The Lord Is My Rock and My Fortress
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said:
18:1 I love you, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
4 The cords of death encompassed me;
the torrents of destruction assailed me;
5 the cords of Sheol entangled me;
the snares of death confronted me.
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears.
7 Then the earth reeled and rocked;
the foundations also of the mountains trembled
and quaked, because he was angry.
8 Smoke went up from his nostrils,
and devouring fire from his mouth;
glowing coals flamed forth from him.
9 He bowed the heavens and came down;
thick darkness was under his feet.
10 He rode on a cherub and flew;
he came swiftly on the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him,
thick clouds dark with water.
12 Out of the brightness before him
hailstones and coals of fire broke through his clouds.
13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens,
and the Most High uttered his voice,
hailstones and coals of fire.
14 And he sent out his arrows and scattered them;
he flashed forth lightnings and routed them.
15 Then the channels of the sea were seen,
and the foundations of the world were laid bare
at your rebuke, O Lord,
at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
16 He sent from on high, he took me;
he drew me out of many waters.
17 He rescued me from my strong enemy
and from those who hated me,
for they were too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
but the Lord was my support.
19 He brought me out into a broad place;
he rescued me, because he delighted in me.
20 The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all his rules were before me,
and his statutes I did not put away from me.
23 I was blameless before him,
and I kept myself from my guilt.
24 So the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25 With the merciful you show yourself merciful;
with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;
26 with the purified you show yourself pure;
and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.
27 For you save a humble people,
but the haughty eyes you bring down.
28 For it is you who light my lamp;
the Lord my God lightens my darkness.
29 For by you I can run against a troop,
and by my God I can leap over a wall.
30 This God—his way is perfect;
the word of the Lord proves true;
he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
31 For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God?—
32 the God who equipped me with strength
and made my way blameless.
33 He made my feet like the feet of a deer
and set me secure on the heights.
34 He trains my hands for war,
so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 You have given me the shield of your salvation,
and your right hand supported me,
and your gentleness made me great.
36 You gave a wide place for my steps under me,
and my feet did not slip.
37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them,
and did not turn back till they were consumed.
38 I thrust them through, so that they were not able to rise;
they fell under my feet.
39 For you equipped me with strength for the battle;
you made those who rise against me sink under me.
40 You made my enemies turn their backs to me,
and those who hated me I destroyed.
41 They cried for help, but there was none to save;
they cried to the Lord, but he did not answer them.
42 I beat them fine as dust before the wind;
I cast them out like the mire of the streets.
43 You delivered me from strife with the people;
you made me the head of the nations;
people whom I had not known served me.
44 As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me;
foreigners came cringing to me.
45 Foreigners lost heart
and came trembling out of their fortresses.
46 The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock,
and exalted be the God of my salvation—
47 the God who gave me vengeance
and subdued peoples under me,
48 who delivered me from my enemies;
yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me;
you rescued me from the man of violence.
49 For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations,
and sing to your name.
50 Great salvation he brings to his king,
and shows steadfast love to his anointed,
to David and his offspring forever. (ESV)

Ps 18:1-3 I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
Ps 79:9 Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.
Here’s a lasting truth: God saves us for His glory alone – He doesn’t do it because of our value. I’m grateful for that mercy! And I want to share that with others today!
Have a great week – I’ll be out of electronic range all this coming week so I’ll catch up with all your postings next Sunday! Please pray that God’s word is preached properly at Camp Tahquitz for the scouts and dads going and that Troop 12 is a testimony to those who don’t know God this week! For His glory alone!
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
OUr God is an awesome God and I am so thankful to be a child of God. Evangelism night was awesome last night. The gospel was preached and God was glorified. We know that his word does not return void, and we trust that God is doing a work in the people who heard truth last night. See you at Church, True North and then later at the Baptisms.
This morning Brad and I are discussing some of the attributes of God at breakfast.
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
One thing about God that is definitely worth thinking about is how he is perfect. He is holy in that he is without sin. He is just in that every judgment he makes is right.
