Moses is a great leader and throughout Exodus and Numbers we see these qualities in him…

Obedient- to God
Self-less- willing to give up his soul for the Isrealites
angry- at the Egyptian… so he killed him
caring- for the Isrealites
patient- with the complaing
trust worthy

and sooo much more it’s just kinda late and my brain refuses to work

29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD.

I thought that these two verses were especially cool. Moses was up there for a whole 40 days talking to God and He was even able to see His presence. Even when he came down from the mountain, his face was radiant because He had been in the presence of God. It must have been really cool to be able to talk to God like that, and its important to note that in verse 8, when Moses sees God, he immediately bows down and worships. We may not have the visible presence of God in our lives like Moses had, but we do have His Spirit and we know that He is working among us. So lets follow Moses’ example by submitting to God by worshiping Him obeying His commands as we see Him work among us for our good and His glory.

I just love this whole chapter! I especially like these two passages because they describe the many sides of our heavenly father. He is “compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness”, and all these other attributes that make him the God we all love, but we also see a side of him that shows him as our defender “he does not leave the guilty unpunished”. This attribute is what caught my attention, it shows us that we really have nothing to worry about. He loves and protects us, and all he asks for in exchange is our trust and faith. We don’t have to fight or avenge ourselves because he will take care of it all. It really got me thinking about how much we complain when we have such an amazing, perfect God. I feel so extremely humbled by his majesty, and thankful that I can consider myself his daughter.

We may not think this at first, but God is a very jealous God. He loves us so much and blesses with so much stuff all because He loves us and wants to take care of us. He does not want the glory and the praise to go to someone or something else. He deserves all the glory and praise of everyone and we all should give it to Him.

Yahweh (The Lord) reveals his glorious attributes to Moses here on Mt Sinai. How awesome it is to know that our Father in Heaven is perfect in character. The Lord God also shows His attribute of justice that is faithful to punish those who sin against His character.

Meditate on Yahweh’s character: Compassionate, Gracious, Sow to Anger, Abounding in Love and Faithful. All the while remembering that God is justice and we will all be held accountable for all of our actions.

These verses should lead us facedown with worship.

I love this verse because Moses worships God not only for the things like God’s mercy and love but also that he punishes the guilty! We can’t worship God to make ourselves get the warm fuzzies about how nice God is we have to remember all of his characteristics….

Another thing that stood out to me is God promise to the Isrealites regrding the Promised Land. It is amazing to imagine that this actual land is still the subject of modern day war and political upheaval.

I LOVE these two verses. Reading this brought so much joy to my night! God is slow to anger. We should be very thankful for that! He has so much patience for us. Even though we continue to sin daily, he is still loving and faithful. He WANTS us to repent. Of course no sin goes unpunished. But God loves us and by disciplining us, he teaches us how to live a life set apart. He is a JUST God <3

I love this description of God. He talks about both His goodness, and his justice. These are both parts of God that are completely important, and neither can be ignored. I love the point that Pastor Mike makes that there is no real goodness without justice. God is holy and perfect!

God is just so great to us that we can’t even comprehend it! As it says in verse 6, he is so holy and forgiving; ‘he is abounding in love and faithfulness.’ He is just so awesome and, it’s like what the guys talked about at small groups tonight, how can we be just so lazy to not want to serve a God so great. Also, even though is so great to us, he also is just and punishes the wicked. This goes back to be lazy; this is another reason for wanting to do God’s commands because, if not, he will punish us. We should be out there in the harvest like workers just bringing in all the people! Matthew 9:37-38 :Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

The Lord commanded the Israelites to respond seriously and drastically against the items used for idolatry. He wanted everything utterly destroyed so that the Israelites would not be tempted to fall into the same practices of idolatry. As we have discussed previously in Exodus, the idols of this world take different forms today, but we still need to have the same drastic approach to riding them from our lives. The Lord is a jealous God and wants our complete devotion! Let’s take a look at our lives and see what we have turned into idols. What is something we need to utterly destroy and remove from our lives?

