God Who Judges the Earth
To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David.
58:1 Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods?
Do you judge the children of man uprightly?
2 No, in your hearts you devise wrongs;
your hands deal out violence on earth.
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb;
they go astray from birth, speaking lies.
4 They have venom like the venom of a serpent,
like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
5 so that it does not hear the voice of charmers
or of the cunning enchanter.
6 O God, break the teeth in their mouths;
tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!
7 Let them vanish like water that runs away;
when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted.
8 Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime,
like the stillborn child who never sees the sun.
9 Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns,
whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!
10 The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance;
he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
surely there is a God who judges on earth.”
Deliver Me from My Enemies
To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him.
59:1 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
protect me from those who rise up against me;
2 deliver me from those who work evil,
and save me from bloodthirsty men.
3 For behold, they lie in wait for my life;
fierce men stir up strife against me.
For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord,
4 for no fault of mine, they run and make ready.
Awake, come to meet me, and see!
5 You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel.
Rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah
6 Each evening they come back,
howling like dogs
and prowling about the city.
7 There they are, bellowing with their mouths
with swords in their lips—
for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?”
8 But you, O Lord, laugh at them;
you hold all the nations in derision.
9 O my Strength, I will watch for you,
for you, O God, are my fortress.
10 My God in his steadfast love will meet me;
God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
11 Kill them not, lest my people forget;
make them totter by your power and bring them down,
O Lord, our shield!
12 For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips,
let them be trapped in their pride.
For the cursing and lies that they utter,
13 consume them in wrath;
consume them till they are no more,
that they may know that God rules over Jacob
to the ends of the earth. Selah
14 Each evening they come back,
howling like dogs
and prowling about the city.
15 They wander about for food
and growl if they do not get their fill.
16 But I will sing of your strength;
I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been to me a fortress
and a refuge in the day of my distress.
17 O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
for you, O God, are my fortress,
the God who shows me steadfast love. (ESV)

16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
Its amazing how we can never really run out of things to praise the Lord for because He is everlasting. So that should be model to us all: sing in the morning and at all times! We need to live lifestyles of worship to the Lord!
Ps 59:16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
Exactly right Derek! Chekc out how these two Psalms are aimed at the bad guys but they always come back to the goodness, strength and faithfulness of the LORD God Almighty! In all times, calmness and trouble, we should keep focused on our Hope, Jesus! Please come soon, Lord, so Your glory will be seen by everyone!
7 See what they spew from their mouths— they spew out swords from their lips, and they say, “Who can hear us?” 8 But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you scoff at all those nations.
sometimes when no one is around it is easy to think that God is not there, but he is, and he can hear and see what you are doing. God is always there and he is never going to leave

Psalm 59:12 For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, 13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more.
This psalm is a prayer for deliverance when David is being attacked by his enemies. The most prominent weapon used against him is the tongue, as his enemies attack him with slander and curses. What stood out to me was how brutal our speech can be if we use it to tear others down and not build them up. David is calling upon God to bring out a cup of wrath on his enemies primarily because they are speaking ill of him. I must realize that sin with my speech is a serious offense against the people I am slandering or gossiping about, but more importantly, it is a violent outrage against God. As a Christian I should be using my tongue to build others up, not to tear them down. James 3 is a great passage that instructs Christians to have pure speech and fight the battle against our wicked tongues with bold resolve. Lord, help me to realize that anything I say against others is an attack against them and against You. Help me to use my tongue to glorify You, build others up and speak the truth in Love.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble
Because there are always reasons to praise God, I should always be joyful and thankful to Him who is my Savior in times of trouble. He is the rock upon which I stand, and I should share His word with others so that they can stand upon a rock and not sinking sand.
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah
God is so powerful He rules over us he knows what we are going to do before we do it so we should be living our lives to the fullest
Goodmorning . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 58 & 59 . . .
