God’s favor, namely all unrepentant sinners. I like the picture of Gandalf, in Lord of the Rings, riding down on a white horse leading a multitude of warriors down a mountain to destroy the wicked army of Sauran (Lord of the Rings reference).
According to Revelations Jesus will one day ride down with the multitudes to lay waste to the earth and judge all who are of it.
Jesus Christ is the judge, and one day soon he is coming back to repay everyone for the deeds they have done. Although I will be judged in the righteousness of Christ, I pray that I can keep the Revival going until the day the Lord comes back, by staying in His word and doing good deeds in keeping with repentance, which I pray the Day to be soon (Maranatha)!
Nice comment spencer!I too will be praying that this revival will continue until the Lord comes back!
amen!
Solid post Spence! I love reading what you have to say everyday!
Good stuff, Spence.
the Assyrians, Babaylonians, Egyptians…they relied on their own strength and got too arrogant, which made God really angry, and completely sealed their judgement by making them like Sodom and Gemmorrah. God hates sin; and he hates it even more that we try to go on life as if it was of our own volition, of our own willpower that makes us succeed in out trials. in actality, no its not. It’s God’s will that guides through the ups and downs of life.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
God makes it pretty clear in the first line that He is against sinners, which is all the earths people. There is not one righteous man who is worth enough to be with God. We are all supposed to be burning in hell if it werent for Jesus. God loved us for reasons we cant comprehend, but its something to be thankfull for. I did absolutely nothing to earn Gods forgivness, none of us did. But it seems like I can get caught up in the fact that I am better than someone else because God saved me and didnt save them, but in all reality, that wasnt anything to do with me. I have to stop thinking that and keep going out and telling people that God is no ok with sin. Sin isnt something I can fool around with, its very serious as proven in this verse
Nahum 3:4 And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute, graceful and of deadly charms,who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.
Then: God hates the culture and actions of the people of Nineveh that draws countries and entire people away from His righteous ways.
Always: God’s standards are self evident and, when violated, always incur terrible punishment.
Now: learn what He says and respond to the gap between His holy standard and our sin in repentance and faith because, while it might not happen today or tomorrow, God will exact perfect justice for our sin. Every sin by every person and woe to those not covered by His free gift of grace through Christ Jesus. The good news really is the only hope for cultures and their people opposed to God.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
This is so convicting! The Lord is so against sin He tells of how He will have all the nations stare at my nakedness and see me for how i truly am uncovered. This is scary, i know me uncovered is just a dirty sinner and that i should work harder and harder everyday to annihilate my sin. i pray the Lord gives me strength to fight sin and to hate it as much as He does!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
The first part of this verse is something no one wants to hear. By now, the Ninevites are struggling. Their armies are falling, the dead count it rising, and now when all seems hopeless? God says He’s against them. They had been a very powerful nation in their time and had selfishly plundered other cities and like yesterday, now they’re getting plundered and destroyed. They were prideful and sinful and thought they had no need for God. Now the Lord is taking them down a peg or two, but since He already gave them a chance, this means complete and utter destruction. I can only imagine what the other nation’s who’d been destroyed by them thought…
Now it’s really easy to learn from this like we learn from stories about the Israelites. We can say “Oh how horrible people they were! They never listened to God at all…I could never be like that!” But in reality, we have to watch ourselves that we don’t become too prideful and that we DO listen to God always! That’s what happened to the Ninevites! They knew the truth but the next generations didn’t care, they did it their own way and began sinning more and more, repeatedly slapping God in the face. Like Meisha said, I need to remember my sin is a slap in the face to God and remember that it is by His grace alone I’m not slapped back for it.
Yeah we really do have to watch out, this could be us one day. great comment!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
It is a very scary thing to have the Lord against you. It is scary to have nations rise up against you, or to have disease and famine inflict you, but to have the God who created the heavens and the earth with His word against you, that is a scary and dreadful thing! And why was the Lord against Nineveh? Because she trusted in herself and other nations, because she was violent and evil towards other peoples, and ultimately, because she sinned against the Lord. God hates sinners (Psalm 5:5), and He is just in bringing His wrath upon them. But the amazing thing is that if we have Christ, God is not against us, He is for us (Romans 8:31). The God who created the heavens and the earth will no longer judge us if we have trusted in Christ and turned away from our sins to God! Praise be to God who saves those who hate Him and deserve His full wrath!
^^Reminder that Moses would rather have the Lord with His people when he went into the promised land, than to go in without Him. So cool. :D
mmmmhmmm the gospel!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
It’s obvious to see how God HATES sin.
He’s going to put this nation to shame by making other nations see them when they’re most vulnerable.
I need to hate sin as God does so I may stay far far far away from it.
I want no part of sin, so I need to be praying daily for guidance to stay out of sin.
Lord, help me live as you would want me to, away from sin and hating it as you do.
Such a great prayer! His guidance to keep away from sin is definetly something I need to be asking God for daily!
I agree with shossa that is a really great prayer and I need God to help me with that as well!
Nineveh was pretty much screwed. No God, how can one survive? I think one reason people make up a god is because they can’t completely understand why they’re here and what their mission here on Earth is. A life without God? Now, I can say before I was a Christian that it was soooooo miserable…to still be like that now? I can’t even imagine. Today, I want to praise Him for choosing me as one of His elect and making me one of His own children that will see Him face to face one day. I will praise Him at Camp Compass, I will praise Him at my friends house, and I will praise Him at The Refuge…why not 24/7? :) Maranatha. Thank you Jesus!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
I do not ever want to get to the point of sin where God will hate me. How scary it would be. I love Him so much, but if I go against Him, He will surely go against me. If I truly love Him I would not deliberately sin.
“There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
…
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?”
These people are getting exactly what they deserved–an unrelenting pain, in return for an “unceasing evil”. And God is entirely just to punish them for it.
…Which reminds me of my story. My life seems like an “unceasing evil” sometimes. I’ve committed an uncountable amount of sins, so what makes me any different from these people?
Nothing. The only difference is that God chose to work with me, and not them. I deserve the same punishment, if not worse than them.
But yet somewhere in God’s infinite wisdom, from the beginning and before time God chose to pick me as a follower of him.
This really opens my eyes to how much God deserves of me.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness

6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
7 And all who look at you will shrink from you and say,
Wasted is Nineveh; who will grieve for her?
Where shall I seek comforters for you?
Sin brings recoiling and skrinking back: mortification. The word mortification contains the prefix mort-, which means DEATH.
It is true to say that sin brings death.
This chapter enforces the truth that I must see sin as God does, and make no concession for it in my heart and life. As a human, with flesh nature that is sinful, sin-sadly-is inevitable. But there is a sin that leads to death (I John 5: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20John%205&version=ESV) and this is why it is imperative to keep short accounts with our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
May this chapter penetrate our hearts throughout today, and bring us to a deep understanding of how much God HATES sin. May we get serious and make war against the sin in OUR lives. Only by God’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit. So may we seek Him with our whole hearts and live for Him alone.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;

and make you a spectacle.
7 And all who look at you will shrink from you and say,

God is powerful enough to do that and they need to know that but obviously they don’t if God had to say this.
Hey James getting into God’s word thats awesome!
God did need to say it again. :)
5a Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts…
God is declaring to the people of Nineveh that he is about to bring down his judgment upon them for their wickedness. Nineveh was the capital of the Assyrian Empire, and the Assyrians were the people whom God allowed to take control over the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the ten of the twelve tribes. The people of Judah, the Southern Kingdom, were enemies against Nineveh and the Assyrian Empire, and they were probably happy in the judgment coming upon Nineveh. Like Pastor Bobby wrote about in the blog about Nahum, the book as a whole, this is similar to the picture we see in Revelation 19. All who are up in heaven rejoice at God pouring out his wrath and judgment upon the wickedness of the world. They see the sins of the people and see how it is just for God to punish them.
