More Proverbs of Solomon
25:1 These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal things,
but the glory of kings is to search things out.
3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth,
so the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Take away the dross from the silver,
and the smith has material for a vessel;
5 take away the wicked from the presence of the king,
and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6 Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence
or stand in the place of the great,
7 for it is better to be told, “Come up here,”
than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.
What your eyes have seen
8 do not hastily bring into court,
for what will you do in the end,
when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Argue your case with your neighbor himself,
and do not reveal another’s secret,
10 lest he who hears you bring shame upon you,
and your ill repute have no end.
11 A word fitly spoken
is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold
is a wise reprover to a listening ear.
13 Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest
is a faithful messenger to those who send him;
he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14 Like clouds and wind without rain
is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.
15 With patience a ruler may be persuaded,
and a soft tongue will break a bone.
16 If you have found honey, eat only enough for you,
lest you have your fill of it and vomit it.
17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house,
lest he have his fill of you and hate you.
18 A man who bears false witness against his neighbor
is like a war club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow.
19 Trusting in a treacherous man in time of trouble
is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips.
20 Whoever sings songs to a heavy heart
is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day,
and like vinegar on soda.
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat,
and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,
22 for you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.
23 The north wind brings forth rain,
and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
24 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.
25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul,
so is good news from a far country.
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain
is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
27 It is not good to eat much honey,
nor is it glorious to seek one’s own glory.
28 A man without self-control
is like a city broken into and left without walls.
(ESV)

16 If you find honey, eat just enough— too much of it, and you will vomit.
It’s Christmas! The day our Savior was born! So don’t get caught up in all of the greed of Christmas, be content with what you have and what you get for some people have nothing on this day, no family and most likely no food. Be graceful, and HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Happy Birthday Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked.
Water is a source of life and refreshment. If water is polluted by mud it loses its ability to be used to for a good purpose. So it is when a Christian falls to the temptation of sin. When a Christian gives in to unrighteous and wicked living he loses the ability to shine his light for Christ and only brings disrepute against the good name of Christ. We must be sure that we are living lives of obedience to God and His Word so that we can have a good impact on those around us and bring glory to the name of the Lord!
15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
While the world seeks immediate gratification and tries to get its way by barking up a storm of commotion, Christians should look much different. According to this proverb we are more persuasive when we speak less (patience) and in a kind and gentle way. Instead of being more loud and demanding we would be wise to follow the advice of the Bible. “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” (James 1:19)
28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
A city without walls is easily taken over by enemies. So we will easily give into temptation if we cannot tell ourselves “no.” This is one of the key things about grace. Grace teaches us to say “no” to sin (Titus 2:11-12). That’s why I thought it was so good at the Christmas Eve service yesterday when Pastor Mike said that if you really want to celebrate Christmas to the glory of God you need to obey. Let’s celebrate the birth of our Savior by doing what he says today and all year long! Let’s make sure we are controlling our sinful desires and not giving into them in any kind of habitual pattern. This is a vital distinction between Christians and those who don’t know Christ.
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
God commands us to love our enemies, Luke 6:27″But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you”, if we see that our enemy is hungry or is need of something we should be willing to give them to him/her. If we do this then we will make him less of an enemy and we will get reward by God!
happy birthday Jesus!
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
Wow, these are direct instructoins to handle revenge. even though revenge is probably not at the top of our thought list today, we should remember for later on, because there will come a time where you need to know this verse. MERRY CHRSTMAS
Pro 25:28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
A defenseless city in war gets destroyed – so, too, is a man without self-control. And God will destory many men. God gives us everything we need for life and godliness, let’s call on Him today in praise and ask for His armor to have self-control. Glory to God for Christmas!
Merry Christmas Peeps!
19 Like a bad tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in times of trouble.
It is so important that we are discerning when choosing our friends. Our closest friends; the ones we hang with the most, the ones we go to for advice, the ones who will influence us the most – those people must be solid Christians. When times of trouble come, those who love the Lord will be faithful to you. They will be there to encourage you, pray for you, do whatever they can to help. Lets be choosing faithful and Godly friends who will cause us to draw closer to Christ on a daily basis!!
wow it is really christmas….. i cant believe it!
i lover verse 22…
but we have to understand something about it. the reason we should give our enemy food and water is not so we can heap burning coals onn his head, we would then be doing it with the wrong heart.. but we should do it in the name of our lord jesus christ so that it may be a testimony and that god may be glorified!
merry christmas!!
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. 22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
Not just because it’s Christmas but we should always love our enemies and treat them as we would a friend. In our acts of kindness they can see how we are different and they might want to be like us and that is when we can show them the love and power of God. Merry Christmas everyone. Keep posting.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked.
This verse reminds me of how “bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33). Christians never mean to get dragged into sin; on the contrary, they usually believe they have the strength to withstand it. But the more we hang around sinful people and the more we are exposed to sinful things, the easier it will be for us to stumble. Your intentions may be right and good, but that does not mean that you will not be tempted, and while God has promised that it is never too much for us, we are doing ourselves a favor by staying as far away from corrupting influences as we can.
Feliz Navidad to all!
