The Covenant Confirmed
24:1 Then he said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. 2 Moses alone shall come near to the Lord, but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.”
3 Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the rules. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.” 4 And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord. 6 And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” 8 And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
9 Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11 And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank.
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” 13 So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. 14 And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”
15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. 18 Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. (ESV)

11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank
To be able to see God that is going to be amazing. Evangelism night was a good night. 8 True Norther’s were bold for Christ. Keep praying that the word of God would spread rapidly in the O.C.
12 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.”
that must have been amazing to be in tne presence of God!!!!! Maranatha!!!
Ex 24:3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
Good thing Jesus paid for all our sins – no matter what we ‘say’ without Him and the Holy Spirit we are unable to live for Him. Just like the Israelites, we are in need of Christ to make us clean. Maranatha!!!
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
Our response to the new covenant of God and to his commandments should be complete obedience. These people understood the Lord and feared him. That fear led to their obedience.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
I think we should still do this because no one really does it.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
The Israelites’ response to God’s commands was immediate and total willingness to obey. This is the same response that we need to have when we read God’s Word or receive instruction from the Bible by our pastors. Often we pick and choose the commands that we are willing to obey or make excuses about how some of God’s commands are too difficult for us. 1 John 5:3 says, “This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome.” Once we are born again we have the Holy Spirit to help us obey God and his commands. May we show love to God by responding to all of His commands with instant and uncompromising obedience!
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
mmmm this is another great picture of the glory of God as described in the Bible. this also shows that God’s glory is something we need to stand in reverence of, not just dismiss. today we fail to recognize how great and awesome our God is, because here He is desribed as a consuming fire. Deuteronomy 4:24 says that the Lord is a jealous God, and a consuming fire. this relates to not a sinful jealousy, but that God hates it when His people worship other gods
2 but Moses alone is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”
How was Moses allowed to approach God? Wouldnt he die in the presence of the Lord?
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
Well put Riley! Simple, and straight to the point. The fear of the Lord is what causes us to obey His commands, and like Beth Lauder said, we can’t do that unless we have the Holy Spirit in us. God helps us to obey. And to see the fire on the mountain must have been pretty intense! Personally, I’ve never seen a giant fire on a mountain, but what I’ve seen on the news from wild fires, it looks pretty scary. It consumes everything in it’s path and destroys it. It made me think about how God destroys sin in our lives, making us more like Him each day. He’s so powerful and great, and the Lord is what brings me down to my knees. God I’m in awe of you!
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
Way to many people take obeying God lightly. if we say we love God, but we cant even obey his commands, something is wrong! I have to echo what Beth said! So many of us pick and choose the commands we want to obey. Some people don’t like to evangelize because they are afraid, so they don’t! we need to obey each and every command God gave us.
CTS :)
2 but Moses alone is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
(v.2) What an honor this has been for Moses, God using him to bring the Israelites out of Egypt and now the only man out of the Israelites to approach the Lord and be in His presence.
(v.3) This is great to see the Israelites respond in this way, but will their actions show it and the answer is no, unfortunatley. I want to have this same response and I think all of us should want to have this same response, I know we sin, but God still calls us to be holy 1 Thessalonians 4:7 “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.”
16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
(v.17)Wow, the Glory of the Lord is so glorious and just so magnificent! I would love to see the Lord’s Glory, I’d probably be in fear of God so much, that’s a good thing cause that will cause us to sin less if we fear God like it talks about in Proverbs!
(v.18)This is a long time 40 days and nights, that’s over a month standardly today. The Israelites were waiting for Moses what God is saying to Moses, but I would get nervous and thinking what is happening for so long.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
What a great attitude the Israelites had! This is how we should look at God’s word as well. The bible was written for us as an example of how we should live our lives. These stories that we’re reading about in the bible were written so long ago, yet everything still applies to us! We are following the same God that Moses did. How awesome is that? Let’s strive to be better Christians and obey God’s commandments. Not just some- but all of them!
12 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.”
This would have been amazing to be there at the time the commandments were made. The instructions that we must follow!
~CTS!
10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself.
Amazing!!! I can’t even imagine this. That is just crazy! I can’t wait to see Him!
11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.
God could’ve killed these guys right then and there. But He didn’t. Even thought they were sinners, He let them eat with Him. Can you believe that?? They ate with God! This is just so amazing! I can’t even imagine what that would be like. God is so holy, they probably couldn’t look at Him. Yet He still lets them see His throne, and they see a floor of pure sapphire that looks like the sky. That is amazing. God is so amazing and i can’t wait to see Him for myself!
