Exodus 23

23:1 “You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit.

“If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall bring it back to him. If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying down under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it; you shall rescue it with him.

“You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his lawsuit. Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked. And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of those who are in the right.

“You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

Laws About the Sabbath and Festivals

10 “For six years you shall sow your land and gather in its yield, 11 but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the beasts of the field may eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard, and with your olive orchard.

12 “Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed.

13 “Pay attention to all that I have said to you, and make no mention of the names of other gods, nor let it be heard on your lips.

14 “Three times in the year you shall keep a feast to me. 15 You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. None shall appear before me empty-handed. 16 You shall keep the Feast of Harvest, of the firstfruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. You shall keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in from the field the fruit of your labor. 17 Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the Lord God.

18 “You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the fat of my feast remain until the morning.

19 “The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of the Lord your God.

“You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Conquest of Canaan Promised

20 “Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. 21 Pay careful attention to him and obey his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression, for my name is in him.

22 “But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

23 “When my angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, and I blot them out, 24 you shall not bow down to their gods nor serve them, nor do as they do, but you shall utterly overthrow them and break their pillars in pieces. 25 You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. 26 None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. 27 I will send my terror before you and will throw into confusion all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28 And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you. 29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land. 31 And I will set your border from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates, for I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 32 You shall make no covenant with them and their gods. 33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me; for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.” (ESV)

  1. Pastor Bobby says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

Let me put this in the way we would say it today: Peer Pressure. I know this can be difficult because the number of high schoolers living for JC in the OC is so small and the crowd is so big. But don’t go with the flow! Don’t follow the crowd when they are doing wrong. Know that God can make you strong to carry the name of Jesus Christ even if we are outnumbered and there are only a few Christians. Our God is mighty and he will lead us!

  2. Janiel V (C.S.T) says:

I agree with you pastor bobby. its so hard these days because the number of christians at the highschools are small compared to everyone else.

show your “uniqueness” by donning the armor of God, run that race!
wee’re not perfect, but we could at least do our best to carry on the name of Jesus Christ

  3. Kelly Sawyer says:

C.S.T. I love the acronym and the creative way the Leaders are trying to encourage the students to read their Bible and post a comment. The commitment of those who are reading and posting will be honored with a celebration and what a fun night it will be. That is only a taste of the celebration we will have one day up in heaven as we are rewarded for serving our Lord wholeheartedly. I am a parent and I endorse C.S.T.!!!!!

  4. Chelseaaaa says:

1 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.

This reminds me alot of rumors and lies. In high school we tend to think some sins such as gossiping or spreading rumors arent as bad as maybe the guy on the news who raped a teenage girl. We forget that all sins are considered equal in God’s eyes

  5. 2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.”

I gotta piggy back on what Bobby said…don’t follow the crowd! It is so easy to give in becasue of pressure or pleasure and we need to stand for what is right, what is true and for the Lord even when the going gets tough!

  6. Beth Lauder says:

24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

The LORD is going to bring the Israelites into a land that already has sinful inhabitants. He is telling them to be sure not to adopt the customs and behaviors of the sinful people, but to stay strong in their committment to obeying His commands. This reminds me of how Christians live in the world, but are called not to be of the world. It is a fine line living in the world and not being of it. We must be sure that we are set apart from the non-Christians around us. If we take our spiritual training seriously and spend time daily arming ourselves for battle we can live pure lives despite the wickedness that we are surrounded by.

  7. Jacob Decker says:

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.
5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.
6 “Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.

And so the laws continue… These laws are pretty cool because we can relate to them. For example, instead of coming across your enemy’s ox or donkey, but you come across your enemies Wallet or valuables, be sure to give it back to him. Also, instead of seeing someone who hates you and they have trouble with the load, it could always be someone who is in need of assistance of carrying bags or huge loads. These laws are very important and if you look closely, we can see that we relate to them in some way.

  8. Dan Lauder says:

19 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

God expects us to bring our best to him every day in worship. When the Israelites had a harvest, the first and best part was given to God, not the left overs. Let’s do the same and give God the best of our time, energy, money and other resources.

