26 Then the man bowed down and worshiped the LORD,
48 and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD,
52 When Abraham’s servant heard what they said, he bowed down to the ground before the LORD

This shows that that one man being a light others will follow. We should bow down and fall facedown to prayer. We need to praise the Lord. We need to be a light and be an example so others may bow down

15 Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder.

This goes along great with what Bobby talked about today. God knows what we need before we ask Him in Mathew 6:8. The servant being faithful prayed to God and He answered the prayer. This is a great motivator for everyone to be praying. Let's all start praying and have a revival at our high schools.

18 "Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.

19 After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking."

Rebecca sets a great example in this chapter of a young woman who wants to follow what God has for her life. Here in these verses she is obviously ready and eager to serve Abraham's servant, which watering all of his camels would have taken her a few hours, but she was so willing to do it. I want to be characterized by that willingness and excitement to obey God, trusting that He is working.

15 Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder.

Even before the servant can finish praying, God has already answered his prayer!

This is similar to what we were talking about tonight:

Matthew 7:7-8 - "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

Let's pray expecting an answer!

The people in this chapter really put a lot of faith in God. The servant chose Isaac's wife based on God's choice and Rebeka and her family all followed through with God's decision. On top of that, Abraham followed God's choice that he shouldn't let his son get married to someone of another race or religion. We need to let God choose what we do instead of base it all on what we think, and we need to follow through and complete his tasks.

This describes what our faithfulness should be like in the LORD. These people relied on God's guidance in ALL circumstances and never thought 'we can do it ourselves.' They prayed faithfully (like the servant), begging God for their guidance. This is just another thing we need to be praying about: faith in the Lord!

42 "When I came to the spring today, I said, 'O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come.

This verse made me remember how we should be asking for God's will in things when we pray, and not our will. He asked the Lord's will, and he was granted success - I think it's encouraging that when we pray, we can always ask for God's will in knowing that He will lead us to the right path.

19 After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking."

20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels.

Not only did Rebekah give water to the servant, but she ran all the way back to the trough to fill the jar up again and she gave that water to his camels to. That is a real servant of the Lord right there. How much are we willing to serve the Lord? Today at Church, i was setting up chairs after running 3 laps around the Church and I was sweaty and tired. I finally finished setting up chairs and was about to leave and get some water, but then Tate came up to me and asked me if I can look at every chair in the left isle and make sure there were Bibles in all of them. I was like NO inside, but I did it anyways. I wasn't happy with it because I was tired so I almost decided to just leave and not even listen to Tate, but then I remembered that I should be doing this to serve the Lord, and I didn't want to miss out on that opportunity. So as tired as I was, I still filled the chairs with Bibles and did it with a joyful heart. It wasn't even that hard anyways, I was just being a big baby. :) We should be wanting to serve the Lord as much as we can. If somebody asks us to do something, then do it with a joyful heart. And in fact after your done with that, you should be asking him if you can do anything else! This will definitely please the Lord and you will be rewarded for it one day!

What an awesome chapter!

50 Laban and Bethuel answered, "This is from the LORD; we can say nothing to you one way or the other.

I dont even have a child and this seems like it would be so hard to just give him/her up to a complete stranger to have her married. This is major trust here!! These people trusted that God was with this man and that he was telling the truth and not just some crazy guy. That is such an amazing act of trust in God!

Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and left, taking with him all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor.

11 He had the camels kneel down near the well outside the town; it was toward evening, the time the women go out to draw water.

12 Then he prayed, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

13 See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water.

14 May it be that when I say to a girl, 'Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too'-let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master."

15 Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor.

______

50 Laban and Bethuel answered, "This is from the LORD; we can say nothing to you one way or the other

=====================
This is like totally awsome! its like Matthew 7:8-12. when the servant from the passage prayed to God and asked for the perfect wife for Issac , God granted his wish. He asked and he was answered; he was looking for something and he found it. like Pastor Bobby said at the sermon, how can we have a healthy relationship if we dont talk to that person? If you're a Christian, we should be praying to God. Besides, if we keep secrets from Him, it will be proclaimed into the heavens when the time comes anyway.

you guys did really long comments.
BAPTISM TOMMORROW! AWSOME!!!

16 The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

Not only did Rebekah have beauty on the outside but also inner beauty like Bobby talked about in his sermon tonight. She went beyond the expected custom of giving water to a weary traveler and was a servant even to Eliezar's animals. This attitude of service is one we all need to imitate.

48and I bowed down and worshiped theLord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master's brother for his son.

