Zion, the City of Our God
A Song. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.
48:1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God!
His holy mountain, 2 beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.
3 Within her citadels God
has made himself known as a fortress.
4 For behold, the kings assembled;
they came on together.
5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
they were in panic; they took to flight.
6 Trembling took hold of them there,
anguish as of a woman in labor.
7 By the east wind you shattered
the ships of Tarshish.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in the city of our God,
which God will establish forever. Selah
9 We have thought on your steadfast love, O God,
in the midst of your temple.
10 As your name, O God,
so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11 Let Mount Zion be glad!
Let the daughters of Judah rejoice
because of your judgments!
12 Walk about Zion, go around her,
number her towers,
13 consider well her ramparts,
go through her citadels,
that you may tell the next generation
14 that this is God,
our God forever and ever.
He will guide us forever. (ESV)

1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
This verse pretty much sums it up! God is amazing and deserves ALL our praises. He is the only one who is holy, and there is no righteous being. This verse makes me picture falling facedown when I first meet Jesus Christ! Because of what Christ did for me, I only want to please and serve him with everything! There are so many things that I need to be praising the Lord for MORE! He is so awesome and and indescribable!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
The last part of this verse is what sticks out to me! That God will be our guide even to the end! God has a plan for my life, and I know I need to just pray and seek what God’s will for me is! He does everything for a reason and according to his purpose. I need to trust that God knows what he is doing, because he is God… simple as that! I have no reason to NOT trust in him! He is my Lord and Savior, and I want to glorify him in how I live!
8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever
Although this is talking about Jerusalem, I look forward to the day when I can say this about the New Jerusalem!
Ps 48:14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Ya Brook! God is faithful and never fails to fulfill His promises. And we just need to rightly fear Him, repent and trust in Him alone then seek His will for us every day.
3 God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.
While Zion is an impressive citadel, the psalmist is highlighting the truth that God alone is its defense against attack. This verse reminds me of Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength an ever present help in trouble.” No matter what earthly protection we have against attack it is God alone who is our ultimate protector. It is my prayer that I rely on no earthly thing for my security, but that I rely on God alone. Any protection I have pales in comparison to my mighty, omnipotent God. Thank You, God, for being my protector, both physically and spiritually.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God has ALWAYS been there and ALWAYS will be. He gave strength to His son when He was dying on the cross, and He will give us strength when we are being persecuted. Trust in the LORD for all things and He will be there to lift you and me up in our time of need. God is an amazing God, and I am sooo glad I found Him!
***GOD IS GOOD!!!!!***
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God is always there and he is always our God who we are supposed to praise and honor. i really need to work on honoring his desires before mine.
Goodmorning everybody . . .
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL . . . YAAAAAAA! I pray that I would represent God at my school all the time. =)
I read . . .
Psalm 48 . . .
“9. Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.”
Because church is our temple, where we worship, listen to, and get fed God’s word, we are to meditate on His never ending love. He will still continue to love us even though we are sinful humans.
“10. Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.”
This verse is saying, similar to God’s name, His praise reaches to the end of the earth. God’s praise will never end and continues for eternity. Along with God’s name. Everyone will soon come to know God’s name and know it’s power and meaning. It’s might and the fact that He was sent by his Father to die on the cross for all of our sins.

9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
God’s love truly is unfailing. During this time of blessing on Israel, it was easy to see. But even in years to come, when Jerusalem lay in waste and all its inhabitants were scattered, God was still loving. he was just, and so had to judge them, but He never stopped loving His people or providing for them. His love is definitely an attribute worth meditating on. In love, He sent Jesus Christ to die for us, because His justice demanded punishment for our sin. That fact alone, along with everything else He has done, should give me ample reason to meditate on and praise God for His love every single day.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This verse is cool because of God’s awesome promise in it! He is going to be there for us till the day we die. Not everyone can promise that. Most people, at one point or another, will let us down in our lives, but God never will because everything he does to us is according to his good and perfect will.
