1:1 An oracle concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum of Elkosh.
God’s Wrath Against Nineveh
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry;
he dries up all the rivers;
Bashan and Carmel wither;
the bloom of Lebanon withers.
5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
9 What do you plot against the Lord?
He will make a complete end;
trouble will not rise up a second time.
10 For they are like entangled thorns,
like drunkards as they drink;
they are consumed like stubble fully dried.
11 From you came one
who plotted evil against the Lord,
a worthless counselor.
12 Thus says the Lord,
“Though they are at full strength and many,
they will be cut down and pass away.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more.
13 And now I will break his yoke from off you
and will burst your bonds apart.”
14 The Lord has given commandment about you:
“No more shall your name be perpetuated;
from the house of your gods I will cut off
the carved image and the metal image.
I will make your grave, for you are vile.”
15 Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him
who brings good news,
who publishes peace!
Keep your feasts, O Judah;
fulfill your vows,
for never again shall the worthless pass through you;
he is utterly cut off. (ESV)

Today we return to reading through the Minor Prophets!
We are halfway there and start the last six books with Nahum!
To read a blog about the background of the book of Nahum go here: http://www.churchforhighschoolers.com/blog/nahum/
15 Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him
who brings good news,
who publishes peace!
Keep your feasts, O Judah;
this is a great verse because God does bring good news to us.
Nahum 1:2-3 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Big Idea: God hates sin and will, in His perfect timing, punish it.
Contrast this with our daily bible reading in the main church in Acts 25:25a But I found that he had done nothing deserving death.
Then: Nahum proclaims God’s condemnation of His people and Paul, being tried for proclaiming the bad news and the good news of Jesus Christ, is under threat of death but the powers of the world don’t see his sin, his need for a savior OR THEIR OWN.
Always: in the eyes of the world you can do what the rulers command and still everyone does what they feel seems right in their own eyes. But God has a constant and unchanging standard of holiness that no one can live up to and therefore requires the death sentence because we can’t live up to it! Thank You Lord for the true Jesus that Paul proclaims and His salvation through repentance and faith!
Now: we need to recognize our sin and our unbridgable separation from the holy God! Only then can we see the most beautiful and amazing grace that He has to chosen to give us through Jesus. It’s not the world’s judgment but the Lord God almighty that we should live in reverent fear of and respond to His call with total gratitude. And, like Paul, be willing to live and die for Him every day.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
God is a patient God but that does not mean that he will not judge the guilty. He is slow to anger but he is still a just God. This reminds me of Psalm 50:21 where because God does not judge immediately we think that God is just like us and tolerates evil. This is so not true!! As we learned at Revival X God is going to judge for all of eternity those who do not repent. Those who do not repent will go to Hell and it is good and right that they are punished.
aw meisha i miss u! <3 great comment :)
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
Another minor prophet starting off with a city being warned about the coming wrath of God. This time, it was again about Ninevah, though many years after Jonah’s adventure to the Ninevites and when they had repented. Though there is no prediction of Ninevah’s redemption in this book, but only a fearful expectation of coming destruction from the Lord.
These two verses stood out to me because it shows that our God can be fully just and fully loving at the same time. The sharp contrast between the verses seems hard to understand, but in light of God’s character, it makes perfect sense. God is fully and perfectly just and will punish sin no matter what. But because of His love he has sent us a way out of that destruction. He gives everyone a way of repentence, but not all take it. This week it really hit me how perfect God’s justice is. Pastor Mike was saying that we won’t be complaining when we are in heaven and we see that our friend went to hell, but rather we will know that that’s exactly what they deserved and we will be wondering actually why we were even allowed in heaven. God truly is good all the time and a refuge for His people. The destruction that I fully and completely deserve, has been fully taken away from me because of Jesus Christ. That truly is the best gift I could ever receive and I am so thankful. I am praying that Jesus would come back soon so that I can start living eternity with Him!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
This passage shows both the justice and mercy of God. Just like we learned at Revival X, this shows that he will judge the wicked and pour out his wrath on them. However, he has also provided a way of escape for those who turn to Him. To the one who trusts in the Lord, he is a stronghold in the day of trouble. I am amazed and so thankful for the grace that God has given me in rescuing me from his wrath! Let’s get out there and share this Good News with those in OC who have never heard the truth.
Amen Katie!!!
This oracle Nahum rerceives from God about Nineveh being destroyed is reminding me a lot of God destroying those who do not repent. The imagery Nahum uses in verse 6 about God pouring out his heat upon the unbelievers is something no one should endure. The images from Revival about hell are scary and are described in this prophecy and we should not stop the Revival and pray for God to come! Maranatha!
Great to see you on sotd! Also its fun to see your using the nickname i gave you ;). Keep up the posts!!
I can definitely see why most of the world isn’t so into the minor prophets!
Most people have their own image of God which is solely a loving being. They don’t like to think of the other characteristics, such as vengeful, or just.
People just don’t want to have to think about that, because they really enjoy living the way they want to live, and don’t very much desire changing.
But the thing is that we must have this idea of God–that he will judge us for our sins, otherwise we will never come to fully understand and experience the side of him that is love.
In other words, if we never come to realize that we are disgusting sinners, and are soon to be punished for it, we will never have the desire to draw to God for salvation.
And so…I’m quite glad to be learning about this side of him! God is vengeful, and he is just! He’s going to punish everyone according to their deeds.
Great comment Jeremy! That’s sooo true…. How can we know how loving He is until we know what we were saved from?? I never really thought of it that way, but now I know I should!
I enjoyed reading this chapter. Some verses stood out to me. Like verse 2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. 3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm,
God is a very just God. We will all eventually be judged by him on everything we do. He will punish the guilty and take vengeance on his adversaries. He is still slow to anger but he is still just. We should make sure that when we are judged we are confident that we know where we are going after. One place where you go you experience God’s wrath and the other place is where you experience God’s eternal love and grace. We should strive to spread the word of God so more people can repent and be with God in heaven for eternity and escape eternal destruction. We need to know where we are going.
i read…
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
/God will and has gotten angry with those who dont follow Him or have fallen away. what i realized: this world means NOTHING but Heaven means SOMETHING. Heaven will last forever, although down here in earth it will not. so why not follow Christ? He promises us many things.
Nahum 1:2-3 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
God has the complete right to be jealous of His people when they commit “spiritual adultery” against Him. At first its hard to see how a perfect, holy God could be jealous. Isn’t that sin? But God’s jealousy is a holy and just jealousy. Think about it, God created the entire universe and everything in it right? If you truly believe this, why wouldn’t you also believe that the whole universe and everything in it belongs to God! This includes all people everywhere. And when Nineveh turned their backs on God and gave into their evil ways, God had the complete right to be jealous and angry because God is Nineveh’s rightful owner.
However, just because our God is jealous, this is not to suggest that He is quick to anger!! When I was reading this chapter and I saw that it was God’s punishment on Nineveh, I thought, “Wow, didn’t God just give mercy and grace to Nineveh? He changed His mind pretty fast!”. But after reading Pastor Bobby’s blog, and the notes in my study Bible, I saw that God had extended His grace on Nineveh for at least a century because of their earlier response of repentance at Jonah’s preaching. Exodus 34:6 says, “The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,”. So we know that our God is a patient and slow to anger God. But although He is patient, He cannot let the wicked go unpunished! His justice has to punish!
I need to praise God for being just because of His holiness!! Our God is so great! (:
Bobby wrote a great intro blog to Nahum. God is not like us. Because we are imperfect sinners, we should not be jealous or avenging, but because God is perfect, he MUST be those things.
I should not leave this chapter saying, “If I want to be more like God, I need to be a jealous, avenging person!” BUT there is something very clear about God in this chapter that I need to follow in my own life:
GOD HATES SIN. He absolutely despises it. As I learn more about God and see sin more clearly, I need to respond in the same way. When I look at the world, and ESPECIALLY as I look at my own life, there should be a certain level of righteous anger towards sin. I think reading through Nahum will provide an opportunity to reflect on how much I really hate sin.
Ok, so I’m not done yet. I looked over the chapter again, and a few more things jumped out at me.
God is not like us. God is good. (vs. 7) Therefore, his anger is perfectly good. This characteristic is so very different from us! Our anger is mostly twisted and selfish. God’s anger is always based upon goodness and righteousness.
Therefore, when we see God’s holy anger, our admiration, love, and fear of the Lord should all increase!
15 Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him
who brings good news,
who publishes peace!