We don’t truly see how bad we are. People here on earth think that a God who judges people doesn’t have love. They complain how a God of love could send a “good person” to hell. However, he doesn’t do such a thing. People fail to see the reality that there truly are no good people. All are evil. And while many will complain about how undeserved judgment is, those in heaven will watch from above and praise God for his justice as he pays the due punishment to the world for its sin. I need to not get defensive about my sin. While I could try defending myself to others on earth, and even myself, God and all up in heaven can clearly see how sinful I am. The best response then, is to seek the only way out of this judgment. The only way is Jesus Christ. And every time that I stumble into sin, I can’t hide it or deny it. But if I own up to it, then turn to God in repentance, he will wipe away my sin. And when he comes to pour out high righteous and just judgment, I know that I won’t suffer in it, only because of Jesus Christ!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
There will be a time when God will reveal all the sin of the world. It’s scary to think of such a punishment. The sin will bring much sorrow to those who are without Jesus. I am disgusted by my own sin. We all must fight against sin because it is evil and gross and God abhors it.
19 “There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?”
This is a very serious chapter & needs to be taken VERY seriously. As I was reading it through I felt like I was angering God..like every line I read, he became more angry. But he had every single right in the world to be angry. His people not only betrayed him & chose knowledge in the beginning of time, but in the time of Nineveh, the people were trusting in themselves!! They were putting their insurance in their own kingdom. They had no “need” for God’s help, so they didn’t even pretend to care about Him. They thought they had it all under control, and God was teaching them a lesson in saying that absolutely no one can do anything on their own. Especially running a kingdom, but anything PERIOD, can not be run without God’s help!! The people of Nineveh needed a wake up call, and God gave them one. I’m not hating on the Ninevites, I’m saying they deserved it, and honestly, we right now in this time at this moment, we deserve exactly what the Ninevites underwent. We are not doing the greatest for God’s kindgom..well at least not most of us. Sometimes, all we need is a wake-up-call.
amen! great comment Megan! :]
Thanks Pay-TOHN! (: I miss you
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts
God is the judge of everyone. And everyone that has lived sinned and deserves it. It is a very scary to have the Lord against us. He calls us to be righteous and not to continually sin and store wrath up like Nineveh. I do not want to sin and have God against me. How scary but just would it be
yayy! great to see you on SOTD bro :)
Way to get on here Daniel! Keep it up!
11 You also will be drunken;
you will go into hiding;
you will seek a refuge from the enemy.
In verses 8-10 Nahum describes the city of Thebes and how, even though it was a very powerful city in that time, the Assyrians easily came in and entirely destroyed it. Then Nahum goes on in verse 11 to say that Ninevah will also be like Thebes and be conquered. The end of this verse stood out to me because it says that they “will seek a refuge from he enemy.” Now after all this is going on, they are being completely destroyed and yet they still turn to worldly means of refuge. They are seeking refuge from the enemy! Now I’m thinking, wow what a silly thing to do, but I do this all the time. I seek comfort and advice from a worldly perspective not always going to God first. He is the one who I need to turn to when I’m seeking refuge because I know that He is my rock that will sustain me if I turn to Him in repentance. The Ninevites were trying to hide from their sin. We know that God knows straight through to our hearts and there is no way of getting around it. When I sin, I don’t want to try and hide from it, but rather confess it to God right away and turn to Him in repentance. God takes sin seriously, and so should I! I’m praying that I would only seek refuge in my God and Creator and continue fighting against the sin in my life!
Wow! great comment summer!!
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
It all boils down to this…whatever we dish out on earth will be repaid to us when we die. If we place our trust in Christ then we get credited with His perfect resume on Judgement Day. If we live lives of sin, pleasing only ourselves, then we will be punished for every sin that we committed while spending eternity in hell. Verse 19 makes it clear that the Assyrian monarchy has received a fatal blow and that their end is imminent. No one was sad about the Ninevites’ destruction because they had continually caused terror and suffering. The phrase, “you reap what you sow” comes to mind. I am praising God today that Jesus took the penalty for my sins so that I will not have to face the eternal punishment I deserve. Thank You, Jesus!
Amen Beth my thoughts also!
Wow, you’re even better at SOTD comments than Starburst poker!

This verse really shows me God’s passionate hate of sin!!! I never want the Lord to be against me, and the only way He would not be against me is if I were to come to Him in repentance and His son would mask the sin in my life and it would be forgiven! If God were to show the world my heart, would I be suprised with what I saw? I need to make sure that since I became a christian, my heart has been radically transformed! If I still fall into the same patterns of sin in my daily life, then I haven’t really been saved! I need to make sure that I am living for God, not the world, and getting into His word all the time so I can better my relationship with Him and have the assurance that I will see Him in heaven soon!
amazzing comment shossa!!!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
I love this verse because God isnt afraid to show us for what we really are. Im glad that my God cares enough about me to strike fear into my heart while at the same time fill it with love. He doesn’t like sinners.
So true Lucas! Our God is so amazing, perfectly just and perfectly loving at the same time!
4 And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute,
graceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.
Just as Israel has been described as a whore for her unfaithfulness to God in other O.T. books, Assyria here is also called such. The immediate context is that she simply seduces & corrupts other countries with her wealth & power, giving her a very influential status throughout the ancient Near East; however, we remember that Jonah went to Nineveh previously & elicited what looked like a genuine repentance from the city at that time. Now, she has abandoned that repentance, become unfaithful to God, & returned to her previous wicked ways.
As a Christian, I need to beware the seduction of the world–whatever form it takes. In the parable of the soils, Jesus portrays this as the “thorny” soil, and it stems from a slow erosion (heh…stems…erosion. get it?) of Godly principles & the commands he gives us. I want to be faithful to God 100% of the time.
I get it.
What this is saying is its better to be on Gods team rather being on Satans. When it comes to the day of decision of where we go, we want to be able to go live enternity with God himself and perish no more.
Thank You JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amen David!! :) Keep it up on SOTD and the Revival won’t stop!
“dead bodies without end—
they stumble over the bodies!”
This shocked me! I cant even imagine this. There will be dead bodies everywhere and there will be no end. God is extremely angry in this chapter and he releases his anger. It really expresses his anger in this verse. Like i said yesterday, this is similar to the Day the Lord returns.
“Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts…”
Just this verse alone is scary. How would it feel to have the Lord of hosts against you. He created you and gave you a chance for eternal life with Him but when you reject Him, he is against you and will reject you on the day of judgement and put you in the lake of fire. This is serious business and God is not kidding when he says make disciples of all nations. I would never want my relatives or friends to be rejected by God. I need to start talking!
Good Comment Allie!!! We definately need to always be ready to share the gospel before its to late!!! :)
God will sometimes use indirect objects and second influences to get get his work directly done. History tells us that after this prophecy Nahum gives us, Nineveh is obliterated. How did that happen? Babylonians invaded the city and destroyed it around the year 612 B.C.
After an event like the flood, you’d expect God to destroy Nineveh by shooting flames out of his fingertips, and Nineveh is no more. However, God used the Babylonians to get his work done.
And thousands of years later, things remain quite the same. God doesn’t have to directly influence our heart, but he can put people and places and things in our lives that will ultimately result in a change of heart. He put these people; parents, siblings, pastors; to match his plan and purpose that is only known to him.
Does this mean that God cannot directly change someones heart? Not at all! Pharaoh’s heart was hardened by God over and over again so that God would be glorified.
Is that how God changes most people’s hearts? I’m not completely sure, but I would have to go with a no. Look at Paul the apostle. Did God snap his fingers and Saul’s hard heart became soft again. No, Jesus actually appeared to him causing him to go blind, which allowed Ananias to help him physically and spiritually.
No matter how you look at it, God still is going to get his way. He is an all powerful, all knowing being. He can snap his fingers, and you’re a changed man. Or he knows which circumstances he needs to put you through so you will do as he wills.
4 And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute,
graceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.
When I read this verse, I thought of how Satan works. He is graceful and has deadly charms because he deceives people into thinking that they should just live for themselves and do whatever feels good. As long as they are a somewhat good person, they deserve heaven right? Wrong! He has deceived SO many people into that way of thinking, it’s getting harder and harder to correct. Plus, the life God has commanded his people is to always be serving him. To a nonChristian, that is NOT going to sound fun or worth it!
