Psalm 22

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

22:1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
and by night, but I find no rest.

Yet you are holy,
enthroned on the praises of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they cried and were rescued;
in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
“He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”

Yet you are he who took me from the womb;
you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
10 On you was I cast from my birth,
and from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
11 Be not far from me,
for trouble is near,
and there is none to help.

12 Many bulls encompass me;
strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
13 they open wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.

16 For dogs encompass me;
a company of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and feet—
17 I can count all my bones—
they stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.

19 But you, O Lord, do not be far off!
O you my help, come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dog!
21 Save me from the mouth of the lion!
You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen!

22 I will tell of your name to my brothers;
in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
the affliction of the afflicted,
and he has not hidden his face from him,
but has heard, when he cried to him.

25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
my vows I will perform before those who fear him.
26 The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
May your hearts live forever!

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.

29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
even the one who could not keep himself alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him;
it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
that he has done it. (ESV)

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    Well i have been praying all night that i can trust in God with my life right now because there are so many things going on and its definatly a temptation to start worrying but then i got on my computer and decidded to read SOTD and the first like 10 verses are about trusting God. What a coinsedence. I need to trust God with everything i have and know that he will never disappoint me because no matter what happens i will know that it is the will of God!

    11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

    God, please dont be far from me right now. For me in my life there could be “trouble” near and so i need to be closest to God more than anyone!

    14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.

    Well first of all, my bones feel terrible right now because i am injured and then i read the part where is says “my heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me” That kind of describes the way i feel. I just feel it sinking but i know that God will provide and let his will be done.

  2. Ryan Cox says:

    I simply love how so many if David’s Psalms begin in anguish, fear, worry, doubt, etc…, yet by the end if each Psalm he’s praising God with all he’s got…& boldly proclaiming how he’s gonna tell OTHERS about God’s goodness, too. This Psalm, also, turns around in verse 18 with the word “but.” Even though he still pleads God to provide protection & deliverance, he goes on to boast of how future generations will hear of God’s great works & will serve Him–that’s us! Now we need to do exactly the same for those generations to come after US…

  3. John K says:

    can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.

    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.

    In the first half of the Psalm David is feeling like God has abandoned him, forsaken him, left him for dead among the lions and big bulls of Bashan. Sounds like a really bad day. Yet despite all his feelings of fear and despair David is still confident that the Lord will deliver him. In life there are many scary situations, we all have trials and tribulations, we just need to remember that the Lord is always near, and we can give all of our worries and anxieties to God. I need to pray to God and rely on him and his strength to carry me through my trials and tribulations.

  4. Pastor Bobby says:

    REVIVAL REMIX TONIGHT!!! It is not too late to invite your friends so go for it True North! And don’t just invite them, make sure they get to our church. In-N-Out is going off at 6:30…I’d get there at 6 if I were you!

    I am praying God will draw students to himself tonight and use us to do it! I’m praying he’ll use you to bring your friends and he’ll use me to preach the gospel to them. Please pray for my sermon on God’s love for us in Jesus Christ from Romans 5:6-8. Pray that people will get saved tonight!

    This chapter is all about David’s suffering but it is also a prophecy about the death of Jesus Christ! Jesus confirms this when he quotes the first verse of this psalm in Matthew 27:46. Obviously Jesus’ death was painful physically, but even more we can see the anguish in his spirit when he says:

    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?

    God didn’t save Jesus on the cross. Instead, he poured out all of his wrath for our sin on him. Jesus had to die in this terrible way so that we could be saved! This is a great example of God’s wrath and hatred for sin. It is also the greatest example of his love for sinners like us, that he would send his Son to take our place! Praise God for his love and I am excited to celebrate it and share it with others tonight at Revival Remix!

    Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  5. Beth Lauder says:

    The same thing stood out to me, Ryan Cox…David starts off many of his psalms crying out to the LORD in deep anguish, yet by the end he is always praising God for who He is and what He has done. I just love the psalms because they show us that it is not a sin to cry out to God in our hurt, despair or concern. As long as we are not complaining about our circumstances God wants us to cry out to Him and present our requests to Him. As I read David’s prayer in Psalm 22 it reminded me of Philippians 4:6-7. David was not being anxious, but instead he was presenting his requests to God with thanksgiving. God responds to David by giving him His peace, not necessarily delivering him from all his enemies at that instant. Thank you God that you are always there for me when I am feeling surrounded by temptation and difficult circumstances. Please help me have the attitude of David and cry out to you with thanksgiving!

  6. Elise says:

    29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him— those who cannot keep themselves alive.

    What an awesome Psalm! This verse really stood out to me because its talking about the future! All of the rich- obviously not in money, but in Christ- will feast and worship in the presence the Lord forever! However, all who go down to the dust will be on their knees in awe of the Lord. Those are the people who presently trust in themselves. They think that by doing a certain amount of good deeds, they will be able to cancel all of their sins and secure for themselves a place in heaven. If this were possible, Jesus Christ, the son of God, would not have had to come and die on a cross.
    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
    This psalm gives so many examples of how repentance and faith are the only things that the Lord will accept and credit righteousness. For those of us who have been undeservingly credited righteousness: we need to be praying Maranatha! Until the Lord comes back or we die, we need to be EVANGELIZING! A perfect opportunity is through Revival Remix tonight!! Keep it in your prayers and I’ll see y’all tonight!

  7. Ben Blakey says:

    I should not be able to read this Psalm without thinking of the Gospel.

    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    These verses remind me of what happened to Jesus on the Cross, and they make me think of the lyrics to “Praise to Jesus Christ”, which talk about Christ being forsaken and pierced for OUR sin.

    22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
    23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!

    As I’m reminded of what Christ did for us on the cross, I want my response to be one of praise, worship, and thankfulness. I want to be thinking about God and thanking him all through the day, and I’m excited to worship with everyone at REVIVAL:REMIX tonight!!!

  8. Maddie Nadeau says:

    This is an awesome Psalm! i love this Psalm because in the beginning, he is worried that God has forsaken him. He is feeling abandoned, and he feels like God can’t hear his prayers. He speakes about the anguish he is in, the horrible suffering he has been put through. But as he goes on, he gains trust in God. He speaks of how he has been under God since birth “10. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.” He asks God to help him, and to not be far from him, he asks God for his help and he gains faith in him. It’s a beautiful thing how he gains SO MUCH faith in God. By the end of the Psalm, he trustsin the Lord with everything he’s got. I pray that we can have that much faith in God everyday.

  9. NEW BLOG- God’s Stepping Stones, click on my name :))

    Tonight is REVIVAL REMIX…make sure to bring EVERY high schooler you know so that they can hear the Gospel!!! See yall there!

    Alright now to this Psalm, how I love the Psalms because they are so REAL! This is totally how I sound in times of distress or when I feel like God is far off and not answering my prayers. But we can learn from the Psalmists response to these times of spiritual depression by seeing how they remind themselves of the Truths of Scripture, of the faithfulness of God and the power of His strength…for He is mighty! We should always be crying out to the Lord, even when we don’t “feel” like He is right there we know the TRUTH and that He will never leave or forsake us (Joshua 1:5, Hebrews 13:5) and we can find comfort and peace in that!!

  10. Da Mixmasta says:

    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?

    Who can disagree with this prophecy? Anyways, Christ took on the full wrath of the Father for us who cannot do anything but sin. Now that is true love.

  11. michelle [maranatha] 2010 says:

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

    Personally, i would be really glad if people mocked me by saying this! Yes, it would be persecution, but to a Christian, we should praise God for persecution! Wouldn’t it be great if people around school knew you as the ‘Christian’ or the ‘fanatic’…

    12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.

    13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me.

