Psalm 41

O Lord, Be Gracious to Me

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

41:1 Blessed is the one who considers the poor!
In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him;
the Lord protects him and keeps him alive;
he is called blessed in the land;
you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.
The Lord sustains him on his sickbed;
in his illness you restore him to full health.

As for me, I said, “O Lord, be gracious to me;
heal me, for I have sinned against you!”
My enemies say of me in malice,
“When will he die, and his name perish?”
And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words,
while his heart gathers iniquity;
when he goes out, he tells it abroad.
All who hate me whisper together about me;
they imagine the worst for me.

They say, “A deadly thing is poured out on him;
he will not rise again from where he lies.”
Even my close friend in whom I trusted,
who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.
10 But you, O Lord, be gracious to me,
and raise me up, that I may repay them!

11 By this I know that you delight in me:
my enemy will not shout in triumph over me.
12 But you have upheld me because of my integrity,
and set me in your presence forever.

13 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting!

Amen and Amen. (ESV)

How awesome was main service?!?!?! True North takeover was awesome! I hope you all saw the looks of peoples faces like I did, after service it was awesome! I heard people talking about how the service was “perfect” and how they liked worship and the music we played! It was awesome display that the high school ministry at True North is for real, there is something going on in the Compass room every sunday morning and saturday night! Young people can live for Jesus Christ!

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

I’m just thinking of times when I might had a close friend, who I trusted and they let me down. It just shows how we can’t trust in people sometimes because we as people are corrupt. There is one being however that we can trust and that is not corrupt and that is the Lord, who never forsakes us and He never changes! I think the application of this verse is to trust in the Lord more, than rather trusting in man!

12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.

“you set me in your presence forever” that verse rings in my head! It reminds me of today’s sermon about how when we are going to be rised up in the air to be with the Lord who we are going to that point on be in the presence of the Lord forever! How awesome is that going to be. I haven’t recently been thinking before today being in the presence of the Lord forever! I need to remember that quiet often!

  3. Ryan Cox says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Who knows who this was in David’s life, but the experience is one to which we can all relate. Even Christ experienced this with disciples who left Him when His teaching grew too intense; &, of course, there are the 12 disciples who bailed on Him in Gethsemane; & don’t forget Judas & Peter, too, who took their abandonement one step further. Despite people who turn on us in our lives, we can simply remember that God is good, ESPECIALLY when His people endure unjust suffering. He’s the dad who watches someone hurt one of His kids…He may take a while to get up off the couch, but when He does, He’s going to rectify the situation. Our attitude needs to be one that doesn’t take revenge into our own hands, but patiently waits for God’s perfect timing & judgment.

  4. Dave Hosford, praying for proper balance between God's grace and judgment says:

Ps 41:1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

Just as God shows love and care for us weak people, we should reflect that grace and mercy toward others that are not as strong as we are. The second command is clearly in view here: love others as we desire to be loved and look for the blessing from God here on earth and in heaven for doing so! Maranatha!!!

  5. Beth Lauder says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

This verse reminded me of the truth that Pastor Ben pointed out at Revival ’09…God is good all the time, all the time God is good. David is writing this psalm at a time of intense suffering in his life. He is seriously ill and his enemies are gloating over the prospect of his death. David’s enemies are not just random people, they are people who once sat at his table…those who were honored, trusted friends. Despite all this hardship David writes verse 13 where he praises the LORD! This is a great example to me to always praise God and give Him the adoration and glory He deserves, even if my circumstances tempt me to focus on myself or my trial and not on Him. Lord, please help me to have the attitude of David. Draw me to You during tough times and help my life to be all about giving You praise and adoration!

  6. Dan Lauder says:

4 I said, “O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

You have to be impressed with David’s honesty before God. Like all of us David blew it from time to time and sinned. Here is an example of him being honest and admitting he was wrong, not making excuses, but owning up to what he had done. He realizes that ultimately the offense was against God, and begs for mercy. Confession is the first step towards healing and restoring our relationship with God. I need to follow this example and be quick to confess my sin, not make excuses.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

  7. Chelseaaa says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Everyone will disappoint you. No human is perfect and they will make mistakes. only God will never fail you as a Christian.

