I love the story of David and Goliath. Because It really is just a show of the faith that David had in God to do the right thing. There are going to be many Goliaths in are lives and we need to strike them down. Maybe there was a Goliath in your life today I know there was one in my life. Was mocking a kids name which was Jesus in spanish and she kept calling him Jesus very loudly and I did not stand up. Today Goliath won and I was like on of Davids brothers. Useally I enjoy standing up for what I believe in wheather it be politics or religion, but today I lacked the strength and feared men more than I feared God. and I think that David understood that. He fear what God might do if he did not strike down Goliath, more than Goliath him self.

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Anyone can have a sword and spear with a javelin, but no one can come to you like the Lord our God does. He comes with millions of armies behind Him. David trust the Lord and has tremedous faith in Him that he believed Gd was going to lead the army and him into victory.

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47 and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.”

It is so awesome how David has so much faith in God and trusts that God will help him kill Goliath. David tells saul that God will help him kill Goliath just like God helped him kill a bear and a lion! David's faith in God gave him no fear because he trusted that God would not let him die when he confronts Goliath for insulting God.

hahaa David just destroyed them. Goliath was good at trash talking Israel and God David though, just owned them with his little trash talk.

This verse has always stood out to me. David has so much faith and confidence that God is going to win the battle that he has absolutely no fear! I want to live my life with the mindset of David, who relied on God to win the battle and get the glory!

26 And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

I love davids enthusiasm for defending the name of God. these Philistines are bassing God and even though the odds are far against him he stands up for the Lord without any hesitationand goes to fight him. i want to have daivd's amazing enthusiasm to stand up for God in any and all situations no matter what the odds. God is holy and merciful and I owe everythign to Him

One thing that always stands out to me in this chapter is the contrast between David and Saul. Saul (with the rest of Israel) is afraid and hanging in his tent when he should be out fighting. On the other hand, David is courageous even though he is young and small compared to Goliath.

Fear is something I struggle with on a daily basis, but I need to fight against it with a confidence in the Lord like David had.

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
DAvid had so much confidence in the Lord. I tend to rely on people a lot and trust in them way too much, when i should put all trust in the Lord. This verse reminds me of Satan and how he is always trying to destroy us, but we must be confident and come in the name of the Lord. It also reminds me of revival when we talked about how we should be bothered when people disrespect our God. David comes and fights in the name of the Lord because they have defied and disrespected his God. As i talked about at small groups tonight, i am going to go out of my comfort zone and tell people when they are offending me because that is rude for them to be use my Lords name as a cuss word and it is offensive! I strive to be more like DAvid in all these ways.

For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.”
THis is awesome and reminds me how the battle (life) s the Lords and it is in His hands. I must give my heart and life to the Lord because it is His and he has a plan for my life. There is no reason to worry or stress out about my future because God knows His will for my life! I pray for my future that whatever i do with my life, it will be to glorify you and your name!

37 And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”

I love that David gave God all the glory for his victory over the lion and the bear. Rather than claiming that he would be victorious against Goliath because of his own abilities, he proclaims that the Lord would deliver him. In my own pride, sometimes I'll take the credit for the abilities God has given me. I need to make sure that I am always giving him the glory for what he has done and is continuing to do in my life.
