Psalm 119:73-80
Yodh
73 Your hands have made and fashioned me;
give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
74 Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice,
because I have hoped in your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous,
and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
76 Let your steadfast love comfort me
according to your promise to your servant.
77 Let your mercy come to me, that I may live;
for your law is my delight.
78 Let the insolent be put to shame,
because they have wronged me with falsehood;
as for me, I will meditate on your precepts.
79 Let those who fear you turn to me,
that they may know your testimonies.
80 May my heart be blameless in your statutes,
that I may not be put to shame! (ESV)

The SC skit was funny. Spencer and Jeremy were cracking me up. SC should of won, I really feel the judges would of come to the same decision had they not been so rushed at the end to pick a winner. Oh well maybe next year.
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands
God is the ultimate source of knowledge and truth, any “spiritual wisdom” we think we have is only because God has chosen to reveal himself to us. I am thankful for the free gift of salvation and am humbled by his grace and mercy. Any good works that we do are only because God has prepared them in advance for us to do. I need to give God the glory and the honor in all I do, because the strength to do so comes from Him and no one else.
Hey True North!
This is your pastor up in the middle of the night with a fever… But I am seeking God through his Word!
I loved connecting with all of you who were there last night!
And I loved the two verses in this section where it talked about the connection of those who fear God. That we would rejoice when we see each other. That we would turn to each other. I am praying I will have this kind of connection with all of you!
This is the most powerful connection two people can have: a mutual fear of God!
Ps 119:74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
Fear of God – what a great common bond between people! Yes, Pastor Bobby, it’s great to have a mutual fear of the LORD with all believers. And it’s also fantastic that other believers would come to rely on me as an instrument of God here to help them and all others because of Christ’s love.
78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.
Let God do the punishing. If someone does sometihng wrong to you, it’s not our job to go and get them back for it. Leave that to God. Here it says “but i will meditate on your precepts.” So instead of going and taking revenge on someone, let God do that and remember that He is the one who will not let anyone go unpunished. So when someone does something bad to you, remember verses like this one, and let God do His job.
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
Is this what your heart yearns for? To be blameless in the LORD’s sight. GOD and CHRIST and their commands are what truly matter. We need to follow GOD with all our heart soul mind and strength.
78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.
Wowthis verse really stood out to me. Great response Max; vengance belongs to the Lord. Instead of retaliatingthe psalmist does what is best and what is right-He focuses on God’s precepts, better than that: he actually meditates on them! I want to have this type of Godly response next time I am wronged without cause, and hurt by the arrogance of others.
79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes.
Sounds like the psalmist is praying for God to bring him godly friends. We should do the same! Got godly friends already? Great! Pray for thier walk with the Lord to be strong!
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
Putting our hope in God and His Word during difficult times is the right response. The fact that God is loving and working all the bad in our lives for His good helps us to trust in Him and find comfort during life’s trials. Lamentations 3:22 says, “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.” May we all put our hope in God and find rest in His love as we face tough circumstances.
74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
Where do we place our hope??? Although as Christians we want to say that our hope is in Him and His Word, do we live our lives like that? Do we hold tightly to that hope? Is it what gives us a peace when the world and our circumstances seem to go crazy? Is it what motivates us to live holy lives knowing we will one day meet our Maker face to face? Is it what causes us to want to share the Gospel out of compassion for the lost and weary? May we be like the Psalmist and put our hope in HIM and HIS WORD!

77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
This is what will happen if we do delight in God’s commands. If we do seek to worship him and follow his law then we will be blessed with his compassion and mercy even more than before. And if we truly love the lord than we are going to want to follow his commands and do Gods will.
Just a few little verses in this section reveal a lot about God.
“In faithfulness you have afflicted me.”
-While sometimes we may be tempted to think that times of trouble or pain express the lack of God’s faithfulness, the opposite is true. The times of affliction actually prove God’s faithfulness as he uses those things to grow and mature us.
“May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.”
-God’s unfailing love and his promises are wrapped up together. We can always count on them.
“Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.”
-God is so compassionate, and the fact that we are alive both physically and spiritually proves this. I hope these beautiful truths about our God increase our affections for him and his revelation to us!
Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
God knows us better than we know ourselves. Psalm 139 gives us a perfect example of how well God knows every aspect of our lives. He formed our inward parts; He wove us in our mother’s womb; we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Since God is our creator, it would be foolish to think that we could carry out His purposes for our lives apart from Him. We need to be totally dependent on Him, knowing that He is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. God alone is able to provide the understanding we need to learn and obey commands.
