God Himself Is Judge
A Psalm of Asaph.
50:1 The Mighty One, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines forth.
3 Our God comes; he does not keep silence;
before him is a devouring fire,
around him a mighty tempest.
4 He calls to the heavens above
and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 “Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
6 The heavens declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge! Selah
7 “Hear, O my people, and I will speak;
O Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
8 Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you;
your burnt offerings are continually before me.
9 I will not accept a bull from your house
or goats from your folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the hills,
and all that moves in the field is mine.
12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and its fullness are mine.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
16 But to the wicked God says:
“What right have you to recite my statutes
or take my covenant on your lips?
17 For you hate discipline,
and you cast my words behind you.
18 If you see a thief, you are pleased with him,
and you keep company with adulterers.
19 “You give your mouth free rein for evil,
and your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your brother;
you slander your own mother’s son.
21 These things you have done, and I have been silent;
you thought that I was one like yourself.
But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
22 “Mark this, then, you who forget God,
lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!
23 The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!” (ESV)

Ps 50:21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
God is great and worthy of praise! He is not like us and will judge everyone. Thank You LORD for seeing us through the record of Your perfect Son, Jesus Christ, and giving us mercy and grace! Never let that gift slip from the center of our eyes… Maranatha!!!
14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
God had no real use for the animals that were being sacrificed to Him. He did not need them, and He was now at the point where He didn’t even want them, because it had become mere ritual to the people. The sacrifices were never supposed to be a box for Israel to check off, but that is what they had become. That is why God demanded the thank offering, so that the Israelites would be forced to stop and consider everything He had done for them, and the offering would have meaning. It is so easy in our lives today as well to do the right thing with the wrong motives, just to get it done and check off a box. But if I am constantly remembering what God has done for me and what He has rescued me from, and am constantly thanking Him through prayer, then things like meditating on His Word will be so much more than chores; I will have a desire for them that can never be satisfied and is always thirsting for more, the way it should be!
6 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
This is an intense psalm that highlights God coming into the temple worship service to correct and rebuke His people. The final part of this psalm is a sharp rebuke to the “wicked” among the worshippers in the temple. What stood out to me is the “wicked” in this psalm are not pagans who deny God with their words and actions. They are people who claim to be His, who are participating in the worship services in the temple, but who reject God’s Law in the way they live their lives outside the temple. This psalm is so frighteningly clear about how God feels about people who claim to be His, but live lives of disobedience to His Word. In today’s age that would refer to people who come to True North every week, they may even go to small groups, but when they are outside of church they live lives opposed to God’s Word. God is our judge and in verses 22 and 23 God says He will “rebuke, accuse, and tear to pieces” anyone who is wicked and hypocritical in how they live their lives. I was struck by how seriously I must take my worship of God. I pray that the Holy Spirit will help me to be consumed with love and obedience for God’s Word. I pray that the words that come out of my mouth professing faith will be backed up in every area of my life by how I live.
3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
God is omnipotent and, as Pastor Bobby said at beach night the other week, is neither all love or all justice. He can unleash his anger justly to all sinners, but his obedient servants he delivers. It’s important to remember to honor God in all I say and do. Also, since we don’t give traditional “offerings” in the modern day, it’s a good idea to offer what you can (and should) to God.
22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.”
Okay this is a pretty descriptive verse and should motivate us out of fear to serve God. I mean, lots of times I/we misjudge God’s power. We kinda think about it as a “fun fact” insetead of fearing it/ And right here where it says God will tear you to pieces if you don’t serve Him, should motivate us enough to serve.
6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness,
for God himself is judge.
It’s good to be so clearly reminded that God is the judge and that he can see past our outward rituals. This Mighty Judge sees our hearts.
These realities challenge me to examine myself. What is going on in my heart? Is there any sin that I am allowing to linger in there? And on the other side of that, is my heart longing for God like it should and desiring to be in God’s Word and to pray? Am I offering thanks to God as I should?
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
Great comment Beth!! Its so true…. there are so many people who just have a high for God on the weekends, but then during the week they are out living disobedient lives.
22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
God offers repentance and forgiveness to those who will take it. I love that although our God is a just God He is also a loving God. Thank you Jesus for the cross :)
Goodmorning . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 50 . . .