  8. j. watkins says:

    poor David..

this psalm kindof highlights God’s love to those that love Him back. We’ve got David here who is sick (v.4:he believes sin caused it), and a bunch of people hoping that it kills him.
David all out pleads to god for mercy, and from what we can see here, he has achieved it. (11) “I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. “

  9. Zach V says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

I always praise the LORD when something good happens to me but when something bad happens until recently. on the missions trip we learned the basic outline of the entire Bible and after we went through Job I learned that we should praise God all the time because He is always good to us. In this verse in Psalms, David is praising the LORD and I am going to do the same in all circumstances.

  10. 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Ryan I liked what you said about the disciples and Judas and Peter. I always am reminded about this when I am let down by Christian people, or when I let Christian people down, or anyone down…that even Jesus had Judas and Peter. If my confidence and hope and full trust is in some person it is going to be utterly lost at some point, my hope, stronghold and refuge must be in the Lord alone because only He will NEVER let me down, and only He will be faithful to the end!

  11. Mike says:

2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.

This verse made me stop and remember that God knows all the desires and motivations of our hearts, even those we try to keep secret. What really stood out to me about that, though, is that this also applies to our attitude about serving. We can do the “right” things with the wrong attitude, and people can be deceived by our actions, but the Lord knows our heart and will not be pleased with our service unless we are joyfully bringing glory to Him. This verse was an awesome reminder to me that in everything I do, I need to work as a joyful slave of the Lord Jesus Christ!

  12. Bryce Nilsson says:

4 I said, “O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

This is how I should come to the Lord asking for forgivness! David asks God to have mercy on him and heal him from his sins. During the main service this weekend, Pastor Bobby talked about the rapture and when Jesus comes back. He said that you would not want to be sinning at the time Jesus comes back! What kind of Christian sleeps in sin while he waits for his master? I know that every chance I get some free time, I now think about if Jesus came back right now, would he be pleased.? This has helped me avoid sinful choices. Thank God for being just, forgiving, and loving!
    Praise God!!!!!!
    Come O Lord!

  13. Brooke Miller says:

4 I said, “O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

Amen to that Dan! It is important to confess your sins to God. I know that this is how I need to come to God for forgiveness, and have an open and teachable heart towards His word and what he is telling me to do! During hardships, and just in everything, I need to rely on the Lord and have a willingness to do the application and to really meditate on the truth! It is so refreshing, and builds me up so much when I read God’s word!

  14. Tanner says:

    ELLO… I read

I like verse 7,”All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,”

I like verse 7,”All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,” I like this verse because it tells of what our situations may be like while we are here. We may have many enemies who wish us death or wish evil to happen to us but even though the whole world may be turned against us GOD won’t be as long as we have repented and have faith in HIM.

  15. Natalieeeeeeee says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

I think that everyone can relate to this, we all have people.. friends in our lives that eventually turn against us and against Christ. But God is so good! I really really love what Ryan Cox said about God being the dad who is seeing his kids getting hurt..

“He may take a while to get up off the couch, but when He does, He’s going to rectify the situation. Our attitude needs to be one that doesn’t take revenge into our own hands, but patiently waits for God’s perfect timing & judgment.”

    mmmmmmmmm..

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

  16. Billy Morris says:

4 I said, “O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

Here, David is crying out to the Lord to forgive him of his sins, because he feels guilty and he know that he has not pleased the Lord. I need to follow Davids example, and when I know I have sinned and displeased the Lord, actually do something about it. I need to cry out for his forgiveness and admit my sin to him and ask him to forgive me.

  17. Boyd Jorden says:

This is a timely psalm for me as I’ve been sick the last couple of days. It’s encouraging to hear David maintain such strong faith in God’s goodness even when he’s at such a low point in his health. It’s easy to praise God’s love and provision when everything is going well in our lives–but it can be much more challenging when we are in the midst of struggles. But I agree with Beth (and, of course, Ben) that though our health or human relationships might change God’s goodness does not. Like David (and as Zach points out, Job) I want to always trust God and maintain my integrity, no matter my circumstances. I’m grateful I have David’s psalm and verses like Philippians 4:4-7 to encourage me to “Rejoice in the Lord always.”