This is definitely a good verse to start out with after Revival X. We heard some awesome sermons preached and they were all focused on the next life. This verse is great because now that we know the truth (and many have responded to it positively), we should be going and telling everybody what we learned and experienced. We should “bring good news” and “publish peace”
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
This is also a good verse for after Revival. God is truly slow to anger by not just destroying us when we deserve it, he allows us to live. And to make it better, He even gave us a way to escape his anger and to be one of his people through his grace.
But then the second part of this verse talks about the people that reject God and his laws. If we sin against God, and have not been redeemed by him, he will punish those who do. But that is also the good thing about God, he has given us a way out through his son’s crucifixion for our sins to experience his love and joy.
I pray that God would do work in the newly saved people and that the ones who already are, they would grow closer and closer to God. I also pray that I would keep the fire and tell people of the gospel and what I saw at Revival. 116!
Great comment, T Moore! God’s anger is intense, but people can find peace with God through Jesus Christ!
Amen, T-Moore! The number of people who were saved at Revival should incite us to evangelize even more frequently & fervently!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
This chapter is scary but it is also important for so many Christians to read and know about. Many people think that God is just a loving God that forgives us no matter what. He does forgive us but if we deliberately keep on sinning, what do you think He’s gonna feel? And since God hates sin and does not want it in his Kingdom, He is going to get revenge on all of those who took him for granit and chose not to follow his word. A lot of people do not know what is coming for them and since I know about what wrath is going to be poured out on them, I should be telling everyone about what revenge they will get if they don’t repent and I should be telling them of what God has in store for them if they decide to follow his word. 1 Peter 1:3-4 says, “According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,” I read this this morning and it really encouraged me to tell people about this amazing inheritance they have, but also to live my life for the next life which is in heaven! Looking at Nahum 1:2, it reminds of what I would get if God had not done work in my heart! I need to be doing everything I do for the Lord.
MARANATHA!!!!!!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
These verses show the sharp contrast between the grace and protection God gives to His people compared to the certain wrath and judgement He stores up for those who live apart from Him. I was sad that the repentance of the Ninevites written about in the book of Jonah did not last. God graciously spared the lives of the Ninevites when they heeded His message to repent, but now here they are living back in their sin. It got me thinking about the introduction of Pastor Bobby’s message from this weekend…a tale of two students from Revival. Both students claimed to have become Christians at camp, but only one truly changed when he came home. The one who let go of his old life of sin and started living a life of sold-out obedience to God’s Word is the one who really became a Christian. The student who claimed to become a Christian, but came home from Revival and got caught right back up in his sin did not. Nahum is clear that God will only give life to those who are truly His, those who walk the walk behind their talk. My prayer today is that the 50+ people who claimed to have repented of their sins and trusted in Christ this weekend would heed the warning of the book of Nahum…once we claim to repent we must live like it or all we have to look forward to is God’s wrath and judgement.
Great comment Beth! The contrast between God’s great wrath for those who rejected him and his amazing grace and mercy towards those who repented and sold out for him are polar opposites. And being one of those 50 to be saved this weekend I need to not let the hype that was started at revival die out and i need to continue to have that excitement to be in God’s word, and in prayer daily, and turn from my sins and allow God to mkae my descisions because I belong to Him now!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
This verse stood out to me because it shows, to me, the true image of God (to some degree). It shows that God does get angry, and powerful..but it says that He is *slow* to anger. He has the right to be angry, we aren’t exactly the best children in the entire world. But He has patience. He cares so much about us, that He’s protected us from eternal damnation in Hell. Being at REVIVAL X, & hearing everyone’s sermons was really powerful. But when it comes to Hell, Pastor Lucas’ sermon has been stuck in my head for days. The thought of being in Hell is one of the most terrifying thoughts ever. He showed it to be such a place that I can’t see why anyone would ever want to be there. There was someone on testimony night who said they just decided that Hell wouldn’t be that bad of a place, and they’d just hang with their friends & party..but after Pastor Lucas’ sermon on Hell, they repented of their sins & begged to not be sent there. If anyone has ever heard what Hell will REALLY be like, I can’t see why they would hesitate in asking for God’s forgiveness of their sins.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
I really really like verse 7 because to me, it is one of the “save me” verses. Pastor Bobby referred to a “save me” verse as something that people go into the Bible for..sadly sometimes that’s all they go into the Bible for. But when I come across one of these verses in my daily reading, I can’t stop smiling. It is one of those things that keeps me going in my hard times. It is a verse that, no matter what context, it can always comfort me in times of trouble.
Revival X was purely amazing this past week. I never wanted the experience to end, so I’m praying that the Revival continues on. Thank you to everyone who helped it happen. It changed so many lives, including mine.
It is so awesome what God has done in lives this past week! I agree with you that more people need to know about Hell and that it’s not a party place, since we who were at Revival know that, praying with you that we’ll all keep running for Christ!!
Thanks!! Yeah, absolutely, now we just need to tell others what we’ve heard.
i readd..
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
9 What do you plot against the Lord?
He will make a complete end;
These verses are saying that the Lord is just, When our day comes, he will judge us by how we have lived our life for Christ. Its either Heaven, or hell. we need to Live our life fully for Christ and Put him above ALL things. Do u know where your going?
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
This verse reminds of us God’s patience and justice. God puts up with a lot of pain and provocation as people rebel and sin against him. Because God is patient allowing time for people to repent it may appear that bad people get away with doing evil. That may cause some people to think that God is not just. But He is just. The second half of the verse makes it clear that the guilty will have to pay for what they have done. The guilty will by no means be cleared, they will have to answer. Because I am guilty as well, I am especially thankful to Christ who has taken away my guilt by dying on the cross for my sin.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
This verse says so much about how great God is. The Lord is patient and he is awesome. He promises us that the ones who don’t repent will have to endure his wrath which makes God a just God. God is so many things that we as humans are not but we need to strive to be like him everyday!
HEY… I read
I like verse 6,”Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.”
I like this verse because it tells the truth about GOD’s wrath. No one can stand it our last through it. If you do not repent then you will experience eternal punishment in HELL which no one is able to endure or find happyness or joy in. I need to make sure that I am not greedy with GOD’s word but that I preach it to everyone I can because If I don’t preach the word then I am giving up on another person going to HEAVEN.
CYA
Great point tanner!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
The Lord is SO alpowerful and mighty!! None of us can stand before Him and deserve anything but His wrath, and His wrath is terrifying. But the Lord saved us!! and us not turning from sin and from our old life to live for God and Jesus who died and endured an eternity of hell for us is the worst thing we can do.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
This is such an enpowering verse! to know that God, the Almighty and powerful Lord, knows me- thats amazing! He will bring me through any trouble and any doubt that is out before me. The Lord is my stronghold ^^ Its really great to know that Jesus has my life!! The Lord is just and scary and he will avenge all those who need to be, but His grace allows me to live!! yay!
AAHHH!!! You’re on SOTD!! It’s so awesome to see you on here Maddie!! :D Keep it UP!! (:
Great post Maddie! Seek His wisdom. Congratulations!
6 Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.
These verses really stood out to me. For all the non-Christians, the wrath of God will come upon them and He will give them what they deserve, because He is a just God. However if we are Christians, Christ will be good to us and He will be a safe haven for us, and we will be protected by His loving arms forever. When I look at verse 6 again, the description of what’s going to happen to non-Christians is scary. I don’t want anyone to face God’s wrath; I want everyone to be protected by Him. Throughout my day and rest of my life, I will pray for all of the non-Christians that they would turn to repentance so that they can be safe in Jesus’ arms forever like us. Also, every time there is a chance for me to tell others about God, I pray that I will have the strength and courage to do so.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
These verses are a great reminder that God demands to be most important in our lives! sometimes we forget this with all of our possessions and this makes God upset and jealous. Since God demands number one when we forget to make God our number one priority he can show you his power and remind you that he is the only way and that he is the only water that can fully satisfy you. This has happened to me and my family this year when God let us financial problems and reminded us the little significance of money, and how money is the temporary thing whearas he is forever almighty and perfect and he is one we should be banking and relying on. In verse 3 it talks about how God is slow to be angered and this can be a great example for us and how instead of tearing someone’s head off everytime they upset us we need to be relaxed and give them grace just as God gave us. But it also says that God doesnt let sin slide under the rug and we need to be the same way and not let even the little sins in our lives or the lives of our brothers and sister in christ slide by because God hates all sin.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
These verses display how the unfathomable mercy shown to those who sold out for him will be a polar opposite to the almighty wrath that he will force upon those who rejected him. This is a great reminder that we need to be proactive about speaking the truth to people who dont kno it and pray for those who do it kno it that God will work on their hearts.
