Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant
8:1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. 4 Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. 5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.” 6 But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
8 For he finds fault with them when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. (ESV)

ELLO… I read
I like verse 12,”For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I like this verse because it talks about GOD forgiving us. GOD didn’t have to forgive us HE could have just killed us all and started over but HE didn’t. HE is even willing to forgive the very thing that put HIM on the cross. I need to remember whenever I have trouble forgiving someone that GOD forgave me first.

Heb 8:1-2 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.
We don’t follow a man made religion – we serve the Living God! Not with rules made by man but commands given by the Creator Himself for His glory and our own good. He gives us a choice… Will we respond rightly and completely as He requires? Worth praying about every day… Lord, fill me with Your Spirit of power and grace to do what You command and what I cannot do. And please come soon and find me ready in Your grace!
amen to that! Our God is an awesome God!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
This verse is great! It made me think of the song we sing that goes “a thousand times ive failed still your mercy remains,” God sent His only son to sacrifice for our many sins so we didn’t have to! Even though we still fall down we always get back up with the renewed hope that Christ died for us and gave His life. The least we could do is give our lives in everything we do for Christ! What an amazing God we worship!
.:MARANATHA:.
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
The Holy Spirit of God seals us, takes up His residence within us, and then makes His home within us. I’ve moved many times in my life. And whenever I’ve moved to a new home, it feels foreign for a little while. So I have had to thoroughly clean it from the previous owner’s nastiness, the dust and funk; I’ve had to personalize it, decorate it with the things that are me. And then I just sit back and enjoy it for a little bit. Till I make a meal and put it to use. Then I have to change a light bulb, or wash the dishes, or unclog a drain-constantly having to keep up the home so that it maintains the love, sweat, and tears that I put into it when I first got it. Making it presentable for guests when they come over, or even just for myself, when I’m chillin’ at home by myself. Constantly keeping an eye on what I may be running low on, from sugar to shampoo, from salt to soap, from toothpaste to toilet paper…
WE are like this for the Holy Spirit. WE are the house that must be de-funked! WE are the house that must be personalized by Him and made to bear the things that make us the Holy Spirit’s. WE are constantly needing to be maintained by the Holy Spirit, made presentable for others and for God Himself, when it’s just Him and me in the rare moments of calm in our life. And He is constantly taking inventory of what we have left in stock, constantly replenishing us with His soap, toilet paper, or hair product.
This morning I give thanks to our Holy Spirit Who writes His Word onto my heart, calls me His own, and makes me His people. I am my Lover’s and my Lover is mine (Song of Solomon)…
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
It is important to understand that the first covenant, the Mosaic Covenant, was not wrong, nor was it a mistake. God created the first covenant to inform Israel of the moral law, to convict them of sin, and to establish the patten of sacrifice, priesthood, and promise of salvation that is fulfilled in Christ. (ESV Study note) The reason why God initiated the new covenant was to bring humankind to a place of right-standing with Himself, where we could be completely forgiven for our sin once and for all. God does not make mistakes, all things in His plan of salvation for us are perfectly crafted to work together. I am so grateful that I live under the new covenant where I can have complete and final forgiveness of sin through Christ!
I find that Jesus Christ is not someone to take lightly. Like the chapter said, He brought Moses and His people out of Egypt (I say Jesus because He was there with God from the beginning). He also though, told them they could not enter the promise land until 40 years had passed…40 years! That’s a long time! That’s like me waiting till I’m 58 in order to go there..THAT WOULD SUCK! but through this, God raises a leader, annnd through this God fulfills His promise…and He teaches them patience! It makes me think about how God uses all gooood things for good annnnnd baaaaad things for good. Ankle issues…they are a problem in my life but I’ve learned a lot from it! It makes me think about the song by Superchick “Beauty from Pain”. In everything, God is there. Jesus Christ died for me and it ended in good. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…Proverbs..Rob Biagi. MARANATHA!
Praying for healing in your ankle and for God to use these circumstances for His glory B!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
God showed His mercy to us in that He poured out His wrath for our sins upon Jesus Christ, who was perfect. because of Christ, i no longer have to bear the wrath of God for my sins, which would be an eternity in hell, in separation from God. i am so thankful that God showed His mercy towards me! and not only that, but God has graciously given me eternal life! i am forgiven of my sins as well, though one day i will give an account to Him (2 Corinthians 5:10), my sins will not be remembered in the sense of judgment! because of Christ my sins are covered! i pray that this verse would stick with me throughout the day, and that i would also be sharing of God’s mercy and His forgiveness. i need to be worshipping God through my lifestyle and through song because of what He has done for a sinner like me.
this is such a good post cambamm….thank you jesus for covering my sin!

