Psalms 52-53

The Steadfast Love of God Endures

To the choirmaster. A Maskil of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”

52:1 Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
Your tongue plots destruction,
like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah
You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.

But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
The righteous shall see and fear,
and shall laugh at him, saying,
“See the man who would not make
God his refuge,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches
and sought refuge in his own destruction!”

But I am like a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
forever and ever.
I will thank you forever,
because you have done it.
I will wait for your name, for it is good,
in the presence of the godly.

There Is None Who Does Good

To the choirmaster: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David.

53:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.

God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

They have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.

Have those who work evil no knowledge,
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon God?

There they are, in great terror,
where there is no terror!
For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. (ESV)

5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.

in this verse it talkes about how will punish the evil and take them away, so even thoug they had everything on this world God took them away because they were doing evil.

  2. Dave Hosford praying for revival before He comes says:

Ps 52:7-8 “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!” But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

Here’s an interesting contrast – David and Doeg are both sinning by being in the temple of the LORD. But David draws a distinction about the condition of each man’s heart: Doeg, the converted Jew got wealthly as Saul’s flock caretaker on the backs of others while David trusted in God and ‘flourished’.

I want to be a person who trusts in the LORD and not in money or the comfort of this easy OC lifestyle. Lord, thank You for saving grace and help me to live for You and by You today. Let Your will be my desire today and please, please, PLEASE come soon!

  3. Zach V says:

12 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God

No one seeks God; God chooses you. As a non-christian, I was so wrapped up in sin, so dead in the spirit, that i could never seek God. I never grabbed a hold of a life line but Christ jumped in the water and saved me. LORD, let me always think of your love that you would die for me, a sinner.

  4. Max says:

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

This verse is just awesome. David flat out calls all those who don’t belive in God fools. Take that foolish athiests!

9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

God has done so much for me, and David described it right when he said that He deserves to be praised forever. And in His name I have hope, not just hoping that sometihng will happen, but a hope that is asured and true. It’s because He always keeps His promises, He just might take a while. And He is good! He is very very good!

  5. Chelseaaaaa says:

4 You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!

Our tongues are a great weapon. It can be glorifying to God and also slanderous and evil. As Christains, no evil should come out of our mouths for “fresh and salt water can not come from the same spring..”

    Mr. Hosford . . . SOLID COMMENT!

    Goodmorning . . .

    I read . . .

    Psalm 52 & 53 . . .

“7. Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”

Yes, my life here on earth is nice and I have everything I could ask for and MORE. But that’s the thing. Should I really be getting comfortable living in such an enviornment (the O.C.) and not step outside of my comfort zone? No! I need to get out of my O.C. bubble and realize that other people out there, even in our own backyard (L.A.), are suffering completely. I mean just look at the economy “Recession.” How horrible, depressing, and uprooting it is to most families.

This verse is clearly stating, don’t get comfortable in your wealth and desire to destroy others. (meaning: bring them down) I am to instead be the OPPOSITE. I should be EXTREMELY THANKFUL TO HAVE ALL THAT I HAVE. However, I shouldn’t LOVE it and covet even more. I need to be content with I have and THANKFUL for what God has over-blessed me with.

“8. But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.”

I should follow my life by this verse. I shouldn’t be like the one above, rich, spoiled, and a destoryer of others. I should flourish in my Heavenly Father and have strong roots in my Faith with Him. Because God has unfailing love for EVER & EVER I am to Trust in Him no matter what. He is my rock and stronghold, and I am to rely on Him ALWAYS!

  7. Beth Lauder says:

3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

This verse is quoted in Romans 3:12. Paul uses this verse to instruct both Jews and Gentiles that they are all under the power of sin. There is no way anyone could read this verse and think that there was a possibility that they could get to heaven by being a good person. We are all born into a state of sin and our default destination when we die is hell. Memorizing Scripture and knowing what the Bible has to say about sin and salvation is a powerful tool to use when we evangelize. Let’s be sure that we know verses like this one, Psalm 53:3 to share with people who tell us that they are going to heaven because they are “good” people.

