Hebrews 7

The Priestly Order of Melchizedek

7:1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.

See how great this man was to whom Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers, though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one of whom it is testified that he lives. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.

Jesus Compared to Melchizedek

11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him,

“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”

18 For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

20 And it was not without an oath. For those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath, 21 but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him:

“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest forever.’”

22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.

23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself. 28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever. ELLO… I read

I like verse 27,”He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.”

I like this verse because it talks about JESUS offering HIMself up to GOD. The BIBLE says CHRISTians need to follow in CHRIST’s example. This doesn’t mean go die on a cross this means be willing to do anything for GOD. I need to make sure that I pray and I need to follow what CHRIST wants me to do and I need to know what CHRIST wants me to do by reading HIS word.

In the times before the rise of a new priest in the order of Melchizedek, Jesus, no one could achieve perfection through the priesthood under the law. The second point for Pastor Mike’s message this past weekend was “2. See the Inadequacy of “The Rules”.” He spoke of how before a new priest, the people had failed to live the perfect life, as we have all failed too. He brought up Deuteronomy 28, where the beginning talks of the good that will come to those who faithfully obey God. But the chapter goes on to talk of all the evil and terrible things that will happen to him who does not faithfully obey God. With the sin in the lives of all, perfection could not be achieved. In terms of salvation, no one could work with the rules to meet the standard of perfection and attain salvation. Yet, after having been saved, Christians are called to be perfect, like Christ, in their growing up in sanctification. But Pastor Mike said, “If trying to be holy didn’t work for justification, it won’t work for sanctification.” So no matter how hard I try to be perfect as I seek to live a godly life, I will fail, just as I failed to live a perfect life to save myself.

But all of this links back to verse 12 above. “For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well.” When Jesus Christ came as the new high priest, a necessary change in the law was made. There became a change in the law that brought the “New Way”. And this “New Way” in the law involves the Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers Christians to live for holiness. The analogy used was how the Spirit is the difference between rowing and sailing. It is difficult to row a boat, and all movement comes as a result of the work of the people rowing. However, though sailing is difficult, and it does take work to direct the boat, the wind drives it forward. In the same way, Christians are driven by the Spirit to do good works. And this Spirit nature begins to grow, as a young girl is forced to take baths, but will learn to spend plenty of time getting ready as she gets much older. I need to get excited about this new way of the Spirit. My life needs to be all about putting off the old ways and habits of my sinful nature, and putting on and putting into practice doing good works as I am driven by the power of the Spirit!

  3. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This reminds me how Jesus was that perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus was perfect and he paid it all! My sins are paid in full by the blood of Jesus. I still ask myself, how can He love such a sinner like me? I am just so blessed that I am a child of God and that through Him, I have eternal life! The Gospel is so important, and I want to make sure that I am the example and that I am representing Christ in all I do. I may be the only Christ that people see, so I need to be praying that I am a doer of the word and that I will always have boldness to talk to people! “You do what is important to you,” and wanting others not to go to hell and to hear the truth is important to me! I pray that I will continually be thankful and thank the Lord for He was that sacrifice for my sins. I also pray for all the Campus Lunches this week and for a lot of people to come and that the speakers will be prepared and preach it from God’s word! It would be awesome to see Revivals break out in the high schools of Orange County!

This morning I continue my worship of God Who has emptied Himself for our sake. I look to Him as the Only Prototype that I am being worked out to be like. I submit–I neutralize myself in the subordinate position, that He may do with me as He pleases. I celebrate the fact that He is, always was, and always will be. HE is my GOD. There is nothing else that is relevant but living for Him: going where He leads me, doing what He says, and doing it when He tells me to. By His Holy Spirit.

  5. Trembling with fear from the almighty God, B says:

This chapter really brought my attention. I don’t really know much about Melchizedek, but from past sermons Bobby has spoken about, I remember he is a great high priest in the time of Abraham. He was so awesome, that Abraham gave a tenth of everything to him?? NICE! haha I can’t imagine that being me! XD BUT there was one that was to come in the future that was even greater than Mechizedek, one that could bring salvation to the sinners that deserve it (including me)…JESUUUUUUUUUS! The Lord has shown how much He loves us through His son Jesus Christ because He saves us from our sin. We have broken the chains of evil and have welcomed the chains of slavery for God! It’s an awesome blessing that I bare(spelling?)! Now I carry those chains greatfully as I do my hw today, annnd the rest of this week! I pray that others at school may one day, bare the chains as welllllllll! Jesus, may you reign forever! MARANATHA!

