Hebrews 9

The Earthly Holy Place

9:1 Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence. It is called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people. By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, 10 but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.

Redemption Through the Blood of Christ

11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. 16 For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. 17 For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood. 19 For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.” 21 And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. 22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

23 Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. (ESV)

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 11,”But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)”

I like this verse because it talks about JESUS being the one and only perfect sacrifice. JESUS is the only one who can take our sins away. HE is the only acceptable sacrifice and even when we were HIS enemies HE died for us. I don’t deserve this love so I must love back because HE loved me first I also must follow HIS example and love others.

  2. Dave Hosford praying for revival before He comes says:

Heb 9:14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Someone has to pay for the sin God hates: blood had to flow again and again until Jesus paid it all! And this allows us to be free and serve the Living God! Thank You LORD and please come soon!

  3. Stacy Perkins says:

26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

The buck stops HERE: with Jesus. A great segue from Pastor Mike’s sermon in Big Church this weekend on sanctification. Let us wash our brains (thank you, Chirsta! :) ) of the sick thinking that there is something we can DO to earn our salvation, or as recompense for it.

Or ChRIsta, how ’bout. Not ChIRsta. The mornings–not my best time of consciousness, and certainly not accuracy! HAHA!

  4. Cameron says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

At Christ’s first coming, He entered the world as a humble baby. He then grew up and was tempted like you and I, but did not fall. He then was beaten and crucified, and had God’s cup of wrath designed for you and I poured out upon Him. Christ’s first coming was about Him dying for our sins. This verse tells us when Christ returns for the second time, we will be saved. This doesn’t mean that you and I aren’t saved now, but our full and total salvation will be realized. We will get new, resurrected bodies, we will be perfect, and we will be with Christ! Instead of coming as a man, He will come in His full glory, and we will be caught up into the air with Him (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17).

One part that struck me the most about this passage is how He is coming for those who eagerly are waiting for Him. Everyday we need to live like it is our last day on this earth, because Christ is coming quickly! We need to be witnessing to non Christians and living holy lives because of this. As Christians, the one thing that would should want more than anything else is for God to return, so that we can see the face of the One who saved us! I need to be living with more eagerness in anticipation of Christ’s return. I pray that the cry of my heart would echo Paul’s cry, who said “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Come get me Lord Jesus!!!

Thank you for that lovely reminder of the song Paid It All, Mr. Hosford! I’m lovin it!

IIIIII can’t wait for Jesus Christ to return to bring His people up! I’m stoked because I know that I will be taken up with Him. I’m sure most all of us on this website are stoked out of their mind too! He’s coming back so we can be with Him! I know I’ve asked this in the past BUT, are youuu ready? Personally, I would like to be doing something for His glory when He returns SO I pray Lord that I will remember that everything I do is for you! MARANATHA! :D

  6. Beth Lauder says:

7 but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people.

Hebrews 9 is a thorough description of the old covenant;the tabernacle, furniture, and priestly duties. Verse 7 stood out to me because it reminded me how separate the average worshipper was from the LORD. The place where God dwelt among the Israelites was in the Holy of Holies, but only the High Pries could go in there and even then, he could only go once a year. The High Priest entered the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur for the sole purpose of atoning for his sins and the sins of the people. Entering the Holy of Holies was so intense that the High Priest went in, did his duties quickly, and went right out. I am struck by the beauty of the closeness to God we have in the new covenant. The Holy Spirit now dwells inside each believer giving us constant, personal relationship with God. This is huge! The people who lived under the old covenant could not even fathom having direct access to God, and we have it! Do we appreciate it? Today I am thankful that there is no separation between myself and God. I am committed to seeking Him daily through the reading of His Word and several times a day in prayer. I have unlimited access to my Lord and I am going to take full advantage of it!

    Verse 28
“so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. (ESV)”

Hey, that’s us-”to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” I cannot wait until I get to see my Savior who shed His blood for me. How awesome will it be to live with Him forever and see Him everyday in heaven, where there is no sin and no sadness. That will be a great day when we enter the Kingdom of God.

  8. Brittany says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

I love this verse because Jesus died for our sins because of his love for us and rose again! I love how it says he will come back a second time for those who are eagerly waiting for him.