    There are many temptations surrounding us. There are people around us who are trying to bring us away from Christ!And you know what?That is mr.satan trying to do his job. But lets remember that God is the ultimate King, and that with God all things are possible, so lets make sure that we stand ready for any temptation! Remember not to be unequally yolked. Let that stand firm and really apply it to our lives. Not only with a spouse/boyfriend or girlfriend, but with friends! Make sure we surround ourselves with Christian friends who wont be like roaring lions and bulls!

    Father God, let us apply your words to our lives. I cannot do it alone, so, Lord, I pray that you guide me in the path of your love and your perfect will for me. I pray that you will provide me with people to share your gospel to and i pray that you would provide me with more solid Christian friends who i can fellowship with so that i may learn more about you. I praise you for being the Mighty Ruler over all things and i pray that i wont take your love for granted. Lord i pray Maranatha! Amen.

    MARANATHA

  12. Mike says:

    27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.

    There will come a time when everyone from every nation will bow down and acknowledge the power and deity of Christ. Some, like this verse says, will have heard the truth and turned to Him. But the others have nothing to look forward to except Judgement. We all know many of such people; but are we caring for them enough to tell them the truth of the Gospel? If we are putting our own selfish comfort above the priority of evangelism, we are in essence condemning the souls of those we come into contact with. We might be the only Christians in their lives right now, so are we taking our mission (Matthew 28:19-20) seriously?

  13. ♫ І€ƒƒ€ñ ♫ says:

    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.

    This is a pretty simple (but still profound) statement, but many people struggle accepting it as truth. And even many who know it to be true still refuse to surrender to God. All power belongs to God and He rules over all of the nations. Many love to think that they are in control of what’s going on. Some foolishly believe that they actually have power and that they are the boss of their own life. They are flatout wrong! God is the Sovereign Lord over all of creation. He controls all and holds the power to do whatever He wants with anything. We are not controlling our own lives, but instead we are God’s creation. He is our Superior and the One that we are made to live for. People need to recognize that they aren’t in control, and then turn to God in complete surrender, giving up all that they are for Him. I need to never get caught up in what I think I might be able to do on my own, but instead always rely upon the amazing power of the LORD Almighty!

  14. P.J. says:

    Whoa, this chapter was intense. At first, David thought God was far from him, he was being persecuted and for 9 verses he tells of his deep anguish. The chapter reminded me of Job, how he had to suffer greatly, but in the end God saved him and blessed him greatly.

    “You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!”

    I hope that we’re all still remembering Bobby’s sermon at Beach Night on how we should fear the Lord and that Jesus will spew you out of his mouth if you are lukewarm. The Jesus depicted in Rev. 1:13-16 is terrifying, and we need to all be reverent of Him. We are called to fear him who after destroying the body, can cast us into eternal punishment. I want to fear the Lord and gain knowledge and wisdom through that fear!

  15. Brooke Miller says:

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

    Yeah Michelle! That would be awesome! As Christians, we will be persecuted. This passage is just great, and its a motivation for me to get out there and talk to as many people this year, and for people to see that I am a Christian on fire for Christ!

  16. Nachooooooooooo says:

    4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    It is such a blessing to have a God in whom we can put our complete trust. He will never fail us. Whatever it is that we are going through, we need to remember that God is in control.

  17. Alyssa K says:

    24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.

    This reminds me of how God does not desert you in times of need or trouble and he hears all cries for help. I love how God is always aware–like Ben in Sunday’s message was saying we need to be. Also, because God always hears our cries and sees our suffering, we should know that he always has a plan and as he is aware of whatever our situation is, he is aware of what he is doing in our lives.

  18. Jessica K says:

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

    This reminds me of how important it is to place our trust in the Lord. If we trust in Him, we need not fear anything. We should only fear God. This verse also reminds me a bit of psalm 37:4.

    27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,

    I love this vers because it reminds us of how awesome it will be when everyone knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is God. Overall, this psalm is important for the reasons most people already mentioned–how David starts out crying out to God and ends up praising Him. We need to remember to still praise God in our worst of times.