  6. Kyle Dallape says:

7 It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior.

I dont know this verse was used in context with the verse, but to me it sounds like it’s talking about how we (the inferior) are blessed by God (the superior). I find that so awesome because it means that He does care for us and wants us to live a happy life :)

  7. Jenna Perry says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This is a perfect reminder that Jesus didn’t have to die on the cross for our sins. He offered to so we can one day live with him. He is the perfect Priest, like this verse says; he doesn’t give sacrifices up daily he was the perfect sacrifice once and for all the people. God is the best father we could ask for and i know i am so thankful he sent Jesus to die for us and i will one day see God face to face!!

  8. Dave Hosford praying for revival before He comes says:

Heb 7:24-25 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Our permanent Savior! He was, is and always will be! The question is: “How will we respond to Him today? Jesus alone saves, will we respond? Once He has transformed us we cannot be taken away! So, after that, will we grow more like Him? Please Lord, move us today for Your glory!

  9. Connor T :D says:

    Good Morning!!!!

    verse 24
“but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. ”

HE is forever. JESUS is forever. HIS love and grace and power will always last beyond the end of our days. That is all I can really say about that. JESUS CHRIST is everlasting.

  10. [DB] Derek Brower 2010 says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Our God is awesome! First off, He is eternal and we are just a gust that will live for a short time. Just thinking about eternity should spur us on to worship Him in His splendor! Verse 25 goes on to say that He is able to save those who draw near to Him. So many people think that what they do can save themselves but in reality salvation comes straight from the Lord! John 14:6 shows this further- He is the only way!

  11. Brittany says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

I love this verse because its says that Jesus offered up himself, and that makes me feel so good that we have a savior who went through so much pain and suffering for us.

  12. Beth Lauder says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

Verse 26 makes it clear that Jesus’ attributes as the perfect Son of God & sinless man make Him the one, true high priest. When people think Jesus was a good man, and not God, His role as our high priest makes no sense. He would have been just like every other Levitical priest who was sinful, had to continually offer sacrifices for his own sin and for ours. But because Christ was sinless His death on the cross paid the price for our sins once and for all. I am so grateful for that today. I am reading through the Old Testament right now with the DBR and I am struck by how burdensome the Levitical sacrificial system is. Thank You, God, for sending Jesus to be my high priest

  13. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

It is so fitting that in our DBR we just read through the book of leviticus. Through that book you really understand the role of the high priest, and we know because of the NT that Jesus Christ was the final sacrifice and is the final high priest. There is no need for a priest any longer to go before us and offer sacrifices for our sins because Christ did that on the cross and the sacrifice he offered was himself. Unlike the levitical priest hood Christ was perfect and did not need to offer a sacrifice for himself and then for the people. He only needed one sacrifice and that was himself. Jesus is the final sacrifice the final Lamb that was needed. And now it is over. Praise the Lord of Heaven for sending himself to the earth to live a perfect life we could not live die a death we should have died and rose again to defeat death and sin that we may be made right through his blood, and now have the privilege to live holy lives for God with Christ as our example and to have a personal relationship with the Lord of heaven. Hallelujah to the King of Kings and LORD of LORDS!

  14. LG says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever

The Lord reigns forever. He is everlasting! He never fades away!!! He will never perish!!!!! Reading this makes me amayzed!! Even though I have heard this redundantly, I am always suprised!!!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!

  15. Megan says:

25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

This verse really seems to say something to me. God is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to Him, and *that* is a very encouraging thought. That alone is a push to encourage me to make my heart beautiful to God. Because He cares.

  16. Melissa Cox says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This passage makes it so clear that Jesus is now the only priest…the only necessary priest before a holy God. He offered a permanent sacrifice for sins when he died on the cross and now the work is finished! All who come through Him can draw near to God and be saved. There are other religions that believe priests are still necessary between the people and God. The author of Hebrews make it clear that Jesus IS that priest and no other is needed.