32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
What’s really exciting is that as we know God and think about who he is, we become like him! God is perfect and he will make us like him in that way. He is our Heavenly Father and we will grow up to be like him as his children.
Let’s pray that God will give us the strength to be like him today!
See you at True North and baptisms…Double It Up! Praise the Lord for what he is doing at our church!
Don’t forget to invite your friends to Revival Remix Wednesday night at 6:30!
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
This verse is great! It makes sense David calls God his rock and fortress, in whom he takes refuge because this directly after he was delivered from Saul’s pursuit. David asked God and He answered. God is the unbreakable fortress because in him we can trust!
See everyone at Compass soon!
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
The is such anawesome verse! God is my rock, he is my firm foundation when things get tough, and he is my safe fortress for my protection. Only with Gods help are we truly saved. The Lord has forgiven us of our sins and has given me salvation.
34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
Here David is writing that God gives him strength. He talks about how he can do great things through the LORD’s power in him. In this verse, he writes that as he trains his hands for battle, he is able to bend a bronze bow. Bronze is a hard metal and can’t really be bent. Yet David writes of how through God’s power he can bend a bow of bronze. In reality, nobody can do anything good on their own, for everyone has turned away from God to living for themselves in sin. Yet God is all-powerful and forever strong and mighty. Through His great power can anybody do anything good. This is why I need to nto be overconfident in what I think I am good at or what I think I can do, for it is only through the LORD’s strength. I need to pray to God for strength, and when am able to do something good, I need to praise God and give all the glory and credit to Him.
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
i really love how even though this guy gains all this power, i think, he gives all the glory to God. In my life it should be the same way, when something good happens to me, i should give all the glory to God!
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
This verse just kind of sums up to me that God is my EVERYTHING.
20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
This is another awesome thing about being a righteous christian: we get rewarded for it! But if we arent righteous, God will “deal” willl deal with us in his own ways which sounds very scary to me.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
This verse sums up how God is our everything–He is the reason we are alive and without God, we are nothing. He is my Protector and Savior.
36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
This verse reminded me of how as Christians we are not supposed to follow the wide road well traveled but the narrow, less traveled road…which God will help lead us through.
Great comment Steffen!
48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.
50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
I love how this Psalm encompases David’s whole life as the anoited of the Lord to be king of Isreal. We can see that God was Daid’s continual strength for David’s entire life; from David’s youth as a harp player for king Saul to his leadership as king of Isreal in his old age, David never wavered in his faith in God’s divine protection and love. In every aspect of his life David gave God the glory for his acomplishments. Can we do the same? At the end of our lives can we say that “24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.”? Let’s be like David and find the source of our strength in God, obey Him through faith, and give Him the ultimate glory He deserves. Our God is great!
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me.
David was said by God to be man after His own heart. David was considered the greatest king of Israel. He was a sinner just like you and me he committed adultery. Why is he a man after God’s own heart? Whenever he fell into a pit of sin he immediately got right back up. He trusted the LORD with His whole heart and didn’t trust himself. He was a listener and a doer. Lord please let me be like David every day of my life.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 30,”As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.”
I like this verse because it tells of GOD’s protection for HIS people. We may not do the right thing always but even though we still struggle with sin GOD will protect us because HE loves us. HE holds it for everyone who takes refuge in HIM. HE will protect us from everything until HE calls us home to be with HIM forever.
CYA
I love David’s attitude in this psalm. God answered his prayers and rescued him. David took the time to really praise and thank God for his victory. So many times I thank God quickly for an answered prayer…what I need to do is follow David’s example, slow down, reflect, and take the time to truly thank and praise Him for what He’s done and who He is.
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
The Lord can do anything.
I need to think about this in my battles, whether I feel like I can win it or not. Usually when I ask God to help me or give me strength, it is after I am already in some trouble. I definitely need to ask Him for strength and wisdom BEFORE something happens, because maybe that might even prevent it from happening!
Hope to be more like Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus!