  19. Billy Morris says:

    4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.

    I love the fact that we can trust in God 100 percent. Many times when I trust another person, they either don’t follow through or I begin to loose my trust in them. But with God, my trust in him will never fail because he promises in the end of verse four that he will deliver….

  20. Jackson Dahl says:

    22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.

    Though David has gone through countless suffering because of his faith in the Lord, he still shares the word of God with everyone and praises him countlessly! Talk about extreme faith! David knows that in the end God’s plan will work out and that God will provide for him. I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely need to work on trusting God as much as David does!

  21. Ian H. says:

    4 “In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.”

    Of all the examples of people in the Bible who lived in ages past, was any one of them disappointed when they trusted in God? No. They trusted the Lord and He came through for them. Think about Abraham: God just came to him one day and basically said “Leave your home and march across the desert to this new place that I have prepared for you.” That would have been crazy! But Abraham trusted God, and in the end, he was all right! Like him and all the other people of faith we learn about in the Bible, we need to be trusting God also. In fact, I think it would be downright foolish not to. Let’s remember that He has a good plan for every one of His people, and despite what it may seem at times, He will work that plan out to completion.

    27 “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.”

    Another point–and this can go hand in hand with what I just said: God is in control. “Dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations,” as verse 28 says. This is just one more reason why we should trust Him. If He is ultimately in charge of everything, then-I hope-we should want to be on His side. We can and should rely on Him, not only for eternal salvation, but for everything else.

  22. Nicholas Bonetto says:

    I like Psalm 22:4, “In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.”

    This is a powerful verse, I can fully trust in the LORD knowing He will save me and do His will with me. But this is also a very difficult verse for some people, for an example, my grandpa, he wants to believe, but it is so hard for Him. It is hard to put your full trust in anything, and I think that’s why so many people have a hard time trusting in God. I need to improve to trust God in every situation, and to make this point clear to whoever I teach it to.

    Psalm 22 . . .

    “22. I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.”

    Even though David was totally beat up and tortured, he still kept his faith strong in the Lord. No matter what the troubled time was, he never gave up in Him and continued his walk stronger then ever. That’s how we need to be. Sharing the gospel and declaring the Lord and what He’s done for us. This verse says, “in the congregation” meaning in church, we will praise His name and be thankful for His SALVATION.

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    I love this verse! “They cried to you and were saved” reminds me of personally when I got saved, when I realized I was going to hell and I cried out to God to save me! How did God save them, they trusted in the Lord! When we trust in the Lord, there is not going to be disappointed because God saves and we’re not putting our trust in something that is questionable or shaky!

  25. melissa says:

    Wow, I really need to be more like David when I am in troubling times. When I have something bad going on in my life, I go to a friend for help first. I need to go to God first, because I can trust Him and He will answer. I can’t put all my trust in my friends, because they don’t always follow through. But in God we can ALWAYS trust :)

  26. Brett *2010* says:

    5.) They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    What an awesome verse! Just like KJ said, this reminds me of when I got saved…my life was headed the wrong way, then God got ahold of my heart and I turned to Him. I am so thankful for this, praise God for all the lives He has saved, and keep praying that more will be saved!

  27. MG says:

    This psalm is portrait of David’s suffering and also a prophecy of what Christ would endure for us. As I read this psalm it makes me aware of how often God uses suffering for a purpose. Obviously, we know the purpose of Christ’s suffering but often, it can be difficult to find the purpose in our own suffering. I love how David always trusts in God through the difficult times. I may not always know why God has allowed pain in my life but I definitely want to trust Him as I go through it; knowing that He is refining me through my suffering and conforming me more and more into His image.

  28. Chelseaaaaaa says:

    26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him— may your hearts live forever!

    We will be satisfied in the Lord God Almighty forever.

  29. Christa Blakey says:

    3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel.

    4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.

