By Faith
11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. 11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, 18 of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” 19 He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back. 20 By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau. 21 By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones.
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.
29 By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. 31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.
32 And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. 36 Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— 38 of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
39 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. (ESV)

Heb 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Everyone has faith in something: what is your trust in? This chapter highlights, just barely scrathes the surface of, those who trust in the One True God. Not even being killed by having big rocks crushing your skull or being cut in two shook the faith of these heroes of the faith for Christ. And when you have repentance and trust in Christ the Psalmist says: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. (Ps 28:7). Having faith in Christ didn’t stop them from having their bodies killed or tortured but the shield of God brought them the real protection: eternal life and permanent joy.
Real Christians have peace with God and joy for ever and WILL have trouble in this world. But avoiding the wrath of God and being with Him in heaven is so worth the small cost we have to pay in this life! Consider the alternative… I’ve never heard someone who trusts in the false god of ‘Science’ or the god of themselves leap for joy and break out in songs of worship.
This says God is dead but Jesus died for us and rose again in three day. Now that is a mericale of God. We need to have full trust in God and repent our sins to Him.
24By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
The example of Moses is amazing! He grew up in Egypt’s royal household, as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Despite his affluent lifestyle he chose to give up the luxury and prestige he had known his whole life and be associated with the Israelite SLAVES! Can you believe that? He was a member of the royal household yet he willingly gave up his comfortable life to follow the LORD and lead His chosen people. Now that is faith! Moses chose to follow God and give his whole life over to Him instead of enjoying the temporary pleasures of a privileged life apart from God. Can we say that we have shown ambitious faith life Moses? Have we let go of the material luxuries of this world and maybe the prestige of being in the “popular” crowd so that we can live a holy life and follow Christ? Let’s search our hearts today to see if we have given up the pleasures of this world so that we can enjoy the eternal pleasures of being God’s child!
6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
This chapter once again makes it crystal clear how important faith is. Without it we can’t please God! As Christians, some things we can accept on reason (that is, they also make sense outside the Bible), such as the fact that there is right and wrong, etc. But other things, like the facts that God is Triune, and that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, are things that we must mainly accept because we have faith that the Bible is true.
Look at all the people listed in this chapter… They were real men and women of faith, and it would be wise, I think, on our part to follow their exemplary behavior!
25 “He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.”
How applicable this is to us high-schoolers today! We’ve got two options: either give in to the temptation of sin and enjoy pleasure for a short while, or resist sin and be mistreated for the sake of Jesus, looking forward to an eternal reward. The latter sounds like the better option. Let’s follow the example of Moses!
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
Abraham was willing to pack up what he had and move to a place he had never heard of and had no ideas about, just because God had told him to. His faith was so great that he did whatever was asked of him, and believed God even when the promise seemed impossible. Most of us, on the other hand, are not as open to God’s leadership in our lives. God has a plan for us that might be radically different from our dreams and goals, and we need to be willing to lay those at His feet and trust His will.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
After reading this chapter I am struck by how Biblical faith leads to action. Each example listed does something because of their faith. Being “sure” and “certain” about your relationship with God should transform the way you do things. It will lead you to do things that others don’t approve of or think are very smart. It will also lead you to do things you yourself might not necessarily want to do and things you would have never thought to do on your own.
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
CERTAIN of what we do not see. Certain. That is the amazing thing about Christianity. We have an overwhelming faith and confidence in things that this world calls “superstitious nonsense” (quote by Dr. Corbett…).
14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.
15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.
16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
Our extraordinary faith in something better than what we have now should awe people. They should be able to clearly see that we are more excited for heaven than anything else on this earth.
8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
This is incredible faith, Abraham trusted God and was willing to leave all he had behind to obey the Lord! That’s so hard to just do and give up, are you ready to give up your possessions and leave this place to obey God?
