Hebrews 8

Hebrews 8

Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant

8:1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.” But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

For he finds fault with them when he says:

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”

13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. (ESV)

Well since I’m up early (late?) I thought I’d comment!

6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

13By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

The point of this entire passage is that Jesus’ ministry and new covenant are more superior than that of the Mosaic Covenant. At this point in time, the Mosaic Covenant was obviously very important to all Jewish people. It would be radical to suggest that it was actually 1) imperfect and obsolete, and 2) That a poor carpenter from Nazareth was actually the messiah and was fulfilling the old and establishing a new and better covenant. As Hebrews 3:3 says: “Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself” (NIV).

  2. josh senger says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
this is such a cool promise that we r given! we will be forgive our wickedness and God will forget our sins. we r such a sinnful people and we deserve nothing more than to be thrown into the pit of hell, but we r given the chance to repent and trust in Him and be forgiven our sins. this is far better than any promise we wil be given on earth, no matter how awesome that earthly promise may seem.

  3. Just a guy says:

What a great passage. To re-enforce that the old covenant is gone and the new is in place. God found fault in the people (i.e., they were going through the motions or looking at worldly personal gain) with the old covenant. God has given us new life through the new covenant through his son Jesus Christ. The old covenant has been replaced and is gone. No longer are we sacrificing animals (in today’s society wouldn’t that be weird) but sacrifice ourselves to our Lord and savior through our words actions and deeds. It is a gift from our merciful God.

“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

What can I do for you today Lord? What opportunities will you bring to talk to and about you?

  4. Old man new heart, thankful for a holy God says:

Heb 8:11-12 No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Great question “Just a guy”! Since the Lord has already taken care of the sacrifice for every sin and all of us – the answer is ‘we can’t do anything for the Lord today’ because He has already done the work required! But we can be obedient and do what He says in His word and seek Him first. Lord, guide me to seek You first and to do what You say – proclaim the gospel and love others!

  5. Pastor Bobby says:

This chapter is about the New Covenant and how it is better than the Old! Basically, what we have in Christ is better than what the Israelites had with the law.

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Here in the book of Hebrews it is being written like this New Covenant is a present reality. God now writes his law within our hearts. This enables a much more “personal” relationship with him. It goes back to what we were talking about this weekend that those of us who have been saved have his Word within us (this means we will be “quick to listen” like we talked about in James 1:19 – http://www.compasschurch.org/hs/sermons/).

Here in Hebrews 8 this New Covenant is a present reality…but here is a challenge for you: Who can tell me where the New Covenant is prophesied in the Old Testament?

Looking forward to Beach Night! Hope to see all of you at Salt Creek tonight! Bring your Bibles!

  6. Beth Lauder says:

8But God found fault with the people and said: “The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

Verses 8-12 stood out to me. They are a quotation from Jeremiah 31:31-34 which contain prophecy concerning the New Covenant. I am in awe of this passage because it is a perfect description of the New Covenant written about 600 years before the birth of Christ! The Bible is such a rich document because of predicted prophecy. No other ancient book is more reliable! We know the Bible is true because it is full of prophecies in the Old Testament that have been completely fulfilled! Did you know that the exact place, time and circumstances of Jesus’ birth are all predicted in the Old Testament? We can put our complete trust in the Bible because it is 100% accurate and the true Word of God!

  7. Dan Lauder says:

5They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”

If you remember reading the end of Exodus you know God was very precise when it came to building the tabernacle. It makes sense because according to this verse it in some way represented what was is heaven. What strikes me is how into details God is. If you look throughout the created world from the largest galaxy to the tiniest atom, they all have tremendous order and detail. If you look throughout the Bible it is filled with detailed commands on how we should live for God. If God pays attention to details, so should I.

  8. Riley Hancock says:

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

we are Gods people we are called to do good works for God.