Good Morning!!!
Verse 10
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.”
This verse really shows us how great and powerful Jesus Christ is. He is going to put the good law into our minds forever and inscribe it on our hearts. He will be our GOD at the Right Hand of the Father and we will be His. What a fantastic life that sounds. Living with our Lord and Savior. Hallelujah!!!
Amen, Connor I was thinking the same thing. I cant wait for that day.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I like this verse because we are so sinful and i think of all the times i never wanted to forgive the person who insulted me, but God forgives us no matter what the circumstances are if we just ask for it! When it talks about God never remembering our sins, that causes me to remember all the times i would forgive someone but still feel that anger toward them. Well, God is completely opposite of that and i want to live forgiving as easily as God does and not holding grudges after i forgive!
Jenna,
Solid comment girl! You’re completely right about how we need to COMPLETELY FORGIVE one another. Like you said, when God forgives us, He genuinly forgives us and begins to love us again. Pretty powerful to think about, huh? I know it is for me because when me and my sister sometimes fight, I forgive her on the spot, but sometimes it’s not genuine.
Soemthing I defintly must work on!

I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
We are HIS, and HE is ours. To know that God has chosen us is a miracle in itself. We don’t deserve Him and He doesn’t deserve us and our sinful selves, but He chose us anyway. What an amazing blessing. We totally don’t deserve what God gave us, and continues to give us, MERCY, but He did and is, so we should REJOICE and be oh so very glad in it.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
This is so comforting to hear because it says that the LORD is an all forgiving God, and he will be there for us when we do mess up
just like a dad… but more powerful
9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
I’m so thankful for the new covenant. The Israelites didn’t keep their covenant with the Lord when He rescued them out of Egypt. They were supposed to honor Him, keep His laws. Although I always wonder at the Israelites when I read the OT, I know that in reality, I’m more like them than I want to admit. The only reason I have a relationship with God is because of Jesus and the price He paid for my sins. In this new covenant, Jesus did the work and made me a new creation. I’m now free to obey God and have a relationship with Him.
Goodmorning . . .
I read . . .
Hebrews 8 . . .
“10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.”
What does this verse perfectly describe? It describes: SUBMISSION TO THE LORD. Submit to the Lord and go UNDER His authority. Yes at times, it may seem hard to listen and OBEY the Lord when you think you have a better way out. But the Lord is NEVER wrong, and He has a reason for anything and everything. I know this is something I could defintly improve on. Trusting that my Lord will get me out of a trial, if I listen and OBEY Him. When the verse says, “…and I will be their God, and they shall be my people,” that means that we should let the Lord control and direct our lives. He is called my FATHER for a reason, that reason being He is guiding me through out my entire life.
His ways are wonderful, His ways are pure, His ways are perfect, His ways I shall endure.

12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
What a great verse!!!! The Lord forgave us!!!! For every sin we will do and have done!!!! What an amyzing thought that I do not have to suffer in Hell for eternity!!!!!Instead I get to live in Heaven with my Father for eternity!!! Because the Lord has rescued me from sin!!!!! Jesus Christ came and died on the cross for my sins!!!!!!
~~~~MARANATHA!!!!!~~~~
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.
I love how the author presents everything so logically, then at the same time shows how illogical God’s love for us is. God purposefully planned it that when the Israelites sinned, a new covenant would have to be set up so that His love could be displayed throughout the world. I love love love LOVE verse 12 because it is a direct quote from God. He promises us Christians that He will show mercy towards us and will forget our sins. What a profound thing it is to be a Christian. Its not just a title you should give yourself because you went to church your whole life or because you admire Jesus and his teachings. It means that Christ has called you His own and that God can now justly forget your sins. He forgives every thing bad that I’ve ever done or thought, and then he forgets it. Joy that we find in this fact cannot be found anywhere else. I need to be so much more thankful for the fact that God will forget my sins because it is a very very very very special privileged that are given to few people and that I had no power over; and I need to tell others about it.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.