17By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,
Another example of faith, God told Abraham in Genesis 22:1-19 to sacrifice his only son, which they had really treasured because Sarah was barren and they couldn’t have a son, then God gave Abraham a son. Then God tells Abraham to go sacrifice your son for me. That’s really sad, luckly Abraham didn’t sacrifice his son because God was testing him and the angel told him not to. It proved that Isaac wasn’t an idol to Abraham because it didn’t stop him from obeying God and Abraham didn’t harden his heart and didn’t said I love my son, I won’t give him up God. Abraham is really good example of having faith in the Lord, let’s be like Abraham and be willing to do whatever it takes to do what God commands!
26.) He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
As Christians in this world, this is the mindset we need to be living with every day. It’s not what we can get out of this world today, but rather what we can do for Christ and live for what is to come in our eternal home with Christ. (Philippians 3:20)
I like Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”
(T) Hebrews 11 lists so many people who are great examples of faith. God rewarded all those people who had faith, these are great role-models for our lives.
(A) Faith is an essential factor for Christianity, without it, it is impossible to be a Chistian. Faith is what we need to do God’s will and to read the Word. We need faith to be a Christian. Without faith, we are completely useless.
(N) We cannot please God if we do not have our faith in God’s work. We need faith to do pretty much anything for the work of God. If we don’t fully have faith in God, we will hold back on some stuff because we can’t fully trust Him. God will have to pass on our job as a Christian to someone else because He could not use us, faith is essential!
2And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets,
33who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,
34quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.
What stood out to me in these verses was in verse 34 when it says that their “weakness was turned into strength.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God uses our weaknesses to glorify himself and to show himself all powerful. Look at the list of amazing things these people did through faith! They did not do this out of their own power but out of the power of God. I need to live my life the same way and not trust in my own strength but admit I am weak and let God show his strength through me.
WOW I like this chapter.
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
We need to look st our hearts to but our hope and faith in God, for we want to please our heavenly Father and not anyone else. We need to be seeking Him and believing in Him, for He is creator of all.
10For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Luke 6:47-49 talks about a man who LISTENS and obeys and hears what God says and his foundation is on a ROCK, for God is our rock and nothing can shake Him.
13All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.
We need to live on this earth as if we were aliens(which we are) our real home is in heaven with God. We need to also be living EVERYDAY believing in Jesus Christ and not fall away from the true one.
36Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison.
37They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—
38the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.
39These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.
40God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Christianity was illegal in many place and it still is in parts of the world and yet people are willing to die for what they believe in. And we live in a place were we are able to believe in Jesus Christ yet we have a tuff time showing it and getting His word out there. We need to be ON FIRE for Christ and showing others that there is no other way to heaven except through Jesus Christ.
For the girls who went to girl’s workshop awhile ago we talked about having an ATAPAT attitude. :]

ELLO… I read
I like verse 25,”He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.”
I like this verse because it tells how all CHRISTians should act. We should not find pleasure in sin at any time it won’t last and it will not satisfy. It will make GOD angry and even though it may seem pleasurable for a time it will always bring you down.

1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
39These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.
40God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Faith is what makes all things possible and with God, nothing is impossible. Faith creates words, words are put into action, and all of this is for our Savior Jesus Christ. There were and are so many incidents where faith made it happen. God granted me the serenity to accept all things i cannot change, the courage to change the things i can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
So this is probably my ffavorite chapter in the bible!! This is just a reassurance of faith and how big of a deal our Faith in Christ is!
25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
AHHHHH I LOVE THIS! This is one of the most encouraging verses for me to hear. Sin only last for so long before it ends and then you have to go through eternity in hell. Why not just be tortured, made fun of or left out while your hear on earth for wayyy short so that you can spend eternity in Heaven?? Well to me, that sounds perfectly logical, but to most nonchristians, they jsut want to live it up and party here on earth. Our job is to go tell them that is wrong and that is not going to bring them eternal happiness.
I am with you Kyle! The Revival does start right here on SOTD!
And Payton, the ATAPAT attitude is definitely where it is at!
It is encouraging to consider the examples of faith in this chapter and I remember when Pastor Mike preached through it in series called “Ambitious Faith” that was really inspiring!
Here’s my question: What are we trying do because of our ambitious faith in God? If they threw our names into the list what would they say we have done because we believed God could use us? My prayer is that when I die people will be able to say I did something for God, something that showed how awesome he is!
