Psalm 17

In the Shadow of Your Wings

A Prayer of David.

17:1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry!
Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
From your presence let my vindication come!
Let your eyes behold the right!

You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night,
you have tested me, and you will find nothing;
I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips
I have avoided the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to your paths;
my feet have not slipped.

I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me; hear my words.
Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O Savior of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.

Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who do me violence,
my deadly enemies who surround me.

10 They close their hearts to pity;
with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
11 They have now surrounded our steps;
they set their eyes to cast us to the ground.
12 He is like a lion eager to tear,
as a young lion lurking in ambush.

13 Arise, O Lord! Confront him, subdue him!
Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
14 from men by your hand, O Lord,
from men of the world whose portion is in this life.
You fill their womb with treasure;
they are satisfied with children,
and they leave their abundance to their infants.

15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness;
when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. (ESV)

  1. Luke Melrose!!!!!! 2010 says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer

With a pure and righteous heart, God will hear your prayer. God loves us when we abstain from sin, so when we pray to Him, He will answer. It’s a big motivation to stay righteous knowing that God is always with me and listening to all my prayers. I love this verse.

  2. Elise says:

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

Good Morning Everyone! I love the first part of this verse. First, it shows us that we need to RUN away from the evil people and things of this earth and come to the Lord. Second, it reminds us that those who are not a disciple of Christ have a reward that lies in this life here on earth. What a sad thing that is! This world is where people lie, steal, starve, thirst, cheat and murder! Why would we want to live for this world and not for our creator? In Him is perfection, and an eternal reward. The second part of this verse explains that when you are a child of God, you nolonger hunger for the things of this earth. I, once I am a new creation, nolonger want to sin or to have the rewards this earth offers me. My citizenship lies in Heaven and I would rather store up my treasures there! MARANATHA!

  3. Michelle [maranatha] 2010 says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

This is such an important verse to follow for the rest of our lives. At Revival, Pastor Mike said that he, himself is in the battle of the Christian walk. His father is still in the battle of the Christian walk at age 60. His grandfather died, still in the Christian walk in his 70′s. What really matters is if we stay a Christian for the rest of our lives. We need to be an athlete…we need to finish the race that most of us have already started. Right now, we can consider ourselves on fire for God and think that we have it good for the rest of our lives, but think again. Satan will attack us, and we have to be strong and resist temptation. Some of my family members who everyone thought were the strongest Christians (some were even pastors)…turned out to be hypocrites! They turned their backs on God after marriage and they now live lives that are not pleasing to God. Anyone can say that they know they will be a Christian for the rest of their lives, but only some really stick it out to the end. Lets make sure that we are as strong as possible to fight the things of this world. I know that i want to live the rest of my life pleasing to God and according to His will. But i need to do my part in the battle by reading His word, praying, evangelizing, associating myself with Christian friends, and make sure that the man i marry is 100% sold out for Christ! The person we marry has a great influence on how we live most of our lives. So i urge you to listen to the God calls it love series if you havent already, because it is so important to not be unequally yolked. and dont just date around for fun, it could cause stumbling. This is a great verse, and it is another one that we should memorize!

    MARANATHA!

  4. T moore says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

I need to be way more persistent like David. With righteous hearts, God will always hear us and answer our prayers; it may not always be the answer we want but God has his plan for our lives. Also, just want to point out, David is calling out to God and just praying to Him. I know I could be more like this, having ‘my heart and flesh cry out’ to God.

  5. Nicholas Bonetto says:

I like Psalm17:7, ” Show the wonders of your great love…”

David is saying, “SHOW me the wonders of your great love.” As pastor Bobby said, God’s love is an action, not a feeling. Even if we don’t “feel” God’s love, it’s always there because it is already done. His love is unconditional, and I’m grateful for that.

  6. Dave Hosford says:

Ps 17:8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings…

The Psalmist asks God to help him, to answer his prayers. And even though we are incapable of loving Him as He loves us, He ALWAYS views us (repentant Christians) through the record of Jesus – perfect in every way! Thank You God for not giving us what we do deserve (DEATH) and giving us eternity with You. I want to be the apple of Your eye and protected by Your grace. I hope everyone repents and trusts in You to get the same gifts! I’m broken for my family, neighbors and everyone who rejects You. Use me to share today with my two brothers and their boys. Please call them too!