  17. Dan Lauder says:

25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

As Pastor Bobby reminded us at Revival Winter Edition our hearts are like great white sharks with uncontainable evil. Romans 8:26 says in our weakness we don’t even know what to pray for. Psalm 19:12 says “who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent of my hidden faults.”

I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit and Jesus himself intercedes for me before the Father. When I realize I don’t even begin to know how sinful I am, it shows me how dependent on God I really need to be.

  18. Meisha Preston says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This reminds me of the old hymn: “Before the throne of God above, I have a strong a perfect plea. A great High Priest whose name is Love. Who ever lives and pleads for me.”

Human priests couldn’t cut it because they had to sacrifice for their own sins as well as the sins of the people and the sacrifices had to be continual. With Christ the work is done. He died once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring us to God. I cannot wait for the day when I can thank my Savior, face to face, for what he has done for me.

  19. Cameron says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

in the OT times as this chapter describes, priests continually had to make sacrifices for the people’s sins, as well as for their own sins. these sacrifices didnt save, but were merely types and shadows of the true sacrifice of the Lamb of God on the cross. when Christ offered Himself, He died once and for all for our sins. Christ was the perfect atonement that OT sacrifices could never achieve. i pray that his verse would remind me of the perfect, atoning sacrifice of Christ. the cross is not something that i should forget about, even though i was saved in the past. my faith in God is a continual thing, and i need to make my prayer for God to “lead me to the cross, where Your love poured out”.

  20. bill says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever

This is a good verse to reflect on because it is so true that God lives forever. Things we value on this earth will all perish one day but God never will and he will continue on forever.

  21. Jasmine says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Jesus, being set apart and holy, was the perfect high priest. This verse makes me want to strive with the help of the Holy Spirit to follow after Him and motivates me to become more like Christ every day.

  22. Jessica K....aka: the birthday girl says:

28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

This verse reminds me how perfect God is and how merciful and holy He is. The law is not perfect, but Jesus is. I am so thankful that God forgives me for all the times I mess up. I need to honor Him and show my love for Him by sinning less and not making the same mistakes. This verse also makes me think of how men are weak when they rely on each other, but are strong when they rely on God. Because God is supreme and faithful. He will never let you down. His love is beyond what we can fathom. God’s love is what energizes me with life<3

  23. Bryan Sonksen says:

    I read…

Verses 18-19… “For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

In the OT, God gave the Israelites laws and rules to live by in order to live a Godly life. If one was broken, Heaven was not achievable. However, a temporary plan was in place to forgive sins, through the sacrifice of animals. However, this was only a foreshadowing of Christ’s eventual death and it did not fully atone for Christ’s wrath. However, when Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose again, He conquered death and so we can go to Heaven if we become a Christian: repenting of our sins and putting our faith in God. I am thankful for God’s mercy because without of it, NOBODY but God Himself would be able to enjoy Heaven or escape the torture and separation in Hell.

  24. Katie Knudsen says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

Jesus is so awesome! This just proves it. Even though he had absolutely no sin he was WILLING (key term) to SACRIFICE himself for us (aka sinnners!!!) WOW to me that is intense to really think about it. Salvation is a free gift. Take it!

  25. kylie waskowski says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This verse shows that Jesus has didn’t have to die on the cross for us, He chose to. He loves us that much. It feels so good knowing that we have a savior like that. We need to give Him are all

    MARANATHA !

  26. 26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

In order for our sins to be fully forgiven, a perfect sacrifice needed to be offered up to God. Jesus was that perfect sacrifice. He was blameless, Holy, and God in the flesh. Jesus is the ultimate High Priest, He does not need to give up offerings for His own sins, because He is sinless. This was an astounding action because He did not have to die for us. He offered up His life to be the ultimate sacrifice for my sins. Because of this, I need to make it my goal to exalt God high above anything else in my life because He is worthy of praise. He died an undeserved death for my sin and He is the ultimate High priest over everything and is reigning forever.

  27. Nicholas Bonetto says:

27 “He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then those for the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.”