The Revival starts in our hearts, may it spread to the high schools of Orange County, may everyone know that Jesus reigns!
Here it is the famous “Hall of Faith”…heroes of the faith who we look to as examples of faithful servants of our God who had the kind of saving faith we must have and lived it out in big ways! And this list, as the writer of Hebrews says, is not comprehensive of all the great men and women of faith throughout Bible times and then of course up until today.
3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
I have to make a comment about this because I am in Kauai’ right now and seeing the evidence of this so greatly (in fact I just wrote a blog about this very thing); do you realize that God’s spoke all of creation into existence…there is nothing scientific about it, it can’t be explained because it was miraculous, because it was divine, because GOD DID IT! Look around at the trees, the ocean, the mountains, the sunrise and the stars and you can’t help but see the glory of God! Knowing his majestic power sure makes me want to live a life worthy of my calling and makes me desire so deeply to follow the example of men and women throughout history who were commended for their faith by God, that I may be only remembered as a women who had a Big God and a faith that was unshakable!
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
I love this verse so much. This might be my new favorite verse. Faith is not always what we can touch or see but we can believe its there. I think this is why people have so much trouble with Christianity. We believe in something we cant see or touch and a lot of people have a hard time with that.
7By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Wow! What a great passage!! It shows us that throughout the earth’s history, men and women were saved not by works, but by faith! This is commonly seen as just a New Testament idea; but here we see that it also applies to those in the Old Testament. Here we have the example of Noah. Noah dropped everything to follow a strange command- to build a huge ark because God was going to flood the earth. He was ridiculed by others because of this, but continued doing it anyways- purely by faith. As part b of this passage explains, it is this kind of drop-everything-and-follow-God faith that makes us an “heir of the righteousness that comes by faith”. We are given all of these examples so that we may learn from them and follow God with the same devotion.
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
This whole passage was focused on faith and how important it is. so many of the beginnings of these verses start with saying…”By Faith”.. faith is so important. We must have faith in God. If we pray for something that we are maybe stressed about or something that is worrying us, and we continue to let it bug us. We are no trusting in God. That faith needs to be strong and we give him all our faith because we are giving our lives to him
Wow! I really liked this chapter! FAITH is so important in the Christian life… It’s half of how we get saved – repentance and FAITH! And, all of these people throughout history who had unbreakable faith in what they could not see to the point where they were constantly risking their lives for future rewards with Christ are my heroes! But, that’s kind of like what true Christians should be doing everyday – having faith in something they can’t physicall see… giving up “their lives” (doing what pleases them for now), and living for God (believing that it will give them eternal rewards in heaven). I want to use my life as an example of such strong faith that nothing on this earth would stop me from doing what God calls me to…
29By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.
Because the people had faith in God they were able to pass through the Red Sea.
It is amayzing to see what can happen in our lives if we have complete faith in God.
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
If we do not have faith in God then we have nothing. We cannot claim to be Christians and follow God’s commands if our faith is not in Him. You most certainly cannot claim christianity as ur own if your life does not show you even believe in Him. People claim to be Christians all the time, yet don’t believe in either God or Christ, or both. That contradicts everything the bible says and you claim to be. If your a TRUE Christian, then you have faith in God, you KNOW that Christ came down in a human body and took the torment for our sins, and you believe that you will be in paradise for all eternity with our Lord and savior once we are done on this earth.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
2This is what the ancients were commended for.
3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Faith. The missing piece that constantly reappears in these verses. Faith is why we are considered holy in our LORD’s sight. It is also the only way to please him. No amount of works or memorized verses can save you. Only faith in our savior.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
This verse is awesome and straight to the point. We need to have faith to please God. If we are seeking him and being obedient and teachable, then we will be rewarded. It is important to check your heart and to see where you stand with your relationship with The Lord. He needs to be number one!
All these verses are talking about how all the famous people in the Bible had faith. There are a lot of examples in this chapter. These people did some amazing things all thanks to their faith! This chapter makes it very apparent that faith is very important as well as very powerful. If you don’t have faith in God that He’ll help you, why should He help you at all? You need to have faith in Him! He’s capable of everything, including things we’re not able to do on our own. That’s exactly why we need faith! Do you think that these people in the chapter were able to do all those things on their own? No way! Remember, with faith the size of a mustard seed you can move a mountain!
