Psalm 23
The Lord Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever. (ESV)

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I know many other people are going to comment on this verse too, but it really means a lot to me. It is so self-explanatory, making it perfect to be a verse to memorize (I have) because you don’t need to jump anywhere from A to B to get the meaning and benefit from it.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
This verse is also highly encouraging to me. I know that I’m not alone in this world that is so against Christ and Christians. When I am tempted by things around me, I’m not alone. This verse also makes me think of 1 Corinthians 10:13. God will provide a way out. He will guide me through it if I rely on Him. Another thing I really love about this verse is that it reminds us that this is for God; HIS glory, not ours…”for his name’s sake.”
Cant sleep :P anyway,
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
The Christian life is peaceful and loving, not the opposite. What people don’t realise is that everything the world wants you to satisfy yourself with never will actually fulfill us. The Lord will comfort and restore us when we are weary from all the evil in this world.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Sheep are notorious for running away from the safety of the pasture and falling headlong into danger without even realizing it. And we as Christians do exactly the same thing. We are constantly battling against sin, and too often we fall into it and are ensnared. But like the shepherd to the sheep, the Lord is always there for us; even if we did not take the way of escape He originally provided us, He will forgive us, set us back on safe ground, and give us the strength and comfort to keep going. But more than restoring us when we fall, He leads us in the right paths as well. John 10:3-4 says that “…the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” Our passage today says that “He leads me beside quiet waters.” Our Shepherd knows what is best for His sheep much better than the sheep do themselves; so we need to stop acting like typical sheep, quick to wander off and follow their peers to destruction, and start responding to the guiding of the Lord in our life.
Sheep are incredibly stupid animals! They fall off cliffs, get stuck in bushes, often run toward the sound of danger when they’re confused, & they’re 100% defenseless. In God’s eyes, we’re pretty much the same. The fact that David (& God) compares us to sheep also shows David’s humility. However, the shepherd, especially in the Bible, is portrayed as someone who loves these stupid, defenseless creatures, protecting them with his life & even disciplining them by breaking a leg at times. Praise God, our loving shepherd, who lay down his life for us & disciplines us when we need it most!
This is one of my favorite psalms! It talks about how God will protect us and God is truly the one who will satisfy us and your needs! Nothing else will fully satisfy us.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is one of my favorite verses out of psalm 23. Certainly, goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and i will settle in the house of the Lord FOREVER!
God is good all the time and all the time God is Good!(:
2 … he leads me beside quiet waters,
I Love Psalm 23!
As Ryan mentioned sheep are incredibly stupid! Like all living things sheep need water. The shepherd tries to lead the sheep to streams of clean flowing water. However, often along the way the sheep will drink from muddy parasite infested puddles. Now that is stupid! Why would sheep settle for disgusting dirty water when clear and clean water is just down the road from the shepherds lead? However, don’t we do the same thing every time we compromise from what God wants us to do? God has given us his commands so that we might experience a life filled with joy and completeness. Let us not settle for anything less today!
“If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:10,11
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
The shepherd/sheep analogy is perfect for God and His children. As Ryan and Dan mentioned, sheep are stubborn, stupid animals and their shepherd has to sacrifice his life for them. He sacrifices sleep, comfort and faces the danger of wild animals to save His sheep. Verse 1 states clearly that if God is my shepherd then I should rest 100% secure that He will take care of me. As my shepherd God is in control of all areas of my life. He leads and guides me toward righteous living. Although I might not always understand why the Lord leads me down the paths He choses, I can rest in the knowledge that His way is much better than my way. God as my shepherd is not concerned with guiding me though a comfortable life, but He desires for me to live a life where I am conformed into the likeness of His Son, Jesus. Lord, please help me to have no other wants in my life besides You. Help me to trust You for everything and realize that if I have you as my shepherd I have everything! Thank you for giving up Your Son for me so that I could be one of your sheep!
I love how we are sheep in this Psalm. And God is our Shepherd. David was just a shepherd when he wrote this. You would be surprised how deep this passage goes. I have read a book called “A Shepherds Look at Psalm 23″ Written by Philip Keller. If any of you are interested in borrowing it from me I would be happy to lend it. It is an awesome book!