It boggles my mind to think that my sins are totally forgiven. How is it that God, a holy God, separate from sin, can forgive me of all my sins? Why would he even want to? I don’t know but I’m so thankful that he did. Psalm 103:12, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” God can remember my sins no more because Christ paid the penalty. Thank you Jesus!
i completely know how you feel!i think the same way!!!
good comment:)
SOTDEEEEEEEEEEE!
Hebrews 8:
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I’m just imagining myself trying to forgive someone who has done many things wrong against me and just totally forget about it and totally be cool with them. That’s what God did. You can’t comprehend God’s grace…
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
That is so amazing! Reminds me of the song lyrics “Jesus paid it all,all to him I owe, sin has left a crimson stain He washed it white as snow. “Although I was a slave to sin in the past, God showed me so much undeserving mercy & didn’t remember any of that. I think about when someone does something wrong to me over and I forgive. But the next time I’ll be upset. When I wasn’t saved, an awful habit of mine would be to keep bringing their wrongs to me. Like if my sister kept borrowing my jewlery and losing it I would say oh it’s okay. And then keep bringing it up for weeks and attaching it to like if she asked me for a favor Iwould be like oh you lost my necklace. Thank God that I’m saved now! When I look at the ugliness and the weight of my old sinful nature compared to the contrast between my new self, I am astounded. His mercy is so awesome!! I should be excited to be merciful to other people and remember their sin no more like God does for me.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
…alot of people chose this verse again but i really found it encouraging, because once you become a TRUE christian and REPENT of your sin God will forget them and forgive you. This is a reminder to us of how great the Lord is to forgive us even if we do the worst sin. God looks at sin all the same, but we still have to suffer the consequences of our sin. The reason we are forgiven of our sin is because Jesus died on the cross FOR YOU and YOUR SIN. He had absolutely no sin but loved you enough to die for you. …now that’s love <3
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
This is a great verse because it is so amazing to think that the Lord can forgive and forget my sins comepletely. That is really comforting.
8 For he finds fault with them when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,…
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
This section is amazing! It is quoted from Jeremiah 31:31-34 (c.f. Ezekiel 36:25-27). Instead of following a set of rules to earn salvation by external conformity, Gods plan was to change people from the inside out through the redemptive work of Jesus the Messiah. These people have God’s laws written are their hearts of flesh because the heart of stone was removed by the Chief Heart Surgeon, God himself. I need to see myself as the recipent of a heart transplant and thus I will never be fooled into thinking that I had any part in my salvation. All a patient can do is lie on the operating table and trust in the Dr. who performs the surgery.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
The grace of our God is one of the most incredible things in existence. The fact that we were so doomed because of our sin, deserving absolutely nothing but punishment, yet his grace is so great that he would forgive us of every one of our sins, simply out of his love for us. By sending his son to die that our slate might be wiped clean, God demonstrated such an extraordinary amount of grace. I am so thankful for God’s amazing grace, and I pray that he will help me show his love and grace to everyone around me, that they might see him in me. I want to worship the Lord with my whole heart, not just 90%, or for the most part. He deserves everything I am, and I want to show him how grateful I am of his unending grace.
8 For he finds fault with them when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
That is amazing! God would do that to the Israelites?? He’s allowing them to star fresh with a new covenant, that is more awesome?? Sweet! Unfortunatly, some Jews ignored the signs and the prophecies that are mostly in Isaiah. Too bad for them! They will not experience the better covenant! When I look at this verse again, it really is amazing how the Jews at the time of Jesus did not believe that! But, I guess that is all part of God’s plan, because if everyone actually followed Christ, there would be no one to evangelize to!
I read…
Verse 12… “For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.’”