    These two verses really stood out to me because David is not focusing on how distraught he is he says, “Yet you…” and focuses on God, who he is and what he has done. Sometimes when I am discouraged I focus on myself or the situation, but if I said, “Yet you, God…” and praised him for how he is the king enthroned over all and how he has a perfect track record of coming through for all who trust in him, I would get out of that discouragement fast! I’m going to remember this Psalm and have the attitude that David has here, dwelling on God not myself or my circumstances today.

  30. Dan Lauder says:

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

    Though David had his opposition, his opposition would admit openly that David was all about trusting in the LORD. Trusting in God so characterized David’s life that everyone around him knew it. What an example to learn from and try to emulate. I pray that my life would be so characterized by trusting God that everyone around me would know it.

  31. Francesca says:

    Hey everyone, I like verse 5:

    “They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.”

    When I need help with something, I wanna go to the LORD. God will not disappoint us if we cry out for His help. This verse encourages me to go to Him whenever I have problems because He will not let me down. I need His help and I need to trust in Him with every single thing that happens to me. He is in control and He will not let me down.

    See you all tonight! :)

  32. hunter 2010 says:

    Wow, everyone’s comment’s are sooo good! Praise God for speaking through SOTD!

    I love how this chapter has the prophecies about Jesus’ crucifiction, let’s remember this chapter when we are witnessing so that we can prove the diety of Jesus and the validity of the NT to Jews!

    2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent.
    3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel.

    Like many have said, it seems to David that God has rejected him and will not answer his cries for help. But we know from history (1 Sam.16 :12-13) that David was the Lord’s anoited king of Isreal and that David had the Holy Spirit with him. In the same way we as NT believers can have the same hope and confidence as David because we are accepted because of Jesus. In Christ, the Father sees us as His childern, instead of our sin He sees the holiness of Jesus, and instead of our mortality He sees us as the anoited hiers of eternal life. God is our complete strength and we can have confidence in that!

  33. josh says:

    15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.

    16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. david is in pain and is hated by a lot of people. he still trusts in God to save him. i need to work on trusting in God for everything and to be joyfull when going through trials.

  34. Brennan says:

    This chapter is perfect for me to read today, I was suffering and I didn’t understand why but after I went through it I realized that good came from it and I benefited it from it and now I know whenever I’m going through something hard Godhas good intentions for it.

  35. Murphy Danahy says:

    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    Remind you of someone else? JESUS CHRIST went through the same struggles as David, although JESUS’s were much more difficult, and this passage describes almost exactly what happened to CHRIST. I wonder if they were going through the same thing or if this is a prophecy or prediction.

  36. Melissa Cox says:

    I have also (like many of you) been thinking about how the psalms go from distressed and near death to contentedly waiting on the Lord. When I’m stressed out or have a major problem in my life, I need to make that same progression…pour my heart out to the Lord, trust Him and wait for Him to help me, and praise His name no matter what.

  37. Shelby says:

    What stood out to me was that it is so easy to feel Gods love when everything is going right but when we feel weak and down and basically horrible we need to remember that God is still there and he still loves us even at our weak moments. When we go through tough times like David that is when we need to cling to the Lord!!! The Lord is our refuge he gave strength to David when he was weak!

    27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,

    What a great verse ^!!!!!

  38. Jasmine Wonton 2010 says:

    11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

    This is my prayer

    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    As alot of people are saying, this kind of reminds me of what they did to Jesus. Great comment Murphy- I wonder if it’s a prophecy or if it just ties in and correlates to Jesus.

    30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
    31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn— for he has done it.

    That’s awesome! Let’s all serve the one and only true living God! and tell everyone about the Lord for future generations

    26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him— may your hearts live forever!

    God does take care of the poor, the widowed, and the orphans. I like how this pslam David seems so weak and broken, lacking in strength but towards the end, he goes back to praising the Lord for all that He has done along with encouraging others to do the same.

