Jesus and the Woman of Samaria
4:1 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.
31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
43 After the two days he departed for Galilee. 44 (For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.) 45 So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast.
Jesus Heals an Official’s Son
46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. 54 This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee. 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
THis is a really cool visual image of what God does when we repent and have faith. We are guaranteed eternal life like a spring of water welling up to God and heaven. When we expect the fact Jesus has died for our sins we will never thirst again, we become one of his children!! I am so thankful God sent Jesus and died for us so we can be with him for the rest of eternity!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
John uses double meaning in this passage. The term living water means “fresh spring water,” but John is distinctly referring to the Holy Spirit dwelling within a Believer. As I was thinking about this verse I realized how true it showed itself to be in my own life. I was once like the Samaritan woman, trying to quench my spiritual thirst with the things of the world like relationships, material possessions, and academic and occupational success. All of those things only left me empty inside and longing for more. When I became a Christian in 1999 and was filled with the Holy Spirit my deepest spiritual longing, to know God personally, was satisfied and will be satisfied forever. The world and its pleasures are fleeting and can never fill you with lasting satisfaction, only God, through the indwelling of His Spirit can do that. Today I am thankful that God called me out of my dark, empty and shallow existence and called me to be a part of His eternal kingdom. Our God is mighty to save and we should praise Him daily for the gift of the Holy Spirit which will satisfy our deepest desires!
A couple of powerful points from today’s chapter stood out to me…
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
What an encouragement and an admonishment to me, to live out the Lord’s will and His agenda instead of my own. We aren’t fed AFTER we serve or obey, but DURING our service and obedience. We are fed WHILE we DO the will of the Lord. What a convicting reminder to continue exercising obedience.
39a Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony…
People will be led to Christ and salvation as a result of us sharing our testimony. ANOTHER con-VICT-ing reminder to SHARE MY TESTIMONY WITH OTHERS. Yesterday at my work Christmas party, a girl from a sister office and I were talking, and she shared with me how she is an atheist. Today, I must schedule a lunch with her, to share my testimony with her and to, “Gospel her!” This is HEAVY ON MY HEART…
Also, Jackson, about your question from yesterday, with Jesus being the Only One to have seen heaven. I wonder, too (and Pastors B & B, correct me if I am wrong), if Jesus said this, because He had not yet chronologically been crucified to conquer hell and overcome death, and He had not yet (in OUR scope of time, though He had in the scheme of eternity) been resurrected to open up heaven.
This is one of my favorite chapters in the whole Bible! What would Jesus do on Evangelism Night? We get to see a glimpse of Jesus himself engaging someone in a gospel conversation.
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
We need to remember to present Jesus not just as an argument people need to be intellectually convinced of. Christ is the most soul-satisfying thing there is! If you have a relationship with him, you will never be thirsty again!
This is glorious!
Praying for campus lunches today!
What an awesome chapter! :]
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
His mind was focused on the goal God had set out for Him. Christ is so perfect and great, I praise Him for all He has done! The sad thing though is that people who ended up believing in this chapter had to see a miracle to believe. They couldn’t just put their faith in Him with no proof. Christ is great and I want His name to be praised to the ends of the earth, so lets evangelize and get His glory known! :D
42They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
They have got it down! Christ is the Savior of the World! He is the one and only one who can save us from our sins! Praise the LORD for all He has done! :D
***HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER!!!***
10Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
Jesus Christ gives us living water, the holy spirit, which is a lot better than anything in this world has to offer. The Lord, the giver of eternal life, gives us all we need to live and we should glorify him by speaking his name and telling others about him.
Reading all these chapters about Jesus makes me want to know him and want him to come back even more. I just cannot wait for the day when Jesus comes back!!!! I pray each day for his return!!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!
20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 Jesus declared, “Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
[MARANTHA!]
22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
The time for this is now! Back then it was customary in the Jewish faith to worship in the Holy City- Jerusalem. Now, we have the awesome privilege to worship God in everything we do. If we are true believers, we will worship God in spirit and truth. This means actively glorifying God through the way we live. How many people can recognize me as a Christian because of how I live? I want to glorify Christ in EVERYTHING I do, because He deserves it!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I liked this whole passage, but these verses are the ones that stood out to me. They are powerful and convey a lot of meaning to me.
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Everyone has a whole in their heart that only God can fill. Every person longs for something more than just the mere physical things of this world. God has set eternity into our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). We can try to fill it up with the things of this world but we will always be left empty, wanting more. I can testify to this as someone who became a Christian at the age of 19. I tried to fill my life with the things of this world but I always had a sense of lack. Only Christ can give us the sense of completeness that we long for. This is true no matter how long we have been a Christian. There is no use pursuing anything else but Christ with the best of our time, energy, and resources.