  7. Alyssa K says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped

8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings

9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

As for verse 5, this is what every Christian wishes to say at a point in their walk with Christ. I desire to keep following his path and not be led astray by God’s enemies. I love verses 8 and 9 (not just because the metaphor sounds pretty but because I truly relate to the verse)–I often pray that God will protect me and keep me from Satan’s harm, which can be disguised in “mortal enemies who surround me”.

  8. PaYtOn :] says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

David is crying out to God to hear him and listen to his prayer. God does listen and will reply. His reply may not be what we want but it is part of His will and in the end it will have had a purpose. We cannot see into the future, but God is already there and knows what is going to happen, so we need to remember that in the end, there is a purpose. David asks God to give an ear. And when we ask the same we should also give our ear and listen. Pastor Bobby did a sermon on listening and we need to STOP what we are doing and LISTEN to our Father! :]

  9. Ashlyn--:) says:

11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.

Every way we turn there will be a chance to stumble, but we have a choice wether to flee or take part. If Christ is the center of our lives we can look to Him for support! he will help us “not be tempted beyond what we can bear”!

  10. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 12,”They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.”

I like this verse because it tells of the devil and what he does to us. He wants us to sin and he always waits for the best time to tempt us and unless we hold true to GOD we will fail the test because we are sinful and we can do nothing without GOD.

  11. kJ 2010...wake up call yesterday says:

4 As for the deeds of men— by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.

I think this is so important because David is saying God’s Words are keeping him away from the evil stuff. If we are in God’s Word then we too can have the wisdom, not to sin or keep away from the ways of this world. That’s why it is important to comment on SOTD because we are being God’s Word and it can keep us away from the ways of this world.

  12. it's Daniel Yo! says:

10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.

THis describes may of the high school students i know at my school. It is hard to talk to them about Christ because they have already closed up their hearts.

  13. Mike says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

David was so resolved in his struggle against sin – in this case, the things that he said – that He was confident that even in the deep recesses of his heart God would not find any sinfulness in this area. This is a confidence that a lot of us most likely do not have. But our response should be similar to David’s in Psalm 139:23 –”Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” We need to be responsive to conviction of sin in our lives and resolved to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord.

  14. ~ Ariana Mishreki ~ says:

    Goodmorning everyone . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 17 . . .

“1. Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.”

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS VERSE. David is crying out to God asking that He would listen to his prayer and answer it. That’s exactly how we should be about our prayers. Even though God might not answer them the way we wanted, He still answered them. When we pray to God and as for something He’ll answer that prayer in one of three ways: Yes, No, Maybe. We need to be willing and ready to accept whatever answer He’ll give us. This verse I think stood out to me the most is because I’m waiting for a reply from one of my questions I aksed God. =)

  15. melissa says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

i think this is a great analogy to sin. when you sin, your feet slip, you fall down. you dont want to fall down though, so you shouldnt sin. i really think this is a good way to think about sin. :)

  16. Billy Morris says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

Similar to a coupple days ago, I have found that the verse that speaks out most to me is about how apart from God, we are nothing. We cannot say “I am going to do this”, but rather we should be saying God, will you please allow me and give me the strength to do this. We also need to listen when God responds, becasue he might not give the answer that you were planning on hearing, or the answer that is what you wanted. No matter what, God knows what is best and he is in control.

  17. Jenae Naeeee (= says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

This is probably one of the coolest verses. If we really think this way, that God will come while were sleeping and look deep into us, then imagine how little sin we would have in our lives! At revival when we wrote in our Bibles the one thing that we resolve to do, one of the things i put was that i would try and make the things i say Godly, therefor my mouth would not sin. haha that pretty much why this verse stood out to me so much!

