Psalm 13
How Long, O Lord?
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
13:1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me. (ESV)

i love verses five and six:) They seem to be a common ‘shout out’ to the Lord in the past few psalms
I love how passionate David is when he prays to God. I feel like that is definatley something i can work on more. The Lord has been good to us and we need to constantly be praising Him and His works because He is merciful and we dont deserve it. His love is unfailing and that is incredible. How many people do you meet who NEVER let you down?NOT ONE!! God is here for us all the time, and His love is unconditional. Let us remember that as we live our days because He deserves ALL PRAISE AND GLORY!

5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
No matter what we can trust that the Lord will be faithful. He will be good to us and His will will be carried out. We can rely on the promises the Lord has made to us. Praise be to God!

3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
The psalmist King David is crying out to the LORD for help. He is asking God to “give light to his eyes”, or else he will “sleep in death.” This is such a cool analogy. In crying out to God for help, God can help you, giving light to your eyes that you may see what is before you. But if He doesn’t, you will sleep in death, for you are lost in the darkness. Christians need to be crying out to God for help and for guidance, that God will show them the way before them. I need to seek God’s guidane for my life, that I may not sleep in darkness, but instead receive light to my eyes. That can be found through reading His Word. The Bible instructs me with God’s instructions and how He wants me to live. Instead of relying on myself to guide me trhough troubles, I need to find God’s instructions, that it willl be light to my eyes.
I like the attitude in verse 3… it’s not okay to be apart from God, we will die!
I also like the “But I trust…” despite feeling like God has forgotten, he trusts, rejoices, and sings to God.
Ps 13:2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
This writer is getting real with God! Honest talk with Him about wrestling with thoughts – a sin we are all susceptible to. It’s killing this guy!
We all can take a lesson from the cure to that condition found in verses 5-6: trust in His faithful love, having overwhelming joy for His saving grace and praising Him for His blessings. There is repentance in verse 5 as well! When we have sorry hearts because of our circumstances turning to the promises of God in trust acknowledges that we were trying to stand on the ‘sinking sand’ of personal comfort and not on the rock of Christ. We can take real comfort in His unbreakable promises – so don’t forget the cure of Ps 73:5-6!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I think that the fact that our unfailing love for God results in Rod’s faithfulness is awesome. As long as we as humans put all of out faith and trust in God, he will save us from darkness and evil, and will reward us with eternal Happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven! I Can’t Wait!!!
Great comment Steffen and Dave!!
5But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I really like how in all these psalms, the psalmists are all sharing in similar troubles. The wicked are rising up and are seeming to rule and God seems deaf to their cries. But by the end of the psalm, the psalmist tells of his faith and how they know God is there and even though it seems like He isn’t listening, He is and all they have to do is trust in HIm. What and amazing example for us ALL!! I want to be like that and I pray that God will help me to remember that He is ALWAYS there no matter what even if it seems like He can’t hear me. Praise to the Lord Almighty!!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Lizzie you are so right! All the psalmists are going through similar struggles but similar to what we go through too and I love that, I love that we can see oursleves in the Psalms. What is so encouraging is that the psalmist, despite his despair, ends with 2 very key things in our Christian life…a) preaching to ourselves, reminding us of who He is and b) worship/praise. We can remember that no matter what the situation or circumstance in life might be, He is always faithful and trustworthy and we can sing to Him for He has been good to us…HE HAS SAVED US!
I also like verses 5 and 6, but this did stand out to me too.
