4:1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. 2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said,
“As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest,’”
although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” 5 And again in this passage he said,
“They shall not enter my rest.”
6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (ESV)

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.
I love these two verses because the remind me of the amazing grace of Jesus Christ! What an amazing promise we as children of the light have to cling to…that we have Jesus to intercede for us to the Father; not only that but Jesus himself was a man who walked this earth and was tempted and tried just like we were, yet he failed not! When we are tempted and tried we can always look to HIS example and pray for the strength to follow it. May we worship our King for He is sooo good to us!
12. For the God is living and active. Sharper than any double- edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
This statement is very true! A lot of times people, me included, can miss this amazing truth about the bible. But if you take the time to actually read it and medidtate on it, you’ll find that the bible gets to the core of the human condition and makes you realize who you are as a sinner and most importantly who God and Jesus Christ are too.
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
One of my favorite verses on the power of the Bible. It is interesting to note the context of the preceding verses: people entering and not entering God’s rest. Those people are distinguished by their continued obedience or lack of obedience over time. But how can we be obedient if we do not know what to do? Clearly to live the life we are supposed to live we must cling to the Scriptures as a life line day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute. We do this through our daily Bible reading and study, memorizing and meditating on Scripture, and making the commitment to hearing the Word of God preached at Church weekly. How else will we be able to correctly distinguish right from wrong? How else will we be set straight when our hearts have deceived us?
Vinessa…I was so excited to see you on SOTD this morning! Way to use your free time this summer for God’s glory!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
The God we worship is omnisicent and onmipresent…He knows all things and is in all places at once. There is no use trying to hide our sin from Him because He knew of our sin before we even committed it! We must remember that one day, even as Christians, we will have to give an account of our lives to God. We won’t be judged for our sin, because Jesus paid the price for that with his substitutionary death on the cross. However, we will be held responsible for what we did with our lives once we became Chrisitans. Think about the intensity of standing before God and having to tell Him what you did with your life once He saved you from hell. I pray that each of us would live with the knowledge of the fact that we will one day give an account to God for what we did or did not do with the life He gave us to live on earth. May today be a day where we devote ourselves to doing His good and make eternal things a priority. This summer could be awesome if each of us use it to do good for the Lord instead of for sleeping in, hanging with friends and catching up on the shows that are on our Tivos!
Heb 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Thanks Dan for your comments! Jesus is our mediator and the Rock we can stand on – fully God and also one who lived as we do with flesh but was perfect. And because He lived as we do but without sin we cna be confident in our faith that He has delivered on the promise of grace and mercy! Thank You Lord!
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
This is a great verse because it tell how powerful the word of God is. It is soooo important that we are getting into the word everyday. It doesnt just affect our outer appearance to others, but it also helps purify our our “thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
It has been said that the way you act when you think nobody is watching is who you really are. The only problem with that saying is the fact that God is always watching. So the next time you are tempted to sin because you think no one is watching or you know you can get away with. Just remember that God is atching . Not only does God see your actions he also knows your hearts. And while some people pretend they are christians and fool some of us at church, God is not fooled or mocked. So lets serve God today in action and truth and give glory to him not because we have to or want to impress our friends but because we love him and want to obey his commands.
I really like verse 1 and how it talks about people falling short of the Lords rest. That isn’t really good, but it provides a great reminder that we should know for certain and not be decieving ourselves and others so on the Day we will not hear “away from
me you evildoer, I never knew you”
13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
This verse really shows the power God has over every single thing on earth! But to alot of us even to Christians sometimes this verse should really scare us! We need to constantly be giving our ALL to Christ and if we serve and we arent doing it with the right reasons God can see it and he knows our true heart! Also sin that we think we are hiding, we may be hiding from other people but God really knows that were doing it he can see everything we do….Which can be encouraging as well because God also sees the good works we do in his name! But also very scary at the same time.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
One word…….Mmmmmmmmmm!!!