I loved the response of Abraham's servants finding of Isaac's wife he bowed downed and worshiped God. when God does amazing things for is in our life we ways need to praise God! show Him how thankful we are for all He does in our lives. I also liked this verse because God will always lead us to where we want to go, and sometimes we can wonder why is this happening and don't understand how it will help us but God has His reasons and it's all part of His master plan for us

I love the faith shown by everyone in this chapter! Abraham had faith that God would provide a wife for his son and that she would come back with his servant...His servant had faith that God would show him the correct girl for Isaac...Rebeka had faith in God to go back with the servant to Isaac. This is the kinda faith we need! Always trusting God and his promises...

BAPTISM TOMORROW!

This entire chapter shows how soveriegn God is over our lives. We do a lot of worrying about our futures- what our jobs are going to be, who we're going to marry, etc. God has EVERYTHING planned out for us, and He'll guide our lives if we let Him. We need to never forget that!

Another good turnout from prayer! Yeah, just like Pastor Bobby said, we need to expect results from our prayer. Abraham's servant trusted God enough to know that he would provide.

It is encouraging to see Abraham had learned from some of the mistakes he had made in the past where he took matters into his own hands. Abraham fully trusted God in this situation for the correct wife for his son Isaac to be found. When he put his trust in God, we see that God did provide a wife, even though arranged, by making sure it would be a happy marriage.

Hurray! Baptisms are 2morrow! I can't wait to support everybody getting baptised! It's going to be such an exciting day of overjoyment! The angels are going to party so hard up in heaven! XD

God is sooo amazing. He totallly planned out everything, from the oath, to the servant praying to God, meeting Rebecka (who is the one to soon be Issac's wife). to having the permission from her family to take her to the land and best of all she is not a daughter of the Canaanites but the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor (basically in Abraham's roots). But God is so cool like that every little detail counts. But we should all be thanking and praising the lord, for how he is always watching us for whenever we need help by just having faith in him.

1 Abraham was now old and well advanced in years, and the LORD had blessed him in every way.

Wow! I thought it was awesome that it said Abraham was blessed in EVERY WAY.

50 Laban and Bethuel answered, "This is from the LORD; we can say nothing to you one way or the other.

I also love the example of unquestioning obedience to God. Way too often do we question God's will and try to find ways out of obedience, especially when it involves doing something we don't really want to do. I see this the most when people realize they have to cut off a relationship that is unglorifying to God or people are also very hesitant to evangelize because they might be uncomfortable. The people here were giving their daughter to married to a complete stranger, and that took unquestioning faith!

26 Then the man bowed down and worshiped the LORD,
27 saying, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives."

Abraham's servant's reaction to finding the right woman is a great example for us today. God has just shown him who he is looking for. His immediate reaction is to bow down and praise God. He didn't wait one minute, right after he found out Rebekah was the one God has chosen, he worships God then and there. What a great guy! He didn't take ANY of the glory; he gave it all to God right away. He praised God, becuase he knew without God he could have never found her. Today we have to respond to all the good things God gives us like this. We have to immediately praise God, because He's the one who gives s all the good things we have! He so amazing and He gives us all we need, the least we can do is praise Him for it! He deserves all the glory and we need to give it to Him! Let's be like Abraham's servant and imediately give thanks to God!

2 He said to the chief servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, "Put your hand under my thigh.
3 I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,
4 but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac."

Ha! We went over this chapter in AWANAs a couple weeks ago with the children! Bonnie Hamilton did a great job explaining this to them and she is definitely being used by God! Thank you Lord for providing her to teach your Word to the kids! AND me! I never knew about this part of the chapter until she went over it! I find it fascinating how God always provides, even when you forget to thank Him for it. AND just look what he did for Abraham! wowzers it's incredible! God gave Isaac a wife, and not just any wife, but a wife he truly loves! Why do so many people worry about who they're going to marry or if they ever will get married? God knows His plans, don't get in the way of it. If you try to take control, you will definitely fail. Trust that God will provide you with someone and don't worry about it! Look at Isaac. He was a very blessed man because he trusted in God. He was very righteous, the exact quality that we should all be looking for one day when the time comes. :D

Abraham's servant shows true faith just like his master had in the past chapters. He depends on God, patiently waits for God's will, continually praises God, and tells Abraham's family about all the wonderful things God has been doing. He is truly serving God with all his heart, and even refuses to eat until he has done his task. I liked especially how the servant thanks and praises God immediately and constantly. I'm sad to say that many times when God answers my prayers I forget to acknowledge and thank Him for it, or if I do, its not right away. We need to have this kind of faith in the Lord, depending on Him for everything, praising Him immediately when He answers prayer, and telling others about all the wonderful things He has done.