“1. The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.”
This verse clearly states that God manages the earth and teaches everthing where to go. Specifically from the rising of the sun to the time it sets. Meaning: 24/7 God is guiding the people and plants that He made where to go, how to act, and how to live. How amazing and clear is this verse? For the people who don’t believe in Him, this a great verse to show them that every single day and all the time, God is there guiding and putting His creation in place.

15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
Its such a great thought to know that we will be delivered and that God is on our side. He protects those who honor Him.
20 “You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother’s son.
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.”
I remember pastor Bobby quoting these verses when he was preaching on slander. Although we may not consider it a big deal to trash-talk someone else, even to just say something that’s bad about them, to God, it’s serious. In Romans 1, Paul is going off about mankind and how sinful, wicked, and corrupted we are. He mentions a lot of evil qualities, but among those he also says that “They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful” (Rom 1:29-30). Slanderers. That’s what the people who are going to hell are. I don’t want to be like that!
Though it may sometimes seem like God is forgetting about His promise to judge everyone and that evildoers are getting away with it, we should not be deceived. If we think that He’s just like us, we’re wrong. God does what He says He’ll do, and even though we may not be seeing that happen today, someday everyone *will* be judged according to what they’ve done. I need to keep that in mind and live accordingly.
beth and jenae
likee what you guys both saidd!
its sooo truee…
im sick pray i get better<3
22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue
This verse may seem kinda harsh, but is true. This entire psalm describes God’s personality and how much he hates sin. He hates sin so much that he will tear the unrighteous into pieces. WOW. That should be inspiring to do God’s work, out of fear. I think that this psalm really helps to understand God’s personality more and has helped me to fear the Lord. I am still continuing to pray that we all will fear the Lord and praise him with trembling hands.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 17,”You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.”
I like this verse because it tells me what I did before I became a CHRISTian. I used to hate reading the BIBLE and I would never be caught teaching it to others I just put on a mask and acted like I did and then as soon as I left the church I acted like any other kid swearing and cursing and disobeying GOD.

21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Beach night??? I think this might have been the second beach night’s message we had down there at salt creek…I’m pretty sure this is one of the verses that night!
I remember what Bobby said when we sin, we might think we are getting away with it. God is silent, God doesn’t always show His wrath. But when we stand before God when we give our account God says even though I was silent, I will accuse you to your face. that’s really intense!!! The application to this verse would be that I need to realize that I’m not getting away with anything, God knows me, God sees me, and I want and need to be blameless in God’s sight so that when I give me account to the Lord I will be less ashamed.
A great reference to this verse would be Hebrews 4:13…
23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.”
I like this verse because in my prayers, I need to remember to thank the Lord as well as asking for things and such. God feels honored by thanks and it is important to honor God, because he has the final say for heaven or for hell. We need to strive to please the Lord more than anyone else that we know or that is on this earth.
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face
I know this might not be the moral of the chapter but it really stuck out to me when I read it. God names all these things before this verse as wicked and deceitful, but they are things that even some christians are caught in the act of doing. We are suppose to be separated from the wicked and perverse people of the world, yet our daily lives will consist usually of more worldly things then godly things. I myself am no exception. I need to continually focus on God and make sure that God is the one who controls my life and everything I do I need to do for Him.
4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 “Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”
6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!! (thats 12 ben) I pray God comes quickly and judges the world with an Iron fist! praise be to god for his awesome power!
Very good points Beth and Jenae!!
6 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
Wow, a lot of the times i could call myself a hypocrite when i comes to these two verses! I can say that i used to only open my bible on sundays. Praise God that that has changed! But i can do better. What point is there to open my Bible on a Sunday and learn about God and how i can apply the sermon in my life, and then not open the Bible again the rest of the week? Its hypocritical! I have to make sure that i keep applying Bobby’s sermons to my life and i need to make sure i am digging deep into Gods word…DAILY and applying Gods word to my life…DAILY!
MARANATHA!!!