  18. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

Verse 14 is so encouraging, and it gives us a great example of what we need to say when we pray for others who are not choosing to follow God. They are wasting their lives by living for themselves, which we know has no purpose, and will turn out badly after they die. These verses also remind me of Matthew 5:10-11 when Jesus blesses those who are presecuted by people like that. This also relates to being a light of the world by SHOWING we are Christians and that we are different than the people who choose to follow the world. So when we are attacked by non Christians, we need to pray for them and continue to persevere!

  19. Spencer Camp says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

This is our goal in life: to be holy as God is holy. A book I am reading called The Pursuit of Holiness succinctly defines holiness as a perfect conformity to the divine nature of God. Here David claims his path has basically conformed to God’s direction and his feet have not slipped. This is my goal to which I strive: to be conformed to all the perfect ways of God and keep my feet from slipping. This is my goal and I aim to work at it like an olympic athlete with eyes transfixed on the prize not accepting anything but victory.

  20. Lizzie Holt :D says:

13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.

This verse stood out to me because it sounds similar to the way I’ve been praying about my entry into high school. I don’t have any Christian friends going to my high school but I’m praying about that too. I pray that God will soften my friend’s hearts and protect me from the temptations that are so easy to give in to in high school.

  21. Kelsey says:

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

God takes care of his followers and his children. He fed the Israelites Mannah, he saved daniel in the lions den, he saved Radshak, Meeshak, and Abbendigo in the furnace. Again and again throughout the Bible he proves the he cares for and watches out for his people. One thing common through all of those miracles was that his people trusted in Him. We need to do the same thing. I know that often I don’t trust the Lord with the little things. But God tells us he will provide. And I just need to remember and trust in that.

  22. 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

Reading this verse made me realize how the world works…everyone is trying to get rich, get a new car, new house, new whatever…friends….It is a shame that all this will go away…What they have worked their whole life on earth for will only be with them for a fraction of eternity….what we work for will be with us forever…so moral of the story store up treasure in heaven!

  23. Murphy Danahy says:

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

Whose reward is in this life… that is most of the world isn’t it. They live their lives doing anything they can to amass treasure here for themselves. We have a hop through CHRIST, so we should have different motives.

  24. Angela :) says:

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

Many and most people are storing up and earthly things!!! There is NO point!!! It will all go away, store up treasure in heaven or if not all your stuff will perish in hell with you!!!! So be different and and stand out for God!!!

  25. Jessica K says:

Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings”
I love this verse. It reminds me that God is always watching us, so we need to always live our lives for him and do what is pleasing to him. Just as we are the apple of his eye, so he should be the apple of our eye. I also just love the imagery of the verse, God protecting us in the “shadow of his wings”.

Psalm 17:15 “And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness”
This ending verse is important because God is all that we need to satisfy ourselves. We should not want anything else but him. It is humbling and comforting to think of God as all we need.
I love reading Psalms because they are beautifully worded and so meaningful. They remind us of how God will rescue us in times of trouble and how worthy of praise he is!

  26. ✿tara eddo✿ says:

Psalm 17:5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

This verse really reminds me of 1 Corinthians 10:12 “So if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” Most of us are on God’s team and path, so be careful that you don’t slip up. I need lots of help in this area, because I don’t feel like I’ve been dedicating enough time to God or His Word. I pray that I and anyone else who has this problem can find strength to dedicate more time to Him!

    God Bless!

  27. 4 As for the deeds of men— by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.

I like how this chapter addresses many issues that us as humans struggle with. The first couple verses were on controlling the mouth, and this verse intruduces David addressing the deeds of men in the world. I liked how he says how he refrains from falling to the bad deeds-by reading God’s Word (word of your lips). That is honestly the biggest thing we can do to refrain from being tempted and conforming to this world. Hide God’s word in your heart and dwell on it. Scripture can’t be something we read and then it goes in one ear and out the other. The Lord says to always be ready to give an answer, and scripture has the answers! The Bible shows and tells us how to live a Godly life according to Jesus, and that is how we can glorify God. I need to make sure reading my Bible isn’t simply a task to get done, but something that is important to me so that I can live a Godly life and not conform to this world.