Goood Morning!! I liked verse 12-For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Such an amazing verse! The Bible is a living book-driving through peoples’ hearts, convicting them, and giving us chills in our bones. This verse is so amazingly true-seeing the transformation of people from this one book. A song by Casting Crowns says “the word is alive! and it cuts like a sword through the darkness, with a message of life to the hopeless….breathing life into all who believe.” It doesnt get any truer than that! Simply taking the Bible to evangelism, we know that we plant the seed and God convicts their heart, but the Bible pierces them like a sword saying that they are destined to Hell. The Bible is such a wonderful gift of God to us that reveals all that we need to know, and we need to 1)trust it 2)read it 3)apply it. 1 Peter 1:3- His divine power has given us everything we need for a life of godliness through our knowledge of his who called us by his own glory and goodness.” The Bible gives us that. Amen!
Are we going evangelizing tonight?
Hebrews 4:13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Then) The author of Hebrews is telling his audience that there is absolutely nothing that is hidden from God. He writes to them that everything is uncovered and laid open without anything to cover it before God’s eyes. He lastly adds about how each must give an acoount before God for all these things, whether seen or unseen by man, that he has done. (Always) God is omnipresent (being everywhere at once) and He is also omniscient (all-knowing). Nothing escapes Him for He knows all and sees everything that everyone has done. Each person must stand before God to give an account of his life, and nothing will be hidden, for God knows all and everything will be brought to light, whether it be good or bad. (Now) I need to never think that I can ever hide my sin from God. When I do sin and feel guilty for what I have done, I need to confess what I have done and repent of it instead of living just trying to cover up my sin, for that will only cause more and more trouble. I need to always remember that I will stand before God to give an account of my life here in the flesh, and then use that to spur myself on to live a life pleasing to God. In Christ, SEE
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Wow, God’s word is powerful!!!! It says it is living and active! I don’t think any other book in the world is like that!!! God’s word works in our lives and on our hearts, we are called to live by it and follow Christ’s example in it. It is sooo important to be in God’s word DAILY!! Especially during the summer, with all the free time, reading God’s word is the best way to spend that time and to grow!
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
this is talking about the day of judgment where God will judge ower hearts.
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
What a privilege we have to come into God’s presence through prayer and worship!
Because of what our High Priest Jesus Christ has done we have direct access to the throneroom of God. This is something that would have seemed impossible to the Israelites in the Old Testament, but because of Christ we can have this intimacy and closeness with God today. I wonder if we take it for granted? I wonder if we act like it is no big deal to talk with God or ask him for help?
My prayer is that today I will realize how awesome it is I can have a relationship with God and talk with him and think about him all day long.
I am coming to God for grace today so that I can preach a sermon at True North this weekend that will bring him glory and encourage/challenge all of our students! Please pray with me for this, that God will work among us at True North at church this weekend!
Also, I posted Ben’s sermon from Welcome Freshmen night! Power to the Young People! You should check it out or listen to it again! http://www.compasschurch.org/hs/sermons
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
This passage just shows the importance of the Bible. We need to make sure that we are in the word because it is living and active!! It will make change in our life, it will show us how we are to live and when we read it we will actually do it but when we dont read the word you will feel far and not strong in your faith. So let us be in the word and constantly grow!!!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Ahh this is like such a good way to get people motivated not to sin. Like EVERYTHING is revealed to God; our thoughts our actions our words . Its crazy so we should make sure that everything we think do and say is for the glory of God.
13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
This verse is a great reminder to us of 2 things. First, it is an encouragement that God will not let the wrong done to us go unpunished. He sees and knows the ways in which His children are persecuted, and while He allows it to happen, on the day of Judgement He will repay men for their sins. Secondly, it is a reminder to us that we cannot hide our sins from Him. No thought or deed escapes His notice, so we need to come before Him in great humility and confess everything to Him, knowing that He already knows, so that we can be restored.