  8. Riley Hancock says:

2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

So day God will pick us from this earth and that day I will be ready.

  9. Alyssa K says:

8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

The olive tree survives and thrives through intense heat just like David withstands trials, trusting in God. And as a good servant of the Lord, he can produce good fruit, just as the olive tree produces good olive oil. God is the number one person I trust and I pray that I can become a flourishing olive tree in his house.

  10. Elise says:

2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one

Awesome comments today! Just echoing what Beth said: It is clear here that EVERYONE is a sinner! He even defines what sinning is in verse 3- turning away from God, plotting together, and not doing good but evil. We all have turned away from God, yet for some reason He still loves us and gives us an opportunity to be with Him. What if your closest friend or a brother or sister completely turned against you, plotted against you, and did evil things to you? Would you still love them? Would you want them to spend even another day as your friend? Would you send yourself to die for them? How much more astounding is it that the Holy God of the universe would do all of that for sinful, betraying humans like us!

  11. PaYtOn :D says:

52:9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

I love the LORD! and thank HIM for all He had done in my life. He is good and His love endures forever. I will praise Him forever and for always, for He has created and loved me and has prepared plans for me. :]

53:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

Who is crazy enough to say there is no god, when you look outside and you know that something, some god must have created all of this. Some people lead to thewrong conclusions on who that might be. But GOD is there and He is the creater of all things(thank goodness, or this world would not even be here). When I was little and I disobeyed I would think to myself that God wasn’t watching all the time, because it would be very hard for Him to look at everyone all the time(haha I was wrong about that) God is always watching and He is ready to catch me when I fall. He is GOOD and He is THERE and He LOVES YOU and ME!!! SO glory be to God for all He has done, and will do! Thank you Jesus! :D

***GOD IS WATCHING AND IS READY!!!***

  12. Mike says:

5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.

God will not tolerate sin forever. Although this verse is talking about the destruction of the unbelievers, it applies to us as Christians as well. God will not allow His children to live in sin; He will discipline them, as 1 Corinthians 11:30 shows, even with death if necessary to keep them out of sin. I need to make sure I take my sin seriously and stay far away from God’s judgement. Instead, I want to be like David in verse 8, who flourished in the house of God – by meditating on His Word and doing what it said.

  13. Nachooooooooooo says:

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

Just by looking outside at the world we live in, there is so much evidence for God. Yet people still have trouble accepting that He is real. It is our job to tell people that the All-powerful, Just, and Loving God is there.

9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

I need to be praising God all the time for what He has done in my life. He has blessed me with so much. What a blessing it is to serve such a Great God!

  14. Ian H. says:

    ~Psalm 52~
4 “You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!
5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.”

For the most part, this Psalm makes it clear that God will judge/destroy those wicked who use their tongue for evil purposes (such as slander and deceit). Although I (and all us Christians) am under God’s grace in Jesus, the Lord still hates all sin, and using the tongue for evil is something He takes very seriously. I need to make sure that what’s coming out of my mouth is pleasing and glorifying to Him.

    ~Psalm 53~
2 “God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

A great reminder of the state of sinful mankind. Without the work of Jesus Christ, we would all still be like this: turned from God, corrupt, and headed for Hell. Praise the Lord that, in His great mercy and love, He sent us the solution to our problem, the hope for those who were hopelessly doomed. Thank you God!

  15. Jenae (= says:

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

I cant even imagine why anyone would say this. You can take one look around and see the oceans, mountains, trees and animals and the only explanation for these beautiful things is GOD! But today, lots of people claim that there is no God. I pray that true north can go out there this school year and find those people and God will use his power through us to save them!

  16. 8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

The one who is steadfast and trusts in the Lord forever (has true salvation) is going to have the security of eternal salvation and enter into it one day. I love that my foundation is in Him, I love that because of Him I can have security and assurance in my salvation! :))

  17. P.J. says:

“I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.”