When I remember what Jesus had to go through to save us from the wrath of God, it blows my mind. To think that a perfect Deity would come down from Heaven to a messed up sinful world is incomprehensible. In response to this, I think, what if God’s plan did not work and no one was saved? Although this is not true, we need to spread the Gospel so that God might use us and thus we will be rewarded and blessed. I pray that my efforts in evangelism will not be futile but that God would reap His harvest through me.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
This is so unbelievably amazing to know. It is so good to know that God is forgiving and that He will not hold my sins against me. He is faithful to us and merciful in the fact that He does not give us the punishment we deserve. We are so lucky to have such a forgiving God who will always be there for us and care for us.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
This verse is one of my favorites! I love how the Lord speaks of binding us to him and how it shall be known that we are his because his law will be in our minds, therefore affecting our actions. And the “I will be their God, and they shall be my people” is such a strong phrase, it makes me so proud and glad to know that God loves me. It also makes me want to do anything he asks, because he has had mercy on me, forgiven and accepted me despite my sin.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
This verse stood out to me because i liked how it said, “for they shall all know me.” The reason i liked it is because it reminded me of the passage in the bible saying, one day EVERY knee will bow! Which is so powerful!!! Even the people that completely doubt God will one day realize that they were all wrong. So its up to us as Gods followers to warn and tell others of the great news because one day we will stand before God and be judged on EVERYTHING! Don`t regret not telling others about God, stand up for Him and do it!!!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
Yeah, this verse really sticks out to me!Like Meisha said, it is amazing that God can forgive us like that!He is holy and so set apart from sin!I feel like Im so undeserving of His mercy. This is yet another thing that amazes me about God. If i were to be God, i would find it so hard to forgive people when they continuously sin against me, and some of the time, well most of the time, dont even care! I need to make sure im aware of what i do all the time!
maranatha!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I really liked this verse! Before we become a Christian no matter how many bad things we commited God will still love us and forget all there sins previous to the moment we become a Christian. In Galations 1 it talkes about how Paul persecuted Christians and tried to destroy the church of God, but became an amazing man of God in the end. God can transform so so sooo many lives no matter how many sins we have commited. God is so amazing that he sent His own son to die to save terrible sinners like us. It truely doesnt make sense, but that is becuase Gods love is like none other. The least I can do in return is obey Him in absolutly everything I do. We are called to be holy just like God and I have to pray to attain that. God deserves to be glorified in everything I do, for the amazing things Hes done.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I love this verse because it shows the mercy of our God! It is so amazing that He will just forget all of our wrong doings and sins if we continue to live our lives to glorify God! God loves us for who we are despite the sins that we carry! God is so merciful!
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
I saw a lot of what the author of this book is trying to do: establish that Jesus came so we no longer need the Jewish covenant. God created a new covenant through Jesus Christ, by whom we are completely forgiven and our sins forgotten. That makes the old covenant (Judaism) obsolete: Jesus is proof!
My favorite is hebrews 8:12
God says he will remeber our sins nomore. I like this because, God didn’t have to give his only son to free us of our sins. He did this because, he loves us. I love that God can forgives no matter what, and he will always love us.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
this is such a great thing. i have such a huge dept that i desserve hell but i dont have to worry about it because Jesus paid it. there is nothing i can do to not get hell. i need to remember this all the time so i dont fall into a legalistic sense that i need to do things to obtain hevan. there is nothing i can do, but because Jesus did this and i love Him sooooo much i will do what He says and it wont be burdomsom.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good spelling! Tehehe Jay kay! But nice post! You even applied it to chapel today
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I love these verses! How true and encouraging to think about!:) I cannot wait for the day that the Lord will return and every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is God! They will all know that God is Lord. But for now, I need to spread the word and share the gospel as much as I can, because I don’t know when the Lord will return and I want to be his good and faithful servant.
It amazes me as well as the rest of you who chose this last verse at how forgiving God is!:D He deserves so much and I deserve so little, yet he gave it all. He gave the ultimate sacrifice and display of love. It is comforting and encouraging to remember God’s unending forgiveness and forgetting our sins<3
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,and I will remember their sins no more.”
Thank the Lord so much that for believing in Him, He takes all of our sins away. Because of this we should look at life as a way to please Him and do work for Him. In my like i need to make sure I am being Christ-like in everything I do, so that I can be a light for Him.
Hebrews 8:13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Jesus was the fulfillment of the old covenant or promise. That through Him and His death, the old covenant rituals have become obsolete. Through Jesus being the ultimate sacrifice, no more burnt offerings for an atonement of sin are needed. Through our faith in Him and what He did for us, we are forgiven.