11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
I love how this verse is worded…make effort to enter rest. Christ offers perfect rest, but that rest is something we must fight for! There are so many things that try to keep us from fixing our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 3:1).
What are those things in our lives that we must fight against so we can rest?
Is it some temptation?
Is it trying to work for our salvation?
Is it the spiritual pride of thinking we are better than other people?
Let’s fight against those things today!
Great to see people who were at the Freshmen Welcome already up here on SOTD!
2For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
3Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ” And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world.
Faith. That is the key component in this passage. Faith. GOD sent Jesus to die on the cross for us, and if we have faith then we will be saved. Faith in Jesus is the key, good works follow afterwards.
Verse 12 reminds me of putting on the full armor of God in Ephesians 6, and how the word is the “sword of the Spirit.” Its so cool how God already gave us battle gear to fight evil.
Now verse 13 its so wierd, God is ALWAYS watching, thats okay, but also kind of creepy, but whatever. I just need to remind myself that before I do anything stupid.
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
THANK YOU JESUS!!! without Him we would never be able to have the chance to recieve the kingdom of heaven(unless we were perfect, which we know has already failed for everyone, except Jesus). WE need to remember that through our tuff times Jesus is always with us, and can comfort and help us. :]
***JESUS IS ALWAYS THERE WITH YOU***
2For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
I think that this is a pretty accurate representation of people in society today who call themselves Christians because they went to church when they were little. They think that because they learned about God all their life, heard or know the gospel, that they are saved. However, the author of Hebrews makes it clear that its possible that “those who heard did not combine it with faith.” Without faith, a true dependency on God and relationship with Him, we have nothing and the knowledge of the gospel is of no value.
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Wow so much goodness in this chapter!
What a great description of how God sees us. As I read this morning the image that came to my mind was my baby girl when I give her a bath. I lay her in this sling butt naked and her body kind of sits there she doesn’t move around much she just lays completely stretched out and then I wash her down. All of her body is exposed nothing is hidden. Although wierd that is the image that came to my mind when I read “everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him” God sees every part of us. There is nothing we can hide from him. We are completely stretched out and everything we do and are is uncovered before the Lord. Last night one of the teen ministers was sharring and she said you may be able to fool everyone on the outside, but God sees all of you. All the impure thoughts, your heart, you attitude, he sees it all. Lets be so aware today that God is seeing all of us. We are completely uncovered and bare before him. And keep at the forefront of our mind that we will give an account for everything. That means all the stuff we can see and all the stuff that is we try to hide.
2For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
Like Murphy, i loved this verse too!! It reminded me of the gospel!! Faith and repentance through God = eternal life!! We profess the gospel through our faith in him, and good works without faith are considered nothing!! Praise God the one who saved us from eternal damnation!! :D
2For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
This verse is great! So this verse is talking about the non-Christians hearing the gospel, but it had no meaning in their lives and it didn’t leave to them taking their stand on the gospel and a life change due to them no responding to it by repentance and faith. This used to be me, I knew the gospel! I just didnt respond to it rightly or it had no impact in my life.
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
God’s word is living and active! We need to realize the power of God’s Word that it can radically change people’s lives and it does! It teaches what is good and bad in God’s sight and the Bible just helps us out with our sin, thoughts, and attitudes of our hearts!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
God’s can see everything! Nothing is hidden from Him! God knows our sins and everything about us, both good and bad! Everything is before Him, He knows everything and He sees everything! Nothing will be a secret! You can’t hide from God and you can’t fool Him! So let’s make sure that we are right with God because He knows and sees everything and you are going to be judge for what you are!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
This is so true. Many people act like God is not watching them at all times though. So many people think that if nobody else knows about something bad they did that they are safe when in reality God has already known you were going to do that since the beginning of time. We as Christians need to make actions based of the facr that God is is watching us at all times know’s everything about you. Nothing can be hidden from Him.
I like this passage just because it just gives you a little more of an understanding of why God did and does what he does.