  9. Ian H. says:

12 ” ‘For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.’ ”

You said it Josh! What an amazing promise this is, from God to us! The total and complete forgiveness of our sins. God just forgets them all because of what Jesus has done. Isn’t that simply amazing? It is very relieving joy-giving to know. Like pastor Mike preached this past weekend, we need to really be thankful for this and celebrate it.

“Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.”
    ~Psalm 32:1-2

  10. Katie Slusher says:

6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

This verse reiterates some of chapter 7 as it discusses that Jesus Christ was a better mediator that the priests and prophets of the Old Covenant. The job of a mediator was to bring to parties together and resolve conflicts that exist between the parties. In the Old Testament, the prophets acted as mediators and brought God’s Word to the Israelites and offered sacrifices for their sins, however the ability of the man-prophets were limited because they could not bring true reconciliation to mankind. Christ, the true Mediator, is superior to the Old Testament prophets, because he can truly resolve the conflict between God and man once and for all! He lived a sinless life, took our sins the cross, where he bore God’s wrath (2 Corinthians 5:21). He is the true Mediator who has made God accessible to us through the forgiveness of sins! Praise the Lord for Jesus Christ, our Mediator!

  11. Nicholas Bonetto says:

I like Hebrews 8:8, “But God found fault with the people and said:’The time is coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.”‘

    (T) Israel kept on turning from the LORD, so God made a new covenant that, not just Jews, but all Gentiles could have relationship with Him.

    (A) Jesus is the new covenant, He is the one who saved everyone from the wrath of God. The people have to choose whether to accept the new covenant or to reject.

    (N) If we don’t choose to accept the new covenant, we would be just like Israel, turning our backs on God. If we do choose to have a relationship with God, we NEED to spread the word, it is a command. Christ died for everyone, so everyone should hear it.

  12. Meisha from Seattle says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

This verse is so encouraging!! That Holy God will forgive my sins and remember them no more, that I cannot comprehend. God is so holy and just that he demands a punishment for all my sins. Yet he devised a plan whereby my sins were paid through the death of Christ. Like Pastor Mike’s message on Sunday, we should rejoice in the fact of our salvation!!

  13. Cameron says:

6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

the New Covenant through Christ abolished all of the OT practices. today we no longer need to participate in animal sacrifices and offerings like the OT saints did. we have Jesus Christ, the ultimate Passover Lamb, who drank the full wrath of the sins of God’s wrath. through the new covenant we have the promise of glorification with our resurrected bodies and the hope of spending in eternity with God. as Christians, we are called to live holy lives, not out of debt, but out of love for God and hatred for sin. so under the grace of the new covenant, let us have faith in God’s grace and conquer sin in our lives!

  14. kelly causky says:

Thank you New Covenant. Because Christ came to earth and died and promised forgiveness to all those with faith in only him, we can live forever. But since God gave us such an extraordinary promise, we need to live for him daily and love him with ALL our hearts.

  15. PaYtOn is EXCITED for beach night TONIGHT!!! :] says:

11…because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE for going up to heaven and telling God that you never heard about Him. HE shows ALL of us that He does in fact exist.
Some one had to create all of this(the earth and universe and all) and you would have to wonder about the creator of it all. So there is no way denying that God made it known to you that He does exist.
But for those who are confused or are still lost, we need to get out there and spread His word, so that others may KNOW the truth and so that they too may recieve the kingdom of heaven. :]

***SPREAD HIS WORD AND MAKE IT KNOWN TO ALL!!!***

  16. Sarah G.! says:

9It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.

This verse reminded me of the fall of man, and how we can never compare to God because of our sin. God is sooooo merciful and good to us that he made the new covenant through his son Jesus out of his love!! Man has never deserved such a love and that grace that God gave should set us christians apart from the rest, even though we too still sin. Don’t abuse God’s grace and love, and stay faithful to the one who gave his son for us!! :D

  17. Mike says:

11 No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

This verse reminded me of when Pastor Bobby told us to be praying for revival on our high school campuses. Even though it is summer, we should not give up those prayers. Everywhere we go, we can be witnesses for Christ. Every person we pass is an opportunity missed to share the great news of this New Covenant – salvation through repentance and faith in Christ. We need to take both our prayer life and our evangelism to the next level this summer, so that we take advantage of the opportunities God gives us to be His ambassadors.