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
Wow, just imagine what it must have been like to see GOD’s Glory. It must have been positivley amazing. WOW WOW WOW.
4 Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said…
Isn’t it amazing how we still have these writings!?!?! God may have or may have not told him to write it down, but it’s awesome to still have all or most of what Moses had written!! Just another reason to put God’s word as an authority in our lives, as Ben Blakey said last night in his sermon!! Let his words dwell in us richly! :D
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
We need to have this same attitude about God’s commandments. We also need to see obeying them not as a chore but as a delight. We should delight in obeying our Lord. God gives us the strength and discernment to help us obey them. He makes it easy for us. He has very clearly stated his rules. He has given us to do’s and not to do’s. He hasn’t left it up to us to guess, he made it easy. All we have to do is follow them. And even when we don’t, we are given grace and forgiveness, and strength to help us next time.
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
whoa! now that is intense. Just looking up at the mountain were Moses is speaking to God and seeing something like fire consume the top of the mountain were Moses is would definitly persuade me to fear God. God’s glory is amazing and in that we should give praise. :]
***GIVE PRAISE TO HIM ALWAYS!!!***
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
We should be like the Israelites and respond with obedience to whatever the Lord commands of us. I also agree with what Cristina and Beth said. People (including me) really do pick and choose what commands they want to listen to and follow, but if we really and saved we need to listen and apply all of Gods commands.
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
The Israelites had their minds in the right place, but was their hearts really in it? Making a vow like this is something you can’t take lightly. The Israelites tried to fulfill this vow, but they continuously fell away from the LORD and had to get getting help to come back to Him. I’m not saying that we are all perfect and don’t fall away, but I am saying that during this time, I don’t think the Israelites were a good example of how to live your life. They lived the life God wanted when they felt like it. Then they would go and do evil in the eyes of the LORD and worship idols. Sounds like a hypocrit to me. That’s what we should get out of this verse. We should evaluate our lives and see how hypocritical we might be. That way you wil be able to put an end to it and live like God would really want you to.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
Great comment Beth, I totally agree. We sit in church week after week, get all pumped up after a great message, just to revert back into our old ways a few days later. We say we love God but we are not willing to give up our time to study or meditate on His word. Even when we know His word we can find ourselves being repeatedly disobedient. In chapter 32 the people will succumb to worshiping the golden calf; how quick they were to forget God’s greatness and His law. Let us learn from their example. I pray that we would take our relationship with God seriously 24/7, and willingly obey His commands… James 1:22-24
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
I think this is truly amazing. In Hebrews 12:28-29 it says: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” It is comforting to remember that our God is the powerful creator, working everything to his will.
12 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.”
Without Moses to go up and retreive the Ten Commandments where would we be. Yes the Bible tells us what to do and what not to do but the Isrealites didn’t have a Bible back then, but instead they had tablets and scrolls. The Commadments were used as them main laws for Isreal. Without them I’m pretty sure the Isrealites would have had quite a few 40 year trips into the dessert.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
Great comment Kelly! We need to respond to God’s word in complete obedience. We can’t just pick and choose what to obey. What God says goes. Not only are we to obey because we love to please the Lord, but also because we are afraid of the consequences if we don’t!
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
Amen!!!!
Very nicly put everybody that covered this verse… I like this verse becase we should be able to say and make an everyday necesity “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
Hmm, so my mind immediately goes to the upcoming chapters where the Israelites fail to obey the covenant that the Lord has outlined for them. However, here before we see them disobey, they are quick to promise complete obedience. I pray that we do not reflect the same broken promises. How many times do we hear a great sermon, be convicted of our sins, make some statement about how we are going to change, then fail to actual obey? As we’ve seen in previous chapters, God takes our disobedience seriously! Let’s all examine our own lives and see where we are living in disobedience and making false promises! I want to respond to God’s instructions in complete obedience, rather than empty words.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
I agree with those who commented on this verse! It really stood out! As Christians, it is our duty to obey The Lord and to do what we are told to do. If we are saying we are all for Jesus, and we would die for him, etc… then we need to prove that and have a willingness and a desire to obey our Savior!
6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar.