  28. steffen eriksen says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

I really liked what michelle said! As Pastor Mike spoke about continuing to be in the battle for the rest of your life, just as he is still in the battle, his dad is still in the battle, and to the day he died, his grandfather was in the middle of the battle, too. Many of us are fired up to live the Christian life without compromise right now, especially coming back from Revival recently, and that is a good thing. But we need to not let the fire die down! It is so easy to drift back into the flow of the world after being seperated from most of it for all of a week. Solid Christian friends are so important iin keeping the fire burning, that they will be their to encourage you and keep you accountable, just as you do to them. Reading God’s Word and praying help keep an eternal focus too! And worshipping God through song is also key as you praise His name and keep Him above all else!

I need to not step down or let off in living a life of no compromise, but instead continue to grow in sanctification. I need to stay close to my strong Christian friends who will rebuke me when I am in sin and encourage me when I am struggling, just as I need to be a friend worth finding to them! I need to be dedicated to talking to God throughout the day, with dedicated solid times of prayer, as well as the “texting God” with the short prayers throughout the day. I need to keep Him as my focus always and exalt Him above all else, and worship through song is a great way to do so!

  29. kelly causky says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

David has such desire to serve the Lord in this chapter. He has fervor! We need to have this kind of confidence every day and pray that God searches our hearts and make known all our sin through the reading of God’s Word. Then, we need to pray like this!

  30. Eric Walker: excited for BAPTISM SUNDAY!!! says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

God constantly puts us through trials that may seem horrible at the time, but will develop character and your relationship with him. When we are having a tough day, God does not want to see us complain and become weary, but to turn to him and take refuge in him. When God tests us, we need to turn to him to keep us safe and deliver us from temptation. God has a plan for us but we need to trust in him and give him our life.

4 As for the deeds of men— by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

God truly is a refuge. He has died on the cross in order to free us from sin so that we will not all be condemed to hell. Without God dying on the cross for our sins, we would all be going to hell and have no chance at salvation. If we put our trust in God, he will answer our prayers and deliver us from sin. We all need to be the wise man, who built his house on rock, whereas the fool built his house on sand and when the wind came, it fell with a loud crash (Matthew 7:24-27). God is our rock and if we resolve to live a no compromise lifestyle and trust in him that he will help you to do so, our “house” will stay standing firm in the Lord.

15 And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

The day that I get to go to heaven and see God’s face will truly be the greatest day of my life. I can’t wait to fall facedown because God is soo holy that I can’t even look at his face. Only in heaven will my soul be satisfied. God is the only form of satisfaction. Nothing else satifies like God. Glory be to God!!!

  31. Sarah G.! says:

2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.

I wasn’t 100% sure what vindicate meant, so i looked it up!! Vindicate: To clear of accusation, blame, suspicion, or doubt with supporting arguments or proof. Now this verse makes more sense to me!! >.< David speaks of coming before God, the ultimate judge!! It made me think about the day I see God and whether or not he would be pleased…You never know when that day may come!! MARANATHA I can’t wait to see the Lord, but it also made me take my sin a lot more seriously. As judge, God has all the power to send me to hell for what I have done…but I praise him for his grace and mercy through which I do not have to!! :D

  32. Sara L. says:

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

We, as Christians, do NOT get our reward in this life. This is very clear…and very encouraging, at least for me. Also, in this passage Christians are again shown to be lowly people. I should take heed of this so that I may not forget.

  33. Hannah says:

1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.

This verse again is another encouragement because I am just SO thankful that he humbles himself and totally listens to us, and we can be confident that he listens to us! It’s SO AWESOME! He doesn’t have to, but he totally does!!! The reason we go to God, and talk to Him and ask Him things is because we realize that without Him and without the grace and mercy he has had upon our lives….we wouldn’t have any of it! Including our relationship with Him! Thank you Lord for listening to us when we talk to you!

  34. Tpayne says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

David continually in the Psalms, hands his pain and anguish over to the Lord with faith and confidence that the Lord will Shelter and Protect.

  35. Riley Hancock says:

we can not be pulled from God’s hands at all. we need to talk about Gods word and stand up for him.

  36. Chelseaaa says:

13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.

The Lord has the power to confront anyone in this world. He can save us as well. We have to remember He has all power.