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
If we don’t cry out to God for help, we will be weak, and the enemies will pursue us and we will be taken over. But with the LORD’s guidance and help we will overcome the enemy. We have to be right with God for Him to look on us and have mercy. That should keep us on track and keep us in our Bibles knowing that God will save us from our enemies!!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Even though we have not seen Christ we still believe and have faith in HIm! We trust in the salvation he has given for us and hopefully live our lives to shine for his glory! We rejoce in the fact that one day He will come back to take us with him and to defeat the evil of this world!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
We always have to remember that God is good all the time and all the time God is good. Even when things in life arent going well we need to remember that Gid sent his Son in love for us and his grace is enough for us alone. We always need to remember that and know he has done enough and been far better to us than we deserve.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me
I like how these two verses prove true faith in God and that despite times of doubt and uncertainty in life, there is always the comforting knowledge that God’s love is “unfailing” and that is something worth singing for. God’s love is the best thing we could ever ask for.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
We all have times when our circumstances may feel overwhelming but God is good even when times are tough. I am thankful that no matter what this life brings, I know that God loves me and is working all things together for my good. I pray that when anxiety attempts to take my focus off of Him, like David, I would trust in God’s unfailing love and His perfect plan for my life.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Remember that Jesus needs to be our first love. The LORD is good to us. He has created us and everything around us. He has given us what we need(maybe not what we want). He has blessed us with the choice of choosing salvation. SO choose salvation and rejoice, for the LORD has given us so much to be thankful for and we need to sing to Him, for He is KING :]
***REJOICE!!!***
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
After complaining about how far he feels from the Lord and how sorrowful his heart feels, David reminds himself that he should always trust in the Lord. He forces himself to remember God’s love and his salvation; then he sings to the Lord about how good He has been to him. Its a great example for us! Whenever we feel sorrowful and far from God, we should trust in His love and remember how good he has been to us! If nothing else, we should remind ourselves everyday of his graciousness in our salvation! That is obvious proof of God’s constant presence in our life. Maranatha!!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
do we trust in the Lord’s unfailing love with all of our hearts like David does? we need to understand that unlike us, as sinful men and women, cannot keep all of our promises. however, God, who is perfect and holy and cannot sin, will keep all of His promises big or small. God has unfailing love for His children; if He says He will do something for them (like save them, give them glorified bodies, return, etc) He will because He can’t help but do it. we need to live in trust in God and His grace and promises, and with our security in Him we will live different lives. so lets rejoice in salvation and trust in God’s unfailing love like David, and sing praises to our King forever and ever!
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death.
David is realizing that he needs help, and instead of trying to fix the problem himself, he makes the right decision to cry out to the Lord for help and that he might open David’s eyes. I also need ask God for help and guidence when I am faced with a hard situation.
Goodmorning everybody . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 13 . . .
“5. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.”
God has unfailing love for us. No matter when, God will always love us and care for us because we are His children. David’s saying that his heart rejoices in His salvation and the fact that He died for a completely sinful man. Unlike the world, God will always be there for us with his love, mercy, grace, and shelter.
“6. I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.”
This verse basically says it all. PRAISE GOD FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US. Look at the Earth, Heavens, and space and all that He has created just for us to live in. The houes that he prevides for us, clothes, food, church, and most importantly . . . THE BIBLE. =) God’s been good and has given us much more than we could ever ask for or deserve. =)

5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
David has faith in the LORD no matter what. Earlier in the passage he is talking about his enemies are defeating him, yet he knows Gods will is perfect and holy. He has faith that God will see him through whatever trials he is facing. We too ought to be this way. When we face hardships and struggles sometimes we blame it on God Himself. We need to know that it is our own fault God is putting us throught these trials. It is to help us grow and we should all know by now that we all need a lot of growing up sometimes. Whenever your going through a struggle just remember to have faith in God and stay connected to godly friends to help you through diversities.
This is a great psalm! WIthout God, we will be in darkness and sleeping in death.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
We need to trust in God’s unconditional love, our hearts need to be joyful in your salvation and mercy. Most of the time i try to fix things and problems by myself, when i need to put all my trust in God!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
God has been so good to us, the least we can do is give him praise, trust in him, and sing to the Lord our God!
heellooo!
4 my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.—Though we may be persecuted and put down for our faith, it is all worth it in the end! I know that I should be looking forward to it because I can test my faith and it shows how much I really love God. And like it says we need to trust in Him that He will make everything worth it and He has a plan that is only for the best! Thank you Lord for dying for us and our sins and I pray that we can just put our whole heart into following you everyday!! :)
cant wait to see everyone tonight!! BOOYAH BEACH NIGHTT!!! praying for camp compass
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Yes He has! God does so much for us and we dont even give Him the credit or recognition! We need to thank the Lord for what he has done. Whether it is singing or praying or anything else, just make sure that God gets the worship He deserves.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
This chapter is so great. I love how David is going through hard times and he will sing to the Lord. We need to remember that God is good and He deserves our praises in the hard times and in the good times.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 6,”I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.”
I like this verse because it tells what we are always supposed to do. When we are in bad times or good times we are always supposed to praise the LORD because HE is always watching us and protecting us till HE wants us to come to be with HIM. Even when I think it was Paul when he and his other disciples were thrown in prison they rejoiced and praised GOD. And when they were in a time where good happened to them they still praised GOD.

2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
If we think being a Christian will make life always happy and easy, we are wrong. As Christians, we must suffer in great amounts at times in order to live for the Lord. Like Pastor Mike said at Revival, we should WANT to be persecuted for living for God!
