What Is the Measure of My Days?
To the choirmaster: to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
39:1 I said, “I will guard my ways,
that I may not sin with my tongue;
I will guard my mouth with a muzzle,
so long as the wicked are in my presence.”
2 I was mute and silent;
I held my peace to no avail,
and my distress grew worse.
3 My heart became hot within me.
As I mused, the fire burned;
then I spoke with my tongue:
4 “O Lord, make me know my end
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting I am!
5 Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths,
and my lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah
6 Surely a man goes about as a shadow!
Surely for nothing they are in turmoil;
man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
7 “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in you.
8 Deliver me from all my transgressions.
Do not make me the scorn of the fool!
9 I am mute; I do not open my mouth,
for it is you who have done it.
10 Remove your stroke from me;
I am spent by the hostility of your hand.
11 When you discipline a man
with rebukes for sin,
you consume like a moth what is dear to him;
surely all mankind is a mere breath! Selah
12 “Hear my prayer, O Lord,
and give ear to my cry;
hold not your peace at my tears!
For I am a sojourner with you,
a guest, like all my fathers.
13 Look away from me, that I may smile again,
before I depart and am no more!” (ESV)

First to post, haha YEAH! Having an early & busy morning so I’ll try to post later. Hopefully I’ll read soon though. BYE S.O.T.D.!

Ps 39:7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
When we have tough times (or good times!) we need to look to our hope: Christ Jesus! And check out this compact help for the times:
Ps 119:50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.
AMEN! I see this in the eyes of Theresa Bovee outside the SICU room praying for her husband Tracy. This is the way to live, real hope! An informed hope about my life and the lives of others that have repented and are assured of heaven with Jesus because of His atoning sacrifice on the cross!
4 “Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. 5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath.
David has the right mindset about his life on earth….it is fleeting and certain to end. This is a truth that we must acknowledge and embrace. We are not promised 100 years of life, every day we get is a gift and it could be our last. Since life is but a “handbreath” we must live that way! Everyday we must be sure that we are living like it is our last…being obedient to all God has called us to do that day, sharing the gospel with those around us who are lost. We are not entitled to anything on this earth, not a long life, not health, wealth or happiness. We must live life like the words to “Hosanna”…”Everything I am for Your kingdom’s cause as I walk from earth into eternity.” Lord, please help me today to be aware of the fact that my time on earth is fleeting. Help me to be looking for opportunities to share the gospel with the lost and to live out each day like it is my last.
4 “Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.
Sometimes it is easy to forget that our days are numbered. If I knew I was going to die in 1 year, I wonder how I would live my life differently? Would I make an extra effort to share my faith, love the people around me, confess my sins and obediently follow Christ’s commands? Of course! However, I might not even have a year left, maybe today will be my last day. Having the perspective that my days are numbered motivates me to focus on the things that matter and not the temporary things that so often consume my mind.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
One thing that we can experience even more than David is a hope for life after death. David prophesied about the resurrection of Christ in Psalm 16:8-11…but we know the whole story…we know how he came as a man, lived a perfect life, died for our sin and then rose again after three days…this is the gospel!
If we have put our hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ then we can know we will be resurrected just like him. We will live even after we die. In fact, we can have hope that the rapture will happen and we will go straight to being in Jesus’ presence without even having to go through death! This is what we are going to talk about at church this weekend…I hope you won’t miss it! It has been so encouraging for me to consider the hope I have to be with Jesus forever. This brings more urgency and passion to my life each and every day!
True North…let’s takeover the main service tonight and tomorrow…get there early…sit in the front…let’s worship God with all of our hearts and learn from his Word how he is coming to take us home to be with him! See you there at 5 tonight!
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
I agree with Beth—this life is not long and we need to live it calling out to God. Living everyday as if it might our last. That would be radical living! Knowing that the boat is going down and storing up treasures in heaven. Lord I pray that I have this same attitude and realize my how short my life is so that instead I may work for rewards in heaven.