God calls us to rejoice always, and David is doing just that. He came to a point of realizing how much greater trusting in the Almighty God is compared to trusting in wealth and riches. I need to be like David in this because God has done so much for me (and for everyone) and has blessed me greatly. He sent his innocent Son to die a brutal death on a cross for my deceitful, wicked heart. I always have something to rejoice in, and that is life after death with Jesus Christ in heaven.

Philippians 4:4-5 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”

  18. elizabeth holt :D says:

Ps 52:8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.
9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

God deserves so much more praise than He gets! I know I’ve been saying this alot lately, but it is so true! God gives us so much and we should always rejoice in His name. Just yesterday, God showed His unfailing love for me and my family. We were in a pretty tough situation but just trusted God and He got us through! I have found myself randomly singing praise songs to Him and I want this overwhelming desire to praise Him continue this week!

Ps 53:3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

Not even the most righteous man alive has done good “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Rom 3:23. In at least one point in our lives we have all sinned greatly against God. Most of these happenings were probably before we were Christian. But that doesnt mean we are free from the temptations of sin after we are saved. That is when we are tempted most because Satan is angry after having lost another one from His team(because if we are not on God’s team we are on Satan’s team). So there is “not one who does good…” so we need God’s mercy and forgiveness all the more! And once again, praise rises to my lips as I see how much mercy God has given us and how much He loves us. PRAISE TO JESUS CHRIST!!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!

  19. Michelle [slave for Christ] 2010 says:

2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

I wonder, if God looked down from heaven and saw me, would He see me as a child who seeks Him? or would i appear like everyone who does not seek Him?
I need to be sure that i am striving to live as blameless as possible. I need to think to myself “would God be okay with me doing this?”
This is extremely convicting! i need to be sure that i am also setting a good example and giving a good rep to JC in school too. I want others to know that living my life for JC is a good thing, and that i stand out and that i do what is right for God…but make sure that its not to give myself glory, but all the glory to GOD!

    MARANATHA!

  20. Meisha Preston says:

2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

It is so popular today to say that people are seeking after God. We have “seeker friendly” churches everywhere. These verses right here show that NO ONE seeks God. “EVERYONE has turned away.” No one seeks God. Left to ourselves we are sinful and hate God. Only when God works on our hearts can we seek him. Only Christians can really seek God. Verse 3 also emphasizes that there are no good people. Wow! This also is directly against our culture today who says most people are good. Not even one person is good. I need to remind myself of this so that I’m not corrupted by the way our culture thinks. I want to think like God thinks.

  21. hunter 2010 says:

    Amen Payton!

2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.
3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Selah
4 You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!

David wrote psalm 52 after the events of 1 Sam. 21-22. In 1 Sam. 21 David had fled from Saul and the first place he goes is the temple of the Lord in Nob (a town of priests) to see Ahimelech the high priest; after lying to Ahimelech about why he is alone (not a good thing!) David eats the consecrated bread and takes back Goliath’s sword wich was kept there. During this whole time Doeg the Edomite (Saul’s chief shephard like Mr. Hosford said), whom psalm 52 was written about, was in the temple eavesdroping on what Daivd said. In 1 Sam. 22 Doeg capitalized on David’s lie and reported back to Saul saying that Ahimelech had “sided” with David against Saul, when in reality Ahimelech thought He was helping David on asignment from the King! Because of Doeg’s deception (and ultimately David’s) the whole town of Nob was slain and so was the the whole family of Ahimelech and his father’s house…because of Doeg’s and David’s decietfull words a whole town of priests was masacred. I never want to lie ever again in my life! Even if, like in David’s case, my life depends on it. I instead want to trust God and have faith in Him!

6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Salvation did come out of Zion; Jesus was a Jew and was crucified for not only for the Jews but also the world (Rom.1:16)! Praise God!

  22. Brooke Miller says:

2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.

This stood out to me a lot! The tongue is so powerful and this verse is a motivation to think before I speak since whatever is said can either build someone up, or destroy them! Ephesians 4:29!