10 Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and left, taking with him all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor.

Here we see a good idea of how we should serve GOD. With all of our heart and mind. We should serve him with all of our strength. This servant swore an oath to his master, and no matter what he thought, he didn't stop until he had suceeded.

I can't wait to meet all these amazing characters from the old testament. Their faith was unbelievable.

I am excited about baptism tomorrow as we have so many high schoolers and junior high school students dedicating their lives to serving the Lord. My daughter will too be baptised making it all 4 of the Burke's... Praise God.

I love how God had blessed Abraham in so many ways!! His servant was faithful to every word Abraham asked of him. The servant trusted God and the first woman he approached was the one that God provided for Abraham's son. Its encouraging to read chapters like this because it shows God's everlasting goodness and how he works.

3 I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, 4 but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac."

Pretty Powerfull; test of devotion to the LORD, "the God of Heaven and the God of earth." God of all things.

52 When Abraham's servant heard what they said, he bowed down to the ground before the LORD.

Perfect example. We fall face down before the LORD. Thank the Lord.

SWEET!!! Baptism tomorrow :)

3 I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,
4 but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac."

I really enjoyed this chapter. There are so many examples of faithfulness and a willingness to serve that should inspire us all. Today my focus is on the verse above. I think as young people dating can really consume our thoughts and our minds. We often forget what is important and center our attention on trivial, insignificant attributes of the opposite sex. I have heard things like…He is so funny, she is really cute or he is so romantic. What I often wonder when listening to these conversations is…what about God?

When I look at the example of Abraham, I am taken by a few key factors. Abraham knows that the time has come for Isaac to marry. He knows that a wife from the Canaanites is unacceptable .He sends his servant to his own relatives to get a wife for his son. Abraham takes the lead role in finding someone suitable for his son. Do we have any concerns for the thoughts of our parents when looking for love? I also like the fact that Abraham knows the time is right for his son to marry. How often do we begin dating, sometimes way to early, having no thought towards the future or the opinion of our parents, just to have the relationship end in heartbreak? Abraham proclaims that his son will not marry from the daughters of the Canaanites. The Canaanites can be a great representation of the world. When we are considering dating as a means to marriage the world should never be an option!

Abraham placed his faith in the Lord when seeking a suitable spouse for his son. Isaac was truly blessed with a wife that he deeply loved. When the time arrives for each of you to consider marriage I would hope that you would never be swayed by quick wit or a beauty that fades. I Pray that you would long for a heart that seeks the Lord and loves Him above all else.

Echoing what Ben said...what a great chapter of God providing...Obedience lead to Isaac marrying a wife and even though the plan of finding rebekah seemed a little impossible God allowed for everything to go his way.

All these stories of obedience are helpful to me, right now im going through a couple of trials calling me to respect my parents rules and even though i want the opposite of what they are asking, i know i will be rewarded for obeying them.

26 Then the man bowed down and worshiped the LORD, 27 saying, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives."

Abraham's servent had a sincere heart. After God had answered his prayer of success he immediatly fell to the ground and praised God for what he had done. When we have a prayer thats answered we just say, "O, why thank you God. Talk to you later maybe." We need to learn greatly from this man. We need to praise God with all our hearts. Even if He doesn't answere a prayer we have been praying for we still should praise Him greatly for He was His reasons. His better, perfect reasons.

I love how this chapter displays the faithfulness of God in both the big and little things. One one level, we see God faithfully providing a wife for Isaac by answering the servant's prayer. On a much grander level, we see God continuing to keep his promises to Abraham--he is going to make him into a great nation through which the whole earth will be blessed! And as we look forward to the future, we can be sure that God will be faithful in smaller things like providing for our needs and in the bigger things like fulfilling his promises to return!

The power of prayer is so manifest in this situation. Abrahams servant is looking for a needle in a haystack. He is trying to find a wife for his masters son in a far away city! But he relied on God. And God provided!!! I thought it was so cool that before he had even finished praying, she had already approached the well. And then she did exactly as the servant had asked God to have her do. I think sometimes we underestimate the power behind prayer. It is so important that we are setting aside time on a daily basis to pray and fellowship with God!