  18. Elise says:

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

Since nobody has commented on this, I shall :)
Its so important to get out of your comfort zone sometimes and ‘have regard’ for someone in need. I looked up the exact definition of regard: ” to look upon or think of with a particular feeling”. It doesn’t mean walking up to someone you don’t know and talking to them because you feel like you are obligated to. It means having concern for someone who is weak and encouraging them through Christ. I think this relates to the rest of the passage because David focuses on the vileness of his enemies and the goodness of the Lord. Those who are in the Lord will not seek to create enemies, they will do just the opposite- they will, because of Christ’s love for them, show love to other people. And tying this in to Pastor Bobby’s awesome sermon from yesterday: what better way to encourage someone who is weak then reminding them that Christ is returning SOON! Maranatha!!

  19. hunter 2010 says:

Vanessa, Mike, Kyle, and Ryan your comments really encouarged me!

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

    This verse is deffenitely true!

11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.

Verse 12 reminds me of Bobby’s sermon this weekend. I can’t wait for the day when we will physicaly be in the presence of God forever, It will be the best day of our lives! I am encouarged by both these verses to obey God in everything He says so that when I see Jesus, face to face, He will say to me “well done good and faithfull slave.”

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

  20. Jackson Dahl says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Wow, this verse is so important. David loved God so much that even his closest friend turned against him and wished bad on him.. This makes me realize that I need to be living for God in such a way that I will be persecuted for him. If I’m not being persecuted, then am I really living all for Christ? I think that I should find joy in that my friends make fun of me for my faith, because then I can know that I am really living all for him, with no compromise!

Come on guys, keep the posts coming!!! We’re not doing so well lately!

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!

  21. ~Elizabeth Reeves~ says:

7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,
8 “A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies.”

Wow, this sounds harsh! When we talk against someone, it may not seem bad or sinful, but later on when I think about what I may have said, it is definatly not a good thing. Especially when David says “all my enemies whisper together against me..” that really stood out because to think that his enemies spoke against him, when today friends speak against friends. And I do admit, I have been guilty of this. Now when I look at it, it is just so wrong to speak against a person who you call your friend. And like Bobby said in his sermon yesterday, do you want Christ to be catching his follower doing something he doesn’t want you to do when he comes back?? That would not be good! So even if I am friends with this person or not, I will try my absolute best not to talk badly about them.

  22. Eric Walker says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

The road of Christianity can be hard, but in the end it is totally worth it. As Christians, we are going to loose friends and be persecuted because of our faith. I know for me at least, I have lost a few friends who have made fun of me because I am a Christian. But in the end, no matter how hard our lives may be, no matter how many friends we may loose, it is totally worth it. God will reign supreme and punish those who refused him. God will be king forever and we will one day get to see him. HOW AWESOME IS THATTT!!! I cant wait until the day that I get to see Jesus and get to talk with him face to face. I pray that we all have the maranatha mindset and that we wake up every day wondering, “is this the day that the Lord will return.”

    MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Dominic S says:

8 “A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies.”

Many people who dont believe in God think that Christians are “deceived by lies” and are dumb for thinking that the Bible is true. They persecute us and make fun of us and say that we wouldnt be so tortured if we would just forget Christianity. However, the Lord tells us that we need to be persecuted for our faith or we arent living for Christ.

10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.
11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.

We will be persecuted, but God promises us that if we truly believe in His grace, then He will not let us fail in our tasks. It says in 1 Corinthians 10:13, one of the verses from Revival, that God will not let temptations and the actions of others to overwhelm us. So, if I find myself persecuted for my faith, I shouldnt compromise or deny my faith, but instead pray for my enemies and ask God for protection.

  24. jeff Modugno 2010 says:

3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.
This is such an encouraging verse. It is so cool the my Lord will restore and sustain me on my sickbed. God will protect me and he will do his part I just need to do my part and serve him.

  25. Michelle [slave for Christ] 2010 says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

I need to be sure that all of my friends are Christians and that i surround myself with friends who really know the Lord and live for Him! But i myself need to be a good friend towards others too. I need to make sure that i am being an encouragment to others and a light in this dark world.
This verse also reminds me of my walk with Christ. God is my father…and though it referrs to friendship in this verse, i need to be sure that i dont “life my heel against” Christ. I need to be sure that i am fully comitted to living for Christ and i need to be an obedient child as my walk goes on. I need to be sure that i dont turn against Christ in situations or hold back on his greatness…but be a good example of His child and live up to please Him daily.

