Cast Your Bread upon the Waters
11:1 Cast your bread upon the waters,
for you will find it after many days.
2 Give a portion to seven, or even to eight,
for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.
3 If the clouds are full of rain,
they empty themselves on the earth,
and if a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.
4 He who observes the wind will not sow,
and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
6 In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity. (ESV)

There were three or four verses that struck me this morning. But I will take time now for this one:
3 If the clouds are full of rain,
they empty themselves on the earth,
and if a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.
This speaks to the fact that we have consequences that come to be. Not just that we reap what we sow, but what I am reflecting on, is such things that maybe we don’t choose in a specific context. The clouds fill with water as a natural progression in the water cycle. It’s the way of water. And likewise, it’s not necessarily that a lumberjack came by to hack down a tree; the fact is, it’s falling, and where it falls, there it will lie.
The fact is, we are SINFUL. And the truth is, WE are falling–FALLEN. And where we have fallen, we wll lie.
It’s so critical, regarding repentance, to not just be contrite in heart regarding specific areas in our lives (though that’s important and necessary), but to realize the fact that it’s our WHOLE selves that we need to own as sinful, and give up and die to. It’s a dangerous way of thinking to get trapped into, to think that this area and that one are good and we don’t need to be dealt with in THOSE areas. But yah, I can see how maybe THIS area over HERE is off, so I’ll confess THIS one to God. SO DANGEROUS, this way of thinking!
So unless we are raised in Christ, we will find ourselves fallen, lying where we will lie, just as the tree that falls is found lying where it lies.
Intense!! Yesss, we have to give it all up to him and make war against our flesh! d:- )
Keep up the awesome posts!
mmmm love the comment this morning Stacy! :D
Awesome posting Stacy!
I’m lovin’ seeing you on here, Sharon! :)
Excited to serve with you, & grow closer to Gods Holy Word. God puts us right where we are suppst to be and the exact right moment <3
ELLO… I read
I like verse 10,”Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.”
i like this verse because it tells us to take away vexation from our lives. Basically it is telling us to not be tense or nervous about anything because its all up to GOD. This life isn’t all we have so we don’t have to live it in fear because it would be a waste to not use this life to serve GOD because you are constantly nervous. Being nervous is one of the most prideful things because you are worrying about your circumstances and what people will think about you. I need to make sure I don’t worry about a thing.
CYA
Mmmmmmm. That’s very true.
v.9 “Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment”
This verse is kindof oddly worded in that it seems like Solomon commands us to “walk in the ways of your heart and sight of your eyes”, but that would make no sense since he then states that God will bring us into judgment for it. I think what he meant to say was that we will be judged if we ‘walk in the ways of our heart and sight of our eyes’.
And this makes sense because that is exactly how we were living before God extended his love to us. We lived for our own desires and what we wanted, and not God’s desires and what he wants.
That’s what we’ve got to be doing. We have to be putting our faith in God and focusing our heart on him instead. It’s not us that matters, but him, and we’ve got to learn to put his priorities before ours. He is all that matters.
Ecc 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Great call to be joyful in the place God has you – with a warning to us. God sees all and we will be held accountable. So seek first His righteousness in repentance and trust then live for Him and the judgment will be like a contest for a prize and not a trial for the death sentence! Rejoice He is coming soon!
Yesssss!!!
3 If the clouds are full of rain,

I see that Stacy had a great comment on this, but I personally, picked up something else about this verse that has nothing to do with what Solomon was saying I’m sure. XD When I read this verse, I thought about how God made and has complete control over everything He makes. He even knows when a tree will fall…so weird. I never think of those things unless it happens right before me. I was listening to “how Great Thou art” last night to help me bring my focus to Him during my bible study. It was saying that God’s beauty was incredible through the creation around us. So awesome. I think today, I shall admire God’s creation and just take time to look around school and praise Him for it. :) Maranatha.
Hmm logging in with facebook isn’t working this morning…so I’ll just do this!