Woow what a awesome chapter! this is truly an amazing chapter that teaches us so much about faith and how we should act in faith every day!
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
I like how it says what faith is then goes off and explains incredible acts of faight! we should all act in such faith towards Christ all the time what a different world we would live in if Christians actually had faith in Christ like were supposed to. Faith is such an amazing thing! and God is so amazing!! awesome chapter!!
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see
40 God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect
Faith is not how we are saved. What, really? Yep, its not what saves us. Christ is the only one that can save us. Remember that we have to be born again to be saved. How is that? We are dead in our sins so Christ has to make us alive. A true believer’s new birth is known because of faith. God has to reveal Himself before faith can set in. Faith is hugely important though. Why? Without faith we are dead in our sin but with faith we are alive in Christ. You might be really confused right about now but just remember that we need faith to be saved. But it doesn’t save us because God has to choose us first. If faith saves us it would be by us doing something and we were dead in our sins. How can a dead man save himself? Now with faith comes a reward. Yep, you know it: eternity with God. Can’t wait.
8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
This verse right here shows us such a great example of faith in the Lord. I mean Abraham had nno idea where he was going yet he still kept faithful. We as Christians should also have faith like this. We need to constantly be questioning our faith to.
heyy :)

1Trusting God and knowing that he did die on the cross me and for my sins even thought I can’t see him but we know he’s there and knowing that everything he tells us is true.
6 that we cannot believe in God if we do not have faith in him or his word .faith is believing in what you cannot see and trusting in all that God says and does for us.
Im soo excited about True North !!!! :) see you All there <333
WOW! What a great chapter! It’s great to be back on here. I’m definitely going to start hitting SOTD up on a regular basis again!
FAITH = ACTION
That’s the entire point of this chapter! Let’s take at the look at all the action verbs: Offered sacrifices (v. 2), built an ark (v. 7), obeyed and went to Canaan (v. 8), made his home (v. 9), became a father (v. 11), offered his son (v. 17), blessed his sons (v. 20-21), spoke instructions (v. 22), regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as greater value (v. 26), left Egypt (v. 27), passed through the Red Sea (v. 29), marched around Jericho (v. 30).
What a list! That’s not even the whole thing (I just got tired)! Clearly, faith is not just a belief in God. It’s taking action based upon God being in control of our lives. That’s what LORD means. It means God is in control. A good interpretation is that LORD = boss. Is God our boss? For these people in Hebrews 11, He definitely was and they were considered righteous because of their faith!!!
40God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
God has the eternal eyes that tell each and every one of our lives. He has planned out our futures for us with these. Therefore we should honor him for not only this but knowing that if he didn’t have a plan for us and that we would not have come to exist. To have faith in him you not only have to worship him, but you have to always trust him. Even in those clutch situations in life when you think there is no hope left in the world, God is always there. Just don’t forget, you shouldn’t just trust him when in those situations, trust him always so those situations never happen. God has something planned for us called eternal life =D! The only way to reach that is to always have faith in him, and never let go of it even after the day you die.
Have Faith.
MMMM i’m goin’ to have to go off of what Matt said!! Faith isn’t just an expression of words, but it is doing something for the sake of it. This whole chapter showed how people take actions out of faith in God, even though the future is uncertain. Some suffered while others gained, but ultimately they were all blessed beyond measure in the end! It reminded me to act more out of my faith during this last year in high school and to trust in God’s plans for the future! :D
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Great verse for all those lukewarm Christians. You can’t please God without faith – earnestly seek him and be rewarded! Don’t just sit back and be content to let people live in sin without standing up for Christ!
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Just wanted to say, I LOVE that verse. It is a perfect definition!! It’s amazing. I must have read that verse before, but only now did it stand out to me.
17By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,
18even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”
19Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.