This new covenant is what Christians are to obey and apply. The old covenant is still applicable in the lessons taught because God does not change and He deserves obedience. I just do not have to give up an offering for my sin because Jesus was the ultimate sin offering. Through this, I need to have a longing to sin less, and obey God more because of what He has done for me.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
The point of the Mosaic covenant was to reveal the inadequancy of the Israelites and the need of a sacrifice. They could not perfectly keep the law, which meant the continual need for a priest and sacrifice. With the new covenant, our sin can be completely forgiven because of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice! Vs 12 talks about our sins being remembered no more. How awesome that we no longer need to sacrifice for our sins because of Christ’s death! The first covenant established my need for a Savior because it revealed my inadequacy to save myself. I cannot be sinless, I need a Savior to completely remove my sins. Praise him for the salvation that I can not earn!
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
I am so excited for when I will be in heaven with the LORD and everyone will know him! I won’t have to be seeing a whole bunch of sin from my life and from others. We will all be praising God for all that he does for us! There is so much to look forward to for the day when we get to go to heaven. No more sin, no more sadness, and no more shame! I need to make sure that I am living my life with heaven as my motivation and that I will get to see the LORD!! I am so excited and I am praying that it will show in my life.
MARANATHA!!
i love this post! you pump me up for that day girlie….see you at the cesspool of wickedness tomorrow<333
12 “For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sin no more.”
I completely deserve Hell, there is nothing I have done or could do that can save me from going to Hell. I need to remember this so I don’t fall into the idea of obtaining stuff on earth to get into Heaven. It is because of Jesus that I have eternal life, and that is the only reason. I need to keep this in mind.
!!!MARANATHA!!!
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
I agree with Beth on this verse! God did not mess up when he made the first covenant to the Israelites, he wanted to reveal to them their sin, and make them aware that a sacrifice was necessary to cover up their sin. However, the first covenant God made was not permanent. The sacrifice of an animal by the priests could not completely solve our problem with sin. We needed a perfect human being to live a perfect life and take on all of our sufferings and all of God’s wrath in order that our sinful lives might be traded with his perfect life. That person was Jesus Christ! Whenever I think about this is gets me excited! Its so cool to know that God had a plan from the very beginning. Even when he made the covenant with the Israelites in the wilderness, he knew that he would send his Son, Jesus to make the covenant permanent. Thank you Lord for caring about us enough to send your Son to die and suffer for my sins. And thank you Jesus for enduring the suffering that I deserve! <3
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I just love this verse because he is showing what he did for us, the mercy that he had, that he died for our sins. He could have left us to suffer in our sins, but he decided to save us and I am so thankful for what he did. I just need to remember that whenever I don’t forgive someone for what they did, to remember what he did for us and how he forgave us from sin.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
The Lord forgives us for all of our sin and all of our shortcomings and I am so thankful for this. The Lord forgives me no matter what, even though He hates sin with a passion like nobody else. I pray that I would be more like Christ each and every day and that I would be willing to die preaching the Gospel just as Christ died for me.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
The new covenant was the only way for us to be blameless standing before God. The old covenant with the Israelites did not go faultlessly, as this verse says. The animals they sacrificed because of their sins did nothing to make them right before God, so it was necessary that a perfect man die in the place of us. I am so thankful that Jesus Christ paid it all for me and that I am completely covered through the blood he shed!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
We owe everything to God, that He will forgive us our sins and not hold them against us. I pray that everyday, more people would realize what Christ and God have done for them and turn away from their sin to walk the path He set for us. God needs to be foremost in our minds and hearts at all times.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
God is so forgiving! He separated our sin as far from the east to the west, and all our sin for the rest of our lives (as Christians) is wiped clean if we confess it and repent. God is so amazingly perfect, only He could forgive this much. I need to have more of a Christ like attitude of forgiving towards people!
you are so spiritually attractive
10 I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
How awesome is it that God can completely change our heart and mind to obey him and provide us with the holy spirit to help us obey God and remember his word at all times. God chose to save us and make us his people so someday we will glorify him in Heaven.
2 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
This verse is great! it really reminds me of how merciful the Lord is. He is awesome. I just need to make sure I am not knowing he will forgive me and sin anyways, by being reminded that God himself is merciful, and forgiveness is not just an action, it helps me resist temptation. This verse also reminds me of how much the Lord really cares for us. I am so thankful. I need to praise him more!
God’s two covenants:
1.) Earthly priests, presenting earthly sacrifices, to atone for the sins of earthly people on earthly earth.
2.) Heavenly priest (Jesus), presenting himself as a heavenly sacrifice, to atone for our sins so that we could be citizens of heaven, by God.