You are sooo right, when someone upsets us, who are we to go judge them and get upset right back at them?? God knows their hearts and He will take care of it. ANd most definitely should we be active in sharing His truth!!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
At first these two verses seem to contradict each other. Verse 2 tells us that God is angry and vengeful, and yet verse 3 tells us that the Lord is slow to anger. As many have pointed out, God isn’t like us! When we get angry (at least when I get angry and lose my temper) I fly off the handle and release my anger in a moment. But God is slow to release His anger. When we sin against Him, He doesn’t come from the sky and smite us. Rather He is patient. But this also doesn’t mean that He doesn’t get angry and isn’t a vengeful God. Verse 3 says it plainly, He will by no means clear the guilty. It is incredible to think that from the time of the fall all the way up to Christ God was so patient. He was angry at sin, but instead of killing and damning all of the OT sinners (which was everyone in the OT) He poured out His wrath on His Son at the cross. Not only did He pour out His wrath for the OT believers, but He punished His sin for all of the “post-Christ” believers. That is amazing! God’s patience and His wrath are two incredible things! I need to be praising God for His patience in my life, and I need to seek to not make Him angry. From Nahum 1:2-3 I know that God is patient, but He also is an angry God, and rightly so!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
This verse reminds me of my favorite worship song EVER called “He Loves Us”, maybe some of you have heard it. It starts out with “He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane I am a tree”. This verse shows us that God IS a jealous God. But wait, jealousy? Isn’t that bad? Not in the way that He is. It’s still confusing for me to think about, but it is a righteous jealousy/anger. He doesn’t want us going after anyone but Him, and I can live with that! (:
I like that song too :)
great seeing u on here kyle !!
What a great chapter, So great that I’m going to have to do a post on the whole thing! It is an amazing feeling knowing that the Lord has your back in any situation. Especially with the glimpse of wrath that we can see God showing us here. Mountains melting, see drying up completely? I’m glad I’m saved from that. It’s great to know that He will get me through my struggles and hard times to come with the battle for Christ’s glory on earth! It’s also great to know that we can take refuge in Him, especially because I know that He will never stab my back. He protects you and me from His wrath because we have our faith and trust in Him. Now we just need to get others to do the same! Revival was an amazing breaking point in the fact that I lost count of people standing up on reflections night, and knowing that there were so many more that were going to stand up and profess their newfound faith in Christ! I hope and pray that the revival would not stop there, but would continue to grow until that trumpet sounds! Maranatha!!!
AMEN!!! :D
Now that was Sick! Thanks for all of your help at REVIVAL brother.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
This kind of jealousy is a good and righteous jealousy and when they say the LORD is avenging and wrathful he is talking about against the ones who completely reject his words from the bible and the teaching of the bible from the pastors.
14 today!!!!! 8)
Happy birthday! :)
7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
I love these verses because it starts off with showing Gods goodness and mercy and love, then went to showing His justness and wrath.
Many people don’t have the right picture of God.
They think, “Well, God gave us the opportunity to be saved and be with Him for all eternity, He must be a loving God.”
While others think “Well, God chose only certain people to get to heaven and the rest to perish, He must be a just God.”
It’s important to understand God is both loving and just.
It’s important to show those characteristics of God when witnessing, and even for ourselves to remember because so many are misinformed.
Praise God for His love and mercy to all sinners, and praise Him for His wrath and just judgement to all who don’t repent.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
He won’t clear the guilty. In other words, God already gave us a chance to turn from our ways by sending Jesus Christ to die once for our sins. So, it’s either take that 1 opportunity or don’t, because this verse makes clear that there is a separation between those who have taken His grace, and those who haven’t, and those who haven’t are not going to get a second chance. This is echoed here:
9 What do you plot against the Lord?
He will make a complete end;
trouble will not rise up a second time.
No second times, once again. Like Pastor Bobby’s story of the person who claims to be changed at revival and then goes back to living in the same ways, there is no second chance. There is a fork in the road, and two roads that go on for eternity. There aren’t any roads along the way that cross back and forth between the two, so don’t expect to use them. If we try to hide in our own crossroads, God will find us there in darkness as in verse 8.
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
This stood out to me because it reminds me how God does not instantly punish us here on earth for our sins. When we sin, He doesn’t instantly vaporize us with fire. The thing is that all this is to come at the time of judgment, and I fear that since that time isn’t the attention-consuming now, we can get the messed up idea that we can stand before His indignation. This is an awesome example of how when some people say that fearing the Lord only means being reverant, they aren’t getting the whole picture. God is fearful on a level we will never comprehend in this life, but fortunately we can join His stronghold instead of being destroyed by His wrath.
ahhh! Josh! It’s sooooo great to see you on SOTD! keep it up :)
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
This entire chapter is an awesome picture of God’s power! He is just, He is jealous, He is loving, He is good. Over and over and over. This verse stood out to me because it kinda scared me. We. Can’t. Do. It. Stand before Him in heaven? Nope. Escape His wrath? Nope. Make it to heaven? Nope. But like Jeremy said, because we’ve seen what we can’t do and just how scary falling into the hands of a living God is, we can see the love He has for sending Jesus to us!! Now we can truly understand His love and mercy and just pure awesomeness!! No one can face Him alone because He can’t stand our impurity. He is just and all we deserve for our sin is an eternity separated from Him in punishment, pain, and torture. But oooohh no, Jesus died for us and now we CAN go to heaven and escape His wrath and meet Him one day… Only because of Jesus Christ. Praise to our Lord and Savior!!
My prayer is that everyone who was saved this past week or a year ago could keep the revival going and that we could all be bold in sharing the gospel and standing up for Jesus in school!
MARANATHA!!!!!!
Great comment!! Praise Jesus, for now we can experience God’s awesome love!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
i like these to verses because they show how different life is for you in your faith is not in Christ. God is good all the time to those who believe in him and follow him, but to those who dont he will say he never knew you and shut you into darkness forever! God is forgiving and loving to those who repent but if you dont then you will not be with Christ in heaven.
Let me just start off by saying study bibles FTW! if it werent for my awesome study bible most of this would be so hard for me to understand.
(v.2) The Lord is jealous?! i had heard this before but i didnt realize how often it is reiterated in the bible. Jealously to us refers to something sinful and wrong but God is zealous for peoples faithfulness. Gods jealously shows his love for us, not selfishness or lack of control.
(v.7)The start if the chapter talks about how God will punish the people of Nineveh and then verse seven talks about the Lord being good? Does God have mood swings?! NO! although it seems sometimes he changes his mind abruptly from wrath to comfort, it makes it difficult to see that his love is compatible with his judgement. God never changes, and his character and actions are consistent all the time. God loves his people and hates injustice.
Im SO happy to finally be on SOTD! keep the Revival going!!!
I have been struggling with this trial for…four months now and I’ve been confused about everything and at this moment, I don’t understand why God is doing this….but this passage has reminded me that I don’t really need to, that God is much bigger than I am and He’s got it all worked out. He will judge for my sins and the sins of others…and I don’t have to be the one to do it. I just need to chill and sit back and see where my heart is….because obviously God is tugging at it like crazy for a reason. I’ve been pulled lately from my left and right and I just need to go with the flow instead of fighting against it. Maybe I just need to let go and let God take me to where He wants me to be…Maranatha is right.
I will be praying for you B! so true that God is so much bigger than our trials :)
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
This verse stood out to me because I know that I can come to God with all of my problems, and pray for safety, or forgiveness. Whatever it is, God will always be there to answer, no matter what. “a stronghold in the day of trouble,” God gives Himself as something to hang onto. When no one is there to give you answers, look to God, because he has all the answers. Like my favorite worship song by Francesca Battistelli, “You’re in control, even when I don’t know where my life’s gonna go You’re keeping me guessing.” God knows what’s in store for you, before you do, and He knows who is going to rely on Him for those answers. He will always know how to help His followers, His children. How great is our God?? I am so baffled by His power, and His strength! What an awesome person to trust! Maranatha!! :D :D :D
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
I like the new format of this website btw! I’m so glad that although life or circumstances won’t be good but God always is! And that is why my contentment level should always be the same because He never changes and God’s grace is sufficient enough for me. Lately, I have been dwelling on my problems and trials instead of focusing on God’s goodness. He is so full of compassion and a mighty fortress to put my hope in.
amen wonton! :)
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
These verses show that God is 100% good and 100% just at the same time. In fact, even though they seem like a contradiction, God would not be good if he wasn’t a judge. This made me think of an fictional example similar to the one we used in evangelism last night: A man named Jim is accused of murder. His judge happens to be his best friend. There is clear evidence that proves Jim is guilty. Because his friend is a just judge, Jim is convicted and sentenced to death. Jim’s judge/best friend then shocks everyone by saying he will take the death sentence for Jim and asks if Jim will accept. If Jim were to decide not to accept this free, generous gift, of course the judge would be angry with him and punish him.