This passage is great. I love how a lot of the chapters in Psalms are about how God answers and hears our prayers. I think God is amazing because He can hear millions of peoples prayers and answer them too. And I think David is a great example for all of us. He is so confident in God that He will hear all of David’s prayers and answer them. I definitely need to be more like David. I need to know in my heart that God is hearing my prayer, that I am actually having a conversation with God.
6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
In times of trouble we need to call on the Lord! We need to pray! We just need to trust in the Lord that He will help us, that He would be our refuge. Even though times even though they might hurt, often times our relationship with the Lord will become stronger!
7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.
I am just thinking about earthquakes in the past that has happened. It could be that the Lord was angry like in verse He was and then it says the earth quaked! It’s just really interesting to me…
20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God.
Through those tough times that David was facing, He did not let His emotion get to him, I easily let my emotions get to me at sometimes! The Lord saw David’s righteousness and kept the ways of the Lord and the Lord rewarded David! This verse is a great encouragment to be righteous and live blamelessly like David did!
Psalm 18:16-21 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God.
When I read verse 16 I started singing the song: “Hes got the whole world in His hands,” and the even cooler thing is He has the universe and life and time in His hands. God is so great NOTHING can stop HIM!!! We we cry out to Him in our time of need, He hears us and will rescue us. God can handle ANYTHING! I mean He had to kill His own son with His wrath. He loves us through His son and remember that we are His sheep He looks after. God is so great that we need to call on HIM all the time! Talk to Him all the time! And LOVE Him all the time! I Like the first 3 verses of this chapter:
1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
THE LORD IS THE ROCK!!! In Philippians 4:13 it says that we can do anything with Christ, because He strengthens us. Also, in verse 2, it talks about how David takes refuge in GOD. In the past Psalms, I believe every time David shows that he takes refuge in GOD. I think David is trying to make a point that we too need to take refuge in God!
In verse 30:
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
Refuge(according to dictionary.com) means: a place of shelter, protection, or safety. David is so smart and is right. We need to take refuge in God, for He will protect and guard us.
***TAKE REFUGE IN THE LORD!!!***
29 With your help I can advance against a troop ; with my God I can scale a wall.
i lovee this versee, it reminds me that i can do anything through Christ. In hard or stressfl situations i need going ot God to be my first instinct. I have been working on putting Christ as number one in everything i do and seeing alll these verses is very encouraging! i know that if i ask and let Him Christ will walk me safly through my life
6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
GOD hears us when we cry out, he answers our cries of distress. When we are in trouble, he comforts us, in danger he protects us. He does so every day, night, and time. GOD is our comfort.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Wow! This is a really great psalm. The entire passage talks about how mighty and powerful God is. God delivered David from all of his enemies, including Saul, because David turned to God and trusted in the Lord to save and protect him. Just as this verse describes, the Lord is my refuge, my rock, my deliverer, my stronghold, my salvation, my shield. Who wouldn’t want to take refuge in that? This verse really reminds me of 2 Samuel 22:2. God is a fortress and a stronghold that will never let us go. God is faithful and will deliver us from sin but we need to trust in him and take refuge in him. The Lord is my refuge.
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.
These two verses stood out to me for it reminded me that we need to praise God ALL THE TIME. Even when things are bad, I know I can rest easy for God is somehow working something in my life to draw me closer to Him.
Verse 46 reminded me that God is my Rock which means that He is the stable point in my shaky human life and I can always cling on to Him whenever it seems as though the world is crashing down around my ears.
In verse 49, David is saying that he will , ‘. . .praise you among the nations,’ I interpreted this as David saying that he didn’t care what people thought of him for declaring his faith and love for God. This made me realize that I cannot be afraid of what my friends will think when I mention God or if I lose them as friends because of it. That is as bad as denying that I know God. God, help me to stand up for you in the face of my enemies even though it’s hard, because I know it is what you want me to do.
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.