77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
I know for me the more I read the Word, the more I want to read it. The less I read it, the less I want to read it. When we read God’s word we come intact with the truth; the truth about God, us, and the way the world works. This gives me perspective and “delight” as it allows me to handle whatever the world throws at me for the day. Why wouldn’t I want more of that?
74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
We are to rejoice when we see each other, when we see someone else that fears the Lord. But so often we don’t want to see each other or we don’t like each other because of some quirk. I know I need to work on overcoming this in my life and truly rejoice to see other Christians.
FEEL BETTER BOBBY!!!! WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU!!!!
73 Your hands made me and formed me;
People ask us why. Why we are Christians? Why do we follow all the laws? Why why why? This is why. God formed us, created us, gave us life. Praise be to Him.
77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
It’s just makes me think, do I or we have the same type of heart for God’s Word? Do we find delight, do we find pleasure in God’s Word? Do we truly want to know who God is? The Bible will give us those answers, it all depends how much do you care? If we do care, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be reading the Bible!
77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
FEEL BETTER BOBBY!!!!! God help Bobby to get better. Everyone pray for Bobby.
this verse is good help me through the word you gave to us.
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
God did the the biggest thing for our lives, HE CREATED US! He did that for us so our immediate response should be to obey him.
First, just want to say that I hope you, Bobby, are feeling better and that I will be praying for you.
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
Great verse! We were all created and made in the image of God and that is just so amazing and just really makes me want to really get into the Bible and learn God’s commands.
74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
…
79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes.
God makes it clear in other Bible verses/books that we need to fear him and here are two great verses for it. We should be fearing because… he is GOD! Some people say that God is there “home-boy” but we should be realizing that God isn’t just one of our friends but he is our king, the sovereign ruler!
Kyle, ”should of” is not proper English, you’re looking for ”should have” or its contraction ”should’ve”. sorry…
77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live….
The Lord’s compassion and provision are the only things keeping us alive, and giving us hope of a second chance. We have done nothing to deserve eternal life, but because of God’s great love for us He sent His Son to die for us. But this compassion will not last forever; one day soon, Christ will be returning to separate His children from Satan’s children. We need to make sure that we are urgent about telling everyone we know about this amazing gift before it is too late!
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
There is nothing more comforting than God’s love. His lovingkindness is what is allowing this world to function day after day. It is because of Gods love for us that we even have the ability to have our sins forgiven. John 13:34 – Jesus is speaking and says to love one another, just as He loved us. Gods love is so strong and unfathomable, and we are unable to function without it.
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
Because I claim to follow you, I want my heart to be constantly pure as I remain in obedience. It would be embarrassing if I tell someone about Jesus Christ and they tell me that I am a hypocrite because I gossiped, or complained, or swore… I want to be blameless so that people will know that I live for you.
GET BETTER PASTOR BOBBY!!! :]
I agree with Stephanies comment on unfailing love
77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
God’s compassion is a gift that is given to us so that we may live and we need to exert that love and compassion towards “one another.” :]
***SHARE THE LOVE AND COMPASSION TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER!!!***
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
Who made the mouth but God? Who made the brain but God? No one. Our creator, just as he wonderfully formed us from birth, will also help us use the mouth he created and the brain he formed to do his will. Therefore there is no excuse for fearing if other people will stump us or not being wise enough to understand God’s word. These verses in Exodus 4:10-12 rightly explain this: “Moses said to the LORD, “O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”The LORD said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
Mechell, that was exactly what I was going to say! He is our source of wisdom. He is our source of life. He will give you understanding if you desire and ask for it.
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant
Couldn’t have been more clear. I don’t konow about you guys, but before I was a Christian, I wasn’t as happy, and I would definately be more nervous and untrusting about things. Now that I am a Christian, and have and understand His love, I feel a lot less stressed and I have learned to trust God. And of course, I find comfort in Him.
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
LOVE THIS VERSE
how it says God formed us by his own hands
and gave us life so we should learn and follow is commands
and be obiedient to god!!
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
i love this verse! if God didnt love us from the beginning, he would not have made us! as jenae said, our first response to this verse should be obedience! God made us and formed us so we could glorify his name!
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
when i read this verse i was convicted because of the dedication of the psalmist to making God’s commands first in his life. we were created in God’s image to glorify and serve Him and it is pathetic how easily we let our own plans get in the way of God’s perfect will.