2 But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased.
Not willfully falling into sin is a very good thing. But as David found out, it often isn’t enough. We cannot cruise through life while blending in with the crowd; we need to be bold. James 4:17 states that “Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins”. Evangelism and rebuking fellow Christians in sin are two areas in which many people feel uncomfortable, and so remain silent. I need to stand out and be bold, fearing God rather than man and doing His will even when it makes the situation awkward or uncomfortable.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
This is so true.. If I put my trust in anything other than God, I will fail miserably. He is the only person who can give me eternal life. I need to put all my hope and trust in the Lord, and that will reap incredible benefits. God has a plan for me that will be better than anything I can think up. And ultimately if my hope is in God I get to be with him forever.
yello!
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.—Even when I am down and not having a good day, I remember that God is always there for me and He loves me and has had mercy on me so I need to remember what God has done for me and I need to show that I know God loves me even when I’m having a bad day. This also reminds me of when I see people I love totally disobeying God in their life and I know they are going to hell and it just makes me sad, escpecially my parents. And like it says, “My hope is in you.” I need to constantly have my faith in God that he has a plan and I need to live by that and not worry. I am so thankful that God chose me and I am ready to step up my relationship with God and live with NO COMPOMISE!!!
so bummed im missing True North Takeover! Hope a lot of you guys show up I’ll be praying for it!!(:
GO FRESHMAN GIRLS!!!! :D
The book of Ecclesiastes is about the vanity of life, the fact that life here on earth is temporary and fleeting and passing quickly and therefore David is asking the Lord for the correct perspective. When he thinks about the vanity of life he says :
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath.
God made us, He numbers our days and because in comparison with eternity the days we have here are on earth are but a moment my perspective needs to always be on fulfilling the mission God has for us (aka sharing the Gospel and glorifying Him in all things) and keeping my hope steadfast in Him. I need that MARANATHA mindset daily!!
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
David has made it pretty clear here that we really don’t know when our life will end. In the scheme of things, we are only here for a short period of time, or a “breath”.
It’s pointless to go around trying to accomplish things in this world, as we’re only here for a short breath of time.
Instead, we should put our hope in Jesus Christ.

I know that my life is numbered! God knows the exact time and place where he wants to take me to Heaven. David asks God in verse 4 to show him his life’s end and the number of days until then. We should all live like every day was our last. I know for me, that If I see someone that hasn’t heard about the Gospel, and I don’t make the effort to talk to that person, and then I die, Who will tell them? I need to proclaim the Truth of God every chance I get, because no one knows if the breath they take right now will be their last… Live with No Compromise!!!! Dedication to God’s word 100%
#####Praise God for his Awesomeness#####
Mike, legit comment bro!
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
This verse made me wonder why I care about my life so much. All the earthly physical stuff in life that I care about really looses it glimmer and value when I look at it from the correct perspective…the eternal/spiritaul perspective! Because my life is so short I want to use the little time I have left for God (1Cor.10:31); livng for anyone else or anything else would just be a waste of time.
ELLO… I read
I like verse 1,”I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
I like this verse because it talks about talking in the presence of the wicked. When I hang out with non CHRISTian friends I usually don’t talk about GOD but only about things that don’t relate to GOD and about things of this world. What I need to do is to get the courage to speak up and talk to my nonCHRISTian friends about GOD even if they won’t like me any more because its better to do GOD’s work then to be accepted by others.

5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
These verses stood out to me because it reminded me of how silly it is to care so much about our earthly posessions. As Hunter said, our physical possessions pale in comparison to the one true thing we should strive for in this life: eternal life with Him. When Judgment Day comes, it will not matter how much money we have, or how “cool” we are in school and how much stuff we have. What will matter is whether we lived for ourselves, or for Christ in the life of NO COMPROMISE!!