3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
God has a plan for all of our lives. We are tools that are made to bring His name glory. So if sometimes we dont understand why things are going on in our lives, we need to realize that God is in control, He has a plan, and He will somehow glorify Himself through it.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
As Christian’s, we must turn away from all things from this world. God is with us and he will provide. There is no reason to obsess over some materialistic thing that we want. Whether it be something that you can buy, a girlfriend/boyfriend, etc. God is in control, and he knows what is best for us. As pastor Ben has said, God shouldn’t be “number one” in our lives, he should be the ONLY thing in our lives!
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
The Lord restores my soul… it’s difficult to comprehend how much power God has!! The last part of this verse is giving the glory to our all powerful God. Therefore, I can do/meditate on two things today!! I need to praise him more today for being God of the universe with all control and I need to be always thinking about how I’m giving God the glory through my actions and words!! :D
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
YES:) i cannot wait to be home with my Lord forever!!Its crazy…our minds cannot comprehend the awesomeness of heaven, let alone the holiness of God! I cant wait to actually do what our praise songs say: fall facedown in front of the Lord. Praise His name FOREVER AND EVER.
Heaven is going to be so great..that actually doesnt even grasp a miniscule of it, but i know it will be indescribable! There will be no pain and suffering. No hurt, no hunger, no worry, no sin. PERFECTION. I cant wait to see what God has in store for us:)
MARANATHA!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
We are His sheep and He is our shepherd. He always gives us what we need, and He protects us from evil we can’t handle. He loves us so much that He shows us the path of righteousness but unfortunately we don’t always take it. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and you will take the right path. HE LOVES YOU! :]
***LOOK TO HIM!!!***
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
If we have Christ as our shepherd, what more could possibly be better? Therefore it is foolish of us sheep to wander off to what may seem to be the place where “the grass is greener on the other side”–in truth, it is only an illusion, because the pastures surrounding Christ are the greenest we’ll ever find.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
The Lord is our protector, and this verse comforts me because with God leading me down a path, I must not feel completely vulnerable to evil because my great shepherd is walking by my side. Even in the darkest times of our lives, God is with us always. He will never desert or forsake us.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 1,”The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.”
I like this verse because it shows how content and happy David is. I like this because it shows how we are supposed to be. GOD is perfect and has done only good for us, we have to right to want more than HE has given us when we deserve death.
CYA
6.) Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Just like Michelle said, I cannot wait to go home and be with the Lord for eternity, worshipping Him forever! MARANATHA!!!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
Great comments! I really liked what Jackson said. David is writing that the LORD is his shepherd and he will not be in want because of that. David is satisfied in the LORD, not seeking after the world to bring Him happiness. Many people live their lives only to be caught up in the newest thing this world has to offer. And Satan is so deceptive that he tries to make the things of this world look fulfilling and long-lasting. In truth, however, they are hollow and will not last. But the LORD brings true satisfaction; In Him will be found true joy. God needs to be above all else, not only the #1 priority, but even more that He is your life! And though the world will try to bring people down with their deceptive talk and hollow pleasures, Christians need to be above that in living lives of NO COMPROMISE!!! Solely living for God and not to please men or to get any earthly possession, this needs to be the way that I am always living my life!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
I love this psalm! Though people quote this first verse frequently, we need to remembert to live by it. It means that God is looking after us, even if we get lost He will guide us back to Him. If we have God as our shepherd, we should not want anything else. We must put all our trust in Him. God is all we need.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a very pleasant thought. If we followt the Lord, then surelely we wil dwell in his house and praise Him forever. Goodness will follow us if we follow God. Because although God presents us challenges, and being a Christian is nto easy, he will bless us if we live with Him.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. i need to work on not being in want. i all the time want different things, but i need to trust in God and he be my one and only desire.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
I loved this verse because it reminded me of how powerful God is. Everything He has done for us has always done us good in one way or another. David was talking of times in other psalms where he thought he would die if God did not answer him. Yet towards the end of the psalm, David always starts to praise God for what he knows He’s doing, even though David can’t tell at the moment. I have found this true so many times! Everything seems to be going wrong and then even if it’s a couple minutes or a couple days later, or even weeks and years. I always see how God changed my life for the better.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
I love how sure David is of what God is going to and has done for him. He’s saying that God will basically be there for Him forever and that he is going to heaven when he dies. Not everyone who says their Christian is sure they’re going to heaven. If we call ourselves Christian and we trust in the LORD and follow and obey Him with all our hearts, we should know that we’re going to heaven when we die. I know, do you?