The sacrifice of an animal couldn’t suffice for the sins of man. A perfect man was in requirement to atone for our sins, namely Jesus.
God made a Way, and since we didn’t do it, He did it himself. In other words, God provided a Way through the Law, but the just did it himself. Much better that way.
So, never can I boast before God. He lived the life I should of lived, died the death I should of died, and created a new life in me. He did it all…by grace.
God’s plan was and is perfect, so praise His name!
amen! once again..awesome comment(:
Thanks Allie! You are so encouraging
I definitely needed that. Yeaa (:
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I am so grateful that our God is merciful. Without the Lord’s abundant mercy, we all would be condemned to hell. Praise the Lord for his mercy!! I pray that I will give the Lord the praise he deserves in all that I do and that I will remember his abundant mercy and not get used to it or take advantage of it but that I would make war against sin!!
8:1 now the piont in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the thronw of the majesty in heaven 2 a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.
8:10 For this is the covenant that i will make with the house of israel after those days, declares the Lord:I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on there hearts, and i will be thier God, and they shall be my peopl.
8:11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one hid brother, saying know the Lord, for they shall all know me from the least of them to the greatest.
8:12 For i will be merciful toward there inquities and I will remember there sins no more.
People’s own sinful nature destroyed the first covenant. Therefore, the second covenant was made in which this sin can be completely atoned for by one perfect sacrifice, Jesus Christ. Reading through these passages was a great reminder of Jesus as the High Priest; I’ve been reading a lot of Old Testament lately, and I feel that I have not been focusing on Christ enough. Praise be to Jesus, the ultimate high priest and atonement for our sins!!
5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”
I love how Hebrews always refers back to the old testament stories. These provide real life examples of the principles described. The Jews especially knew these stories like Moses very well. This book is targeted twards them but it can also apply to us all. God was telling Moses to do things exactly the way he told them to. Just like how we need to be obedient to God and follow all of his commands. If we do this, God promises that we will be blessed.
This whole chapter was so encouraging. I love reading about the new covanent that God has made with his believers. It makes me look forward to Jesus’ second coming so much more!
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
Me and my mom are memorizing Psalm 119 together (which I totally recommend) and its put two practices into my life–more memorization and also meditiation! I never really knew what meditation was or what to do until I started memorizing-because now the Word is on my mind. Psalm 119 is all about God’s law and Davids desire to obey him…and this verse says that in the end everyone will be thinking like that! Oh glorious day…Maranatha!
Morgan,
That’s a great idea. I’m so glad that you and your mom are doing that, awesomeness!
That was really encouraging how you said that when your constantly in the word and MEMORIZING it, it’ll constantly be running around in your mind. I know that’s so much better to have running around in your mind rather than worry or anything else. (I hope that just made sence, lol)
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
God is good all the time and all the time God is good. Wow to be forgiving of everyones actions is pretty amazing. Just looking at our school and the people that do horrible stuff are forgiven by God. I also know that we dont really deserve his kindness towards us. We are all born sinners and to think that his only son paid for our sins is amazing. I am worried though since God forgives my sin; I still have to talk them over with him on judgement day. I am greatful to have such a forgiving and loving God.
This s a really good message and I need to take this to heart cause I need to give as the priest.
6 But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Jesus Christ is the real deal. The covenant that He is high priest of is so much better than the law, it is able to save once and for all and it guarantees our good standing in the eyes of God once and for all. I am encouraged because I know that the system of propitiation that God has set up for me through Jesus is real and not just a shadow of the spiritual reality. A better promise of this new covenant of grace is the gift of the Holy Spirit….we are living out verse 10!
A new covenant was coming, and now is here! A covenant so much better than the previous, that it makes the old “obsolete”.
and the amazing part it is available to all, so that all can know the salvation of God.
Praying for your lunck this Friday! See you there brother.
We–today–have a high priest, a mediator between us and God: Jesus Christ. This chapter focuses on His mediation and that God has made a new covenant with men. He has put aside the old covenant of the Law and made a new covenant so that we can be right before Him! How incredible is that? That the almighty, holy, and just God of all things would be willing to accept sinners! Praise the Lord for Jesus Christ, that through Him we can have our sins forgiven!
Jesus Christ has given us a new promise, an amazing covenant! It is that of forgiveness through faith because of grace. We don’t need a high-priest, that is in human form, because we have Jesus, our Lord, the Creator, and also the Savior. Now, we can communicate directly with God. What an amazing reality!