    PRETTY AWESOME! :)

I love especially when the verse says, “not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Eagerly waiting, can hardly wait, anticipating, excited, uncontrolable excitement, and many more words are what us “eagerly waiters” feel! Am I right? I know I cannot WAIT for the day when my Heavenly Father comes down and takes me into Heaven and I’ll no longer be struggling here on earth with sin, temptation, loads of homework, or anything else. *ahhhhh* The relief, disbelief, and satisfaction when I see my Lord will be undescribeable. It’s so crazy to think that one day, HE’S ACTUALLY COMING BACK. It’s something that He promises in His word, and one thing is for sure that Jesus always KEEPS PROMISES!

It will be over, and for once in our lives we’ll be perfect!!!! Sounds almost like a dream, but it’s true. Awesome-ness!

Eagerly waiting for Him. Pastor Bobby’s sermon a few weeks ago talked about how we should be prepared and WANT Jesus to come *now*. I know that we all have our earthly plans and I know that even I personally, would like to graduate from Highschool, go to college, get married, and have a few kids before Jesus comes back. But I need to realize that God has a plan and it is WAY better than anything I could ever imagine. Something I don’t really think I ever realized is that in the back of my mind, I thought “Y’know..Christ says He’s going to come back..but it’s been a while since He said that, and He hasn’t come yet..so why would He come during MY lifetime?”…God has His own plan, and I need to fit my life into it, not the other way around. Something I think we should all ask ourselves every day is: Am I ready for Jesus to come TODAY?

  11. Sτeƒƒen Eriksen says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Jesus Christ has already made his first appearance. We read about it in the Bible, of how he came down to earth and was born a baby in a manger in the little town of Bethlehem. And then Jesus grew up and went around teaching people, and living without sin, as all have failed to do. And lastly, he died on the cross to be the ultimate atonement for all of our sins. He then rose from the dead, and later returned to heaven with a promise that he would come back again. And this verse talks of his returning, his second appearance. He will not be coming to deal with sin, but will come to save his people and bring them into heaven with him. And this verse ends with “those who are eagerly waiting for him.” And this rouses the question for all Christians alive today, “Are we eagerly awaiting Christ’s return?”

I need to be asking myself this question all of the time. It is so easy to get caught up in what the world is doing or to follow after it’s next “great” thing. But really the things of this world are empty. They are hollow, not holding any true value, and deceitful, for they are trying to take everyone’s attention away from God. So if one is absorbed in the world, they won’t have a focus on God to live for him now and eagerly await his arrival. As Pastor Bobby has spoke on before, I need to keep a Maranatha mindset every day of my life. As I know that this life is temporary and fleeting, even more so should I not have a desire to let it distract me. I know that things here will turn to dust, so I need to invest my time in things eternal. I need to keep my gaze fixed upon Christ. I need to be ready at any moment for Jesus to come back. I need to be living every moment of my life to glorify him, that I won’t be ashamed of what I am doing at the moment he returns!

  12. Jenna Perry says:

First, I think this is where the Catholic religion goes wrong. In the first part of chapter 9, The Earthly Holy Place, in detail explains how the priest is the one person they go to and he takes away all their sins through the Holy Spirit. In the second half of chapter 9, it says how God has died for our sins and now we can go to him for repentance. Catholics seem to be stuck on the first half of this chapter and not seeking the second…. just a thought…

    I really like this verse…

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Christ is not only ready to hear the mournful hearts of his followers, he is eager to receive the sins of people that are not saved. He is returning one day into this sinful world and he is going to take the people who have been faithful to him through prayer and through sharing the Gospel. The fact of Jesus returning one day is frightening but exciting because seeing my Maker face to face should be the most eagerly awaited presence in your life! I know i need to be thinking that today is my last day o this earth. I dont want to regret my life here on earth and have the mind-set Jesus will return anytime :)

    I think t

  13. so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

I never actually realized that Christ offered himself as the ultimate sacrifice. That makes me feel even more convicted to stand up for the Lord and be a representation of Christ so that when the day comes where he returns, I will be waiting with open arms and maybe have some new people standing by my side through my actions. :)

I’m thinking a lot about Heaven these days because I’m reading the book Heaven, by Randy Alcorn. I am getting more and more excited about spending eternity with Christ. I’m amazed by God’s love…that he sent His own son to pay the ransom for me. Though I don’t deserve it, I get to spend eternity with Him where every tear will be wiped away. Maranatha! Thank you Jesus.