Jesus is so much more higher and greater than everyone, but yet He chose to die for me. He is completely sinless and holy, He did not need to die because He committed a sin. He died because of the love that no one can fathom. He was so much more higher than the high priests, yet He chose to humble Himself so that I can have a relationship with Him. This gives me motivation to fight sin. Jesus saved me from myself, I need to stop making excuses and make war against sin.

    !!!MARANATHA!!!

  28. Lauren Goudge says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.—This makes me realize how amazing it is to have a God that is holy and perfect! He never sins and it gives me all the reason to follow him because of his righteousness!! I don’t have to worry about God messing up by sinning because he NEVER does and I will never be put to shame! He died for me and he washed my sin away and I am forgiven! And because he died for ME I definitely need to live for HIM because of the price he paid and his righteousness. I am so grateful for such an awesome God and I really need to be working only for him!!
    MARANATHA!!!

  29. Matthew says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

With Easter at the Bren coming up soon, this verse stood out to me. This is the time of year that we get to really focus on what Christ did for us. He died for OUR sins. Not only the ones we have done in the past but also for the ones we may commit in the future. There is a song that I really like that says, “I don’t want to drive another nail. I want to live my life for you. I want to do it well.” That is how we should be living each day…in remembrance of what Christ did for us.

  30. Tiffany Chau says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever

I love this verse because it explains that Christ will be here FOREVER! He isn’t like a priest or anyone else that will only live for a period of time. God will never go away and leave us but will be here until the end. He has been here since the beginning and he will be here in the end! Humanly possessions will go away after time and nothing on earth will last but God will last forever!

  31. Allen McAnlis says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This verse is another reminder of the things Christ did for us. He came down to earth as a human, both pure and blameless befor God, and took our wrath from Him. Jesus took the ultimate punishment for our sins so that we would not have to see the full extent of God’s wrath. I am so greatful to Jesus for what He did. He did nothing wrong but He took my pain so that I could live.

  32. Kelsey Collins says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.

These verses are really encouraging to me. God will remain God forever and ever. He is never not going to be God, he was, and is, and is to come. Sometimes I think ‘oh yeah of course God is forever and ever’. But then I think of forever and that is a really really really long time. Its too big of a concept to wrap our small minds around. All we can do is worship God for being the same God he has always been and always will be. Somtimes I overlook praising God for who He is when I pray and just start praying about my needs. God deserves all my praise and worship!

  33. Murphy Danahy lowly servant of the living GOD says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

This is a cool verse. JESUS is the high priest who can make intercession for our sins forever. No matter what or when he is there to forgive us. And he will never pass away. Though the heaven and the earth will dissapear, he will remain.

  34. Emily Knudsen says:

21 but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him:
“The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever.’”

This verse stood out to me because it gives me even more faith in God! God always follows threw, which is so reassuring! Especially since a lot of people today dont follow threw. But becuase God is faithful we can always rely on Him. His promises are always kept, like a rainbow. God made rainbows as a promise that He will never flood the earth again. And ever since then theres always been rainbows! God is great and its awesome to know that He will never change. MARANATHA :D

  35. “…but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.”

A new high priest, a new covenant, a new hope. All these ‘news’ seem better than before!

Since we can’t receive perfection through levitical priesthood or the law, Jesus, who is perfect, interceeds for us between God so that we might have peace with God.

Remember that the old priest Melchizedek was named king of righteous, and king of peace. Through Jesus our new priest we are given peace with God by the imputation of righteousness that is found only in Christ.

This new hope is so much greater! No more sacrifices, no more death, for Christ died for all once, and that was all that was nescesary. He paid my debt; he died for me; and this was love.

Pray for me as i will be speaking on the Love of Jesus @ San Clemente High School tomorrow! Pray for Revival! :)

  36. j. watkins says:

“Consequently, he is able to save the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”

No matter where you are or what time it is, you are able to speak to God.
And he is and always will be able to receive you and make atonement for your sins, because he died ‘once for all when he offered himself up’ for ‘the sins of the people’.
‘He holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.’