This was a great reminder for me today to rejoice in the Lord always!! No matter how frustrating my sister may be, I still need to rejoice and be thankful for who God is and what he gives me!! Praise be to the Creator who gave me a twin sister!!
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me.
44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me.
45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
Yes! God has said yes to David’s prayers, and has delivered him from evil. This Paslm and the previous Psalms looked at together are sooo important. Of course we all know how important trusting God is, but sometimes we sin and don’t trust Him and worry or stress. But instead of worrying about it, David constantly and continually prayed for the Lord to deliver him form all of the bad things happening to him, and look what God did! He certainly heard David, and gave him what he asked for because he was clean before God. This is a situation we all need to look at, and keep in our brains forever!!
31 For who is God besides the LORD ? And who is the Rock except our God?
This verse is important because it reminds us about having idols put before us. We are commanded to have no idols, and God hates it when anybody disobeys one of his most important and crucial commands. Without God we would be nothing, and that would mean we value things higher than God, making them idols. We need to idolize the Lord!!!
This is such an excellent psalm…it shows how faithful God is to hearing our prayers
31 For who is God besides the LORD ? And who is the Rock except our God?
Like Billy said, we need to be sure we dont have idols in our lives. Idols can range anywhere from friends or sports…to self esteem and feelings. Idols are a big deal, and we need to be sure that we have none in the way of God. Like Ben said in todays sermon…yes, make God your number uno priority…but most importantly…MAKE GOD YOUR LIFE.
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.
I love love love love love this verse!!!!It reminds me of the sermon at the beach night a few weeks ago…about worship. When we worship to our Lord, in song, do we hold back because our voices might not be as good as others?Do we hold back because of distractions?I know that i used to…it was so convicting to find out that i was holding back praise to the King of the Universe because i feared what others thought of my voice…how stupid is that!? And worship isnt the only type of praise to God. I noticed that in prayer, i was lame sauce…i would fall asleep half way through my prayer that i made time for at the verrryyy end of the day in bed. Is that the way to treat my Creator?NO!I was pretty selfish. So this verse is an excellent verse to run through our heads if we get distracted during worship or prayer!
maranatha!!!!
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
God’s way really is perfect and it should be the only way. Unfortunatly not everyone wants to follow His commandments. I can tell you that following His commandments are the best thing for you. For me, and the others who got baptized today can agree, following God’s law truely is an amazing path and it is full of love and excitement. True, there will be persecution and trials to follow, but you will always have God on your side as well as your pastors and fellow believers in Christ.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
31 For who is God besides the LORD ? And who is the Rock except our God?
A couple of my ultimate favorite verses in the Bible. It is true, we are created by Him and when we are in need, God is there. He is perfect and we must serve Him and worship Him all the days of our life. What we are is God’s gift to us, Who we become is our gift to God.
This is such a long Psalm, I think there is too much great stuff to talk about in a concise comment on here!
46 “The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,
48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.”
Here David basically summarizes the entire thing. He was being pursued by Saul and other enemies, and it seemed like all hope was lost. He was in a desperate place where he probably had very few friends, but an abundance of enemies who wanted him dead. But he didn’t give up hope. He had faith in the LORD and cried to Him in his time of need. And God heard his prayer and came to his rescue in power and glory. He saved David from all those violent, wicked men who were his enemies. And David says that because of that–because God has saved him–he will praise the LORD.
God may not be needing to physically save us today from people who want to hurt or kill us, but He has saved us, and in an even greater way. He has provided us with Jesus, through whom we can be saved from *eternal* death, facing God’s righteous wrath. Do we respond to the fact that God has saved us by proclaiming that we will joyfully praise Him with all our heart? I hope that we are following David’s example and responding to God’s salvation not only with faith in Jesus, but with thanksgiving, worship, and praise to His name for His glory!
28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
Without God, we are nothing. We are in darkness and our lives dont matter. With God, he keeps our lamps burning, he turns the darkness we were in for so long into light. He prepares us and protects us from battles against the wicked. He helps us and rescues us and shows mercy on us that is indescribable!