  18. Brad says:

Praise God that we have access to him through Jesus who is at his right hand!

Already 18 comments and it’s not even past 12 yet! Great job guys! I encourage you all the more to post! :D

13By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

So after I read through this, I read through my study bible about this verse because, for me it really stood out to me. A commentary about this verse says “soon after the book of Hebrews was written, the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and its Levitical worship had ended.” I always am in awe when verses come true and it just goes to show how the Holy Bible is alllllll true and nothing in it is false. Prophecies proclaiming who Jesus is and how He dies are also true which gives me even more confidence to go out there and tell people about the Lord. Our book has no faults and there is noooooo way we’d find another book like in it. It’s our comfort and it provides us with convictioooonnn. God speaks through it, like 2 Timothy 3:16 says “all scripture is God breathed”. Lets take advantage of the fact that we have a Bible and read it allll the more! :D

  20. the very tired Kyle Johnson, beach night tonight!!! Revival in 11 days!!! says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Great comment Josh, two great minds think alike! :p I echo Josh How awesome is this promise, there are so many promises in the Bible and I think it was two chapters ago it said that God never lies! So many times we can promise somebody something and we take them back, but God doesn’t because He is perfect! Those whose trust in the Lord will be forgiven from all of those times we rebelled against Him and wronged Him. The Lord says that He will no longer remember our sins! That is so awesome that God won’t remember my sin, what a relief!

  21. Allen McAnlis says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

This day is coming soon and we will be rejoicing with Him for all eternity. We do not know how soon it is approaching though. Threrefore we should still be telling everyone we can to know the Lord before it is too late. Only those who truely know the Lord will be saved from His mighty wrath. We need to continualy spread His word to all around us daily. Time is short and you might say, “I’ll tell that person tomorrow.” But what if tomorrow never comes? Will you risk that chance. Make today your day to go out and bring someone into the house of God.

  22. ~ Ariana Mishreki ~ says:

    I read: Hebrews 8 . . .

I found the entire chapter really cool. Towards the end it states that no matter the sin of the person, God will forgive them. When I was in “The Narrow,” Pastor Lucas used to preach to us that no matter the sin of the person, wether (however you spell that worc) he was a murderer or just told one little white lie, we are all equal. Meaning, we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and we are all equal because a PERFEECT AND HOLY GOD has forgiven us sinful people. That’s something really neat to think about.

  23. Adam Duarte says:

12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Agreed with Ariana; no matter what our crimes, if we are sincere about repentance, we will find forgiveness. That’s really an awesome thing. It seems like so many people say they’ve done things that they can’t be forgiven for – not so! They just need to realize that Christ is forgiving, and will forgive them.

  24. Josh says:

12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Josh Senger you nailed it! We deserve nothing else but to be cast into hell yet God is a merciful God and he WILL not maybe or might he will forgive us our wickedness and completly not even remember it! How amazing that even though everyone here on earth deserves nothing more then to die and Go to hell God is willing to have mercy and save anyone who will repent and make Christ there Lord!
    That is true love!

  25. @ustin " I have no nickname today" wilemon says:

I like these versus because I think it is always cool to see God explain why he does things, through the Bible. In this chapter God explains why he made a new covonent.