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
I love this verse because of the five words, “My hope is in you.” God is the best person to put our hope in for He never lets us down. Even when it seems as though He’s silent, I can know He has a plan that my sinful mind cannot even comprehend. I don’t know what it is, and I probably never will, I just need to trust blindly in Him knowing that He is bigger than all of it and will get me through. God, help me to live a life of no compromise and to trust in you even when you seem silent Lord, help me to do these things in your name. AMEN
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
This psalm was so convicting for me! Nearly everything I devote my time to is geared toward getting something that is so temporary. I go to school so that I can have a job so that I can get money to someday support a family- which isn’t bad to do, but its just amazing to me how much time I spend on it when all that effort won’t matter after I die. We have such a short time here on Earth and it needs to be spent hoping in, praising, and trusting God! Our purpose in this life is to bring Him glory, and I want to do that in everything I do- including school and work! I definitely am going to try and do that as much as I possibly can this fall as the new school year begins.
PS: Great job Freshman Girls! FRESHMAN GIRLS FOREVER!!
11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth— each man is but a breath. Selah
The Lord is just and punishes the sin of all. But he is also love. The delicate balance of His character is not easy to understand.
Well first I wanna say that I’m so sad I won’t be there this weekend for church but I’ll be praying that it goes well!
Okay so I really like verse 12 because of the part where he says he is a stranger and that’s what I like to think of myself as in this world because I don’t belong here and u can’t wait to get to heaven. Also in this verse when he is just crying out to God it reminds me of the word Hosanna. He is asking God to save him from this world that he is a stranger in and now when I sing that song in going to think of this verse and sing out for God to come back! MARANATHA! (=
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
Life is really short compared to eternity, it’s like a breath. So many people who are Non-Christians choose this life on earth, instead of losing this life and gaining the next because they want to please themselves now, rather than being pacient and wait. I think this verse is very helpful with my walk with Christ because it makes me think how short this life is and just wants me want to give my life to Christ even more.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
Our God is so great and we are so small. Our entire life-span, which seems like a super long time to us, is like a breath to Him. We cant even comprehend that! He is not held by time, He is outside of time. Thats a pretty cool thought!
11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth— each man is but a breath. Selah
12 “Hear my prayer, O LORD, listen to my cry for help; be not deaf to my weeping. For I dwell with you as an alien, a stranger, as all my fathers were.
In this world all of us are like breath. Hear all of our prayer’s O Lord we pray to you make me brave tell everyone in the world about you God bacause we are alien’s, and stranger’s.
Like everyone else mentioned, our life is short. Well it is long to us if we live it for 90 years, but its definatley different from how time will be in Heaven. We dont know our last day here on earth, which is why, like Spencer said, we need to live each day like it could be our last…and i dont mean that like how the world means it. I dont mean it in the perspective of: party hardy and live it up! I mean, dude, our days are numbered, tell everyone..EVERYONE about Jesus Christ while we still have life here. I need to remember that and act upon it!Starting today i will act upon it!Especially today when i go to harvest crusade and i see the big group of people protesting against God and against Greg Lauri’s preaching. May God work through me tonight and let His glory flow from my mouth as i stand up for my faith. My days are numbered, so i need to be sure to get as much sharing of the gospel done before im in eternity with my Father!
MARANATHA
Goodmorning :) everyone pleeeeeeeeease pray for me, Im sick :(. I was starting to feel a lot better, but now I’m getting worse.
Psalm 39:5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
Wow! Life is so short! It is “but a breath” in God’s eyes, compared to all eternity. I need to remember this, and live my life for Christ at the fullest. Any of us could die today, tomorrow, or in 60 years! Christ could come back in 5 minutes! When I stand before God on judgement day, I want him to see that I was not messing around, I want him to see that I knew he was coming and I made use of my life to serve and honor Him!!!!
soooo soooo sad im missing True North takeover. Have fun this weekend :)
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
Our time here on earth does not last very long. As written in this verse, that length of a life here is nothing before God; it has no comparison to eternity. This life is so fleeting, but a mere handbreadth, and the length of but one blink of an eye. Yet so many people get so attached to this world and the life that they have here. They think that the best is right here and right now and the one who is doing the greatest is the one who has everything material wise. Yet this is so foolish and stupid! Though they may seem to have everything right now, when this life is over they will be left with nothing good but eternity in hell. I need to not get attached to this world but instead keep a Kingdom Eyes mindset that my home is in heaven. And I need to live my life for Christ with everything I have because I don’t have a lot of time. I need to make the most of every opportunity in my life and live like today is the last day!!