Again this passage us talking about Jesus being our High Priest. It talked about how he was apointed by God( he used the annalogy of the tent ). We all need to remember that God pit everything just how he wanted it. He gave us the friends we have, the trials on our life, the school we go to, everything. Sometimes we need to look at a situation as ” why did God put me in this situation”. Even Jesua followed the plan of God!
I enjoyed verses 2 because it talked about how the lord created a holy tent and not man. It proves that the lord has given us a special place that is holy and we shall not take it for granite but approciate what the lord has given us!
Hmmmm… I love the logic that the author uses. It’s so concise. He shows how Jesus is the ultimate high priest because he isn’t like the other priest being on earth but sits at the right hand of God the Father. He is in the real presence of God, a presence that doesn’t come and go with obedience but is everlasting. Also, the sacrifices of the Levitical priests were only symbols of what was yet to come. Jesus has come! Now we see the true high priest offer a sacrifice with true substance. That sacrifice has now allowed us, the recipients of God’s new convenant, to be called God’s people, to be loved and taken cared of as one of God’s own sons. What I am most thankful of is the fact that God told us himself that, “[He] will be merciful toward their iniquities, and [He] will remember their sins no more.” How great is it to know that our God is merciful and can forgive our sins. God acts in glorious ways.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.
God is so merciful. We sin against Him everyday yet He forgives us. Not only that, it says that He will remember our sins no more. Our slates have been wiped clean and with God at my side, I can make something Glorifying to Him.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
Many people have commented on this verse, and for good reason! It’s amazing. Hebrews has been going through some amazing things about how great and perfect our high priest (Jesus) is. And the effect of this mediator is forgiveness – complete forgiveness.
Like I have said in a couple sermons, I need to take this personally. MY sins are forgiven and God remembers MY sins no more! That’s awesome!
10…I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
This verse clearly outlines the way in which we draw close to God. If His laws are not in my mind and on my heart, I will not have a relationship with Him. It is one thing to just read Scripture, but another thing entirely to truly meditate on it, reflecting on God’s attributes and purpose for the verse, and how I can apply it to my life. This constant thinking about Scripture will help me greatly as i go about my days at school, keeping me closer to God through prayer and reflection on His Word. I need to be committed to making my immersion in the Scriptures a constant event; one way which i can improve in this area is to make Scripture the center of more of my conversations with Christian friends. Solid Christian brothers are not going to help you if you never discus Christ with them; i am blessed with great friends, but I need to take advantage of this by making Christ the center of our interaction.
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
When we repent of our sins and come to Jesus to be saved God gives us a new heart. God lives with us from then on. All day I try to keep my mind on God even if I’m doing work at school or something. It is aesome hoe God loves us and cares for us even though we are sinners. He still chose us as his people even though we do not meet his perfect standards.
I like this because it tells us how Jesus is going to put the good law into our minds and put it in our hearts because he loves us and he 4gives us when we fall short and thats sooo sweet.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
Our God is such a merciful God! He pours out His love and mercy every single day and he died for us and paid our debt. We deserve nothing more than burning in Hell for eternity but God saved us and i cannot wait for the day when i am in Heaven with Him! God says that he will be merciful towards our sin and wickedness. Not only will be show mercy, he will forget our sins! OUr sins will leave his memory which shows how forgiving He is. We sin against Him every single day and he forgives every single one of them and forgets they ever happened. God definitely doesnt hold grudges! I get hurt by the little things, but God faces everybody committing sins right in front of Him-even after he died for us and is such a perfect and merciful God! THis one verse makes me think about how i could go against God when he did what he did(for me) and it makes me question how i could go against him every single day when he always forgives me, is perfect, merciless, and has unfailing love for me! God is such an awesome God and i love Him for that! Praise the Lord for saving us! <3
Amen, Allie!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
Wow!!! This verse is so awesome. I am so thankful for the new covenant. God is holy and he is just but he is also loving. I am so thankful that he sent his Son to die for my sins and take on the punishment that I deserve!!!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I am so glad that God did this for me. it is amazing to think that all the sins that i have done r forgiven by God the almighty and powerful God. i am so lucky to be chosen by God as one of her children and i want to serve Him with everything i have
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
For each and every person, in their life there is sin. And God is holy, perfect, unable to be around sin. Punishment must be put into place for God to be just, and there is punishment of eternal suffering in hell for all who have sinned. Yet God has showed his grace and mercy. Though fully undeserving of anything good, God gave up his only son to come to the earth as a man and die for the sins of man. It is comforting to see “and I will remember their sins no more.” Once one becomes a Christian, he receives the full perfect resume of Jesus Christ. I am so unworthy, but still God loves me, that he sent his Son to live the perfect life that I failed to live, die the death I deserved to die, and rise from the dead to show power over death. I need to be thankful for God’s grace and mercy. They can’t be something that I take lightly, and it should show in how I live my life. I can’t, having received grace, live freely in sin expecting to receive forgiveness and grace yet again. Instead, I need to take the grace and mercy that I have received and look at the situation as starting over. And though I will always fall, I can find forgiveness in the mercy that I am not receiving the punishment that I deserve, for Jesus has paid it all, and all to him I owe!