    MARANATHA!

  26. kelly causky says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

This chapter really demonstrates God’s faithfulness. We have friends on earth whom we trust; we call them “best friends.” But really, the only thing we can trust in is God. He is he only one who is 100% faithful. The Lord will never forsake us. That is an amazing thought. We need to stop putting so much trust and faith in the people of this world and start putting more trust in God our Savior.

  27. Nathan Ortiz 2010 says:

4 I said, “O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

I need to be like David and be honest with God and repent. We all fall short of the glory of God and only through Him is the way to eternal life. I need to have an open heart and receive all of Gods commands in the word with joy and happiness

  28. Callie says:

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

Just like Jesus cared for the weak and healed those who were in trouble, we need to show compassion to the weak. Most of the time we think of the weak such as widows and orphans, but many times there are people who are weak around us and are in need of our love and kindness. I need to be looking out for these people around me and reaching out to them.

  29. ۞۞Ŧŗɇɤϕŗ ђɵśᵮɵŗȡ ۞۞ says:

this chapter is talking about how God does not turn his back on those who trust in him and seek him with all their hearts, so we need to not turn our back on him

  30. Meisha Preston says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

David had a rough life. In this Psalm he is crying out to the Lord. Even his close friend has turned against him! But David always ends with praise. No matter how bad it is he turns to the Lord and praises his name. I don’t do that. When I have a bad day or things aren’t going my way my first thought is not to praise the Lord. But it should be! This is something I need to apply to my life.

  31. 12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.

I agree with Hunter that this reminds me of the Maranatha Mindset.

If you missed the sermon or want to catch it again you can watch it here: http://www.compasschurch.org/sermons/pastor-bobby-blakey1/video

I am very excited about being in God’s presence and until then I want to be a man of integrity (high moral character/honesty). Let’s always be ready for our Lord to return!

    Maranatha!

  32. ✿tara eddo✿ says:

Psalm 41:9 “Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.”

All of our earthly friends WILL at one point turn against me, so I need to be sure that I surround myself with good Christian friends because “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecc 4:12) Do NOT put your faith in earthly things, because they WILL turn against you; however, God will NEVER lift His heel against you. That Jesus suffered for me and endured the most brutal of torture, I will accept Him into my heart and will try my hardest NOT to “lift up my heel against him.” If we remain faithful to God, we will forever rest beneath the shadow of His wings!

    !!!!!MARANATHA!!!!!

  33. 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

Amen! God is so awesome! I love how David keeps praising the Lord through all his difficult times- even when his friends betray him and his enemies are after Him, He is still giving thanks to God! I want to follow His example.

  34. Jasmine Douglas is back =) says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

Beth, I totally agree with you on this one. No matter what we go through, it’s so important to not lose faith. Rejoice in the Lord always, for he is with us no matter what. Let’s make sure to praise him on the sunny days and also the cloudy days.

  35. Brennan says:

11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.

this verse is a great reminder that if God is pleased with us then we will not be conquered or overcome by our enemies, If we are doing good in our spiritual walk then we will be blessed and no triumphed over unless it is for a reason

  36. Spencer Camp says:

    Summary:

David is hemmed in by his enemies on all sides. They persecute him and get away with evil. They even want David to die. But David has faith that the Lord will deliver him and will not allow the strong to trample the weak.

I noticed that David trusts God because he knows his unfailing character. He has witnessed God’s goodness, taken note, and trusts in it for the future. Lord, help me look back to your amazing love poured out on the the cross and trust that in all the days of the future you are working for those who love you in Christ Jesus. Praise God for his unfailing love, it will continue forever!

  37. Matt Lawler says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

    10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me;

Even when the people we trust most in this world betray us, Jesus will not. This is a very comforting thing to remember when we’re feeling down.

  38. Allie Moorefield(: says:

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.
Blessed is the Lord who shows care for the weak. The Lord delievers Him in times of trouble. I need to trust that God will always be there for me, no matter what. In good times or bad times, God is always right by my side! WHen someone close to us betrays or stabs you in the back, Jesus will never!! And overall, we hurt Jesus more than we hurt anyone else! We sin right in front of God everyday. But Gods love and mercy is unfailing, so the person we need to go to when we make a mistake and sin, is GOD!