1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
I know I say this out of respect for the things God has done and shown us in the Bible, but I can’t wait to be able to say this because I saw His glory. One day, when I go to heaven, I’m going to see God’s glory and I’ll just fall on my face and worship Him. Now I just have to obey God and tell others about Him while I’m waiting.
3 God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.
Totally echoing beth on this one! I love this verse because its shows the psalmists faith and reliance on God. There was a strong fortress built upon mount zion, yet this psalm is saying that God is the fortress for her. The Israelites knew that only God could and would protect them from their enemies. The strongest fortress would never hold if God was not on their side!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This verse is so encouraging! The powerful God described in this Psalm who sent His son, my savior, is going to be my God and my guide forever! I love that our God is the only one who gives us this promise. Everything else you could possibly love in this world is temporary; but God is eternal and will guide my life till the end! No matter what is going on in my life, I need to remember that He is there with me guiding me until my physical death, and will be there with me forever as I worship Him in heaven. Maranatha!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
So many promises in the Bible! In this verse it says that God will guide us to the end! I think the great application of this point is to trust in the promise that if God is going to be with me to the very end and guide, I need to tell myself to persevere until my last breath.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
I love this verse too, it is so encouraging and such a great reminder of the truth that when we are God’s He is our stronghold and the one who brings us safely home into the kingdom! Oh how exciting it will be when I get to see my Maker face to face, but until then I will pursue Him and trust Him to guide through life and eventually guide me home!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God is the Everlasting God! He will never leave us or forsake us. It is so comforting to know that He will always be there for us, through the good times and through the bad. What a blessing it is to be able to serve the Lord for all of eternity!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Once we have repented of our sins and put our faith in Christ, God will never leave us. There is no way to “lose” your salvation if you are truely comitted from the start. God will always protect us in times of trouble. We will however have to endure trials as apart of being Christians. Do not think that God is making our day horrible when your having a bad day. If your having a bad day it is most likely because you’ve been ignoring God. Instead of blaming God for anything bad, you should pray about it and read your bible so you may be able to repel Satan’s attacks on your life.
14 “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.”
This is an amazing promise, no other “gods” will last forever, they will either rot or burn. God will always be there and guide us forever, I can put my trust in God and know He will be there forever. It is really comforting to know that God will always be there through any time of our life and after our life. Everything in this world is temporary, but God will last forever. I need to work on focusing on eternal things and persevere till my last breathe to serve God here.
!!!MARANATHA!!!
ELLO… I read
I like verse 5,”they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.”
I like this verse because it shows what everyone should respect GOD as. If you are on GOD’s side then you will fear HIM as the LORD knowing everything HE can do. and if you are against HIM then you should fear HIM because HE has the power to do anything HE wants to you AKA HELL.
CYA
1 “Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.”
Although most of this Psalm seems to be about God’s city, this verse really shone out to me. If anyone is worthy of any praise, even of worship, it is the LORD. He is perfect, holy, good… He made us, the Earth, the whole universe! And He loves us, even though He is perfectly righteous and just. How amazing is that? It’s incredible, even if you don’t take into account the fact that we sinned against Him first. If you do take that into account, His love is all the more awesome. He is the king, the ruler of it all, and He deserves our worship. I should be praising Him every day!
14 “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.”
I like this verse becasue it really shows our God’s never ending faithfulness. He will point us in the correct direction in our lives all the way untill we die and go meet our true father in heaven. THe first half is good too becasue God isn’t just our God today, he will be forever and ever.
12 Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers,
13 consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.
In college I got to spend a semester in Israel, living not far from Jerusalem. This is a verse we would think about a lot as we would go into the city each week. That was cool. But the cooler thing is how God’s praise is not limited to that one location.
10 Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.
God’s praise reaches to the ends of the earth, and California is very much the ends of the earth from Jerusalem! I want to remember the awesome things I got to learn about God when I was in Israel today and remember that they are true not matter where I am.