This passage was so great! all of it was so encouraging and all of it was verry important! Something that stuck out to me is verse 13…
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Nothing is hidden from God at all. From the thoughts in our mind to every action we do and every word we say. Even if no one else hears it, God does. We can do bad things and maybe we can get away with it and no one knows. Maybe we don’t get in trouble here, but God knows. I think thats worse then if anyone else find out. He created us and we need to follow what he has told us.
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
I Love this passage. I think its sooo true!! we should aproach God with confidence when praying, or even one day n heaven, but deffinitly do it with respect and fear. the kind of fear you have out of respect. that is the way we should all behave. Like the psalmist said, the fear of the Lord is the beggining of understanding.
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Some people view the Bible as “just a book” or “old stories that have nothing to do with us today.” All those people are sadly mistaken. The word of God, AKA the Bible, is not just an old book, it’s alive! It’s active; it still means just as much as it did when it was written. It’s also very powerful. It says here that it’s sharper than a double-edged sword. Now that’s pretty sharp. “It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow,” now that is intense. I would not want a sword stabbing me right through the chest. Here the Bible is said to be like a sword that cuts straight through you, all the way through your joints and marrow. But unlike a physical sword, the Bible cuts through hearts and souls, not flesh and blood. It cuts deep into us and convicts us and changes us from the inside out. There isn’t one book in the entire world that has changed me and many other people as much as the Bible has. Anyone who looks down on the Bible or simply doesn’t believe in it is a fool. This verse is just awesome!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
We can never hide anything from Christ, he sees, knows, hears, everything!! But because of that we always have someone whom we can repent to and talk to. I am so thankful that Christ is always there and knowing that he knows everything helps keep me accountable.
I’ma like’n the comments and I’m excited to be on here this afternoon, it revives me and keeps me going through the resssssst of the day! :D
I just love the comparison here of Jesus being greater than the high priest, a verrrry high position back in the day at the church. He was the onnnnly one who got to go in and give the atoning sacrifice for the people…and even that was scary! They tied the man to a rope and pulled him out because they were not allowed to go in, even if he had died in there! God is powerful and mighty, and just being in His presence the way he was would cause you to drop dead! But Jesus was greater than even that, let into Heaven after He rose again, because He is the son of God…and GOD! When He comes back someday, He won’t be the image of a humble man that you see in paintings or at the mormon church, He’ll be someone that we will fall before, fearful of what He will do to us. In Revelation 1:14-16 it describes Him as someone that we have deeeefinitely not seen before! Hair and head pure white, a sword coming out of His mouth, a voice more powerful than thunder, and eyes that glow like fire! INTENSE! That’s the God we need to remember to obey through our parents and through everything we do actually! And yet, like Bobby said, we have a relationship with Him. LET US GIVE THANKS! :D
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
I loved what Beth said about this verse, and I completely agree! Im just going to add that not sinning with the same intentions is definitely a motivation! Knowing that nothing is hidden from God and that he knows everything! Its scary if you think about it, but its such an encouraging verse as well!
ELLO… I read
I like verse 15,”For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.”
I like this verse because it shows that we can never say well what does GOD know HE never experienced this. This verse shows that GOD was tempted just like us and that HE came out without sin. HE is perfect and can have no fault. HE didn’t fail like the rest of us. We may not be perfect but GOD set the perfect example for us to follow. We are to try to the best we can to follow CHRIST’s example we will not be perfect because we are only human but GOD did it and we are supposed to do it… try to be perfect.
CYA
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
The Bible is more than a book that you read. When you read any other book, you may enjoy the story, like the way its written, maybe even be “touched” by the story. The Bible is so much more than that. It penetrates the heart. Anyone who deeply reads the Bible will realize that it was not written by a human. There is so much power behind the words, it will help you in life in any way. When we read the Bible, we need to realize who is actually talking to us.
Great comments Steffen, Tanner, and Snowmann!
