The Priests’ Garments
28:1 “Then bring near to you Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the people of Israel, to serve me as priests—Aaron and Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 2 And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. 3 You shall speak to all the skillful, whom I have filled with a spirit of skill, that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him for my priesthood. 4 These are the garments that they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a coat of checker work, a turban, and a sash. They shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons to serve me as priests. 5 They shall receive gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen.
6 “And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and of fine twined linen, skillfully worked. 7 It shall have two shoulder pieces attached to its two edges, so that it may be joined together. 8 And the skillfully woven band on it shall be made like it and be of one piece with it, of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen. 9 You shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, 10 six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, in the order of their birth. 11 As a jeweler engraves signets, so shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree. 12 And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance. 13 You shall make settings of gold filigree, 14 and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings.
15 “You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work. In the style of the ephod you shall make it—of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen shall you make it. 16 It shall be square and doubled, a span its length and a span its breadth. 17 You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row; 18 and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; 19 and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be set in gold filigree. 21 There shall be twelve stones with their names according to the names of the sons of Israel. They shall be like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes. 22 You shall make for the breastpiece twisted chains like cords, of pure gold. 23 And you shall make for the breastpiece two rings of gold, and put the two rings on the two edges of the breastpiece. 24 And you shall put the two cords of gold in the two rings at the edges of the breastpiece. 25 The two ends of the two cords you shall attach to the two settings of filigree, and so attach it in front to the shoulder pieces of the ephod. 26 You shall make two rings of gold, and put them at the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inside edge next to the ephod. 27 And you shall make two rings of gold, and attach them in front to the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, at its seam above the skillfully woven band of the ephod. 28 And they shall bind the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, so that it may lie on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, so that the breastpiece shall not come loose from the ephod. 29 So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart, when he goes into the Holy Place, to bring them to regular remembrance before the Lord. 30 And in the breastpiece of judgment you shall put the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before the Lord. Thus Aaron shall bear the judgment of the people of Israel on his heart before the Lord regularly.
31 “You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue. 32 It shall have an opening for the head in the middle of it, with a woven binding around the opening, like the opening in a garment, so that it may not tear. 33 On its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, around its hem, with bells of gold between them, 34 a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, around the hem of the robe. 35 And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die.
36 “You shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ‘Holy to the Lord.’ 37 And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It shall be on the front of the turban. 38 It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall bear any guilt from the holy things that the people of Israel consecrate as their holy gifts. It shall regularly be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.
39 “You shall weave the coat in checker work of fine linen, and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a sash embroidered with needlework.
40 “For Aaron’s sons you shall make coats and sashes and caps. You shall make them for glory and beauty. 41 And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. 42 You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs; 43 and they shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to minister in the Holy Place, lest they bear guilt and die. This shall be a statute forever for him and for his offspring after him. (ESV)

Great to see so many of you at True North United last night!
This chapter is establishing the priesthood.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE IS TO QUOTE A VERSE AND EXPLAIN HOW JESUS CHRIST SERVES AS OUR HIGH PRIEST!
Hope to see you all at True North this weekend and stick around on Saturday night for Senior Search at the Spectrum!
29 “Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the LORD.
This verse reminded me of the many times that God commands the Israelites to remember the things He has done for them. How often do we take the time to remember the great blessings God has given us and the things He has done in our lives and the lives of others? We should be devoting time in our prayer to think about these things, and to thank Him for them. And we know He will be faithful to continue to work all things out for our good, so we should be confident that the past is only the beginning of what God has in store for us if we continue to follow Him!
Hey Pastor Bobby, great challenge!
Jesus is our perfect High Priest who never sins and always intercedes for the believers:
Heb 5:4-10 No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,
“You are my Son; today I have become your Father. “And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Thank You LORD for sending Jesus to be our perfect intermediary!
3 Tell all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest.
We have to remember that all of our gifts come from GOD and should be used to glorify GOD. GOD gave your you ability to play soccer, or swim, or get A+s without studying, so use that in a way that points back to his glory.
By the way TrueNorthUnited was absolutley sweet last night. Hope Ray finds his lucky charms.
1 Timothy 2:5 ” For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.”
The primary purpose of the Old Testament preist was to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. The preists were considered Israel’s holy representatives and would sacrifice on behalf of the people of Israel. This verse makes it clear that in the new covenant the Old Testament system of priesthood is defunct as Christ serves as the only “priest” needed between God and men. Jesus offered His perfect life as a gift to God for our sins and His sacrificial death paid the price of the debt of our sins. Christ is the only priest we need!
Hebrews 4:14-15 “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.”