We are clearly guilty. If we decide not to accept God’s free gift, of course we should be punished with eternity in heaven. God has to punish wrong. But God is SO good that he took the punishment for us.

5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
This is amazing to me becuase their is only one person that can make this happen and it is God. I am just in awe how you can love someone soooo much that the hills melt and and mountains quake. But is this when the world ends or just like a random time?
awesome savie!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
God is not quick-tempered like many of us sinners in this world can be, but “slow to anger” and therefore when he is angry, he is indignant (meaning he has a right to be). The Lord has good reasons for when he does become angry, like when his children do not obey him. We should always fear him because his power is greater than our greatest understanding and he is so grand that “the clouds are the dust at his feet”. I need to practice always being slow to anger and patient, because in order to love God by obeying his commandments, I need to live my life in a way that “love is patient, love is kind”. I want to also encourage others to not become angry with each other, but love and listen. And God is constantly watching over us, so we need to be pleasing him instead of pleasing ourselves or pleasing men.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
Our God is a just God, a Holy God. He cannot allow anything unholy or sinful into His presence. For some people, they only focus on how God is a loving God, yet forget and don’t realize how HOLY and JUST He is and how He will punish those who turn from Him, do evil in His sight, deny the cross of Jesus, and do not follow His Word. The sad thing is that we are all sinful, undeserving of God’s grace and mercy, yet He gives us the free gift of eternal life, for those called according to His purpose and those choosing to believe. Which brings me to verse 7..
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
God is good.. all the time! And all the time.. God is good!
Great to see you posting, Ryan!
5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
I love this verse!!! God is so powerful and omnipotent that the mountains shake and the hills melt. With the earth and heavens and all the world and people who dwell there before him, he decides where they will be for eternity. I think this verse really captures how awesome and almighty He really is, this verse should amaze us and also put a fear in us that God is in control of all things and he decides our eternal fate whether we are in paradise or in suffering. Everytime we sin against him, we are defiling his glory and righteousness. I definitely need to keep that in mind.
Maranatha!!
One last thing, could all of you pray that God would heal me from being ill. Thanks.
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
This shows that God is to be feared. How can we respect Him and put Him above all else if we do not fear his power? Who else do we know that can cause mountains to bow before his presence? No body is like Him. Our God is just, he does feel anger at those who ignore his word and live in sin. He has a punishment set aside for those people, and His wrath will be amazing. This is so encouraging to me, because it keeps me in check when other things start to overpower my life. Maranatha!!1
yay! glad that u are on here Ritika!its was awsome meeting u at Revival X and so blessed that u were on my team:)
7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he know those who take refuge in him.
The Lord IS good! I cannot thank Him enough for bringing me as close to Him as I am now. Without Him, I don’t know how I could be living my life right now. Satan has worked his ways in my family, but in Christ, I find peace. I don’t have to live in darkness, but in light. I have strength thanks to Him. If I just keep my eyes on Him and live according to the way He taught me, I can get through anything.
I found another favorite verse recently: “But he said, ‘What is impossible with men is possible with God,’” Luke 18:27. This is so TRUE, especially for me right now. I can’t do anything about what’s going on right now except pray. I know God will handle it. I don’t doubt Him for a second.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty
This verse reminds me of how at Revival we learned that God is a just God and that when we are in heaven or hell everyone will know that they got what they deserved.
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
A lot of people these days just get the second of these two verses, that God is love. Yes thats true, but he is also just and if we dont accept the one way out of hell then he will not be comforting. God is comforting to those who obey his commands and live just as Jesus Christ did!!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
I liked this because it shows how powerful the Lord is! He is in charge of everything and had complete control! The Lord shows his love and justice in this verse! What a great God we serve!!
5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
Wow! The Lord is such a great and awesome God! These verses just remind me of how amazing and powerful our Lord is! He is so mighty that “the mountains quake before him”. That just makes me want to be more and more with God and in Heaven. I want to be with the One who made it all for eternity and who is so wonderful that “the earth heaves before him”! Praise God for giving us the opportunity to be with Him forever and for His coming judgment! Maranatha Lord!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
God knows the true christians and God will punish the nonchristians, it feels good to have a god that is loving and also fair and just.
well, the beginning of this passage is very true, he is a very jealous God. He wants us to love him only and have no other idols before him. i beleive.
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
it is scary to have a God who is like this. it shows that he is just and will not allow everyone just to get into heaven. how scary would it be to be an Israelite at this time were God does wipeout cities that do not obay him and the punishment for many sins is death. even the little things as we learned to day with pastor mike that will ruin us and make us eligible for hell. if you had a huge glass of water that was a 100% h2o and then you took a little tiny piece of dirt and placed it in the water it would ruin the water and you would have to throw it out. i need to work on taking seriously the little sins that i think dont really matter and think of those like God does. this really makes me want to live to please him and serve him only and not myself because he will kill not only me but sed my body into eternal damnation were fire and sulfur burn and there is a crying and gnashing of teeth.
niceeee keep it up!!!!!!
great comment!
Josh Im loving the awesome step up in your comments after becoming a Christian! Gods work is showing!
Wow that brings Glory to God! Solid Post Josh. Sin is sin to a perfect God no matter how big we think the sin is. Stand with Christ brother.
I really like how the entire chapter really magnifies God’s greatness and power. All the verses are stating the great truths about how wonderful and great God is and how he is holy. This chapter also talks about God’s incredible holiness. We should constantly be praising and worshipping God for all that he is, and for his great and holy qualities.
I Agree!
I think this is one of the verses you can find at In-N-Out(:
Nahum 1:7- The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
God is jealous. God is avenging. People see the power of our God in these first couple of verses. He can make the rivers and seas go dry. The earth trembles at his presence. This is not the God you want to be rejecting. He is not afraid and willing to punish you.
Is this unjust? Why should we receive infinite punishment for a finite crime? Not at all! Take a closer look at verse six, and you will see the word indignation.Indignation is a strong displeasure at something considered unjust, wrong, evil. We deserve this punishment, it is completely just. And if you look at it apologetically, a sin against an infinite God deserves an infinite punishment.
The only other option besides rejecting God is accepting God. God is good. God is a stronghold, a refuge. In fact, he is the only refuge that is going to save you from eternal damnation through Jesus Christ. Through the good and bad times in your life, he will be there. Through the easy and the troubling times, you will be safe in his hands. Jesus Christ is the only strong and dependable refuge you can count on. We only receive this opportunity because God is good all the time. And all the time, God is good.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him
This chapter really simplifies the attributes of God. That is awesome!!! I loved verse 2 because it says that God is wrathful, but it says it so intensley! Not only is God wrathful, and takes vengence, but He also is loving too. He will love and take care of those who love Him and serve Him! It is so awesome to have a just God that cares for His people! I need to follow God’s example of being loving and just toward others!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
The Lord is SO good, all the time. This verse just really emphasizes how truly awesome He is and what a great God He is in our happy times and also in our not so happy times in life. He is a STRONGHOLD in the day of trouble. He KNOWS those who take a REFUGE in Him. He is my everything and I cannot express how happy and blessed I am to see Him working in my life, even over two days. I know He knows me, and will always be ther for me and that is so encouraging and strengthening. It gives me more courage than I have ever had to do anything and everything He wants of me.
Maranatha!
Awesome comment Nicole! That so awesome God is already showing His awesome work in your life already! Im praying for you that He will give you that courage to stand up for Him at school this next year!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
This verse reminds me how powerful and mighty our Lord is!!! it makes me feel so safe and secure in Him when i heard this verse! He has the power to do anything and his strength is over bearing and amazing!! God is such a great cushion and stronghold for us with out him we would be absolutley nothing! He is so precious and amazing to me and when i read these types of verses it makes me so happy. i can never get enough of his word!! He is so good to us and really reveals us so much grace ad loves it really shows me that i need to do the same to the people who i may not like that much or i may just not even get along with.