  16. Jasmine says:

15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

I am so thankful for the new covenant and that Jesus is my intercessor so I can have a personal realaionship with God. I am so excited for my eternal inheritance and I pray to live with a MARANATHA mindset everyday. I want to train myself for godliness just as an Olympic athlete would for his race. However his is just a medal that everyone will forget in years to come where I want to store my treasures in heaven.

  17. Chelseaaa says:

We are free from sin and the eternal punishment of hell. That in and of itself is enough to praise the Lord’s holy name for all of eternity. So why is it that we fear man over God himself?

  18. Kyle Dallape says:

22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

It is true that we cannot be cleansed without blood, but since Christ had taken it all for us, we do not need to worry about it. Thank gosh we have such an awesome God that loves us so much :)

I have been so excited to read through Hebrews. Just like the rest of the Bible it is a great book! I love this verse because it is a reminder that Jesus is the new covenant and that sacrificing animals to atone for our sins is done by Jesus. He is the greatest sacrifice. Last year I read through Leviticus and some of the other old testament books and it is amazing how many different rules there are in sacrificing and about the temple and the holy place. God has rules and I need to obey them. When teaching little kids the theme is usually obey God and listen to Him(and your teacher) but I need to think about that for myself. Am I obeying God? Am I obeying the teachers He has used to mentor me(including my parents)? Or am I rejecting Him and the law He gave me? I need to be 100% commited to God and obeying Him and doing as He says. He is the greatest thing EVER and sometimes I feel like I turn my back on Him. Praise the Lord for He is loving and forgiving. I DO NOT! deserve anything that I have but the Lord continues to bless me with my friends and family and so much more! Glory be to God!!! :]

27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Christ was the perfect sacrifice and only needed to die once. In the OT they were constantly having to make offerings because they kept sinning and the sacrifice of a lamb or cow was not enough to cover all their sins. But Jesus died once for all and it was done. I love verse 28 because it talks about Jesus coming again. He came the first time to deal with sin and he will come the second time to claim all those who have repented of their sins and put their faith in Christ. I’m so excited for that day to come! Maranatha!!

  22. Allen McAnlis says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

There is a time approaching where Jesus will retunr to earth to finish what He started. At this time all of His followers will meet Him up in the sky on their way to heaven. He is going to return to punish the world for it’s sins. We all need to check deep within ourselves and determine this, are we going to be with Him, or against Him? The time is growing nearer each minute and soon it will be too late to ask ourselves. We need to make sure we our living every day in preparation for Christ’s return

  23. Marissa Ramirez says:

27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

This kind of stood out to me the most. I know well we know we have sined and done bad things in life. I know I am not looking forward on judgment day when the lord talks to me about all my sins. Even if it was just a tiny little sin like txting during class. In Gods eyes its the same as murder. The thing is that we dont think of it that way that way. We dont have that kind of mind set. My tip is to think of it this way-If God was in the room would you be doing that. So ending on that note I hope everyone has a great time at small groups:)

  24. Lauren Goudge says:

Jesus sacrificed himself for everyone instead of us having to sacrifice animals, he gave up himself and hes the one who lived the perfect life and did not deserve it but did it out of love! It is so much more purifying that a perfect person used his blood to sanctify US! I know I definitely do not deserve my awesome life and I need to take this life that Christ gave me and live all out for him! He died that I might walk in his ways and because I know this I really need to live by his commands! Soo thankful for what Jesus did on the cross for my horrible sins.

  26. Katie Knudsen says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

This last statement was so powerful to me and so exciting to think about. (God is coming back!)… is what this passage is saying but this time he is coming not to die for our sins again, but to come and take all the christians up to heaven to live with him forever. I can’t even function what “forever” will be like! its miraculous to really think that WE, US CHRISTIANS are going to meet with the creator of this entire universe someday when we die. I have so many questions to ask him. I keep praying for Jesus to come back soon…MARANATHA!

  27. Garrett Edwards says:

    I read…

22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

This whole passage just really emphasises the means of Jesus Christ and how much he sacrificed for us. I want to let this shedding be known all throughout the world.

    I read…

Verse 28… “so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”

AMEN! This verse reminds us to have a Marantha mindset! Let us live every moment of our day realizing that this could be the moment when He is coming back. And let us also share the Gospel more frequently so that everyone might get the choice to hear the Gospel before He comes back, which will happen. I pray that I would be doing my best to live a holy life every moment of my life.