  9. 27 “I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run.

God made some awesome promises to the Israelites! Can you imagine having this kind of influence on your enemies where they just turn and run when they see you?! People were terrified of coming up against the living God and didn’t want to mess with God’s chosen people.

We as Christians have God’s power by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit! 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” Our enemies might not turn and run, but we are on the side of the living God and we should live like it!

  10. Jenae Naee (= says:

Wow God is going to do soooo much good for these people. Like he is providing land for them and if they follow his word their enemies will be destroyed. God is showing how truly awesome he is in this chapter.

1 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.

The first verse reminds me of gossiping. We shouldnt do and we know it. Dont spread rumors about people and we shouldnt be telling lies either about other people
Just like P. Bobby said, peer pressure is so easy to give into, for nonchristians. But as christians, we have a little bit more of an advantage because we have God on our side!!! We can rely on him and pray that we will not give in and know that giving into that stuff will not glorify God.

  11. Mike says:

This chapter outlines all the amazing blessings God has in store for the Israelites. And in return for this, He commands them not to worship false idols. Of course, that is one of the things that israel does over and over again, and eventually God removes His blessings from them and sends foreign armies in to destroy them and take them captive. But just as God had amazing plans for them, He also has great blessings in store for us as well. But when we stray away from Him and His perfect plan, we miss out on many of the things that He could have given us. We need to make sure that we are dedicated to living according to His will – and not just to receive blessing, but because He is God and we should delight in following Him!

  12. Brandy Crane says:

1 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.

false rumors were forbidden by God. Gossip, slander, and false witnessing. these things would bring chaos to the justice system. Gossip causes many problems, even though most of us don’t start it we don’t stop it either. we need to end the sirculation of gossip.

  13. Brandy Crane says:

i just did a short post on Genesis 3:21 if any of you want to read it.

  14. Sarah G.! says:

19 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Such a phenomenal verse to apply!! I know that i can be really weak sauce in my sacrifices and time spent with God, but we are supposed to bring him our best!! This verse motivates me to sacrifice more of my time for Him, and to work my hardest in everything i do for God’s glory! :D

  15. cristina brower says:

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.

5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.

This is a great way to show people that we are different from the world : By loving our enemies and even helping them when they are down. It is very hard to be loving and kind to someone who is mean to us, but in Luke 10:30-37 Jesus teaches us that we need to reach out to everyone, even our enemies. This is not a suggestion. It is a command.

24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

25 Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

Awesome chapter! God calls us to live lives that show our faith, and God is warning the Israelites that if they follow theirs neighbors actions, they will turn away from God. we need to constantly surround ourself with Godly people so that we wont turn from God.

  16. Riley Hancock says:

God help me to not be peer pressure by anything that i should not do. Help me to pray more every day.

  17. it's Daniel Yo! says:

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.

This applying to lost and found stuff. If you find someone else’s wallet, for example, ou shouldn’t take some stuff out of it, then give it back or just hold on to it altogether, we need to return it and represent Christ.

  18. Julia Bradley says:

27 “I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run.
28 I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.
29 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you.
30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.

Here is more evidence that God keeps His promises. Not only did He tell them they were going to inhabit the land, but it was perfectly planned. God, being all-knowing and all-powerful, has accounted for every “problem” the Israelites might face. How could they not have full confidence in the fact that His promise will be fulfilled? After reading these verses I couldn’t help but be amazed at the wisdom of the Lord – and this is just a glimpse of His infinite wisdom!

  19. Angela says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

You dont need to be cool and fit in. You will be cast aside by others because you are a Christian, but in the end you will still have God. So do not go with those who will bring you down! go with those who will bring you up and will help you in your walk with Christ. Its like when that one person is on the ground and you are standing but when you try to pull up they will always pull you down in the end. So do not with someone to fit in but go with the ones that will help you, and help guide you to Christ!

  20. Gabriel Voris says:

24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

Today, this is a problem. So many people have their own GOds or follow their own practices. They worship things of this world or worship idols. We as Christians need to not fall into these practices of worshipping false gods or following their practices. We need to set ourselves apart from them and we are going to have to battle against the worldy things.