  39. Eric Walker: Revival Remix TOMORROW!!!!!! says:

    12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.

    13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me.

    Just like David, we will be tried and persecuted as Christians. When we are persecuted or being tried by God, we need to put our trust in him and take refuge in him because without God, it will be impossible to withstand and take all of the trials and persecution that we will recieve as Christians. God is faithful and will help us when we cry out for him and put our trust in him. I know for me, I need to be praying every day for me to trust God with all of my heart and take refuge in him and not try to solve my troubles alone. God is Gooood and will help us!!!

  40. nicolee vanderlaann((: NO COMPROMISE! says:

    22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.

    aka SPREAD THE GOSPEL! TELL OTHERS ABOUT OUR LORD ALMIGHTY!
    that is the most important thing that all christians need to do, including myself.
    Please help me Lord to not be afraid of telling others about how amazing you
    are! You are all that matters!

    REVIVAL REMIX HERE WE COMEE!

  41. Riley Hancock says:

    we are called to worship you God and we should help people in need and spread your word around the world before your reterning for us.

    Hope to see you all at Revival Remix!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. Cameron says:

    27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.

    this passage here references the sovereignty of God and how He controls everything. though at the beginning of this passage David talks about how the Lord has forsaken him, that doesnt mean that God is actually removed and that He no longer is involved in davids life. rather, the Lord is in control of all things and He looks after His children. so while for a little we may feel alone, He is always there for us. it is a comforting thing to know that our God is sovereign and in control. though this world is ruled by Satan, who is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4) Satan will be vanquished and the Lord will be victorious. so while the world may seem like it is spinning out of control and satan is winning, it is all in the Lord’s control

  43. Sarah G.! says:

    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    Does this remind anyone of someone important?!?! JESUS CHRIST!! prophecyyyyyyyyy!! I’m lovin’ it!! It just reminded me of some special people at my school who do not believe that the bible is true…quite unfortunate, especially when they tell me that they have never read the bible! :O We have assurance in his word from prophecies like these!! I am unashamed of the gospel!! ;D

  44. laura johnson says:

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    “They cried to you and were saved” we don’t do anything to save ourselves, it’s all by Christ and what He has already done for us. We just need to respond to what Christ has done for us by repenting and putting our complete trust in Him. I’m praying tonight at Revival Remix people will hear the message and respond to it and cry out to the Lord for His help. I also like in this verse how it says “in you they trusted and were not disappointed” because whenever we fully trust in the Lord we will not be disappointed! see everyone at revival remix!

  45. PaYtOn :D says:

    Can’t wait for REVIVAL TONIGHT!!!

    The book of Psalm is such a great book to read.(well the whole Bible is) But I love Psalm and Proverbs.

    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?

    God is always with us and will never forget us or who we are. He created us and loves us, but if we deny Him and not accept Him as our LORD and Savior, we are going to get to heaven and the LORD is going to say He never knew us. Get to know God and give your life to HIM. YOU WONT REGRET IT!!! :]

    ***GOD IS THERE!!!***

  46. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read… SRY it took so long for me to post I was gone all day

    I like verse 24,”For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.”

    I like this verse because it tells that GOD never ignores what HIS people go through. If we die for HIM then we are rewarded accordingly, if we suffer for HIM then we are rewarded for that too. GOD never rejects what we do for HIM, HE always pays attention and will never abandon us.

    CYA

  47. Angela :) says:

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    The Lord haas given us so much mercy that we take for granted. He sent his one and only son to die for us and save us from our sin but we all still take that for granted, I know I do. But when we are crying out to God asking for forgivness and putting our lives in his hands we are saved, and he allows that!!! We trust in him and pray no matter what for but we always go to him, thats got to count for something, LIKE TRUST. You trust in the Lord and always go to him first with anything because he never disappoints you.