  26. steffen eriksen says:

Hebrews 8:12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Then) The author of Hebrews is writing about how a new covenant will come in place of the old one. As part of the new covenant, God says that He will forgive their wickedness, talking about the House of Israel, to whom He will give this new covenant. Not only will He forgive them for all that they have done wrong, but He will also remember all of their mess-ups no longer. (Always) God will forgive all of those who repent of their sins. Whatever they have done wrong, He will wash clean and forgive them for it. Not only that, but He will also no longer remember their sins. This is love. 1 Corinthians 13:5 goes on to say, “…it keeps no record of wrongs.” That is huge! Love will not keep track or every wrong thing each person has done, but instead it will not bear grudges. “Forgive and forget” as the saying goes. Many people may verbally forgive others simply to satisfy the other person and make them feel happy, but truly on the inside, they are still harboring anger and are bearing a grudge. Forgiveness should never be an action done simply to please another. Forgivenss needs to be sincere, when a person truly forgives another for their wrong and doesn’t keep track of it. (Now) I need to make sure that I am always sincere in my forgiveness. If I am not ready to forgive, then I shouldn’t tell someone I forgive them. However, I should be always ready to forgive. I need to not keep track of the wrongs people have done or bear grudges against others. Instead, I need to forgive them sincerely and forget their wrong, just as I hope they will do to me when I mess up! In Christ, SEE

  27. beth ann says:

this whole entire scripture really got my focus

*because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.

thats make me shiver just to think that “christains” who dont remain faithful will not see the lord when he returns….

    its best said to say…

being a christain is not a religion its a relationship with your God, the one who is giving us air to breathe at this very second.

  28. Spencer Camp says:

7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

I am going to summarize what Hebrews 8 says just so I know I’ve got it:

Old Covenant: So there was a covenant made between God and the Israelites, and he asked them to obey all his commands and he would bless them forever. Confidently, the Israelites responded with a resounding “no prob”, we will obey everything that God commands, and God held them to that. Unfortunately the Israelites weren’t perfect (what a surprise), and they consistently failed to be faithful in following God. Thats why the old covenant wasn’t very good.

New Covenant (this one is a lot better): So through Jesus, God’s Son, there was a new covenant made upon earth in which instead of keeping us accountable to the whole law, God decided to create a loop hole (for lack of better words). He did this because we were adamant in our sin and couldn’t even come close to obeying all God’s commandments (the truth is we are weak-sauce in comparison to God, and that is an understatement). So Christ was sent to the earth and met all God’s commands and lived a righteous life for us because we were unable to (truly a remarkable feat). He was sacrificed on the cross for us (he doesn’t deserve this we do) and met the full wrath of God so that we would not have to experience it (the greatest act of love ever!). Christ rose again and established his kingdom in heaven with God, intercessing for us and preparing a place for us (even after he went through so much he still wants good for us. No way, this must be a divine love!). So as it is, through trust in Christ’s righteous life, his obedience will be transfered over to our account so that God will see us a righteous people so we won’t die when we see him (we aren’t righteous or deserving. We are considered or credited with Christ’s righteousness so God can be at peace with us).

I’ll see you all at Salt Creek tonight!!

  29. maddi says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
this is an awsome verse, God is such a graciuos God that he will forgive us our sins against him, he love us so much that he i willing to do that for us. we do not deserve his grace yet he is so willing to give it to us, thats an amazing thing

  30. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 1,”The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,”

I like this verse because it tells about JESUS as our High Priest. Since HE died for us we no longer need any new high priests but only the one who died and rose again. HE is the one and only perfect High Priest and he was also the only perfect sacrifice which lived a perfect life and died and rose again

    CYA at creek tonight

  31. hunter says:

Spencer Camp, amazing comment bro! That put it all in perspective, thanks man!

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

I can’t wait for this day in heaven when everyone will know God! It is going to be amazing to fellowship with Christians from all the different walks of life and praise God with one voice. Even with all our coultural and racial differences we will be united with our common love and passion for Christ. This is much better than the Levitical covenant!

  32. 12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

This verse is comforting, knowing that God gives the chance of people to repent and to trust in him in order to get to heaven. Its because of God’s grace and mercy, that we are saved! nothing WE can do will get us to heaven! Anyways, it is awesome to know that God is such a holy and forgiving God! Having the chance to turn away from our sins is great and for all the people who are not saved, they need to take that opportunity to draw near to God and repent!