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
What a true verse! If we put our hope in anything besides the Lord we will crumble. Through Christ we get eternal life. Our hope and trust should be in him alone.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
Wow. To think that all of our years, are nothing and man’s life is just a breath to God is just awesome! Sometimes I can think that 80 years or so is a long time, but when I compare it to God’s life that lasts forever, it’s just so amazing! And that really does give me a reminder on how powerful, and everlasting God is. We are just His creations that only last for a short time, and shows how unpowerful we are compared to God. So now if I think about myself or how awesome something is, I will think about God, and how He is the mastermind behind it all, and my years are nothing before Him!
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
8 Save me from all my transgressions; do not make me the scorn of fools.
Only the LORD can save you entirely from sin. If you put your trust in Him and fully devote yourself to doing His will, He will protect you. It is YOUR job though, to make sure that you are staying in His word. He will not do everything for you.
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
I love this verse because it tells me that aour lives mean nothing what we stock up as our possesions, we wont know what happens to them, Also that we always run around making things more important then God.
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
in the context of this psalm, it seems that David is trying hard not to sin with his mouth by cursing and complaining to God about how He has not brought retribution on the wicked who oppress him. as Christians we are called to speak against unrighteousness and to promote the truth that God has revealed in His Word.
but we must also be careful not to complain to God about the wicked, because we need to be patient with the unsaved and forgive as Christ forgave us. while we dont be totally tolerant to wickedness, we need to remember that we were once wicked and dead in sin, and by God’s grace alone we were freed from its chains.
11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth— each man is but a breath. Selah
This verse automatically gives me a much larger picture of God and who he is. Our God disciplines and rebukes, removes the importance of earthly possessions and gives us life. To God be the glory!! Here is an example of how just God is and how loving he is. He disciplines us for our sin because he loves the son that lives in us!! I’m going to praise God for who he is and glorify the him more today!! :D
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
Our life on earth is a short time. We are here to spread the gospel and strive to glorify God, not to store up worldly possessions. No matter how much money you have, when you die, you will have none of that. Worldly riches are nothing compared to God’s eternal rewards. It is much more important to be obeying God and sharing the gospel to others and get eternal rewards than to have a lot of money. God is and should always be our first love and priority in our lives. I pray that God will remain my first love and that I wont let myself get caught up in the world but stay focused on the glory of God.
Hey everyone! I like verse 6:
“Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.”
Our lives on this earth are very short. We only get one life here and we need to dedicate it to the LORD. The things I own here are not important. I need to focus on storing up eternal treasures not worldly ones. I need to live every single day like it is my last. My worldly possessions are worthless but my eternal rewards will last forever. My life needs to be dedicated to serving the LORD in all that I do.
See you all tomorrow!!! I cannot wait!
1 ‘I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
2 But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased.’
Here David seems to have trouble with controlling what comes out of his mouth, and thus he resolves not to speak at all when he’s with wicked men. However, even though he does not (at first) open his mouth at all, he realizes that just ceasing to speak is not really the right thing, because he could be saying things that are good.
Though he’s talking about his tongue here, the same can be said of pretty much any other sin. I sort of have trouble with this. Sometimes I will say no to sin, but then I will just go do something where, though that action isn’t necessarily not sin in and of itself, I could be doing something better (something that I know God would want me to do). Jesus didn’t just say “deny yourself,” he said “deny yourself and follow me.” There are two parts: saying no to sin and yes to the Lord. That’s what my life should be like!