6 In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
Lately, I have been doing something that I haven’t done in the past as much. I go to OCHSA, and there are many performing opportuninities there and many auditions for various things. So, I have been auditioning for pretty much everything because I know that God will take care of me and I don’t want to look back and think hmm if only I had gone to that audition. That has been my mind set for them, and I am proud to say that the for two auditions I went to, I got into both! God knows what will be too much for me to handle. So in real life, I need to live it to its fullest so I never look back and think that I should’ve done something different.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
This verse confused me when I read it. But my study Bible said that what Solomon meant was that we should enjoy life, but in moderation. This world was created for us, that we might show God’s glory. God put things in this earth for our enjoyment, yet our sin damaged not only ourselves, but the earth too. Solomon is not telling us to follow our hearts and party every night, for at the end of this verse he tells us to heed the coming judgment. What Solomon is saying in this verse is that we need to enjoy life, but that true enjoyment is found in the Lord (which he has stated throughout the book as well as in many Proverbs). I am reminded of Matthew 6:33, where we are called to seek first the kingdom of God, and THEN all of these things will be given to us. I need to be enjoying life, but not by engaging in sin! I need to be enjoying life by trusting and obeying God, and using the things that He has given me to serve Him and worship Him!
Great comment, Cameron!
Yeah Cameron, my study Bible says the same thing. Legitsauce post!
Great Post!!!
7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
These two verses were great to read this morning because they really made me think of how we can do what we will with our life here on earth, and we can enjoy it for what seems like froever if we live until our eighties or so, but in the end, the days of darkness for those who have sinned and not repented of it will be so much longer than anyone can imagine. not only that, but they will be a time of great suffering. It says in verse 7 how light is sweet and we enjoy having it and the sun, and this ties in with verse 8 that shows how God has the final judgment and has seen our whole lives, so we can so eaisly end up living in darkness forever if we don’t live for God while we are here. My prayer is that God will help me to live everyday for him and to give me opportunities to encourage people and evagalize and do things that will bring glory to His name.
10,”Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.”
I really enjoyed this verse because it is a reminder to not worry, and to put away pain from our bodies. Pastor Bobby’s messages for the past few weeks have really impacted me and SOTD has kept my fire kindling during the week. My goals today are to remove vexation from my heart, put away my pain and NOT be vain. God is the only reason I’m here. I owe it all to Him.
Amen Megan!!
I Loved this verse too! I remind myself not to worry, not to have anxiety about things of this world . GOD HAS THE PERFECT PLAN FOR OUR LIVES!!! Who am I to try to change it or worry about it..
fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Here Solomon offers that men should rejoice in their youth and let their hearts be gladdened. He writes to walk according to what is best in your heart and what you see best with your eyes. And he closes this with a warning, that for all these things God will judge. The above way described is what is more commonly seen among man. It is the easier way and it takes no humility, only confidence in oneself. Yet all these actions as a man chooses to live only as he sees best for himself will be payed their due consequences when he stands before God in judgment.
I don’t want to take the easy way out. I don’t want to wander about my life doing what my heart feels is best or what I see with my eyes that seems the best. Instead, I want to live by God’s direction, seeking his guidance through reading his Word and through prayer. I want to seek a life after the Lord, one that is pleasing to him, and one that I am ready to stand before God’s judgment about. This doesn’t mean that I can’t enjoy the days of my youth at all right now. I can still have fun and enjoy myself, but I don’t want to indulge in all the things of the world. I need to set aside my own feelings and thoughts to give God full direction over everything in my life!
Good Morning!!!
verse 5
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
I like how this verse tells us that we do not know the will of God. We never will! Besides we probably wouldn’t even be able to comprehend His thoughts because His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. He is beyond us and that is why we do not think His thoughts- we are human and if we think we seem intelligent in our thoughts then we are very mistaken for God’s smallest bit of thinking surpasses all worldly knowledge. He is the one true God!