  23. ELLA says:

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

Who can say there is no God. Who do they think made the earth and if there was evolution who made the little speck of dirt or particle that exploded into the universe. Only God can do that and only he is good, right and just. There IS a God and He is watching over us and protecting us.

  24. Cameron says:

3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

this passage speaks strongly at the status of men before God changes us. we are totally dead in our sins, and their is nothing that we can do about it. Paul uses a lot of this chapter (Psalm 53) in Romans 3 when he talks about man’s depravity. we need to realize that we bring nothing to the table at our justification, it is all by God’s grace. so lets praise God today and forever for the amazing work He has done in changing our hearts and lives!

  25. kyle, the adventure begins september 8th! says:

    Psalm 52:
2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.

The tongue is the most wicked part of our body that I can think of so much sin can come from there like slander, gossip, cursing, coarse joking, lies, boasts, ect.

James 3:5 “Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”

    Psalm 53:

2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

How humbling! What is God saying about me:1) I don’t understand Him, 2) I don’t seek him, 3) I have turned away, 4) I am corrupt, 5) I’m not good. I have sinned so many times Lord and I’m so unworthy Lord to be in your presence, but you loved me and provided a way through your Son by putting my punishment on the cross!

  26. Josh Larson says:

6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
God will protect his people and take care of them. he will always provide a way out of hard ships. i need to work on finding the way out that God provides to us

  27. Maddison Nadeau says:

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?

This verse stood out to me alot. Why do we boast of evil? Why do we boast of things of this world and try to gain powers over those who belong to it? In the eyes of God we are nothing. We are nothing to him, those of us who live in the world and boast of being a part of it. Those of us who do that are disgraceful to God and he does not want anything to do with us. We may believe that we are for God, but if we boast in worldly pride and ignore his teachings the day that we meet our Lord in heaven He will look at us and say ‘turn from me, evildooer. i never knew you.’ We must follow the Lord’s teachings in everything that we do! it is SO important to cast away things from the world and humble ourselves before Him. the creator of all things.

2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.

3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Selah

These verses reminded me of something me and my mom were talking about last night. Many people try to find pleasure in things of the world. Things that are only temporary and will fade. They love things that are false, and wont ever give them lasting happyness and pleasure. They look to hurt others for this temporary feeling of beeing bigger, or beeing more powerful. They use their words to hurt the people around them and they learn to rely on false teachings! I pray that we all cast away false teachings and the ways of the world! :D God is SO Great!

  28. Eric Walker says:

7 “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”

This serves a great example of what happens to those who do not trust and take shelter in God as their stronghold, the destroy themselves. God is our refuge and stands at the doors with open arms, welcoming us into his presence. With God, all things are possible (Philippians 4:13). If we turn to God when in trouble or tempted, we will never fail and will reign victorious over sin. I pray that we all turn to God whether the good or bad, and that we trust that he will provide and deliver us from our temptations and our trials. Just like James 1 talks about, we should rejoice when we are faced with trials because trials develop patience (James 1:2).

  29. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

6 The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying,

This verse encourages me to fear God. When things are going good some times I forget that I must fear God and I just think of Gods love. I need to read verses like this to remind my self that the righteous will fear God.

  30. Sarah G.! says:

8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

Fantab comment Alyssa, I definitely agree with you on this verse! My desire is to be more like God, trusting in Him with all my life! I pray that God will use me so that I may represent Christ as a flourishing tree bearing many blessings, not a dying tree offering nothing. :D

  31. Never Take David Personal says:

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

wow…This verse cannot be true. If it is true than how come there are so many brilliant scientists saying that nothing evolved into the earth. Our view of what makes one a fool is so skewed. So many of the smartest people in this world are fools because of one simple fact…they do everything in their power to deny the one truth that really matters…it is sad…This leads us to two points….1. we need to be evangelizing….and 2. we cannot lean on our own understanding, we have got to accept truth, not try to get around it because it makes us uncomfortable…

actually one extra point without God we cannot do good…just like Hebrews 11:6 without faith it is impossible to please God…ok that is it…