11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
I think the relationship between faith and obedience is so beautiful! The more we trust God for all that He is and does for us the easier it becomes for us to obey Him. It is by faith that we recieve the “rest” and it is through our obedience that we remain in the rest that only God can give. As a church lets remain in the rest of God today through obedience to Him!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
i know a lot of people are talking about this verse, but it really stood out to me. we as people are not perfect, so when we sin, sometimes we try and justify the sin by saying, it was a small sin or im only gonna do it once or God cant see me do this, but in reality God can see everything we say do and even think, and if that does not make you realize you cant hide what you do from God i dont know what will. so for the people who know this, we need to live our lives so that God would be pleased to see what we do. we are going to fail, but we need to strive to do better and better as we grow in our faith.
the freshmen allniter was awesome, team NI dominates
13.) Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Wow, just like a lot of other people said, this is such an awesome reminder and reality that God is watching, even when others aren’t. So that’s why we need to be living to please God and not just put on a “mask” for other people.
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
We can’t hide anything from God. He knows us better than anyone. If we sin, we need to come to Him and not try and hide it because He knows.
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
This I want for EVERYONE at True North! Me too! I want all of us to hold firmly to the faith that we profess.
It is really heart-breaking when someone that you get to know so well starts to fall away from the church and forsakes their first love, who is Christ. Let us keep encouraging one another to pursue Christ and treat one another as better than ourselves.
This world has taught us to look out for ourselves only, but instead we should die to ourselves and live in pursuit and love of others, by the strength that Christ provides! In fact that is what Christ did for us on the cross!
See you all at True North!
15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.
let us praise God for the Lord Jesus Christ, who is making intercession for us to the Father! and let us also praise Christ for His protection, because it is His perfection that is credited to our account and it is that righteousness of Christ that allows us to spend eternity in heaven with God. i look forward to the day when we receive our glorified bodies, when we will be without sin and like Christ. lets pray Maranatha everyday!
13 “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
This is something that I know I don’t remember or think about enough.
Is there something you don’t want anyone else to know? Do you think you’re doing a good job at hiding it/keeping it a secret? This verse tells us to think again! If there’s anything we think we’re keeping secret from others around us, we need to remember that God knows it. He sees all, knows all. So next time we think about keeping some sin secret, let’s remember that we can’t and will never be able to hide anything from God. Let’s remember that he’s watching us, and let’s endeavor to please Him rather than ourselves.
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
THis verse really grasped my attention, because irs is true that evrything we do is recorded. God knows all. NOTHING we do is ever erased. Every sin, every action (good or bad) he will know. A lot of times we sin and dont even realize it. We can’t let sin go unnoticed, God doesn’t.
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
This goes right along with Bobby’s sermon. The Bible is extremely powerful. Me must realize that the Bible is God’s word!!! God’s word!!! Just think about that. When you read the Bible, God is talking to you. Wow, go up to someone and tell them that God talks to you on a regular basis; see what they say. That’s how we need to think of the Bible. It’s not just words on a paper because these words are God’s and they have divine power.
Ahh! This chapter is so amazing.. i have to post on 2 verses… it was so hard to pick two. haha
2For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
This verse is really cool… The Gospel is soooo incredibly powerful. However, it can have no affect on people if they just listen and they dont put what they hear into action. You cannot just say, “Oh yea.. I believe that Jesus died on the cross” and you cant just “say a prayer” when you were 5. To be a follower of Christ, you NEED active faith. You need to be living a life that proves you are 100% for Christ and you dont just believe that Jesus was real. Even the demons recognize Christ as the Son of God. They know how powerful he is and they know he is the Christ. However, they dont choose to worship him, and put their faith into and trust him with everything they have. Thats the huge, heaven vs. hell, difference in believing and FAITH!
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Wow.. this verse is kinda scary. NOTHING we do is hidden from Christ. He knows every single bad thought we have, he knows every bad motive we have, and he definitely knows if we are just putting on a show for everyone to see with our Christianity. God knows our heart. We may fool our friends and our teachers and our pastors, but one day we will have to be judged and give an account for if we lived for Christ, or if we just ACTED like we did at church. I pray that we all would check our motives and make sure that everything we do is Christ-centered and only to please him!!!