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
8 Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
this wierd and unusual covenant ceremony shows us that the Bible’s view on sin and forgiveness is a very serious situation. God is sovereign and just and will judge the whole world. since he is the Holy judge, he takes sin very serious and judges it to be worthy of death. So this is why they had the animal be their substitute in the OT because Jesus had not come yet. The blood of the slaughtered animal shows the death of the sins and the life that was spared as a result. The blood that was sprinkled on the people showed that their penalty of sin was paid and they can have a relationship with God again.
also on verse 7 i think we should all have the attitude to obey Christ, all the laws he has given to us. i also realize some of us think we have that attitude but i know we ALL need to work on this and i challenge us all to; obey our parents, not lie, and encourage others all week and see how much better it is to live that way. =)
3When Moses went and told the people all re LORD’s words and laws, they slresponded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
I love this response that the Israelites say, “Everything the Lord has said we will do.” I remember it from Exodus 19:8. That’s so good of the Israelites to say it 5 chapters ago and their still going strong, they wanna finish the race with God. Let’s respond to God’s word saying everything the Lord has said we will do too.
Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
This is the right way to respond to the Word of God, what God tells us to do. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Israelites really stayed true to what they said.
“…they saw God, and they ate and drank.”
Wow! Being with God! This is really an amazing verse. That would’ve been so awesome to be one of those men.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
Just like the Israelites, we too, need to respond to God’s Word with complete obedience. Great comments on this verse. I agree.
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
I am really impressed by how simple the response to God’s Word seems. However, we all know that obedience is not as easy as it sounds. We need to be in God’s Word so we can know what it is we need to obey, we need to pray for spiritual protection, and we need to surround ourselves with Christian friends so we can encourage and keep eachother accountable. Obedience is a daily struggle, but it is well worth the prize of glorifying God who provides the promise of a future in Heaven and a way out of sin! Praise God!
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
We should respond to what God says in the Bible with the same kind of obedience…… (Everything the LORD has said we will do). We need to be able to say this and honestly mean it. Alot of the time we say this, but are hearts are saying something entirely different. We are not supposed to pick and choose what we want to obey out of God’s Word. We need to follow everything He has said and commanded.
9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up
10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself.
How awesome is that. They were able to stand and be in the presence of God Himself. I like the description of the sapphire too. I wonder if that detail is significant or not.
7 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
I think that this also paints a great picture of God’s glory.
This is an amazing chapter. How cool would it have been for Moses to hear the actual voice of God and to write down his laws and commands for his people. Moses played a big part in the lives of the people. He patiently waited under a cloud for seven days and was up on the mountain for another forty days and forty nights. When Moses sprinkled the blood on the people it symbolized how their sins had been temporarily spared by the sacrifice of the animals. I am so glad that Jesus came down to earth and died to save our sins, or else every time we had sinned we would have had to make a sacrifice. We would have to kill a ton of animals on just one day!!
15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it,
16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
this is like when noah and his family, along with the animals, spent 40 days and nights in the ark because God sent forth the great flood. the world was destroyed by water, and after that all of noah’s descendants for God-fearing~for a while.
we should try not to be taken over by satan’s forces and “conquer” (evangelize) the world by prolcaiming the Good news and doing stuff for God. its hard, cus of the peer pressure, but stay strong!!! During summer and winter, we go on Revival, and we get excited, but we falter because of the stuff happening in the world overwhelms us. i dunno bout you guys, but its happened to me. run the race and fight the good fight, cuz in the end we will get our just reward.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
We NEED to respond to Gods word in the same way!! We need to follow our laws and rules that God has given us. God created the Bible for a reason, without the Bible we would have no way of knowing if our faith was legit. The Bible is Gods exact word! He created the Bible for our sake!! God gives us detailed instructions on how to turn away from our sinful nature and come follow his righteous ways. When we follow the instructions that God has given us, our faith grows and we grow closer to God spiritually. :)
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
i really like this passage because it really shows how much in awe the isrealites were with god
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
This is just a reminder that each day we need to say yes to God. But if we make promises to Him our hearts need to be in the right place. Humbly and with all sincerity in our daily lives we need to mean what we say and give honor to Him. If the isrealites had only kept their promise to God they wouldn’t have fallen (just thinking ahead). They had good intentions if only they had stood by them, just like us when we have good intentions we need to stick with it. Hopefully to make God proud of us.
12 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.”
This is a direct reference to the 10 commandments when they were written on the tablets. Does this mean that God wrote on them when Moses wasn’t there? If so, i did not know that. Maybe he did this because His power would’ve been too much for Moses
Wow…just like a few other people have said, it’ll will be so awesome to finally be in the presence of the Lord! MARANATHA!!!
Just want to say that i just got home from the Sunday night service and it was awesome!! Im so excited to see what God does with it and how he helps people grow through it (=
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
I love love love this response! flat out plain and clear: “We will obey” its so awesome that this is what they say and this should be what we say and like Ben said today, we need to take scripture to heart and by doing that, our response will be to obey.
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
God is so amazing. His glory sounds so cool i can’t what to see it maranatha. It must of been so spectacular for moses to spend forty days and nights with God.