In order to worship God with humbleness like Moses, we first have to understand God’s characteristics. He is Compassionate, Gracious, Slow to anger, Abounding in love and faithfulness, Maintaining love to thousands, Forgiving wickedness…
With characteristics like these, why would we not want to praise him! Yet we go to school and praise and idolize friends and worldly things.
When we have a clear picture of who the Lord is, praising him becomes more genuine and meaningful.

We all need to realize the tremendous amount of God’s grace! Moses responded to God’s appearance with complete reverence, respect, and obedience. We need to do the same thing in our daily lives; we may not have the Lord appear to us from the heavens while we’re on top of a mountain, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t keep in mind how truly undeserving we are of God’s grace. Only through his love and forgiveness can we obtain salvation, and I think He gave us a TREMENDOUS gift by laying Himself down for our sins.

How awesome would it be to talk directly to God? I think we would have a lot less tolerance for sin if we fully understood the holiness of God firsthand. However, we have Moses’ account here of the holiness and awesomeness of God and we have the Holy Spirit to convict us and give us ways out of sin so we have no excuse to sin. We need to trust in God 100% because we fall into sin when we do not trust that God will fulfill us. It is so disgusting to me that we resort to sin because we do not trust God. If we cannot trust God (the God who made us and knows us and loves us more than anyone else), who can we trust??

This verse is just simple and straightforward. He is LORD! He is powerful and almighty! He deserves everything and ALL our praise! God is so holy and we are undeserving of so much, yet by God’s grace we are saved! The Lord is amazing in everything, and we need to know just how awesome he is! God is LORD!

I think it is so amazing that Moses got to speak directly with the Lord, and had not only a spiritual relationship with him, but a physical one (for the most part) as well. It is so amazing to read about the Lord’s faithfulness and love, and know that i am a part of that, and that i get to experience that each and every day of my life!

This shows how great and awesome God really is. After Moses has been with him for forty days he starts to reflect the holiness of the Lord. Moses not eating or drinking for forty days is a good example of how we can go with out things of this world. Moses could go without the necessities of life, so we should be able to give up simple things such as non-Christian music and other things that can take our minds off of God.

WOW how awesome is our God!!!! He describes Himself here in these verses and how wonderful to think on these attributes of God!!

Moses was a gret servant ofGod and he was rewarded for it. God reveild himself to Moses and described his atributes. And Moses was thankful to God andd Worshiped him. This is a relationship with God that we all should be trying to attcheive every day and in all that we do.

Surprisingly this is so applicable to High Schoolers today. With all of these distractions around us its vital to make sure that our eyes our focused and set on God and His will for us, and on that alone. He is the only thing on this Earth that sustains us and we need to make sure that we do not let ANYTHING creep in and distract us from his perfect plan!

I just wanted to share what my Bible says about it I thought it was cool…

“Moses’ face was radiant after he spent time with God. The people could clearly see God’s presence in Him. How often do you spend time alone with God? Although your face may not light up the room, time spent in prayer, reading the Bible, and meditating should have such an effect on your life that people will know you have been with God.”

So, the way we conduct ourselves, our words and actions, will show others who we are, let’s be like true followers of God!!!

How awesome is that, God’s greatness was just shinning through Moses. How it says “they were afraid to come near him” in this verse reminds me of how we can’t have fear of other people, but instead they should fear us because we are God’s chosen people. Great chapter!!!!

Verse 6 is my favorite because of how it descibes God. He is such a great exmple of those things and we need to try and be more like Him. I think the hardest one for me out of these characteristics is being slow to anger. I need to pray that God will help me in that area with my sister and my parents. Also being faithfull in everything I do and not putting my trust in man but in Him is hard for me. When tough times come I really need to be faithful and rely on God for the strength.

I think this was a great reminder to thank God that he is compassionate, and slow to anger because if it was me I don’t think I would be like our Great God. Praise God.