Betraying nations and peoples is a pretty obvious one I think. Hopefully I am right. I think that this may explain how we are pitted against one another. Have you ever had that voice that urges you to take revenge on someone or to go do something mean or harmful to someone you don’t like (or even who you do like)? That’s getting us to want to go against one another, which is not what God wants us to do! In Luke 6:27-28, it says “But I say to you who hear; Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” This is a hard thing to do, but God calls us to do it…fighting how Satan wants us to think.
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
This whole chapter illustrates the principle of reaping and sowing. The Assyrians dealt ruthlessly with people as they conquered them. According to my study Bible the Assyrian Empire was established by bloodshed, massacre, cruelty, torture, destruction, plundering, and exiling as has been seldom seen in history. Nahum predicts it is now their turn. Payback is coming. God is just, and is going to recompense all the wrong that they have done and eventually will wipe them out of history. That motivates me to sow into the Spirit and not into my flesh. The former leads to destruction, the latter to eternal life (Galatians 6:7,8).
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
Heaven and Hell will look a lot like this. There will be no easing the person’s hurt who rejected God and therefore, is spending eternity in Hell. But people in Heaven will not look down and mourn or feel bad for what they are going through, because they deserve it. We all have sinned against the one and only God, and that deserves punishment. Even the “good” people of this earth are evil, evil people in God’s eyes! The Bible says that lying is the same as murdering. One small sin (from our perspective) is the exact same as a huge sin in God’s eyes. So, really, there will be no “good people” going to Heaven. And we will be in Heaven forever and not feel bad about the people in Hell.
5 Behold, I am against you,

I love this verse because it shows how just God is. He HATES sinners and He is not afraid to show that. God is so against sin and loves us so much that He is not at all afraid to put fear in our minds to show us what we are doing is wrong.
“Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts…”
This verse is alone is scary. Having God, the one who gave you a chance of eternal life, against you !
Awesome comment Kylie and so true!! It is really great to see you hunger for God’s word and getting on SOTD (: keep it up!
Reading Nahum, it’s easy to see why we should fear the Lord. That’s why it’s so important to read all of the books of the Bible…not just the easy or fun ones to read…and not just the New Testament. God is the same God all throughout the Bible and He never changes. We need to be sure we’re reading every book of the Bible so we don’t miss any important aspects of His character. Today I’m focusing on the fear of the Lord. He is a powerful, just God who should be feared be all people. I’m thankful to know that He is also a loving, compassionate, gracious God who gave His only Son to save me. Thank you Lord!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
God is very powerful. He hates how these people kept sinning.
I really need to work on not sinning, and i pray to God for him to help me with that. When Judement day is here we need to be sure we are on God’s Team, and to be sure where we are going-not be surprised like these people in yesterday’s scripture of the day. I pray that I will Have the strength and courage to spread the Gospel with people at school, and that i will say away from sin and keep growing in God, by bearing more fruit in my life.
“…they stumble over the bodies!
4 And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute,
graceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.”
people are dying because of their sinful desires and its not worth it!! This whole chapter, like people have already said, just gives the a picture of a horror movie. Its really scary and thats what God wants, he wants us to fear him because its eternity we are talking about! Yes God loves us, but like Spencer said, it starts with fear, thats what lead us into repentance in the first place, the fear that because we are sinners, we all deserve hell.
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
These past few chapters have been so intense! God is getting major revenge on these people and that day is going to be soon for a lit of other people who do not know what is coming for them!!! I am sooo thankful that God chose me out of a non-Christian family and I am able to know the truth! If I love my family and friends that don’t know the truth I must tell them about what is in store for them if they don’t repent! God is a just God and he is going to show his anger on the disobedient. I need to be obedient to God’s word in all that I do!!! I am going to be praying for those who are blind to the truth and that God will provide me with the right words to explain to these people what they need to hear.
MARANATHA!!!!
3 Horsemen charging,
flashing sword and glittering spear,
hosts of slain,
heaps of corpses,
dead bodies without end—
they stumble over the bodies!
God takes sin very seriously. He will wipe out an entire nation on because of sin alone. I need to remember that I will one day come face to face with Jesus Christ and have a talk about everything I have done here on earth. I want to be able to live a blameless life in Gods eyes. I think that if we all keep the idea of how much God hates sin on our minds all the time, we will be less likely to sin. Being aware of the consequences will make us rethink our actions. I do not want to end up a destroyed nation because I ignored Gods grace. The least we can do is repent and tell others about Gods love and forgiveness.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
I don’t know about you guys, but I cringed when I heard this. I sure wouldn’t want filth thrown at me, I wouldn’t want to be treated with contempt, and I sure don’t wanna be made a spectacle. As Lauren said, these past few chapters have been INTENSE. (:
After reading Pastor Bobby’s blog on Nahum it really helped me understand this book of the Bible.
Nahum 3:5 “Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.”
this verse stood out to me. Having the Lord against you is not a good thing at all! Its a scary thing too! Because God is Almighty and has all the power in the world and can do anything! Many non-believers could take this book out of the wrong context and think “well i ddont want to believe in a God that gets so angry” or they may think, well i thought He was slow to anger. Well He was slow to anger because we have to remember what went on in the book of Jonah before this and God definately was slow to it.. and also this is righteous anger!
13 Behold, your troops are women in your midst. The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has devoured your bars.
This verse makes me think about how many sinful things and desires are in my way to being closer to the Lord. I need to work on God being my main focus and not being distracted by sinful ways
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
Some people in the world think that God is ONLY loving, but He has so many other attributes. Like He is just and holy. They think that God loves us so much that He is willing to overlook our sins and take us in anyway. They think that God doesn’t care. WRONG! You can’t get anymore plain than this; Behold I am against you! HELLOOOO!!! CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN IS THROUGH REPENTANCE AND FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST?!
11 You also will be drunken;
you will go into hiding;
you will seek a refuge from the enemy.
This verse stood out to me especially when it said you will seek a refuge from the enemy. When the day of the Lord comes, people will realize what they seeked was wrong and what they needed was God. Like it says in the following verse you will go into hiding and seek refuge from the enemy. This means that many will try to flee from the devil, but because of their rejection twords Christ, they wont be able to hide. Its just like Nivevah twords God. God will pay each and every one of them for their deeds including you. Its a very scary thing, but we must face the fact and warn others. God is coming back very soon, and you cant wait to choose God or tell others of Him. The day of judgement is near…are you ready? MARANATHA!!!
I enjoyed reading this chapter. Some verses stood out to me. Like verse 3 Horsemen charging, flashing sword and glittering spear, hosts of slain, heaps of corpses, dead bodies without end— they stumble over the bodies!
Our God is a very just God. He hates sin so much that he punishes it with eternal destruction. This verse shows us how serious he is over sin. He punishes sin by death. We should make sure that we are on his team and not the team of the devil. If we are truly on his team our sins are covered by Jesus’ blood. Those who are still in their sin will face God’s eternal judgment. We should be spreading the word of God as much as we can so more people can know what they are facing if they keep heading down the path they are on.
19 There is no easing your hurt; your wound is grievous. All who hear the news about you clap their hands over you. For upon whom has not come your unceasing evil?
Woooow this chapter is scary! I need to keep spreading the word so that God can save who He wants to save!
8 Are you better than Thebes…?
I like this part of the verse. I tend to judge people sometimes – a sin I need to repent of – so I looked up “Forgive and Forget” on the internet and I found this very resourceful page that talked about how we should not judge because we are in need of God’s grace and forgiveness just as much as the next person. If anyone is interested, here is the link: http://www.acts17-11.com/forgive.html .
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
God hates sin! He is holy, just, and all powerfull. He has complete control over His creation. God is Judge and will punish for sin like this passage is saying. I need to take my sin seriously and not be complacent with sin. He hates it! I am thankful though that His Son has died for me and rose again and saved me and I do not have to face the wrath of God, but I still need to be serious about my sin!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
Wow… The first line is pretty clear about how God views sin. Considering every single person on this Earth has sinned, this is pretty serious stuff and should get everyone’s attention!! God HATES sin, he cannot stand it. He doesn’t want to be around it, near it, next to it, nowhere by it. This should really get us thinking about our own sin, but also others around us who we know are not saved. This verse is full of hate…From GOD. When someone realizes this, I don’t know how they don’t want to please and live for Him. Let’s get this out there and let them know that there IS a solution: Jesus Christ.