I love this passage in Hebrews because it reminds us that Jesus is our high priest in heaven who has given us direct access to the Father; also that Jesus was fully God while He was fully human and therefore He was tempted just like we are and yet He didn’t sin! He fought temptation with the Word…let us take that as an example and do the same; when we are tempted fight it with the Word!
Hebrews 7:26-28
Such a high priest [Jesus] meets our need – one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself…
These verses make me so happy! We know that our efforts to pay for our sin can never do the job. That’s why the high priests had to continually make sacrifices. It was like they were just holding back the tide of God’s wrath, but Jesus completely satisfied it when he died on the cross. It is such a difference from Aaron, who would lead the people into idolatry when he told them to make that golden calf. Thank God that he has given us Jesus as our perfect high priest, and that he is always alive and interceding for us.
Hebrews 2:17-18 “For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
Christ is our sympathetic high priest. He was tempted just as we are tempted but he NEVER gave into those temptations. He is now the mediator between God and man. What a God we serve!!
Hebrews 7:27
“Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.”
In the OT animal sacrafices atoned for (covered over) sin. These had to be offered to God when people sinned to pay for their sins and settle accounts with God. Since people continued to sin, sacrafices had to keep on being made. However, Chirst offered himself as a human sacrafice “once for all” which has forever settled accounts between man and God. Those who trust in Christ don’t have to pay the price for their sin because Christ paid it for them. That is something to be forever grateful for!
Hebrews 3:1-2 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
Just as Moses had been sent by God to deliver, so has Jesus! They both cared for God’s people (obviously..) which makes Jesus like Moses in the sense that he was a high priest. :D
Alright, I found a good one:)
Vanessa, great comment!i totally echo everything you said!
Remember when Jesus was tempted by satan in Luke 4:1-30?
I love that passage because Jesus’ response to satan was great!
When we are being tempted, scripture should ‘pop’ into our heads!that is a great way to avoid sin! That is why it is SOO IMPORTANT to be reading and meditating on the bible every day! When satan was trying to tempt Jesus, Jesus stayed calm and totally quoted scripture in response to satan. He defeats satan with the TRUTH of scripture! Unfortunatley, the devil has domination over the earth- that is why we should be striving to read the bible and we should be straining to memorize scripture and do good for the glory of God!
Maranatha!!
Hebrews 12:2 “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
I was really inspired by Beth’s comment about how Jesus is our High Priest because He acted as the ultimate sacrifice and mediator between God and man. This verse further illustrates that point and shows how glorifying that sacrifice was to God.
Hebrews 3:1 “Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.”
The beginning of this chapter in Hebrews starts with describing Jesus as greater than Moses. Moses was sent by God to set his people (the Israelites) free and save them from the Egyptians. Jesus was sent in a very similar scenario; he was sent to save all of God’s people (us) and save us from, instead of the Egyptians, the Devil and sin. Also, (obviously) he did this by being crucified on the cross for our sin and safety and that makes him, Jesus Christ, our high priest!
Great chapter…. Once again very detailed and intricate!
Hebrews 5:7-10 “During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.”
This passage is straight forward telling us that God chose Jesus to be the high priest for anyone who obeys and follows him. I was confused on what it meant by Melchizedek when i first read this. But turns out that in Hebrew melek means king and tsedeq means righteousness. So “melchizedek” means literally, “King of Righteousness” or “The Righteous King.”
Hebrews 4:14: Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
This verse shows how Jesus Christ serves as our high priest.
my verse for today’s challenge:
Revelation 5:5
“And one of the elders said to me, ‘weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
As the Son of God, He died for our sins, and because he did that, he conquered death, and “became the source of salvation” as is said at Hebrews 5:10.
Yup, he died for us, but that doesnt give us free passes to do sin.
“Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God” hebrews 5:1
Jesus is human. As humans, we need a human priest to redeem us. Being human, we are able to relate to him- he went through trials, pain, and suffering just like everyone does. Also a high priest was chosen by God and they had to go through all these traditions and customs and be clean in order to meet with God. But Jesus was perfect without sin. All the other high priests sinned and that’s why Jesus came down and sacrificed himself for us even though we cannot even comprehend that kind of love and it’s sad when I see others reject and deny that gift of salvation. When we stand in and are judged by God (if we accept Jesus Christ as our lord and savior), He views us as blameless because His son took up all of our sin and represents us.
Romans 8:34 and Hebrews 7:25. Romans says that Jesus Christ is at the right hand of God (this verse also combats the heresy of modalism) and He is interceding for us, which means that He is “petitioning” for us. because of Christ’s constant intercession, we cannot be found guilty because our ultimate High Priest who speaks on behalf of us
Ephesians 1:19-23
“and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”
Christ is the ultimate authority. He is above all things, and God has placed EVERYTHING under him. It’s so important to truly understand what this means. We hear it all the time in church, but are we really living our lives in complete submission to him??