This God is MY God forever and ever; he will be MY guide even to the end!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
How great this really is! The Sons of Korah are filled with joy because God will be their God for ever and ever, all the way till the end. They have no reason to fear or to be afraid, for God is faithful always; He will not fail, not even once, to the very end of the ages. It is so great and comforting for me to know that no matter what I am going through, God will continue to be my God and He will never fail me, and this will last forever. Even if I am deserted by everyone else around me and am left with no one there for me, God is still my God and He will be my guide till the end. And as my guide, that means He gives me guidance. I need to seek His guidance in His written Word, the Bible, for it is His book written for us. I need to not put confidence in myself or other things of this world to act as my guides, but instead follow solely after the LORD and live by His instruction. And He will be my God and my guide for ever and ever, without fail!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
GOD is forever, so we no that we can trust him no matter what. He will never end, so his promises will endure forever, his statutes will endure, he will endure. Who better to put all our faith in than the never ending, all-powerful, GOD?
only 20 comments at noon?? C’mon people let’s post!! :D
For the first time, no specific verse stood out to me. I just loved this psalm because it was telling the people to rejoice in all that God had given in them. And he had given them alot. But it goes on to say how they should remember what He had done, take record of it, and pass it down through the generations so they would never forget what God had done for them. I want to have this mindset, to remember what God has done for me and take hope in that knowing that He always provides. PRAISE TO GOD ALMIGHTY!!!!!!!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This is so true. God WILL be with us forever and ever! Alot of times, we may feel lost. Like God isnt there or like he has completely abandoned us in his time of need. Even though we might feel like that at times, it isnt true. God is always there! He is our shelter, our rock. He WILL guide us to the very end, but we have to trust in him to do so first.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
I love it how God will be my God for ever and ever. I don’t need to fear because God is there to guide me to the end.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Ben I like how you capitalized MY God and MY guide, because not only is God so amazingly good, but we can experience it personally because we have a relationship with Him. It’s amazing how faithful God is; He promises to be with us for ever and ever. Why He would even want to be in a relationship with me I don’t know, because I had nothing to offer and was in fact even an enemy of His. Yet still He saved me and then promises to be with me forever. Lord, thank you so much for your unlimited love to me your enemy and please help me to give you all my praise and let everyone know how great you are.
Mike, awsome comment!
8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Selah
Even though the city of Jerusalem was a beautifull city and a strong military fortress the sons of Korah realized that this was not the source of her strength, but that God was the source of her strength. Like Jerusalem, I know that every good thing about me comes from God and not myself; I am only a pitfull sinner that is competely supported by God’s grace! This encourages me to be thankfull and give God the glory for every thing in my life.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
I really liked what Chris and Ben said about this verse, how we have a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe. We’re not like them religions that have to go to a priest simply to ask for forgiveness. We can talk to God directly, confess our sins, and ask for things, and praise him-all from our own lips. But this verse talks about God being our guide till the end. I really like the analogy in my Bible notes that says that as Christians, this verse is kinda like a road map. We need a person to guide us through, but we also need a set of directions to be our guide. The Holy Spirit is the one that lives inside us that guides us through, and we use and read the Bible to learn how to live.
This chapter definitely has a lot to say about Jerusalem, or Zion as it is referred to here, the city of God. If anyone of you have a chance to go on the CBC Israel trip next summer I would really encourage you to do that! It’s awesome to be (or have been to) this city and then read a chapter like this!
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
The reason the psalmists are so excited about this city is this is where the temple is, in other words, this is where God’s presence rests among his people, where his glory can best be experienced. Now God is definitely with us everywhere and we can always worship him. Many of you have left good comments about this! But I do think that there are places in my mind that I associate with God’s presence. For example, New Mexico is now one because we went there for Revival. And True North is one because that’s where we worship every week. But the main point is these are places where I have really thought about who God is, where I like the psalmist “meditate on your unfailing love.”
I am looking forward to being back at True North this weekend and worshiping with you all. I am hoping that I will grow in knowing God more than every before this year! Hope to see you there!