To me, that is an amazing about of trust. God said that Abraham would have tons and tons of descendants, but it would really only come out of his son, Isaac. Abraham knew that God would stay true to his promise. And he was greatly rewarded for that trust.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
this is showing what faith really is, it is not just beliefe, it is beliefe that you are taking action upon to show you belive it, it is not just knowing about something and thinking it is real
c u all soon
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
I’ve been asked soooo many times what faith was at school it’s not even funny and I gave them my explanation but you know what would be better than my explanation? The Bibles. I’m definitely going to memorizing this verse this week. :) We see that Jesus Christ IS the Lord and He DOES save people on a daily basis and we KNOW that our trust is in Him, who IS the son of God and the ONLY way into Heaven. I am certain that He has saved me from Hell and that He is the savior of the world, that right there is faith. And I can’t help but think of Abraham and His faith, going into lands He was called to go, leading a family, sacrificing His son. All soooo many INTENSE things to do and what did he do it for? He did it for God, he had faith that God would take care of him and that right there, is amazing. Reminds me of that verse where it talks about having faith the size of a mustard seed. I want faith like this man. So incredible! A faith that moves mountains…That would be awesome if I could do that! My faith in God is what makes me proud to be a forever alien on this Earth. :)
Hey everyone! I liked this whole chapter.
These people were incredible. They were such strong Christians and God used them in so many ways to bring glory to himself. They were obedient and had faith in God. They could not see him and yet they new what they believed was true. Because they were so obedient to the LORD, he was very good to them and they will be rewarded. I want to be like these strong Christians and stand up for my faith and obey the LORD, no matter what the cost.
See you all tomorrow! :)
29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.
33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,
34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.
What incredible verses! This entire chapter gave incredible examples of what can be achieved through God. Faith in God is key as a Christian. God separated the Red Sea for the people fleeing slavery with Moses whereas the Egyptian army, who had no faith in God, was drowned and killed. Anything is possible with God on your side. People are healed from terminal cancer, brought back to life… The miracles that God performs in our lives our endless. God is more powerful than anything we can imagine and can do anything in our lives. He has saved the worst of the worst people. He has saved murders and prostitutes. God is GREAT and deserves all of the GLORY! GLORY BE TO GOD!!!!!!!!!!
REVIVAL COUNTDOWN: 7 DAYS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!! I’m sooooooooo excited!!!!!!!
I’m back. Revival is coming soon. Even though I’m not coming, I’m still gonna pray for ya. Lives are gonna be changed and rewritten by God HIMSELF!!! All the old things in us are going to be erased, to be replaced with the teaching of the WORD OF GOD. Anyway, see ya next time…
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
I don’t think that many people realize the sacrifices that Moses made for God and for the Isrealites, I know that I certainly didn’t and have not shown and appreciation or admiration. He really was an incredible man and is a really good example of strong Christian character and leadership. I personally am going to remember him and use him as a role model for Christian leadership
I really liked this chapter because the first part focused on telling the readers some stories about those who had a great amount of faith, which gives me hope. And then the second part of the chapter was talking about those who did not live for the things in this life and were tortured for their beliefs. I dont know about you but after reading this I feel conviction that I have a hard time sharing God with my friends. It made me want to.
5By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.
I liked this verse for the one reason that I know that jesus is coming back some day. Sure, I might not be alive and might not experience the rapture. But I can stil have Kingdom Eyes so that I focus on things eternal and not worldly.
The verse that spoke out to me was verse 32And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets,
If you read this verse very carefully that samson we would think why would he be in the hall of faith. But we judge men by mens eyes yet god jugdes men by his owns eyes. I read this book today it was about this little boy who was flying this kite at the park high in the clouds. This old man comes and ask what are you doing to the little boy and he says flying a kite. The Old man ask How do you know it is still there. The little boy says I feel the Kite tugging. I need to be like that little boy flying the kite by having faith in christ that he is still there.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
I like this verse a lot. God is telling us what true faith, which is necessary to get to heaven, really is. Being sure of what we hope for, which is a forgiving God and a sacrificial Son. And certain of what we do not see, which is also God, Jesus, heaven, angels, etc. Sometimes I find myself questioning myself about God, while knowing in my heart that He is real and there. I need to have absolute faith, being sure of what I hope for and certain of what I don’t see.