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I love this verse! It is so comforting to me! Because God is with me, I don’t have to fear evil because I am walking in the light with The Lord! I know people who fear evil and death, but since I am a disciple of Christ, I know that I have nothing to worry about! It is my responsibility this coming up year, and forever, to talk to many people about the gospel of Jesus Christ and to be obedient! So then they will learn the importance of repentance and giving their life to God… so that they will fear no evil, because HE is with them! This is a powerful passage, and its not something to be taken lightly. We deserve eternal hell, but God is so merciful and graceful that we are saved! Having comfort as this verse talks about, is pretty awesome! God is SO SO SO good to us!
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is what happens when we follow God. We Have happiness in our lives, better things happen, and we know and understand what love is. We will also have eternal life with the Lord, and never be separated from Him. This is why the non Christians are wasting their lives. They don’t understand love, they are not obeying and living for God, and most importantly, they won’t be we with God for all eternity, and that would not be very pleasant!
Psalm 23!!!!
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
David is not worrying about the danger or any type of evil, he is saying that he is not going to worry about the evil that’s around him because God is with him! Knowing that God is with him, David doesn’t find anything to fear! Even if David dies, he knows in verse 6 that he will be with the Lord forever! So David doesn’t fear death because He will be with His Lord! I too, can hardly wait to be with the Lord in His everlasting Kingdom! Are you?
THANK YOU PASTOR BOBBY FOR OUR AWESOME SWEATSHIRTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReViVaL rEmIx was SUPERB! =)
Goodmorning everybody . . .
I read . . .
“4. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Many times over and over, we have probably heard that sheep are really stupid animals. They bump into eachother, and crowd around on the road looking for their shepherd. We are equivilant to sheep. (sadlly) We are dumb and stupid and have no clue where we are going. However, with the help and guidence of God’s rod and staff, we will exit the valley of the shadow of death. We’ll be comforted by God and will fear no evil. When we have God on our side, nothing greater than Him can be against us and, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.

God bless everybody.
GREAT JOB “SHAM-WOW!” =)
1 “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.”
3 “He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
We are the sheep, He is the shepherd. What a perfect image. If I know of any single quality that characterizes sheep, it’s probably stupidity. They are constantly wandering off from the the herd for whatever foolish reason. The shepherd has to bring them back to the flock again and again. And that is a perfect description of life. Though we as God’s sheep may (and often will) stray, He is faithful to bring us back onto His path, not because of who we are or what we’ve done, but for His name’s sake, because He loves us.
We as Christians should be able to say that this entire Psalm is true of our lives. If we’re trusting in Him, then the LORD actually is our shepherd. We will (and should) not be in want of anything else, because we have Him as our guide and protector. Let’s be satisfied and at peace today because God is our shepherd.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Goodmorning! My favorite part of this verse has to be the use of the word ‘shadow’. For Christians, if we have any fear of physically dying, its merely a shadow of what will actually happen. Shadows are always bigger than the actual thing causing it. Death nolonger should be feared because we have God, the creator of the universe on our side. Not only does he protect us from death, he also comforts us. Jesus died so that we could see death as a mere shadow. What a beautiful representation of how God truly loves us.
I love this Psalm and Beth I agree with you!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
We have EVERYTHING we could need or want in the Lord…He is a good and sovereign and faithful and loving God and He will take care of His kids. Matthew 7:11 says, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” TRUST HIM! :))
NEW BLOG!
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I love this Psalm. It’s so comforting to know that no matter where we are, God is always with us! We shouldn’t ever have a fear of anything or anyone because God won’t allow anything to happen that isn’t part of his plan. That should help us to trust him in everything!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
this is a great verse because it tells us that all we need can be found in christ. so when we want something we can think about this verse and remember that if we need anything God will provide, but this doesnt mean we will get everything we want. we need to have godly desires
c u all soon :)
Amen to what Mr. Cox said. that is soo true .