  37. JWade says:

11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well.

if a priest was able to abtian perfection through the law then there would be no need to have Jesus come down and save us from our sin. i am so Thankful that Jesus did live the perfect life i couldnt so that i am now free from sin and a slave to Christ. there is still much training and war i need to practice for me to be the slave i am supposed to be and for me to get rid of my old master. i pray that i will have a spiritual growth spurt this week that will last forever. all the praise is to God

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. michelle cammarano says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever

YESSSSS this verse makes me so encouraged and excited. It is so awesome to know that God is forever…his word is forever…He lasts forever! Its so wrong of me to ever question Him. He is everlasting and so much more. I praise God for His many attributes and I look forward to being in heaven with Him one day so i can stand in awe of Him in fear and in reverance. Im just so excited to claim the fact that my God is a truly amazing everlasting and just God.

    Maranatha!!!!

  39. Marissa Ramirez says:

Son who has been made perfect forever

He is the reason people cant call christianty hyercritcs. He was made perfect and lived his life perfect. He is our example to follow. Us driving to be perfect is hard to do. We all fall short some days. But, it doesnt mean that we dont learn from our mistakes. We get back up and keep walking in Jesus steps. Happy Birthday to Alyssa and Jessica!!!

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever

God is always going to be there for us, his love, mercy and grace continues forever. that is so amazing. if we are truly saved, nothing can separate us from this love he has for us. seriously, God is insanely amazing. maranatha!

  41. 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

It is so encouraging to know that God continues forever and his commands continue forever! it goes on to say in verse 25, that God is able to save those who draw near to him. Like Derek said, some people think they can save themselves but the truth is that nobody can come to salvation and to the Father except through Christ and the blood of Christ. Christ is able to save them because he paid our debt and he always lives to involve himself in our lives. That is so encouraging to know that God is willing to involve himself in my life so that i can be saved and i can live a life directed to righteousness. Praise the Lord(:

  42. Eric Walker says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens

This only begins to describe how awesome our God is. Perfect, merciful, forgiving, loving, mighty… the list could go on forever! Our God is amazing and has saved us from eternal damnation and he deserves all the glory in all that we do. I pray that I will give the Lord the glory for all that I do and that my actions would be pleasing to him and bring him glory! Praise God!!

  43. hunter 2010 says:

I love this Chapter! Jesus is way more superior than the Law!

25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

It is so incredible that Jesus is constantly making intercession for us. Whatever sin we commit, when ever we do it, He will be interceding for us to God. Instead of seeing our sin God sees the righteousness of Christ; our perfectly qualified High Priest of the new law of grace!

  44. Mady Adler says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This is AWESOME! This verse totally reminds me of the song “Jesus Paid it All”. Unlike the high priests back in the Old Testament, who had to repeatedly offer sacrifices for the sins of the people, Jesus paid for every sin when he died on the cross and rose again! We dont have to do anything anymore, because Christ has done it all for us. The reason Christ had to come and die for us was that the although the high priests were able to offer sacrifices to God to please him when the Israelites sinned, they would never be able to cover up every sin of ours. This is because they werent perfect. we needed a perfect SPOTLESS lamb’s blood to be shed to cover up our sins. Hebrews 7:26 “For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens” He is still intercessing on our behalf before the Father. This is something the priests also couldnt do because they would die. But Christ lives forever and he will forever be our atoning sacrifice. Thank you Jesus!!!!

  45. Jacob Slade Upton: HE>i says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens

This verse stook out to me because it contrasts us, as sinners, with our holy, loving, and perfect God. He was and is the only one that could have saved us, and He came down and died for us, so this is so great. Thank you Lord

  46. Katie Slusher says:

It’s awesome that we no longer have a need for a succession of high priests! Jesus Christ is the great high priest and because of his perfect life and death here on earth, we no longer need the the priesthood. He offered the final sacrifice once and for all and does not need to continually sacrifice for the sins of his children. Praise the Lord for the perfect life of Christ! That Christ’s sacrifice is sufficient to cover ALL my sins! May I never forget the amazing goodness and grace of my Savior.

  47. IT'S ~ Ariana Mishreki's ~ BIRTHDAY TODAY!!! =D says:

    Goodevening . . .

    I read . . .

    Hebrews 7 . . .

“27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.”