Wow, this is an incredible chapter! Reading it through just left me with the reminder that God is entirely trustworthy. Each of these people had faith in God that was not misplaced because he has the Master plan. This is an area in my own life that definitely need to work on–living out faith in our trustworthy God, that he has a plan that I don’t need to question, doubt or complain about, but be 100% on board with by obeying him all the time with joy!
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
today it is the common thing to take an agnostic view to everything. but as Christians we have faith in many things, that God exists and that He sent His Son to pay the penalty for our sin. and we believe this because of God’s grace ALONE. (see Ephesians 2:8). while there are many evidences for God and Christianity, our strongest evidence is the change in our lives, and the Spirit working in us. we can be confident that Christianity is true by external evidence, but in reality the strongest is what God tells us through His Word and His Spirit
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
I love this verse. It shows me that I must have faith and earnestly seek him each day. So this week I will seek him.
25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
We are responsible for our actions here on earth, and being disobedient would be sinning against God. The world will throw so many temptations our way, but it’s up to us how we handle the situation. Is temporary pleasures here on earth more important than spending eternity with our heavenly Father? I think not. Let’s get our act together and make sure we’re not only talking the talk, but that we are walking the walk. Our time here is so limited, wouldn’t you want to spend ALL of it living for the Lord, doing things that bring him glory? I sure do! This summer is going to be amazing! I know it! Let’s live completely sold out for Jesus!
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
i like this verse because it makes me realize really what faith is. i need to have faith in the Lord even though i cannot see him and i need to be sure of what i hope for which is Jesus Christ. i need to have faith in our Savior.
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Many people will say that you can live a “good” life or be a “good person” even if you do not believe that you can only achieve salvation through Jesus Christ. They believe that by their actions they are justified, but in this verse it is clearly stated that God is not pleased whatsoever if there is not an initial faith in Him. In high school we commonly hear about how kids think they can be good without having God in their lives, and this is one of the fundamental misconceptions we must seek to change.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
i love this cause it is the perfect definition of faith. not only Christians have faith, it takes just as much (if not more) faith to believe in things like evelution and rencarnation. but as Christians we have faith in God and Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and everything that Jesus did. and we have proof of these things in the Bible.
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
you cant have repentence without faith in the same way you cant have faith without repentence. we must have both to be with Christ in heavan. when we come to Him we must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him earnestly. we must all check ourselves constantly to see if we are seeking Him earnestly. i need to check myself more often to make sure that i am seeking Him earnestly.
13All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.
“… they were aliens and strangers on earth.” i need to see myself more as an alien on this temporary earth. i cant waste my time by trying desparatly to make my life “better” on this earth because the reality is this earth is going down. i need to think of myself as an alien and on a strange planet.
37They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—
this is amazing how much people suffered for faith. one of the guys we were talking to during evangelising thought that Christianity and the Bible was all made up by “crazy people”. this is proof that this is not the case because no one would ever die for a faith so brutaly if they were crazy or if they were following a crazy person.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like verse 8 how Abraham not even knowing where God would be sending him and what would happen, trusts God and gives it all to Him!!! It is so encouraging of someone having that type of faith!!!
7 days till we ride all night to Revival 09′!!!!!!
MARANATHA!!!! :)
I read…
This chapter is the chapter where the writer of Hebrews explains to the target audience that we need to have strong faith to follow God. He explains that we need to have faith in God because when the hard times hit, we can hold on to it because we can know that there is an eternal destination for us. I pray that in this life, we would not be concerned with what others say about us or think of us because if we are in Christ, we have eternal life waiting for us.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
I really like this defiition. Many parts of the Bible require “faith” and this is a really useful verse to use during evangelism. When the Bible ssays you are saved by faith, then i’m pretty sure that also means that you are following everrthing it says as true and that’s why you choose to serve God. This is cool!
7By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Noah is commended in this chapter for obeying God’s instructions even when he did not understand the rationale. Moses built the ark without ever seeing rain…talk about extreme faith! Knowing that God had told Him to build the ark was enough information for immediate obedience. I pray that I would have faith like Noah in which I would obey God’s commands immediately without questioning his rationale or authority!