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
That he protect and care for me during the good and bad times, he wont let me fall.and if i do he helps me up.
That we all in to sin and temptation that since the Lord is with us always that he loves us and will be there for us.
Going to the lake @ 2 pray for our safty !! Thx
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
this is such a comforting passage :) God is following us 100 % of the time, when we are stressed at school, being persecuted, in need of help, God is always there! Even though we live in a “dark” world we shouldnt be afraid!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
God is our protector and leads us we are the sheep and He is the shepard!
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
He leads me to the best and makes sure I am taken care of.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
He took me in after I repented. He guides me on the golden oath towards Heaven.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I shall not fear anything for God is always with me. He protects me and watches over me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
My cup overflows with love for you God for you are amazing.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
God will be with us 100% of the tume we are here on earth. After we have accepted God into our life we will have a spot in Gods House forever.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I love this psalm. I like this verse especially because it says that even in the worst of times (or even when your llife is in danger) God will still be there. This verse also praises God for comforting us (David) always.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
If we have our whole faith in Jesus Christ, then we can have complete confidence that our soul has been restored. I don’t know about anyone else, but that is really comforting to me :)…
Also, the Lord will lead us away from the sin and evils of the world, and we will be able to live our lives in purity. Great chapter today!
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
In this verse God’s goodness and love are chasing us down. It’s like you can look over your shoulder and see them there right behind you. They have your back!
Ben and I were praying this the other day about Revival Remix. We were praying that God’s goodness would go before us. That prayer was definitely answered! The Lord was so good to us! There were so many students and some of them showed an interest in becoming Christians or coming to True North!
Whatever we have to do today, we can know that God’s goodness goes before us!
Spread the Word about Psalm 23! Let’s get some comments on here today!
Hey everyone! I like verse 4:
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Even though we live in a world where people hate the LORD and anyone who serves Him, we have no reason to fear. God is always with us and he will protect us. This is such a comforting verse. I need to trust in God with my whole heart and I need to realize that there is absolutely no reason for me to fear man because I have the LORD as my shield.
Revival Remix was awesome!!! :D
1. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
I often overlook this verse in this chapter. I mean its the first sentence, but yet i seem to move past it very quickly. The LORD is my shepherd….. why do I look past that! Its because was reading it, not listening to what it had to say. The LORD guides us! He is our protection! A sheep without a shepherd is likely to be attacked by a wild animal! When we aren’t looking to our Shepherd, we will be attacked by the world and by satan. We are attacked, but our amazing Shepherd is there and He helps us through it and He protects us!! Thank you LORD!
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This verse reminds me of the chorus of the worship song “better is one day”. The chorus goes, “better is one day in your courts than thousands elsewhere.” Well that’s totally true! And here in this verse it talks about how we won’t be there for only one day, but forever! And not just that, but goodness and love will follow us for the rest of our lives! What a great promise that is!
Ryan I enjoyed your comment. That is exactly what I think every time the Bible compares us to sheep. I know that I am stupid and defenseless. I look back on things I have done and thought, “What in the world was I thinking?!?!”
Praise God I don’t have to live this Christian life on my own! God is my shepherd. He leads me and all I have to do is follow. This reminds me of John 10 where Jesus says that he is the shepherd and if we are his sheep we will hear his voice. I was reminded last night at Revival Remix how great a sacrifice it was for Jesus to die for me. In John 10 Jesus says that he has to lay down his life for his sheep. Jesus died so he could save stupid, defenseless me! What an AWESOME God we serve!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This verse dosen’t really have that much deep meaning to post on, but it should be the cry of every Christian’s heart. It is a passage of true faith, real love and power recieved form GOD. It is not only beautiful, but also an example of what a believer should feel about GOD.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
My favorite christain song was made from this song. Its comforting to know that when we are going through hard times God is always there for us. I need Him more than anything.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
lead us to the cross so that we may follow you through everything. God help us to lead others to you to worship you and everything you do.
