The Word of Life
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
Walking in the Light
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (ESV)

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
And yet so many would (and WILL) choose to remain indignant and prideful. Oh, Father God, how I pray You would give us hearts of humility and service, obedience and submission, all for Love’s sake. Purify us and give us the heart transplant that we so desperately need. We ache and long for You. But until our celebratory reunion, oh Father…keep us steadfast in our obedience to You by Your Holy Spirit.
Amen Stacy! Lord, heal us through Love (who is Jesus)!
1 John 1:6-7 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Lord, I pray that You would search our hearts and bring up any deception we may have regarding our relationship with You. And then, as we confess, put it on the cross of Jesus to be cleansed! Please come soon!
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
1 John is an awesome book that makes it very clear that you cannot be a Christian unless you live a life of obedience to God’s Word after your conversion. In our society John 3:16 is the theme verse for thousands of people who say “I am a Christian because I believe in God,” yet they do not obey God and continue to live in their sin. This verse makes it obvious that if we only have a mental agreement to the fact that Jesus is God and that He died on the cross for our sins, but that fact does not change our heart and lives and the way we live, that our faith is not legit! This verse is a reality check for all of us. Anyone can say he is a Christian, but the truth is found in how we live our life after we claim repentance and faith. True repentance means that we turn from our sin and do not continue to walk in the darkness. It is my prayer today that we all would examine our hearts and lives closely to be sure that we are not continuing to walk in our sin. This verse is clear….if we do that, then we are deceived about our faith and lack a true right-standing with God.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This is probably one of the most awesome verses ever! No matter what i do, God will always forgive me if i admitt that i screwed up. He’ll save me from eternal damnation and make me as clean as clean can be! That is something that i’ll never stop being thankful for!!
1 John…awesome book
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Our sin separates us from God; But Jesus has solved this problem for us and can forgive of us of EVERY sin! Because of this we can have relationship with a holy God that is based on our obedience to Him as a our loving Father and not on our feelings. I am going to focus on getting closer to God by obeying Him more!
I too am so amazing by God’s love for me! Great comment Huntyyy!
Great comment Hunter! You are always so encouraging
Honestly, I love this whole chapter, (even the whole book of 1 John…but…)
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
This verse stood out to me because it reminded me that in God, there is no darkness. And I find that very encouraging. There’s no chance that we’ll be in darkness when we are in God and His word. Just thinking for a moment and letting that really dawn on me…WOW. No matter what, if I’m in God, there’s no darkness!!! How cool is that?!? Ok. Exciting, I am going to try my very hardest to be in God’s company and God’s word so that when I fear, I have nothing *to* fear. :)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Pastor Mike talked about this verse this weekend. He talked about how some religions try to “make it up” to God when people sin. People try to buy forgiveness or to do things to make themselves right before a holy God. None of that is even possible! If a person is a Christian and stumbles into a sin, that person needs to confess the sin to God. He cleanses us then and as this verse says, it is a “just” thing to do because the penalty has already been paid by Christ.
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
We share the Gospel so that they may share in the life that Christ has given us, that they may also be saved and have the joy that we have found. We knoooow how awesome it is to be saved. All of our sins are forgiven and we’ve found a hope that no one else has. We have found love through Jesus Christ and we no longer are bound down by our sin. We look forward to what is ahead and don’t look back at what was behind us. Hell is where we were going but now we have Heaven to look forward to…I couldn’t say that enough! The Lord is good, all the time, and all the time, the Lord is good. IIII need to share it more! :) MARANATHA!
Yessssss Bethaannnyyy! Proclaim the Namee!! d:- D
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
I love how straight forward and up front the book of 1 John is! Here John makes it very clear that a Christian cannot walk in darkness. Of course John knows that Christians arent perfect, nor will we ever be in this life, but Christians will live a life with a pattern of righteousness. Our lives should be characterized by holy living, not patterns of sin. If our lives are characterized by patterns of sin, then we are actually Christians. This verse convicted me, but encouraged me. It convicted me because I need to be living a holy, righteous life! I need to be on my guard, watching and making sure that when I stumble into sin that it doesnt become a pattern. It encouraged me because if I am living a live that is characterized by righteousness, then I am actually a Christian!