Faith is definitely an overarching theme in this chapter. The word faith is mention 28 times, while it could have been used many more times.
I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets
God used the faith of these men and women to do powerful work for Him. We must try to exercise the same faith in our lives today.
V.8
We need to trust in God completely even if we’re skeptical about it. God has a plan for us and we need to follow Him to where He leads us.
25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
26He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
These verses are a challenge to me, revealing how short-sighted I can be about sin. The pleasures of sin are fleeting and I need a broader perspective to looks ahead to the reward. Even suffering now is better than giving in to sin.
This chapter give many examples of people that had faith in god and did as he commanded of them. Even though it was not pleasant for them faith in god carried through.
Faith is hard thing to understand but we need to have a strong faith in god and his plan.
This chapter really shows the importance of faith. It is the backbone of Christianity in a sence…without faith it is imposible to be a Christian and do anything that is pleasing to God. I love how this chapter shows that faith isn’t just an inner thing but it makes us do things… we do things for God by faith.
What an awesome chapter full of great examples of people who lived by faith. They were completely trusting and relying on God for their lives and they lived for Him through their actions and their lives. We need to follow these examples and not just listen to the word or just read of these examples, but we need to be doers and put this into practice. Abraham fully trusted in God even though He told him to sacrifice his only son and he went to do that without even questioning God. He was willing to give up whatever God asked him too.
Wow, people went through a lot back then. if we are finding it hard to do something for God because we might embarass ourselves, we need to remember these people to make us realize how fortunate we are. this should make us realize how easy we have it and motivate us to do better. we need to take advantage of the opportunities that we get.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Well this seems pretty obvious! It would be difficult to go and please God if you didn’t have faith in his existence. That in it self is an act of disrespect and irreverence, but I believe what the author of Hebrews meant by faith was something more than just mere belief, but, as verse 1 says a concrete knowledge of something logical and quite truly present.
As all these great biblical examples testify I, me, myself, need this faith, for it is the key ingredient to fight all unrighteousness and all sin that leads to death. Is God not a holy, loving, and powerful God. Of course! His word testifies that as the truth. God does exist and he is the source of al success and goodness, and if I am not trusting him my attempts are futile! I desire to rely in the God who created the universe. I want to trust the benevolent and holy God. He has saved me from all death and sin and I praise his good name and trust him for all success against the dominion of darkness and against the lusts of the world.
As for me I will follow after the Lord all the days of my life in faith. A confident trust in the goodness of our God.
Lord, change me to fully trust you in all situations so that I will be blessed and know the goodness of you. Amen!
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
I LOVE this verse. Faith defined! Right now, we don’t get to see God. We don’t get to physically hear his voice or see his face. People think, because they can’t see or hear him that he isn’t really there. But that’s where faith comes in. The Bible commands us to be sure of what Christ has promised us. It reminds me of that passage we heard last weekend in church- that if someone doesn’t believe what’s written in the Bible, they wouldn’t believe someone even coming back from the dead. That’s the strength of the faith God gives us!
Wow this whole chapter about faith is awesome! I especially think that verse 1 is totally legiT!!! Our faith is so important to please our God!!!
Uh oh…I kinda ruined my “summer’s resolution” from beach night already :( No excuses.
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Like a lot of people on sotd(which is awesome, we have a lot of posts today :D) I really liked verse 1. The biblical response, to the gospel, that saves you is: repentance and faith. Some people, actually, most people don’t know what those mean! They might think they do but they really don’t know the read deal. This verse is, obviously, from the Bible, which means it is 100% true and real. Faith is such a huge part of our lives, in fact it is most of it! We want to be faithful disciples to the God that died for us.
This is such an amazing chapter!!! It gives us all these amazing examples of faith and what we have in store for us if we choose to obey or ignore it. I found this truly helpful because I found some flaws in my faith and am now able to fix them. I thank God for His word that I might learn. Praise to the Almighty!!
1. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
FAITH FAITH FAITH FAITH FAITH!!!
Faith is being sure of God and it’s not a belief it is a relationship with Christ. Even though we haven’t seen Christ we need to have Faith that He does exist and is coming back.