This entire Psalm is just so wonderful to read. It is a great example on how we need to persevere and trust God throughout our lives. Throughout the Psalm, David is crying out to God, pleading Him to answer his prayers, and help him. And in the beginning it kind of looks like isn’t really trusting God, but in the end you find out that he was always trusting in God, and persevered through it. “5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.”
So even when we have the hardest of trials, we should think about this Psalm, and trust God with all of our hearts!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I like this verse because it can be a great application in my life because if I’m feeling that God is good all the time (which He is), then my thought should be sing to the Lord! We should feel this joy and this excitment to sing to the Lord when He is good! Blast some of that Jesus music! :)
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
God is always good to me but right now i notice it really standing out at camp compass because he has blessed me with amazing kids to hang out with all day and he has given me the strength to get day to day with running and all the other things im doing! I have sooo many reasons to rejoice and i will (=<3
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
God is good, all the time; all the time, God is good. In this whole pslam David is crying out to the Lord. It feels like the Lord has forgotten him. Yet he does not stay in his sorrow. He ends the psalm saying that God has been good to him and he will sing to the Lord. I need to remember this when I have hard days (which are no where near as hard as David’s days were!). God has been good to me and is good to me.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Trusting in God’s love for him is what got David throught the many extremely difficult trials in his life. When life seems overwhelming and we think we won’t survive is God the first person we turn to or do we turn to materialism, friends, or boy friend/girl friend first. Our faith in God needs to pull us through not the World and “self-esteem”!
4 my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
they will try to tare us apart from you God but we trust in your unfailing love that we will not be away from you God we will be as close as we can.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
we always need to trust in God’s love. i think its amazing to just think about how powerful and mighty God is, yet he still cares and loves for us sinful and disobedient humans who he can destroy with a snap of his fingers.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
i like these verses becasue even though david is asking the Lord for help and asking how long the enemy will trtiumph over. and even though he doesnt get an answer right away, he still trusts in the Lord’s unfailing love. he rejoices in the Lord’s salvation and praises the Lord. these verses are helpful because whenever i want an answer from God right now, i need to remember to trust in his unfailing love and rejoice in his salvation and give him praise always.
Hey everyone, I like verse 6:
“I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.”
God is good ALL THE TIME and all the time, GOD IS GOOD. Something I very often take for granted is how good God has been to me. He has given me everything I have and I need to praise him for that. I need to thank God whenever I wake up in my soft bed and when I see everything I am blessed with. I want to make sure to praise God all the time because he is good to me every single day.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
GOD IS GOOD…ALL THE TIME
ALL THE TIME…GOD IS GOOD!
It’s easy to say that at Revival ’09 when we are having the time of our lives, but it is much more difficult to shout that out when circumstances are so bad you are asking God questions like “Will you forget me forever?” It’s cool to see how David still trusts God’s unfailing love in that time.
That is a challenge for me to trust God’ love even when life seems hard. And even more than that…to REJOICE!
See everybody at Beach Night tonight!
Verse 5 is a great verse. Here, we have David wondering when God will return. David can be seen as a great example for all of us because he has put all of his trust in God. Just like David, we need to trust the Lord with everything. During times of trouble, it can be very easy to try and handle the situAtion on your own but you don’t have to. God will help you if you pray to him and trust that he will answer your prayers (Luke 17:19). Just like this verse, God will help you if you have faith in him.
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
I loved how much David shows his faith and dependence on God in the last part of this verse! He knows that without God helping him, he will be eternally lost. This prayer is such a magnificent example for all of us! David seeks the Lord’s guidance knowing that he needs it. I need to pray more like David, showing more dependence on him! :D
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
David, or whoever the psalmist is, is distraught in this verse. He is struggling every day for the LORD yet it seemed to him like GOD had abandoned him. We sometimes are downcast at the state of the world, but never forget that GOD is always there. He never abandons us.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Just a moment ago the psalmist was full of despair, and now he is praising the LORD! If this isn’t enough to convince us of the worth of turning to God in everything, then I don’t know what will. In a matter of minutes he went from utterly tormented to trusting and joyful.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation
It’s not us but God. God is the reason we want to defeat sin, no us. If our goal in defeating sin is for us to defeat sin then we are missing the whole points. I sometimes do just that though, I forget why I’m defeating sin; its for God. We love God so much we want to be as far away from sin as possible. This verse will help me to remember why.