  29. Josh Larson says:

  30. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

9 (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper,

This chapter was AWESOME! Although this chapter has other great verses…. verse 9 also stood out to me because it really demonstates how the old law is compared to the new one. I just finished reading Leviticus and Exodus, and man they have a lot of specific rules! Reading this verse was so true in that those sacrifices and other things may have forgiven those sins, but it did not perfect the conscience. Today, Christ forgives my sin, and my conscience will be perfected eventually when I see Him! But for now, I am still a sinner, whose conscience can be perfected step by step, but will never be perfect. That doesn’t mean that I should keep sinning though! As a Christian, I should be growing in my faith each day!

  31. josh nance says:

I like this because it shows us how Jesus dies for our sins and he did it becase he loved us and thats soooo cool

  32. Jessica K says:

I think these verses are powerful because it reminds me how precious Jesus’ blood is and how holy he is. In the Old Testament, they sacrificed the clean blood of goats and sheep. Thank goodness we don’t have to do that anymore, or I’d probably eliminate a whole population of sheep. But Jesus’ blood cleansed us all because he is absolutely perfect! I am stil amazed at his love. He sacrificed himself for me, for everyone’s sins. The blood of Jesus is worth so much, and he shed it for me, for all of us, before we even existed. That is love <3 . I need to reach out to others and show Jesus' same love. Even if they do not know me, I need to love them. I need to humble myself before God to think of others before myself, because God thought of everyone before himself when he sacrificed his son Jesus Christ on the cross. I am so thankful for God's love….And as for verse 28, I can't wait until Christ returns!!:)

  33. Kelsey Collins says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Great is the day that Christ will return! There is not anything I can not wait for more in my life then the day Christ returns, or the day I go to Heaven. In revolation it talks about what the new heaven and Earth will be like and I can not imagine anything more wonderous. When I was younger I would always think that I wanted to get married and have kids before I died and went to heaven. That is deffinantly not the case now that I am a Christian. If I had the choice I would rather go to heaven then spend 100 more years here on Earth. We are, like the verse says, eagerly waiting for HIM to return. I need to prepare to be in Heaven with my God whom I love. MARANATHA!!!

  34. 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

This is such a MARANATHA verse! As we are learning through out Hebrews Christ was the final sacrafice. Every sin that was or ever will be committed against God has been washed by the blood of Christ and our payment of sin has been taken by him. And we are waiting to be saved not that we are not already saved but our salvation will be made complete when Christ returns. So as the verse says may we wait in eager anticipation when the trumpet sounds and we will be called into the clouds and will see him face to face and our salvation will be made complete.

  35. oops that was Alicia Karlsson not John… ha ha ha but I guess if we are married then we are one so it can be John.

  36. whatever works says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

I think this is an awesome verse because it descibes many points about Christ. It said that:
#1. Christ has been offered to bear sins.
#2. will appear a second time
#3. Christ saves those who awaits Him

Save those who eagerly await him definitley stood out to me. I need to make sure that I have a heart that wants Jesus to come today.

  37. Emily Knudsen says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

I LOVED this verse because it is another reminder that God is coming back!!! I can only imagine the day God comes back to earth to take all the christians to heaven, what a day! The awesome thing is that God keeps His promises therefore, we can look foreword to His coming! But we need to be ready. We need to tell others of the great news before its to late! God is coming like a thief in the night, which means He could come back tomorrow, in 10 seconds, or 10 years!!! So we cant delay to tell others! We need to stand up and tell others about God, these are people at your school, work, family, ect. God is coming back, but are you going to look back and regret not telling others of God, or rejoice that because you told them they are with you in heaven! :D

  38. Ryan Cox says:

23 Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence.

While the OT is historical, literal & true, parts of it are foreshadowings & symbols of things to come. Pastor Mike has a great illustration of how when his soon-to-be wife came to visit him in college, he didn’t ignore her so he could stare @ her picture all weekend. He spent time WITH HER! When Christ came, the OT Law was fulfilled in Him, so that the focus of all the ceremonies & rituals shifted to Christ. Why look @ a shadow when you can see the image that casts the shadow?! May we focus on the living Christ, God, not things that simply suggest or indirectly point to him…

  39. Mike says:

14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

One verse that has really been standing out to me lately is James 4.17: So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. These sins of omission can be easy to overlook, but that is a fatal mistake, for it shows apathy towards the blood of Christ! Jesus died so that my conscience could be purified and that I should no longer live in sin; so therefore, I have NO EXCUSE to make the most of every opportunity to serve the Lord.