When we follow God he leads us his way and towards the rightous path..
and when it says when we’re going into the meadows of death that means that we’re following the path of Satan and going in sin..
and thats why God wants us to follow him so we can be with him forever..and not Satan
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
these verses are great because they but the focus on God, and not ourselves. in our salvation, it is not us who do it, but God. without His restoration and regenration of our fallen hearts and souls, we have no inclination whatever to obey God (Romans 3:10-18). it is by His grace alone that we are saved and regenarate, without Him we are hopeless and lost. the second part of this verse talks about how He guides us in righteousness for His Name’s sake. He guides of through His Word, and also for His glory. we are to live lives that glorify God, not ourselves. if we are Christians, we will be living to please and glorify Him, and not living for the things of the world and ourselves.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
While it is true that we are in a war with sin our entire life. Our whole entire Christian walk is not going to be a war, however. Like this verse says, goodness and love will be with us. He will cal us, he will rescue us, he will save us; all we have to do is trust in him.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
This verse reminds me to never fear, because the Lord is always with me. He will protect me from everything because He is powerful and mighty!!
I loved Ryan Cox’s comment! I didnt really know sheep were stupid! haha
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
We have no reason to fear anything but God! I have learned that no matter what i have to trust in God because he has his whole plan laid out for me. No evil can overtake me when i have God by my side.
I love verse 4, I used to struggle with fear when I was younger and my parents would always say that I was in sin, but I never understood. When I got older I read this verse and realized that I shouldn’t be afraid because my God is always with me.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
This verse is so promising! Even though we are surrounded by a world that puts money, sex, and popularity as their top priorites, God is with us and he will sanctify us and draw us away from the worldly priorities. David is so true when he says “I will fear no evil”, I remember when I first repented and put my faith in Christ, I felt fearless and didn’t care if I died because I knew that to die is gain! I want to continue to live a life with God by my side to sustain me.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I sometimes struggle with worrying, and like Brennan said, that is definitely a sin because I am not trusting God. When I worry I am doubting either God’s power or His promise to work everything out for my best. I really need to stop this, because God is so great and Has everything under control and is so loving and promises to take care of me. I can’t stress no matter what is going on, but rather I should rejoice and praise Him because I know that whatever happens He will be faithful to take care of me according to His good purpose.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake
The Lord guides us through righteousness in and for His names sake. We need to live our lives out to only glorify the Lord. It makes me feel so good to know that the Lord is guiding me to righteousness.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
We should not fear ANYTHING because we are in Gods hands and if we trust him He will guide us along the way and comfort us every step of the way
he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
the Lord our God restores our soul, no matter how much hurt, or pain or betrayal, he restores us. The Lord protects us and sanctifys us everyday and he blesses us and helps us to forgive. I pray that i can trust in him everyday to trust in him to protect me and everyone in my life and that no matter what we go throuth that we can ALWAYS trust in him.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
He just loves us too much, our cup overflows. :)
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want
Because God is so great we really don’t need anything else; if we die we are home with the Father. Me like most of you aren’t dead which means that God has a purpose for us. To complete that calling God provides everything we need if we know it or not. This verse is just very awesome to remember that God is all I need. LORD please let me remember this at all times and rely on You.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
The only thing or person to fear is God. It’s better to fear God knowing He determines if we go to Heaven or hell and controls everything else and has power over everything and everyone, compared to things evil can only do to us in this world.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
This encourages me to praise God for His discipline in my life. Even though dicipline hurts and is not fun I need to remember that it is not only God’s way of showing His love for me, but it also is healthy and good for me. So next time I feel like I am being disciplined by God I will have faith in His goodness and be comforted :)
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
God guides us in doing good things to glorify his name ever more. He deserves so much praise and so much honor and doesn’t get enough of it from the people that walk on earth. I pray not just that we worship God when we sing praises on the weekends, but that we live LIVES of worship.
man….I’ve missed this website soooo much! yaaaaaaaay to me being back on! It’s so much harder to post a comment now that there’s one comp for six people! XD wellll hoooowday dooooo to ya’ll! :D
This has got to be one of my favorite Psalms…it alllways puts a smile on my face because 1. it has that song that I loooove in it that I can’t for some reason remember what it’s called right now. “WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS” that’s it! and 2. It reminds me of how God guides me everyday and does not let me stray to far from the path of righteousness before whipping me back into shape and back on the path of awesomeness…aka eternal life. 3. It reminds me of how God is allllways good, just as we said at Revival and how He’ll always be good to His followers which, I happen to be one of them! It’s just an altogether encouraging Psalm that I’m always able to take something from, no matter how many times I read it. David may have written it on paper, but God is the brains behind it and He realllly is the author of this beautiful Psalm! :D
heyy!!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.—It is so sad that people do not follow God like their shepherd! It’s the best thing for us to do because God only leads us on the right paths and no place where there will be evil! I am going to only follow the LORD and no one else!! I am going to stay concentrated on what He wants us to do and not what the evil world is telling me!! i will not give in!!