6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
God is so righteous, and even the heavens proclaim it! And He is also judge. These two facts about God means that as he is both righteous and judge, He must judge rightly. He can’t be an unjust judge, for He is a judge and His righteousness means that He is a righteous judge. And as we are all sinful, He must punish us for our sin. Yet through His love, He sent His Son to take our place. For those that do have salvation through Jesus Christ, they will still be judged for how they have lived their lives on earth. Not to be good enough to save themselves, for they are all still imperfect in themselves, but each will be held accountable for all he or she has done, both the good and the bad. With this in mind, I want to make the most of every opportunity I have to live for Christ. I don’t want to stand before God as we go through only bad that I have done. As a human that is sinful, there will be sin, but I want to stand before God with no regrets, that even though my glass of water wasn’t 100% pure water, I still kept it as clean as I could!
9 “I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens”
God has no need of our sacrifices to Him, He can do anything and has no needs. But I need to sacrifice because God requires it, not because God needs it, but because I need to obey God and do what He commands, it is a command to sacrifice our life to Him. God has no need for our sacrifices, but I have a need for them. If there was no ultimate sacrifice, I would be destined for Hell.
!!!MARANATHA!!!
9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
God doesn’t need me. He owns everything. What he wants from me is obedience. God doesn’t need my good works, especially if they are done with the wrong motivation. However, God loves it when I do good works because I’m being obedient and I’m doing it because I love God. He doesn’t need sacrifice; He demands obedience.
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
This is something that I need to be thinking about. God is coming back and He is going to judge the world. I need to remember that I will have to go face to face with the Lord. This makes me want to strive to live a holy life and tell others about the judgement. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets
God is more amazing than us thinking that He is more amazing then we can imagine. In matter of fact, He’s more amazing than that. I just want to praise Him forever (which I’ll do). God can do anything but bad things. He can’t make a mistake. When I read a verse like this I think about how dumb I am when I sin. Lord, let me think about your awesomeness at all times. Amen
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
I agree with Jeff, when I think about this verse I need to remeber that when im face to face with God, did i keep silent or spread the word of his judgement and tried to save people from it
16 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
This Psalm is really intensly clear. God IS reffering to the people in his church, just as Beth said, and he IS talking to those who claim to be of him. He knows that they do not honor him with their lives and that they hate his teachings. Even if they do not hate his teachings, he knows whn we do not live by them and when we go against him. The ‘wicked’ in this verse are his people who are living in the ways of the world, truly not God’s people at all. I pray that i will live an unhypocritical life and that i bring praise to God everyday in everything that i do. That i will take to heart the advice i give or have givien to others by the gospel and that i dont turn my back on the Lord’s teacings. God is a GREAT and MIGHTY God!!
14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
i like how this is saying that you can’t get into God’s favor just by physical sacrifices and actions alone, but God wants us to praise and thank Him continually. This is sometimes a common misconception among Christians that think going to church on Sunday and donating money to the poor will get you saved. In fact, God would rather have us pray to Him and put our trust in Jesus than do good deeds all day long without giving God the glory. I dont remember the reference, but another verse I like that says this says that we’re not saved on deeds alone. So, in the future I will make sure that I am giving the Lord the glory instead of just doing god deeds without praising God.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
EVERYTHING belongs to God. That includes me. So if he owns me, I am his slave. Do slaves disobey their master’s and do what benefits them? Of course not. This should be the same attitude I have for living for God. I need to live for him in 100% of what I do, because I am his property, his slave. He is the Kupios, and I am the Doulos (sp?). I think this is crucial to keep in mind, when I feel like I want to do something that won’t glorify the Lord.
22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
I think it’s pretty clear… God doesn’t like it very much when I “forget” to obey him… He HATES it. he says he will tear to pieces those who do so! Forgetting to read my bible, pray, etc, etc. Is essentially telling God that other things are more important than him. I really need to set my priorities straight if I find myself “not having enough time” for God.
Like others have commented, God doesn’t need us to do anything for Him. Even in the Old Testament, the sacrifices God commanded the Israelites to make were not something God needed. They were supposed to point to the ultimate sacrifical lamb- Christ. Even now, every good deed we do is a response to Christ’s love for us, not something that God needs us to do. He is all powerful, and we in no way deserve His love.
23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.”