James 5:16b says, "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

12 Then he prayed, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

Abraham showed a lot of faith in his prayer, I think God would be pleased to hear and seeing in your heart that you are relying and trusting in Him. God blessed Abraham in every way in verse 1 it talks about it. We need to be praying to the Lord continually! We need to also pray for all the pastor's sermons at Compass Bible Church and pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven, His kingdom come, and praying for God's agenda things that God wants!

I too am encouraged by the faithful dependence this servant shows toward the Lord in what is about to come about. He knows that it will only be by God's grace and guidance that he will accomplish his task. Let us remember that we can do NOTHING good apart from Him and may we daily draw from His strength.

48 and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master's brother for his son.

this chapter is so cool! it is amazing how the Lord planned all of this out before it happened and told the servant what would happen and what to do. this passage gives us a reminder about the sovreignity of God. He can do whatever He wants, whenever He wants. Notice also that this marriage was arranged, but that they loved each other. the Lord did not make Rebekah a wife that was unwanted, but a wife that was loved

12 Then he prayed, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

Abraham's servant demonstrated dependence on God for the success of his mission with prayer. Too often we, myself included, go about our day without recognizing that we are totally dependent on God for success. John 15:5 states that apart from Jesus we can do nothing. Let us recognize our dependence on God today by spending quality time with him in prayer.

26 Then the man bowed down and worshiped the LORD,27 saying, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives."
48 and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master's brother for his son.

We see in verses 26-27 and again in verse 48 that Abraham's servant responded to God's quick answer to his prayers by immediately praising God. This got me thinking...is this my response when God answers my prayers? Do I stop what I am doing and spend time on my knees thanking God for His gracious answer to my prayer, or do I throw up a quick, "thanks, God" and continue about my day. When God answers our prayers it is a big deal because He is under no obligation to do so. Sometimes we treat God disrespectfully and act like He was created to answer our requests. The truth is that we were created to bring God glory and do what He wills for us. Let the example of Abraham's servant spur us on to have a reverent, praise-filled attitude when God grants our requests.

7 "The LORD, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father's household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, 'To your offspring I will give this land'-he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.

Now you can see that Abraham has learned to trust fully in God's promises. Instead of having doubts he knows in his heart that God will be faithful with this promise because he has been faithful with all his other promises before. If we do the same and look back at the past grace that God has shown us that should lead us to having true hope in his future grace that in the end we will surpass God's wrath and go to heaven. The biggest example of promise fulfilled is when God sent his one and only son to die for us so that we could be saved.

56 But he said to them, "Do not detain me, now that the LORD has granted success to my journey. Send me on my way so I may go to my master."

Throughout this passage, the servant is looking to the Lord for help in finding Isaac a wife. After the Lord has provided Rebekah, he immediately praises the Lord for his provisions. In this verse, the servant credits the Lord for allowing him to find a wife for his master. The servant immediately acknowledges the Lord's working in this situation and takes no credit for himself. In our lives, I think we are quick to ask the Lord for help, but not quick to give him thanks for his provisions. We ask the Lord to help us do well on a test, but when we receive an A, we gloat of our abilities. Let's not forget that the Lord is the great provider! Psalm 103:1-5.

26 Then the man bowed down and worshiped the LORD,
48 and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD,
52 When Abraham's servant heard what they said, he bowed down to the ground before the LORD.

Abraham's servent was very loyal to him and to the LORD. He followed everything that Abraham said and he always worshiped the LORD when the better happened like in verse 26 when Rebekah gave the servant and his camels water and in 52 when Rebekah said she would go to Isaac. It was just as Abraham said that the LORD would send an angel for his servant to find a wife. Also, he was being loyal to the LORD for everytime the angel helped, he would stop and worship the LORD, right then and there. That is just awesome; we should be like this worshipping the LORD whenever he does work in our lives.

This got me thinking of how we should all be praying. Praising the Lord our God to the highest before we even say what we are thankful for or asking for help.

Tomorrow is baptism guys! woot woot

Well we can clearly see the quality traits of servants in this chapter. Abraham is a servant to God, the steward is a servant to both Abraham and God, and Rebekah being newly wed will serve Isaac while already serving God. This selflessness and immidiate willing heart to obey and serve each persons master is something we can definetly learn from. We all get into a self absorbed, what I need mindset and that hinders us from serving others. We are given gifts so that we can serve others with them. (1 Peter 4:10) But all throughout the Bible you can find verses that support the fact that we need to (most importantly) serve God and also serve others.
I watch and hope for you Lord!