Unlike myself, my Heavenly Father has no needs, wants, or desires. He’s completely perfect, content, and holy. He doesn’t need to offer up a sacrifice daily, you know why? BECAUSE HE DID IT WHEN HE DIED ON THE CROSS FOR ALL OF OUR SINS. Unlike the other religions out there, they worship their idol and do all their traditions over and OVER again. But in Christianity, not even a religion, our Father doesn’t sacrifice over and OVER again. He died for us once, and He rose for us once. I think that is something that is so key to fully understand. I know my cousins who are catholic who have crosses with Jesus nailed to them all around their houses. And I always think to myself, why do you have all of that when Jesus has RISEN! He died for our sins and has Risen, so CELEBRATE, do not morne. =)

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!

  48. Colin argue says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

-Jesus sacrificed himself upon the cross, so Jesus offered a sacrifice(which was himself) for our sins. Jesus was a perfect man and so it cleaned our our slate foreverrr. praise God for saving our souls. How perfect was he.

  49. Alison says:

Verses 26-28 were great for me…Jesus changed EVERYTHING, he perminantly atoned for every sin, for every person, from now until the end of the world. He was the sacrifice that changed it all and gave us grace…what an indescribable gift!! I am SO unworthy!! Praise God for how LOVING and merciful he is!! MARANATHA!!!!!!!!

  50. Morgan Shermanator(: says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

This chapter was really confusing..but if you really digest it and think about it, it makes total sense. The priests were required to live holy lives and have major street cred. I really need to strive to have that reputation as a woman after God’s own heart. The verse above is so powerful…it reminds us of the ultimate thing Jesus did on the cross for us–where we no longer have to offer sacrifices for our sin because he was the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you Jesus for doing that! I cannot wait to see Jesus face to face someday-Maranatha!!!!

  51. Joy Talcott says:

22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.

Jesus and His death and resurrection on the cross is the guarantee of our salvation. He is our high priest, the mediator between God and man. This got me thinking about the word guarantee—something that is sure to happen. There is no maybe here or question marks, but through what Christ has done, we as Christians are able to approach the Lord in confidence. May my heart by continually overflowing with thanksgiving and praise to the one who paid my debt.

  52. josh senger says:

28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever

This is so awesome, Jesus was perfect, totally opposite of what anyone can attain. He is someone that I need to constantly focus on being like. I want to use The example of Jesus’ holiness as the way i try to live my life. I know that I will never be perfect but I need to fight my sin one day at a time with a passion to know God better

  53. Josh Nance says:

I like this because it shows that Jesus died for my sins and he didn’t have to but he did and thats sooo awesome.

  54. Never Take David Personal says:

I really liked pastor Mikes message this weekend. This chapter, along with Stephen’s wonderful recap, really reminded me of Pastor Mike’s points. The truth is, we are all failures when it comes to obeying God’s law and if it wasn’t for the new covenant and the atoning sacrifice of Jesus the Christ, we would all be dead both in our sin and in spirit. So praise be to God for the salvation he brings. Praise God that we can be saved and are not slaves to the law and judged under it.

  55. 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

I am so thankful to you Jesus for saving me! This verse is so encouraging, to know that our Lord and savior is FOREVER, and that he has the power to save. It is just right here laid out for us, a good verse to memorize.

28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

It is also amazing to think that Jesus is PERFECT! Nobody is perfect, and he set a perfect example for us to follow, to read and learn about in his word, to meditate on and memorize. I am so excited to be growing in the knowledge of the Lord each and every day! He is so amazing.

    Thank you Jesus!

  56. Pastor Ben says:

I tried to think about this chapter in direct connection to the end of chapter 6. This chapter is just giving me more confidence in the anchor of my soul!

This chapter explains so much about the superior priesthood of Jesus, and there are some wonderful eternal truths here.

25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

Reading these verses should increase my wonder at what Christ has accomplished. He paid it all! And (going back to chapter 6) reading these things should only strengthen my confidence in my Savior!