CST :)
Hebrews 7:25-28
24but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.
25Therefore he is able to save completely[a] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
26Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever
Jesus lives forever, His priesthood is permanent, how amazing is that! It is interesting to read about the Levitical priesthood in Exodus, while living under Christ’s priesthood. Jesus did what I could not do, He lived a perfect life. He was without sin and offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sin. Fully grasping what Jesus has done for us, should evoke an overwhelming sense of gratitude. The thought of what was accomplished on our behalf should make us love Him all the more and live to serve only Him.
Hebrews 3:1-4
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
Just like people have been saying in their comments, Jesus is above ALL things. These verses explain that he is greater than Moses who saved the israelites, which He is. He was the ultimate sacrifice so that all of us (Romans 3:23) could be saved! (Ephesians 2:4-5) Only through Jesus, the high priest, can we be saved!
God work through and ceep working through me in every way.
5 Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.
These are very specific instructions. Are there any special meanings for the colors and items?
25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
26 Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
—–Hebrews 7:25-28
Jesus Christ is our high priest! He takes away our sins, and is completely blameless and perfect. Jesus Christ is how we can know God, and receive forgiveness.
Hebrews 9: 14-15
14How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so that we may serve the living God!
15For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
Jesus Christ has become our high priest, HE is the NEW covenant. It is so amazing that He died for us, sinners who act in selfish and unrighteous ways and that He would release us from an eternity in hell if we are called to receive eternal life. I feel so undeserving, but also so thankful that Christ would go through all that just for someone like me. May we all listen to the end of verse 14 and serve the living God!
26 Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
You are totally right Kelly! It is awsome that we have such a perfect God. We should be so thankful for him and what he has done for us. He is all those things listed in verse 26 and we should praise him for that.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
This is a really straightforward example of how Jesus Christ is our High Preist, because he is the only way of salvation. THere is no other way anyone can be saved, not by their good works or by faith alone, but through Jesus Christ only.
Hebrews 7:26
Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
Praise God that Christ is our High priest who was sacrificed for our sin because after reading this chapter I’m sure glad we don’t have to perform all the ritual acts
The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe.
35 Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the LORD and when he comes out, so that he will not die.
Imagine being in God’s physical presence! Hebrews 10:31 says, “it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of he living God.” Some scholars say that the bells on the hem of the priest’s robe is so people (other priests) outside knew he was still alive as he performed his service before God. If God was displeased with the priest, He could strike him dead, and the bells would stop ringing. Just as Isaiah trembled before God in chapter 6, we should take very seriously any time we come before God in worship, study, etc… God is not the grandpa in a rocker, but a perfect being who takes our rebellion against Him so seriously that He’s willing to take the life of any who claim to serve him (like a high priest) but do it with a lack of sincerity or purity (Ananias & Saphira!). Fortunately, OUR high priest, Christ, IS perfect and continually exists in God’s presence. In fact, he has already died on behalf of the people he serves, whereas the OT priests would kill animals to substitute for the death of the people. Christ, our high priest has become both mediator & sacrifice, and, even after his death, he continues to perform His role with perfection.
36 “Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal:HOLY TO THE LORD.
26 Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
This verses remind me of how Holy God is. He is so perfect and can’t be around sinners like us, yet he loves us even though we sin everyday. This makes me want to be repentant and sin less. Our God is soo perfect!
40 Make tunics, sashes and headbands for Aaron’s sons, to give them dignity and honor.
I really don’t know why this comes to mind but… everyone used to wear their best clothes to church. They wanted to look nice to show respect for the Lord. Its a Biblical thing- God had Aaron and his son wear really nice/special clothes when performing their sanctuary duties. I know its kind of an old idea… but I think it would be good to put forth extra effort on Sundays to show respect to God.
Hebrews 2:17For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
How Christ served as a high priest is taking away our sins as it says in this verse. Since He did that we don’t need to make any sin offerings to God because Christ was the ultimate sacrifice! He was the sacrifice of the sacrifice! Praise be to Christ, for the love He showed us on the cross, to endure of all that pain so that His people like us can be saved! I just think of it, and everytime I think about it and it just really suprises me about how much love and mercy He showed! It’s so undescrible!
Hebrews 4:15
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.”
Jesus is our High Priest. He is the mediator between us and God, and because of him we can be at peace with God. It is comforting to know that we have a high priest that has conquered the sins and temptations that we are facing today. He knows what we are going through, therefore we should work all the more harder, through faith in Christ Jesus, to finish the race marked out for us as we see the Day approaching.