revival remix was of the chain! great message pastor bobby!! (:
hope to see everyone this weekend!
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
I really like this verse. What a lot of people dont realize about living a Christian life is that it is rewarding. Maybe not right away, but it certainly is. Some people think that “not being able to” swear or watch or do inappropriate things is “no fun” and sad. People think we are missing out on life, but really they are missing their purpose in life. It took me a while to understand this, but after a while i realized that i wasn’t making these life changes because i felt like i “had to”, but because i wanted to. When you love someone, doing what they want makes you happy. :)
Psalm 23:1 “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.”
The Lord is our shepherd! He guides us through all things whether they be valley of the shadow of death or along still waters (thats cool). Not only that, but he also equips us with everything good for doing his will (wow). We shall never be in want because we trust that in Christ God will work through us what is pleasing to him.
“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen”(Hebrews 13:20-21).
That connection is awesome! The great Shepherd of the sheep (thats us). I agree with everyone else Psalm 23 is awesome. It clearly illustrates our need to trust fully in the guidance and instructions of our Savior, the great Shepherd of the sheep.
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
He restores my soul. i feel like i am being overcome by laziness and that laziness is destroying me it feels like. its sooo hard right now to know that God still loves me just the same as one of His children. i am soo glad that He does restore my soul…i need it. please pray for me
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
I love it how God is guiding me in paths of righteousness. This verse comforts me knowing that my Lord is there for me.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I know a lot of people commented on this verse. Great comments! Even if we walk in the shadow of death, God is still with us no matter what. This is so comforting. God is light and perfection and holiness. He drives off all evil. We’re not to fear evil because God is always with us. He will never abandon us and He is the only one we can count on for that.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Amen! I can’t wait until I go to heaven. That will be the greatest moment ever!!!
The Lord is my shepherd
Many people have mentioned this and I would agree. The analogy used as the Lord being our shepherd is so perfect to describe our relationship between God and us. The shepherd oversees, protects, watches, guides, feeds, rescues, saves, etc…and the sheep wander, are stubborn, smell, are stupid, follow, etc…When I think of the Lord as my shepherd I am so comforted because I know that he is acting in my life in all these different ways. When I am lost he rescues me, when I am hurt he saves me, When I am hungry he feeds me, when I am walking he guides me. God is so good to his children even when we are so undeserving. Just like sheep we need our shepherd to keep us walking the right way always pointing us in the right direction.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
Wow! the second part of this verse really stood out to me! “I shall not be in want.” If we have the Lord guiding us, and protecting us through our hardships, then what else could we possibly want or need!? God is all we need in hard times. He is guiding us, as though we are dumb sheep, which we basically are in his eyes. Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” We need to have the same attitude that David had!!!!
cant wait for true north this weekend :-)
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
“He restores my soul! I love that. No matter how many times we have been broken, the Lord will restore us. He guides us in his will. That is also comforting to know that i am walking on the path of righteousness because for his sake. He helps us to go where he wants us to.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
This verse speaks for itself. There are so many comforting things here. Though we are stuck in this world of darkness, and are forced to deal with it each and everyday, the Lord is always with us, comforting us. Love it!!
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
What an amazing psalm. What’s there to say about it except that it is something we should meditate on constantly, day and night. The Lord will guide us through this life as the blind sheep that we are, and whoever puts his trust in Him will no longer walk alone through the dark. It was so amazing and inspiring to hear one of my friends come up to me after Revival Remix and say “I’ve found Jesus.” Truly the Lord works in all our lives to guide us, and each sheep that is returned to the flock is a cause for celebration.