“Chapter 58, is talking about how wicked people’s venom is equivilant to the venom of a snake. Wicked people are just so strong in their sin that they don’t listen to their “charmer” no matter how good the enchanter may be.”
“Chapter 59 is talking about, how wicked people just walk around as if their ways aren’t wrong, and how God can’t hear what they say. WRONG. They scrimage around the city looking for food and not satisfied what their God has blessed them with.
“7. See what they spew from their mouths – they spew out swords from their lips, and they say, “Who can hear us?” Little do they know that the God who made them knows every sin commited and every word spoken, be it good or bad. I remember reading on C.O.T.D. this one verse and it said something similar to this, praising God and cursing cannot come out of the same mouth. Meaning, it’s either one or the other. I can’t worship God and praise Him for who He is, and then just go off and curse at people and bring them down. I need to keep that in mind when maybe a bad word is about to slip out of my mouth. I need to think twice and realize first off, I can’t do both; second off, I shall not be wicked, like those people. Third off, I shouldn’t bring someone down because it’s a SIN.

Ps. 59:13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.
Even though David is asking for the destruction of his enemies, he wants it done in a way that brings glory to God. In everything, even the difficult times (which, to be honest, sound much worse than what we have to go through), David wanted to ensure that the Lord’s name was lifted high and that everyone saw His glory and power and protection for Israel. In the same way, I need to make sure that EVERYTHING I do is for God’s glory. Even when things are hard and I am going through trials or persecution, I should be willing to endure whatever God puts me through, knowing that He uses all situations for our good and His glory.
3 Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.
4 Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears,
5 that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be.
These verses give us even more proof that everyone is born a sinner. Everyone is born going astray and rebelling against what is good. I babysit a lot, and I see proof of this almost every time I babysit! Last year I was babysitting 2 8 month old babies, and even though they were very young, they understood what rebellion was and chose to do it! It reminds me of how much we need God’s grace. We have absolutely no excuse because everyone has sinned, everyone has turned away from God. I want to be constantly reminded of God’s grace towards me!
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
Thank you God. He created all and I am soo thankful. God is a God of love but also of wrath. We should praise Him all the day long, for He is so awesome. He protects us from what we cannot handle and pulls us out in our time of need. He is an amazing God and deserves all of our praise! Thank you LORD!!! :]
***SING PRAISE!!!***
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
What a great verse! God is my refuge and strength when I go through hardships. That means I should be always praising Him, just like the psalmist is here. We have such a great God; He will always be there when we run to Him.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
I was reminded of the perspective I need to have in ALL times, whether good or bad, that God is my strength. I want my response to be like that of the Psalmist, that in the morning or in other words from the time I wake up , praising God for His goodness, for His love and for the fact that He is sovereign and in control of all things. What an amazingly awesome and faithful God we serve and how immutable He is no matter what we may be going through or what is going on around us!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
Great comment, Vaness. I want to be praising God in the good times and bad. In Ecclesiastes 3 it tells us that there is a time for everything. Verse 11 says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” If it were up to us, I think we’d want to be in a constant season of peace and happiness. But God loves us too much to let that happen. We go through trials to grow and strengthen our faith and relationship with Christ. So let’s praise him in the storms as well. No one likes to eat flour, but everyone loves cake. But we can’t eat the cake without the flour ;)
14 “They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
15 They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.”
The wicked wander. They always seem to be seeking something that is just beyond their reach. They always want more and more and more, never being satisfied. The reason for this is because they’re looking in all the wrong places. If they would turn to God and seek Him, *then* they would find true satisfaction and contentment.
That’s basically what David is saying here. Although the wicked wander about and howl when they’re not satisfied, he (David) is so content and safe that he sings praises to the Lord. God is his refuge, his shelter, the unchangeable thing in his constantly changing life. In the Lord he trusts and is content.
And although that was several thousand years ago, the same is true today! Lord, help me to be content and confident in you.
17 “O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.”