God is truly an amazing God!
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.
Because God shows more than enough mercy on us and loves us so much, we must praise him and his name among the nations!
28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
is God really what keeps us going during the day? is it Him we rely on and trust when we are struggling and having a tough day? like david, we need to be trusting in God during our trials (in davids case fighting enemies and leading Israel) and not look to worldly things or ourselves when we are in trouble. it is God who keeps us running and it is Him who turns our darkness into light. we need to follow Him and rely on Him in all things, for He is our Creator, Redeemer, and Rock!
Woww I all these verses are so great. I had a lot trouble deciding.
1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
So simple but straight to the point. It’s very evident that David loves God by both his words and actions. He draws his strength from God, not from other people or the world or himself but from the Lord.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
God is everything to Him. I really need to follow his example and place everything wholeheartedly with God and praise him all the time. David praises God through everything. He relies and depends on God so much thanking him for his salvation, strength, and shelter. Like Ben said that we want to make God our life, not our number 1 priority in life. We live for Him. That verse Paul wrote down has been stuck in my head all day (To live is Christ and to die is gain) Not to be lukewarm, but on fire for Jesus Christ. To love and live for Jesus Christ so much that when we die, it will be our greatest moment ever.
3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
This is a really reassuring verse for me. David calls on the Lord and is saved from all those who are out to get him during this tough time. Our Lord sustains and stregthens us. He’s so much bigger than our enemies (If God is for us, who can be against us?)
46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
yayyy! praise the Lord. God is good
Let’s encourage everyone to go on SOTD. only 27 posts

30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
His way and his word is perfect! How awesome and encouraging! I can trust fully in his plan for my life and the path he leads because his way is perfect. I have been given his flawless word as a guide to living a pleasing life to the Lord. Remembering this, I confess the times that I have desired to listen to my own plans or thoughts rather than obeying God’s Word. I must fully depend on the flawless Word of God, knowing that his way and his will is perfect.
16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
In the opening verses of this psalm, David is crying out for deliverance. The LORD answers His prayers and saves Him, and David makes sure that He thanks and praises Him for it. How often do we ask for things in prayer, only to neglect this aspect once we receive what we want? We need to make sure that we are daily thanking God for how He works in our lives and answers our prayers.
16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
It just blows my mind to think how God would even want to have a relationship with us when we are so below Him. I like how this verse says “drew me out of deep waters” because our sin brings us down away from God and it reminds me how God, even though we’re sinners reached down and gave us a way out from all our sin and being so separated from Him by sending His Son.
4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
This is a pattern i have seen in Davids psalms. Whenever he is struggling or is going through a trial, he prays to God. His first reaction is to ask God for help in his time of need. That needs to be our reaction too. Instead of doing it by ourselves, we need to trust that God is in control and do things according to His plan.
29 With your help I can advance against a troop ; with my God I can scale a wall.
When I was in Uganda last summer, this verse got recited a lot on my team! Whenever we found ourselves in a situation that seemed hard or unsure, we would say to each other, “With my God I can scale a wall!”
This song makes God look so big and powerful. Do I have the confidence that David did, where I can look at the future and say, “Bring it on!” because I am so confident in God?
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
God is so great! Whatever we are going through in our lives, we can take refuge in God. He is the foundation of our lives and we need to fully rely on Him.
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
Wow, this whole passage is awesome! God is so perfect and holy, its huge to think about! God’s will is always the right one and works out for the best. Relying on yourself never works and we need The Lord to guide us, and we need to be obedient to what he commands of us. He will never leave nor forsake you, and that to me is really encouraging to know! He is a shield! God is so amazing and powerful. God and his word is what we need to be in daily, and to mediate on his word and just grow closer to him!
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
This is a great psalm showing how great and mighty God really is. We need to follow David’s example in this verse by constantly pursuing the Lord even in hard times. We need to not turn to worldly things when we are feeling down, but we need to put our trust in the Lord because without Him we can not do anything. We need to constantly be praising the Lord for who He is.