Maranatha!!
Great comment Nicole!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
This is another reminder that God takes sin really seriously. We have to make war on sin or sin will make war on us. And it’s an everyday battle and reading God’s word strenghtens me to fight sin. Sometimes when I sin, I won’t think it’s a “big” deal and I will justify it.But that is so wrong!! Like if my parents asked me if I cleaned my room but I actually shoved everything in the closet. The world will tell me that it’s nothing and I’m crazy to think I’m a bad personb because of that but in view of God’s holiness and perfection, every sin is like a slap in the face to the God who saved and redeemed me.
Great to see you on SOTD True North Alumni!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
So, having the Lord of the entire universe tell you that he’s against you isn’t usually the best thing to hear. In fact, it’s a sure-fire way to become aware of the incredible impending doom that is coming your way. Our God is awesomely mighty, and also has unbelievably powerful wrath, that he isn’t afraid to unleash on those who don’t obey him. Fortunately, for those of us who are Christians, we have escaped that impending doom because of God’s grace and mercy in sending his son Jesus to die and rise again, but it is still very important to always remember how much God hates sin. The Ninevites had been living entirely in sin, and as a result, he was going to crush them. We don’t have to worry about the eternal punishment of Hell, but we do have to realize that God will discipline us for our sins. It’s similar to an earthly father punishing his child. The father punishes his child out of love, because he wants the best for that child and the child needs to learn a lesson. God isn’t going to wreak havoc on us like he did with the Ninevites, but we can be sure that we will suffer here on Earth, because God loves us and knows that suffering will prove our faith and bring us closer to him.
Even though I know I won’t receive God’s eternal wrath, reading about God’s judgement in Nahum and all of the minor prophets really convicts me on the fact that I do sin, and God hates it. I need to fighting sin with all the effort I possibly can; as Christians, we are in a WAR against sin. Sometimes, I don’t really think about my sin too much and just ask God for forgiveness. I remember at Revival 09 Pastor Bobby did a seminar on getting emotional about our sin. When is disobey my Lord, I should be filled with grief. He has done so much for me, yet I continue to fail in what he asks of us. I am praying that the Lord will help me to focus on fighting my sin with everything I’ve got, relying on him for my strength!
Awesome comment Jackson! We need to take our sin personally, for God doesn’t just take it lightly! It can be nothing else than the attitude of all-out war!
Nahum 3 is a very intense passage. It shows us how God would destroy a nation because of there sin. It makes me think of how much worse God’s wrath will be when He comes and it is our job to spread the Gospel so that people will not have to endure God’s wrath
Good to see you on SOTD bro! Keep seeking God in His word!
8 Are you better than Thebes…
My study Bible says that Assyria (the country that Nineveh was capital of) had conquered Thebes back in the day. Just like Nineveh, Thebes was a great city, and also just like Thebes, Nineveh would also be conquered. In the same way that God used Thebes to warn and rebuke Nineveh, God can use past events and people to warn us against sin. It would be wise to learn from things that have happened in our lives and people that we know so that we will not fall in to the same sin as they did. I want to be wise and learn from my past and also the Old Testament (1Cor.10:6)!
This was one of the lines that got me thinking.
God could ask America the same question. Are we better than any of these ancient kingdoms? No! We deserve God’s judgment! The church must be salt and light!
18 Your shepherds are asleep,
O king of Assyria;
your nobles slumber.
Your people are scattered on the mountains
with none to gather them.
WOW! Good job everyone with posting the past few days! Keep that spiritual fervor! This verse reminded me of how when Jesus went to pray and asked His disciples to come pray they all fell asleep. It was a tuff time for Jesus and He was going to be taken and then would be crucified and die with the wrath of God. I need to ‘stay awake’ and alert for He is going to return any moment and I need to be ready! :D
5 Behold, I am against you,declares the Lord of hosts,and will lift up your skirts over your face;and I will make nations look at your nakednessand kingdoms at your shame.
/God is against sinners because Heis the opposite of that. He is perfect, which is good, not bad. if we are sinning against God, He will not be very happy with us so i think its very important that we follow Christ and not this world. once you give your life to Chirst, you will never regret it. i didnt when i became one. it was the best feeling ever! i knew God had taken control over my life once i repented and made a 180 turn. i see the differences everyday. so why be a sinner when you can be so much better than that?
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
haveing the Lord be agianst you is not something that you is not something that you want, because he is all powerful, and he can chose to let live or to die, and if he is not for you, then you are going to have a pretty bad day
c u all later
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
The Lord declared to Nineveh that because of their transgressions He was against them. He said they would be put to shame and face the Lord’s wrath for the things that they had done. Today, we want to be on God’s team in everything we do. We do not want the Lord to be against us, as He had been with Nineveh. As Christians we must stand up and spread God’s word so that people will know the truth and so that when judgment day comes they will not face the same wrath that Nineveh faced. As Pastor Bobby said, it is evil of us to not preach God’s word to others because we want them to be saved and not be sent to Hell for the terrible things that they have done.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
This whole chapter really shows Gods control and power over everything. He hates sin and cannot be around it. Like Jasmine said we need to take sin seriously and make war! Sin is serious and sin is what keeps us apart from God!
6 I will throw filth at you and treat you with contempt and make you a spectacle.
Verse 6 seemed to simply, yet harshly explain the intenseness of how the Lord would be against Nineveh. To look at each part in itself would be horrid from a human standpoint! To have filth thrown at you would not only be gross but also it would be embarrassing. Then to be treated with contempt, which is defined as an intense feeling or attitude of regarding someone or something as inferior, would be horrible, especially because it is God who is intensely disappointed with you. Lastly, to have God throw filth at you, be contempt with you, and then to make you a spectacle for all to see, and use you as an example of what not to do, would just be ridiculously terrible! But because God took Nineveh and made them an example way back then, we can now look at that and be able to fear God, and put our faith in Him so that we will not have to face his wrath.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
There are two parts to this verse, the first is the holiness of God, and the second is the nakedness of a powerful nation. While Assyria was looked at as a powerful conquering nation, in reality, compared to God they were not so powerful. In God’s wrath He will real that to people. God is not someone you want to be against You. I would much rather say, “If God is for [me], who can be against [me]?” (Romans 8:31), than have God say that he is against me and will show my nakedness to the world. We must always keep in mind how GREAT God is…no matter how great and powerful we are God is always greater. One of the worst thoughts we could ever have is that we are great because that is just when God will cut us down and expose our nakedness…
18 Your shepherds are asleep,
O king of Assyria;
your nobles slumber.
Your people are scattered on the mountains
with none to gather them.
When I read this verse, I can almost feel the confusion that these people were going through. The end of verse 17 says, “when the sun rises, they fly away; no one knows where they are.” It would seem that the leaders of these people were not honoring God with their power. But instead they abused it by being lazy, and acting suspiciously by not working in the open, but during the night when no one could see them. However, in the end, God punished them and He delivered justice. This entire passage is a reminder of God’s wrath and His power. I become more and more in awe of Him every day!
Nahum 3:6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
The people in the city of Nineveh are definitely not in the favor of God. He will throw filth at them, and distain them because they have turned from God. Nineveh is certainly doomed because they are no longer in God’s favor. The reason why God is no longer sparing them is because they have returned to their sinful ways. After a while, they forgot that they were near destruction because they were deep in their sin. Originally, their lives were all about themselves, but once Jonah came and told them they needed to repent of their sins, they did. However, God uses these people as an example of how repentance doesn’t always last. Like in Jesus’ parable of the Sower in Matthew 13, the seeds that fell on the rocky ground were the seeds that upon hearing the word, received it with joy, but when hardships came and time passed, they fell away. This is similar with the Ninevites because once they heard that they needed to repent, they did. A revival went on in the city of Nineveh, and many repented of their sins. But these people were like the plants that sprouted on the rocky path. They repented, but over time they fell back into their sinful ways. Their repentance was not genuine and real, and the passing of time revealed this.