  21. kYLE jOHNSON keeping the streak alive :) says:

    This chapter is so radical!

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

ohhh my, this verse is so awesome! Just for us high school students! Relates to me. When I was in middle school, I hung out with the wrong crowd. These people now are druggies, and have got kicked out of school. I was apart of the rebelious skater punks group. I am so thankful that I did not turn out like them, easily could have. This verse is saying that we shouldn’t sin to makes us look cool and be popular in this world.

13 “Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips.

This applies for everything that God says, not just these set of laws in these last two chapters here. We need to be on our guard, a soldier that is protected with the belt of righteousness, helmet of truth, and our sheild of faith because our sinful flesh wants us to sin.

25 Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

Great verse, just thinking on how God is faithful to those who are faithful to Him!Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.”

  22. Michelle:) says:

    WHAT A GREAT CHAPTER:)
theres a lot to write about:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

Major in our society today!Be sure to be EQUALLY yolked with believers in Christ, and make sure that you surround yourself with godly people who follow Christ’s example. That is one way we can be sure we will die a christian, if we follow the right crowd, from now through college and marriage and life experiences, then it makes situations a lot easier. My stepmom has four best friends that shes had for LITERALLY 45 years. She said what helped endure the distance throughout life, etc was God…They are all equally yolked and i have seen my stepmom gain and give wonderful, GODLY advice because she was blessed with CHRISTIAN friends. So that is a big one

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him

Wow, really think about this in terms of today. I remember one beach night last summer, the sermon was on forgiving others and a lot of people were convicted! How hypocritical is it if we try to live a life pleasing to Christ, yet we hold grudges or dont forgive easily….if we are living our lives to please Christ and to be more like Him, then we should forgive easily, just as He did, and just as God did, does now, and will continue doing….but dont use that as an excuse to sin

19 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Give everything up to the Lord. Do everything as unto the Lord. This makes me think of prayer and bible reading time…the typical situtation of prayer is in bed, half asleep…we give God our last minutes of the day..and half the time we cant even focus on praying for 2 minutes without falling asleep or getting an “a.d.d” moment….lame sauce.God deserves our time. we dont even deserve such a gracious God. at small groups, Meisha said something that stuck with me…if we really feared the Lord, like totally feared Him 100%, we would live a pure and blameless life, and we would spend soooo much time growing in His word so that we can benefit from the teachings so that we can obey Him.

This is such a beneficial chapter!

Maranatha; Lord, come in your perfect timing

  23. Christy Beymer says:

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.
5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.

Love our enemies. These verses help back that statement up. This is something that everyone struggles with on a regular basis. God tells us multiple times in the bible that we need to love our enemies. Just reading this passage helps me realize the improvements that i can be making in my life and helps motivate me to stay on that right track.

  24. Mechell C.S.T :) says:

24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

The world we live in is all about acceptance. As you can see God’s expectations do not even resemble the standards that most Americans live by. Rather than condoning the pagan lifestyles of others, we should be adamantly proclaiming God’s truth wherever we go!

This verse really made me think of Hollywood. It is almost like society worships and adores all those seen on the big screen. God is the last thing on the minds of Hollywood’s elite and yet we let them influence us in almost every aspect of life. They tell us what to wear, how to look, how to vote, what’s hot and what’s not… and the list goes on and on. My prayer is that we would make every effort to avoid the practices of those we waste our time watching! Let us turn our attention back to where it belongs, and worship the LORD our God alone!

  25. Laura Johnson says:

2″Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

So many teenagers live life just trying fit in, following the bad crowd, no matter what it takes. They are willing to give up anything to just fit in. But We can’t be following that crowd, we need to be doing whatever it takes to follow Jesus. we need to be following the crowd of Jesus’ faithful followers who are living lives for the Lord. If we go follow Jesus’ crowd we can grow so much stronger with the Lord.