God is so awesome!! When we sacrifice “thank offerings” to Him, it says we will be shown salvation, simply by praising Him with our hearts. He loves me so much, He sent His ONLY SON, think about it, ONLY, to die for me. A horrible sinner who deserves no more that eternity in hell. But he had compassion and love for me, and He is my God and will always do the right thing for me even if I cant see it. The very least I can do in return is praise Him continually!
PRAISE TO THE GOD OF MY SALVATION!!!!!!!!
“These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.”
One day we will all stand before God at Judgment Day and be judged. For the non-Believers, the Great White Throne Judgment, and for the Christian, the bema seat judgment. I want to live a holy life because I know I will have to face God at judgment and give an account for all my sins. To prepare for judgment I need to equip myself with the truth of God’s word and strive for holiness!
17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
This whole chapter had some harsh things in it, that may seem quite surprising to some people with a different view of God. God doesn’t just “understand” when we sin and he certainly cares when we sin. He doesn’t sit there with his arms open wide for anyone to come in. Verse 21 explains that clearly…“These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.” The verse I chose leads up to that. God gave us the Bible as instructions to help us live a godly life. If we arent in the Word constantly, how can we ever learn those intrustions and live by them? I am going to make sure that I am taking God’s Word seriously as somethingg to live by.
Great Psalm!
Summary:
God comes down from heaven to the temple worship and rebukes his people. God reminds Israel, the sacrificial offerings that He commanded are not because God needs their offerings, they are of symbolic of their love for God. He tells Israel to sacrifice thank offerings, remembering their purpose. Then God rebukes the wicked, which are portrayed as those who participate in the ritual practices, but altogether curse God through their lifestyles. God says tartly: “I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
‘Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue’”
From this I have learned that God is SERIOUS. A person who claims to be a Christian and yet lives contrary to God’s commands will be torn to pieces. Note to self: Don’t try to trick God; He knows.
Good Stuff!
wow I finally get the comp! Praise the Lord! :D
20 You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother’s son.
haha I read this yesterday bc I got all confused with which Psalm it is each day. XD but when I read this, I thought, “oh it’s the description of the wicked man, this is what a wicked person would do.” and then I thought…”Do I do this?” And I actually do. I am very wicked and I recognize my sin now Lord. Thank you for revealing my sin to me Father, now I repent of this because I know I do it a lot. Lord, stop my from ever doing it again and help me live a righteous life!
This psalm really gives us an understanding as to what God is really like. It is clear that he is more powerful than we can even imagine. He does not need us. Like it says, He owns every animal and everything on earth. We are useless in God’s eyes and since this is the case we need to be praising Him and giving Him glory every day. The way we live should be all for God, the ruler and judge. How can I please God? should be the first question we ask ourselves in the morning and the last question we ask ourselves. God is great!
Here in Psalm 50 we get a glimpse of God being judge:
We are so tempted to think that we are getting away with things. That because nothing happens right away it is forgotten and over with. But God is not going to forget one little thing we’ve done and is going to judge us for it:
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
We might forget what we’ve done and that God is going to judge us, but he won’t! Unfortunately, some people won’t either realize God is judge or even if they hear about it they won’t accept it. He says in verse 22 that they will be torn to pieces.
Like many of you have commented, knowing that God is a judge makes me want to evaluate my own life and be ready for the day I will stand before him.
Instead of casting God’s words behind me I want to always put them in front of me.
Instead of using my mouth for evil I want to use it for good.
Instead of joining the wicked I want to run with the righteous.
My goal is to hear God say: Well done, good and faithful slave!
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
To me this is just another reminder that God is always watching, anytime, any place, anywhere. Whether it’s just the slip of the tung or a bad joke. He’s right there beside me, marking it on His list. Then He tells the feeling guilt to show up in my stomach and I realize that I have sinned and that I need to repent because of what I did and stop it from happening again, (period). So that when the day that we’ve all been waiting for comes, MARANATHA!!!!! He will have allowed me to follow in His footsteps as best as I could. So that He could give me salvation and everlasting life.