Wowww that was really an awesome amazing description of our Lord and Savior!!! It show’s God’s true character and humility, his forgiveness and mercy but also his need for justice. I like how it said that Moses bowed to the ground AT ONCE. he did that right away. he didn’t hesitate or put it off. he worshipped God at once. We should look at him as an example for putting God first and worshipping Him. :D

Wow this is pretty crazy/cool/intense. Both of these verses show the power of God. Moses didn’t eat or drink for 40 because he was with the Lord! And his face was glowing because he was with God. Imagine what Heaven’s going to be like when we are with God every day!

34 But whenever he entered the LORD’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded,

35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.

Wow, God gave Moses the privilege of being leader and he came so close to Moses that his glory literally reflected off Him. So that is what it looks like with absence of sin.

I really like this verse!!!! In this verse God tells us what we should be bringing to Him. In the verse it says that we should bring the best of the firstfruits. So in the verse it is telling the people that they need to bring the best of the best to God. And this applies to us today. We need to evaluate our lives and look at every aspect and see if we are truly bringing the best that we have to offer to God like it tells us in this verse that we should. We need to make sure that we are giving all that we have in bible reading, prayer, worship, evangelism, encouraging. This week lets make sure that we are giving God the best that we have to offer Him in every aspect of our lives!!!!!!!!!!!

This verse shows how god is so powerfull and so caring that God can make people survive forty days with no food and water. Thats so amazing because we should not only be afraid of gods wrath but to be carefull of his bringings because we all want to go down the right path down to jesus christ.Moses was a good follower of God and that is how we should be by following the ten commandmenns. i think that watever er do in life is for God.

This verse is really cool, God’s glory is such ana azming thing… just like yesterdays passage when he had to actually hide moses in a cliff because no one could see him and live. This verse just really stuck out to me because it really shows how great God’s presence is.

Yeah Luke, this verse struck me too. When men get close to God, they become transformed.

As 2 Corinthians 3:18 puts it “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Let us all make it our goal to seek God this week by throwing off the sin that is entangling us and fixing our gaze on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). Let us all draw close to him by studying the Word and through prayer so we can reflect God’s glory to those around us.

I just love thinking about this image!!! Because Moses was in God presence, his hair and face turned white and was glowing with radiance! God is so holy that His backside made Moses’ face radiant!!! I can imagine what the Israelites thought when they saw this…It probabally helped show just how HOLY God really is! I hope this image changed your veiw on God’s Holyness!

40 Days with the Lord must have been amazing. I know the feeling i got when i became a believer was amazing but to actually been there so close to God. I can see why Moses’s face was radiant.

Great Chapter. Wow! It amazes me how awesome and great God is! I pray that each of us will strive to be more like Christ everyday! What an amazing God we truly have! We are so blessed to be His children! Maranatha!

That is amazing that his face even shined because he talked with God. This reminds me of what Jesus is described as in Revelation. It says that his eyes were like fire. Great Chapter!

Moses’ face was radiant from just being in the presence of God. How much more radiant is the Lord himself? I still cant believe how lucky we are to talk to the Lord of everything on a daily basis. Its a great picture to have though, that God is radiant. It really puts us on a lower level.

We should be like this be radiant for God by read and telling people about God.

I never realized how long the Ten Commandments took to make! Just imagine 40 days without eating or drinking. But when you think about it, its amazing because he was in the presence of God that whole time!!! I also think its cool how through the bible God repeats things. Like this with the 40 days and 40 night. that is used throughout the bible!

This should be our response to GOD’s power. Total and complete submission. We need to remember that GOD is completely in control and we have no power over him. GOD is so awesome his very presense should make us so awed that we bow down in front of him!

I love verse 6 because it show how perfect God is. I want to strive to be more like what that verse described. God has shown his love, faithfulness, grace, and compassion in so many ways. What an amazing God!

throughout the entire OT we see that the Lord has to rebuke and punish the Israelites for their apostasy and their turning away from Him. God is a jealous God, because He wants all of our attention and He doesnt want us to love anything (especially idols and other gods) before and above Him. God’s jealousy though, is a righteous jealousy, not a sinful jealousy. God says that He is a jealous God many times, and we need to make sure we dont turn from Him or there will be consequences.