God loves at all times and is there for us at all times so i really need to work on dong the same for every single person i stumble across in my walk and in my daily life.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry;
he dries up all the rivers;
Bashan and Carmel wither;
the bloom of Lebanon withers.
5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
God loves us SO much, but we need to remember just how powerful He is and fear Him. I don’t like it when people disrespect Christ because it’s personally hurtful and before we do that we need to remember just How powerful and holy He truly is. If he created the earth and the heavens and all of existence – then why should we forsake Him? We should be praising Him for everything, especially the little things in life, but also the big things. We should not be praising ourselves for our salvation in Him, but we should always give to glory to God in everything we do or receive.
MARANATHA!
Great comment Sarah!! God deserves all our glory!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
These two verses show how powerful God really is and describes who He is. He is a jealous God who demands all attention. He is a wrathful, just God. He has the right to judge people and express his wrath on them. Although he is slow to anger and wrath, he holds it in. But on the day he returns, all that wrath will be expressed. Verse 3 really shows Gods power, the clouds are the dust of God’s feet. Clouds are huge in the enormous sky but it says that the clouds are the dust clouds made my the feet of God! THat is huge and shows how big and powerful God is!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
This explains when God will release his wrath on Ninevah. His wrath will pour out like fire. Fire spreads very quickly and that relates to Gods wrath. His wrath will be poured and it will spread quickly. THe rocks will be broken into pieces. Its extremely difficult to break huge rocks, but God will break all of them into pieces. Our God is a mighty God!
way to go Allie! You said a lot of good comments. It is trye, God does demand 1005 of our effort and our praise. He is right to be jealous because He made us and we should be prasing Him 24/7!!
awesome comment Allie! I like what you said about the clouds as Jesus’ feet dust.. I wouldnt have thought of it that way and its a great way to think of it!
Nahum 1:3 “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.”
I liked this verse a lot. One of God’s amazing attributes is that He is slow to anger. Wouldn’t it be horrible if He was fast to it? This is definately one way I can strive to be like God! I need to make sure that I have self control and patience.. Also in the second line it says that God will by no means clear he guilty which means He iw just. At revival we had a message saying that because He is just people will have different rewards in Heaven and different levels of pain in Hell.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
The Lord is a loving AND just God. He will not forget to protect those who have put their faith in Him and who live their life for Christ’s sake. God will make sure that those who need His protection will recieve it. To those who would forsake Him or mock His name, they will be utterly destroyed and thrown into darkness for eternity. I don’t know about anyone else, but I for sure would want to be the one that God protects and looks out for. I need to be giving God a reason to call me His good and faithful servant by following His commands. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!
the lord is a jealous God….like pastor mike said today in his sermon. we must not give any credit to ourselves or anyone other than God. He is the one we need to give all the thanks and glory to!
Great post Summer T. I am so happy that you are trusting in Jesus Christ. I am so glad that you were able to go to hear Pastor Mikes message this weekend. Get Wisdom!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
I love the strength and power in this verse that explains hows powerful GOD is. The fire explains the fierce and all-consuming wrath the could happen any second, day, year, or thousands of centuries. We need to repent and have faith in God in order to withstand this horrible wrath of fire, heat, and many other things. God can make anything and everything happen!!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. 3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
These three verses stuck out to me because of how it explains Gods wrath and anger, yet with accordance to His ability to control His anger and and His the power He has. It is awesome to know that He is slow to anger, but also that He is avenging and wrathful, and as verse three says: by no means will He clear the guilty. This is amazing because for a mere person to be wrathful and avenging, yet have full control over his anger, would be next to impossible. So to see that He does this is even more astounding!
9 What do you plot against the Lord?
He will make a complete end;
trouble will not rise up a second time.
What stood out to me about this verse is how there is nothing that can be done that would defeat God. And when I am in sin I am against the Lord as the Lord says he is against the sinner. So it becomes a question of why sin and when I read this it is clear there is no benifit to it whats so ever, and it is clear that the sin will be punished by God. I pray for the day when “He will make a complete end” so the sin will no longer be a temptation and that until that day I live for Christ and not against him.
First of all i would like to state that…REVIVAL WAS SICK. anyways, I think that this chapter really shows that God is in control and he can do anything he wants to the Earth. If God is angry he will pour out his wrath upon us. I believe that God also uses this in our own lives. When we think we are better than everyone else, God will give us something to humble us. Whether it be crooked teeth, big stomach, bad hair, disease, or any lack of ability. If you are rebelling against God, he will let you know how he feels. Im not saying that people who follow God dont have bad things in there lives, but know that you will be sound with God.
Love your passion for Jesus Christ. Thanks for your honesty in small groups Zach. I can’t wait to see how God will use you for His purpose and will.
13 And now I will break his yoke from off you
and will burst your bonds apart.”
Prophecy. Don’t you just love prophecy? Well, anyways, what did Jesus come to earth to do? He came to build a bridge between God and man. Man was separated from God by sin and Jesus (who is God) took our sins upon Him so He could account his righteousness to us. Once we were called “not-his-people”, but now we are called His people. Application for this is simple. Sinning as a Christian is a direct slap to the face to Jesus. God, help me sin less and less. Let me not disobey you Lord. Amen.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
God is the Ultimate Judge, its only by His Grace and Mercy that we’ve been able to last this long. Quick to speak and slow to anger, this is a prime verse (forgot the reference D: ) for those who have anger issues like me, especially since most of the reasons for that kind of situation has to do with pride. All of these things, whether good or bad, should be left to God, for He is the Ultimate Judge.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
This verse explains how God is a just God, and He cannot be in the presence of sin, so therefore we all deserve to go to Hell. But, because of His neverending love and grace, He sent His son so that we could present Jesus’ resume to God and spend eternity in Heaven. Our God is so awesome and good, it blows me away the amount of mercy and love He shows us, sinners, who deserve Hell but in its place get eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ.
great comment :) God truly shows us inconceivable amounts of patience and mercy and its mind blowing to think what He does and how undeserving we are of it!!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
He knows those who take refuge in Him.
I really liked this verse. Most of this chapter speaks about God’s wrath and the punishment He will deem upon those who are guilty of sin. This verse, however, offers hope for us as Christians. It clearly states that the “Lord is good.” He is referred to as “a stronghold in the day of trouble” and that “He knows those who take refuge in Him.” If we trust in the Lord with all our hearts, He will protect us from eternal punishment. In other words, if we repent of our sins and allow God to lead our lives, He will! This verse really reminds me of the story of Noah. Noah placed his trust in the Lord: he trusted that God would save him and his family from the flood. God did just that.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry;
he dries up all the rivers;
Bashan and Carmel wither;
the bloom of Lebanon withers.
5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
this passage just makes me want to praise god for two reasons. one: to praise him for saving me from his wrath that i completely deserve.two: i think any body that melts hills deserve everybody’s unending praise.
So would you give unending praise to a volcano? (;
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
This verse spoke to my heart right away especially the part where it says “the Lord will by no means clear the guilty”. There is one way to heaven and in his Word, God is clear about that. This verse totally backs it up. It proves that he is loving but 100% righteous.
awesome comment Tate! (: its great to see you on SOTD <33
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
This week I put some lyrics from the song “out of the darkness” as my status and I was really thinking about them and this verse has such a good example of the way that works. I was an object of God’s full wrath (verse 8) but because of his loving grace and mercy, I can be covered with Jesus’ blood and be allowed into God’s glorious light and take refuge in him (verse 7). How amazing the transformation! I can run to the God of the universe as my stronghold, when before I should have run AWAY from him out of fear. Thank you Lord for your amazing grace that I can be in your glorious light!
Awesome comment morgan! :)
12 Thus says the Lord,
“Though they are at full strength and many,
they will be cut down and pass away.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more.
13 And now I will break his yoke from off you
and will burst your bonds apart.”