Awesome comment cameron! Very encouraging!

7) that God is the light, and when we follow in his footsteps
we see no darkness. there is no darkness when we are with God. Jesus’s blood cleans us from our sins and makes us new.
9) that when we confess when we sin that God is always faithful and always forgiving. He cleans us from all our sins and makes us new.
great to see u on sotd! :)
ELLO… I read
I like verse 5,”This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
I like this verse because it talks about how perfect GOD is. HE is completely perfect not one sin is found in HIM. No one can make HIM sin or even come close to making HIM want to sin. HE is completely HOLY. I need to remember who HE is and try my best to follow HIS example even though I will never be perfect on this earth I need to try and ask GOD to help me stay away from sin as much as possible and nothing is impossible for GOD.

6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
This reminds me of a sermon Pastor Bobby gave a few weeks back. We can’t say that we’re Christians and then be afraid to talk about Him, because we are chillin’ in the darkness with a bunch of caterpillars! We have to actually TRY and stay away from them and it’s not easy, we have to not have fellowship with the darkness, but have fellowship with Him and other Christians and practice the truth. I’ve really gotten the message this week from Peter and now John that I need to change some of my ways at school and thank the Lord for His word and teachings!! :D
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I just needed a reminder of this and I totally loved it :) Sometimes I forget how wonderful and merciful God is and that He does care and He wants me to succeed. And when I am forgiven, He also forgets. Now this is NO excuse to sin and say oh He’ll forgive me…no no no no…but it is a great comfort to know when I do mess up and am truly repentant, He’s there for me with love, forgiveness, and mercy :)
PRAISE TO THE LORD ALMIGHTY!!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sings and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
It is one thing to confess our sins, but another matter entirely for us to never do those sins again. I pray that this week, when we confess our sins that we try our very very hardest not to commit the same ones again!
AMEN! And props for OCHSA Chistian Club!
AMEN! Great comment, so encouraging!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sings and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Our God is a great God! He is so forgiving, and that makes me love him even more! I am so thankful that i can know if i mess up and stumble into sin, i can repent of it and be forgiven! And i know that i can ask him to help me stear clear of these sins, and it will become easier for me to live in this world and avoid sin every day because i know that God has my back!!!
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
As a Christian, I need to make sure that I am walking in the light with the Lord. I can not have any persistent unrepented sin in my life, which is the sign of a non- Christian. I will fall and stumble at times but my life should not be characterized by sin. This verse just encourges me to live a more holy and righteous life.
Wow, verses 5-10 are so powerful, we need to walk in the light and not in the darkness because God Himself is in the light.
1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
God is completely perfect. He is the creator and the sustainer of the universe. There is absolutely no sin in God. He is the light, the one who shines on us. We should reflect His glory and not walk in darkness at all. Walking in darkness while being in Christ is an oxymoron and should not be done, because we can’t be with Christ and with the world. I need to reflect Christ in my life daily and not live in the world of darkness. My life should be lived in accordance to the word of God, not the world.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
I love how it says cleanse us from all unrighteousness because after I sin I sometimes feel really dirty and tainted. It is so amazing to know that Christ has washed away all my sin so that when God looks on me, He doesn’t see my failures but rather the righteous life of Christ. It is so good to know that my sin is washed away and once I am in heaven I wont even be tempted by it anymore. A lot of people think freedom is being able to do whatever you want, but really they are just in bondage to their own sinful desires. But being free from sin feels so much more like freedom and I cant wait to be in heaven where there will be no sin at all. LORD, thank you so much for removing my evil sin from me; please help me to constantly be thinking about and praising you for it and please help me to live in my sin no longer but rather live a pure life for your glory.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Our God is a just God and a loving and forgiving God! As a Christian if I fall into sin, I feel convicted and bad about it. My response should never be to remain in that sin and be a slave to it, but to mourn over it and to confess my sins to the Lord! And this verse says that if we do that then God will be faithful and cleanse us from all unrighteousness! How comforting is it to know that God is SO faithful and will be just to forgive that sinful action? It is still no excuse to sin and to have an attitude of, “I know that God will forgive me, so it doesn’t matter, I will just repent later” kind of perspective. I know and have heard many people say that to me, and it is important to know that if you sin with the same intentions and keep on sinning, that there will be no more forgiving! I pray that I will consistently confess my sins to my friends and to the Lord first and foremost and to make sure my actions are pleasing to God!