  33. Josh says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
God forgives us all the time when we do wrong. he shows his murcy all the time to us. we desirve hell but instead he forgave us and let us live forever. we need to forgive others all the time just as christ did. we also need to live totaly for him because he gave us a way out of hell. i need to work on putting God first all the time in my life.

  34. J YOUNG says:

12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.
How awesome is it to know that God has so much mercy that he would forgive us of our sins, sins being things that God has instructed us NOT to do. If you told someone to clean their room (assuming you have the power to do so.) and they repeatedly disobeyed every single day, would you be frustrated? Now imagine that at the end of every day, that person apologizes, but then goes right back to doing the same things as always. That would be even more frustrating, But God is willing to forgive us every single time. I think that is a great thing.
    See you guys tonight!

  35. Francesca Staggs says:

Hey everyone! This chapter was great, I like verse 12~

“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

We are all sinners and we all know it and need to admit it. God died on the cross so that we could go to heaven with him as if we never had any sin at all. He says that he will “remember our sins no more.” He forgives us every single day and although we keep on sinning, he will never break his promise. He is such a merciful God. Even though he forgives us of our sins, we still need to try our hardest to follow his instructions. We need to put him before everything else in our lives because he is the reason we are living and he is our way to heaven. I need to work on putting the LORD high above everything and everyone else in my life.

See you all at Beach Night! :)

  36. Agafaye V aka Faye(not Aggy) says:

I could not go for two days because I got an dangerous, yet bizarre allergy to dried shrimp with vinegar. Anyway, this verse, For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” means basically that no matter how many times that we sin, God will still forgive us. God is forgiving and just. Imagine you are an adult, assuming that you are as old as Pastor Bob. You tell your son or daughter to not get cookies from the cookie jar, to be asleep by nine-thirty, or touch his/her sibling’s stuff and he does all of those. By the end of the day, you are frustrated and angry. You want to punish him by grounding him/her or spanking him/her. Instead, you forgive the child, but he/she goes back to what he/she is doing. which would be more frustraing, but then again, God is willing to forgive for everything we do to porvoke/frustrate/anger. That, and I can’t go becuase my dad will be home by ten-thirty.

  37. John Karlsson says:

6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises

One of the better promises is the fact that Jesus Christ will always be our high priest. In the old covenant there were many high priests since death would prevent them from continuing in office. But in the New Covenant Jesus Christ has permanent priesthood because he lives forever. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:25

  38. Jasmine Douglas says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Great comments on this verse everyone. God forgives us for every sin. Now what we need to do, is show God’s love through our actions by forgiving other people, even when we don’t want to. We are all sinners and deserve God’s wrath, yet he loves us and remembers our sins no more. So I want to encourage you to think of whoever it is that has wronged you and asked for your forgiveness, that you do just that and put it behind you. If God can forgive us, we can forgive others too =)
    Have a great day, everyone!

Colossians 3:13 “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

  39. ~ 3L!z@b3+h R33v3$ ~ says:

7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

9 It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.

At first, when reading verse 7 I was a little confused. Why would God create a faulty covenant?? But then I read on, and verse 9 explained it. The people were not follwing it correctly, and they were becoming corrupt. So, naturally, God didn’t want anything to do with them, because they were continuing to fall into sin, and they were not being faithful to the covenant. So, God made a newer even more perfect one, and look what happened! Just another example on how God sticks to His word!

  40. Zach V says:

1 The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,
2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.

A lot of people don’t believe in God because they haven’t seen Him before. This question is kind of baffling to many people; why doesn’t God show Himself now? Well, God is sovereign and everything He is doing is for His glory. This means that if He came back now He wouldn’t get as much glory if He comes back at His appointed time. Look at this verse, Jesus is up in heaven being the high priest of the church in a LORD built tabernacle. That’s a whole lot better than one made in china. So we just have to wait until God can get the most possible glory.