  39. Matt Crichton ((2010)) says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

Now this is an amazing verse. Even though David is sick, he still praises God and trusts Him to heal him. This is something we should be doing. It is easy to praise God when things are going well, but when things get rough, our focus should be on the glory of God. Encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ who are struggling. If someone you know is going through a had time, make sure that you take them time to help them. And most of all, stay focus on our Lord and continue to hope for his return. MARANATHA!!!!

  40. Max says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

This is a really simple verse, but it’s so cool! I love how David says that God is to be praised not just for “everlasting”, but for “everlasting to everlasting.” Just saying forever once wasn’t enough. That’s just crazy to think about. I mean, the concept of forever is pretty hard to grasp, and now to think about forever and even more forever. Wow it’s confusing! But that just shows even more how awesome God is! We can’t even comprehend Him fully. He deserves to be praised forever and even more, just like David said!

  41. Rebekah Foreman says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

Praise the Lord FOREVER!! Make it everylasting I will praise Him and worship Him forever.

  42. Melissa Cox says:

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

I want to be a person who has regard for the weak. Thanks for looking up the word Elise! You made a good point…what better way to show regard for someone than to share the gospel with them or encourage them in their sanctification (if they’re saved). It’s human nature to want to gravitate toward people who are bold, strong, interesting, smart, or dynamic. As God’s regenerated people, we should be drawn to the weak…Jesus spent most of His time ministering to the “weak” and we’re supposed to be following Him!

  43. Tristan says:

Poor David always seems to be struggling with others–in this psalm with his enemies and his friend whom he “has shared bread”. Yet, no matter how deep his troubles, he always praises God and has faith in Him. In other words, David’s most cherished and trusted relationship is with God. I need to have the same attitude, to place my complete trust and faith into God, regardless of the situation.

Furthermore, I need to be more honest with myself and God regarding my sins and failures–much like David who openly confesses his sins. 4 I said, “O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

Have a great and relaxing vacation Pastor Bobby!

  44. Lauren Goudgeeee says:

    yoo!
5 My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die and his name perish?”—This is the kind of thing I want my enemies to say about me because of the way I am living my life for Christ! I want to be so on fire for Christ that everyone will notice a change and my relationship with Christ will grow stronger! I pray that I can strive to live a Godly life and that the enemies that are against me because of my faith will notice my life I am living and that I can witness them to about the truth!

soo excited for beach night!! but bummed its the last one hope to see you there!! :)

  45. Kelsey says:

12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.

I like this verse becuase it demonstrates that God can not tolerate sin. The verse doesn’t say in my sin you set me in your presence forever, no. It says in integrity. We need to stay upright in the Lord’s commandments. This is what the Lord commands and if we truly love and fear the Lord we will carry out his law.

  46. Sarah G.! says:

12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.

David still looks forward to being in heaven with God during times of persecution and guilt from sin. Nothing can distract him from his devotion to God!! Reminds me of what Ben Blakey once said that to live is Christ!! Christ be the center of our lives!! I pray that I may have the same God centered focus that David had!! :D

  47. Matt Whyte says:

11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.

David is telling the lord that despite the riducule of his belief he stuck by you because the Lords way is the only way.

  48. vsunshine says:

I loved this chapter of Psalms because David wrote about God’s loving and protective character. God’s love for those of us who are compassionate towards others is also mentioned. What a great chapter to read whenever I feel “down” because it reveals the loving and tender character of God.

  49. Kyle Shackleford says:

10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.

This psalm really helped me remember that living the Christian life is not always the popular thing to do. It’s can be hard in high school trying to dedicate your life to Christ when some people, maybe even your closest friends, are tearing you down about it. In these situations, I need to remember 1 Corinthians 15:33, “do not be misled: bad company corrupts good character”. No matter how many people may be bringing me down about my faith, I need to realize the Lord is always with me! I also need to surround myself among other brothers and sisters of the faith so that I can spiritually grow myself and stay encouraged to live my life for God!