  57. Mike says:

4 See how great this man was to whom Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils!

This seemingly-random encounter between Abraham and Melchizedek can definitely be a bit puzzling. It took me a long time before I was finally able to make any sense out of it, but when i was, I was again blown away by the power and provision of God. Through the order of Melchizedek, Jesus, while being of the line of Judah and not of Levi, is still able to claim the priesthood – and, indeed, to be our High Priest. Something like this shows the immense power of God and erases any doubt of His working all things out according to His plan. Knowing that God can use any situation for His glory encourages me to make the most of every breath He gives me and every opportunity I find. I may not know the consequences of my actions, but God does; nothing is merely random chance to Him, and things that seem small to us may be used to accomplish great things in His name.

  58. Alyssa K who's officially 18! :) says:

28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

Although man has a sinful nature and therefore will always have a weakness while on earth, God is perfect, and his perfection lasts forever. It is so comforting to know that though this life is temporal, God is everlasting and the same King who rules eternity. So much can change from day to day in this life, therefore as a Christian I need to make sure I make every day count towards my life with Christ. I want to bring others to him so that more people can know the One who never changes and is perfect forever =)

  59. P.J. says:

“26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.”

God sent his Son into the world to die for our sins, he was sent from perfection to live in an unperfect world. The writer says that “it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest”. Thank God that He allows us to share in the fellowship with Him through Jesus Christ who intercedes for us!

    Maranatha

  60. 26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself

Sometimes I just sit and think about all of Jesus’ attributes. He was PERFECT and HOLY. I am so thankful that God loved me enough to send his SON on earth, to live a perfect life, and then die for all of MY sins on the cross. No other person could show such love. Yet God loves me THAT much and because of it, I get to praise him for eternity in Heaven with my brothers and sisters in Christ! For this, I am so thankful.

  61. Sara L. says:

I really love the book of Hebrews because it explicitly reveals the parallels between Old Testament practices and what Jesus did/who He is.

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

Like in this verse…the priests made sacrifices over and over again….then Jesus was the sacrifice…and He paid it all! This reminds me of one of Pastor Mike’s sermons from Romans when he was talking about how when Adam sinned he made everyone sinners…but Jesus made all [believers] right. Reading the Bible is an amazing experience, especially when there are these parallels that prove that what happened was God’s plan all along…how could it all be chance? It couldn’t!

  62. Haley Litz says:

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

I love how verse 26 lists attributes of Jesus. He lived a holy and perfect life here on earth. He was set apart and lived a perfect life and died for my sins. That is so awesome and something that even now is hard to wrap my mind around. That Jesus, God, became a man and lived a perfect life, then went on that cross with no complaints, but willfully, and had all of God’s wrath from my sin poured out on him and died, then rose again! Wow! Praise to Jesus who lived a holy life! I want to follow his example and look to his life and how he lived here on earth. He constantly turned to the Word and to prayer which is how I want my life to be characterized also.

  63. Dan Blankenship says:

    Hebrews 7

22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.

In Christ Jesus we have a high priest that is eternal and unlike the Levitical Law is perfect. Our High Priest is without sin unlike the former high priests who not only offered sacrifices for others sins but also for their own. I am so thankful that we don’t need man to intercede for us but we have a relationship with God’s Son who intercedes directly for us to God. We don’t need to go thru man to intercede and give us further instruction so that God will forgive our sins as Catholicism requires. We are free to converse with God directly thru his Son so that we may draw near to God with our whole heart without restriction. I want to take full advantage of this open line of communication between me and God that was paid for with a heavy price. Jesus thank you for the cross!

28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of
the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

  64. Jackson Dahl says:

25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

For me, this verse really amplifies how great God’s love is, and how truly helpless we would be if he had not sent his son. When I was younger, going to church, I remember seeing a diagram explaining how Jesus is like a bridge between us and God, where we are one side of a cliff, and he is on the other. Though I understood it, I never really realized the importance of this analogy. As we are sinners, we are unholy, while God is, and thus, he can not be around us because we are of sin. That is is nature. However, as this verse describes, Jesus is the interceder between us and God the father, or the “bridge.” His death on the cross and rising from the dead is the sole reason that we as Christians are not doomed, or stuck on the other side of the cliff. Some people may fail to realize the absolute necessity of Christ in CHRISTianity.. without him, we would have absolutely no way of having a relationship with God the father, because of our sin. I am so thankful that God did show his love to us by sending Jesus to earth, and that he did die on the cross as the intercession for us. He is the only reason I can be close to God! And most importantly, I am so thankful that Jesus defeated death, rising on that third day, that we may be in paradise with him for all time.