Woah… that was long :) haha

3Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
This is saying that you cant hide ANYTHING from God. Anything you do he will see. So act loving and Godly towards everyone all the time and you will have nothing to hide!
PS. I had an AMAZING time at The welcome freshmen all nighter. Thanks so much Pastor Bobby and Christa and all of the supervision. It was a blast and also thank you to the Litz’s for allowing us to use their home as a place to bond with eachother.

13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Whoa! Since absolutely nothing is hidden from God’s sight, even the secret sin that we hide from our friends or family is exposed before God. Not only that, but one day we will have to give an account to God regarding our sin. What a great reminder that we need to live our lives obediently to God’s Word, and actively fight the sin that is still reigning in our hearts. I pray that we would be motivated to check ourselves daily to see what sins we are tolerating, remembering that all is exposed before our Lord!
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
How awesome it will be that we’ll soon be in the presence of God in the kingdom of heaven!! Praise God! Because without His wonderful grace, we wouldn’t even have a slim chance in entering the gates of heaven! Let’s just take the time, and realize and thank Him of how much God’s done for us and how much He loves us soooo dearly!
2For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
We are to be doers of the word. Just reading is not enough. There are so many people who read the word, and walk away forgetting what they just read. We need to be meditating and applying the word to our lives. This way we will get the most out of the instruction manual the Lord has left us with to follow. It is so important that we are obedient to His commands as well. We are to make ourselves more holy each and every day, striving to be like Christ. I am so thankful for the leaders i have in my life, teaching me ways to apply the Bible to my life, and teaching me how to pick apart scripture and understand it myself. I am so thankful for true north and everything that it has to offer. I love my true north family (:

12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
People, myself included, underestimate the power of scripture. It can have an effent on chosen people that go far beyond what normal words can do. We sometimes forget this wehen we are evangelizing too.
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Every sin, every motive, every action, every though, “EVERYTHING” is clear before God’s eyes. Followers of Christ must then not hide or not confess any sin we might be living in, but rather repent from it and strive to rid our lives of that sin. Lord, help me to live a repentant life, repenting each day for the sins I commit! Thank you for providing me with an intercessor!
Pray for Revival ’09!!! TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
It is so amazing to think about how God was able to stand up to all temptation thrown at him in his life. not once did he slip up, and he was put under all the temptation that we face! this should encourage us to do everything for him and to stay away from sin. He could do it when he became human, so we should try our best to become like him, and we have no excuse for when we do fall into sin.
Hebrews 4
1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.
2 For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
In the Old Testament Israel’s resting place was the Promised Land which was their inheritance. Our rest as Christians is found in Jesus Christ. We have Christ who lived the perfect life that we could not live and suffered death on the cross for all of our transgressions. He rose again three days later to fulfill the will of God the Father. God has promised to us eternal life for those who have lasting faith in His Son Jesus Christ. Without lasting faith which endures we too could fall short of it (eternal rest). Many will hear the Gospel but unfortunately will never have real faith which is strong and produces fruit.
Matt 13:14-15 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “ ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15 For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.
Im sorry everyone, we failed by 25min, but we had an awesome time evangelizing! :)

I like this reminder of how powerful the Bible is. We definitely dont take it as seriously as it needs to be taken. In most of Orange County we are looking apon as some sort of super Christian if we tell others that we read a chapter a day, and yet, there are people sacrificing everything to have a piece of this book that Compass gives away for free. i am going to apply this verse to my life by using more of my “free time” to spen in the word instead of on useless things that we do everyday without even thinking about it.

I read this verse and was amazed it is so powerful. And it shows how strong the Bible is. People these days don’t take it serious when they need to for God is the most powerful thing ever. We underestimate the power of the Bible and we need to meditate on it.