I loved how he described God as the Father who punishes us, the children! I’m sooo glad he punishes, because if he didn’t, i would most likely be stuck in a lot of habitual sins!! His punishments show us that he loves us and cares, and i know it may not feel good at the time, but it is always for God’s glory in the end!! Praise God for his BEAUTIFUL attributes!! :D

WHOA!!!!!! ok i’m pretty sure that i haven’t seen anyone stop in the middle of the street and just get on their knees and just worship and pray to God. We need to be like Moses and just pray and worship God in all we do :]

How Great is Our God!

I totally agree with Pastor Bobby and Vanessa!

Often when we are asked to praise God, I have noticed that most of us thank Him. There is a difference between thanksgiving and praise. Thanksgiving describes our attitude toward what God has done, while praise is given more for who God is. I love this verse because God Himself tells us who He is, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. These attributes of God never change; He is always the same yesterday, today and forever. Today going to make a point to praise God for who He is and then thank Him for what He has done.

The little phrase I want to focus on in this verse is in the middle. It says “Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished” and the reason why I am posting on this phrase is because it reminds me of the Gospel and really how great our God is! One might say “Why does this mean your God is so good? That he punishes the guilty?” and it of course as we all know is because of the gospel that we live in…

I do not think about the Gospel nearly enough, the Gospel is supposed to push us into God’s grace and also prepare us for God through sanctification. We need to be thinking about the Gospel in everything we do, reminding ourselves why we do it and who we are doing it for…

So maybe I can encourage others to remember. Remember the Gospel, the very words that we live by and know the father. Praise God for his attribute of Justness and Love combined equalling the punishment of Christ. What an awesome God we have!

This is a great reminder that as Christians we live in the world, but do not need to be of the world. The Israelites would have the temptation of following the sin and ways of the people that lived in the land they would move into. However God warns them to not build relationships with these people that will lead to following and sacrificing false gods. As Christians today we live in a world where millions are worshipping false gods or idolize sin in their society’s culture. We need to still be careful to not build relationships that will lead us away from God and allow others to have a bigger influence on us than we do on them.

How Awesome! Moses got to speak face to face with God!! Moses would talk to God and then tell the people what God had said and what they needed to do. Today we have all that in the Bible. We have everything that God has revealed to man in one book. We need to be diligent in the study of that book so that we know how we should live. Like Bobby said this Sunday, are we working hard or are we hardly working? We need to work hard to live by the commands God has given us.

I am just in awe of what happens in this chapter! God passes in front of Moses telling Him about who He is?! That is incredible, it’s no wonder that after getting to see a glimpse of who God is that Moses is literally glowing from encountering God’s glory. Worship is the fitting response!

Too often we think that worship is the fitting response for things we are obsessed with, we give our time and energy and our hearts to things like boyfriends/girlfriends or sports or ourselves and in a way we worship those things. The only person worthy and deserving worship is the Lord! Let’s be ready to respond right to Him, like Moses did, in how we live today!

These last few chapters really highlight how much God should be praised and glorified in our lives. He is so jealous about His own name and glory that he commands us not only to have him first in our lives but also by commanding the Israelites to dedicate their firstborn children to Him, along with sacrificing all their firstborn livestock to Him. The bottom line is God wants our best and our first, and we need to give it to Him because He is our God!!

I am going to piggy back off of what Pastor Bobby said; it is true that our Lord is compassionate and slow to anger and abouding in love and faithfulness, BUT He cannot because of His holiness let sin go unpunished! He is just. I am reminded of 2 Peter 3:9 that says, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” Let us remember God’s grace and spread that to others, being motivated by the fact that although He is slow to anger, He is just and WILL punish those who are not His for their sin in eternity!!

WOW!!!!! Well I definitley remember reading this a couple of years ago for the first time! When I read that verse a couple of years ago, it really blew my mind! How crazy is this though??? Just THINK about it, take a long thought about it! Moses being in the presence of God, just because of that his face becomes radiant. How many crazy things have we seen when people are the presence of God, people fall facedown as though dead, and now people’s faces become radiant. How exciting will that day be when I will be in the presence of God, it would be the best day of my life.