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
I almost felt like he was speaking to a person like me, probably because I am in my youth.
Vexation means worrying. And he is telling us to put pain and worry away from us, because simply, life during the time when you are young is nothing to worry about because ultimately it is vanity. Do not worry :)
I agree with your insight! Even the things in life that seem big to us are nothing to God; if he tells us he has it handled, we would be foolish not to trust Him!
4 He who observes the wind will not sow,
and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
If I spend too much time waiting for a “sign” to do something I will waste the opportunity to be productive for the Lord. Sometimes when I am waiting on doing something I know the Lord wants me to do I wait too long and lose motivation to do it. I must seize the day spiritually and do the good things that God has put on my heart to do as soon as He prompts me to do them! James 4:17 came to my mind as I read Ecclesiastes 11, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him that is sin.” When I procrastinate or wait around endlessly to do something God has called me to do I am sinning…that is intense. Lord, help me today to do all the things that you have laid out for me to do…starting with Bible Study, prayer time, and evangelizing the new hair lady I am going to today. I know you have put this lady in my life for me to talk to her about You so I am going to do just that when I see her today!
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
I think this is saying if I walk my way, seeing through my eyes, God will judge me and it will be bad. Therefore I should walk the way of God and see through his eyes what he wants me to do. In the end all will be judged accordingly to what they did on earth. I want to be that good and faithful servant. I want to walk the ways of God and the only way is to know what he wants. That means I need to know his word and pray to him.
Wooow Ella great comment..im feeling ya
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
This verse brings me back to Pastor Bobby’s message a couple weeks ago. When he told us when we are worrying we are being prideful. Because we are relying on ourselves not God. We are shunning God out of the picture and saying you cant fix this problem. This verse is telling us to remove that from my heart. Worrying is a sin and I need to not do it.
MARANATHA.
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
This verse really stood out to me this morning. It really makes me think of how God is working in our lives every second of everyday. He works in ways we will never see or understand because he is completely sovereign in all things. He has made everything and everything is under his control. His spirit is constantly moving and working. He gives us strength when we are weary, courage when we are unsure, boldness when we are timid, joy when there is sorrow, those are just a few ways the spirit works with in us and there are countless more ways we will never see.
2 Peter 1:3 comes to mind
3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
We need not trust in ourselves we need only to trust in Jesus our Lord and rely on his spirit as it works in us and through us and we are promised that we will have everything we need for life and godliness. We need to stop looking for the Lord to work and KNOW that he is at work.
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
This verse tells us that every year of life is a huge blessing…and warns us that this life will be full of darkness and disappointment. Even though we live in a fallen world, I will rejoice in the time God gives me here on earth. I’m thankful to be a child of God, to have a relationship with Him now, and to be able to get to know Him better and glorify Him with my life while I live. “Soon and very soon” I’ll be with Him in His kingdom. I look forward to the day when NOTHING will be “vanity.”
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
While this verse may seems confusing, it’s actually quite simple. Solomon teaches that God wants us to enjoy life, but he wants us to do so within the parameters of his law. That is an awesome truth! Our Heavenly Father has set up the boundaries of his law (which are not burdensome – 1 Jn. 5:3), and he is telling his children to do what they want within those boundaries. More than anybody else (and even though life will be hard) Christians have a real reason to enjoy life!
Verse 9 was my favorite, so applicable!
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
I don’t want to waste anymore of my youth by worrying. Youth has always been a time that God has given for people to enjoy life with the little responsibilities that comes with being a young person…but this time is short. As I am going off to college I want to be trusting in my all powerful God that has my future in His hands, I only have a couple more years left as a young person, and I want to enjoy them the way that God has planned for me!
i coulnt agree more hunter.