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
This is one of my favorite verses! I memorized it in college and think on it all the time because if I want my way, I remind myself that God’s way is perfect, mine is not. I might seek input from friends, but God’s Word is flawless…I need to trust in him!
31 For who is God besides the LORD ? And who is the Rock except our God?
32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
i love these verses! nothing else can satisfy us and strengthen us the way that God can, there is no one like him. these verses are such a great reminder of that
it is awesome to know that God is always going to be there for us no matter what the situation is and it is comforting to know that there is nothing that we can ever do to be snatched out of His hands. He will always be our father and us His sons and daughters!
28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
29 With your help I can advance against a troop ; with my God I can scale a wall.
This verse is so encouraging. Even when we lose all hope and are ready to give up on something, God will still be there with us, “keeping our lamp burning.” He will show us the way, and we can do all things through him. The amount of things that we can do with God on our side is endless and truely incredible!
oh my goodness, I read the wrong Psalm! How classic of me! All well, I got some good stuff from the psalm I did read today. XD
6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
I need to remember this verse more often after looking at this morning when I was so frightened by a nightmare I had had. Seriously, The first thing I should do is call out to Him who is my refuge and my safety, my shelter when fear beats around me. I like what Dacid follows up with after this verse though! He gives us plenty of reasons to fear the Lord, so if we’re fearful of Him, why do we cry out? It’s because of this fear that we dooooo! We acknowledge that He is the almighty God and we submit to whatever He wants us to do. We have an understanding that he does help the humble, like it says in here, and He will be there for us, those that are called His own. I have no fear about my next nightmare because I have the Lord!
1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
The very beginning of this psalm stuck out to me. We need to be reminded that the Lord is there to protect us and he is with us through everything, to realize he is our strength and that we can lean on him through anything and everything. This is also a good reminder to reflect on how we show God we love him and thank him for being our deliverer and for being our rock, we need to being letting the Lord know daily that we love him through our prayers and actions.
In this Psalm David is sooo thankful to God. He’s just been through fearing for his life from Saul, but God protected Him. I love that he goes on and on about how amazing God is, how his power shown through darkness and how he reached down and saved David from the depths- its pretty awesome! And God deserves all that praise and more. I want to have a constant view of God like the one that’s in this Psalm!
7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.
8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
Wow. WE do not want this God angry at us. We say that and then each and every day, multiple times a day we sin. That angers him so much. Not only that, but it hurts him too. We don’t want that. I know I don’t. I know that I need to pray for God’s mercy and be thankful that he does not unleash his powerful wrath upon us like we deserve. He is so forgiving and merciful. This psalm clearly shows how powerful his wrath is, and I know that I sure am thankful that he rescues me from it.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
It is so great that our God will protect us when we need him. I’m so glad that our God is watching over us and listens to our prayers. we need to grow in our relationship with christ because he is all of the things mentioned in this verse.
20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God.
22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.
23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.
How awesome is that?? He can say that he has been blameless and kept himself from sin?? He also says he has not turned away from his decrees! Wouldn’t that be awesome to be able to honestly say that??!! I want to follow David’s example in this! No Compromise!!!
34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze
God gives us the strength to do what we cannot. This verse reminds me of a book I read once called “The Bronze Bow.” The book takes place in Israel during Jesus life. The main characters discover that God does give them strength to withstand trials. I would definitely recommend the book. But enough of that. The thing to take away from this verse is that God strengthens us. Remember, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
Whenever I find myself in any situation where I see no way out of without serious problems from others, I need to remember this passage. He can rescue me, if He sees fit…the phrase “too strong for me” really demonstrates God’s absolute power.
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
This passage is so beautiful and so so true.
God you are so good to us with what you do to protect us from evil.
1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies
I love these three verses the first verse I use in my prayer to the Lord before my games. Lord you are my stregth. My foundation and rock. God is my protector and the foundation of my life. God I call upon you to keep me from enemies that can pull me away from Him