Well this chapter goes well with DBR! :D How interessssting. Well what I see in this chapter is that people believed back then due to miracles. God shows us today through His Word. He opens our eyes to what life is really all about which is to glorify His name so that others may believe. The fact that I am saved is a miracle in itself, so the life that I live needs to be an example for everyone else in this world that doesn’t believe. Jesus didn’t die for nothing and I neeeeeed to remember that at every moment of my day. Lord help me be an example for others that others may see and believe. You changed the woman’s life, and now I go out to be used by you. :)
50Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
This guy had faith. He knew that what Jesus said, He meant. He took Jesus at His word. He didn’t question, he took it as the truth that it is. That is faith. I think that it takes a lot to have this strong kind of faith, but it’s nessecary. (spelling?) Anyways, I want to be like this guy. I’ll take Jesus at His word and know that He will do what He promises! Even though i may not see Him now, i can have complete faith in His word!
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
when we drink water on earth it will leave us thirsty again, but when we drink the water that the Lord gives to us then we will never be thirsty again. the things on this earth will never truly be satisfied, but we will always be satisfied with Jesus
c u all at True North
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life
This verse is awesome because I need to always remeber that the only water that we really need is the one from the spring of eternal life.
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
All I have to say is…Jesus was one amazing human being!! His answers to the disciples always glorify His father in heaven!! His life was devoted to doing God’s will, and finishing it. The will of God is number one in His life, and obviously it was for the benefit of all people through His death and resurrection. The will of God is always perfect, and I need to remember this as I finish up high school this year!! God has a plan… I just need to keep seeking after His will for my life!! :D
ELLO… I read
I like verse 34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
I like this verse because it tells us what food is. food is something you need everyday and can barely go a day without. JESUS compares teaching GOD’s word to others is his food. HE can’t go a day without quoting scripture. I am supposed to follow JESUS’s example and therefore should live off of teaching the GOSPEL to others.
CYA
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” this is saying that we need to accept Jesus’s gift of him dying on the cross for our sins so that we might be able to live. that is like not taking the bestest gift but just rejecting it to the person who gave it to you. we need to work on sharing this news with every one because how else will people learn how to have eternal life.
50Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
Its amazing what faith this man had in Jesus. I hope to have that faith too.
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
How legit is that! Jesus’ says that his food is to do the will of the Lord! I pray that we all would have a craving just like Jesus had and see lost souls as food so that the Lord’s will may be done and those who are not saved may become saved!
MARANATHA!!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
This is so true. whenever you eat or drink you become hungry and thirsty soon after. But GOD’s water, the water of eternal life, which is the gospel, will satisfy forever and you will never long for spiritual fufillment again because GOD gives you everything you need.
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Jesus is saying here the only things that we need in life: the salvation we get from Jesus Christ and obeying his commands. This is extremely important, because if I put anything else in life above that, I won’t experience eternal life. Also, this is the way I need to be thinking of reading God’s word and doing his command: my food that I need to sustain myself. Just like we talked about in 1 Peter, where it says that God’s Word should be our spiritual milk.
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
I really like this verse, becuase this is exactly what our food should be also. We should be feeding off the Lord’s will and commands. I like this verse because it demonstrates what our needs should be. Our first priority should be following the Lord’s commands. I should feel a need to do so. It should come before all earthly things. The need becomes stronger as I am in the Bible more and more, and the more I pray and fellowship with my fellow Christians
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
I pray that I would have the same hunger that Jesus did to carry out the Lord’s work. He did not complain of His work being to hard or complain about it. He did the work of the Lord with His whole heart. The thing that was even cooler was that He hungered to do the work of the Lord more than anything else at all times. Nothing ever got between him and the Lord.
41 And because of his words many more became believers
We are supposed to follow Jesus’ example and here he is telling people about himself. He is essentially witnessing to people and many become believers. We are supposed to do the same. Although we don’t have witnessing skills like Jesus and maybe not everyone we tell will accept what we are saying (most won’t) there are still some who will. I am excited to witness over the break especially that the topic of Christmas makes it easy to bring up.
Great comment Pastor Ben!
10Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
I love the conversation that Jesus has this woman. The way He shares the gospel is so awesome, Jesus dosen’t beat her over the head, but instead He explains a spiritual truth in a material way that she can understand with out compromise! Our God is so wise and compassionate!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
A relationship with Jesus is the only thing that can satisfy us! Like the Lauder’s said, filling a spiritual hole with material things dosen’t work…it just leads to further uncontentment. That desire and “hole” that we have can only be filled by the Holy Spirit indwelling us. This has rebuked/reminded me not to seek spiritual satisfaction and contentment in earthly things, but to instead turn to God and find my joy and contentment in my relationship with the Holy Spirit.
