Psalm 119:121-128

Psalm 119:121-128

Ayin

121 I have done what is just and right;
do not leave me to my oppressors.
122 Give your servant a pledge of good;
let not the insolent oppress me.
123 My eyes long for your salvation
and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
124 Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
and teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant; give me understanding,
that I may know your testimonies!
126 It is time for the Lord to act,
for your law has been broken.
127 Therefore I love your commandments
above gold, above fine gold.
128 Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right;
I hate every false way. (ESV)

  1. Riley hancock says:

126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken.

this is a good verse it is saying that God needs to act because his laws are being broken. But we need to act and make new Christians.

  2. Old man new heart, grateful for the sacrifice of Jesus for my sin says:

Total dependence on God’s precepts – that’s what the Psalmist shouts out in this verse of the song. Faith in God’s protection (v121-2), His salvation (v.123), His instruction and wisdom (v. 124-5), His justice (v.126), value (v.127) and His righteousness that forms and informs my life. I want to honor You by being like You – please help me Lord.

  3. Beth Lauder says:

23 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise.

The image in this verse is very powerful. The psalmist’s eyes are so focused on God and His salvation that his vision is blurred and beginning to fail. Have you ever read a book, watched tv, or had your eyes fixed on a computer screen for so long that your vision starts to fail? Let’s stop focusing so much on earthly things and spend enough time in the Bible so that our eyes get blurry! The psalmist is doing what Hebrews 12:2a says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith!”

  4. Austin, in the Morning :D says:

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

Mmmm, this remind me of the verses we memorized during Revival, where it said “I consider them rubbish, compared to the supassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus, My Lord.” Every other option other than the one that leads us to Christ is a wrong one. Other hobbies and stuff are fine, but if they are a stumbling block in your “path,” you must hate them.

  5. 127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

I really liked these verses because the psalmist shows us that what we value we act on. He has such value for God’s commands that it causes him to hate every wrong path and love what is right. We cannot say we love God or his Word and not do what he says. I want to make sure I consider his word and am careful to remember his commands today not just as mental awareness but a real life demonstration of how much I love them shown by living them!

  6. 126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken.

I got a question??? Okay what does it mean when it says “it is time for you to act”? does that mean for God to not be with the Israelites and hand them over to their enemies like the Philistines or something?

  7. Ben Blakey says:

123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise.

As this Psalm progresses, I love the continual picture of hope that we see. Here we learn that hope is not just a passive, peaceful feeling; it is a longing, a yearning, a fainting–so much so that the Psalmist’s eyes fail because he is looking for God’s salvation and waiting for his promise. May our hope look like this today!

  8. 127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

Do we love his commands so much? Do we love His Word more than life itself? Are we dependent on it daily? We see here that our love for God’s commands are what will motive us to stay away from the wrong path (sin) and do what is right, and live holy…

  9. Bobby Blakey says:

Hey KJ, Good question my friend!

This is a call out for the justice of God! Throughout the psalms there are many appeals from the psalmists for God to make right everything that is going wrong in the world. The idea is don’t let the wicked get away with it God. Do something to judge them so that everyone will know those who breaks your laws get busted and those who do what you say are rewarded. Let us know God that you run things as it should be even though that’s not the way it going right now in the world.

121 I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors.

The first verse in this section sets the tone that the psalmist is living a righteous life before God and therefore expects his protection from the wicked that he wants God to punish as he calls for in verse 126.

Here is one example of another psalm where the psalmist wants God to act justly and set things right on the earth:

Psalm 9:19 – Arise, O Lord, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. Strike them with terror, O Lord; let the nations know they are but men.

  10. okay thanks Pastor Bobby! That made perfect sense!!!

  11. Jasmine Douglas says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes

Philippians 1:9-10 “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ” My prayer today is that I’m able to distinguish the things that are important in my life and make them my top priority. We need to make sure that we examine God’s word carefully and be obedient to his commands. Have a great day in the Lord, True North!

  12. Alison says:

126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken.

One word: MARANATHA! Can’t wait for the day that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!!

  13. Dan Lauder says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

This is the right way to view our life. We are God’s servants. Jesus himself saw things this way, how much more should we?

“…the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” – Matthew 20:28.

This is the attitude the men who followed Joshua had as they followed his lead into the Promised Land in Joshua 1:16,

“Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.”

  14. Mechell says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

I purchased an ivy plant from home depot a few weeks ago; as I was looking at it this morning, I noticed something kind of interesting. I had placed the plant in a somewhat darkened corner and to my surprise, all the leaves have turned toward the window, in desperate need of some sunlight. It’s fascinating to think that something like a plant, knows that without the sun, it is sure to wither and die. The sun is crucial to its survival.

The psalmist also knows the priceless value of God’s word. God’s commands are his priority and his treasure. Like the ivy plant, let us be fully aware of the necessity of scripture for our spiritual survival and turn to it daily.