  41. Max says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

This is a short verse, but it’s really good! Just the concept of why God, who is a righteous and holy God, who should punish our sins, would choose to let us be forgiven and forget about our sins! It’s really amazing! Just think about it. It’s so crazy just to think that God loves us enough to forget about our sins! And what makes it even more amazing is the fact that He had to sacrifice His only Son to make this possible! God is so amazing!

  42. Haley Litz says:

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

What an awesome verse!! The promise, or new covenant God has made is so awesome and we don’t even come near to deserving it!!! As christians, we get the gift of having a personal relationship with God and we are so undeserving!!! Praise God for His love and mercy!!

  43. Murphy Danahy says:

1The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,
2and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.
3Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.

Finally! A lot of posts. This is so cool. JESUS is our high priest, and he gave the final offering for our sins. He sacrificed his perfect self for our sins. This was the last offering, he offered his life for ours.

  44. ♥tara eddo♥ says:

Hebrews 8:11 “No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.”

What an amazing verse! This sounds so different from what is happening now, the world takes God and the Christian Way so lightly and just tosses it aside! I cannot wait for this verse to come true! To be in a world where we all know the Lord is one of the greatest thing that could EVER happen!!! It is by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ that all good things happen! The New World is coming soon! Be prepared!!!

    ♥GOD BLESS!♥

  45. michelle (maranatha) says:

verse 12 says “For i will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

That is one attribute that God has that a lot of Christians are weak-sauce in(myself included). God keeps no record of wrongs, and He is a very merciful God. Last year at one of the first beach nights, we talked about forgiveness, and our task was to forgive someone who we hadn’t forgiven. I remember that a lot of people cried that night because they felt such a strong conviction from the holy spirit when they, and i, realized that we were in sin and we didnt even know it!
Yes, God forgives us, but let us remember that that is not an open invitation to use that as an excuse to constantly sin. When we ask for forgiveness, we are to make sure that we stay away from that sin that we repented of.
I had a problem with disobedience. It continued on and on for over a year, until my parents dropped the ball and took me to meet Bobby. That was a little over a year ago. That night i felt bad for what i had done, but i didnt fully turn from that sin. So it led me straight to a meeting with christa. That repentance and defeat over that sin only lasted for a year. On Valentines day of this year, my parents and i sat for over an hour in Bobbys office. That night, i realized that its not all about me. I had hurt my parents by being disobedient and by talking back, etc.
It was between God and i. Something i had to defeat, and i could only do it by Gods grace. From that night on, i finally have grasped the realization that saying “im sorry” means more than “well, i got caught, ill try not to do it again”…it means, “please forgive me of my sin, i will pray for God to cleanse me of that sin and i will perservere through this temptation that satin so badly wants me to give in to.”
Another attribute of non-forgiveness is gossip. As teenagers, we are at the age where gossip is flowing out of our mouths. Even our thoughts can be degrating towards others. We should get out of ourselves and be forgiving, just as God commands us to be.

i also like how in verse 2 it talks about how the tabernacle was set up by the Lord and not by man. Now-a-days, everything is man made, but think about the beautiful things that are made by God. And these things that we consider beautiful, like a sunset or the mountains, dont come close to comparison of the things we will witness in heaven:)

    maranatha!!

  46. Taylin says:

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

In my mind, I think that I have experienced they way that the LORD puts his laws in my mind and in my heart. When I am about to sin, I feel this compelling feeling to stop and think about what I am going to do, which gets me to not do that thing. It’s like I can feel the Holy Spirit working in me or something. And knowing that God calls me his personally, that makes me feel wonderful. When it feels like everyone hates me, He will always be there, waiting for me to cry out to him. I’m glad that I have that privledge and wish that everyone had the same.

  47. Christopher Eriksen says:

6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

Its so cool how now unlike the old covenant, Jesus represents us directly to God and has provided promises that He will write His laws on our hearts, we will know Him in a deep and personal way, and He will remember our sins no more. This is all the work of Jesus Christ who made the new covenant possible by sacrificing Himself for us. I need to remind myself of what Jesus Has done everyday and make sure I am daily giving Him praise and not just taking the grace in which I live for granted.