This passage reminded me of the pain that Job went through, he went through sooooooooooo much and even had to face his friends who told him some lies but he persevered and trusted that the Lord was just testing him. He sounded exactly like verse one where he thinks that God can’t hear him and he waits for his response, waits for God’s answer. God hears all of our prayers and He does give us our salvation just as verse 5 says so we can trust in Him and lean on Him for our complete dependency. hmmmmm reminds me of the Camp Compass point of the day today, “GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES….FEAR NOT!” :D
1 and 2 really remind me of how although it may seem that god is absent in your life, he has a plan for you, and it will unravel in its own time. Keep up the faith, and it will come. afterall… god is faithful. :- )
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Even in his difficulttimes, David still trusts in God and praises him for all that he has done. He doesn’t forget that God is faithful and good.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
we must all trust in the lord he is faithful to us as we are to him. David always trusted in God he never forgot where he is in his faith.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I noticed David mentions singing to the Lord a lot. When he remembers the salvation that only the Lord provides he bursts out in song. I think tonight we should sing loud because the Lord has been good to us!
See everyone at the Salt Creek Beach Night!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I know most people have commented about eitehr this verse or verse 6, but i have to point out how awesome this verse is. Just to think about the fact that God shows His children, us Christians, His unfailing love is just amazing. Unfailing, that’s pretty amazing. No matter how many times we screw up He still loves us. Now that is a reason to rejoice! And then the next part, salvation! That’s another great reason to rejoice! Thank you Lord for all that you’ve done!
Psalm 13:3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
As Christians, we should constantly be calling out to the Lord and asking for guidance, because we are NOTHING and can do NOTHING without Him. “Give light to my eyes or I will sleep in death”. . . this analogy was at first confusing to me, but I looked at the footnote in my bible so it’s all good :). Now that I understand it, IT’S AWESOME! God is the only one who can transform us from impure and sinful to pure and holy; so ask for His wisdom before ANYONE ELSE! We want to know the Truth and keep getting even more of it. If we don’t ask for His “light,” then we will “sleep in death” or suffer in hell. That’s a really scary thought! If we remain faithful and trust in God like David did, then we will receive Jesus Christ’s perfect light!
God Bless!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I think it’s important that David says he will sing TO the Lord. We often sing of or about God–which is great & important, but it’s also imperative to sing TO Him & acknowledge Him for who He is, especially when things are not at all going well for us (as they are not going well for Dave).
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
No matter what, God loves us the same even if we are having a bad day. His love is unconditional and we should rejoice and sing of his love forever!
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Oh man, the Emotional Rollercoaster is a ride I am all too familiar with. And to think that MY feelings have enough power to affect something as POWERFUL as God’s Love is insulting.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Even though David was going through a hard time, he still trusted in the Lord. And even thoughhe had sorrow in his heart, he sang praises to God thanking Him for all he had done. We also need to be praising God in all we do. Even when we are struggling with a hardship, our focus should be on praising God for all he has done for us. He sent his only son to save us. That is our motivation in life as we await Christ’s glorious return.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
These two verses are very important, we need to be both trusting the Lord and praising Him. We need to trust in Him and not take matters into our own hands. When we try to do things our way things only get worse. We need to be praising the Lord also because we can not do the simplest thing without Him such as waking up in the morning. We need to give Him the praise he deserves in worship, prayer, and thinking about how great He is throughout the day.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I like this verse because it remembers how God is good. Even though David is REALLY depressed, he still is awesome enough to remember back to when times where good and realize that God was the same person then than he is today.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
We should take David’s example, even though he feels down in the dumps he holds on to the fact that God still loves him and he even sings because this fact makes him feel better already.
6 my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
As Pastor Mike said, we are either on God’s team or the world’s. If we are on God’s team, the world will persecute us and they will be happy and rejoice when we fall or stumble (Jesus even promised this in Matthew 10:22 and Paul in 2 Timothy 3:12 to name a couple verses). But David writes that he always trusts in God’s love and rejoices in His salvation. Nothing that the people on the world’s team can separate us from God’s unfailing love; and that’s the best part about it: it is unfailing! I am definitely going to keep this mind whenever time seem tough in my life or just having a bad day because no matter what, God’s love will be the same.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Awesome beach night!
God’s love is unfailing! How encouraging to think that I cannot lose God’s love. In our small group one of the songs that we brought up that reminded us of God’s love was Cannons. The line “I’m so unworthy but still you love me,” is an awesome reminder that God’s love is an unstoppable force in our lives! I pray that I would on the bad days, I would remember the truth of God’s love rather than giving into my feelings.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
This is the attitude that we need to have about praising God. We often get cought up in asking God for stuff, but we also need to praise him. We lose sight of the amazing feats he has done .He does so much for us and we really need to show more thankfulness.