So these verses jumped out at me. It is a little confusing to me, and i would appreciate if someone could explain a little of it to me. I kinda think that it’s talking aobut how the world and sin and all the bad things are holding us down, and they are afflictiing us here on earth. But God promises to cut them off from us, and one day we’ll be in a place free of sin and everything bad. I can picture chains holding me down, and the chains are my slavery to sin. Because i’m a human, i was born from Adam, and therefore i was born into sin. But only because of the AMAZING grace of God, i can be set apart from sin! Like P. Mike said today, i do NOT deserve the amazing grace of God. I’m so thankful that He will let me be with Him forever, free from the hold of sin! I can’t wait for that!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
This verse spurs me on to get the word out there because I really care about what happens to everyone when they die. I do not want anyone to have to endure the terrible but righteous wrath of God, so I will spread how to escape it.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
This is an encouraging verse that strengthens me as I work to glorify His name in my everyday life, especially as school starts and Revival begins on campuses! I pray for boldness when I receive an opportunity to share His word.
Nice comment Annie!I totally agree with you and i need to do the same!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
This verse demonstrates that God is perfectly just. Though we deserve destruction for our rebellion and sin, God is slow to anger. He is patient and offers us an opportunity to repent that we don’t merit. God’s patience should never be mistaken for a tolerance of sin; instead, it’s a reflection of His great love and mercy. God will one day judge us all for our actions, and the end of this verse demonstrates the power He holds. I want to maintain a proper fear of the Lord and praise Him for his great patience and mercy.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
God is our stronghold. He is my refuge. When I am going through hard times, He helps me through it all. God is great!!!
9 What do you plot against the Lord?
He will make a complete end;
trouble will not rise up a second time.
This is a great verse. GOD will completely destroy his enemies. There is not resisting his power and his glory. Anyone who goes against him will not live, but instead be destroyed. There is no middle ground. There will be no survivors, no one who can resist the will of the LORD. His power is so amazing.
I read today and liked verse 3……
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
It is so easy to get angered by the things of this world, however God is very slow to get like that. I know that I should probably watch my tongue more carefully and watch what I am going to say before I say it.
Nahum 7:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him,
I like this verse alot because it is very comforting to know that God has you in his arms and that your under his guidance, and when your evangalizing this is a good verse to tell people and show them God’s kindness
Nahum 7:8 But with an overflowing flood, He will make a complete end of the adversaries; and will chase his enemies into darkness
I like this verse also cause it is showing us how God will take away people who talk down about christians and will chase away his enemies!(:
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
If you have become a christian God will always be there for you no matter what. Hes like a best friend that is with you all the time and will help you with all your problems no matter what and I praise him for this.
Great comment Kaylene! God is always there for us and its so awesome that He will never forsake us! Its so comforting to know that as Christians1
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
This past week I really learned how much God is jealous when He sees me wasting away my life with things that so useless! God loves us so much were breaking His heart everyday! In life our main goal isnt to break other peoples hearts, or at least it shouldnt, but were doing it everday. Even worse, we doing it to our one and only maker and creator. When I put it into that perspective it makes me never ever want to waste my time with useless things. Everday when I wake up for cross country for the rest of the summer, I have to have this mindset of how I can use this situation to glorify God. In everythign I do, I have to glorify God. My life is Christ, like we learned this past week. It needs to be like that everday and it needs to show it.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
Will by no means clear the guilty… We are NOT guaranteed a place in Heaven because of ANYTHING other than believing in Jesus and placing our trust in Him. Not being a good person or going to church… standing in the garage doesnt make you a car anymore than going to church makes you a Christian… or somthing like that:P… God chose to clear us of our guilt which deserves respect, praise, reverence, devotion and faithfulness like nothing else. Thank you Lord.
12 Thus says the Lord,
“Though they are at full strength and many,
they will be cut down and pass away.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more.
Enough said… persecution is promised to be repayed and we need not fret when we are harmed for the Lord. Thank God for taking care of His children! and finding the mercy and compassion to heal our hurts when we deserve to suffer with them as Jesus did on the cross.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry;
he dries up all the rivers;
These verses emphasize how majestic God is!!! He deserves unending REVERENCE and RESPECT. I know I have issues with showing God the respect He deserves, like if I follow different trains of though while praying, reading His word, during sermons etc etc and I pray I can be completely devoted to God in my thoughts and in my daily life.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
God’s justice is such that He cannot just let the guilty get away. And since I am so saturated with sin He would do well to utterly destroy me. That He punished His Son instead of me is so amazing. Lately I’ve been learning more about the evil of my heart and how I cannot love Jesus even after He died for me. He had to make me new and change my heart before I could even repent in the first place. That He would go to such great lengths to save the guilty is so amazing and I need to thank Him and give Him the glory He deserves.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies.
I really loved this verse because it completely proves all the people wrong who think that God is only a loving kind God. This verse shows that the bible is not sugar coated at all and plainly states the Truth. We should fear the Lord and His second coming. I think that no one will know how scary His coming will be until we are in that moment. I know that I have great fear for the Lord because He has all the glory, power and might. Yet He is so sovereign that He gave us a way so that we do not have to burn eternally in hell. Thank God for that because thats what we deserve!!
Great comment Lizzy! Great to see how you have been Revived! Keep it up!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
I liked this chapter because it showed a lot of God’s different attributes. He is so powerful and just plain amazing! What stood out to me the most was how it says he will by no means clear the guilty. This shows that God is just and he has to give every one what they deserve.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
God punishes those who disobey and sin against Him. But we need to remember that God is fair and just and that we ALL deserve his punishment. Yet even though God is just, he is also extremely compassionate and provided a way for undeserving sinners, like us, to go to heaven through his very own son, Jesus! Thank you God for the sacrifice of Jesus and for your amazing grace and mercy, so that a sinner like me could spend eternity with you!
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
God is loving and loves his people… However, God is just as well and he will punish us according to our sins. I loved Pastor Bobby’s sermon today about how we need to be getting out there and sharing the gospel with other people because so many people are unsaved and you may be the only way to reach out to them. I need to be sharing the gospel more with my extended family that are non-christians and warn them where they are headed; letting them know what Jesus has done for us.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
The mercy of God is forever. He watches over all who trusts in him. And God will be there for all who are Christians and his people. Those who are evil in the eyes of him though will face his just wrath. No one will escape from his anger and punishment for their wrongdoings.
Thanks God for a way to escape his wrath through Jesus Christ. He is good
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
Christ wants us to be in His word, doing what he has called us to do, and to live our lives for His glory and for no other purpose! We are so blessed to have such a jealous God that He wants us to be focussing on Him all the time. He doesn’t want us to run around and do nothing with our lives. We live to do one thing and to live according to what Christ wants us to do, not what we want to do!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
It amazes me still that we have such a merciful Lord! He is slow to anger, something we all need to work on. The lord is slow to anger and forgives us when we repent truthfully! The Lord holds us accountable for the things that we do wrong! He doesn’t forget over time but holds us responsible for the poor choices we have made in life and gives us chances to repent and turn back to Him.
Wow wat a way to start off a book? In lititure Rhys way they call a hook. Reading verse 2 just totally grabbed my attention. 2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enimies. This goes to show that God does really want us. Even tho sometimes it may seem te exact opposite, God loves us and does get very jealous wen we worship other gods in our lives instead of Him. We need to realize tht God does hav feelings and he has rightous anger and jealousy wen he can’t hav 100% of us.
12 Thus says the Lord,
“Though they are at full strength and many,
they will be cut down and pass away.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more.
13 And now I will break his yoke from off you
and will burst your bonds apart.”
It’s cool how God uses a sinful nation (Assyria) to accomplish His will (punish His chosen people), but will still hold them accountable and punish them for their actions. Even though God is afflicting Israel, He will still leave them a remnant and break their bonds (see Pastor Mike’s sermon). God is sovereign and holy, while maintaining His faithfulness to the Abrahamic Covenant.
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
I really like these verses because they talk about how poweful and perfect God is, while still saying that He is forgiving! Everyone deserves death for their sin, but God with-holds His wrath and gives all the sinners time to repent! He is so powerful and He deserves all praise!
v13 And now i will break his yoke from off you and will burst your bonds apart
God is the only person that has released us from the capitivity of death and without Him we could not escape the bonds of sin. This verse to me shows how God can free us of anything he choose and it is in Him we find the strenght to handle our temptation whether it be physical, like the evading peoples in that time, or the mental, like facing sin.
God is so faithful to your family. Worthy is the Lord of all Glory and Praise!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
I really like this verse and it reminded me of a beach night when Pastor Bobby was talking about how God is a jealous god and wants all of us and our whole heart, not just part of it. And how we shouldn’t have anything competing with God but that he is first, not just on our list but in everthing as well. I loved this chapter because it just shows us more about God and how He is not just loving like most people think but is also just.