  40. Eric Walker says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

This is a very encouraging verse. It is saying that there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel. The christian life will be very hard and at times lonesome but remember as this verse says, there is a light at the end. Jesus is coming back to save us and we will be with him in heaven for alllllll of eternity if we finish the race!! I pray that I would remember this verse next time i am feeling down and tempted and remember that it will all be worth it and I also pray that the Lord would give me the Willingness Want Repentance and Trust to stay dedicated to his team and finish the race strong!!

  41. 22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

This reminds me of how thankful I am for what Jesus did fro me! There is no forgiveness without the shedding of blood in a sacrifice. Obvioulsy, we do not sacrifice anymore because of what Christ did for us…..Jesus purified us by dying on the cross. He cast the debt of our sins upon himself. There should not be a day that goes by that we do not think about our love for Jesus Christ and what He has done. Personally, I need to give more time to meditate on this. Our sins are not longer on our account, for this we praise Him!

  42. 15 “Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance…”This verse is so encouraging, to know that we have a promised eternal inheritance, FOREVER with Jesus Christ! That is awesome. This whole chapter just make me so thankful for what the Lord did for me, all that he gives to me, and how amazing He is to forgive us. Also in verse 28 “so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” The Lord took all of my sins on the cross, so i could be saved and purified. I am so eagerly waiting for the Lord to return. I want nothing more than to see his face and praise him forever! (:

  43. Anita says:

25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Woooow, i really liked that whole chapter, but my favorite parts was that^^
The reason why i really liked 25-28 cuz it bring hope to everybody that believes and follows Jesus..that his death bears are sins.

  44. Crystal says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
This verse are a great reminder of what Jesus did for us. Without him dying, there would be no forgiveness. It also reminds me that Jesus is coming back a second time and I need to be ready.

  45. 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him

MARANATHA! Oh how i long for the day when Jesus comes back! I am so excited even thinking about it! Do you guys realize that He can come back at any moment? This makes me think, what would I want to be doing when Christ comes back.. what would I NOT want to be doing, when Christ comes back? I pray that I get up every morning and live it as if it were my last. It’d be a busy and productive day indeed! That’s how every day should be, not wasting any time, but giving all of it to God and letting him use us.

  46. Gabriel Voris 2010 says:

22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

I am so thankful for the pain and persecution that Christ went through just so I could have a chance to live with Him for eternity in Heaven. Without this sacrifice I would have nothing to cleanse me of my sin. But Christ intervened and died for my sin and i cannot repay Christ in any way for what He did for me.

  47. angela voris says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Just to think about Jesus’s return! That he gave his life up to those who have sinned, and to realize that at any moment that he may be coming back! but it really makes you think if he was to come back anytime in life what he catch you doing?

  48. Sarah G.! says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

YESSSS PRAISE TO JESUS CHRIST IN HEAVEN, MARANATHA!!!!! i can’t wait!! :)

  49. …and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Blood. Now this seems interesting… Covered with blood? Washed with blood? Purified by blood? Yet it is clear that without the blood of Jesus ‘covering’ or ‘atoning’ over us we would not be at peace with God because of our sins.

God requires perfection and if we do not come to God covered with something perfect, namely Jesus’ sinless blood (as was the common practice of sprinkling blood on the priests and the tabernacle), then our sins are naked before God to be dealt with justly. Uh oh!

Simple, our sin requires payment (blood) and for ourselves to be forgiven either we die ourselves or we have someone else’s blood shed in our place (Jesus).

And this is remarkable: Jesus died as a living sacrifice, so that we could have his blood sprinkled upon us so that we would not be guilty before God.

God sprinkled on us?! Wait, Jesus lowered himself not just to a man, but to a animal sacrifice so that we could be seen as righteous before God?