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
This verse really stood out to me. There are many kids on my soccer team who curse all the time and I am tempted to do the same. This verse will help me keep my mouth pure and set a good example for my team. I need to continue to be careful, especialy around non-christians to be a light. My prayer today is that I will be bold and stand up and say something instead of sitting in the background, and remaning silent.
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
Life on earth is SO short. As is said in another verse, we don’t know how many days we have left. I want to make it my goal to live each day like its my last, to glorify God continually. I don’t want my life to be over and then regret not serving God more each day. I am preparing constantly for his return! MARANATHA!
Hello . . .
I read . . .
Psalm 39 . . .
“5. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah”
“6. Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.”
Kristina – “(commenting on verse 5) God has made my days short here on earth until I come and see my Master. Our lives are just a breath and mean nothing.”
Ariana – ” (commenting on verse 6) I LOVE THESE VERSES!!!!!! I love how David is saying the way we sinful humans live is just to please ourselves. I pray that instead I would live STRONGLY FOR GOD & NO ONE ELSE. The verses are also saying that the rich people in this world who are weathly shouldn’t keep that wealth for themselves. God has blessed everyone by dying on the cross and forgiving all their sins. We shouldn’t take advantage of it by splurging in our own pleasures.

P.S. God bless, can’t wait to see everybody at True North Takeover tommorow. CHOW! =) I JUST READ THE WORD OF GOD WITH MY BFF! Great chapter btw.
4 “Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.
My life I wonder if it would be different if I knew trhe exact day I was going to die. This just means time is short make the most out of it by getting out there and sharing Gods Word and we have limited time so lets get out and share Gods Word.
11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth— each man is but a breath. Selah
Yes! Similar to yesterdays psalm, God absolutely hates sin. Also, we need to be adding up our treasure in heaven and not on earth, becasue everything that we have on this earth will go away, and the only thing that matters is our relationship with the lord.
4 “Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
These verses go along well with Bobby’s sermon this weekend on “The Maranatha Mindset.” If we really want to long to see Christ, we need to realize that this life is short and fleeting but being with Christ is eternal.
I need to be active in reminding myself about this. It’s too easy to get caught up in whatever we are doing and forget how short and fleeting this life is.
MARANTHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you”
This is such a good reminder that my only hope for salvation is through Jesus Christ. Without Him, I am nothing but a “wicked” sinner who lives for only handbreath.
To comment on Elise’s post, it’s so true how much time and effort we put into our life here on earth–work, house, family, and things–and how little we spend on the Lord–who is eternity. The world has nothing lasting to offer, unlike our God.
Our life here is so temporary and I definitely need to focus more on the Lord and living for Him.
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
This verse reminds me that we try so hard to have “success” but everything earthly we strive for is in vain. This is not even our real home, heaven is, so I need to be preparing myself for heavenly things not earthly things. God is really what matters and everything related to Him, nothing on this earth even comes remotely close to anything related to God. I need to store up my treasures on heaven, not on earth because if I am prepared that is where I will be spending eternity.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath.
Its crazy to think about how Amazing the Lord is. He is everlasting, which is so beyond us… our whole lives, are just a moment in his eyes… And whats even better is that we are His children to live forever with Him! Maranatha!!
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
The tongue is our most powerful thing! We need to control it. Its like putting a muzzle on our mouths as long as the wicked are in our presence, so we are not tempted. We, especially me need to watch what i say and what comes out of my mouth!
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
When we are going through tough times, we need to ask God what we look for and let Him know that our hope is in Him!
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
This is a really good example to follow for me. I think that living as a southern californian high schooler does, we become so immune to so many sins, both that we are commiting and that others, even the people close to us are commiting. I know that this has become true about somethings for me. I have grown so accustomed to having those little sins in my life, such as complaining, that i barely even think about it anymore. Lately though, I have been becoming more aware of my sins, mostly because I am making a conscious effort and striving to glorify God in every aspect of my life, but also becuase I am in God’s Word everyday. That really helps me. Especially verses like this. They are great instruction and motivation.