I am nothing without God’s strength, God IS our strength. I cannot stand against Satan and face temptation by my own strength. When my enemies attack me, I can go to God and He will be a fortress to me. This is so comforting to know. God is my everything, without Him, I cannot do anything. I need to realize that God is my strength and I have to rely on Him completely!
!!!MARANATHA!!!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!
LORD, let me blameless so they will see my good works and glorify you LORD. Help me LORD when they hate me for being in the light. Let me tell them the gospel even if I get persecuted for it LORD. Amen.
God is my strength, just like David said here. He was singing about His love for him, just like we sing about His love at True North. He deserves all the praise that I give Him because He’s my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. Just like Ben talked about at one of the beach nights, God’s love for Christians is unchanging and no matter what is going on in our lives, He’s always just as loving. I can take comfort in that. Also, He protects me and keeps me safe from evil and everyhting else that could harm me. He is my strong tower and i’m very grateful that He is there for me!
Oh and sorry for the split comment, i accidentally clicked “submit comment” after i pasted the vers. XD
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
Ahh this is the verse I’m using for my worship song! I love this passage, its amazing! There are so many things to praise and glorify God for! He will never leave nor forsake us, and he is always there and in times of trouble! That definitely gives me strength!
10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
it’s sooo good to be back online (& back from vacation)–I missed sotd!
While bathing one’s feet in the blood of an enemy sounds/is pretty gross, it’s a vivid image of how triamphant we are when we wait on YHWH & rely on HIS justice. Then, & only then, can we rejoice in destruction of evil-doers.
It seems that this theme of “surely there is a God who judges the earth” is a prominent one, especially in the OT. How blessed we are to have a God who’s timing & judgment are perfect!!!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
David keeps emphasizing that God is his fotress when he is in trouble. He has faith that God will protect him from his enemies and he is trusting in God. I also need to have faith in God when I am going through trials and people are persecuting me for following God’s command. I need to be strong and know that God’s plan is perfect and He will protect me.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
God is our refuge in times of trouble and we need to sing of his glory all day long. We need to praise God in the good and through the bad. God is good and faithful and will protect us and shelter us in times of trouble if we trust in him. I pray that no matter what, we trust in God as our shelter and we praise his name twenty four seven.
17 “O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.” david totally trusts in God for his strength in everything he does. i need to trust in God for everything i do.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
This verse teaches me that I should always rely upon God and put my strength in Him and to see Him as a foundation for my walk.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
David is not in the best of situations right now. Saul is out to kill him. He has sent men to watch David’s house and kill him. Yet even though David knows that people are out to kill him, he still sings of God’s strength, and sings of His love in the morning. He sees that the LORD is His fortress and protection in times of trouble, such as what he was going through right then. I need to sing of the LORD’s great strength and love. I need to fall back on Him always as my fortress, my protection even when all else may fail. And though I may not be going through the bad times David was experiencing with Saul out to get him, I still need to praise the LORD and trust only in Him as my refuge. Even when things are going easy and well, I need to not forget the LORD and His goodness to me. Instead I need to continue to sing to Him and praise His name in worship!
ELLO… I read
I like verse 1-2,”Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge uprightly among men? No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth.”
I like this verse because it tells of our imperfection… well not as much as us being imperfect more of focusing how GOD is perfect and these judges can’t compare to HIM and HIS justice. On earth our judges can be bribed and are greedy. We are going to have a perfect judge who is GOD and HE will not overlook sin HE will judge everyone according to their actions.
CYA
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
It says even the men(or unbelievers) will recognize the presence of God and that He will punish them and the unrighteous. God is so amazing and awesome that even the wicked know He exists. God is so amazing and I want to serve Him always!!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
I know everyone else has already done this verse, but i’m gonna do it too cuz it’s a great verse. This is a great verse of praise. God is really the only thing we can truley rely o and sometimes i forget that. I need to remember this verse when i get worried
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
I like these verses because it reminds me of what I need to do more- praise God. It also provides inspiration and a reminder of how awesome God is. He is strong, just, loving, and merciful. All in one. There is no one even close to the amazingness of God. He sent his son to die for us so that we would not perish. He is awesome. We could never praise him enough, and I know that I really do not. He deserves my praise all the time, the least I could do is step it up a little bit. Verses like these help me do that. They are terrific inspiration and a reminder. Two more verse to go on my mirror!