  15. Jacob Foreman says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

This verse shows us that our love also needs to be not about the unimportant material things in the world like gold. Gold, money, electronics, houses, cars, clothing, etc… means nothing in the end when we stand before the judgement of the Lord. God isn’t going to be impressed that you became rich enough to own the Lakers if you forsake Him for those material things. We must focus on what God wants from us and the precepts that He has spelled out in the Bible for us to follow. We must strive towards these precepts and avoid the temptations of other paths that take us in a direction away from Christ.

  16. Meisha Preston says:

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

Love for God and his Word will make me hate every wrong path. We are accousted with sin every day from every direction. So much of it becomes normal and accepted…however, this should not be our response. We need to hate what is wrong because it violates the perfect Law of God.

  17. John Karlsson says:

Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

I wonder how many of us truly hate every wrong path. Ephesians 5:3 says But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
If we truly hated every wrong path, what kind of music would we listen to, what kind of T.V. Shows would we watch, what movies would we go see? Does loving God and wanting to follow his commands effect our decision making in those areas?

  18. Kelsey says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

Is this really true? We woud like to say it is, but if it was, all of our lives would look a lot different. We would HATE every little sin that we commit. We may thing we hate it, but we often just go back and do it again. If we hate a food, we never go back and eat it again just cause we feel like it! Sins should be like that. We should not keep returning to them if we truly hate all sin becuase God hates it

  19. Sarah G.! says:

124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees.

I love how the psalmist is giving God power over his life!! It’s not like God doesn’t have the power, but what I noticed was that he understood that he NEEDED God’s will to be done!! He also understood that he needs to obey God’s holy statutes in order to please him. This is the attitude we should have everyday as we live to glorify God! :D

  20. Murphy Danahy says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

David made many wrong desciscions in his life, but he truly did value GOD’s commands above all. He would do wrong, but be very repentant in the end. That is the difference between him and his oppressors, they reveled in their evil and arrogance, but David hated his sin. That is how we should be, repentant and loving GOD’s Word.

  21. ~ Elizabeth R. ~ says:

124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees.

It seems like i’ve heard this a couple times before… But that is good, because it probably means that it is very important! This verse is straight to the point. The Psalmist is asking God to take care of Him according to His love. This is another great example in the Bible of trusting Him for everything. Not only that, but the Psalmist is telling God to teach His laws. This is also great, because they are asking God to teach His laws, in order to have a better life, and follow Him. This also falls into reading our Bibles everyday, so we can learn His laws, and live by them. This verse is a great example!

  22. Zach V. says:

124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees

Without God’s love we would all be in hell right now; but becasue God has love for us, He gave His one and only son to die for us who are christians so we could be considered pure in God’s sight. God definately has some awesome love for us.

  23. jeremy says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

i really liked this verse, like john said how many of us do really hate the wrong path… we should examine our lives for that because we cant be following you and then be going down the wrong path at the same time

  24. Dulos of rightousness says:

22 Ensure your servant’s well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me.

This kinda made me think about how God is always there for us and how he has a plan for us! Like the verse said ensure your servants well being, God is doing just that for us! God has a plan for us and for our well being and even though it might not be what we WANT it is truly what is good for us and for our future. Like Jeremiah 29:11 says,

“for I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

It may not always be what we want but it is what is best for us!

  25. Chelseaaaa says:

MAJORLY EXCITED FOR SMALL GROUPS TONIGHT

123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise.

This is a good reminder. We are human, we are going to fail. But the Lord is ever faithful and true. I cling to that every day of my life.

  26. Janiel V says:

122 Ensure your servant’s well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me.

even though its hard, we’re supposed to do the best that we can and strive to be as perfect as we can; to be like Jesus as much as possible, even though we are not perfect.

  27. Mike says:

126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken.

The day is fast approaching when God WILL act, punishing everyone who has not repented and put their faith in His Son. As Christians, we should be excited for this day, as we will finally be able to spend eternity with God. But we need to have a sense of compassion and urgency for the lost that drives us spend our time here telling them, before it is too late.

  28. Jenae Naeeee (= says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

I just love love love these two verses. We should not only love God more than gold but also his commands!! Also, God is right, no matter what.

  29. Zach Senger says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes

I like this verse alot. This is something that i think we should be asking God every day. We need to be askng God to show us what is right and wrong. We also need to go further than that we need to make sure that once we know what is right and what is wrong that we are asking Him for spiritual protection from what is wrong and pray that we would be doing what is right!!!

  30. Christy Beymer says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

We are all servants for the lord. Trying to fulfill everything he asks of us, and obeying his commands are the least we can do for this amazing God. We should be praying constantly that God will help us understand him better. By doing this, we are gaining knowledge and drawing closer to God.

  31. Collin S says:

123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise.
127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

Don’t Stop, Believin! hold on to that feelin!
In my opinion, that’s exactly was these verses describes. That you don’t have to see in order to believe, and that if you love him that much that you will never lose hope!

  32. ELLA says:

124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees.

I love this verse, saying that God will justify us with love and also teach us what we need to know to do the right things and live for HIM.