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
Wow. Humans are not really much of anything at all. We are a simple breath to God. We treat our lives like they are the most important things ever, without realizing that heaven is going to be MUCH better. Earthly living is stupid compared to what heaven is going to be like. We bustle about in vain and greedily store up wealth that won’t even last. As Christians, we should keep away from that selfish lifestyle and keep our hope in the Lord as we anxiously await his return. I want to see God! Maranatha!
11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth— each man is but a breath. Selah
That the lord God loves us so much that he disciplines us for all the sin we do, no sin is left without punishment.

12 “Hear my prayer, O LORD, listen to my cry for help; be not deaf to my weeping. For I dwell with you as an alien, a stranger, as all my fathers were.
when we cry out to the Lord, he hears us and he does not ignore anyone of our cry’s, even though we may not get it then or receive it then it’s not what God wants and it’s all about what God what cause he knows what is best 4 u and he has a plan and a purpose for everybody’s life
MARANATHA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
That says it all right there!! In the end, there will be nothing left…. nothing to look to to save us…. nothing but God!!! :)
My hope should always be placed in God!! Not the person next to me to give me advice, not my friend to show me the right thing to do…. but God!!! “In God alone my hope is found!!” I need to trust Him because He is everything!!!

7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
this verse gives me a huge perspective on what a Godly life should look like. the world constantly tells us that we need to go to college to be a doctor or lawyer and make a lot of money so that we cna live comfortably, but when we look at the big scheme of things none of that matters at all. this verse reminds me about how all we need to do is focus on glorifying God and He will take care of all the rest including oour earthly needs, not our wants, but our needs, and that is exciting to me!
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath. Selah
Many people tend to think of themselves as sort of invincible…or even if they acknowledge that they will die one day…it’s always thought of as a long way off. Reading this verse is a reminder of just how short life is…I don’t know when I’m going to die….I need to make sure that my short time here on earth is spent glorifying and praising Him for all creation.
6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
It’s so strange how much people care about worldly things when they don’t really even matter. I’m so glad that my hope is in things that last. I am going to focus on what I can do for God rather than on what I can do for myself, and that way I will be better prepared for God’s return.
Ps 39:7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you
what an awesome verse this is!! We cant rely on anything BUT God! when we are going through difficult times, God is the only one we are able to fully trust in. THANK YOU GOD!!!
Psalm 39
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”
2 But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased.
3 My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue:
David here in verses 1-3 talks about his covenant with God to watch his words and actions. We as Christians need to take into account our own covenant with God to eliminate sin from our life. Many in the church do not honor their professed covenant with God especially away from church when they continue in their sin. David specifically is concerned about the sins of the tongue. We need to especially guard over our mouth in the presence of nonbelievers so we do not drive them from the faith. David talks about not saying anything not even anything good which made him even more miserable. God gives us opportunities to be truth tellers to nonbelievers. We need to stand up for Christ by rebuking others when they are sinning against God. Our sin separates us from our Lord and also can be the cause of suffering in our life if we continue in our sin.
3 My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue:
I really like these first three verses. David is tired of sinning so he tries just not to talk and hopes that that will free him from the guilt of sin. But even when he stays silent he doesn’t feel any better. I like how Mike pointed out that just staying silent is sin as well because we aren’t doing the good we are supposed to do. This is why David continued to feel anguish over his sin. But in verse three, David finally cries out to God and later in the psalm asks for God’s deliverance as His only hope.
I liked these verses because too many times in the past have I, after feeling bad over sin, tried to fight it myself by doing something like trying to keep my mouth shut and just remove me from situations. But then later I felt even worse because I knew I was continuing in sin by not doing the good I should be doing. However, when I finally get around to confessing my sin to the LORD and asking Him to forgive and deliver me, I feel such joy and relief. I need to remind myself that I am powerless to do anything, so when I see sin in my life I shouldn’t just try to fight it without giving a thought to God but rather instantly cry out, begging His forgiveness and then asking Him to help me overcome it. My hope needs to be in the Lord and not in my own strength or anything else because only He is mighty to deliver me.