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
Many non-Christians accuse Christians of being hypocrites. And sadly most of the time these non-Christians are right about these supposed “Christians” who according to the Bible aren’t Christians at all. We can’t have any type of hypocrisy in us as Christians, whether of motive, thoughts, or actions we can’t have any of it. Although we can hide some of it from others, we can’t hide any hypocrisy and halfheartedness to a holy an omniscient God. I need to make sure that no matter what, I have an undivided heart towards God and there is no sin that is pulling me down from living a life of righteousness.

1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
A lot of non-Christians say that God created evil. There is no darkness in God and God did not create something evil, He created us but we choose to be evil.
This is also talking about hypocracy, we can’t claim to have fellowship with God if our lives are constantly in sin.
“the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” awesome.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
I am so thankful that God cleanses me of my sin and forgives me! I want to apply Pastor Bobby’s message this week and evangelize to others this week:) Jesus is the ONLY light, the truth and the way. God has blessed me with such a great gift and I need to share it with others by being bolder in my faith. Praise be to God for all He is given me and may He give me strength to evangelize to my non-Christian friends.
1:1 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—”
The Apostles, all of them, were eyewitness and were testifying (telling what they had witnessed), truthfully. It is unfortunate that some of my friends at school make claims that the Bible should be equated to fairy tales or mythology, but in reality the Bible is just a written historical account (the most reliable in that case) of events in history, not made up.
As Peter talks about in chapter one of his letter:
“we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty” (2 Pet. 1:16).
And Luke feels the same way:
“…just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught” (Luke 1:2-4).
Thank God for His promised trustworthy Word. It is the Truth.
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Every one of us is a sinner, and the sooner we repent and confess our sins to Christ, the better. The goal as a Christian is to imitate Christ, who is perfect, and not sin. However, because that is impossible for us to be holy like him, we can only try our best. It’s important to make sure you learn from your past sins and mistakes and don’t make the same ones again. By making good changes in our lives, we can better glorify him, and shine his light :)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
if we repent then God will forgive us christians
“If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”
If you’re living a life of continuous sin, you do not have fellowship with God.
You are not a Christian.
This should be a good motivator to stop sinning.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What an awesome promise! Because of my faith in Jesus Christ, I know that my sin is forgiven and I am made clean before God. As Pastor Mike talked about this weekend, I want to savor my justification every day. It should be what i think about before any endeavor. I’m so thankful for God sending His son to save me, and now I want my life to be an expression of my thanks and praise.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
Jesus is the LIGHT! so if we are in the dark, it makes no sense. We can’t be half in-half out. God wants our WHOLE heart. And if we are only giving him some of it, it doesn’t count. I want to make sure I am always walking in the light, pleasing God and living in obedience through all that I do. I died to my sin and it no longer has power over me. One major thing I noticed after I became a Christian is that I didn’t have those same desires any more. What God hated, I started to hate too. The Holy Spirit started to convict me in certain areas and as I matured, I realized that pursuing holiness is something that I am to do EVERY DAY! So as I dive into the word each day, I pray that the Lord reveals more and more to me as I try to live in obedience to his word.
What a great day! I got baptized+we’re starting 1 John, in my opinion the most convicting epistle in the New Testament.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
This is a major part of my testimony, as I’m sure it is with other people. I thought I was a Christian and claimed to walk with Christ, but I barely ever obeyed God’s commands and constantly rebelled against Him. But, when I committed my life to Christ for reals, the pattern of sin was shattered and I am going to be fighting it until I die. Now am I completely sinless now? No! But I am no longer “walking in darkness,” and am now relying on God to help me through this constant struggle with sin.