  48. Katie Wildfong~currently considered as a Newb!!!Power to the Young People!! says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

I red this and it stuck out because it is saying that no matter how bad your sins. They will always be forgiven it doesn’t matter who you are, your sins will be forgiven!

I had an Awesome time at Salt Creek Beach Night!

    Thanks Pastor Bobby and Christa:)
    Pray for Revival 09!
    10days!!!!!!

  49. Alison says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

That will be a great day. Just looking now, from a time of so much sin and worthlessness, it would be just SO amazing to know that every person I talked to knew the Lord. It makes me look forward to Christ’s return even more!! MARANATHA!!

  50. ۞۞Ŧŗɇɤϕŗ ђɵśᵮɵŗȡ ۞۞ says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

when u becoome a christian, this is what happens Christs perfect life is exchanged with our not perfect lives and God can look at us and see christ and that is a really great thing

beach night was really good c u all soon

  51. It's Sideswipe Yo! says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

The part in this verse that stuck out to me was the “remember their sins no more”part. This means that when God forgives us he completely forgives us. This is awesome because when people say they forgive you, it’s very common for them to still carry a grudge afterwards.

  52. Matt Lawler says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

Wow, imagine if every single person knew the Lord like this…the whole world would be perfect. Too bad it is far from it, perfection is heaven’s job…that’s why we need to do our job and help everyone be going in the right direction when they leave this imperfect world.

  53. Alicia Karlsson says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

What an amazing statement to think about when we are finally with Jesus. That we will not have to be taught any longer because we will have the full knowledge of God. We will know him completely that which is a mystery will be revealed. But for now we need to strive to know him through his word the best we can. The more we read the bible the more we will know who God is.

  54. Lauren Goudge...the noob :) says:

    hii!
12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”—Jesus is soo amazing! He dies for us and then He is so awsome to forgive our sins even though we do soo many bad things that we think are normal! Even though He will take care of our sins, we must take advantage of it and try our best to not be sinful. Please pray for me that I will strive to Godly and not think that I can do everything half way because Jesus will forgive me.

BEACH NIGHT WAS AMAZING!! CANT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!! :)

    booyahh summerr!!<3

  55. Skyler Wilson says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
WOW this verse just stuck out to me because we are all sinners, but we have a path way to heaven through Jesus Christ because right here he sais i remember their sins no more.
    Maranatha!!
    10 days till Revival

  56. Michael Downs says:

The verse that spoke out to me 4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.

That means If Jesus was on the earth right now he would be our king . Like what we talked at beach night today that what is jesus today.

  57. T moore says:

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

This is awesome! To bad though not everyone realizes this or knows God in this such way (also in verse 11) but I pray that we all (including myself) would go out evangelizing and help people realize that God is there and will do work in there lives but they aren’t caring to know about him.

  58. 10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Praise God for the NEW covenant we have through the atoning work of Christ!! What a motivation it is however to live lives worthy of what we have been called to…a blessed hope!

  59. Brett says:

12.) For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

I love this verse! Just echoing what everyone else has said on this verse; we need to continually give thanks to and PRAISE GOD for this!! He has forgiven our sins and wiped our slates clean, that’s AWESOME!

  60. laura johnson says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

If we are a Christian, every single sin we’ve ever committed is completely ereased from our record in God’s sight. How awesome is that!

  61. Morgan Sherman is at bri's house!! says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

Praise the lord when this day comes!! Man-I cant even imagine looking around the Aliso town center one night and seeing all the people and knowing that they all know God. But I do have a question clarifying this verse: when it says “they will all know God.” Does that mean that they will be Christians or just know ther is a God? But as Alica said, I think just the fact that we will all have the full knowledge of God is amazing. I have so many questions, thhings to thank him for and things to talk about. And then about evangelizing! Everyone will know. We wont have to have hard conversations with people who “dont believe in God.” This thought is definitely amazing and something to look forward to!