These verses showed not only how big and powerful God is but also how small and powerless we are! Really, now that Christ became the ultimate sacrifice, we have nothing to offer God but our entire lives. Some of these verses were talking about the Israelites attitude when sacrificing to God, and that is something I can improve on. Sometimes, I show that my desires are better than God’s through some of my actions. I need to humble myself more and give God my everything! :D
5 “Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”
6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
7 “Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
GOD calls us every day to be separate and apart. We are his holy people, and he calls us to forsake the ways of the world and live for him. GOD is holy and righteous, and he calls us to follow after him only.
Legit comments Mike, Beth, and Jeff!
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
This chapter was a reminder for me that God looks at my heart and not just my actions. Like Mike said, it is easy to get in the “check off the box” mindset, to just do something to get it done. Instead of this mindset I want to have a pure heart and motives so that my acts of obedience to God would not be offensive to Him, but rather a sweet smelling sacrafice.
11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
This verse shows that god knows everything. God says “I know every bird in the mountains” showing that he has always known things that humanity still doesn’t know. It also shows how he is all powerful and owns everything. He says “for the world is mine, and all that is in it”.
17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
These verses reminds me of Jesus’ rebuke against the Pharisees who committed the same sins of hypocrisy that God is rebuking here. In Matthew 23:25 Jesus says, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.” On the outside they appeared righteous, but their hearts were motivated by selfish desires to be noticed by man. This attitude describes my life before I was saved. I wanted people to think I was such a good person than I focused all my time and attention to my outward appearance. I wasn’t motivated to be moral/obedient because of my love for the Lord, but because of my love of man. Although my motivations are different now that I am saved, I pray the Lord will continue to reveal the hypocrisy that is my own life. I pray that I will ALWAYS be obedient to God’s instructions and never cast his words aside.
Psalm 50:6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
Like PJ said, one day we are all going to be judged by God! We all deserve to not go to heaven because of our sins, and God is a just God. Many of you, and I have been saved from God’s wrath, through Jesus’ death on the cross. I need to be praising him for sending his son to save me! He is just and I deserve hell, but he let his ONE AND ONLY son take on everything I deserve!!!! That is soooo intense!!!! Thinking of how God has saved me, and you, it really makes me want to go tell others of how he saved me and how he can save them. I pray that God would give us courage and strength as we go back into the school year to be bold for Christ!!!
16 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
i need to make sure that what i say matches up with my actions. this could be on big or small things. i need to countinually be aware of my actions so i can make sure i wont be a hypocrite.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This psalm really hit home after being on vacation with non-Christian family for a week. Like Pastor Bobby preached earlier, God is both 100% loving and 100% judging. It can be pretty painful to be around non-Christians especially because they are living for different reasons–they often live for their own happiness and joy. 17 “You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you”. In terms of my family, they don’t want anything that will question their values–they want to live for themselves, they are #1. It feels even worse when you know what their future beholds-especially when they are your loved ones. 22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue: ” I just pray that God used Boyd and I this past week to spark some true interest in Him…
6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
Heavens sing in glory for God and praise Him for everything!!! God is the judge He sits on His throne and we give Him praise for everything he has done.
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
Unlike popular christian talk now a days God will not look over the sin of those who say they are christians but are not living godly lives. He watches everything that we do and he remembers it. And when the time is right he will respond. So do not think that you can get a way with faking your christian walk because there will come a day when God will rebuke you and punish you to your face. This is harsh but it is the truth. God takes sin seriously especially those who are “in” the church, and he will punish all wrong doing. So let us all examine our hearts that we may be sure that we are not saying one thing and living another way, but let us follow Christ in full obedience saying NO to sin.
wow that was a good psalm!!!!!
i liked in verses 1 – 4 how descriptive it was… like in verse 4 how it says ” He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that He may judge his people” If you think about that the throne of judgment.. WOW… and in verse 6 how it is saying how God is the judge…
God is the only one who can judge us!!!
6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
This verse reminds me that God is both 100% love and 100% just. And to not concentrate on how God is love but that he is just too.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it
God is creator of everything and everything in the world belongs to him.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
This kinda reminded me of worship, because just like with the real sacrifices God is not pleased when I just sing some songs with no thanksgiving in my heart. Honestly, that is probably offensive to God, because I am saying with my mouth stuff like I adore Him but am at the same time not giving a thought about Him. When I worship I need to make sure that I am actually thinking about God and having an attitude of praise and thanksgiving or else not sing at all so that I am not disrespecting God with empty words. But worship goes beyond just singing, and it’s probably just as offensive when I do something like say serving just to get it done without even thinking about God. I want to make sure that nothing I do is just to get a task done because I know I should do it but rather it is out of a thankful heart that wants to glorify God.
elloo!