So even though this life is like walking through the valley of the shadow of death, we who are saved know that the Lord is with us at all times, and will never leave nor forsake us.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
How awesome is that? David knew that his relationship with God would keep him from being in want. God provides all we need and guides us. He has given us His Word to tell us how to live and follow the example of Christ. As the verse says, the LORD is my shepherd, and that gives and image of what shepherds do. They guide and protect their sheep and I can trust in Him for that!!
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
What does this verse mean? First of all, through all the trials we experience were it seems like we just can’t go on, God is with us. Not only is he with us, but in his role as a shepherd, his rod and staff are symbols of his power. His power provides us with comfort. Secondly, we don’t always know when we have just had a near death experience. Even in those times when we didn’t even know that we could have died, God protects us. Sometimes, it feels like “the valley of the shadow of death” just to tell somebody about Jesus. I mean, it’s hard just to walk up to somebody and start witnessing. But don’t get nervous or afraid. In those times, God is there. He will give you even more help and comfort because you will be obeying his command. Witnessing to others should be easier if we just remember that God is right there beside us.
this is probably the most famous psalms in the bible. Lets see where to start…
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
This really captures the feeling of being filled with the Holy Spirit. When we let God in our lives, everything else we used to desire (worldy things) suddenly become pointless. The Lord calms us and helps us to live a righteous life for “His name’s sake”. This shows that we should want to be righteous not to make ourselves look better, but because it pleases God.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
This is another famous verse that shows how the Lord’s presence casts away any fear or doubt in our lives, even though we live in an evil, death filled place (the world). It is so amazing to know that God strengthens us and guides us in the face of persecution and suffering.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
I’ve been trying to think about the combination of these verses today. They seem to be pretty opposite; one paints the more serene of pictures (green pastures/quiet waters), while the other is much more dark (valley of the shadow of death). However, they both have one thing (and the most important thing) in common. In both places the Lord is my shepherd.
And that is why “I don’t want”; that’s why I can be content. My peace, my joy, and my satisfaction are not based upon whether I am in green pastures or in the shadow of death, they are based upon whether or not I can say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” I need to remember this when I am tempted to base my happiness on my circumstances.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
This was the first chapter of the Bible I ever memorized, yet every time I read it something new stands out. I love this verse because it gives me comfort that God will always protect his people. As a Christian, I am a part of his flock and he will lead me and protect me.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
In God my soul can be completely satisfied. Sometimes I get distracted by sins of discontent, jealousy, comparing, idols or just being ungrateful. This Psalm is a picture of how steady and content the psalmist was in the Lord leading him. What a great reminder for me today–I don’t need to worry, want or fear!
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
It is so awesome that God wants what’s best for us. I’m so glad that he has a plan for my life, and that it is the best plan for my life. this reminds me of my dad. he wanted to become a doctor, but because of affirmative action on a test, he wasn’t accepted into a program, and someone that got a lower score than him took his place. however, what God did for him in his life is far better than what he had planned.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
God will always be with us wherever we go and whatever we do!!! Sometimes we become afraid when we face something that is overwhelming in life, but we should always look to God and he will comfort us and be there for us 24/7!!!!!!
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
So this verse really took some thinking to try to really wrap my mind around it…What do shepherds do? well that is answered in the verses to come they lead, protect, comfort…so if we take that information and put it together with the second part of the verse we find that there is no reason to be in want because God is in control…we don’t have to worry about anything because God’s will will be done.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me
no matter where i go and no matter how much danger is out there the Lord has always got my back.
Psalm 23
This psalm brings back a lot of memories. Adam D. you are totally right by saying that we should meditate on this psalm constantly, day and night. In fact this psalm is a pattern for prayer to encourage every believer in their relationship with God and their experiences in God. The Good Shepherd provides for us, he renews our strength, he guides us along the right paths and he protects and comforts us. I would encourage everyone to meditate and pray this psalm. Christ was the ultimate good shepherd that lay down his life so we may live in Him. Praise God!
John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
REVIVAL REMIX was SICK IT’S SICK
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
this is such a well known verse and yet i dont take the time to truely think about what this means! when i take the time to completely trust in the fact that God is always goiing to be there to take care of me and show me His love while i go thru the hardest parts of my life. i have nothing to fear and that should change my life and how i go thru it completely!