Praise Jesus for his righteous blood that gives me peace with the living God!
I didn’t deserve it, but he loved me :)

  50. Garrett says:

Jesus died on the cross for our sins so thr we can be forgiven. Are way to pay back Jesus is to worship him and read in are bibles and pray cause evry time we open the gosbel we learn more and more of ways to be living in Christ . And my friend Spencer camp brought up a good thing in bible study and that was to read your bible for the love of Jesus and not to fear Jesus cause he is not a mean god but a loving god that died on the cross for our sins

  51. katie baxter says:

13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

before the days of Jesus Christ, people were sanctified through the sacrifice of animals. But now that we have the amazing sacrifice of Jesus Christ’ perfect and holy blood, we don’t’ need to do this anymore. and verse 14 says how much more will Jesus’ blood purify us than the blood of a sacrifice did before? Jesus, who lived a blameless and sinless life, gave that up for everyone. All of our sin and evil desires were bought by a perfect sacrifice. this blows my mind every time. I need to be a lot more grateful of what Jesus Christ did, and i need to not take this for granted. Because i know that this something i definitely do not deserve. Praise God for his never ending mercy and grace!

  52. Dominic Scarmardo (Dana!) says:

14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

I always wondered as a kid hearing the story of Jesus dying for my sins why Jesus had to DIE in order for me to be forgiven. It didn’t make sense. But it says here that just like people sacrificed animals and used the blood as redemption, the blood of Christ was used to purify us all and wipe our slates clean. But I like the last part, and I almost missed it. “…purify our conscience ~~from dead works to serve the living God~~” Just because I’m forgiven through Christ doesn’t mean it ends there: I’ve got to commit my life to serving Him and repent of my “dead works” that made me dead in my sins! It requires more than accepting the truth; I also have to give my life to Him!

  53. Summer Staeb says:

Hebrews is so full of good stuff! It’s so cool to me reading here where it talks about the old covenant and the Old Testament way of sacrificing for sins, before Jesus’ sacrifice, because in the Daily Bible Reading, we just read through Exodus where it was the straight source of all this information! Whoever wrote Hebrews definitely had to be well versed in the Old Testament scriptures because their knowledge of them is shown down to a tee throughout these chapters. It’s such a great reminder that the old way of sacrificing animals and performing rituals for sins is no longer needed due to Jesus’ once and for all sacrifice that covered our sins permanently!

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

I had to comment on this verse because it just makes me want to say MARANATHA! The day is coming soon and I want to be ready! I cannot wait to meet my Savior face to face and spend an eternity with no more pain, suffering, or harm! Lord, come soon!

  54. Never Take David Personal says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Ok, I’m not the one to usually break out the MARANATHA on SOTD but this verse hit me like a freight train. I long to see my Lord and truly experience salvation. Because, although I have been saved, I have not truly experienced the full effect of salvation. This will be fulfilled in the presence of Christ. So… I will say, Oh Come, Oh Lord!!!!!!!!!

  55. Michaela Adler says:

12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

    HALLELUJAH!
How great is our God that He came down to save our sorry butts from eternal pain and suffering?
I am just so thankful that I get to spend all eternity in paradise with the Creator, the Redeemer, the Lord over EVERYTHING.
We are so unworthy, yet He loved us enough to send His Son down to die the most brutal death for us.
That fact will never completely sit in my mind because it really is just the most mind blowing thing I’ve ever heard.
Our God is so good and gracious and for that, and I’m forever thankful.
Praise Him who saved me, a sinner SO unworthy of His love, yet He gave me his love, grace, and mercies.
    And they’ll all abound forever.
I am so in awe of You God and everything You do all the time!

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

This verse is basically has maranatha written ALL over it.
I can not wait for that glorious day when I get to be in the presence of my Savior, praising Him with everything I am, face down on the ground…
    I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I CAN’T WAIT! :D

  56. kelly causky says:

13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

This chapter really shows the greatness of God compared to the uselessness of people. He is so amazing, and often I don’t give enough awe to his sacrifice. I never want to learn that astonishment in reading the Bible and learning that Jesus Christ paid it all in full and took our place in which we rightfully deserved. I want this to be my heart’s cry.

  57. Katie Slusher says:

14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Because of Christ’s sinless life, his blood was able to be sacrificed for my sin. My sinful soul has been freed because of his perfect sacrifice. I’m humbled and so thankful for my salvation. May I always remember that my sin has been forgiven because of His death!

    Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free.
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.

  58. Haley Litz says:

24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.