Trusting in God’s unfailing love…. It is so amazing to think that no matter what, His love will NEVER fail. I think of Chris Tomlins song, “Unfailing Love” if you havent heard it, go listen to it, now! God is our rock and our strength we should cling to Him in everything!
5 “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.”
Just like pastor Bobby preached tonight at the beach, God’s love is not (nor does it depend on) a feeling. God does not feel good toward/about us. He loves us. It is a fact, an action. And it does not depend on our emotions or circumstances. Like pastor Bobby said, even if we’re not feeling it all, even when we’re feeling really low, God loves us in Christ (if we are Christians). His love is a firm, solid rock that does not move! Praise the Lord! Let’s remember that and depend on Him and His love.
4 my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation
As humans we cannot be perfect and our enemy will prevail sometimes. Every time I fall it feels like I just had a dialog with a demon and in the end he mocks my weakness. But in that time I also remember the love God has for me and makes me want to win the battle next time.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME, AND ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD! AMEN! and this is so true! God is good to us no matter what and He works for good for those that love him!
psalm 136:2 …..His love endures forever!
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
Wow! I know we have all had days like this. Where we feel like its the end of the world, were going to die! haha. But we HAVE to rely on God’s unfailing love for us who are Christians. Thats where verses 5 & 6 come in…
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
We’ve gotta have this attitude that David had. He knew things were tough, but he trusted in God’s love anyways!
Well… beaaach night was aaamaazing.. as always :) haha
♥always- mady :)
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I love this verse because I want that to be my own prayer to God. I want to be in a situation where I am in trouble or feeling distant, and for me to remember God’s unfailing love that never changes and never weakens and for that alone to cheer me up. Instead of just splurging on chocolate until I “feel better,” I can listen to music that reminds me of how much God loves me and cares for me. I’m never alone and never unloved. I also liked the second part of this verse that talks about rejoicing in his salvation. I mostly do this during worship where I’m singing about God’s grace and mercy. “I’m so unworthy-but you still love me…” is one of my favorite lines. For all the bad stuff I’ve done, God still uncondiontionally loves me. That gives me the greatest joy!!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
This verse illustrates perfectly the messages we heard about praise several weeks ago. God’s goodness deserves all our praise. His love ought to be praised. Therefore, not only our lives but our voices should praise the Lord. Praise the Lord who gave us voices to sing to him with!
V.6
The first thing I thought when I read this verse was God is good All the time, All the time is good! This verse also reminds me of 2 Timothy 2:13, because when we are faithless God is so faithful! He is so good!!!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
We have a reason to worship! God is so good to us, even when times are hard. He gives us life, he gives us food and clothing and shelter, he gives us other Christians who will stand by us. So even when our circumstances are bad, we need to praise him with all of our hearts!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I love how at beach night tonight we talked about how God’s love is unfailing and it’s like a contract that God signed:) This gives me such a good picture of how much God truly loves me through Jesus Christ! I need to have David’s attitude so that even when I’m having a bad day I can think back on a time when I felt God’s love and know that it is always like that! God is good ALL THE TIME! Next time when I’m having a bad day I am going to break out the “God’s love” playlist and think about God’s goodness and how unfailing his love really is!!
beach night was amazing tonight :)
What really convicted me is when bobby said that the world bases their joy off of their emotions and it is like a roller coaster. And I realized that that sometimes applies to me. I want to always be joyful because I know the Lord loves me!
Beach Night was awesome!!!! I loved talking about this chapter!!!
This psalm is an example of how we should react to trials in our lives. Some situations put us in a state of doubt and fear. However, we need to know that God never fails! He has been so good to every single one of us! By trusting Him and having faith, we will find a way out of our tough times. Praise God for His undying love and mercy!
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
I love this psalm and how Pastor Bobby talked about it at beach night! I have totally gone through days like the psalmist is talking about where it is really hard and it seems like God is hiding from me. It is so encouraging to know that God loves me as much on my bad days as on my good days because I am in Christ. God doesn’t love me any less when I sin compared to when I do the right thing! That is so awesome to know that God’s love is unfailing and unstoppable! When I am having a hard time like the psalmist in this verse I need to remember God’s love in my life and in the Bible! We were talking about the importantance of remembering God’s love in small groups tonight and I had never really thought about how important it truly is to be remembering this especially in hard times and I am so glad to have heard this tonight!!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
It is so amazing that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. It is amazing how God loves us unconditionally. I’m so gratefull that no matter what we do God always loves us the same and will never turn his back on us.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
What amazing verses! Great comments everyone. Verse 5 says, ‘But I trust in your unfailing love.’ NO matter what we go through, we need to remember that God loves us and he has us in certain situations/trials for a reason! At that time we may not understand why, but what gets us through it is our faith in the Lord. He uses everything for his own glory and for our good.