As Christians, we need to be making sure that we learn from these people’s mistakes and do not repeat them in ourselves. A perfect way to apply this is making sure that the Revival lasts all year, and all our lives. It is appropriate to use Revival X as an example, since the previous one just ended. Anyone who has ever been to a Revival knows that its an extremely emotional thing where you come straight face to face with the reality of your sin. Many people are greatly moved or even become Christians at these Revivals. We need to learn from the Ninevites and how they fell away after years passing. My prayer is that the convictions felt at Revival will last a lifetime! We cannot be the plants who sprout up instantly and are on fire for Christ when we first become Christians, then fall away when the “heat” comes. Being a Christian is a life-long revival that truly changes a person for the rest of their life. My prayer is that the seeds that sprouted at Revival X and all the other Revivals will be lasting plants (figuratively speaking). Also, I pray that my own faith will last through the years. The biggest test of a Christians faith is time. With time comes boredom, tiredness, and a lack of motivation. We need to push past these things and turn to God in prayer for strength. With God giving us the strength we need, being a Christian in this life is possible and has been done. Let the Revival Last forever! Maranatha!
3 Horsemen charging, flashing sword and glittering spear, hosts of slain, heaps of corpses, dead bodies without end— they stumble over the bodies!
This sounds like a very scary, epic battle scene. I can totally picture this in my head and just see all of the destruction and hear all of the screaming, and it is not something I like to picture. And God is destroying these people because they sinned against Him. Everyone of us sins, and when we do God doesn’t like it. All of the sins that we commit make God unhappy, and as we see in this verse, He pours out His wrath on those who continually disobey Him. Remember we will never be sinless, but we must try to sin less!
this showes just how much God HATES sin! we should all be going to hell but it was by grace that God sent down his son to die for us sinners.
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees
with first-ripe figs—
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater.
13 Behold, your troops
are women in your midst.
The gates of your land
are wide open to your enemies;
fire has devoured your bars.
Reminds me of how Adam and Eve attempted to hide after their sin–or like how Jonah tried to flee God’s command. There is no hiding from God, and their will be no escape from, or defense against, His wrath. I need to see the unsaved people around me like the people of Nineveh, whose city is being laid to waste because of their sin. A horrible fate awaits those who do not repent and put their faith in Christ. My heart should cry out for them and I should do whatever I can to warn people that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Jesus could come back at any day, and I know there are a lot of people who would be devoured in the mouth of the eater if that were to happen today. I praise God for His mercy and patience, and I pray that He will use me this week for His work of salvation.
Wow! This sounds like some epic poem written by Homer, but it’s much worse. These are God’s warnings at the people of Nineveh. The same people that God sent Jonah to preach repentance have fallen from their first love and have played the whore with earthly passions. Even though there is much wrath being spoken of, I am still attracted to God’s love in this passage. Nineveh turned from God, they chose evil. So, God, lover of all good and perfect things, will not let this stand and out of His love for good He hates evil. I think that’s a radical concept in this day and age. Loving good so much that one starts to hate evil because it corrupts and diminishes true goodness. But, I believe strongly that this is a biblical perspective. It would seem, to me, that if God didn’t hate evil then He never truly loved goodness. God is so awesome that He will one day wipe away all evil in the world in the end times. Hallelujah!
Another aspect of this passage that intrigued me was the quote: “Your shepherds are asleep, O king of Assyria; your nobles slumber. Your people are scattered on the mountains with none to gather them” (v. 18). Maybe I’m crazy but my mind shot right to Matthew 23:37: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!” In Nahum, God states that Nineveh will be scattered with nobody to gather them. On the other hand, Jerusalem, the city of God’s elect, will be gathered by Jesus Christ. I feel like this is another motif of the Romans 9 phrase “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” This may be my English honors critically analytical side coming out but I believe this isn’t a random coincidence. I am a strong believer that there are many motifs and imageries that transcend the books of the Bible so that God’s word may reveal itself not only in individual books but through the entire reading of his 66 book love letter. That’s why I love reading the Bible: there is so much more to learn about the greatness of my/our God.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
Whoa, this whole chapter showed how seriously God really takes sin. When I saw this verse it made me think about my own life. If God uncovered me for everyone to see who I really am, would I be ashamed? Yes. But I should be living in such a way that I have nothing to hide. I need to work on getting rid of my hidden sin. Just because no one can see it does not in any way mean that it isn’t as bad. God knows every thought and every little sin, even if no one else does, and he will judge us for EVERYTHING we have done.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
These versus go to show how much God hates sin, and the punishments we deserve for sinning. These versus also make me really thankful for Christ’s death on the cross, because they just remind me of the punishments I deserve. I deserve to have filth thrown at me and to be made a spectacle, I actually deserve a lot worse but because of God’s sacrafice I don’t have to recieve those punishments. Our God id a good God and he does love us very much, but our God is also a just God and we need to remember and understand His power. THese versus declare our great and holy God’s power.
LEXI!!! :) i am so happy to see you on SOTD girlie!!! :D
1 Woe to the bloody city,
all full of lies and plunder—
no end to the prey!
God hates sin so much that he curses cities that sin. he hates it so much that he would rather through up. for me that is a lot. to have the painful feeling of throwing up and being sick. God hates it that much that he would trough it up to get rid of it. i need to see how much God hates sin and notice more of my own sin that has almost become a habit. i need to also rely on God to help me get rid of my sin.
As we read God’s word and listen to the teaching of pastor Bobby, Ben, Lucas, and Mike; also what is on the hearts of the SOTDers, God strengthens us in the Holy Spirit. Also, when we ask Him for help to over come our sin.
The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth. Psalms 145:19
18 Your shepherds are asleep, O king of Assyria; your nobles slumber. Your people are scattered on the mountains with none to gather them.
If a shepherd knew that there was a bear or a lion near his flock he would not be sleeping. He would be on the alert, watching his flock and making sure that the danger did not come near. Likewise, if the nobles and rulers of a city felt threatened by a foreign power, they would spend their evenings strategizing, amassing armies, and trying to gain the advantage over their enemy. They would not be caught asleep. The motif presented in both parts of this verse is that the people are not ready. They are not expecting danger but rather peace, and so they sleep instead of preparing.
We as Christians can take a warning from this. Just as God was preparing judgment for those who were not expecting it, Satan is looking for Christians who he can catch off guard and lead into sin. there can never be a time where I am complacent in my spiritual growth, because those are the times when I am most vulnerable. Instead, I need to be filling my time this summer with prayer and reading of the Scripture, growing in my joy in the Lord and staying away from sin!
This whole passage is God speaking to Ninevah about how they are going to perish from His wrath soon. Not a soul will be spared punishment it says. Women and children will also be punished by God because of their sinful lifestyles. God is one day going to wipe out the entire earth because it refuses to follow His commands. Ninevah is but a small example of what God is going to do on the final day of earth. We need to be living each day preparing as if it is our last.
truth
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees
with first-ripe figs—
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater.
Nahum is intense! Every verse is filled with how angry God is! I loved verse 12 becuase it really shows how corrupt and not powerful man can be. Most of the time people try to control their lives, but when something goes wrong they flip out! I have been like that sometimes, and it never ends well. People build up things in their lives, acting like they can control everything, and to God, that is just rediculous! Here, God created the world, everything in it, every living creature, every person, knows their heart exactly, when man thinks they can control things! That is insane! I need to always think of how powerful God is, and I am not, and He controlls everything in my life.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
The most intense thing that this verse brought up to me was that God is turning against the people of Ninevah, and not just them, but the city itself. Because it sinned, God is going to make the people have an awful time throughout every one of their lives. We know that he saves us as sinners, and loves them so deeply, but in this case the Ninevah-ians have sinned so much and did not repent at all, God is so frustrated that he can not love them anymore unless they start turning towards him.