26 Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
Awesome comment shelby! i agree with everything you said! God is so pure and holy and blameless and like the verse says he is set apart from sinners, although he loves us so much and we sin everyday!
CST!
Great comments!!!
Hebrews 8:1 “The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven”
Jesus Christ is our Lord! This verse really reminds me how highly to think of Jesus. And to know He died for us even though He’s off the charts better than any person who’s ever lived.
Acts 4:24-25a
24When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David
This verse is when Peter and John go Back tho there people and tell them about how Jesus was being treated. They were appalled and cried up to God asking Him why He would let this happen. I think it is amusing how these people put all of their faith , trust, and hope, in Him and yet they still question His plan for what God has in store for them and for Jesus.
Oops I keep forgetting to put CST on my comments!! I will remember next time!!
4 These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests.
ok so in the NASB this verse says . . . holy garments for Aaron . . . as aposed to the NIV translation of sacred. I thought this was prety cool do to the fact that we have been talking about God’s holyness alot in worship. What really jumped out at me about this verse was how his garments were seperate…(sacred)…set apart as basicly special. It made me think about how God is holy and Christ is set apart as for lack of better terms “special”….This leads on to him being God and our high priest who makes us clean…
Hebrews 4:14: Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
This shows that God is the highest priest and people can not come close to Him. We need to worship Him nonstop.
I’m in agreement with Spencer’s comment and verse.
Our ulitmate role model should be Jesus Christ. He has had to go through what we go through on a daily basis. The Bible tells us that Jesus is going to sympathsize with us when we are tempted and he will always provide a way out of that temptation. He knows how it is to be tempted and knows exactly how to stand up against it, which is awesome! If you look at it a certain way, I’m almost glad that Jesus was tempted because not only is it an encouragement, but it shows that he really does know what he’s talking about (this is just one out of many different ways to prove it :P)! It’s so admireable!!
John 11:50-52
50You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”
51He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, 52and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.
Our Lord and Savior died for us!!! That is one major way that Jesus serves as our high priest! I am so thankful to be in his family, and living under his blessings!! Thank you Lord! (:
Hebrews 7:26-28
26. Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
What awesome attributes are listed here about Jesus! He lived a perfect life as an example for us. We should meditate on all these things and strive to be more like him! John MacArthur says in his study bible, Christ’s divine and holy character is yet another proof of the superiority of His priesthood. SO TRUE!
Just reminds me how much the people used to have to do to appear right before God. We are so lucky now that Jesus died to save us from our sins and all we have to do is accept him.
Hebrews 7:26-27: Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
Its cool how Jesus paid our sins once for all when He died on the cross. This chapter shows that God had specific instructions for His priests, and they had to perform constant rituals. But because of Christ, our sin has been truly paid for because He was a blameless and perfect sacrifice. So when we pray, we need to remember what Christ did for us, not just repeating things ritualistically, but praising God from the heart and thanking Him for what He has done.
I love this verse. Imagine, the Creator of the Universe, our High Preist, who is able to identify with our weakness adn understands tempatations.
29 “Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the LORD.
Great job Mike, bringing attention to this verse. Jesus bore the sins of us all. Our names were ‘written’ on his heart as he took on the sins of the world and received the punishment on the cross that we deserved.
A couple of years ago when I was in studying in Israel, a lot of people in our group were buying rings with Hebrew phrases on them. My roommate and I were trying to decide what to get on our ours when we came across this passage. We were impressed by what the high priest got inscribed on his foreheard: “Holy to the Lord!”
Not only does this passage make us think of our great High Priest (Christ), it also reminds us that WE are to be holy to the Lord. Just like the high priests clothing symbolized, we are to be set apart and consecrated to the service of God.
1 Timothy 2:5 ” For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.”
Today when we were driving somewhere, Tyler asked me, “Mommy can we drive to heaven?” And we told him that nobody can drive there in a car, you can only get to heaven through Jesus. His life paid the debt of our sins so that we can come to God, praise the Lord!
3 Tell all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest.
As Murph was saying it great to know that God gives us the skills to complete the good works he has for us to do. Sometime Christians think its to hard to follow God’s command. God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle. So if you are reading the Bible and come across a paticular command that is hard to follow. Do not be afraid, realize that God will give you the strength to obey him.
“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
Jesus Christ acts as our high priest because its throught his sacrifice and his blood only that we are allowed to approach God. Christ paid the ultimate price on our behalf, he interceded just like the high priest represented the nation of Israel once a year before God in the Holy of Holies. Except Jesus Christ’s sacrifice was a one and done event!!
1Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. 3This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
17For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for[f]the sins of the people. 18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
The only way that the atonement works here is by Jesus actually becoming like the ones that have the problem so that problem can be taken we should no longer be scared of death.