Ecclesiastes 11:
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
This verse is saying to enjoy the days while you’re young. You will have choices you will make in how you live your life. Just know that one day, God will judge you. I really like this verse, it shows that Christianity is not really just a robotic way of life. I can still laugh and smile, and still be a Christian. I need to enjoy my youth before I get old. I know that no longer, I’m a child because I’m legally a man. I’m still young, I’ll be young until I get to 33. That’s what I consider young, others might have their own opinion. I hope that none of the leaders get depress because I said at 33, I don’t consider you to be at you’re youth anymore. Let’s enjoy this because being young is a one time thing. It’s our pinnacle of excitment and fun!
I’m depressed you don’t realize youth ends way before 33 ( ;
Thanks KJ I didn’t realize I had one more year of youth left!
I must be a fossil at 42!
2 Give a portion to seven, or even to eight,
for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.
A great reminder that we are on God’s time, not ours. There’s a lot in this chapter about not waiting or holding back. Christ could return five minutes from now–or I or someone else I love could die today. When you add to that the fact that we are commanded to show love to one another, it’s clear how we need to think and live. John 13:34: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” Christ loved us through His great sacrifice, so my love too should be sacrificial. Jesus tells us to “Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you” (Mt 5:42). If my future is uncertain, and Christ has asked me to love others, why would I spend all my time just making sure I have plenty of food, provisions, security, etc. for myself? I should be sharing with others–sharing sacrificially–out of love and faith.
If I’m sitting around worrying about having enough for me, then I’m actually suggesting that I don’t trust God to take care of my needs; I’m slandering God’s character (this is what Pastor De Courcy discussed this weekend). I’m also then saying that I myself am more important than the people God has told me to love–I’m saying having plenty of stuff is more important than loving others. I don’t know about you, but when Christ returns I don’t want to be caught in a moment of selfishness and greed; I want to be caught in a moment of obedience and love that brings Him glory. I’m praying that God will give me a heart that consistently puts others first and that He will help me keep my priorities straight.
Awesome points, Boyd!
7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
This verse reminds me of how to thank God for everything He has given us, something like the Glory of the Sun. This verse is saying that life is sweet to live, and that we need to live it.
Amen
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
I love being able to read comments and better understand what I am reading through them! When I read a comment on this I totally understood it! I think it is cool to know that God wants us to enjoy our life but to just follow the rules. As long as we are following Gods rules and staying in the parameters of his rules we can enjoy life!
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Ben had a great comment on this verse. God did not intend for us to have a boring sorrowful life, He wanted us to be happy. This is why he created laughter and humor. But along with any good thing, there are limitations, which we are called to respect.
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
It’s easy to get caught up in worrying. The reason this is so for high schoolers often has to do with peer or parent pressure and also drama. Life is so much more fun if you cease to worry, and you will become much stronger if you trust in God. This reminds me of how I was telling a younger high schooler the other day to not get involved with drama (often caused by having non-Christian friends) and you will be able to practice not worrying more because you will be trusting in God’s will and not your own self-righteousness. I need to make sure that next year, whatever comes my way in college, I don’t give in to worry but always trust firmly in God. He has a master plan and knows what is best.
Wonderful commment Alyssa!!!
7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
I love this verse it helps me be thankful for what God has blessed me with. I don’t know how many times I just go to school and forget to thank God for the day I see the sun every day and just think that I am going to see it the next day but God could take me home at any time. I need to remember that God is so powerful and he made the sun and all that is around and deserves to be praised every day.
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
This kinda seems morbid at first. From first glance it says that when you are feelin good don’t forget that you will feel bad later. But it’s a good message to make sure we aren’t complacent and ignorant of what might come. It’s true that God is good and blesses us with so many things and a lot of times I feel so great because I know Christ. But there will be trials. Sometimes I will feel downright awful, and horrible things might happen to me one after the other. Solomon is saying here that I should definitely praise God for the blessings He gives me, but I also need to be prepared for temptations and tribulations that might bring me off of my emotional high.