  32. Steffen Eriksen says:

9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

Like PJ was saying, God calls all of us to rejoice always. King David is praising the LORD for all that He has done, for ever and ever. He says that in His name he will hope, for the name of God Almighty is good. He says he will praise him in the presence of His saints. This needs to be my attitude all the time. I need to always be full of joy as I rejoice in the LORD. And it is quite easy to be glad and grateful as I do praise God when things are going my way. When God is allowing the things around me to be flowing smoothly and just letting everything run well. Yet even when it is more difficult, even when I am feeling tested and tried, or when I am feeling rotten and depressed, or down in the dumps, I still need to rejoice and be glad, for God blesses me with each breath of air that I breathe and just so much more than I can ever imagine. And I need to hope in His name, for His name is good; that I always remember how much better God is than everything else that may pointlessly try to compete with Him. May I always be grateful and joyful- no matter what the circumstances are, may I praise the LORD!

  33. Double it up on psalms about evil people! I put these two psalms together today because I thought they had a lot of similarities about wicked people who do not want to walk with God. Yesterday we saw a great example of repentance from David in Psalm 51. He sinned, but he wanted to get right in his relationship with God. Unfortunately, the people in these psalms don’t have that desire. They boast about their sin as if it is a good thing (Psalm 52:1) They foolishly say that there is no God (Psalm 53:1).

Let’s be honest…this is reality…this is the way people in our world are. And this is the world you are walking into when as you go back to school…I am praying for you True North! That we will spread revival at our schools by telling them the good news of Jesus! I am also praying that you will stand out as you live for Christ on campus!

One way we are going to specifically talk about standing out at school is when it comes to sexual purity. Hope to see you at True North this weekend as we look at Back To School With The Bible #2: When God Teaches Sex Ed

3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Selah
1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;there is no one who does good.—My prayer is that I can be opposite to the people who are going in the total opposite direction that God wants everyone to be in! I plan on being a 100% follower on God’s team! And sometimes I might not notice what sins I am commiting but I know that I do stuff all the time that just break the Lord’s heart and all of the bad things I do makes me someone who goes against God’s Word and I pray that I will jsut turn from all of that and be aware of my sins and make sure I am totally on God’s team!!

soo excited for true north tomorrow!!! praying for a revival!!! :D

  35. Alison says:

6 The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying,
7 “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”

I just watched that video “The Fire” today. This psalm really reminded me of it! The Bible says there’s going to be a lot of people in Hell (Matt 7:13) and these verses say that those of us in heaven will 1) see it, 2) fear God for how powerful and mighty he is, and 3) agree with the punishment that God has given- we will see God’s justice and shake our heads at those in Hell. Its hard to imagine now, but its coming!

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

    Atheism is foolish!! Enough said.

  36. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse well don’t like that this is true but it stood out to me 4,”You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!”

This verse stood out to me because it tells what is so commonly overlooked by most people. If someone in an average group says a word or insults someone hardly ever do you see his friends ask what did you say or try to get him to stop saying what he did. I need the courage to step up and be that person. I have often overlooked this and that needs to end I have ignored it so many times I have found myself using the same language and this will not be good. Pray for me so that I don’t do this and that I have the courage to stand up for whats right.

  37. Kelsey says:

3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

I like this verse, because it could be easily applied to most of the teenagers in high school in the US today. It reminds us of the real evil that surrounds us, Satan. He is just waiting to tempt us and succeed. It is our job to make sure he fails. He will use everybody around us too. I know that I need to keep reminding myself of this fact. I need to realize that the next time my friend asks me for my homework or invites me to a party, that is just the Devil trying to tempt me. i need to realize this, because once I do, it will be easier to stay firm for the Lord.

  38. Mady says:

    hellooooo my friends (:

I really liked verse 9! it was just something that was REALLY exciting to me and made me even more anxious than I already am for Christ to come back! I don’t know about you, but I can’t think about anything better than praising God for all eternity! I need to praise him more for saving me, because now ican praise him in heaven forever! also, I need to pray for God to save more people, and be more bold for him! If I can find this much excitement, joy, and hope knowing that one day I will spend FOREVER praising my creator, I want to share it with as many people as I possibly can! :)

  39. laura johnson says:

2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.