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all
This is a great verse to think about. God is perfect. In him there is no darkness. And just as the bible says, be holy as I am holy. I need to make becoming holy a bigger priority in my life and not get distracted by the things of this world. I pray that I would consume my life with the Lord’s word and that I would pursue holiness just as the bible has commanded me.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.—It is so good to know that Jesus forgives even after all of the gross sins we do! When I do something horrible and I feel bad about it, I need to turn to Christ and just ask for complete forgiveness because he doesn’t just forgive us once. He forgives us all the time and he has also paid for our grossness by dying on the cross! He is a forgiving God but he doesn’t want us to be sinning! I know I can take his forgiveness for granit and I just need to make the change in my heart after I confess my sins to him and make that 180 from my sins. I am going to really be praying that my actions display Jesus and that I am not the type of person who hears the words of Jesus and walks away with nothing changed in my heart.
MARANATHA!!!
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—
This is a great verse. The apostles were first hand witnesses to the glory of GOD. They knew exactly what he had done and who he was. When teachers or scientists say something contrary to the gospel, we just have to ask ourselves one thing. Who is more reliable? A teacher two thousand years after the fact, or eyewitnesses?
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
We all sin, but a Christian isn’t a slave to sin. If you’re sinning with no conviction and don’t repent, you aren’t a christian. Lord, let me never to be a slave of sin. Let me instead do what your word says. I pray that i kill every sin in my life. Please help me God, because I can do nothing with you, but can do everything with you. Amen.
I like verse 9 how it talks about confessing our sins. I know some of us are a little embarressed to talk about the sins. I know once you tell someone what you have done and had learn from your mistakes that it feels you better to have to and healthy conscience. It also helps to listen to someone else sins and helps them through it. That to cn make your day knowing you helped out a friend
I read…
Verse 6… “If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth”
Many people in our world today would confess to be “Christian”, and yet they have not very many works to show for it. If we are proclaiming to be a Christian, we need to work on the struggles in our life and work to be holy, however, all sin. John even says those who proclaim to have no sin make Jesus out to be a liar. For application, I need to be striving more ferociously to kill sin in my life.
i love how straight forward this book is!! like in verses 5-10 he makes what he is saying so easy to understand. they are great verses :)
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
amen! we definitely cannot be legit christians if we have a “fellowship” with him yet we go with our friends and commit sins or dont stand up for christ when we need to. i know i need to be working on this in my life right now for sure.
This passage has a lot of references to fellowship which basically has been the theme of my day. The Bible really is living text.
AMEN!
Great comment Hailey :)
4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
THis verse challenged me to evaluate where my priorities are. Do I look for joy by telling others about God and the things He has done for me? The answer is: not nearly as much as I should. It is easy to evangelize for the wrong reasons, such as to win arguments like Pastor Bobby talked about this weekend. But for a true Christian, obeying the will of God will bring blessing for us as well. Keeping Christ at the center of my life and constantly thinking about His gift of love in saving me from my sin will bring joy to my life as well, making me all the more eager to go share His Truth with others!
That is a really good point! I know I need to tell more people about God in my everyday life as well.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
These are exactly what we as Christians should be doing. I have actually been thinking about how to follow Christ, and not just by going to church, or saying that I’m a christian, but actually having Street Cred, and these verses tell me. We will walk in the light, just as he has walked in the light, with fellowship with one another, we will be cleansed from sin.
It really sounds easy, but it is hard to tell your friends that you are setting aside absolutely everything, and going for Christ. America is ok with having Christians, thankfully, but the authorities say it’s ok as long as it’s just a hobby. It becomes a problem with the worldly people, when you center your world on the Lord, and go for Him, and not what the world says you should do.
The other thing this verse says, is that we can be telling ourselves and others a lie when we say we are following him, but our hearts and actions are going towards the things that the world says that we should be doing.
I pray that everyone will pick up their cross and follow the Lord, and go towards his kingdom and never look back!!
Maranatha
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What an amazing verse! God has promised us complete forgiveness for any sin. He did not make a standard that said certain sins cannot be forgiven… All sins of all people are forgiven for those who put their faith in Jesus Christ! This grace does not provide us with justification to sin, we are instead made righteous to live for the Lord and freely confess our wrongs to be forgiven forever and always. Praise the Lord!