  26. Ben Blakey says:

The big thing that stuck out to me all throughout the first nine verses is integrity. God wants his people to always do the right thing, no matter what and even if the crowd is trying to get us to go astray. He wants them to help other people, even if they’re poor or our enemies. I want to be that kind of person who will do the right thing at any time for any person because I want to please the Lord who is always watching!

  27. 23 My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.

I like this verse because it reminds me of guardian angels and stuff. God really does care for his people and sends an angel out to safely bring them into those lands.

33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

This kind of reminds me of when people get too close with other non believers and that causes temptation to sin and justify their actions. It doesn’t necessarily have to be gods but just idols that they place as priorities instead of the one, true God. We really have to be careful with the people we have relationships with because if they can tear down our relationship with God or they can build it up. It depends on what or who their god really is. They don’t share the most important thing in our life.

  28. kelly causky CST says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

It is so easy to just think like your friends think and act the way they do without giving it a second thought. To be committed to the Lord is to not give into the pressures and influences of this world, but instead to stand up for Jesus Christ.

  29. Ryan Damato says:

I love the first 9 verses of this chapter. These are the kinds of verses that make Christians stand out as being very odd or strange people in this culture. The great thing is, if we carry these commands out, not only do we stand out, we show others that our God is worth living for. If we can do what is right ALL the time, according to God’s rules, so many more people would be reached for the Kingdom. If we blend in to what the crowd thinks or if we sell out because of a bribe, what makes our life so different than that of the unsaved world? God demands so much but, he promises so much in return. If we focus on the finish line, we’ll all see that these 9 verses are not only easy to live by but, they are rewarding as well.

  30. Natasha B :) says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.

Stay true to yourself and be your own person. And by continuing to follow Christ and being obeident to him you will surely be on the right track. Being at true north i am so grateful to be surrounded by good christian friends that would encourage me and also i can be an encourager to someone else. Im so glad to be in this crowd. :)

  31. Spencer Camp says:

33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

In Exodus and beyond God makes it crystal clear to the Israelites that they are His holy (set apart) chosen people that shall not associate with the sinfulness of the other nations. Couldn’t the same apply to us? God has called us to be holy because he is holy, therefore wouldn’t we want to stay away from people dragging us into sin? God says “they will cause you to sin against me because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.” The gods of the non-christian people around us are many. Whether it be a sport, having fun, hanging out, or just pleasing themselves: these could all be gods. Let us not go along with the crowd in the worship of material or fleshly gods, but let us be set apart as God’s approved and righteous workmen, in the name of Christ Jesus, our LORD and Savior.

  32. Jacob Foreman says:

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.

5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.

What a great message of sharing the love of God with others: Helping your enemies! It might seem really hard to do something nice for someone you don’t have the greatest feelings towards, but God wants us to show how almighty He is by doing something kind in the name of the Lord. Just think of the surprise on an enemies face when you bring their things (in this case a donkey) back to them or help them with something (in this case with a donkey). Being kind to everyone, even our enemies, is something many of us need to work on!

  33. Katie Slusher says:

Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

God knew that the Israelites would get ensnared by the things of the world. They would turn from his law and the worship of Him to other gods and other religions. The worship of these pagan gods eventually led to their destruction and the exile of the nation of Israel. Although we do not live completely separate from unbelievers, getting too close to the way they live can be a snare to us as well. I Corinthians 15:33 tells us that “bad company corrupts good character.” As Christians our aim should not be to live as close to the worlds standards as possible, but to live lives that are set apart for God. Let us put aside the worldy desires and behaviors that can trap us and lead us away from holy living.

  34. Cameron says:

1 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness
2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

this verse really is like something that happened with Christ. each time His case was appealled, the judges and especially Pontius Pilate could not find anything wrong with Him, or anything to charge Him with. Pontius was weak, and did give into the Sanhedrin’s and Jewish leaders’ cries for Him to be crucified.

  35. 33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

I believe God is trying to say here that not only do we want to not sin, we shouldn’t be in the presence of sin. Just being around it will slowly lead you into sinning. So only should we not sin we should also just associate ourselves with other people who try not to sin.

  36. Shelby CST :) says:

1 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.