I really appreciate and agree with your insight, Dominic! Thanks for posting this…
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
This is such an important verse especially in highschool. All around me, people just “live it up” and think that they will never get caught or will be invincible because their young. Might I say that they are all very foolish. People think that they should do everything because there young, and life is so short. Which is somewhat true, life is very short compared to what we have waiting for us. Ive noticed that when talking to people about where they think there going when they die, they always say, “Well since im a good person, I GUESS im going to heaven.” Notice how people use the word “guess.” In other words people dont really think about the after life. In fact, most arent even sure were their going. If you are a christian you have to be able to say that when you die you are 100% sure you are going to heaven. The people who dont know were they are going or arent sure, are usually the people going to hell. Which I find is very sad, especially since we christians are given many opportunities to tell them Gods word! I pray that all christians will be bold in telling others of Gods word before its to late!!! :)
Great comment Emily(:
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Most high schoolers think because were young we can do whatever we want, whenever we want. But that’s not true. God is loving, but he is also just. If we don’t repent of our sins and put our complete trust in him, we will face God’s wrath. It’s not gonna be a party in hell with satan in pure darkness and suffering; the real party’s gonna be in Heaven glorifying our Lord and Savior. This verse reminded me too of how pastor bobby asks in sermons what we think and do when no one’s watching and what does our heart truly desire. Being a Christian isn’t on Wednesday’s and Sunday’s at church and small groups, it’s a 24/7 job representing Christ and bringing him the glory. Our hearts should long for spiritual things, not worldly things that don’t bring true joy at all.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
i need to understand that everything i do will be accounted for and judged by God. even though i feel like i have a while to live death could be just around the corner, however i need to take advantage of my youth and use my God given energy for Him.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!.
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
When i read this verse the first thing that comes to my mind is how i cannot even comprehend or fathom the plans the Lord has for me and my life. There is literally no point in even worrying about tomorrow or thinking about what I want to do when God has my life all planned out! I dont know what He has in store for me but I know that I trust Him fully. I dont want to make myself bigger than God by always thinking of me and what i can do to please myself when God is the Ultimate Ruler and Creator of ALL THINGS! I am so unbelievably thankful for a Creator and a God who loves me so much that He planned out my life for me! I cannot wait to meet Him in heaven so i can fall facedown in front of Him and praise His name forever! eeeeeep im so stoked, wooo!
Maranatha!
GREAT comment, Michelle.
THANKS:D
Ecclesiastes 11:9-10 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
These two verses really stood out to me as I was reading this chapter. My mind jumped right to my high school and the kids at it when I read them! Most teenagers today want to live for the here and now. They dont care about consequences at all, or anything except for having a good time and being happy. Unfortunately, the happiness that these people are seeking is only temperate. Christians on the other hand shouldnt be seeking earthly pleasures. They need to be living for the “then and there” not the “here and now”. My mind should be on heavenly things, not making decisions that will make me happy for a short time here on earth! I will be rewarded for this also, instead of receiving God’s judgment and wrath. :)
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
When i really analyze this verse God is saying take away all (vexation) which is Frustration, being annoyed or worried. I think we often dwell too much on our predicaments with little things that are truly not of much importance.
I think especially for us teenagers we get wayy too caught up in what happening now! This very second! And “oh what are they gonna think of me?!” We often complain about things of little importance. Commodities like this never last and when we look at the overall picture as Christians our focus should be on what God thinks of us and how can we be glorifying him more other than ourselves and the thoughts of our peers.
MARANATHA!
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
This verse here reminds me of God’s sovereignty over all things! It’s funny how I catch myself so many times trying to figure out my own plans and then sit back and remember that I need to run to the Lord with everything and put my trust in him, not myself. God works in mysterious ways and I look back all the time and thank him for the way he works in my life! If things went the way I wanted them to, I’d be a total wreck! I am just praising God today for how powerful and perfect he is!
Life is sweet. Life is also shorter than we make it out to be. Life is fickle. Many things change throughout our lives and we should enjoy them when they last. But, we should never take things to extremes. Moderation is one of the key characteristics of a good christian.