I pray that every time we sin (because we all do) we would confess that God is God, and that we have done something wrong, unlike the people of Ninevah who refused to repent.
hey Robin! (: its great to see you getting into God’s word and on SOTD! and that is an awesome prayer that you have. great post (:
Our God is so awesome! Reading this is horrifying, its scary. The only thing I can think of while reading this is how the Lord is so merciful to save us, sinners, from our own fate. Why did He do this for us? We dont deserve His love! We recognized that Jesus died for us, yet we still sin. But He is so incredible that He is willing to save us from His wrath. I feel so blessed, more than blessed, there are no words to describe how grateful I am that I will be in His city when He returns or calls me home. I am ready.
Also, I have some non Christian friends that I am choosing not to hang out with because all they do is just bring me down, I would much rather be encouraged by my brothers and sisters in Christ. After I told them they weren’t too happy with me and believe that I turned from them to save myself. I am trying to talk to them because some of them think they are Christians, but are blinded. It would be awesome if you could pray for them to see the truth, and for the Lord to work through them.
God is good all the time and all the time God is good!!!
Maranatha!
Praying for you, bro!
It is good to be ready! God is awesome for the work He is doing in your heart Justin! Praise God for your salvation!!!! I will pray for your attempts to evangelize your friends also!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
Wow! We all were dirt to begin with but God loved us and took us in to be His children. In verse 5 God says, “Behold, I am against you,”. That really caught my attention because it is a scary thought to think about! God, the Creator of the world, being against you! He is so mighty and all powerful that He can do anything He wants. Everyone deserves to be punished by God, but He sent His Son to die on the cross and gave us a chance to repent and turn to Him when we really deserve to be punished and separated from God for eternity! I am sooo thankful that God gave us a chance to be in His Kingdom for eternity rather than burning in hell forever.
3 Horsemen charging,
flashing sword and glittering spear,
hosts of slain,
heaps of corpses,
dead bodies without end—
they stumble over the bodies!
This verse makes me even more thankful that God is merciful and not going to give me His wrath, but gave Jesus my punihsment instead! God’s grace is so amzing and words can’t describe how much i don’t deserve it! I’m forever grateful for God’s love to me!! Thank you Lord for sending Jesus to take my place, because I only deserve to go to Hell.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
This is a really good chapter, cuz its saying how God is not of this world, and the world is against him.like in verse 5, we should be cut off from God and we shouldnt be going to heaven, but what Jesus Christ did for us we could have a chance to go to heaven forever with our God. Repent and put your faith in Jesus Christ. We all have to realize n me to that we dont deserve to go to heaven but we deserve to go to the lake of fire. thats why we give God praise about everything and we follow him, he madethe heaven and the earth why wouldnt we wanna follow him,? hes a really big God,why wouldnt we be on his side.! i love Jesus Christ soooo much i cant wait till the day i meet him face to face, are u living for this life? or getting ready for the next life. Maranatha!
4 And all for the countless whorings of the prostitute,
graceful and of deadly charms,
who betrays nations with her whorings,
and peoples with her charms.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
God shows us how much he detests sin and all the worldly things we can get caught up in because it seems as if everyone is indulging in this sin and its not out of ordinary to be doing something so its okay for me to do. But like Pastor Bobby said at revival all the people living it up right now will spend an eternity in anguish. We need to be out of the ordinary and not just do as everyone else does because God commands us too and also it sets a great example for others. I always remember Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. How great is our God to have enough grace to save us from an eternity of damnation is Hell even though we deserve it. We should obey God strive to meet his standards
I read…
There is no messing around with God; He will come after you if you do not stop sinning and give in to your fleshly desires. Since most of us that are commenting on here are Christians, let us work to tell others about Christ. I pray that the Lord would give me boldness and courage to confront others with perpetual sin.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
God makes it evident in His Word that He loves us very much, but He also makes it evident that He HATES sin very much. I loved the theme of Revival X because the most important decision we could possibly make is our decision on where we’re going for eternity. We do not want to be faced on judgement day with the wrath of God. That’s why it’s so important to be assured in your eternity because we never know when Christ is going to come back.
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees
with first-ripe figs—
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater
This verse really stood out to be in a spiritual aspect. We can’t profess to be Christians and at first act like one and be “into it” and then slowly start to fade. True repentance will be evident. We will all have spiritual ups and downs, because we are humans with sinful desires, but in those times we should always go to God.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
One main reason why people sin is trying to fit in with others, trying to compromise to please their peers and friends. God hates this, and He will abandon those who do this. But not only will He do this, He will also cause people to lose their reputation. He will “make [the wicked] a spectacle” and cover them with filth. While fitting in now may seem satisfying or pleasing, it will only end it separation from God and from others.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
This is soo amazing!I know that the Lord is a jealous God and wants us to only put our faith and trust in him. I know that whenever I get off of God’s path and I start to stray everything seems to go wrong and my life seems nothing good is coming from the way I’m going. But once I realize that I have fallen from God’s ways and head towards his glorious path my life changes for the better and when things do happen that isn’t what I planned and seems horrible and scary at the time I know that I have God on my side fighting my battle with me and carrying me through my struggles.
great to see you getting into the Bible, Britt (:
Verse 5
God hates sin. He is perfect, and holy and since he is he can’t be with sin in Heaven. It is going to be so awesome with no sin and temptation in Heaven! Sin will be no more because Christ will take his throne as King. But that is why we have Jesus Christ to cleanse us from our sin so one day we can be with God in Heaven forever. MARANATHA!!!!
7 And all who look at you will shrink from you and say,
Wasted is Nineveh; who will grieve for her?
Where shall I seek comforters for you?
As soon as I read this verse I thought of Romans 8:31, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Obviously Nineveh is not in this situation that Romans 8:31 talks about. In fact, they are in the opposite situation like it says in Nahum 3:5 when the Lord says, “Behold, I am against you,”. It just made me think that if God is for us and no one can be against us, then if God is against us, what does it matter who is for us? If we are looking at the big picture of eternity, God’s opinion is truly the only one that matters, and if He is against us, it wont matter if we have every single human being on earth on our side. Likewise, if God is for us, it doesnt matter if every single human being on earth hates us and wants to see us dead! God is truly the only one that matters because He is the only one who has the power to through both our body and our soul into Hell. I need to thank God for leading me to repentance so that I can be confident that He is for me and by my side. Also I need to stop being so afraid of what others think of me because Im a Christian, because like Romans 8:31 says, If God is on my side, what does it matter who is against me? (:
18 Your shepherds are asleep,
O king of Assyria;
your nobles slumber.
Your people are scattered on the mountains
with none to gather them.
This is a great verse. This reminded me of the state that non- christians are in. They are asleep, oblivious to GOD’s word. They do not understand, and even though disaster is at their door, they do not notice or take heed. Only GOD can change this state. I am so thankful for the LORD’s grace.
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
Everything we have is from God, His love is what you have. Acknowledge that God Loves you sooooo much , and love Him back! :) He is sooooo much more IMPORTANT than what people think is “important”, I think praying before you do anything will get you soooo much more focused and help you really to appreciate God’s love, and REALLY love Him back!!!!! :)
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
This verse reminds me about the sermon on Saturday. After you get all “pumped” for the Gospel we are satisfied. But as we are introduced into our past life we can stray…than never be satisfied truly! So stay truly satisfied with the gospel!!! :)
3 Horsemen charging,
flashing sword and glittering spear,
hosts of slain,
heaps of corpses,
dead bodies without end—
they stumble over the bodies!
This is a scary chapter for those who do not know Jesus! As many of you commented, this broadened my understanding to how much God hates sin, and how offensive it is to Him. I know that God’s wrath is not intended for me, but the thought of what He did to this city in reaction to their sins is very terrifying, and it makes me want to stop sinning even more! I pray that we would all have hearts and eyes to notice our sin and destroy it and eliminate it from our lives in reaction to these verses in Nahum.
This is so scary! God will destroy anyone who doesn’t belong to Him! Reading this makes me want to get all the more closer to God and eradicate all the sin from my life by following Jesus’ footsteps instead of my own inclinations.
