Jesus Appears to Seven Disciples
21:1 After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. 8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.
9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
Jesus and Peter
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”
Jesus and the Beloved Apostle
20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who had been reclining at table close to him and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!” 23 So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. (ESV)

25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
What a mind-blowing idea! Jesus did so many things that they couldn’t all be written down. We should realize that as much as we can learn about Jesus, there is still so much more about him to discover! Let’s seek to know Him more each day!
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
This chapter shows Peter’s reinstatement where Jesus asks Peter three times if he really loves Him. Perhaps He is doing this because Peter denied Him three times. I love it how Peter goes from a coward who denies the One he loves and esteems most in the world to a martyr who is willing to die for Christ. Jesus is clear that in order for Peter to prove his love for Him that he must “feed His sheep.” Jesus tells us the same thing, that if we love Him we will care for other in the body of Christ.
21When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”
After Jesus explains to Peter what kind of death he is going to lead, Peter asks about the fate of this other disciple (probably John himself). Jesus tells him not to worry about what His plan is for this disciple but rather to focus of following him. As Christians we may be tempted to get overly concerned or even jealous with God’s plan for other people or how He is using them. Our job is not to compare but rather to to follow Jesus.
15When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
This vers just shows us how much do we love Jesus. Are we feed his lambs and telling others about God.
25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
This verse really stuck out to me. Jesus did soo many things that not all of the them can be written down. That is so incredible. It shows how big of a God we truly have and how miraculous His son is!
(:
22Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.
I agree with Dan. We can’t be jealous about what others are used for in the body of Christ. We should be most concerned about following Jesus. We shouldn’t worry if we are serving God through becoming a pastor or if we are used by God to get donuts and coffee on the tables after the service, as long as we are following behind Jesus’ footsteps with our whole heart, strength, and mind. God has a plan for each of us to serve in the body of Christ.
25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
Whoa! Pastor Bobby was right when he said that this was insane! I didnt even know that this was in the bible too. I cant imagine how much stuff he couldve done.
25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
I really like this verse as well. Jesus is so amazing that it’s beyond words and beyond comprehension. I want to love Him as He loved us, but that may not even be possible until we are without sin with Him in Heaven. But we can deny ourselves and obey His commands, which include loving others no matter what, even if they don’t love us back, because that is what Christ did for us.
6He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
Another amazing miracle!!! how cool is that?!! one minute they cant even catch a fish, and the next they cant even haul in the net because it is so filled!
Great passage! i really enjoyed everyone’s comments on verse 25:D
15When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
If we love God then we are going to love other people, and if we love other people (lambs) then we are going to spread the Gospel and His Word. When the Lord came down, He made tons of disciples, and He wants us to do the same. He loved us so much that He died on the cross for us.
3″I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
IT seams as though Peter gave up hope. The savior he was relying on died and He didn’t understand what Jesus said by he’ll raise up the temple in three days. It kinda puts out a image of that Peter was taken out on FIshing(sin) by Christ and hes going back to it. Suffering from OTD jk but he was, he was falling back into his original pattern of “sin” which we need to be carefull of.
15When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
Great connection Kyle! it’s like a giant chain that Christ has provided for us to pull until the end where we find ourselves with Christ in Heaven. IF we love Him, then we are going to obey His commands which He’s told us many times to love one another and to evangelize and guide those who don’t know Him. We do take these passages sometimes for granted. If we keep pulling and working on it, we’ll someday be at the end of the chain and be with our Heavenly Father with all the treasures that we had earned along the way. How encouraging is that?! :D
25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
Wow, this is such an awesome thought! Jesus did so much during his time on earth and only a small portion of it has been written down. Our heavenly Father has willed the specific stories and lessons written about Jesus in his Word. We should not be neglecting this small portion that we have, but realize that we can learn so much through his Word. Let’s start really diving into the stories that have been recorded and see how much we can learn about our Savior!
21When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”
I’m going to have to agree with what Dan and Spencer said. Sometimes, we just need to butt out of other people’s situations and focus on our own walk with God. Not that accountability is bad, but that we care for others in a way that is not too nosy! We need to work on our relationship with God, as well as helping others. :)
Anna, that is so true! Our savior truely is great!
16Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
If we really love God than we will take care of the Church and encourage fellow believers. If we are not serving in the church or loving and caring for other Christians than that might be a sign that we take Christ’s gift for granted and do not love Him as much as we should.
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
I agree with everyone who commented on these verses. No matter what we have done, God can still use us in amazing ways. And in this verse, He commands us to show our love for Him by caring for His sheep, the other believers in Christ.
I couldnt agree with you more Beth! In verse 17 when it says feed my sheep we need to apply that to our lives so we can help and encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ. But if we are going to help them then we need to be in the word daily equipping ourselves with God’s teaching and knowing hsi commands so that when we help others He is the speaking and helping them through our mouths!
25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
How amazing is this! I cant seem to wrap my head around this! Jesus did soooooo much in his time that all of it could not be written down, that just makes me wanna know everything about him and his time here on this earth!!
22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”
I love individuality that Christ brings to our personal relationship with Him. It doesn’t matter whether our brothers and sisters in Christ live longer or shorter lives here on earth. What truly matters is that we are focused first and foremost on our personal, intimate relationship with the Father and how He has appointed us our allotted time here on earth to glorify His name. It’s amazing to realize that God has marked us out uniquely just by how long we live on this earth for Him!!!!
16.)Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
I am totally tracking with Hunter on this verse, we really do need to express our love for Christ through our everyday actions, words, and even thoughts.
6He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
7Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.
I love how Jesus comes to them again in the same way he did when he first met them. I also love how quickly Simon Peter jumped in to get to him as fast as possible. That is how we need to live our life. We need to go strait to him and let nothing slow us down.
Verse 25 made me think a lot. It is awesome that God gave us just what we needed through scripture to follow him. Jesus did many things throughout his life and God chose to put in his word the things he did for his glory. cool!
22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”
This verse is really good, and made me think. Jesus is saying that we aren’t to worry about what will happen to others or what the Lord has in store for them because it doesn’t matter to us. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. Jesus is the ultimate example and the ultimate bar or level: perfection.
wow! this chapter was amazing! i was in total awe of how Jesus had the disciples catch sooo many fish by just throwing a net into a water. it just gives a very small example of the power of Christ and how he can do anything, for he is the Son of God. the miracles that he performs are to glorify the Father, and he is in control. Jesus is all powerful, and he has the power to save, for he is the way and the truth and the life.
The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
I love how Peter brings up the fact that Jesus, God, is all knowing and that he can see into our hearts through any ruse we put up.
25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
Mmmmmmmm! It is so awesome how many miraculous things that Christ has done! This verse is so great and intense! I agree with Anna, it really shows how big and great our God is!