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
This verse is my favorite from this passage because it talks about how the Lord created us.. we need to be obedient and glorify Him because without Him we are nothing. We need to learn from God’s wisdom and use it to live everyday for Him (:
74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
This is awesome. We should be praying for it more. We need to put our hope in the Word because that is where true hope is. Also we should rejoice when we see that others Fear the Lord.
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
It’s a bummer that hypocrisy is the #1 turnoff to Christianity. In order to fight this we need to be praying that we are blameless and living above reproach in everything we do!
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
I find this verse particularly meaningful right now after some recent…turmoil, in my life. In no one and nowhere else can we find ever-present, ever-lasting, and ever-strengthening comfort for our sorrows. No matter what trials may afflict me, I may always find refuge in the Lord.
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
This sorta reminds me of the verse in the Bible that talks about looking at the plank in your eye before looking at the splinter in another’s eye (was that said right?). The way I read this verse, I looked at it like someone trying to avoid hypocrisy (spelling error, I know). Before we begin to try and point others to God’s ways and how they may not be doing it right, we have to get right with God and make sure we are blameless before him so that we may be able to help others onto the narrow road that leads to eternal life. If we don’t ask God for a blameless heart, people are going to notice and not want to follow the narrow road. To many, it is not very appealing. Also, as humans, its almost like we have excuses always ready in case we need them. A non-believer may be looking for an excuse to not have to follow God so that they don’t have to do things they aren’t comfortable in their life. Well a Christian who doesn’t exemplify Christ very well is the perfect excuse to saying no to God. That’s why we need to be blamless and remember to connect with others! We don’t want to be mistaken for a bad group of people!
Let’s get that narrow road into a wide road due to so many people following it! Boo ya for God!!!!
Hope you’re feeling better as soon as possible Pastor Bobby!!
74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
Oh so true. People, other Christians, should look at us and say, “That person is living for God.” Other Christians should be thrilled to associate themselves with us because of our selflessness and desire to serve Him.
anyone who turns from should go to God and trust him.
for God made us to live and breath air and to speak his word
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
The knowledge of this verse has helped me through so much this past month or two. Even through struggles and hardships God’s love is around me and I can feel Him trying to teach me a lesson through the obstecles I face in my life. God may put troubles in our lives but it is only because He knows whats best for us and He does it so we can learn the lesson He wants us to. Our God is loving, patient, compassionate, and merciful. May He reign forever! (and He will!)
I really love all the verses in these passages. The verse that sticks out to me the most is:
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
I love how the pslamist writes unfailing as a reminder that God’s love never fails. We can always turn to it in comfort and hard times and we know this because God promised us.
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
Also this verse is a great prayer because we should want to hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness and his laws and decrees. Like Beth said, the main reason i hear is hypocrisy and if people live a God fearing life and obey his laws that will spark some interest if they see us living a different life.
Awwwww, I hope you feel better Pastor Bobby. I’ll be praying for you ;)
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
Wow! We are all made in the image of God, to worship and to glorify Him. He loves us sooooooo much! If He didn’t love us, then why did He create us? For one reason only, to love Him unconditionally n make more disciples!! This verse was convicting because we are made like him and we need to show our commitment and dedication to Jesus Christ. Like every day reading my bible to bond and get to know Him better, praying in my secret place, and sharing the good news with love n gentleness. Just a few things to be more like Him. Like for me, I need to get my butt back on SOTD everyday XD. God created the heavens and the earth. He created you and me, and every little thing on this planet. Thank you Lord for everything you do. You are sooooo awesome! I love you and I praise you!
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
God is the Creator of all that is. He is the ultimate authority, and we are under him. Because we are under him we must obey him! I love the psalmists attitude, he doesn’t succumb to check-the-box obedience, but wants to have understanding so he can learn God’s commands. He cares about obeying from the heart. This is my prayer too!
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
When we are going through tough times, it is so great to know that God will love us no matter what. We should take “comfort” in this love, because God is the only one who never fails.
I shall pray for you Pastor Bobby! :O
These verses reminded me that God is the creator of all things and is very understanding of everything that is going on in our lives. He will remain faithful and righteous foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! He has an unfailing love and He will always be compassionate. Those are just a few things we can praise God for! I need God’s unfailing love to be my comfort for when I am down or jsut when I am joyful! I need to turn to God’s Word and prayer to help me get through…well everyday! :D
78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.