  65. Austin Jones says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

I really liked this verse for many reasons. The first being that in the OT times they would sacrifice animals for every sin that was commited. It was a gruesome, bloody altar and day after day animals were slain in exchange for the sins people committed. HOWEVER, There was only one man who could REALLY atone for our sins. Jesus is referred to as the LAMB. Jesus death covered all of our sins. That’s why they say “worthy is the Lamb that was slain.” It was a direct reference to the sacrifices on the altar and more importantly, Jesus sacrifice on the cross. Another reason I like this verse is because it reminds me of the attitude Jesus had when he knew he was going to be crucified. It’s one thing to die, but its a whole other deal to know about the torture and pain you’re going to endure, and willingly face it. Jesus is omniscient. He KNEW he was going to have to be beaten and battered, eventually being crucified and having to suffocate. Yet he willingly came down to earth and lived the life of a man for that exact reason. I find it sad when I can’t even have a good attitude towards my teachers when Jesus lived the perfect life and knew it was going to end painfully. The bible is inspiring, and Jesus death on the cross gives me hope. I know now that I have a bright future and no matter what happens, it will always result in eternity in heaven. MARANATHA!!

  66. Josh Crichton on my itouch says:

Verse 26 talks about How Jesus was the perfect and blameless High Priest, set apart from sinners. But unlike the high priests of the old testimant, he did not have to offer sacrifice for his sin before he sacrificed for the people. He did everything needed on the cross for us to have a relationsip with God. He took the place of every high priest that was yet to come. We need to remember what he did for us… And we need to be telling people about it as well

  67. “The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
    ‘You are a priest forever.’

God is immutable meaning he is unchangeable or as this verse says he will not change his mind. This is a very comforting thought especially when we realize the futileness of the law to save us. God said Jesus dying on the cross for our sins was so that we might be saved. This is an unchanging promise and we can take full confidence in our salvation according to Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

  68. Michaela Adler says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

I am still just SO amazed that God came down to earth to sacrifice himself for us :)
He is so incredible and I need to remember that more often.
Lord, help me to sacrifice for You as You did for me.
Help me to see that You have a plan for everything and everything will always work out for the greater good because it’s all in Your perfect plan Lord.
Help me to spread Your good word of You dying on the cross for us.
The highest priest for the lowest sinners.
You are so good and holy Lord. Help me to be stronger in You.
Not my will Lord, but Yours be done.

  69. Mark says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

Ever since Christ died on the cross for all of mankind’s sins, there doesnt need to be daily sacrifices and animal sacrifices anymore because Christ was the ultimate sacrifice!! We not have to do that anymore because Christ paid the price for all sins: past, present, and future!!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. Lucas Garcia says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
this talks bout how everytime god does something he will pray and then will go the distance

  71. Dominic Scarmardo (Dana!) says:

24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Putting my hope in Jesus is way different than putting hope in a man. He will NEVER die and He can save ANYONE that come to Him. He is my perfect and eternal savior. That is so awesome!

  72. Zachary Hoffman says:

28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

None is perfect but Christ, and only in Him could there be made a lasting priesthood because of his perfection. The imperfections of men caused their priesthoods to end. In Christ, did the need for sacrifices end because He was the PERFECT and FINAL sacrifice for our sins, for what greater sacrifice could there be than the blood of Jesus? Praise God for sending His son for our salvation!

  73. jeremy says:

27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself
this is really a great verse it tells how jesus really offered him self

  74. Zach Reidinger says:

4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.
We may have a huge and amazing God telling us how to live our lives but the only thing that controls our lives is ourselves. We must do what God says for us to do and trustt in him. Its one thing to listen to him and its an entirely other thing to act upon what he says..

  75. Maddie Nadeau says:

16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

This is such a good verse! I want my intentions to be holy and not of selish of jealous conduct. I pray that the Lord will open my eyes to my sin everyday and that He will grant me the wisdom from Him and from His holy heavens!