This one verse reminded me of that:
7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
Light is amazing. Without it, nothing would be visible. I used to look at the sun when I was a kid because I realized how awesome it was. It’s a giant ball of gas that produces enough energy for our entire planet. That’ just amazing. Yet, even though light is nice, I must not stare at it. I need to take it in moderation. Life is to be enjoyed, but not in gluttony but in moderation. I’m reading a book entitled The Stranger and it constantly brings up the light motif. At one point, the narrator states that the sun made him kill a man. The sun can be a powerful thing that, the longer we let ourselves absorb it in the more harmful it can be. Many things in life are similar. That’s why I need to realize that there exists a line between enjoying life and being a glutton with the things I’m given.
I LOVE this post from you, Jonny. I gained and grew from your post. Thank you.
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
This verse is very relavent to a conversation I had today. I had this great conversation with this kid in my tutorial about eternal happiness, and how on earth today our happiness will never last forever. We got into how his main goal was to build a family and have his children be happy, and that was about it. He got sorta confused that I didnt mean that was bad, but I showed him how our good deads dont make us happy in our life after death. A lot of people dont realize that our happiness isnt forever, and that we can have eternal happiness in Heaven. I am going to try to show the kid in my class more that he can have eternal happiness, and also other people.
Go Kelsey!!!
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
I think this verse is saying that if we live our lives for ourselves, seeking out our own desires and wants, God will punish us. Our sinful nature will lead us into death, and that is why we need to not be living for ourselves, but for God.
Ecclesiastes 11:5&9-10
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
what my first thought of this verse was like Michelle.
and also that yea we dont kno the work of God that made ewverything. we dont kno that plan ahead but God! he new us before we were even on this earth…its just amazing to me. But all i kno that us christians shouldnt doo what we want to doo, but what are God wants us to do…thats are plan and hopfully are future we will be still walking in the Lord our God.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Everyone is be judge by God. people that are saved or not…
this verse reminds me of what we seen in are hearts, and in are eyes..not what Gods see, we just think about us. but i pray that me an all of us will always look at what God wants us too do and not for are selfs.even if u are going throw something bad, and a bad trial..thats the time we need God that most…and im just realizing that now.
10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
i dont kno why but this verse remines me of drama, worrign, and things of this world.put away the pain of your body cuz God is with you…its hard cuz schoolers go throw this i think the most, and sadly we dont go to God…and when we worry we go to are selfs..and sometimes we dont even kno that….i really do pray the the people that are leaving us soon:( and graduating soon, they wont STOP STANDING for Jesus Christ, and go to themselfs and cought up from this world.
this is why i loved these verses.
MARANATHA. :)
I read…
In verse 9 Solomon says clearly that if someone desires to do something pleasing to the flesh, let them do it but a consequence, and the judgment of God is coming. I am very thankful that the Lord has allowed me to repent of my sins and put my faith in Christ so that I only have to get judged based on my works. For if this had not happened I would be awaiting the judgment of God. Thanks to the Lord that He has saved me!
7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.
Jesus is the Light of the world and here I am to worship Him with everyting that I have. His Light is so blinding I have to look away, but even though, I want to stay in it so that I may learn how to serve God even better than I did the minute before.
LOVIN’ THIS, Janiel. Thanks for connecting on here, and bearing your heart. Praying for you, girl. DAILY. Just like we talked about. :)
9 …… Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
Everything that we do in life, God knows! He is omniscient! Although God is not tangible, we have to understand that everyday, our only job is to worship and bring God’s name glory! All that we do, God knows we are doing and on the day of judgment we will talk to God about those things. We have to live a godly life and walk His walk so that in our time of judgement, we will have little negative things to talk about! I understand that I am not perfect and I will make mistakes, but that is why I am so blessed to have such a merciful God! I need to live my life for HIM and only HIM. I don’t want my day of judgement to be a day of lots of negative things ,but I want God to praise me that I glorified Him with my life!