  48. Jake says:

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    This is a lot like Bobby’s sermon from tonight. We can do nothing to save ourselves because we were dead from our sin and someone had to die for us. We are so undeserving of what Christ did for us and we need to praise Him and completely trust in Him. If we completely trust in Him we will not be disappointed because He will always be there for us even though things may seem like they are going out of control.

  49. JeffModugno 2010 says:

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    This is a great verse. It showed me that I should be trusting in God and I will not be disappointed. Also we should be crying to God to hellp us all the time.

  50. Kelsey says:

    23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!

    This is a command, not just a praise to the Lord. It is a command to all of us. We need to honor the Lord. It is imperitave. I know that I often get caught up in day to day life and I am not paying enough attention to the fact that everything I do should honor the Lord. I need to keep that as a daily reminder.

  51. Matt Crichton says:

    16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.
    17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.
    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    I was so awestruck when I read these verses. These are prophesies that would be fufilled by the Messiah…and were fufilled by Jesus. The chances of one man doing all these things are so steep, not to mention the many others found in the New Testament alone. This was HUNDREDS of years before Christ! Thats so amazing. How great and mighty is our God who knows all things and sees all things: past, present and future.

  52. Allie Moorefield(: says:

    7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
    Since we are christians, we will go through times where we will be persecuted because of our faith. We will be mocked and made fun of but we need to be brave and stand up and fight for who we love and adore. We believe in Christ Jesus adn we need to act like that and we should NOT be ashamed for believing, trusting, and loving Him!
    11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
    We need to be close to God, so when we face obstacles and go through trouble, we will have God right by our side because besides God there is NO ONE to help!

  53. Ashlyn--:) says:

    17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.

    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

    i think this is soooo amazing! im pretty sure this was written down before it even happened right? that justs astounding to say the least!

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
    We who trust in the Lord have his helping hand forever, Jesus jumps infront of our bullots all the time, He is such an awesome God! HE delivers us from temptation everyday and has delivered us from the devil, i can not wait to see the place he has prepared for me in Heaven!

    Thank you Pastor Bobby for the awesome sermon tonight! I had a greattt time at revival remix!!!

  54. it's Daniel Yo! says:

    19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.

    I like this verse because David refers to God his “Strength”. There is no partiality in this statement. So basically David is calling the Lord what sustains him. Because you need strength to do a lot of things

  55. Sara L. says:

    24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.

    In times when it may seem as though God is absent from my life and is ignoring my prayers for help…I really must remember this passage. Too often I find myself worrying about things or being fearful of them…and then dwelling on them if something difficult happens. Then I am tempted to think that God is not paying attention. Really, I need to realize that I am the one at fault in those situations and I need to change by simply not worrying about things and recalling this verse…knowing that God is always there.

  56. Josh Crichton says:

    Wow…that is sooo cool. This psalm is one of David’s prayers to God. He was asking for deliverance, which God had not yet granted, from his enemies. There was sooo much parallelism to the crucifixion in this chapter that I could just not stop studying it. Let’s start in verse 1a.

    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

    Sound familiar?!?! Jesus quoted this verse while he was dying on the cross.
    Matthew 27:46 (New International Version) 46About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
    Jesus quoted David’s psalm while he was on the cross! I think that makes this verse legit. Also in verse 18 there should be some familiar things in it.
    18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
    This is the exact thing that the Roman soldiers did to Jesus in John 19: 23-24 on the day he died.
    John 19:23-24 (New International Version) 23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
    24″Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
    This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said,
    “They divided my garments among them
    and cast lots for my clothing.” So this is what the soldiers did.
    Ok prophecy anyone? And check out verse 22. This one was just an example of how many people quoted this psalm. Matthew and John did numerous times, but this is an example from the author of Hebrew, who is unknown.
    22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
    This was also quoted in Hebrews 2:12.
    Hebrews 2:11-12 (New International Version) 11Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12He says,
    “I will declare your name to my brothers;
    in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.”
    The key phrase is “my brothers…”. We are all brothers and sisters I Christ, and its time we all started to act like it! And the final key thing that I found was this: according to my NIV study Bible, no other psalm is quoted more frequently in the New Testament. So, I know this was long, but who ever read this I hope you got as much out of this chapter as I did!!!