Another great passage! God is our protecter, our fortress, and our strength! And He is worthy of all praise!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This shows the eternality of God. Our God is not a temporal fixture in the universe—one day here and the next day gone. God was before the beginning and is after the end for forever and ever. This also shows that a Christian’s relationship with God is not a temporary commitment, but a lifelong relationship. I continually forget the shortness of my life here on earth, and the far greater longevity of eternity with God. Because of that I choose to live for here and now: having fun with my friends who aren’t Christians instead of sharing the gospel with them also choosing to focus on fun instead of fixing my eyes on Christ. I need to remember that my citizenship is not here on earth but in the New Jerusalem forever. And I look forward to it.
13 consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.
This verse shows a great triumph over God’s destruction of a city by their praise and glorification of God. The second part of this verse really stood out to me… that you may tell of them to the next generation. I’m pretty sure it’s been a lot more than that by now!! God is still receiving praise and glory to this day, and that is what we were made for right?! This generation needs to be doing that! It reminds me of Ben Blakey’s Back To School sermon!! I need to pray more for my generation of young people to be saved at my school so that God may receive the glory and praise!! :D
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
God’s love is so awesome! I can’t even begin to understand it. That the God of the universe would choose sinful man to be made right with himself, that He would sacrifice His Son so that we could be reconciled with Himself! I don’t get it. It doesn’t make sense. I need to meditate more on God’s love and then love others with a similar type of love.
4 When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together,
5 they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.
I love this because it talks about how God protects us and how we can have no better defender than the Lord. Anyone who tries to tear us down will either tremble in fear of the Lord, or be defeated by His awesome power. When someone tries to go against us or our God, God will not let them defeat us if we pray to Him and ask Him for protection. Whenever I feel persecuted in life or when someone is trying to make me compromise, I will remember that God is the safest refuge in my life.
1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
God is holy and we need to praise him for who he is, the holy creator of the entire earth
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God will be our God forever!!! He will never leave us or forsake us as it says in Joshua 1:5…Hod will always lead us in the direction that is right and true and will never lead us astray!!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
We go to church every weekend and praise god for his never ending love. God’s love is never ending, he loves everyone no matter what happens.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This verse reminds me of revival 09 and how Pastor Mike said one way to know if you’re a Christian or not is if you’re still praising Christ from the time you become a Christian until you die. And you’re in the battle your whole life. God isn’t guiding us some of our life but all of our life and will continuously change our lives to follow after Him.
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
Its so amazing to know that Gods love never fails. When I think of failure I think of disappointment so you could say Gods love never disappoints. I know I have been disappointed by many people in my life, but what a great truth and encouragement to know that I will never be disappointed by Gods love. Gods love is perfect and it is that love that I need to model my life after.
AMEN!!! great pslam. God i amazing and his love & mercy is unfailing. He never lets us down. 14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
THe Lord is our God FOREVER! He will be our guide to the end!!!! He is perfect and higher than anything ever created. We should fear God, not man! I need to act more like God and try to be more like Him each and every day. He is good!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God will always be there for us. For me, this is a great reassurance and reminder. We can always count on Him to provide for us. He will never forsake us. I need to remind myself of this when I am ever feeling down or alone, i can look back on this verse and pray with confidence. The Lord is so amazing and he constantly deserves my praise. He never forsakes us, and I should never stop praising Him. He deserves praise 24/7. I find that this verse also helps remind me of this.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Our God will never leave us, never fail, never stop being Himself. He is perfect and holy and always will be. He will be my guide all the way until the end of my life. I can’t wait to say at the end of my life what Paul says in 2 Timothy 4, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” But what would be even better was if God came before I got the chance to say that! Come, Oh Lord, MARANATHA!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This verse , I have feeling this has already been said, is great, its AWESOME. I am looking forward to spending eternity with God forever and ever in the New Jerusalem. To be co-heirs with Christ, meaning we are going to be ruling with Christ. It blow my mind just trying to think about. Think of greatest place or experience you have ever had and just realize that Heaven will be a billion times better by far. MARANANTHA!! In the meantime, I will be reading a book by Randy Alcorn called “Heaven”. Christians, If you want to get excited about your future home read this book. I highly recommend it.
5 they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.