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
How great of statement is that?! What if we were a nation that said that today? I pray that our church produces Christians that can confidently say that they will do EVERYTHING the Lord has said, they will obey. I would also pray that we would hold each other to that kind of holy living and that we would keep accountability “real” just as Pastor Bobby taught about even today!
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
Once again the isrealites demonstrate the kind of attitude that we should have. They heard the Lords commands and immediatley said we will do everything that the have heard and will obey them. Lets make sure that we have this attitude!! That we will give ourselves 100% to obedience of Gods commands!!!!
Great comment Spencer! Chelsea, in my MacArthur study Bible Moses and the elders where able to be in the presence of God because the blood was sprinkeled on the altar; this qualified them for the covenant meal with God.
10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself.
This is so incredible! Even the GROUND that our Savior was standing on turned into a precious stone. This should be a reminder to us at just how holy, majestic, and incredible our God, Jesus Christ (Col. 2:9), is!
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
This is the kind of obedience that God is looking for in us! We should be doing our best to obey everything the Lord has said.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
I always wonder how people can misinterpret the bible. God gave us simple commands and like the people here we just need to respond with a “YES GOD!”.
That’s pretty cool how Moses had to wait six days before approaching God, and then stayed there for forty. God must have been specially providing for him, because I doubt he brought up food for forty days. This is cool because it just shows how awesome God is and that Moses had to show Him the proper respect before approaching Him. When we approach God in prayer, we probably don’t give it as much thought as we should. But really we need to be coming to him with reverence and awe rather than take the privilege to talk to the God of the universe for granted.
God is narrowing down all of those rules we read previously to only ten! Well not now but later on when Moss actually gives them the commandments.
:]
4 Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said. He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.
wow I just realized that my name on here changes like everyday without me doing anything, it is prety dope…..
anyways I just thought that this verse was pretty cool because it talks about the 12 tribes. I find it amazing how God set everything up from Abraham till now it is awesome. We see how God has it all planed out and that is one thing that should give us confidence!
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
WOW!! How amazing would it be to see the glory of the Lord. i can not wait!! MARANATHA. We can not even fathom what the glory of the Lord will be like, and moses was able to be in his presence for 40 days and nights!!! that is amazing!
(:
When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
i really liked this verse, i liked how the people responded to moses telling them the gospel, we should be like this when we hear gods word we should respond to it like them and just wanting to fully obey it and says what the lord commands us to do!!
I am continually impressed as we read through Exodus of how great and awesome God is, and we see that vividly described here in this chapter.
And when we see God in this way, our response should be like the Israelites: “Everything the Lord has said we will do!” But that definitely has to be more than just words! We need to back that up, even by doing things like letting Christ’s word dwell in us richly!!!
Great to see all of you commenting! I am praying that we will take the sermon from True North on Colossians 3:16 to heart and get into God’s Word!
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
What a great visual of the glory of our God! As a consuming fire on the top of the mountain! The New Testament also talks about God like this and tells us how we should respond to him:
Hebrews 12:28-29 – Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
Let’s make sure we are worshiping the Lord with reverence and awe!
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
I had the same thoughts as Beth Lauder’s comment. We need to have this attitude that is always willing to fully obey the Lord in whatever He says. At the last Girl’s Workshop, Carlynn called this attitude “ATAPAT” being able to say yes to God and obey Him “anytime, anyplace, anything”. I’m definitely praying for this total willingness to obey Him in my life.
They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
As Christians, we always need this type of excitement for being obedient to the Lord. We need to be on fire for taking His commands and actually following through with them. As Ben said today in church, we need to take His commands to heart. I pray I will be more obedient for the Lord and bring glory to Him through following the commands He gave us in the Word.
Exodus 24
9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself.
Since no one can see God and live they probably saw God in the sense that they had a vision of Him in which they discerned who He is. The splendor of God looked like a sapphire
Ezek 1:26 Above the expanse over their heads was what looked like a throne of sapphire, and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. 27 I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.
I look forward to the day when I will see the full splendor and glory of the lord our God. How awesome an experience one that is not even perceivable. Only through the reading and meditation of Christ’s word can we even begin to see God as He reveals himself to us.
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
It would be so cool to be in the presence of the Lord and fall facedown in his Glory!! I cant wait for that day!!! Let it come soon!
17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
I just copied this verse and looking at the comments now noticed a lot of other people wrote about it as well. It’s a good reminder that God is to be feared and that he is unlike us. He is worthy of our worship and obedience.
3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
We need to always obey the lord for He sets the laws and we need to follow them. For we always need to have the attitude of being willing to do what He ask to us and obey with no doubts.