28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
Hmmm. Good verse. In the verse people are compared to cities with walls. Those walls are for protection. Without them, the city could be destroyed by an enemy. Here it says a man without self-control is like a ctiy with walls broken down. So baisacly Solomon is telling us that if we lack self-control, we are only going to bring destruction upon ourselves.
PS: good job everyone on SOTD even tho it’s Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!
19 Like a bad tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in times of trouble.
We have to learn to trust in GOD in times of trouble, and know not to put our faith in anyone else. HE is the solid rock, HE is our deliverer. Happy birthday Jesus!
i really agree with jacob on this. jacob really sumed it up. the people you go to for help and that encouage you to do the right thing, are treuly your freinds.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!! Alison, amen to that! Oh and Bobby, thank you for that comment, I was wondering what the message yesterday was about. But to add to that, if Pastor Mike said we should obey Jesus to truly celebrate Jesus’ birth, then we should celebrate it everyday! It’s a great reminder of what God’s done for us and we should always think of how awesome God is when we think of Jesus’ birth! He humbled himself to be a baby, and that’s more loving than anything we could ever do AND He died for us, so out of this, let us be obedient everyday. It’s something that we can do with Christ help! We can’t do anything without God!
6 Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among great men;
Like I said, we are nothing compared to God so we should have the servant’s heart 24/7 never being prideful.
13 Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the spirit of his masters.
This verse reminded me of how the Bible is for us. It refreshes our souls and revives us. It brings us away from sin and keeps us on the right path so it’s a good reminder to always be reading your Bible.
25 Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.
Jesus is great news! Lets be out there this Christmas, heck everyday!, telling others the good news. :D
Merry CHRISTmas!!! :]
12 Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man’s rebuke to a listening ear.
I love the analogies in proverbs!! This verse reminded me to let go of pride when friends may rebuke you, and LISTEN to what they may be saying, humbling ourselves to be more like our Savior! It may hurt at the time, but as we obey God’s word, we please Him and store up treasures in heaven! :D
6.) Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among great men;
Let us all be humble and be showing God’s love all the time.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
6 Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among great men;
7 it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,” than for him to humiliate you before a nobleman.
Merry Christmas! We liked this about not exalting yourself in the king’s presence. We are called to have humility as Christians. If we boast or demand a certain amount of attention–we are bound to be humiliated.
28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. Merry Christmas!
Bobby, is that in the original greek?
16 If you find honey, eat just enough— too much of it, and you will vomit.
Too much of a “good” thing is bad. I’m talking about earthly good things. Thats why Heavlenly good things are awesome; just like reading the Bible. They won’t ever be bad but they will always be good.
20 Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on soda, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
This just reminds me that when we great people we shouldn’t just say stuff to start a conversation or make ourselves not feel awkward, but instead we should think before speaking and say what is helpful for building others up. If someones hurting, we shouldn’t go up and say what’s your problem, put a smile on. Instead we should comfort them and ask how we can help them out.
Hey Zach, No it is not in the original Greek…because the Old Testament was written in Hebrew!
Merry Christmas!!!!!!
14 Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of gifts he does not give.
We need to be careful of what we say and do. We need to be careful not to make promises we wont keep, and be sure not to make ourselves up to be someone we aren’t. We are who God made us, and we shouldn’t change for anyone but him. We need to be honest and make sure that we always do what we say we are going to do. Even if it is a trivial matter. What good is our given word if we break it all the time? It means nothing. But, if we do honor it, then we can stand by our word, and in that, we will be trusted.
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
How awesome would this be if nonchristians or even christians saw us doing this! instead of saying something bad or acting in a sinful way we can help our enemies out! I think this is such a great way to show your faith in Jesus Christ.
15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
People will be more willing to listen to you if you are patient, gentle, and kind! If you are explaining to them about God and all the wonderful things about him and they have so many questions, be patient! Try to help them understand. They may end up believeing because of you!
Reading Proverbs 25 on December 25 I wanted to leave comment 25 on verse 25:
“Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.”
Praise God for the good news of the Gospel from heaven!
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
Helping out our enemies is so out of the ordinary to the world today. People now take revenge, and hate their enemies. What a great example it would be if we were kind and loving to our enemies. Show them the love of christ, and who knows how they will take it. You never know what you can do with God’s help (:
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
verse 15
I agree Taylin! Patience is a virtue… and it sure doesnt come easy sometimes but we are commanded to be and so we must be patient in every situation!
As for me I watch and hope for the Lord! Happy Birthday Lord Jesus!!!
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
This is the opposite of what the world tells us! We are told to treat our enemies with hatred. WRONG ATTITUDE! We need to take care of our enemies. It is said that if we do this, it is like heaping burning coals on his head. Showing love to your enemies will hurt them, and hopefully make them feel sorry. Showing love will convict them and by our attitude and actions if could change them. God will reward us if we do this.
21If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
most of the time we are nicer to friends. but I really liked this verse because we should treat everyone with the same amount of kindness, no matter if we are friends or never even talk to eachother. it could really lead to new things.
28 like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
We always need to watch what we say and do because you never know what can cause something to happen. We are completely vulnerable when we don’t think before we act