I like this verse because it reminds me of Proverbs 10:19 “When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise” because I think it can be difficult to think before I speak and these verses remind me that what we say can be sinful and to speak more about Christ and how good He is than anything else.

  40. Ben Blakey says:

I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

    I love this little phrase.

God’s love is unfailing. As we go through each day in our life, how awesome is it to realize that nothing can stop God’s love.

But I need to respond to God’s unfailing love with unfailing trust. Just as God’s love remains day after day, I need to make sure I am putting my trust in that love day by day.

  41. Dan Lauder says:

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

It shows how far the world is away from God when the “smartest” people around us say that we are fools for believing in God. I can think of many a University professor who would smugly dismiss God as something man made up. However, the Bible tells us these “smart” people are really fools. The creation of the universe, our planet, and life itself is written off as the results of a chance explosion where things randomly came together in just the right way. How many explosions have you seen where things were brought together in a highly ordered fashion? How many explosions have you seen where things go to a totally disordered state? It is interesting that those of us who don’t believe that we are the result of a random explosion are labeled fools. The Bible makes it clear who the real fools are!

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

  42. Evan McKee says:

5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

Wow, that doesn’t sound like something I want to go through. This verse really makes me feel the need to evangelize to others. It’s strange that so few christians are willing to go out and share the good news with everyone when they are supposed to love everyone, friends and enemies.

  43. Gabriel Voris 2010 says:

4 You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!

The tongue is a mighty weapon and many use it like a razor as said by David here. Unfortunately it is used in so many ways that are sinful. It is so easy to say thigs that do not glorify God and I catch myself doing it frequently. I pray that everything that comes from my mouth is glorifiying to the Lord and that my wotds will build others up.

  44. Murphy Danahy says:

7 “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”

Sounds like today, eh? Hundreds of people and businesses that made there money through deceit and evil. Many of them failed in the recession. You know who’s still afloat? The businesses that had good practices and ran themselves according to GOD’s word.

  45. kelly causky says:

These chapters compare the non-christian (evildoer) to the christian (righteous). People of this world, those who do not follow God, delight and boast in things they do wrong, like they are proud of it. They rely on themselves to succeed and they love themselves more than others. God calls this evil. However, sometimes as christians we are tempted to commit sins like these -boasting, not trusting completely in god, using bad language, and lacking love for others. We need to be careful and follow EVERY ONE of God’s commands because those who disobey Him will be brought down to “everlasting ruin.” Each day we need to make a STRONG effort to follow God’s every command.

  46. Ashlyn--:) says:

alot of the verses talk about everyoneee being corrupt and decietful, and alot of the time it seems like everyone is! many times i feel all along in my standards and faith, especially when i am at school, this is why compass is soo important to me! this verse also helpss me…
9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

We can always have hope in Christs return, we know one day he is comming back! I need to continue to praise the Lord and have hope in his awesome plan!

  47. Jasmine Douglas says:

8 … I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

We need to tattoo this on our foreheads. It’s so easy to get down and lose hope but we need to remember that God loves us. We need to trust in that. I am so thankful for his love and his mercy.

  48. Spencer Camp says:

    Cool Psalms!

This world is corrupt…all have sinned…no one on their own seeks God…if they are left alone they choose sin over good, therefore no one deserves God’s unfailing love. But as the New Covenant says, brought through the blood of Jesus Christ, we who are sinners have been transformed into a new creation and are now considered righteous before God. That is awesome, making me want to share the gospel so that more people could be saved from sin!

See everyone at True North tomorrow!

  49. Jackson Dahl says:

3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even on

God knows that we humans have failed him.. not even one of us can get it right. But as a Christian, this verse really inspires me to try to be as close to righteous as possilbe, and though I will sin, I can refrain from it and be as holy as possilble… this is God’s simple request of me.. so it should be my number one priority in my life!