10,”Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.”
we need to get out anything that is bad from us so that we can represent christ in all we do
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
This verse really made me think about how truly awesome our God is! Whenever I sit and look at God’s creation or something He has made, I think to myself, I wonder what God was thinking when He created this. Our God is so lofty and incomprehensible for us to even fully wrap our minds around Him or His works. Everyday, He is working in my life and in that of those around me. I may not understand His works, but I do know that I can fully trust that He’s got it all under control! I want to be praising God more for his awesomeness and the works of His hands!
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
I feel like teens spend so much time looking forward to the future, but the Bible tells us to rejoice in being young, in where God has put us right now! I need to focus on glorifying God in whatever, whenever, whereever, because God will put me exactly where he’s going to use me(:
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
I know there is a few similar comments to this one I am about to post, but it’s so true! No one knows God’s plans and what he has in store for every single one of us, but we do know that he has plans for us to prosper and give us a future. I can’t even wrap my mind around how awesome God is. He made everything by the work of his very own hands! Also, if God has made everything so delicately and perfectly then I do not have a single reason to complain or worry about my days ahead of me. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
9 “Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.”
God put many things on this earth for us to enjoy. There are some of God’s blessings that are given to us right now. We can enjoy life, but with bounderies. I shouldn’t follow my own will and enjoy sin, this isn’t what this passage is telling us, look at the end of this verse. There is judgment. But I can enjoy the pleasures that God set forth for us to enjoy. My way only leads to destruction, God’s way leads to satisfaction.
!!!MARANATHA!!!
2 Give a portion to seven, or even to eight,
for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.
Rejoice even in the bad times and live like there will be no tomorrow because we don’t know! God provides all and He will show us the way, serve and praise Him through thick and thin :D
Hello all,
This verse stuck out to me.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
So it explains that even though youth is a wonderful experience, if I get to caught up in it, and do things that the Lord does not like.. I will pay the price later when I come face to face with God. It means that I should hang around people that know the rights and wrongs on God’s terms. So I can continue to grow in God’s word, avoid temptation, and still live a joyful life!
Final Verdict: God is always watching. Be good.
CS? Are you going undercover?
But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment 10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
I am again reminded about the idle pursuits of this world. What I tend to get angry/worry about is meaningless and fleeting. I need to stop getting wrapped up in the temporary things of this world and focus on eternity. I will be judged for my actions in this world. I want my time to be completely spent with eternity in focus and not worrying about the vain things of this world!
4 He who observes the wind will not sow,
and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
Laziness and procrastination produce nothing. I can spend my time observing the wind and watching the clouds but then I won’t have sown anything and won’t be able to reap anything. My days here on this earth are few. I need to spend them working for the Lord and storing up for myself treasures in heaven. It is so easy to wile away my time and spend it on myself. If I do this I won’t have a harvest to reap. I want to work hard for the Lord so that when I die and stand before my God and Savior he will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
This verse is saying exactly the opposite of what the world tells young people to do. It is saying to enjoy life, but by obeying God and living for his glory! The world says to live it up and basically break all the rules you can because that is enjoying life. This verse is the truth!!! The world is twisted and telling lies. I love how God’s Word speaks such truth and it is so applicable! I can take joy in the fact that I am God’s child and that He has saved me and I can live my life to the fullest for Him!!
“so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.”
I really like this phrase. God makes everything and he works in miraculous, wonderous ways! We will never know how he works! When i learn about cells and the human body and all the intricate things, it amazes me how powerful and wonderful our Lord is! He created everything the way he wanted it and we must give him praise for all of it.
8 So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many.
This verse stood out to me. Some days i feel like i have no purpose on this earth and i should be in Heaven right now. But it says clearly in the Bible that my purpose is to make disciples of all nations and spread the Word of God to everyone. I must rejoice in everyday of my life because it is another day and another opportunity for evangelism. Also, God says we will suffer and there will be many days of darkness. I need to keep my mind on passing the tests and trials God gives me and rejoice in them.