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I really love this verse and it brings a great picture to my mind. Jesus Christ is the only one who can satisfy! The Lord is the only way to salvation, and through him, you will never thirst! I agree with Jenna, what an awesome visual this is. True contentment comes from Christ, and him alone! I want to live my life pleasing to him and have an obedient heart in everything I do!
“When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Will you give me a drink?’”
Somehow, this verse reminded me of the end of Matt. 25 talking about judgment day and the separation of the sheeps (followers of Christ) and the goats (impostors, pagans, slaves to sin). Jesus said: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” It’s an awesome thought to think that when he help others, especially the poor it’s as if we are doing these things to Jesus on a more personal basis. Thinking about this makes me want to go out and give! because I know that it is like I’m doing these things for Jesus (not just the mindset, but actually doing it to Him).
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
Love this verse; it needs to be the cry of my heart at all times, that I would want to do the will of God with my actions, thoughts, and words! And pursue holiness with an unquenchable satisfaction!
Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!!
John 4:34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
Jesus has “food” to eat, and to do, which is the will of the father. In the same manner, it is important for me to feast continually on the spiritual food of God’s word. Now, food is something you need to survive, your body will not function properly without food. Likewise, without spiritual food, my spiritual soul will begin to die. I need to make sure to replenish my spiritual food daily through prayer and being in the word of God.
God Bless!!
John 4:13-14 “Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’”
Water is essential for life. Food…maybe I could survive without it for a few days, but water…no way! This world offers a type of water, and so does Jesus.
I like to think of it as a choice between saltwater and fresh mountain spring water. This world offers an enticing substitute for water which is actually filled with salt (sin). Jesus offers a water, so pure (sinless) that it leads to eternal life. One can be truly satisfied in Christ, but with sin you must keep coming back for more and more yet are always left unhappy. I want to pursue the God that truly satisfies. His way is perfect and rightous…and altogether better. I will praise him!
heyyyy i read….goshhhh i havent posted in awhile! shame on me!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,”
wow what a powerful statement.
we get too caught up in the world and all of it’s FUN and “its all about making yourself happy” perception and its hard to break free once you have become enveloped but still we keep drinking this water promising that it is sure to quench our thirst “tomorrow” we need to stop and realize that “tomorrow” NEVER comes. Thank you Jesus for you everlasting water that we don’t not need to believe in a “tomorrow” but we can stand firm in the fact that you will quench our thirst immediately…TODAY!
35Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
Awesome chapter!
I thought this verse was really cool because Jesus was telling the disciples that while they were out getting food, he was evangelizing to people who really needed to hear the gospel. When he talks about the fields being ripe for harvest right then, he meant that there were so many people around them that they could be evangelizing to and yet are not. The disciples were not choosing God’s will as their ‘food’ as Jesus was. I love how even though this happened so long ago, this is so applicable to me right now! There are so many people around me everyday, especially at my school, who need to hear the gospel! I definitely need to step up my game in sharing my faith because I do not want anyone to have to experience hell! I’m praying for more opportunities to witness at my school so that God’s word would be heard and a revival would begin!
Hello True North! Praying for an awesome weekend with Pastor Ben preaching!
21Jesus declared, “Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
It is very interesting to read Jesus talking to this woman about the temple when I just went to the Mormon temple today here in Utah. I wrote a blog about it! Check it out and leave a comment letting me know what you think: http://www.compasschurch.org/blogs/pastorbobby/temples-here-there-or-everywhere/#comments
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
This reminds me of that song, “YOU, are all that matters, all that satisfies, all that gives me life and stands the test of time. You are my portion, my only passion, you mean everything to me.” Jesus Christ fulfills ALL of our needs!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I really like this verse it shows me how wonderful Jesus is and that beliveing in him and doin as he says we will all get to heaven
50 Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
The man had no way of knowing if what Jesus said was true, but He took HIm at HIs word and did as He had commanded, and his son indeed lived. God has given us promises throughout the Bible, but many of them require us to act in obedience and faith. For example, He has said that He will give us the words to speak when we evangelize, but this will never happen if we are too scared of saying the wrong thing to open our mouths at all. We need to act in faith, trusting that God will do as He has said He would. No matter what situation I find myself in, I can take refuge in the fact that God does not change and His promises are guaranteed, and this assurance should lead me to action, trusting that He will provide what I need.