I really like these verses! Such a great reminder for me! Gossip is wrong and so easy to get caught up in. This is a great reminder for me to stick up for what I know is right and not just slide by with the crowd.

  37. Dan Blankenship says:

    Exodus 23

20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him. 22 If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.

Reading this section reminds me of Christ going before us to make a way for salvation and eternal life which God has prepared. Christ is our great instructor who leads us His sheep and we must follow and obey Him in all things. We have so much in common with Israel because we both are like wandering sheep lost in a land as foreigners in need of a Shepherd. Our Heavenly Father promises to guide, provide and protect those who are faithful and obedient to His laws. If we do all that the Lord instructs us than our enemies (the world) will be His enemies.

Who would go against the one who provides and protects?

  38. Jasmine Douglas says:

    2. Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong… This can be a tough one, especially in high school and college. We are called to be set apart and live a life pleasing to God, not man. When we fear man and not God- it’s easy to give in to what the world is doing so that they don’t judge us. But part of the christian life is standing up for what we believe in no matter what people think about us. Let’s all be leaders and stay confident in the Lord. He will bless us for being obedient.

  39. Kaitlyn says:

24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

People in our day and age don’t necessarily make idols or statues and bow down to them, but they do make things in this world their idols. Whether it be movies, tv, school. We need to stay strong and not fall into the pleasures of this world, instead glorify God in all that we do, keeping him #1 in our lives. Lets strive to live for Him 24/7 100% of the time in ALL areas of our lives!

  40. tyler M says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

We should be setting ourselves apart from the general population and not try to fit in with others but we should be following God. We shouldn’t want to be like them because they will just lead us to temptation/sin; but instead, we need to make ourselves holy, we should train ourselves to be Godly.

4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.

This is also a good verse because we should not be the vengeful type, but we should be forgiving and should forgive our enemy for whatever they did and help them out.

  41. Wesley Wong says:

God cannot tolerate sin. He gave his people all these rules to obey. Fortunately, God narrowed them down to 10 when he gave Moses the ten commandments. He later gave two rules and if you obeyed those, then you obey all of them when he says love your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. It also says in 1 John that if you love God you must obey his commands. You have to obey what God says for you to do, which means to stop sinning or try not to sin because all of us are not perfect.

  42. A boy named David says:

33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

This verse really reminded me of how we should not be so caught up in hanging with people that don’t know the Lord because it is easier to fall into sin that way. We need to evangelise and keep our close friends other Christians.

  43. Brad says:

13 “Be careful to do everything I have said to you.

Obedience requires we carefully examine what we do and make sure we know what God expects.

  44. Snowmann says:

wow. lots of rules…. its a shame the israelites didnt always obey God.

  45. Trembling from fear of God B says:

ya sorry for the late comment. I didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday. XD
But Jasmine and Slushy took the words right out of my mouth! :D

32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.
33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”

The first thing I thought when I read these verses is “bad company corrupts good character”. I thought about some personal relationships that I know of that were of God but have fallen away because one is a nonbeliever. God takes it seriously, and knows that when we hang out with the nonchristians as though they are our best friends we will be pulled down. Like Vanessa B. says, “It’s easier for them to pull you off the chair than it is for you to pull them up.” Our Christian brothers and sisters in Christ are the ones that keep us strong in the faith, so let us keep each other accountable everyday so that all of us may continue to grow. :D

  46. Rebekah Foreman KEEP DOING SOTD says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.”

Never follow the crowd for only follow God and on His path never follow the way of others for they can lead you atray.

  47. Mandi ;) says:

8 “Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.

Bribery is a temptation that a lot of people fall into. We are bribed by our friends to let them drive us around, we are bribed to ‘help’ them with their homework. We are bribed everyday to do things that aren’t right. AWe need to stand up to this sin and have the bravery to say no.

  48. Katie Baxter (: says:

2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

This is a cool verse because especially at school, everyone always wants to fit in with the crowd. But we should be different because we are christians and that should shhow others that we are set apart because of our faith. this verse is a great reminder of that.