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
This chapter(as the whoe bible is) is about Jesus and God and how the Word is Life and we need Light(which is God). So to sum this all up, we need God. Theres nothing else to it. I am officially blind without God. Unfortunatly if your blind you do not get that nice handicap spot. Haha I think of the song ‘this little light of mine’ and how i used to sing it all the time. Hide it under a bushel(can’t spell:/) NO! I’m going to let it shine! Like what Pastor Bobby was talking about this week, am I ready to defend/stand up/claim Jesus? Or am I going to hide Him? My goal is to let His light shine and evanglize for Him and not for any other reason! :]
***SHINE THAT LIGHT!!!***
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
The thing that hit me the hardest today in the sermon was when Bobby talked about how someone could look up at me from Hell and say “wow I wish Morgan Sherman would have shared the gospel with me.” I have something to do with people’s eternal destination! I have seen and experienced the one and only truth that is in Christ Jesus atonement for my sin– but I cannot keep it a secret! That is cruel and disobedient. The light that i have I need to shine throughout the people who dont have it.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
This verse totally reminds me of the series we’re going through right now: Street Cred Christianity!! If we are calling ourselves Christians, we need act like it! We cannot be hypocrites by saying we “have fellowship with him” but then sinning continuously and taking part in the world. I need to be making sure that I am repping Christ in every single thing I do!
This chapter is almost paradoxical….it says if we walk in darkness we are not saved and if we claim to not have sin we are not saved….but that is the beauty of salvation….we are saved by God’s grace which teaches us to say no to sin…therefore we are not walking in the darkness of this world but in the light of God….we also know that we are sinners inherently and that we fall short of God’s glory…that is where the other part of God’s grace comes in….mmmm God is good!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Yes! Such an encouraging verse! God has taken my sins as far as east is from the west because of the righteousness of Christ! And he is faithful to continue to forgive my sins. I never have to work or earn forgiveness (and I could never earn forgiveness), but God continues to graciously forgive my sins after my salvation because of Christ’s perfect life, death, and resurrection!
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
God is our light!! He leads us through the dark and guides our way!! We will never lose our way with God on our side!!
MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Imagine every person in this world who believes they are perfect are saying that Jesus is a liar!!!! I used to be like that!!! I used think that I did not sin!!!! I am so thankful that I am changed!! That I am a new creation!!! Praise the Lord!!!!!
Maranatha
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The Lord is so good! Its hard to comprehend a God that hates ssin so much, yet is willing to forgive man (track-record-of-disobedience-all-stars). This calls for worship, because ifGod didn’t fogive us, we couldn’t go to heaven
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I loved this verse because its a great reminder of how awesome God is. God forgives everything we do if we ask Him. Its something so great to always mess up yet He still loves us! God is one of the best examples of love. Even when we turn against Him, He still waits for us to come back. Which i think is one of the coolest traits God has! :D
Me too! (: I am in awe of the amazing patience and grace my Lord has for me!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I am so thankful that the Lord has forgiven me, the worst of sinners! There is nothing i have done, or can do to deserve this amazing grace and mercy that He has shown me. It is so important to be praying and talking to our savior each and everyday, because of the promises he has made us! I am confessing my sins daily, because i know that it is the best thing in the world to be right with God, and to have a clear conscience before him. I am so amazing by my God, that he loves me so much to send his son to die for me, and to then forgive me of all my sins, and cleanse me of all unrighteousness! I just can not comprehend that! I strive to be righteous and holy as my Father in heaven is holy. In this verse i am reminded of the faithfulness and sovereignty of my Savior. Jesus i love you!
GREAT COMMENT (: praise the Lord!
Yay we can comment now haha
Great point about confessing sins daily! I will definitely start doing that as well.