This verse really stuck out to me because I like how it says Christ appears in the presence of God on our behalf. Christ is the mediator. Christ is holy and lived a perfect life and died for my sins, and is my mediator with God. That is so awesome that Christ is in front of God on my behalf.

  59. 15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

These were the two verses that stood out to me the most. It is so encouraging to know that we will receive eternal inheritance with him and nothing can change that. God promised us that we will enter Heaven. I am so eager for that day and i cannot wait to see Jesus’ face, who shed his blood…for me. God sent his son and Jesus was a living sacrifice who gave his life up for sinners. The fact that Jesus gave His life for sinners blows my mind and reminds me of Romans 5:6-8. For we will RARELY die for a righteous and good person, maybe our friends or parents. But on the other hand, God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners and drowning in sin, he died for us! Christ died for us even when he knew we would reject him. That is huge and shows Gods unfailing love. I need to be thanking God each and every day for sacrificing his life for me. Praise the Lord!

  60. Christa Blakey says:

27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

It is so scary to think that people are going to die without Christ and will have to face the judgment. That is the most horrible thing I can think of, having to stand up before the holy living God without Christ to represent you. This chapter is so amazing in showing that Jesus took our place, that he, not a priest represent us before God and we are now acceptable to God in Christ. I am so excited that Jesus is coming soon and I want to live every day eagerly living in obedience to him and boldly proclaiming his gospel so that other people will be ready too. Maranatha!

  61. Jackson Dahl says:

13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

These two verses really stuck out to me. It really demonstrates how much love God really showed to us.. as before Jesus came, people atoned for their sins by the sacrificing of their best, most “perfect” animal. However, they were still animals. However, Jesus is God in human flesh! He is the most perfect being in the entire universe, and HE died for my sins! As this verse says, my conscience and desire to be righteous and war against sin should be that much greater because Jesus atoned for my sins. I am so grateful that Jesus came to earth and was the sacrifice for us, and that God gave us the Holy Spirit to keep our conscience clear! I pray that the Lord will really help me to make sure my conscience is constantly clear and pure!

  62. Austin Jones says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

One of the most impressive things about the Bible is the fact that it predicts the future in over 1,000 ways. So far about 500+ prophecies have come true. It is undoubtable that the Bible is historically accurate and to this day continues to predict the future. With all that in mind, we can read this verse and have hope and security in Christ’s return. God’s promise to return for us is coming and this verse excites me for the rapture. To think that any moment I could be instantly in heaven with my heavenly Father is like having the best Christmas present in the world and you are just waiting to get it. There is a great deal of anxiousness that I have for going to heaven and I’m eager to see our God!! Join me in praying for the return!! Maranatha!!!!!!!!!

  63. Mark says:

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

God will come again, and this time it will be to gather those who have died and are waiting for Christ to return and ressurect all the souls and enter into the New Jerusalem!!!!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. Pastor Ben says:

Past. Present. Future. All of these aspects were brought out in this chapter.

In the past, Christ has once for all paid for my sins.
In the present, I can serve the living God with a clear conscience and confidence.
In the future, I will get to fully experience the eternal promises that Jesus has secured for me.

    MARANATHA!

  65. josh senger says:

24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf

This verse is so comforting to read. Jesus is up in heaven with God the Father on my behalf. There is nobody that I would rather have fighting for me. He gave His life for me and now he is in heaven on my behalf for all of the sins that commit on earth. Jesus is so amazing and I am so blessed to be one of His children

  66. Dan Blankenship says:

    Hebrews 9

15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

Christ our Great Redeemer not only died for those who lived after Christ’s death and resurrection but he also redeemed those who had been called prior to his death. The first covenant was unable to bring salvation to those who were under the law. Jesus Christ died once for all.

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself. 28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

Praying for Dana Hills Lunch on Friday.

  67. and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Jesus is the way the truth and the life no one comes to the Father except through him.
Jesus Christ bled and died for our sins and He is the only reason that I can have a relationship with God without the help of priests, ceremonies and animal sacrifice. Thank you Jesus for providing a better way.

  68. Hey that was me up above. Just in case somebody happens to read this comment so late at night.

  69. Shelby says:

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

When things are hard I know it is important to take time to talk with God and confess sins and ask for wisdom. I need to take things to God instead of dwelling in them.