9 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress,
It is a theme in the book of Psalm that David explains that God is his fortress and refuge in times of trouble. When we are in trouble we need to pray and trust that God’s will, will be done.
1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
I pray, dear Lord, that you not only deliver me from the evil in my enemies but also the evil in myself. Make every sin clear to me so that I may be clean and righteous before You.
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah
David was all about wanting to see God praised and glorified above all else. This just made me think about the things I do and desire, are they because I want God to be glorified or because of some other reason? God is so amazingly good and I want to see Him glorified in all aspects of my life, so I want to make sure that my motives for whatever I do are always for His glory and not for anything less.
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
Though most people live there lives as if they will not be accountable for their actions, Christians should not. James 2:12 say “Speak and act as those who are going to be judged…”. Every word I speak and every action I commit will be accounted for someday. Thus I need to be careful about what I say and do.
6 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
This verse shows me that we can cry out to the Lord and he is there. I can put my trust in him and he will not leave me. I need to go straight to God when I have problems. I need to praise God everyday like this verse reminds me to do because he is so faithful.
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
Yes! What a profound statement. It’s really hard to imagine them saying this especially in today’s society but I want to pray that I’ll hear these words instead of seeing people hardening their hearts. Since the school year is starting really soon, I need to prepare myself even more to seek God’s guidance and wisdom for evangelizing.
9 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress,
I want God to be my only fortress and my strength! I’m going to continually watch for ways to serve and seek Him.
10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
This is really gruesome, but the result of God’s wrath on sin and satan should be nothing less than total and complete destruction. I am excited for the day when we will share in that victory with God… ” when satan is vanquished and Jesus is king”!!!!!
6 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
This reminds me a lot about the discription of satan in 1 Peter 5:8. Just like Saul’s henchmen were slandering David (v.12) and ploting his asasination, satan also slanders us before God (Rev. 12:10) and desires our destruction. I want to be like David and instead of fearing satan and the world I will have faith in God and my salvation; praising God for His unfailing love!
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
This is a truth. An absolute truth. GOD judges the wicked and causes them to fall and stumble. No matter what happens, GOD can bring down the wicked hearts of evil men, and raise up righteous men to rein in their place.
9 Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns— whether they be green or dry—the wicked will be swept away.
10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
Wow. These verses are intense! It’s amazing that even before Jesus was on this earth, it was known that God would come back, punish the wicked and reward the righteous. That is very encouraging, and very nice to know because if someone says that John made the book of Revelation up, I will know that he definitly did not, and that it was known that God would come back. Not only have these verses informed me, they have also taught me to never doubt God for even a second, and that He will always keep His promise!
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah
These Psalms are all about God’s amazing wrath… he never fails to open a can on those who oppose him or his followers! As I said yesterday, knowing that the Lord of the Universe is in control all the time and will watch out for me, now THATS comfortable.
10 The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Then men will say, “Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.”
When something bad happens to someone, it is almost always punishment for their sins against God, unless it is just God testing us in our walk. But if I see someone that is not a follower of God and something bad is happening to Him, I shouldn’t see God as an evil being, but instead realize that this means that God is just and will judge the wicked.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
I love how David calls God his fortress and refuge…and he REALLY means it since there are people tracking him down to kill him as he writes this psalm. We SAY God is our fortress, but do we really turn to Him when things get tough?? I always want to seek God and to see him as my refuge…He is the only true refuge that exists!