I totally agree with not being able to comprehend the whole John 3:16 thing. :D
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
there are soooo many great verses in this chapter its RiDikQLuS! anywayyyy i love this verse especially b/c it reminds me to bring everything to the light immediatley and not fall into the pit of double-mindedness def. = knowing something we are doing is wrong yet we conitnue to keep it in the darkness aand do not bring it into the light so that we may change it. thats all for tonight!<3333
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Even though I know it so well, I sometimes find myself not really thinking about the gravity of what Jesus did for me is. When it comes down to it, the truth is that nothing else matters other than the fact that I am saved because of what he did. Yet somehow, I still allow myself to sin and do other things in place of/before spending my time doing things that will glorify God? This is so FOOLISH. I am beyond grateful for what He has done for me, yet I can hardly even show it? I claim to be a person that is walking in the light for Jesus, yet I so often do things that God hates and tells us not to do. I am a treacherously lazy person, especially when It comes to procrastination. As Ben talked about this weekend at the brotherhood, God hates this and tells us not to be sluggards. This is just one example of an area of my life that I am failing in the battle against sin. I know I have taken this comment on a major tangent, but God has really convicted me that I need to step it up big time when it comes to fighting against sin. He has done so much for me, and I need to show him how grateful I am by obeying his commands to be righteous. The war against sin in my life just majorly escolated – no more foolish actions. God will give me the strength, I know that. I need to put in the effort.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This is such a cool promise that we have! Our Lord will forgive our sins if we call on His name for forgiveness! Its so assuring!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Thinking about this verse as the day winds down, I cannot help but think of Pastor Mike’s message this morning on Romans 8. I need to savor my justification. My sins are forgiven through Christ. Jesus paid it all. There is nothing I can do to earn this are make God’s forgiveness greater!
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Yep yep! God hates hyprocisy. But if we model our lives just as Christ has done then we are on the path of righteousness. If we remain in the darkness and do not let anyone know about our troubles they wont be able to help us so thats the purpose of fellowshipping (i dont think thats a word haha), so we can help each other because were probably on the same page. This week im going to be more open with my accountability partners and help those who need it.
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Each and every person has tried to live the perfect life on their own. And each and every person has utterly failed at the task. There isn’t one single person on the earth who has lived a life without sin. Many people may refuse to acknowledge their sin. They don’t want to have to take responsibility for the wrong which they have committed. And so they may claim to not have sin. Yet this verse calls out people like this. It says that they are but deceiving themselves, and that the truth is not in them.
I am no different than the rest of the people on this earth in the way that I am equally sinful. I have failed to meet God’s standards of perfection. However, with my sin, I can’t just pretend it’s not there. I can’t deny the fact that I am sinful, I can’t claim that I am without wrongdoing. So instead, I need to own up to my mistakes. I need to take responsibility for all that I have done. And I need to acknowledge that on my own I can do no better. But I must always see that through the work of the Holy Spirit in me, I can strive to live a life for him. So I can’t deceive myself and claim to be sinless. I need to acknowledge my sin and acknowledge my need for my Savior, clinging to him always for the strength to strive for perfection every moment of my life!
Ending the night with an awesome and encouraging passage!! Praise God!!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What an encouragement! God IS faithful and just… and such an AWESOME God to have such mercy upon our lives! I am in desperate need of a saving God, one to have mercy upon MY life and thank you Jesus, I do!! Blows my mind to think that this JUST GOD and this FAITHFUL GOD saved me!!
Thank you Jesus for choosing me!!! I am ready to go into OCHSA this week and share the Good News about how Christ can save lives! I am ready to TALK ABOUT IT!
AMEN!(: I cant wait to spread the truth at OCHSA!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What an amazing promise! I am so grateful that God has forgiven me in Jesus and when I confess my sins he not only forgives me but he cleanses me and has given his word so I can walk in it! This is a big encouragement to me to keep confessing my sin continually before God each day because of this promise!
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This makes it so clear. Though we sin, God is faithful! He will clease us from ALL unrighteousness. It is good to slow down and really see what this verse says. Growing up in the church, it can be easy to see 1 John 1:9 and not think anything of it. But we need to slow down and see how radical this is. A perfect God is cleasing us, ugly sinners. What a promise this is! God is surely good and forgiving!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
It was so amazing to see so many people getting baptized today!!! And for what reason brought them to this point in their lives?? At some point it was what this verse says, confessing our sins and repenting of them!! This is THEY greatest thing that ever has been!!! We are able to confess our sins to our Holy and perfect God and He will be faithful and will forgive us of those sins!!!!