4 He who observes the wind will not sow,
and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
I’m not sure if this is exactly what this verse is talking about, but the thought that crossed my mind when reading this was someone just staring into space when they could be working. As is obvious, and as this verse points out, the person who does that is not even going to start their work. And if they don’t man up and start… well, nothing is going to happen, their work is not going to get done. This is pretty much totally on a tangent from this verse, but the saying, “Time waits for no man” is one of the most true things I’ve heard. Time does not stop for you. Time always marches forward. It doesn’t slow down, and, if anything, seems only to speed up. But it’s not going to go on forever, at least for us on this earth. Either Jesus Christ will return or we will die and leave the realm of space and time. Therefore, I want to make the most of every opportunity. I want to seize each day with a purpose: to bring God the glory. My time is limited. Lord God, please let me make the best of it!
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
This verse really helped me tonight. I have been looking at my life and the things happening in it and thinking “What the heck is going on? This is kinda the exact thing I am trying to avoid and suddenly it comes dancing like Beyonce into my living room of my life”. I really just haven’t been getting it and getting more and more confused every second. Normally, trials in my life make sense and I know that I’m growing from them. But it’s been so weird lately I wonder if maybe I’m doing something wrong or sometimes i feel like I’m soppost to understand it all. But that’s just it, I don’t, and I never will. Maybe one day I’ll look back on this and understand, but even if I don’t, God is perfect and its part of his plan and I don’t need to know everything. I just have to trust in Him.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
this verse was deffinatly an answer to my prayers. Its hard to explain, but I just really needed it right now.
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
It’s humbling to think of how smart God is and how smart I am not. The Bible tells us that God knows the stars by name. Which is amazing considering a new star is created every second. I don’t even know the names of everyone at True North. But even though I will never be as smart as God. I can learn more about him everyday by reading the Bible. I want to be like Christ and live like him. So the more I know about him the easier it will be for me to imitate him. Its kind of like studying for a test. The more you study for the test, the easier it will be for you on test day. God tests our lives through trials and tribulations so the more we know about God, it will be easier for us to get throught those trying times. Have a good night True Northers!
Amen Brother!
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
This is definitely not something talked about in modern culture. Our high schools always teach us to grow up as fast as possible and focus on ourselves. The bible commands the complete opposite. We shouldn’t be rushing ourselves to adulthood. God’s plan will work itself out in due time, and we are commanded to submit to his plan for our life. Patience is important to God! Another excellent point of this verse is the judgement. We all are going to have to stand in front of God and be judged. Christians will be judged according to their service to God, sinners will be judged according to their corrupt lives and sin and will receive God’s wrath. We definitely want to be judged according to all the great things we do in God’s name!! Noone wants God’s wrath, so we need to be extra careful to make sure we are serving him with a saved heart. Lets do work!!! Maranatha-Come Lord Jesus!!!
5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
Our Lord is such an omniscient God. Taking physics this year, its been cool to think about all these amazing scientific discoveries that man has made over the years. But then when I stop and think about it, we in reality know so very little about our world. But God knows everything and in fact put everything into existence. I pray that I would not become selfish and prideful and think only thoughts about myself – because I am nothing. I pray that I would be humble before my God and not to forget to spend adequate time each day praising Him for His glorious majesty.
Ecclesiastes 11
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
I love the sarcasm in this verse. The reverse psychology in this verse leads us into paying close attention to something that is counterintuitive to our faith. Solomon ends this verse with the harsh reality that God will bring judgment upon a life lived for oneself. Unfortunately it is our very sinful nature that leads us into a resistance to anything that will compromise our own control of our life. We want to selfishly preserve everything in this world that gives us gratification. I love the shock and awe of this verse to the reader. As Christians we have died to ourselves and the sinful desires of this world. The things of this world don’t look appealing in contrast to the things that are eternal. Our eyes need to be solely focused on the will of God in our lives to help lead people to repentance and faith.