  57. Katie Slusher says:

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

    What a mocking David receives! I want the non-believer to say this about me! I pray that I would be known to all (Christians and non-Christians alike) as someone who trusts in the Lord and in whom the Lord delights!

  58. Christopher Eriksen says:

    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?

    This psalm has a lot of parallels with Jesus’ life on earth, and like Bobby posted it’s actually prophecy. Especially after hearing the Revival Remix message, these verses really remind me of Christ’s sacrifice for us. Christ was humiliated and suffered so much, not only physically, but also was rejected by His own Father because He bore out sin. This just shows how much He really loved us, because we didn’t deserve anything but His wrath. And like David in this psalm, I need to be crying out for His power and deliverance in my life because although I am helpless, I know He loves me and promises to take care of me according to His will.

  59. Luke Skywalker says:

    19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
    24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.

    These verses tell us that Jesus is never far away. Although we may seem to be alone and our trials may just seem too big, God is always ready to help us. Pray for God’s help. Remember “ask and you shall receive.” Sometimes it is God’s will for us to endure trials; however, at other times, God is just waiting for us to ask for His help. Keep in mind that he will help you.

  60. Shane McCuistion 2010 says:

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    This verse just stood out to me as it says in you they trusted and were not disappointed It’s telling you that if you choose the Lord as your life then you will not be disappointed. I for sure am not disappointed that I gave my life to the Lord 3 years ago. I will never regret the day that I became a Christian. It is a tough life to live, but that day that I die I will truly know that I made the best decision that I could ever make in my life.

  61. Alison says:

    I thought it was interesting how much of this Psalm correlated with the crucifiction of Christ. From the very beginning “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (the same words that Jesus cried from the cross) and “people stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing” (the same things that happened to Christ). And yet David gives praise to God, just as Jesus does when he was risen. The Bible is consistant from beginning to end!

  62. Evan McKee says:

    5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

    It is so great that God gives salvation to anyone that accepts it. It is so amazing that he offers everyone a relationship with him if they accept christ. I trusted in God to save me and change my life, and like this verse tells me, I haven’t been dissapointed at all.

  63. 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him— those who cannot keep themselves alive.

    ok so the first part…Philippians 2:10-11 (New American Standard Bible)

    10so that at the name of Jesus (A)EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of (B)those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

    11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is (C)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    that basically sums it up…for part to I was reminded of something I heard Jon Foreman say… pharmacies are growing now a days with many people trying to keep themselves alive, basically live for ever….But we know that there is no drug on or off the market that can give us eternal life…..(that was totally a paraphrase)… What we know and believe as Christians is that through Christ can we truly have everlasting life…with the Father….(John 14:6)

  64. jordan anderson says:

    There are so many amazing things in this chapter. This guy is truly in a trial or dark place. He is asking the Lord to listen to his cries, he feels forsaken. This reminded me of Bobby’s sermon about God’s love. Im sure David didn’t feel God’s love at this time, but after reading the rest of the psalm i found that he knew God loved him. He was, still in his weakness and discouragement, completely faithful in the Lord. I want to trust like that! It is something that i am struggling with, and striving for in my life right now. This psalm was a real encouragement to me right now during this hard time.

  65. josh senger says:

    7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:

    8 “He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
    with school quickly aproaching i start to think abotu what conversations i am going to get into at school and that some of those will end with someone being mad at me for my belief in Christ and they will prob be mad at me for what i say about God.i need to start preparing myself and pray for the peopel that i am going to come into contact with. i am going to prepare myself for getting insulted beacause of God. cant wait!

  66. Rebekah Foreman says:

    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.

    Lord rules everything He is in charge of everything He made everything He is the best!! the Lord domininates the WORLD!!