God is so powerful. People tend to think about how loving God is and forget that we need to fear him, and it causes many people to think that God will just allow them to live their lives however they want and just be able to forgive them even though they haven’t committed their lives to him. This verse shows how afraid others were of God and I think that my fear of him needs to be closer to the paralyzing fear that is described in this verse.
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
GOD LOVES US AND IT’S ALL OVER THE BIBLE!
But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever (Psalm 52:8).
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness (Psalm 86:15).
Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever (Psalm 136:26).
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
Wow this chapter really shows how powerful a place of worship is. In this case it talks about Jerusalem, Zion. But this applies to us too. Our place of worship is Compass Bible Church. This is the place that we serve and can always worship God.
Here, Jerusalem sounds like an amazing place. It is God’s city and it would be awesome to see it. But think of how much greater the New Jerusalem is going to be!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God is so great- he will always be with me and never forsake me as long as I keep my trust in him and live in him. The fact that he will be my God for ever and ever.. wow.. if you really think about that.. it’s just amazing! My brain can’t even comprehend eternity.. but I can know that being with God forever is going to be the greatest thing I will ever experience!
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
“We meditate”…two words I dont often put into practice. Yet it is something that is so important in every persons spiritual growth. What do we meditate on? The answer is right there. God’s unfailing love. The ultimate display of that love is manifested in Jesus Christ. The more we understand God’s love for us, the more we can love those around us. Meditation not only effects us, but also our whole community. How GREAT is Gods love!!!
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
Meditating is more than just reading. Reading is good too, but in order to approach any understanding of something as complex as God’s love I need to go further than just reading about it. I think God’s love is one of those things that I will always need to contemplate more and more. I should start today!
heellooo!
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.—I love this verse! It makes me feel confident that God will always be there in the worst times and the best times! He will be there to guide me through everything and I need to trust in His plan. God will always be God and He’ll be the same person, that will never leave me or change his love for me but that means I must do His will to bring him glory! I will be praying that I will put all of my trust in His plan!!
sorry this post kind of changed from one subject another and back haha
Praying for a Revival at orange county schools!! :D
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
it is impossible for me to think about the concept of forever, but it is awesome to think about God guiding us for that long! then i started thinking about the opposite of forever and how i need to be living in the maranatha mindset every second of every day preparing myself for an eternity of being with God. that is awesome!
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
Hmm, my life would definitely be transformed if I continually mediated on God’s unfailing love. Do I regularly think about the love God has shown me through salvation and love he continues to show me? In my own selfishness, I fail to constantly remember the grace I was given and love God showed me when he forgave my sins. I need to be always meditating on God’s unfailing love!
Psalm 48:1 “Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.”
This verse is awesome :) I need to always remember that God is great and he is WORTHY of my praise!!! He is holy and i need to NEVER forget that!! I need to praise him for being holy and mighty, becaus he is completely worthy :)
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
The Lord’s love is unfailing. How awesome is that? Nobody knows real love until they’ve experienced the love of Christ… the love that freed us from the shackles of sin. His love never deserts us, never falters, never turns to hatred or malice though we sin against him continuously. It’s greatly encouraging to me that no matter the mistakes I make, the wrong paths I take, the Lord’s love is UNFAILING.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
God is always going to reign forever and ever. He is always there for us in good times and bad times standing right next to us. Through the Bible he guides us and teaches us through it. God is our God and is our guide to the very end and eternity.
Great post, Jasmine!!!!
For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
This is the difference between God and false gods. God is permanent, false gods are temporary…or dont even exist! Beside the false gods that other religions worship, there are idols. And i know we all know a lot about idols..but there is a big contrast between an idol and GOD. God is permanent! An idol will only give me temporary satisfaction that mostly results in unhappiness when it doesnt go the way i want. MMHMMM, ide much rather worship GOD who is everlasting and is loving and merciful and who brings me eternal happiness/joy than a stupid idol that enters my life and goes before God and doesnt satisfy me the way God does.
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
I will climb a mt. for God any day even if I die for Him.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
The Lord is the same always. Always has been, is currently, and will always be soverign and holy.