50 Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
What a great example of faith. This guy listened to what Jesus said and took Him at His word–he trusted. Like him, I want to take God at His word. I want to have full confidence in the Bible (His thoughts written down for us) and faith that God has done/will do what He says He did/will do. He who promises is faithful, and I want to trust Him.
Lord, please give me real faith in you and your Word the Bible. And keep my eyes fixed on Jesus Christ this Christmas!
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I love this because its saying that if we really have the right relationship with Christ then we will never be thirsty again. How amazing!
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The drink that Jesus gives us is eternal!!! The water we drink is just water!! But the water Jesus is referring to is eternal salvation!!! If we take up Christ on his offer to save us from our sins, it is half done!!! The next half is that we have to believe with all of heart, soul, mind, and stength that Jesus did die on the cross for our sins and rose again!!!! Then we must place Christ as LORD over our life and we no longer are in control!!!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Mmmmm, some incredibly good scripture here. Excellent analogy Jesus uses to represent salvation. Its verses like these that help non christians get a better grasp on the gospel. Humans in general are logical thinkers. We have a hard time believing something if its not easily understood or easy to react to. Time to spread the water from Jesus and save some lives!!

1st Trabuco Pizza Lunch = Over 200 people Praise God!!
The Samaritan woman of this chapter draws a sharp contrast to Nicodemus of yesterday’s SOTD. He was seeking; she was indifferent. He was a respected ruler; she was an outcast. He was a Jew; she was a despised Samaritan. He was learned in religious matters; she was ignorant. Yet in spite of all the differences between Nicodemus and this woman, they both needed to be born again. Both had needs only Christ could meet. While we live in a time of much diversity, it is clear that EVERYONE needs the gospel.
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
the song All That Matters reminds me of this verse. there is a line in All That Matters that says that Jesus is all that satisfies. in this verse Jesus says that the water He provides makes one never thirst again. Jesus Christ IS the only One who satisfies. He is the only One who provides fulfillment and true happiness in life. Jesus says in the second part of this verse that His water ultimately becomes eternal life! that is exciting! our life on this earth has meaning, but even better than that, we can look to Christ’s return and our fellowship with Him forever in heaven! i pray that i would be finding satisfaction in Jesus Christ alone, not in anything of this world. i need to be focusing on heaven and spiritual things, and being thankful for the water that causes me to NEVER thirst again! Thank you Jesus!!!
29″Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”
This is a sobering thought…Jesus knows everything that I have ever done. This reminds me of Pastor Mike’s sermons at Revival ’09. My life is a glass of water and all my sin is mud and dirt in the water. When I die I want to have as little dirt in my glass as possible. When I am tempted to sin I need to remember that Jesus sees me and that I will have to talk to him about it some day.
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I loved these verses the most becuase they really represent enternal life with God. In doing so i think God is using water because we crave it and in the same way we should crave Gods word. Also i feel that the water represents the purness of God which should lead us to heaven which is also eternal life! :)
35Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
Open your eyes, the fields are ripe for harvest! Often when I see the sins and wickedness that is so commonplace and accepted among the world today, I get a feeling that everyone is lost completely. I see a coworker and think that she is so far from the truth and maybe even thing there’s no way she could be saved. This is so wrong. I need to see my unsaved friends, family, and coworkers as ripe for harvest. I need to be faithful in sharing the Good News to everyone and allow myself to be used for the harvest. I know that the Holy Spirit will draw people to himself, but I need to be faithful to do the work that God has commanded.
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
I want to follow Jesus’ example here and live to do God’s will and what he has me on this earth for: to share the gospel and spread his word. That is so important and I need to be much more bold in sharing what Jesus has done!!
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Great verse! This is such an amazing purpose to do something and shows how much he loved the world. He LOVED the world so he GAVE his one and ONLY son…whoever believes in him will have ETERNAL LIFE! Great verse adn it is amazign to observe and clearly recognize the amount of love he has for us!<3
amazing comment spencer!!!!!! amazing analogies with sin and God and the different waters!(:
34″My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
This is so awesome! I need to be like Jesus and be so hungry to serve the LORD that it is like my food! Now that is a servant mindset! God is so worth it, and it is all about him, so I need to do his will. And if my food is serving him, I will do it constantly, which I need to! I pray that the LORD will help me with this even more than he does now!
PRAISE THE LORD!!!MARANATHA!!!
10Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
It’s so awesome how God willingly gives us forgiveness no matter what we’ve done in our lives. all we need to do is ask him for it and he will give it to us.
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
when we have accepted Christ into our hearts our relationship with Him is everlasting and we will never thirst again because we have everything with God and all we need is God.