Amen to that! :)
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
When I read this it reminded me of the passage where it talks about how in the end (those who are not christians) people will be bare and all of there sin will be confronted. This passage just really reminds me of how secret sin is a killer. We need accountability and we need to fight sin. And all sin will eventually be found out.
Well, im glad that were not living in those days anymore! I agree with Meisha on this, it does sound like a horror movie! Especially listening with the voice guy reading it! I got the chills!
Anyways, God takes sin to the extreme no doubt about it. It kinda follows up with last nights but in more depth though. He completely obilterated that whole nation, that must have been some sad site! However God really analyzes every sin cause no sin is big nor small, all sin is the same in the eyes of God. And that makes me really want to evaluate my thoughts and actions.
I thought of this passage as a tangeled mess of rope that with a lil time be can figure out. God is talking about a wicked city and more than that wicked people in general. This passage goes unto great detail on what God has planned for the wicked. We who r sexually imoral, wicked ones who compare ourselves to one another, and ones built on lies. During this vivid description my by far favorite metaphore is used. Vs 5. So I hope we don’t take this light, cuz He is serious (he seriously wants us haha:)
This chapter talks about how God hates sin and will punish sinners. When anyone sins even the tiniest sin, even a rude thought about a person, God despises it! Christians should be like this kinda too! Christians should hate sin because God hates sin. Sometimes it is hard to remember when people say a funny, but bad joke that it is putrid to God.
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil? (ESV)
this reminds me of what pastor mike was saying in the q and a that when your in heaven your not going to be sad about others in hell because you will know that god is perfectly just and they deserve it and this verse actually will be applauding god’s judgement that we undeservealing missed. do to god’s greatness.
2 The crack of the whip, and rumble of the wheel,
galloping horse and bounding chariot!
3 Horsemen charging,
flashing sword and glittering spear,
hosts of slain,
heaps of corpses,
dead bodies without end—
they stumble over the bodies!
God hates sin and punishes people for their sin. In this case Nineveh is being punished, but if we do not repent of our sins God will punish us too. God gave us the gift of Jesus Christ so we will not be punished like Nineveh was. He is so good.
MARANATHA!!!
It is a shoker to m just her that in verse three he said I am against you. Which reminded me that at our sermons and Revival X hearing that we may do a lot of good deeds but in the end Jesus will say depart from me I never knew you. I do t wanttjat to happen o me or anyone I know it is painful just think that some o our friends or even some of our family memebers are heading down the wrong path. We need to reach our hand and help them. Who know they migt ask you more abou what you know or even ask us to come to church. Are sin is no joke and should not be taken lightly. Jesus died on the cross for us and we didn’t deserve that so I believe it is our job to thank him and praise him to the highest extent and share the gospel.
This chapter seriously scared the poop out of me. I do not want to be punished for sinning, so I’m just going to keep praying for forgiveness, and for the strength to withhold from sinning, because God hates it.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
So, God wants to punish us for sinning, by making us feel as uncomfortable as possible. He is so against sin guys. I strive and pray to be more Chirstlike so that I won’t be punished like the sinners will in the future, who choose the wrong path will. We all need Jesus to help us to not sin, and I will pray for anyone I can, so they may not be hated by God. Because really, how terrible is that? Praying for forgiveness, and for A REVIVAL inside my soul, because I missed it this year, *sob…*
YAY GOD!!! :D :D :D :D WOOO!!!! SO thankful I am Christ’s child, and He is my savior!!
Jess, God loves you a lot, like, WAY more than you can imagine.
I think It’s awesome that you always pray for forgiveness! For the longest time, I didn’t. I didn’t know I should until a few months ago and I’ve been a Christian nearly all my life.
As a believer, God already forgave you the day you accepted Christ. He already knew every single sin you were going to commit before you ever even thought about it, and he forgave you. I learned that asking God for forgiveness is so that you recognize your sin and don’t become calloused to it. The guilt is crazy intense when you try to shrug it off like there’s nothing wrong. But anyway, a great pessage to read is Matthew 9: 1-8
Take care, friend. =)
Kimmy!! So great to see you on here!! Thank you for that! :D
You’re welcome. =)
I’m always praying for you guys!
8 Are you better than Thebes
that sat by the Nile,
with water around her,
her rampart a sea,
and water her wall?
Strongholds built by man are no match for the Lord. This verse describes the defenses of another country which was taken into exile and even though the defenses appeared to be indestructible, they too failed. Again today I’m struck with how much we think we “know” because of outside appearances. In this case, the Ninevites “knew” they were powerful, but in the end proved to be easily overtaken. God is powerful and is no match for security and defenses built by man. If the Lord wills, no amount of manpower can stop him from accomplishing his will. I’m praying that through the minor prophets we develop a high view of our God!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
7 And all who look at you will shrink from you and say,
Wasted is Nineveh; who will grieve for her?
Where shall I seek comforters for you?
God takes sin seriously. I sometimes fall into the thought process of, “Sin isn’t THAT big of a deal, God will forgive me anyways.” So many Christians think this and act in their sin, including me. We need to absolutely get rid of this thought and MAKE WAR AGAINST SIN!!! Sin is the very thing that seperates me from God, it is the reason for God’s wrath, it is the reason why Jesus suffered for you and me. Sin is a huge deal and we need to eliminate it from our lives, don’t take sin lightly. Sin only leads to destruction!
!!!MARANATHA!!!
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
It’s awesome that God is just, but we need to remember what that means about when we disobey him. He does get angry about wickedness, and clearly having God be angry about what you have done is not a good thing for you.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts
Against the Lord is the one place I would NEVER want to be for anything. There is no goodness except for in the Lord. Against God where I was before I repented and put my faith in Him, so scary to think that I was there once! I was the object of His wrath, and just like Nineveh, I deserved all the shame and punishment that is the just result of my sin. Jesus paid all of that… He took all my sin and shame. AMAZING. All the more reason to be so deeply grateful for the saving grace of our Lord!
This passage describes what happens when you dont turn from your ways of evil and become right in the eyes of God. He wishes for each and every one of us to repent and come to salvation but for those who resist, there is nothing but torment in their future.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
Woaaa. Scary stuff… These two verses paint a vivid picture of what God wants to do to the sinful nature that we have inherited. Thankfully, God gave us grace and sent His son to die for our sins so that we could repent (key word) and make a 180 degree turn from it. I am not sure how some people can just think of God as love… or that He loves everyone… or all of the other not true things that the world puts out there. According to this verse, He says “Behold, I am against you”. He is agianst those who are not christians. But He loves those who have accepted Christ into their heart and have decided and do live for Him.
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
This verse also stood out to me. God is serious about sin and we need to be serious too. I am sooo thankful that someday we will be with Him forever and not burning in the lake of fire! Praise God!
These chapters get a tad repetative, but I know that they need to be. The people out there reading the Bible don’t see this kind of God because they dont LIKE this kind of God. People only want the loving, forgiving side, and not the side of Him that is ready to pour out his wrath on the sin of this world. It makes me have such a higher view of God knowing that he is capable of doing all this–and having him against me is such a terrible thing!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakednes
Wow! This verse is so strong. The Lord hates sin and now he is finally putting his foot down and saying that he is agains Nuham & his sin. I will not lie, having the Lord be against you must be the scariest thing & I pray that I will never go through that. I know that I can NOT live my life without the Lord because HE is the one who gives me stregnth even when I totaly don’t deserve it. When he says ” I will make the nations look at your nakedness” I think he means like people will start seeing who you really are. The Lord is so powerful and so many people underestimate him& don’t give him enought praise for him. We as Christians need to stray away from sin and fight back satin & his wickedness; and we need to start living for Jesus Christ. I definaty hope to see none of the people I love go through what Nuham is going through.
Wow! I first off want to say that it is awesome and encouraging to see so many people getting into God’s word! Let’s keep it up!
This is one intense chapter! From where it talks about there being so many bodies that there are people stumbling other them to God saying He is against the Ninevites. It’s really scary to think of all this happening because just think if we were in this situation. If we didn’t have Christ and were completely indulging in sin, God would HATE us. And just that in itself is scary too because that is what Hell will be like, us being eternally separated from God. I praise God so much for His salvation for us and just for the fact that our God is a loving God and it is towards us!!