Verse 6 is so lovely too. God has definitely been so good to me! He loves his children and he only wants the best for us. We need to trust that! Have a great night, everyone. I miss you all very much!!
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I really like how the psalmist, even though he was discouraged, makes this devoted statement–I trust in your unfailing love. When things are not going well it is easy to question God, doubt his love and care and feel somewhat justified in having a disgruntled attitude toward him. Instead of getting caught up in feelings-oriented reactions, I want to stop and think about him and all the amazing things he has done and respond by affirming that I trust him and start rejoicing!
unfailing love…
I really like what Bobby said to night about God’s love being more than a feeling…haha I always start singing more than a feeling when I hear that… but anyways I was thinking about “God is Love” now so many “Christians” will say that when it comes to things like homosexuality, sin, other religions… but then you have to wonder…what is their definition of love. We can find God’s definition in the Bible and that is a great thing…and if we know that God is Love, we can look at the things that he does in the Bible and see what love truly is…in no instance in the Bible is Jesus like oh hey guys I know that you are sinning but that is ok, just maybe try better next time but if you don’t that is all good…that is the definition that it seems most “Christians” put on love…so we gotta be careful and love just as Christ loves…not just as the world loves….
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Loveeeee it! This is awesome after the little message tonight at beach night! Really nailed the true idea and FACT of how unfailing God’s love is! It’s really encouraging to see how God’s love is displayed and it really makes me bummed out when I don’t appreciate God’s love like I should! Ahhh God is SO good and his grace he has had upon my life and the love he has shown me! I praise Him! I pray that this verse would be my attitude!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
I really liked what Bobby had to say tonight. Emotions can be very fickle, and like in this psalm I have many times felt down as if a distance was between me and God. But even when I have sinned or am down, God doesn’t love me any less. When i feel down and unmotivated in the future, I need to remember that God can’t love or accept me anymore than He does right now and that He will be good to me like He always has been in the past. So even if the emotions aren’t there at first, I need to praise God because He is so good to me and His love never changes. And hopefully, God will fire up excitement in my heart for Him as I praise Him, but even if He doesn’t I need to remember that emotions are so fickle and worthless and shouldn’t stop me from praising God.
It’s been really encouraging for me to think through these six verses today and watch all of your comments come in! Plus it was exciting to see you all at Beach Night where we talked about this!
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Tonight I started working on the God’s Love playlist so I can remind myself of how he has been good to me even on days when I am not feeling it like I was today!
Hola my fellow True Northers! It was really hard for me to choose a verse to comment on because all of them are so good! But anywayyysss…..I decided to comment on verse 5.
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” This passage stood out to me because I live in a non-Christian family. I constantly thank God for choosing me out my entire family to be saved from eternal condemnation. By knowing ad undewrstanding this, I am determied to live a life with a more “no compromise” attitude and not let myself sulk in my selfish sadness o a bad day. Haha, that sounded funny :P This verse is so encouraging!
Psalm 13
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
David found real peace thru focusing on God’s faithfulness in his own life. As we discussed in small groups at Beach Night God has proven his faithfulness throughout history to those who are faithful. When our trust in God is marked by joy amidst times of trouble than our faith rests in the deliverance from God.
Ps 92:4 For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
We need to sing to the Lord for all Good things come from Him. Satan wants us to focus on ourselves and our personal feelings not on all the Good things God has done. Don’t fall prey to the schemes of the evil one! This is why it is so important to fill our ears and minds with music that speaks of his goodness and unfailing love.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
it is cool to think about how Gods love is unfailing. there is no one that can break the bond that we have with our creator and it is comforting to think about how much He loves us!
1 How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
I have deffinitly felt this feeling of abandonment before. but stay strong christian, the battle is not over quite yet.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
God has unfailing love for us how incredible is that when I read that in Boston I was just like unfailing Wow. Nothing and no one can break that bond we have with God. AMAZING!!!
I will rejoice in the Lord forever and sing to Him for all He has done to me and worship Him in praise.