  33. Kyle Sonk says:

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

I think as christians we need to have this mindset that David had and we need to despise all evil things.

  34. Amy Burke! says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

I love the word ‘discernment’ because it descibes not only learning, but grasping things that are obscure and unseen. Discernment is also something that we attain through maturity. As we mature in our Christian faith we not only learn more about God, but we learn more how to please Him. We also learn how to better handle certain life situations in a Godly way and how to better represent Christ in all that we do.

I pray that God would always give me a servant’s heart, a taechable spirit and discernment to understand and apply His statutes.

  35. Matt Lawler says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

I pray that i can have this same love for Gods commands and value His way more than any of my personal desires.

  36. kelly causky says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

We have to take this perspective and stop putting worthless idols before God. Things of this earth do not matter when eternal life is in the picture.

  37. Rebekah Foreman says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

We need to stop putting anything before the Lord. Whether it is earlthy posessions or idols. Do not let anything become you and God.

  38. PaYtOn :] says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

Discernment: acuteness of judgment and understanding.
God created us and we need to thank and serve Him (aka be His servants). It is the least we could do, for He sent His son to die for us. And as a Christian I long to understand all that He has instore but a lot of it I may not understand. Like Noah, he had NO idea what rain was and why God wanted him to build a boat. I mean when we look at it, we are like, well duh a flood was coming and at that time Noah had no idea on what that was. It is like God comes to us and says to build a underground home, for crazy people(use your imagination) were going to come and kill all Christians and when you told others that they didn’t believe you and thought you needed to see a doctor because you were crazy. SOO ya, it would be sooo cool to understand and know what God has instore but somethmes it is too big for us to comprehend. :]

***GOD HAS A PURPOSE AND PLAN FOR YOU THAT IS BIGGER THAN YOU KNOW!!!***

  39. 127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold

We need to love God’s commands and his word! We need to be in it daily and wanting to know more and more! Reading our bibles should not be something we forget to do. We need to treasure it and love it more than anything! The Bible is God-breathed. It tells is what we need to follow and seek after!

  40. jeffrey Modugno says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.
This verse just showed me that I need to put reading the Bible and growing closer to God as first priority. I think we should pray for understanding of Gods statures this week.

  41. T moore says:

126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken.

This is great because the psalmist isn’t seeking revenge or getting even with these people, but he is waiting for the LORD to punish them.

  42. Luke Melrose!!!!!! says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold

Its hard for us to admit that we cherish other things in life alot more than God’s commands. We probabally can name a few things that get in the way of us loving what God says. In the end, the only thing that matters is what God says. He lasts forever, and our idols wont be around to last. We need to meditate on this verse and think, “How much do I love God’s commands?” We need to check ourselves and make sure that nothing gets in the way of us doing what God says….

….and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path. (V 128)

  43. Laura Johnson says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

I love in this verse how it says, “I am your servant” because God is our creator and we are to serve Him. And as His servants we need to give Him our all each and everyday in all that we do.

  44. Gabriel Voris says:

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

We as Christians need to dislike every single bad and wrong path that you can take. We need to keep away from these wrong paths because they could lead us astray. We need to be always choosing the path that leads towards the righteousness that God desires for us.

  45. Adam Graves says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

I love these two verses, and thanks pastor bobby for answering kc’s question it make the verse alot more clear and easyier for me to follow

  46. Taylin Reinholtz says:

125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

This verse actually reminded me of when Solomon prays for a discering heart instead of all the wealth in the land, or supreme kingship, or whateverelse he could have asked for. I want to obey God and do what he asks of me and I need his help to do that. I know I’ve been guilty of saying “I want to obey God” and then go on my way, thinking that I have to try to obey him all by myself. God gives us the strength to obey him and will help us keep his commands if we just ask! And trust me, asking isn’t hard especially when you are asking God for help to obey him!

  47. Katie Slusher says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

Awesome verses! Do we really hate every wrong path? If this was truly our attitudes, wouldn’t we be sinning a lot less? Are we actively engaged with a fight against our sin? Verse 128 points out that through the study of God’s commands, the attitude of hating his sin emerges. I pray that we would realize the importance and connection of being in God’s Word daily and our constant fight with our sin. As our disobedience to God’s Word is exposed through our study of the Bible, we will see our sinful actions and hate the sin we see in our lives.

  48. Princess Di says:

128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

We need to DESPISE sin. We need to hate the wrong that goes on in this world, and in our lives. We need to be so aware of the sin in our life that we catch it and remove it immediately. So many times I catch myself but I choose not to do anything about it. Or I don’t even catch myself till later. Daily we must repent and ask God to wipe our sins away and leave us with a clean slate. We need to ask God to examine the depths of our heart and wash the impurity away. We need to love God’s laws and what is right and hate the worldly, sin-infested wrong things we are constantly faced with.

  49. DB says:

127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,

Man I love the Psalmist’s love for the Lord’s Word! More than gold!!! That’s how we should model our lives!