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have no sin (basically, that we are perfect), or even if we think it, the only person we’re going to end up deceiving is ourself. Satan (whose name actually means “accuser”) points out our sin to God, and God, who knows all, agrees: we are all sinners. I am a sinner. I sin frequently, as does every other human being. Even saved people sin. As John points out here, even if we are saved and say that we don’t sin, we’re kidding ourselves. Salvation does not make us perfect. As pastor Mike so often puts it, we cannot and will not be sinless… but God certainly wants us to sin less, and that is what happens with saved people: the process of sanctification. However, verse 9 is what stood out to me. It is clear that I am going to struggle with and give in to sin, even as a Christian. God knows it, Satan will tempt me and point it out to God, but I will do one of two things. I will either pridefully not recognize my sin (or maybe recognize it but still do it), or I will humbly admit and confess before God what I already know to be true, that I am a sinner who sins frequently, and am in desperate need of God’s mercy. It is written here that if I do that, if I confess, if I admit to and turn from my sin, God will forgive me! While He’s already provided forgiveness for all sin in the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, there is still this varying level of closeness in a believer’s relationship with God. God, please give me the humility to admit when I’m in the wrong and turn back to you. Thank you so much that you are merciful and forgiving even though I don’t deserve anything but judgment from You! Praise the Lord!
1 John 1
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
So many people who profess to be Christians in our world today are walking in darkness with one foot on the side of Christ and another on the side of Satan. These people are double minded and are surely deceived by evil into thinking that they are o the side of God’s light. If the truth of Jesus Christ is not in us we will be vomited out of the mouth of God.
Revelation 3:15-16 15 “ ‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
In churches and high school groups there are people walking a tight rope which without a good footing in the truth come certain death. This first chapter of 1 John challenges us to know what team we are on and if we are truly walking in the light of Christ. You cannot serve two masters. We cannot have assurance of eternal salvation if we continue a life of serving our fleshly desires.
Matthew 6:22-24 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Even though I’ve heard this a million times over, it is still mind boggling. Why in the world would God, a perfect being, see fit to kill his own son so that He can forgive me of my sins? I’m so thankful that He has done this for me, and that I know the truth. This verse says He forgives me for *all* my unrighteousness. Not just some of it. I do not deserve this, so I better be showing my thankfulness every way that I can!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Love this verse! Praise Jesus for dying for the ungodly and the sinners! It amazes me that Jesus would shed His blood for my sin and pay my debt! That real question i ahve to ask myself is if i am ready to die and be persectued for Him? My answer is yes! Jesus is soo worth it and i am ready to stand up and spread the good news. It is so important and after today i am so encouraged to spread Gods word and the truth! This chapter reminds me of
Romans 5:6-8 “For while we were still weak, at the right time CHrist died for the ungoldy. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person-though perhaps a good person one would dare even to die-but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.”
THis verse amazes me and makes me so thankful for my Savior Jesus Christ! Thank you Lord for shedding your blood for my sake! Praise the Lord AMen!
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This is just proof that God is forgiving but only if we confess to sins we’ve done. If we lie and say we haven’t sinned, thats unrighteous and just kind of adds on the the sin itself. But confession brings forgiveness.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
I loved this verse because so many people say that they are Christians and show no sign that they are. They are only lying in sin and once they realize that its going to take a lot for God to forgive them.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we follow in HIS footsteps we will be thankful to have HIM by our side and trust him and know that he will never leave our side. I am so thankful to have a great relationship with God
AMEN!
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
You can’t say that you are a christian if you go around and do everything everyone else does. That wouldn’t be very good christianity street cred. If people saw this they would think less of christians and of God since you are the only example many people will have of christianity. If you aren’t christian, it would be better to say you weren’t instead of falsely representing something.
Hey guys I LOVE FIRST JOHN. IN THis chapter I thought it was interesting how we are told to walk in the light. There is a famous song lyric by, and man you profest to be a christian, JOHNNY CASH. “what is done in the dark, will be brought into the light…. sooner or later God’s gonna cut you down” THis song is about how we need to walk in the light always because if we dont sooner or later God is going to either disipline us, or like he said in Hebrews release us into our worldly desires. I personally would rather have the first option. Also we need to always walk in the light because like in Proverbs chapter one, which is always about wisdom and obeying a fathers wisdom, if we do that than it will be good.