What an awesome verse, God is describing Himself, He knows Himself more than anyone who does. I would say this would have to be one of the greatest verses in the Bible! It’s so awesome how forgiving and gracious God is! But there is penalty for those disobey and who rebel against His name.

14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

God is describing so much of His attributes here, it’s awesome! God wants us to have no idols. He wants us to worship Him, that’s is why He brought the Israelites out of Egypt…even though the Israelites had their golden calf as an idol as we read the past two days.

17 “Do not make cast idols.

Both of these verses are very important. God demands that we only worship Him and only Him. We cannot have anything in front of Him. Today, there may not be too many pagans like in the time of the Isrealites, but there are just as many idols today. People put money, material things, relationships, and many more things in front of God. This is what God is warning us about. “Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.” People in the world today have many things in front of God. And the more tie we spend with them, the more and more we will be tempted to do the same. God will punish those who don’t put Him in His rightfull place! And when that punishment comes, it’s not going to be pretty.

In this verse God describes Himself as a Jealous God. He is not jealous OF us or our successes, He is jealous FOR us, which is an important distinction. God is inflexible in His expectation of loyalty and recognition. How are you doing with putting God first in your life? Do you say that He is first, but your actions do not back up your words? This verse makes it clear that God demands exclusive devotion to Himself. At small group last night we discussed the importance of doing good works as Christians. A great place to start is to make God your first priority by carving out time in your schedule every single day to read God’s Word, meditate on it, memorize it, and spend time communicating with Him in prayer. Make your spiritual disciplines a non-negotiable part of your day and not something that you squeeze in late at night if you are not too tired. God is the Creator of the Universe who gives us all things and we must treat Him with the respect and love that He deserves.

Wow! How awesome for Moses to have God introduce himself, to describe his characteristics to you!

When you listen to the worship songs that are written today or when you hear Christians talk about God, we really like to emphasize his “good” characteristics. The fact that he is loving and gracious and forgiving. And praise the Lord all of these things are true!

But notice what God says here at the end. He does not let sin go unpunished. He wants us to know that he is just and that he gets angry when people disobey him. This isn’t the “bad” part of God, this is who he is. In fact, these truths about his holiness only make his love and kindness more awesome!

30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him.

This is just a reminder of how holy, awesome, and powerful God is. We can’t even begin to imagine what it must have been like for Moses there on Mount Sinai, the glory of the Lord is truly amazing. To fast for 40 days and 40 nights is no small task – but in the presence of the Lord, I’m sure Moses felt more nourishment than we could ever feel from eating our drinking.

If God loves this people, the Israelites, then I better as well. He loves them inspite of their failures, that is, not because they are good, but because He is good. Sounds familiar, huh? Lord, thank You for your mercy and Your grace that we do not deserve. Move me to respond to that today to be obedient and share with others without pride in me or what I do. Only in You and for You!

This verse reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:33 – “Do not be Misled: Bad company corrupts good character.” If the Israelite men chose to take wives that worshipped foreign gods, they would fall into the same sin. There was no ‘getting close to the line’ and withstanding the temptation; they were warned to stay away from it, or they would fall. In the same way, we need to make sure that the people we choose to spend time with are not similarly dragging us down. Be it a relationship with a nonChristian or choosing to hang around kids who use poor language and openly engage in other sin, we need to realize that we do not come away unaffected. We need to be staying as far away as possible from such situations and making sure the company we associate with is building us up and helping us to become more like Christ!

Jesus also spent 40 days and 40 nights without bread and water; but, in the DESERT! im not saying that we should go a months without nourishment, but being seriously passionate in God’s word is doable, even though going without physical nourishment is optional. if we always just live life with physical stuff, how is it that we just go without SPIRITUAL noutrishment? it doesnt have to be every waking moment, but arent we encouraged to spread the Word and meditate in it, right?

Dont falter! Highschool is really hard, and 80% of highschooler Christians give up… so yeah, we can do it!