8 But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you scoff at all those nations.
I love how David cries out to the Lord for help. He knows that the Lord is more powerful than Saul and his men. Even the most powerful people here on this earth are not even close to being as powerful as God. And its not always people I or others fear. I know for a fact that i fear situations, feelings, choices. The Lord is the only One i should be fearing. He has control over my life, He gives me air to breath…He is the King! I have to make sure my priorities are straight all the time!
MARANATHA!!!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
I really love this verse! The lord should be the first we tell our troubles to and the first we trust in our times of need. He is the most powerful and loving one in our lives and he is also the one with complete control over our lives!! I think this verse is also showing the importance of “sing[ing] of [the Lord's] strength” and love. God is so good to us, so we should share that with the world! :)
In these chapters David is still running for his life (bummer). Some of the prayers he makes are pretty intense: “Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; tear out, O LORD, the fangs of the lions” (Psalm 58:6)! And thats what God does (don’t want to spoil the surprise, but Saul is killed in an unseemly accident). It’s good to know David was delivered, and more than that, made king over Israel. God is good! – All the time! From this chapter I can see that the wicked will be punished and the righteous will be rewarded. So I obviously want to be pursuing righteousness.
Good Psalms!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
This verse is really good to think about. I especially can relate to the second half of the verse, becasue he really needs to be my refuge in times of trouble. Whenever I am going through something trying or difficult, instead of getting bummed out about it, I need to run to the Lord, for he will give me strength to overcome whatever is the difficulty.
12 For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter,
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah
Wow, God is almighty. God punishes the non believers. But David ask something very strange and almost cynical, he says “11 But do not kill them, O Lord our shield, or my people will forget. In your might make them wander about, and bring them down.” wow, he would rather his people suffer and be able to stay worshiping God, because it is always easy to worship God when it is easy, but when it gets hard, people tend to back down. Then He begs God to bring his wrath upon the nonbelievers and ” consume them till they are no more.” that is CRAZY! He begs God to use them as examples, then pulls a maranatha out of his back pocket praying for God’s judgement to come. wow, intense.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
God is my fortress the foundation of my life. He is the strength that gets me going and the shield that will protect me. I thank you God for being the foundation of my life and my fortress.
1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
2 Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men.
It is just so comforting to know that God is always there in good times and bad and that if i need Him i can pray and he will comfort me and protect me
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.
God isn’t just a god of love and peace but He does punish those who do wrong and he will open a can of woop’um if he has to
4 Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears,
5 that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be.
I don’t want to act like the wicked and hear things and not pay attention to them. Again, Bobby’s “Listening is only half the battle” comes to mind. I need to make sure that I’m not “conveniently forgetting” parts of sermons or something….or even just if my parents tell me to do something!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
God’s love is awsome and he is always there when you need him. You can always go to god if you have a problem. This verse shows how god’s love is awsome and we should praise him for always watching over us.
1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
2 Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men.
David cryed out to God in His time of need. That is what we need to be doing everyday. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” Praise the LORD in everything. MARANATHA!!!!!
heyyaa!
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.—Love this chapter! This verse reminds me that I need to be praising God and giving Him thanks for the strength and life he gives me everyday! I know I don’t do that enough and I need to do that through everything! No matter bad or good. I am going to be thanking God for these tough times because He gives me those for a reason and they are meant for me to grow closer to Him. And I am going to praise Him for the blessings!!
stilling thinking about the amazing message Pastor Bobby gave this weekend!
MARANATHA!!!
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
This is a great verse. I need to remember that God is my strength and I must praise the Lord day,night. He is my fortress and I need to thank him because He is such a great God.
3 Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.
We don’t have to be taught to be sinful, we’re that way from birth. Our sin nature leads us before anything else, to be selfish and greedy. We have to be TAUGHT to do what’s right, which is exactly why its so important to be in the Word! There’s nothing else that provides that kind of wisdom. Its the will of God and the manual for my life- and that’s a great encouragement to keep studying and doing what God wants me to do!