YES!!! Christina is finally on SOTD! Awesome comment girl I thought of that too :] It’s so encouraging to see you on here and getting into God’s Word..Keep it up!!
Great comment Christina! Awesome that you remember that Beach Night and exciting to see how you are Revived! Keep the comments coming!
5 The mountains quake before him;
the hills melt;
the earth heaves before him,
the world and all who dwell in it.
This verse is so cool. It tells how great and powerful God is. It says that the mountains shake before Him and the hills melt. God is the only one that can do this. He is greater than all others. I love verses like this one because they remind me that God is in control of everything.
MARANATHA!!!
Don’t stop standing close to Jesus Christ. Get on facebook brother. Happy for you David. Praise the Lord!
Yeah David! You are pumping me up! Keep going strong for the Lord!
v5 The mountains quake before him; the hills melt; the earth heaves before him, the world and all who dwell in it.
This is our God we have a personal relationship with that will save us from eternity cast away from Him! With all He has done for us, we need to remember, just like Pastor Mike spoke about today, to not take any of His credit, glory, or holiness because He is a jealous God and we need to give all we have to Him and Him alone
I don’t know about you, but Nahum 1 was a very POWERFUL chapter! One of the MANY words that describe our Lord and Savior is . . . “P.O.W.E.R.F.U.L”
That’s exactly what these verses were saying. You know as a non-Christian, it may be hard to understand how God is 100% jealous, yet 100% loving at the same time. If you’re a Christian, He wants to be your refuge, and asks that you seek shelter in Him. The reason that non-Christian’s probably wouldn’t get that, is cause it doesn’t make sense. To say that someone is judging yet loving at the same time could be quite confusing. God judges, disciples and tests us BECAUSE He loves us. God can do that, because HE. IS. GOD. If God didn’t set boundary’s for us and let us run wild, then there would be no “walk” and no path to follow. Because he is good and cares for those who trust in Him, I am to take refuge in Him at ALL times, no matter the circumstance. God is so powerful that “the mountains quake before him and the hils melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, the world and all who live in it.” Great way to put things into perspective, isn’t it?
:D MY. GOD. IS. A. POWERFUL. GOD! :D
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,

first off what a great book of the bible, its going to be my first time reading it and im excited. i really like chapter 1 and stoked to read the rest of the chapters, i really liked verses 2-3 beacuse that was a very powerful verses..like are LOrd is a jealous Lord? people dont get that sometimes, that he wants all of you not half not 85% u are all or u are nothing..u are in or u are out.but then in verse 3 its says that are God is slow to anger and has great power, and idk bout u people but i would wanna follow God even more heres thoses words, hes so powerful he can do anything to u we made the heaven n the earth thats pretty AWSOME N SWEET huh? people of the world act like they are more powerful then God or people dont even belive in God but i just cant wait till the day Jesus Christ can come back to this earth n i pray that the people that we talk to every single saterday night and on are own about Jesus Christ they will think bout it, get saved sstart coming to our church or someother one, cuz like Pastor Bobby said that one moreperson God is waiting for u to talk to and they get saved. BAAAMMMM we are home with are God in heaven forever!MARANATHA
Sorry I wasn’t able to evangelize with you on Sat. Night. I am looking forward to evangelism night next weekend. Hope to see you there Anita. God is mighty to save. Now you have your story of salvation thru Jesus Christ to share with others so they might believe.
Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
It is amazing to me how God can pour out his wrath on people and punish them and also be merciful and full of grace!! Thats just what makes our God so awesome!! We need to fear God but also know that we can go to Him as our stronghold and our fortress that we can rely on 24/7!!
This chapter mainly talks about the wrath of God however!! We must be fearful of the power and might that God has because He has power over all things!!
God hates sin and will destroy it!!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty
God is a patient God but will not let the guilty go unpunished as well!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
This chapter is filled with a string of apparent contrasts (many of which seem flat out contradictory). Nonetheless, this is the truth of the Bible: God is both good and loving AND holy and just. This chapter obviously highlights more of His power, justice, and wrath against sin. I am reminded of the lyrics of one of my favorite worship songs we sing at True North:
“Who can stand / against your mighty hand? / For you are more than mortal man”
The question is rhetorical, the answer being that NONE can stand against God’s anger, indignation, wrath, and justice against sin. “One day not a one will stand.” And in the meantime, not a one could stand now either. This is something I need to remember when I meditate on the God who Is. He hates sin, and will punish it. In fact, He should punish me, if for nothing else than the fact that I am a sinner. I deserve His justice on my soul, b/c He is holy and I am corrupt. And yet, He is also merciful. Incredibly merciful. So merciful that He would send His Son, part of Himself, to take the punishment that I deserve for my sin. Jesus, the only sinless one ever, went through hell for my sin, so that I, a sinner, could be right with God. Praise the LORD for His amazing grace and love! LORD, please do not let the revival fade away! Keep working in our hearts!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
It is so good to know that I’m saved and that God will shelter me. It was so sad the other day someone told me that they hoped they would go to heaven, but that they couldn’t know for certain where they would go, and then told me that our final destination is decided by our deeds. The truth is that if they don’t give their life to Christ, verse eight is their future, which is one that I definitely wouldn’t want considering that God can make the hills melt. God wants us to share him with as many people as we can, and if we truly love others as Christ commands us to, it shouldn’t be a problem at all
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
God is so forgiving! i mean just look at ourselves. do we deserve heaven? no. we don’t deserve God’s love at all! Yet, God does punish and God will be avengeful to those who do not know Him. along with this, God is just. so thus he must punish the guilty like the verse says. God is soo loving and slow quick to forgiveness to those who know him thats why its such an amazing feeling to know God. God can do anything. “great” cant even describe his power!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Though the world constantly reminds us of God’s love and nevereding perfection, we rarely are thinking about who God actually is. The world portrays him as a happy creator, sitting in a nice big chair simply watching the universe unfold. The Bible, however, is our only legitimate source for finding the true answer as to who God is. Although the public is right when they say God is loving, merciful, and holy, they leave out a very important side of who God is. This is the side. Jealous, angry, wrathful, and avenging are all attributes of God that we don’t like to look at. These are some of the most important characteristics of God though and for those that ignore or reject the Gospel, these are the emotions God has prepared for them. Sin won’t win and God’s plan will prevail. The Lord is coming back like a thief in the night(1 Thess. 5:2) and we I need to be ready for His triumphant return. Let’s pray that the Lord comes soon!!! Maranatha. Come O Lord.
3a The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty…
Nahum warns of judgment, but also brings reminder. He reminds the people that God is incredibly powerful, but still slow to anger, and that he will bring just punishment upon those guilty and deserving. All three of these points are so encouraging. Our human nature is definitely not something of any level of perfection. We are very quick to lose our temper or get mad at someone. We would love for others to see past our mistakes, but we don’t mind cracking down on someone else when they have wronged us. However, God is slow to anger. Secondly,he is great in power. Without God, we as humans are weak. Being dead in sin, we don’t even have the slightest bit of strength that would come if we were at least holding some life. And thirdly, the Lord is just in his judgment. He rightfully punishes those that have rebelled against him and sought to live for themselves.
I need to be thankful for these specific attributes of God, as well as all other aspects which make him. I need to seek a slow response to anger like the Lord. I don’t want a short temper I will lose quickly. Instead, I want to lovingly demonstrate patience to others. I want to refrain from a burst of anger towards others, instead maintaining peace. Having realized that I truly have no strength, but the Lord is mighty beyond comprehension, I need to seek out his strength. I don’t want to be foolish enough to try relying upon my own self. Instead, all I do is through the strength God gives me and I want to use that strength to glorify him in all that I do. Lastly, I am so thankful for the Lord’s just judgment. I need to praise him that he doesn’t make exceptions for the rules or allow evil to slide. And this is only further motivation for me to praise him for saving me, that I don’t have to suffer the judgment I am fully deserving of!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
The wrath of God is powerful and does not ease for you no matter how small your sins are. We compromise our sins and make ourselves believe that certain things are okay to do even though in God’s eyes it’s not okay at all. A sin is a sin, whether it be murder or a little white lie God will judge you justly for it. We must repent of our sins and not sin deliberately because we don’t want to be surprised when judgment day comes and find out that you’re going to Hell for the things you have done. Repent and put your faith in God and live eternity glorifying Him in Heaven.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
readingc chapter 1 of Nahum has made me feel so blessed that i have been saved and do not have to experience Gods wrath! We have such an amazing God who knows who has, and hasnt taken refuge in Him, and will punish those who havent!