  50. This whole Psalm seemed to talk about two things. The first couple verses were about a man who cares for the weak and poor, a true servant. This Psalm talks about how the Lord will deliver him and keep him from danger, which we know does not always happen. Great, godly missionaries who devote their lives to the Lord have died at young ages. But those verses lead into talking about one’s enemies, and how much they hate him. The one verse I was a little confused on was verse 10, talking about repaying your enemies, which I thought God commands us not to do. “Do not take revenge…that is the Lord’s business.”I think the verse goes something like that. So that confused me. But for some reason, the closing verse stood out to me today.

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

Everlasting. This verse stood out to me today for some strange reason. I realized I need to come to God with more humilty now, knowing how great and how powerful he is. He deserves more of my praise, actually all of it, and I deserve none of it. He did it. Not me. So the rest of this week I am going to meditate on God’s power.

  51. Laura Johnson says:

    V.13

I like how this psalm ends with this verse because throughout the Psalms David has his struggles and good times but he continuously praises God.

  52. Wesley Wong says:

the two things i got out of reading this chapter:

    1. care for the weak as Jesus cared for us (vs.1)
    2. Jesus will never leave us as human beings can (vs.9)

  53. Sara L. says:

2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.

Sometimes I look around and it seems that people are getting away with things that they are doing to persecute me or another Christian. In those times I should remember this verse…God is not ignoring those people and letting them succeed in their agendas even if it may look like He is. I am so blessed to have such a loving God who keeps His promises and is so merciful though I am unworthy!

  54. Natalie Cannavo says:

6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad. 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying, 8 “A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies.” 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

It’s for sure that David is being persecuted for his faith! And it is obvious that he has been let down by a close friend that he trusted.

10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.

But it is also obvious that he trusted the LORD in all circumstances. It reminds me of this verse: “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.” (Psalms 27:3). David was confident in the LORD’s power to save him. He is a great example of faith in the LORD in every situation!

  55. Mady says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

    10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me;

i love these two verses! here on earth, we cant always rely on people because they are going to let us down. we all have a sinful nature. but God will NEVER let us down! he is always there for us!!!!! i need to rely more on God and not on people, or myself.

  56. Jonny.harder says:

I loved this chapter of Psalms because David wrote how God is a loving and protective character. God’s love for those of us who are compassionate towards others is also mentioned and it shows that God is great and amazing for drowning us with love even though we sin and dont deserve it. Great scripture.

  57. Katie Slusher says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

This verse talks about man’s imperfections in contrast to our perfect God. How blessed am I to serve the God who will never let me down! As I think about his perfect plan, I’m convicted that too often I worry rather than completely trust. I’m praising God tonight for his dependability and pray that I will trust Him in everything!

  58. Jenae Naeeee (= says:

9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

This verse is kinda scary to me because its kinda saying that really the only person i can trust is God because even my closest friends will stab me in the back. Scary stufffff

  59. Ben Blakey says:

1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

I think an I idea that goes along with this verse is that of giving to those who can’t give back. Showing regard for the weak is true generosity because it doesn’t expect anything in return. This challenged me. Who do I pursue? Who do I show care for? Those who will give me something in return? Or those who are “weak” and can’t?

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

I thought it was cool how the Psalm ended like this, especially since it’s the end of Book One of the Psalms. After all that has been said so far, the bottom line is that God should be praised forever and ever.

ALL GLORY, HONOR, POWER IS YOURS, FOREVER, AMEN!
    MARANATHA!

  60. Dan Blankenship says:

    Psalm 41

Even amidst his illness and suffering David is comforted by the blessings of God. His enemies were not been able to overtake him even during his weakened state because of the protection of the Lord. Our Heavenly Father loves to rise up the weak and sick. We should have the same mindset as imitators of Christ who always attended to the weak and sick. In fact we who are Christians were all once weak, sick and near death because of our separation from our Lord and Savior.

Matt 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matt 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Matt 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Matt 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Matt 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Matt 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Matt 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matt 5:10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matt 5:11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

TRUE NORTH TAKEOVER was SICK IT’S SICK
    Awesome Job Everyone!!!!!

  61. Evan McKee on his iPod touch says:

13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

I love to read verses like this because they always remind me of God’s creation and how amazing it is, but I think I always get carried off on that and I would like to praise him for his perfect plan and how no matter what is going on he is in control. It is awesome to know that no matter how good or how bad your life is going, God always knows what is going on and has everything under control.