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
This really makes me think, are there times when God would say to me I am against you because of the sin in my life. Sin is like a disease untreated it grows into a huge mess and evetually will kill you. If we are not confessin our sin before a holy God then our sin will grow and grow and we will begin to forget just like Ninevah did and God will be against us. Lord help me to be obedient in all your ways giving you praise and glory so that there will never some a time where I would hear you say you are against me.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
We ever think it’s embarrassing to say “I believe in God” in front of people? God can embarrass people in front of the whole world on a much greater level. The comment about God’s team vs. His enemies’ team gave me a simple thought that may be helpful to keep in mind: God can empower us to overcome evil, but evil cannot give us any power against God. Nothing can.
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees
with first-ripe figs—
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater.
The fortresses make me think of excuses for sin. We build up excuses as if they lessen the impact or something but in reality it’s like holding up a towel to block a hurricane. Better to face the hurricane straight on than put up such pathetic defenses. The terrifying thing is that it isn’t just those “big” sins that this applies to but those little things everyday that we don’t think much of because they seem insignificant. Our excuses may fool man but they will never fool God. Chances are He will embarrass His enemies not just for sinning but even more for making excuses as well. I pray that I will run from sin as if I’m running for my life, because something even greater than my life is on the line.
7) All who see you will flee from you and say, Nineveh is in ruins- who will mourn for her? Where can I find anyone to comfort you?
According to the Cambridge Ancient History “no other land seems to have been sacked and pillaged so completely as was Assyria. As it says in the Book of Mathew chapter 26:52 If you live by the sword you will die by the sword. That is exactly what happened to Nineveh the capital city of the Assyrians. God had already been merciful to the city of Nineveh a hundred years earlier when he sent the prophet Jonah preaching a message of repentance. Assyria was one of the most ruthless nations in all of Mesopotamia and God brought them down with hihs might hand. In fact the disappearance of the Assyrian people will always remain unique and striking phenomenon in ancient history according to the commentary I was reading. I too celebrate the destruction of the Assyrian nation because it is the proof that God’s prophecies come true. I am really excited about the fact that Jesus Chrhist is coming again. I can’t wait to reign with him in heaven! I look at the historical fact of Assyria’s destruction and say God’s word always comes true!
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
In the end God will carry out justice. I’m very sad about what is going to happen to condemned people but at the same time every wrong against God’s people will be righted and avenged and sin will be destroyed forever. With this in mind I am reminded how I should not be seeking vengeance here on earth when people wrong me. Sin will be taken care of in the end; why should I take it into my hands to further sin by wronging someone else when they are going to suffer so much later? Instead I should be showing them love, turning the cheek like Jesus said, and evangelizing them so that they might hopefully repent of their evil acts. LORD, please forgive me for being so prideful and selfish when I want to take revenge upon someone when they wrong me. Please help me to get over myself and show them love so that they might hopefully repent instead of sinning against them.
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
6 I will throw filth at you
and treat you with contempt
and make you a spectacle.
7 And all who look at you will shrink from you and say,
Wasted is Nineveh; who will grieve for her?
Where shall I seek comforters for you?
how awful must it be to be on the “wrong team.” God was clearly against Nineveh and these verses describe the shame and torment that would become upon them. the same applies to our lives and to those who continually reject the truth and the Lord (Heb. 10:26). how awful must it be for those who are on their way right now, on the pathway to hell. let’s get out there and tell the world about Jesus people! MARANATHA
These verses truly show just how horrid, wretched, and disgraceful is to God. As a christian I need to take sin much more seriously. This reminds me of the quote from the song “Hosanna”: “Break my heart for what breaks yours”. I need to be in grief over my sin, and take it more seriously. These verses also show me a small glimpse of how much wrath God is ready to poor out on all sinners. I am so thankful God sent down Jesus to save me from God’s wrath!
MARANATHA!!!!
19 There is no easing your hurt;
your wound is grievous.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands over you.
For upon whom has not come
your unceasing evil?
This verse is so sad. There is no more grace available for them at this point because they had continued in their sin without stopping. Their judgment was coming and was well deserved. I am so thankful that the Lord will not deal with me according to my sins in what I deserve. Like Psalm 103 says, “he does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities.” I am so thankful that the Lord has granted me grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ! I love Him because of this which motivates me to be obedient and continue to repent of my sins and trust alone in Christ!
Hey… I read
I like verse 11,”You also will be drunken;
you will go into hiding;
you will seek a refuge from the enemy.”
I like this verse because it tells us what the wrong thing is to do. If you are a CHRISTian then you don’t have to go into hiding or drink away our problems. We are on GOD’s team! GOD can do anything and HE made a perfect plan and everything HE wants to happen will happen and HE knew it from the beginning if you are with GOD you have no one to fear but HIM. We can take refuge in HIM and he will shockingly accept us and be proud to have us.
CYA
The whole entire Chapter once again shows God’s great justice judgement. He hates sin and makes it completely obvious in the minor prophets. he constantly is talking about how the cities that sin need to be destroyed.
8 Are you better than Thebes that sat by the Nile,
with water around her, her rampart a sea, and water her wall?
17 Your princes are like grasshoppers,
your scribes like clouds of locusts
God Himself declares that He is against the Ninevites. Apparently because they have turned away from Him, His retribution is coming for them. He is set against them, and what happens? There is nothing they can do to escape or stop the coming of His wrath. He even reminds them that He let a greater, stronger city be destroyed before them, in case they thought that their own strength could save them. And although I think I’m taking the grasshopper comparison somewhat in the wrong way, it really is a great contrast. The people who they think are high and mighty are like grasshoppers to God. Grasshoppers and locusts: insects. Basically, God is on a level infinitely higher than man. Even what we might consider the smallest of the sins we (finite beings) could commit is worthy of an infinte punishment, because it is an offense against an infinite Being: God. God is so far above me, so beyond my ability to understand, that whatever high view I might have of Him right now, it will never be high enough this side of heaven. When looked at this way, the idea that He would stoop so low as to become a man and *die* in the place of a sinner like me is all the more incredible and worthy of the highest praise. Praise to Jesus Christ! LORD, please do not let the revival die down. Please keep working in our hearts through Your Word!
As I read through the description on Ninevah, I cannot help but be reminded about the sinful society I live in today! We live in a nation that has largely rejected God and deserves judgment.
As the church, we need to be salt and light in our nation. We should be standing out from the crowd and living lives characterized by righteousness. We should be holding out the truth of God to a dying world and praying for Revival!
12 All your fortresses are like fig trees
with first-ripe figs—
if shaken they fall
into the mouth of the eater.
I liked this verse because it really shows Christians, that the ones who stand firm and dont compromise will not fall into the devils wicked ways. We need to put all our trust in God so that we will not be shaken in this evil world. Jesus is the light of this world and we need to spread it to everyone so they can live in the light. Maranatha(:
5 Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of hosts,
and will lift up your skirts over your face;
and I will make nations look at your nakedness
and kingdoms at your shame.
God is holy and cannot be with sin! He hates sin, but has provided a way out of his punishment for sin. I am so thankful for the grace of God and what he has done for us. We are sinners and we deserve nothing, especially not God’s grace. Yet he loves us and sent his son to die on the cross for us, so that he may stand for us in heaven one day if we repent and have faith in him! I need to HATE sin like God does.
2 The crack of the whip, and rumble of the wheel,
galloping horse and bounding chariot
We will all one day stand before the all-powerful God and be judged according to our actions down here on earth!! God sees our sin but looks past it because he sees that we became disciple of Him during our time on earth!! But to those who chose to live selfish and sinful lives he dispises!! He judges them for what they did on earth for he hates sin says he is against those who were for it in their life!!
I like spencers referral to Lord of the Rings (just watched it the other day) when Gandalf is coming down the mountain and he is shining brightly making a reference when Christ is going to come back and ride down out of heaven on a white horse shining brightly!!
God will rejoice with us when we enter kingdom!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

declares the Lord of hosts”