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
Who can endure the heat of his anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.
No single person on this earth can defy God safely! He is the Almighty, the Creator! The God who controls this world and has the power to end it at any second! I dont know why the Assyrians would challenge Gods power, no matter how powerful their empire was! God will CLEARLY give punishment to those who try!
maranatha!
Great to see you on SOTD Cristina! Keep going strong for the Lord!
Woo! Nahum!
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty
Praise the LORD we are saved from His wrath! But think about all your friends and family members and people you just know that are going to perish. Our God is a just God. People who go are not saved and do not abide by the Word deserve punishment. In fact, even if you are saved you deserve punishment. But because our God is so good all the time, He gives us the option to give up our life for Him and live it the way He wants us to live, all glory be to Him! Pastor Lucas gave us such a horribly vivid description of hell. I truly do not understand anyone who can listen to that message and still think that they can deal with it later or not at all. Knowing where you are going is the biggest deal of your life. Once you are born you are alive forever, and ever, and ever, and ever. Think of how short and insignificant your life is compared to ETERNITY!! Now you can spend that time rejoicing and being with the Lord Almighty or you can spend it under His wrath. Know where you are going. I do.
MARANATHA!!!
Thanks for your friendship JT. Praise the Lord for His saving Grace.
Yeah man! You are pumping me up! Can’t wait to see you BUILD others up this year! Keep going strong!
5 ” The mountains quake before him; the hills melt; the earth heaves before him, the world and all who dwells in it.
I like this verse because it is emphasizing how powerful and mighty God really is ! I never take into consideration how magnificent the Lord is, and that he can make anything happen.
Ryan I am so thankful to the Lord for answered prayer. He is awesome! Great perspective brother! Stay close to Jesus Christ. I pray that your new best friend will be a brother in the faith.
1 Corinthians 15:33 33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
Love Ya Bro
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
This verse is SCARY! First line: avenging. Second: avenging, wrathful. Third: takes vengeance. Fourth: wrath. Wow. Every single line talks about God punishing his “adversaries”. It reminds me of how we were talking at beach nights about God being jealous and just (and I forget the other one :O ). I need to make sure that I’m not on the receiving end of that! I know I’m not, and I praise the LORD for what HE has done in me to prevent that!
Verse 3
This verse reminded me of one of the sermons from Revival when they talked about when someone else does something bad we expect great punishment on them. But, we sin, and we don’t always expect to be completely punished for it.but here in verse 3 it assures us that God is powerful and those who are not saved will be punished for it. Reading this reminds me that I’m just as sinful as anyone else and praise God he has saved me from his wrath but I need to let God do the judging and punishment on others.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in Him.
This is so true. Before Revival X, I was caught up in worldy things. But after Revival X, now I feel secure in Him and I have a passion to go tell everybody about Jesus Christ!I want the revival to continue for months and even until I die! My life before Revival X was not even close to being focused on Jesus Christ and I kept on being sad over the fact that my dad betrayed me, my mom and my sister. But after I learned so much at Revival X, I figured out that God is all I need! This verse just makes it more true that God is all you need. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good!
Russell God has given you understanding and wisdom. God is all we need. He is our great comforter in times of trouble regardless of the situation. Praise the Lord! Never look back brother!
2 “The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.”
I am loving these verses because I am reminded of the gospel. I know that before I became a Christian I was an enemy of God and His wrath was about to be poured out on top of me. I know that I am guilty and that the only way that my guilty record could be cleared is through Jesus Christ being God, coming to earth, living a perfect life, dying as our sacrifice and raising from the dead in our place. I am so thankful that the Lord has forgiven me when I have not deserved or earned anything. I have no reason for boasting because I know for sure that the Lord has saved me and that I will never have to experience being His enemy or an object of His vengeance ever again!
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
I love this verse because whenever I am in trouble and feel all alone, I know that God is with me! He will never leave me and He knows that I will always want him and never want to leave him. I want to have a perfect, pure, strong relationship with my God forever and ever so that whenever I feel upset I know I will always have someone to lean on and to be there for me even if no one else is.
9 What do you plot against the Lord?
He will make a complete end;
trouble will not rise up a second time.
When God cleans up the mess we have made, He’s not going to miss a spot. He is going to wipe out all wickedness and sin, leaving nothing but righteousness. This is good news for those of us who follow Christ and are cleansed by His blood. But for those who live in sin, God will wipe them away along with sin. This encourages me so much because I know that when God removes sin completely from my life in heaven, I won’t ever have to worry about displeasing God again–only glorifying and worshiping Him for eternity!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful
Of the character traits and attributes of God I’m sure the two least popular are His jealousy and justice. Wrath on evildoers (that’s us), and jealousy for us who love sin? No wonder God’s love and kindness are the only attributes that make it on a Christian Hallmark card. But God owns these attributes, and has perfected them as we could only imagine.
For example, our justice system only shadows the justice system of God, and our loving jealousy for another person does not even compare to God’s jealousy for his people.
These traits we can’t push away because they are surely as important, and arguably just as comforting as God’s love or faithfulness. He lets no evil slide and pursues his people when they stray from him.
Praise the Lord for his justice and jealousy. God is good all the time!
2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
These two verses make me think of Judgment Day and how God will “by no means clear the guilty.” While He is slow to anger, His wrath is a powerful and scary thing. He will not have mercy on those who turn down his Word. Praise God that I’m not on the receiving side of His vengeance, but by the grace of God I have been saved. Verses like these encourage me to be continually thankful that Jesus Christ has saved me.:)

It is so important to remember these characteristics as well when were are thinking about God. Not only is he loving, but he is also jealous has incredibly mighty wrath! The fear of the Lord is crucial part of the Christian life and is something that should constitute who we are.. as Pastor Bobby has said, we need to be Theophobes. God calls us to fear him, and it a key way that we can really understand who he is and how awesome he is!

and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
This is one of those verse references I wish I’d had on the tip of my tongue when evangelizing on Saturday night. So many of the conversations we had were with people who were convinced they were pretty good and God would let them off the hook even if they had committed some sins. But this verse says the opposite: we’re condemned because God will not clear the guilty. He can’t just pass over wrong as if it didn’t happen. That’s why we’re completely reliant on Christ for forgiveness. We need his substitution for us on the cross so desperately; it’s our only hope. If we’re thinking that we will repent our way out of heaven, we’re wrong. God can’t clear you, you’re still guilty. But if you cling to the cross (which ultimately will lead you to repentance, to be sure), then you’ll have hope on judgement day, because God hasn’t overlooked your sin, He’s put it on Christ and punished it there. Jesus became guilty so you and I won’t have to. That’s the greatest news there is!
I read… (too late ugh)
Today was a great day to be able to fellowship with all of you! Lets keep the revival going and expand it as school starts in a month (ouch).
I liked Nahum verse 3a… “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.”
As we learned this week, God is not going to just let people off the hook and pardon them for their sins against Him. He will come with His wrath of fire and darkness and complete absence of Him. I pray that since you have heard this message, if you have not repented this would be the response and then after you would tell others about His great love and patience towards others.
Nahum 1
7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.
Draw near to Jesus Christ and serve Him with your whole heart. He is your refuge and strength. Don’t Stop Standing!
Galatians 4:8-9 8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?
Nahum 1: 15b
Keep your feasts, O Judah;
fulfill your vows…
God has given us 66 books so that we can read account after account, testifying to our God Who is the same to all individuals, generations, and lands. Our God Who is the only Constant in our lives. Let us BELIEVE these testaments–the Old AND the New, which go hand in hand, bearing witness to the same God Who seeks us out TODAY.
When we have faith-even as small as a mustard seed, He says-He begins to give us the SAME testimony. My testimony about God is the same as Abel’s, Moses’s, Abraham’s, David’s, Nathan’s, Rahab’s, Joseph’s, Paul’s, Timothy’s, and Jesus’s. Let our faith not waiver. Let us be faithful to our ever-faithful God. Let us continue living out our feasts to and for Him, and let us fulfill our vows to Him, to remain standing and clinging to our Savior Who gives us life.
Thank You, Lord, for Your Word, which bolsters our understanding of You. Thank You, Lord, for sending Yourself to us, so that we can spend all of eternity at Your side, giving You full glory. Thank You, Lord, for Your love. May we submit to You and declare You to all.