13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
It’s so great that we aren’t bound by the imperfect and obsolete first covenant. being bound by the laws about sacrifices and all of the other things that the Israelites had to go through to be clean. the fact that christ died for us and allowed us to avoid all of this gives me a good reason to be greatful to him. knowing that he gave us this gift and then disobeying him is an easy way of getting him angry, which is exactly what I don’t want to do.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
Wow I am soooo excited for this time!! How AMAZING will that be? To not have to share the gospel because everyone KNOWS, everyone is glorifying God, no one doubts Him! That will be such perfect fellowship!! I love the last line “I will remember their sins no more”…wow how beautiful! I deserve punishment for my sins yet God will not look at me and see every way that I have disobeyed, insulted, and hurt Him but will see (and does see!) the perfection of Jesus… I am SO unworthy… Thank you God for choosing me to be one of Your children!!! MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
Thank you, Lord for washing away my sins. I am so very thankful for that. My heart is so wicked and my flesh is constantly fighting against my spirit. So I want to make sure to be feeding my spirit and not the flesh so that when temptation comes my way, I’ll be ready to find victory in Christ. God indeed sheds so much mercy on us. It has been so evident in my family’s life, especially these past few weeks where we didn’t even ask for anything, yet God blessed us with so much. Praise God for his mercy and goodness to his children <3
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
We serve an awesome God. I love how Meisha talked about the verse in Psalms which says that God takes our sin away as far as the east is from the west. To think that God has done this with my sin makes me well up in thanksgiving. By the mercy of God, we are saved.
1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great MERCY, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Titus 3:5
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own MERCY…
8 For he finds fault with them when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
Wow! I am having a strange sense of deja vu tonight! I just translated this verse in my Hebrew class tonight (it is a quote from Jeremiah 31:31). I am thankful that we can all be a part of the New Covenant where we can know God through Jesus Christ. I am also thankful that this covenant extends beyond the people of Israel to all of us Gentiles. Praise the Lord for the salvation we can have in Jesus Christ! It is awesome to think that he is at the right hand of God in heaven right now… I can’t wait to see him revealed in his glory and I am excited that we are going to keep reading straight through to Revelation!
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
The new covenant is superior by far because Jesus died for all sin once and for all. The new covenant is focused on obeying the will of the Father with all of our strength, hearts, soul, and mind just like Christ did when he came to earth. The sacrificing of bulls and goats was never meant to take away sin, God used to remind the Israelites of the seriousness of their sin and to look forward to a Messiah who would remove sin once and for all. Thank you Jesus for your death and resurrection, help to live a life that glorifies God.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I like this verse and how it talks about how God forgives us for our sin and never looks back on it again!!! God does not hold grudges!!!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hebrews 8
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
This passage is so powerful. Instead of God writing down his laws as He did with the old covenant now it will be written in their hearts and minds. God’s elect have been set apart with an ability and desire to do his will. We have been freed from our previous guilt so that we may serve God with our whole heart.
19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
We have been endowed by God with the tools and the desire to do his will but we need to be committed to our covenant with God. I am praying that I will not become complacent with this costly gift that I have received. Christ paid dearly on the cross so that I may live. Thank you Jesus!
Praying for school lunches this week at True North. Bring the Love!
8 For he finds fault with them when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
this is a great poem
12,”For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
i liked this verse because it shows how god forgave us
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah, i need to work on living 100 percent so that i will be ready for the return of the king