  37. 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

Even though David has gone through trials/ temptations, his feet are still firm on God’s path, on the narrow road. He still seeks out God in prayer and doesn’t succumb to the temptation of the wicked but gets his strength and guidance from God.

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

God hears and answers the prayers of his children. How amazing and comforting is that!

  38. Alison says:

This 37 comments thing is really depressing me :[ Come on everyone the Word of God changes our lives!

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

We’ve all heard it time again- God always answers prayers. Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes the answer is no, and sometimes the answer is wait. We may know that, but its always good to be reminded! We can’t think of God like a magician who will give us everything we’ve ever wanted. Our true reward is in heaven- on earth we may not have any kind of amazing life. But God does answer prayer, he hears everything, every word, every thought we send to him and will always provide a response… and of course the hope of heaven!!

  39. Evan McKee says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me…

It is so amazing that God will answer all of our prayers whenever we want to talk with him. God is never to busy for us. It’s incredible how much he loves us, and I’m so glad that nothing is more important to him than his children. We need to be careful not to upset him by falling away from him after all that he has done for us. he deserves better than that from us. what happened to all of the posts that we had? we were over 100 at one point! why have so many of us lost focus on him and stopped reading the bible everyday to learn about the one who cares enough about us to die for us on a cross? we need to be committed. It’s so sad to see how little the number has become already compared to once revival was just finished. It’s only been two weeks and we already have less than 1/2 the comments than we used to have!

  40. Allie Moorefield(: says:

1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.
I need to depend more on the Lord. I need to know that He will listen to my cry. Even though the answer may not be what i want, the Lord will always be there for me and listen to me.
13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.
I also need to know and be aware that God will bring down the wicked and rescue me from them. THe wicked will always be trying to tempt me and take me down, but the Lord will save me EVERYTIME!
    GOD IS GOOD (:

  41. Dominic S says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.
6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

In these verses David is explaining how he has walked a righteous path and lived his whole life for God. He then goes on to say that when he prays that God listens to him. This is true for everyone, and God will not only listen to your prayer all the time, but he will always answer it. However, we need to realize that the answer may not come immediately or be exactly what we want, but it is always what God has planned out for us.

12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.
13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.

This goes back to what Pastor Mike said at Revival, that every Christian will be persecuted just because of our faith. They attack us like lions attack their pray, but God isnt blind to this. He not only sees it, he rises up and rescues us from them. He is a just God, and even if he doesnt protect us from them right away, he will give them their due punishment if they do not repent of their wicked ways.

  42. Christa Blakey says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

This verse is really intense! The psalmist is bold about his personal integrity and it definitely seems that he is very intentional about it. Saying that he resolves not to sin with his mouth and asking God to probe his heart…this was really challenging to me to imitate him in pursuing personal holiness before the Lord and in being resolved against my sin.

  43. Luke Skywalker says:

15 And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness

This verse seems a touch humorous to me in that David says he will be “satisfied” with seeing God. However, seeing God’s face is more than we can imagine. To state that I would be “satisfied” to see God’s face would be a huge understatement. That would be so awesome. Further than that though, this verse is profound because it talks about the true longing of everyone. Everyone has a need for God innately, even if they push it away. To see God’s face would be the ultimate experience, and it would be more truly satisfying than any experience on earth. God should definitely satisfy us, however much of an understatement that may be.

  44. Bryan Sonksen says:

    I read…

Once again in the Psalms, we see David having complete trust in the Lord. He trusts that God will deliver Him from his evil enemies. Sometimes in our lives, we do not come to God in times of need and try to face challenges on our own. We need to be more like David and come to God with our worries and trust that He will do the right thing because He is Holy.

  45. Alicia Karlsson says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

I agree with you Christa. This verse is very intense. The line that stuck out to me the most was ” I resolve that my mouth will not sin”. What a statement. This is saying that we as godly people can resolve not to sin. I always think well because I am a sinner I am going to sin, but here the psalmist makes the statement that he is going to resolve not to sin. We can do the same. There is no excuse for allowing our sin to over take us. 1 Cor 10:11-13 (one of the revival verses speaks to this) No temptation has seized you…God will provide a way out. When I am tempted to sin I need to remind myself that God will provide a way out and that I don’t have to give into my temptation and sin.