This verse brings me joy because I know that 1 day, all those people that made fun of me will be judged by the Lord! God I know there is a reward for the good I do in your name, thank you! :)
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
Greatest thing God did was to Form us and give us life. God is the creator of us.
Thank you God for giving me life.
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
YESSS his unfailing love is such a blessing to exprience!!! I thank God for his “Super blanket of love” hahaha. :)
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
I love how the Psalmist recognizes God’s role in our understanding of scripture. It is only because of God’s grace that we can understand His Word and apply it to our lives. This is super humbling to me cause it reminds me that I am dependant on God to understand Him, and that the only reason I know things about Him is because He choose to reveal them to me.
Get better soon Pastor Bobby, I am praying for you!
Great comments Ben and Christa.
75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
God is just and righteous and His laws are perfect. Like earlier in this chapter the psalmist talks about delighting in the law of the Lord and that is something I definitely want to do! His law is perfect and I want to obey God as His child and I want to delight in His word and in His commands! That is my daily prayer that I will do that.
I am praying for you Pastor Bobby!!
Praying for you Pastor Bobby!
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
God’s promise is my hope and my comfort in life. Its what makes me feel alright even when everything else just is stupid and horrible and I want to give up on it. God is so incredible- I know he loves me and I don’t deserve any bit of it. Just… wow. Its all I can do to remember what Jesus has done for me and then live my life for him(:
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
I enjoyd reading ths verse, im going through a hard time right now and a reminder of God’s unfailing love is very comforting right now! I am so thankful for the love of Christ!!
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame
I really like this verse. We talk about this alot at True North. Its the topic of making sure that we are above reproach. What that means is basically what this verse says it is being blameless so that no one can point to something that is wrong in your life and put you to shame like it says in the second part of the verse. This concept is such an important one for Christians. It is a vital thing to be doing. If we are not living above reproach then what kind of example is that to our non-Christian friends. We as Christians need to be showing others what it is like to be a Christian and have nothing that they can point to and say well you call yourselve a Christian but you do this all the time (cuss, disrespect, gossip, lie, cheat, etc.). We need to make sure that as Christians we are living our lives above reproach so no one can look at us and put us to shame!!!!!!! 116
73.) Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
This is such an awesome verse to read, I think sometimes we (or maybe just me) forget the simple things like…God made us. Therefore, we need to obey our creator!
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
It’s so cool how God created us. And since He is our creator to obey and understand His commands
76 “May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.”
God has promised us that His love will never fail; it is consistent, forever the same. I hope that we will rest secure and be comforted by this truth.
80 “May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.”
I pray that this is what I will have: a heart that is blameless in the light of God’s commands. Help me to obey you always, God!
Great comments everyone!!!
I liked verse 76…
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
How awesome is it that our God has unfailing love toward us! Its sooo cool and encouraging!
73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
This verse jumped out at me because the only way we can truly understand God and his commands is by him. We need ot be praying for wisdom and reading his word.
Verse 80 mentions blamelessness and shame…. It is a good reminder of the standard set in the Bible and that disobedience is always shameful.
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
Isn’t it wonderful to have God ALWAYS at our back, and comforting us when we need it? Life is unpredictable and there will be times where we feel sad, unwanted, and alone. Maybe a broken heart, or a sick family member or friend. Maybe it feels like everyone turned their back on us. But no matter what, God is always there with his unchanging love for us, and through his love we can be comforted. He promised us that he will never change.
78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.
This verse shows that when people try to harm us, it is for no cause because we are blameless. If we were all perfect this would be how we would live like. We are not perfect but we can still strive for it.
Psalm 119:73-80
Three of these verses are specific to being a good example to others.
74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes.
Non Christians around us are taking note of the things we do and say. They say that actions speak louder than words and it couldn’t be truer for the Christian life. It doesn’t matter how good you might be at evangelism if you are not a good example of Christ than you will be a stumbling block to others. Let us make sure that we are exemplifying the love of God all the time not just when we are at church.
80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.
As Christians, our actions should be above reproach. Though the world may hate us (John 15:19) and try to wrong us, we should not retaliate against them. They may wrong us for no reason, but they will be put to shame because our actions will honor our Father, rather than vindicate ourselves. Let’s let God enact the justice and focus on faithfully obeying His Commands.
Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
God created us! He knows everything about us! In Matthew 10:30 it says that, “Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” He loves us and wants the very best for us! We need to be in the word every day and seek his truth and wisdom.