  62. Bri Beatty :) says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

That everything that have done, will do that that is all forgiven, but i still need to run away from all sin and keep my selfe from tryin not to sin. But that God does not hold a grudge or keep what the bad things i did, nor does he remember them.

  63. Mady Adler...the other noob :D says:

    yello!!!!

7For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

We have to be soooo thankful that Jesus Christ is perfect and that he could make a perfect covenant for us! The high priest werent really making the cut because they were not perfect. They could not completely come to God the way Jesus can because they are also only human like we are. We NEED Jesus as our mediator to God and to be our PERFECT high priest :)

BEACH NIGHT WAS SOOOOOOO FUNZOMONIOUSS!! WOOOO!!!!!! REVIVALL… 10 DAYS BABAAYY!

    ♥always- mady

  65. Derek Brower *2010* says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.

Its so cool that we can repent of sins daily and be forgiven by the Creator of the universe!!! How legit is that!?!?

  66. Never Take David Personal says:

This whole chapter was legit. Basically, man is sinful, ergo, we cannot take care of our sin problem on our own. Even the “best” man on earth isn’t fit for the kingdom of heaven, yet alone taking care of the sins of others so that they can get to heaven. That is why we need Christ. Salvation comes from Christ alone.Praise God…

  67. Ben Blakey says:

The point of what we are saying is this:

You have to love a chapter that starts off with that. It’s going to tell us the point of what we’ve been learning. And the point is basically Jesus and that he is our high priest–the point is basically the Gospel! It’s awesome to see how Christ-centered and Gospel-centered Scripture is.

And I’m excited to see these next few chapters as we see more of the application of the “point of what we are saying.”

  68. Austin is Taking David Personal says:

6 But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

Mmmm, His word is superior to all else. That means everything is beneath it, it is what tells us what God wants us to do. Truly we serve an amazing God to be able to have such confidence in His promise

  69. Evan McKee says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

13By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

It’s so awesome what God has done for us. I’m so happy that our God actually cares about each and every one of us enough to die so that we could easily get into heaven. What are the odds that he would be so loving? We should be so greatful about what God has done, that we are willing to do anything he wants and be excited to share the good news with others.

  70. Bryan Sonksen says:

    I read…

    Hebrews 8

Verse 12 was awesome… “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.’” In this chapter, the writer was reminding us that the old covenant (the law of the OT) is now obsolete with the resurrection of Christ. I loved this particular verse because it reminds me how much grace God gives me. I am thankful that God is so gracious to us, even though we were once wicked. I am praying that many more would receive His grace at Revival 09.

  71. Mark says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.

Even with all the strife and anger we put upon the Lord with all of our sinful acts he still finds it in himself to forgive our lowly selves. It goes to show you how the mercy of God shows in his un-ending love towards us!!!

  72. LIzzy French.....just another noob says:

12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

I liked this verse because it shows that God has promised to forgive our wickedness and our sins will also be forgotten. I liked this chapter and how is says how the old covenant will become obsolete and the new covenant will become our covenant.

    God Bless!

  73. Zach Senger 2010 says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

WOW!!! How amazing is our God that He does this for us!! We are givin complete forgiveness and God will not remember any of our sins! This is the most amazing thing we can hear as horrible sinners! But let this not be something that we see as a free card to sin whenever we want too

  74. Keith says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

I find the last part of this verse very meaningful and hopeful for the world as a whole. We’re all in this together, for we can all come to the knowledge of the truth.

    We are all Gods children.

  75. Chelseaaa says:

12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

This is an amazing quality of God. He forgets sins and doesnt hold them against us. If He didnt we would all be in trouble big time.

  76. Rebekah Foreman says:

11No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
12For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

We all know who god is and believe in Him but it is if we turn 180 and stay that way. We as the body of Christ all are in this together and catch each other when we fall. God forgives us even if we did the worst thing. God forgiveness is amazing and we should strive to be like him.