9 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress,
This verse is awesome, He is my strength, All of our strength, and I will watch for him, I can’t wait for his arrival, but first do what He has made me to do, fulfill my purpose, He is my fortress and always will be, He is a person I could always go to.
David had so much faith in God.
6 Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; tear out, O LORD, the fangs of the lions!
In this verse, he shows his faith that God has the power to do all that David was asking in this passage, especially in this verse. We need to again look at him as a example. We need to pray earnestly just like David.
3 Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.
This shows how desperately we need God. Out of the womb we have no hope because of our sin. But once we recognize how much we need faith in Christ, our lives completely change. We no longer rely on ourselves, but on the Lord. All our confidence is in him. It’s terrible for those who deny him. That is why we need to go on our campuses this year sharing the gospel! Pray for boldness.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!
David reiterates again in this verse that he has done nothing wrong and is still being persucted by the wicked. We talk about persuction a lot in True North, but as I was thinking about this verse tonight it made me remember that I better be getting persecuted for the right reasons.
1 Peter 2:20, “But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.”
I pray that my persecution comes for Christ’s sake, rather than my own wrong-doing!
13 consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah
God is a wrathful God. it is sad how often people only focus on the loving part of God that they forget that he is a jealous God and wants people serving him instead of other things or themselves. God’s wrath is definitely something that I don’t want to experience, and I don’t want others to experience it either. This verse reminds me that evangelism is a very important thing to do. How can Christians say that they love everyone and not tell others the good news that can save them from eternal punishment?
Psalm 58, verse 3
right when we are born we have a sinful nature and the only thingthat can break us from our sinful ways is Christ. Praise God for providing a way out from sin by Christ and letting us be born again.
16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
I reallly like the “morning” part of this verse. A lot of people make excuses for not spending time in the word like not having enough time. Well, for me, the morning time is perfect….even if you have to get up 20 minutes early. Jesus gave up his whole life for us, so we can give up 20 minutes everday for him.
Whoa! These Psalms are intense!
Two things stood out to me.
1) David had enemies. While I do not have people trying to kill me like David did, I will have people who oppose me if I am trying to live for Christ!
2) God was David’s refuge. And he must be my refuge, too, as I seek to live for him!
Psalm 59:9-10 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
I need to always keep God at the fore-front of my mind when times are tough, and I am being persecuted because of Christ! i need to remember that what I am doing is all for his glory, and not be selfish and think about “how bad I have it” or something like that. Also, I need to rely on God more when people persecute me for being a Christian.
17 O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.
I love how he keeps saying “O my Strength”! God is all-powerful and is my Strength now just as He was David’s. God is the same now as He was when David was on this earth and that shows how awesome God is! He is never changing, He is my Strength, and He deserves all my praise forever!!!
These whole two Psalms were mainly a cry out to God from David asking for revenge on his enemies. He told him how he felt about how they treat him and constantly asked God to punish them. But in verses like this, 16″ But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble,” it makes me think that even in David’s lowest lows he really turned a really bad situtation into something that glorifies God. In my bad situations, I find myself complaining and dreading and feeling bad for myself, rather than doing what David did here and praise God for all he has done and is. From now on, I am going to try to take situations like this and turn them around towards God so that he gets the glory and I don’t sin in my complaining.
<3 nighty night…well me and mady wont be going to bed for a while haha
9 O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress,
God is the only one that can protect us and keep us safe. he watches over us and is always there for us. david said that he was watching for Him, and we definitely need to be watching for Gods return to earth and making sure that we r doing His work as much as possible cuz He is coming soon!
ok so…David does a few things here…58….1. lays out what these bad guys are doing…2. says what is going to happen to them because they don’t listen to God…59…1. prays that God will deliver him from his enemies…2. God would show his glory and strike down his enemies….
much of these verses are focused on God and his praise…David didn’t want to take an unrighteous vengence on his enemies but to leave it up to God…he wanted God to get the glory for taking down those who were against Him and David…I pray that I would leave all in Gods hands and not try to take vengence on my own terms…