16 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?—This verse really stood out to me! I love it! It reminds me how much we are not worthy to be citing God’s Word! We are all sinners and we continually do things that go against what God commands! As a christian I am supposed to live out God’s commands and that is what I am really going to be trying to do instead of preaching this or agreeing with everything from His word but never really taking into heart and apply it to my life! I am definitely not going to let Christians continue to get the rep for being hypocrites!
stoked for church! :D
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
We can be doing things not right and things that would not be pleasing to God and not get punished for them now by God and think that God is O.K. with what we are doing, but in reality God is going to eventually rebuke us and punish us right in our face with something big!! God will always recieve the glory for everything!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!
1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
These two verses really capture the power of God in my mind. God is perfect, and if He wills it, no days would continue. Just by speaking He has incomprehensible power. Next time I watch a sunrise or sunset I will be thinking about God, and how He is the one who is making it happen.
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue
…The words “tear you to pieces” send shivers down my spine. But honestly, we all deserve to be torn to pieces because of our sins. One day we will be face to face with God, creator of the universe. On that day I want to be sure that he says to me “Well done, good and faithful servent. Maranatha, I am ready!!!!!!
3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
These verses really show how much we should fear God. Reading verse three definitely makes me sure that I don’t want God mad at me, and His judgement is something that no one can escape. I don’t want to end up like one of the lukewarm christians described in the Bible.
11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
God is the creator of everything! Every beautiful flower, tree, mountain, sunset, is the work of God. How wonderful! In verse 11 he says I know every bird in the mountains. If God cares for the birds, how much more do you think he cares for you and I? We are his precious children! Let that motivate us to give thanks to him every morning for our salvation, health, homes, church, and everything else he has blessed us with.
19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.
It is so true that the mouths of the wicked are used for evil and we hear it out of their mouths every day. Still, Christians even can catch themselve at times using their mouth for evil. I even catch myself saying stupid and wicked things at times. I pray that I watch whatever comes out of my mouth is thought over in my head before I say it so that whatever I say may glorify the Lord.
16 But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
i like how this verse shows how incredibly holy God is. he questions y the wicked even recite his laws. his laws r so holy that we shouldnt even be able to speak them. we r slaves of a mighty God!
3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
I like this verse because it reminds me of the wrath of God, and that he is not just a lovey-dovey guy who will forgive and forget. I need to remember that every sin has consequences, and the Lord will inflict them if he chooses. I need to fear God more. This verse is an awesome reminder and helps me keep that image of him in my mind
Psalm 50
8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
The psalmist Asaph talks about two issues here with the people of Israel. God’s people were so focused on their sacrifices that they lost sight of who God was. He does not need their sacrifices because God is the creator of all and owns all living things. Our Lord does not need anything from us for His own benefit. There is nothing that we can give God that He doesn’t already own. Their sacrifices should have come from their heart not out of obligation. We need to evaluate our motives as to why we are doing the things that we do. Are we doing things for God because that’s what it says or are we thankfully sacrificing out of faith and reliance?
Isa 1:11 “The multitude of your sacrifices— what are they to me?” says the LORD. “I have more than enough of burnt offerings, f rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
Proverbs 15:8 The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.
21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
How intense is this… just like others have said…God knows what we have done…sin has consequences…this should be so scary for the unsaved because they may think hey I’m livin it up… but then one day boom…destruction…we also need to watch ourselves as Christians because God disciplines those he loves…I wana live in a way that is pleasing to God so that in the end I can say that I have fought the good fight…
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me
god has everything that there is to have, so what else could he possibly want?
our commitment to his word.
1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
You speak and things will happen and you now our every move so lead me to do your will.
3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
This is just another example about how God is not all “lovey dovey” and such like people seem to create in their heads. God is just, and will judge the world in all its evil. He has the power to create, yes, but he also has the power to destroy.
“The Lord giveth the Lord taketh away.”