  46. Cameron says:

15 And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

here we have a great biblical example of David, one who wants more than anything in the world to see God’s face and His glory. we need to imitate his yearning and passion for seeing God and seeing Him be glorified. if we make an effort all the time to live like we cannot wait to see our King (which we should as followers of Christ) we will live holier lives and bear fruit. we need to live every moment like the Lord is coming back that day!

  47. Aubree Calderwood says:

11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.

12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.

This verse brings up a good point about being persecuted as a Christian. People want to tear us down..sometimes they are even “hungry” to make us fall into sin. However, just as ” a great lion crouching in cover,” they might disguise themselves. I know for me there’s been many situations where you see sinful things advertised as desirable, fun, or cool. But they are terrible things that God hates in disguise. I need to pray each day that God will give me strength and guidence to stay away from these things. No Compromise! :)

  48. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

I love this verse. It showed me that I need to be striving to make my walk with the Lord so strong that I stay on the path and do not slip. This verse is so encouraging to me to step up my walk with God.

  49. Katie Slusher says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

It’s so awesome that God answers us when we pray! He listens to my desires and answers according to his sovereign plan. God will never be too busy to hear me, but will always listen and answer when I call out to Him. This really challenges me to continually pour out my desires to God because he hears them and will answer them all!

  50. Jackson Dahl says:

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

This verse is so awesome! Daniel has incredible trust in the Lord. If we are righteous and trust in God, he will always answer our prayers! Sometimes I think, oh maybe God just doesn’t care about my prayer or didn’t hear it. But that is so untrue! God always hears us and will always provide for us! How incredible is it to think that the God of the Universe will always hear you and answer you! The Lord is truely Incredible!

  51. Pastor Bobby says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

This is an amazing statement David makes here. He is saying that even though God is searching his heart at the end of the day…he is confident he is right before God. He knows he did not sin with his mouth because he wasn’t harboring evil desires in his heart.

It is important for us to have this confidence before God…a clear conscience is one of the most valuable things we can own!

  52. Austin 2010 says:

8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

I personally need to trust God to protect me and to realize that I can’t do it on my own. However the key to asking, is to ask. PRAY PRAY PRAY!

  53. Jake says:

14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
15 And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

It is pointless to build up earthly treasures because in the end they will all perish. We should be focusing on serving the Lord and building up heavenly treasures that last for eternity. Even though it may be uncomfortable to serve for us like Ben said tonight we still need to be constantly serving. We need to make God the center focus and priority in our life because he is all that truley satisfies and will last forever fulfilling every promise He makes. I can not wait until the day I see His face and I will have to fall facedown because of His unending and incomparable glory and awesomeness.

  54. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 17

15 And I—in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

David here is expressing the joy of waking every morning knowing that he would meet God daily. This is David’s comparison to those who live for the world and will eventually face God’s punishment. What a joy for us to know the assurance that is found in Christ Jesus.

Daniel 12:2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
    MARANATHA

  55. josh senger says:

11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.

12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.

13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.
this sounds exactly how we could describe the world today. there is so many things like tv, internet, and music that is trying to drag us down. it is so hard to be focused completely on God while we r surrounded by so many things that tempt us. i am glad that we have a Lord that is there to protect us!

  56. Haley Litz says:

3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

I know this is a day late, but I wanted to comment still. This is an awesome verse and the one that stuck out to me most. He is saying he is blameless!! God can search his heart and test him and yet he is resolved to not sin!!! How awesome is that especially coming away from revival! We all made resolves and this psalmist is so resolved and comitted that he knows he is blameless! I want to be like that!!

  57. Rebekah Foreman says:

5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

I love this verse. I am going to write it on my mirror so I see it everyday!! This is so critical because as Christians no matter who you are in your life you are going to struggle and might slip alittle but God will pull you back. I have to admitt not being able to go to church because of my soccer tournaments have really sucked and made me slip alittle but because of SOTD made me stay on the path. Lord may you keep my feet on the path and may I not slip.
